• 1:46
Speaker 7: don't have a lot to talk about as far as
• 1:48
Speaker 7: the weather goes today.
• 1:49
Speaker 5: Hoho, my kid. We always have things to talk about
• 1:50
Speaker 5: as far as the weather goes.
• 1:52
Speaker 7: Technically, the winter storm is over, but we are still
• 1:56
Speaker 7: filling the effects of the winter storm known as Blair.
• 1:59
Speaker 7: Lots of eye things of that nature out on the streets.
• 2:03
Speaker 7: We'll give us spend a little time talking about that
• 2:04
Speaker 7: a little bit later on. I understand, you know, I
• 2:06
Speaker 7: mean and tell you, you know, I sixty four is
• 2:08
Speaker 7: in is in pretty good shape. The back roads, secondary roads,
• 2:11
Speaker 7: your hollers, Yeah, not so much this morning. So most
• 2:15
Speaker 7: things are closed today. I mean there's some exceptions.
• 2:18
  Speaker 5: Of course.
• 2:18
Speaker 7: School systems are closed, county building so on and so forth.
• 2:21
Speaker 7: A lot of businesses are closed. So again, as I
• 2:22
Speaker 7: always tell you, if you have an appointment, you may
• 2:24
Speaker 7: want to call ahead to see if they're actually there today.
• 2:26
Speaker 7: We'll spend some time talking about the weather a little
• 2:28
Speaker 7: bit later on. Also, what if I told you that
• 2:31
Speaker 7: West Virginia is one of the states that people are
• 2:34
Speaker 7: actually moving to. You may think I'm crazy, and you
• 2:38
Speaker 7: probably already do anyway. But one of the people touting
• 2:41
Speaker 7: the results of some new studies that have come out
• 2:43
Speaker 7: about people moving to West Virginia state Senator Eric Tarr,
• 2:47
Speaker 7: and he's going to join us to talk about that

• 3:01
Speaker 7: good morning, welcome to the show.
• 3:05
Speaker 8: Hello Dave bon Giorno, and glad to be with you.
• 3:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, you spent a little time across the pond, I understand, sir.
• 3:13
Speaker 8: Yeah, I had a lovely trip to Italy with my
• 3:16
Speaker 8: wife and two daughters. So, unfortunately for you, a weakness
• 3:20
Speaker 8: of my appearance here today is I do not know
• 3:23
Speaker 8: anything about the news.
• 3:24
  Speaker 5: Okay, well, that's good. That's good. I will I'll add
• 3:26
Speaker 5: to mackaycha and what you need to know. How's that?
• 3:28
Speaker 5: I'll get you caught up to speed. How's that?
• 3:31
Speaker 8: That's very good. But I understand that we do have
• 3:33
Speaker 8: a lot of changing of the guard coming up starting
• 3:37
Speaker 8: tomorrow the House and Senate in West Virginia reorganized for
• 3:42
Speaker 8: the coming session, and new Senate president, of course, and
• 3:46
Speaker 8: then we're less than a week away from the new
• 3:49
Speaker 8: governor swearing. So although I am ill informed about the
• 3:53
Speaker 8: news currently, I need to get caught up to speak quickly.
• 3:57
Speaker 7: One of the things I wanted to bring up to you,
• 3:59
Speaker 7: we'll get an all those things you mentioned a little
• 4:01
Speaker 7: bit later on that at least the way Brad, it
• 4:04
Speaker 7: looked at the time, West Virginia could have had what
• 4:08
Speaker 7: for governor, I mean yeah, for governors in the span
• 4:11
Speaker 7: of just a few days. Now we know now that
• 4:12
Speaker 7: Governor Justice decided to postpone his swearing in so he
• 4:17
Speaker 7: could remain governor before turning the reins over to Governor
• 4:20
Speaker 7: Elec Morrissey. We just ended a weather emergency here in
• 4:26
Speaker 7: the state of West Virginia, at least the official part
• 4:28
Speaker 7: of the emergency, because again, if you're out driving around,
• 4:30
Speaker 7: you know it's it's still there. But now that now
• 4:33
Speaker 7: that the governor, Governor Justice has decided to stick around
• 4:37
Speaker 7: to be able to I guess declare said state of emergency.
