- 0:00As the evolution of consciousness unfolds, we see
- 0:04the development and expression of ever increasing powers of
- 0:08knowledge and action. There are powers of perception,
- 0:13there are powers of thought and reflection, there are powers of
- 0:17vital expression, emotion, and there are physical powers.
- 0:22Because evolution of consciousness is progressive and
- 0:26reveals itself over time, we also find that not all powers
- 0:31reveal themselves at the same time, nor perfectly in all
- 0:36individuals at once. Rather, we find that some of
- 0:40these powers appear first in isolated individuals and then
- 0:45later may find a more general expression.
- 0:49Further, we must conclude that additional unexpected powers lie
- 0:54in the future, waiting for their time to develop and manifest
- 0:59actively. Some powers, as they manifest,
- 1:03appear to be spontaneous in their action, while others seem
- 1:07to require a substantial effort of training, practice, and
- 1:11systematic attempts at use. We see that some powers may show
- 1:16just an inkling of their potential until they are focused
- 1:20on and systematically perfected in their action.
- 1:24Athletes may have a natural ability, for instance, but it is
- 1:28through constant exercise and training that the optimal impact
- 1:33of that ability can be recognized.
- 1:36There is a somewhat long continuum between an individual
- 1:40who runs or jumps for the first time and the Olympic runner or
- 1:45high jump competitor. Similarly, powers of emotional
- 1:50expression, powers of empathy, compassion, consecration,
- 1:55aspiration can be developed and turned into a strength for those
- 2:02who are prepared to take up those powers on the mental
- 2:06level. Powers of observation, memory,
- 2:10reasoning, logical inference, planning, imagination, etcetera,
- 2:15all may appear variously across different individuals and may
- 2:20develop over time with repeated use and focus of the individual.
- 2:27While we cannot predict entirely what further powers lie in
- 2:31humanity's future, we can easily accept the idea that such powers
- 2:36will manifest. Given the historical trend of
- 2:39the development and expression of consciousness that we can
- 2:43already observe, we may find that some powers that are rare
- 2:48or incipient in certain individuals actually represent
- 2:53more generalized powers that will be more widely available to
- 2:56humanity as a whole in the future.
- 3:00This brings in the question as to whether power such as remote
- 3:04viewing, overcoming the force of gravity, applying powers to the
- 3:09healing and regeneration of the body, etcetera, can be part of
- 3:14humanity's future. Doctor Delal observes quote two
- 3:20types of latent powers may be distinguished.
- 3:24There are powers within us that are yet unevolved and for the
- 3:28most part unsuspected if not disbelieved, such as
- 3:33clairvoyance, clairaudience, telepathy, and other occult
- 3:38powers spoken of in the latter part of the book.
- 3:41There are other powers that we already possess and use, but are
- 3:45latent in the sense of existing in quite a rudimentary or
- 3:51undeveloped form. We do not regard these latter as
- 3:55powers, because there seems to be nothing extraordinary about
- 3:59them. Such are the powers of thought,
- 4:02imagination, will, concentration, intuition and the
- 4:06like, which in their present state in most human beings are
- 4:11quite undeveloped in relation to what they could be at their
- 4:14highest potential. What we see in a genius is
- 4:18simply the flowering of powers which are either undeveloped or
- 4:23totally latent in us. As the Mother remarks, there is
- 4:27a genius within every one of us. The possibility of developing
- 4:33one's potential to a remarkable degree exists also with physical
- 4:37powers and abilities pertaining to the body.
- 4:41An Olympic athlete has simply developed abilities which are
- 4:45present in some degree in everyone.
- 4:48The Mother gives examples of how even our sensory abilities such
- 4:52as sight and hearing can be heightened to a miraculous
- 4:56degree and remarks we can do infinitely more than we actually