• 4:42
Speaker 7: So how does that decision look now? I mean, was
• 4:45
Speaker 7: this why he did it? I mean, what's your take?
• 4:49
Speaker 8: I mean, I think it's an example of why he
• 4:51
Speaker 8: did it. To have that kind of continuity. I will
• 4:55
Speaker 8: also say missed opportunity because could have, at least until tomorrow,
• 5:01
Speaker 8: had Senate President Craig Blair acting as governor handling the
• 5:07
Speaker 8: response to winter Storm Blair. But yeah, yeah, I mean yeah,
• 5:16
Speaker 8: Blair taken on Blair would have been good made for TV,
• 5:19
Speaker 8: put on Netflix. You know what Governor Justice and his
• 5:26
Speaker 8: administration did was to mobilize the National Guard to prepare
• 5:31
Speaker 8: the response by the Department Highways to have a steady
• 5:36
Speaker 8: end on the state's emergency services. And you know, at
• 5:41
Speaker 8: some point, I think there will be an actual disaster
• 5:44
Speaker 8: declaration to try to get or laf dollars from the
• 5:48
Speaker 8: federal government. Don't know that for sure, haven't heard, but
• 5:51
Speaker 8: it would make some sense to me to try to
• 5:54
Speaker 8: get some dollars back for the cleanup and the response.
• 6:00
Speaker 8: Governor Justice did decide to remain. Those were actions that
• 6:05
Speaker 8: he took to prepare over the weekend. And you know,
• 6:09
Speaker 8: sure enough, there's been a significant amount of snow, of
• 6:12
Speaker 8: freezing rain, of power outages, and I think that his
• 6:19
Speaker 8: it's a storm and a response that would have crossed
• 6:24
Speaker 8: all of those leading you know what could have been
• 6:30
Speaker 8: the response Justice at the tail end of his he
• 6:34
Speaker 8: would have been out on Friday. If he had taken
• 6:36
Speaker 8: the oath for the US Senate, then Senator Blair would
• 6:40
Speaker 8: have been the guy in charge up until tomorrow. Randy
• 6:44
Speaker 8: Smith is in line now to become the Senate president
• 6:47
Speaker 8: as of the Senate floor session tomorrow, and then it
• 6:51
Speaker 8: would have been Smith leading until Governor Morrissey takes the
• 6:55
Speaker 8: oath on Monday. So it just would have been. I
• 6:58
Speaker 8: think I think a round and round and round of
• 7:03
Speaker 8: sort of a lack of continuity each these are those
• 7:05
Speaker 8: people as capable, but I think the winter storm crossing
• 7:09
Speaker 8: for different people in charge him not been an element
• 7:11
  Speaker 8: of confusion.
• 7:12
Speaker 5: I would agree with that. Again, we're talking with Brad mclhenny.

• 7:26
Speaker 7: dot net because what you don't know can hurt you
• 7:28
Speaker 7: and company center President Randy Smith. Brad now has, as
• 7:32
Speaker 7: we know, some of his team assembled. Patrick Martin is
• 7:35
Speaker 7: going to preside his majority leader. Mike Stewart was on
• 7:37
Speaker 7: the show last week. He will be the Judiciary chairman
• 7:40
Speaker 7: and Jason Barrett will be the financi chair Any thoughts
• 7:43
  Speaker 7: on those picks.
• 7:45
Speaker 8: You know they are each capable. It's going to be
• 7:48
Speaker 8: interesting what the tone of the Senate is. Smith and
• 7:54
Speaker 8: many of his supporters were obviously not on the leadership
• 7:58
Speaker 8: team of Senator Blair and Senator Tarr and the rest
• 8:04
Speaker 8: of that group. Uh, you know, they were thirty four senators,
• 8:09
Speaker 8: so you have a certain amount of power, but largely
• 8:11
Speaker 8: they were on the outside looking in. Uh. They are
• 8:14
Speaker 8: people generally who took a more populist tone than than
• 8:20
Speaker 8: the current leadership has had. So I am very interested
• 8:25
Speaker 8: in what their priorities are. Senator Smith first told we
• 8:30
Speaker 8: the media, myself and other reporters like a friend of
• 8:34
Speaker 8: the program, Stephen Allen Adams and Amelia Nicely the night
• 8:37
Speaker 8: he was selected. I mean, he was just bowled over,
• 8:40
Speaker 8: emotional and having been chosen, describe himself as, you know,
• 8:44
Speaker 8: just an unlikely success story, a humble coal miner, and
• 8:49
Speaker 8: described his approach as being very small d democratic that
• 8:53
Speaker 8: you know. One of his pitches to the rest of
• 8:56
Speaker 8: the caucus was that he would carry out their will.
• 8:59
Speaker 8: If they want to run Bill, he'll love it, So
• 9:02
Speaker 8: you know what that's going to be, Like, I am
• 9:05
Speaker 8: not sure. He did describe the potential for a significant
• 9:09
Speaker 8: number of social issues, at least coming first out the door.
• 9:12
Speaker 8: Don't know what those might be, but a willingness to
• 9:17
Speaker 8: entertain economic development matters and the like also, So I
• 9:21
Speaker 8: just don't know what it'll be like in large part
• 9:24
Speaker 8: because Senator Smith and many of his supporters have not
• 9:27
Speaker 8: been in power to this point.
• 9:30
Speaker 7: You know, I had Mike Stewart on the show last week, Brad,
• 9:32
Speaker 7: and he outlined some pretty aggressive things that he would
• 9:35
Speaker 7: like to see done the session. But there continues though,
• 9:38
Speaker 7: to be talk that Senator Stewart may be in line
• 9:42
Speaker 7: for an appointment to the Trump team. I'm hearing maybe
• 9:44
  Speaker 7: under Robert Kennedy.
• 9:46
Speaker 5: What do you have on that?
• 9:47
Speaker 8: If anything, I don't know how that's going to work.
• 9:51
Speaker 8: I have heard that also. Uh, you know, the trick
• 9:55
Speaker 8: is that I just think a session has been mumped
• 9:58
Speaker 8: back this year to allow incoming Governor Morrissey and his
• 10:01
Speaker 8: team to get set to get their legislative priorities, you know,
• 10:05
Speaker 8: to get to get defeat under him and organized so
• 10:08
Speaker 8: a little later legislative session. That Judiciary chaired role is intricate,
• 10:15
Speaker 8: It is detailed. It deals with, you know, the the
• 10:20
Speaker 8: finite aspects of West Virginia law. If you were to
• 10:26
Speaker 8: take on that leadership role and then you know, for
• 10:29
Speaker 8: whatever reason, leave part way through, I just think that's
• 10:32
Speaker 8: the challenge for everybody else, for staff, for the rest
• 10:37
Speaker 8: of the Judiciary Committee, for an understanding of the bills
• 10:42
Speaker 8: that are coming through, that for an understanding in advance
• 10:45
Speaker 8: of bills that are flowing over from the House of Delegates.
• 10:49
  Speaker 8: I mean talk about continuity. I don't know how it's
• 10:53
Speaker 8: going to work in practice if he were to leave
• 10:56
Speaker 8: part way through the session, but that is apparently a
• 11:01
Speaker 8: possibility according to what you and I and others are hearing.
• 11:04
Speaker 7: What's what's going on with interims? Are we Are we
• 11:07
Speaker 7: going to be able to get interims in today? Because
• 11:08
  Speaker 7: I think they're They're scheduled.
• 11:09
Speaker 8: Right, They're scheduled. It was supposed to be Monday, and
• 11:15
Speaker 8: today Monday was canceled entirely. The early part of today
• 11:20
Speaker 8: was canceled. Supposed to come back this afternoon and do them.
• 11:25
Speaker 8: To me, it makes sense to go ahead and try
• 11:27
Speaker 8: to do a little bit, because you know, we're dealing
• 11:29
Speaker 8: with a significant number of the regular session is approaching,
• 11:34
Speaker 8: We're dealing with a significant number of new Senators and
• 11:37
Speaker 8: new delegates, and they have a learning curve on a
• 11:39
Speaker 8: variety of issues. That is the main attribute of interim meetings.
• 11:44
Speaker 8: But also they do have these floor sessions tomorrow to organize.
• 11:48
Speaker 8: And to the degree you can go ahead and get
• 11:50
Speaker 8: people in town and have them set and ready for
• 11:55
Speaker 8: you know, the serious and formal organizational floor session tomorrow.
• 12:00
Speaker 8: It's probably better, so a good excuse just to have
• 12:03
Speaker 8: some interims and have people in line for tomorrow.
• 12:06
Speaker 7: So what are we going to do with this Delegate
• 12:07
Speaker 7: elect Joe de Soto brat out of a Berkeley County,
• 12:10
Speaker 7: he's charged with making terroristic threats to other delegates. He's
• 12:14
Speaker 7: now Democrat Joe de Soto.
• 12:16
Speaker 5: So what happens here?
• 12:18
Speaker 7: Does Speaker Hanshaw in the body that they just refuse
• 12:21
Speaker 7: to seat this a delegate elects de Sota?
• 12:24
Speaker 5: What's the story here?
• 12:27
Speaker 8: I think that's the way it's going to go.
• 12:28
Speaker 7: I mean, he's on house arrest, so can't really he can't,
• 12:31
Speaker 7: and that house is his own home, it's not the
• 12:34
Speaker 7: House of Delegates arrest, so he's not going to be
• 12:37
Speaker 7: able to show up there to defend himself. So I
• 12:39
Speaker 7: mean they just refuse to see him if he were there.
• 12:43
Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I think it's an incremental and messy process.
• 12:47
Speaker 8: But the first step is that I mean, yeah, as
• 12:50
Speaker 8: a practical matter, if you are under house arrest, which
• 12:54
Speaker 8: he is as of his last court hearing in Berkeley County.
• 13:00
Speaker 8: You know, as a practical matter, you can't very well
• 13:03
Speaker 8: show up on the House floor in Charleston. So I
• 13:08
Speaker 8: don't see the circumstances under which he could be sworn
• 13:11
Speaker 8: in tomorrow. What the process is after that, I am
• 13:16
Speaker 8: not sure. Would the newly sworn in House of Delegates
• 13:20
Speaker 8: then go ahead and move a resolution to remove him
• 13:27
Speaker 8: from legislative service, or would they allow some time to say, look,
• 13:32
Speaker 8: this guy hasn't shown up. We can't let him serve.
• 13:36
Speaker 8: Whether it's immediate on the band aid off or whether
• 13:39
Speaker 8: there's some lag time. I'm not sure he did the
• 13:42
Speaker 8: day before his arrest. He was elected as a Republican
• 13:45
Speaker 8: and then switched his party affiliation to Democrat the day
• 13:48
Speaker 8: before his arrest. That's another complication, you know, looking at
• 13:54
Speaker 8: it from the point of view of the people of
• 13:56
Speaker 8: Berkeley County who elected him and who deserve of some representation,
• 14:02
Speaker 8: it would be better, I think this is me to
• 14:06
Speaker 8: go ahead and miss him from service if he's not
• 14:10
Speaker 8: going to be able to serve, because you get a
• 14:12
Speaker 8: month coming up until the new legislature really gets rolling
• 14:16
Speaker 8: for its regular session, and if if you could buy
• 14:22
Speaker 8: party officials in Berkeley County a bit of time to
• 14:26
Speaker 8: come up with some replacements, and then Governor Morrissey the
• 14:30
Speaker 8: time to pick someone new so that somebody could be
• 14:34
Speaker 8: seated and represent the citizens of that area of Berkeley
• 14:38
Speaker 8: County for the full sixty days of the legislative session.
• 14:42
Speaker 8: That would be ideal for the citizens. And that's my perspective.
• 14:47
Speaker 8: I am not my personal top concern I think should
• 14:51
Speaker 8: not be the rights of this delegate elect or of
• 14:56
Speaker 8: his colleagues. It should be of the citizens of Berkeley County.
• 15:00
Speaker 8: And if they can have representation for a full sixty days.
• 15:04
Speaker 8: The keyword of the day, Dave is continuity, and if
• 15:07
Speaker 8: they can have that, that will be better for all
• 15:08
  Speaker 8: of them.
• 15:10
Speaker 7: Brad mcilhanny, what are you working on today? Give me
• 15:12
Speaker 7: thirty seconds. What are you looking at today? I know
• 15:14
Speaker 7: we got in arm saying anything else on your radar today?
• 15:17
  Speaker 5: Son?
• 15:18
Speaker 8: Well, you know, first guest on talk line is Brian Abraham,
• 15:21
Speaker 8: the Governor's the current governor's chief of staff, and one
• 15:25
Speaker 8: of his topics is going to be, you know, the
• 15:28
Speaker 8: governor's mindset of remaining in office, foregoing his Senate duties
• 15:33
Speaker 8: for one week, but managing the storm through the national
• 15:37
Speaker 8: guard through the department highways. So I'm interested in what
• 15:41
Speaker 8: Chief of Staff Abraham says. Also, it's time for Senator
• 15:48
Speaker 8: to describe who his staff members are going to be,
• 15:50
Speaker 8: and will Brian Abraham play a role in the Senate
• 15:55
Speaker 8: version of Jim Justice's priorities. I think that's of interest too.
• 15:59
Speaker 8: I expect that that interim meetings will happen this afternoon,
• 16:03
Speaker 8: and among the most interesting meetings is one dealing with
• 16:08
Speaker 8: school discipline for elementary school students. You know, there's been
• 16:12
Speaker 8: this conversation among West Virginians about unfortunately kids who are
• 16:17
Speaker 8: misbehaving and being so disruptive for their teachers, for the
• 16:21
Speaker 8: administrators of the schools, and for their classmates. And then secondly,
• 16:25
Speaker 8: that committee that the Joint Committee on Education has a
• 16:29
Speaker 8: segment on school transfer rules that's always of interest to
• 16:32
Speaker 8: West Virginian an issue that won't go away. So I
• 16:35
Speaker 8: think each of those stands a chance of being fairly interesting.
• 16:39
Speaker 7: All right, rad By the way, I'll say this, I
• 16:42
Speaker 7: just saw a couple of moments ago. Actually I saw
• 16:44
Speaker 7: this late last night that when Governor Morrison has his
• 16:47
Speaker 7: inauguration next week, it looks like we got a little
• 16:50
Speaker 7: bit of a country southern rock flavor to entertain. I
• 16:52
Speaker 7: understand that the Marshall Tucker Band and Shannandoah are going
• 16:56
Speaker 7: to be playing that.
• 16:57
Speaker 5: That's what I read earlier. Uh you know, was that
• 17:01
Speaker 5: sound effect in the background.
• 17:03
Speaker 7: Was that your response to being Marshall Tucker Band in Shenandoah.
• 17:08

Speaker 7: I'm not gonna put you on the spot this, I
• 20:35
Speaker 7: said that, not you, Okay, I'm gonna get your trouble
• 20:37
Speaker 7: with the family. I wanted to bring you in, Senator,
• 20:40
Speaker 7: and this is something that you know you and I
• 20:42
Speaker 7: normally talk about, obviously stuff under the dome, but this
• 20:44
Speaker 7: is really kind of a different subject here. I wanted
• 20:47
Speaker 7: to bring you into talk about this because there was
• 20:49
Speaker 7: some recent data that came out talking about where some
• 20:54
Speaker 7: of the states where people moved to and from. And
• 20:58
Speaker 7: we don't always get a lot of good news on
• 21:01
Speaker 7: the national front, especially here in West Virginia. I mean,
• 21:05
Speaker 7: we know we're doing some good stuff, but not everybody
• 21:07
Speaker 7: else knows that, as you well know. And lo and behold,
• 21:10
Speaker 7: the three states that saw the highest percentage of inbound migration.
• 21:16
Speaker 7: In other words, people moving here were drum roll please,
• 21:20
Speaker 7: South Carolina, Delaware, and West Virginia. That's pretty good stuff.
• 21:25
  Speaker 5: Senator, it is.
• 21:27
Speaker 11: And West Virginia was number one, number one, New Marona,
• 21:30
Speaker 11: number one in the country. We had about sixty six
• 21:34
Speaker 11: percent of our migration was inbound, which is, uh is fantastic.
• 21:39
Speaker 11: And there's not there's we don't have enough laws and
• 21:41
Speaker 11: number one stuff for top ten stuff, we do, you know,
• 21:44
  Speaker 11: and there's there's been a lot and it's a huge
• 21:46
Speaker 11: turnaround over the past ten years, and this is a
• 21:48
Speaker 11: really good time to start looking at that. Now, how
• 21:51
Speaker 11: things have improved a lot under past the decade of leadership.
• 21:55
Speaker 5: So uh, and for the.
• 21:57
Speaker 7: Record, West Virginia actually moved as you, as you mentioned
• 21:59
Speaker 7: in the number one position, we actually moved up nine
• 22:02
Speaker 7: spots from last year's survey. So we'll dive into this
• 22:05
Speaker 7: a little bit. For forty eight years now, United van
• 22:08
Speaker 7: Lines has released what they call the National Movers Study
• 22:11
Speaker 7: on migration. Again, as you and I talked about people
• 22:14
Speaker 7: moving from one state to another in West Virginia again
• 22:20
Speaker 7: number one in this particular metric. And there's different studies
• 22:24
Speaker 7: you can look at, but in this particular one, we'll
• 22:25
Speaker 7: take what we can get here. Why is it that
• 22:28
Speaker 7: you referenced the last ten years, Senator, Why is it
• 22:31
Speaker 7: that people are choosing to move to West Virginia.
• 22:36
Speaker 11: You know, according to study that the van Lines has
• 22:39
Speaker 11: been doing for years, they said that the two main
• 22:43
Speaker 11: reasons that people are moving to West Virginia to be
• 22:45
Speaker 11: with family and for jobs, and that's you know, and
• 22:50
  Speaker 11: really about it's it's a very similar split. It's about
• 22:53
Speaker 11: sixty percent of the people who are moving to West
• 22:57
Speaker 11: Virginia are moving here because they want to get back
• 23:00
Speaker 11: with their family and they want to get back here too,
• 23:02
Speaker 11: and they have jobs and the other thing is a
• 23:04
Speaker 11: big number in there is about eighty percent of the
• 23:07
Speaker 11: inward migration. In their study, those people had incomes of
• 23:12
Speaker 11: seventy five thousand dollars or more. About half of those
• 23:15
Speaker 11: were over I believe it's half. I think it was
• 23:18
Speaker 11: about half of them were over one hundred and fifty
• 23:20
  Speaker 11: thousand dollars.
• 23:21
Speaker 7: And that's what you want to see coming in. I mean,
• 23:22
Speaker 7: we want to welcome everybody. But when you see those
• 23:26
Speaker 7: families that are coming in here and those folks that
• 23:29
Speaker 7: are that are that are making that kind of money
• 23:31
Speaker 7: higher in jobs, that's more money for the tax base,
• 23:34
Speaker 7: and it's more money that hopefully that they're going to
• 23:36
Speaker 7: put back into these communities.
• 23:40
Speaker 11: And that's one of the things I think that under
• 23:42
Speaker 11: the past few years leadership that we've really tried to
• 23:45
Speaker 11: focus on is that in order to fix a lot
• 23:48
Speaker 11: of problems in West Virginia, the biggest fix there is
• 23:51
Speaker 11: population growth. We have to grow our tax base. You
• 23:54
Speaker 11: have to have people here that are earning, and has
• 23:56
Speaker 11: to be attractive to people that are earning so that
• 23:58
Speaker 11: we can come in grow that the number of people
• 24:01
Speaker 11: that actually contribute to West Virginia's economy. And when you
• 24:05
Speaker 11: get that you can go back in and you can
• 24:06
Speaker 11: focus on a lot of stuff that kind of creates
• 24:08
Speaker 11: the fires, the emergencies you have to address. You know, critical,
• 24:12
Speaker 11: I mean, and in a lot of times Republicans especially
• 24:14
Speaker 11: get criticized because we focus on economic growth instead of
• 24:20
Speaker 11: government expenditure. You growing government expense and growing government in
• 24:24
Speaker 11: order to put out fires in West Virginia. But that's
• 24:26
Speaker 11: all we're ever going to do is have fires to
• 24:28
Speaker 11: put out if we don't grow a population base, and
• 24:30
Speaker 11: the numbers bear it out and it's happening. There's a
• 24:33
Speaker 11: few other things I think that really drive this when
• 24:35
Speaker 11: you look back into it. You know, we have the
• 24:37
Speaker 11: lowest turnover rate and employment manufacturing in the country.
• 24:42
Speaker 9: We are number one.
• 24:42
Speaker 11: We have, in other words, lowest attrition rate of employees
• 24:46
Speaker 11: from manufacturers. We've had been in the top GDP growth
• 24:51
Speaker 11: in the country, in the top five for the past
• 24:54
  Speaker 11: several years.
• 24:55
  Speaker 8: We have.
• 24:57
Speaker 11: The lowest compensation workers compensation and rates in the country,
• 25:00
Speaker 11: one of the top five lowest there. We had one
• 25:03
Speaker 11: of the top five retirement compensation systems for our public employees.
• 25:07
Speaker 11: As far as stability goes in the country, there's a
• 25:10
Speaker 11: lot of things that are just really driving this and
• 25:13
Speaker 11: something else. You know, we had We've been rated one
• 25:15
Speaker 11: of the best business climates in the country. So there's
• 25:18
Speaker 11: a lot of things where West Virginia historically, if you
• 25:21
Speaker 11: go back prior to twenty fourteen and before that, we were,
• 25:25
Speaker 11: you know, as spots where you were thirty fifth or
• 25:28
Speaker 11: thirty seventh or fiftieth, and we're not there anymore. You know,
• 25:32
Speaker 11: we're we're really climbing out of it. And it's great
• 25:34
Speaker 11: to see we were really got to keep the battle.
• 25:36
Speaker 7: Down and that business climate is so important, Senator, because
• 25:41
Speaker 7: long before you were a legislator, you were a business
• 25:43
Speaker 7: person and you understand how this, how this whole thing works.
• 25:47
Speaker 5: And again to go from where.
• 25:48
Speaker 7: We were, and again you can look at different metrics,
• 25:51
Speaker 7: different numbers, whatever survey you want to look at, but ten, fifteen,
• 25:55
Speaker 7: twenty years ago, West Virginia was consistently ranked as the
• 25:58
Speaker 7: worst places in the country to do business. Now we're
• 26:01
Speaker 7: seeing we're coming out of that and people are wanting
• 26:05
  Speaker 7: to come here.
• 26:07
Speaker 11: Absolutely, And you make a good point about being a
• 26:09
Speaker 11: business person and focused on economics and why that's important.
• 26:14
Speaker 11: I got involved. The reason I paid attention to what
• 26:16
Speaker 11: happened in Charleston, because when I first started business, I
• 26:19
Speaker 11: knew as a Republican, but I couldn't tell you who.
• 26:21
Speaker 11: I couldn't tell you my representatives working team. A senator
• 26:23
Speaker 11: was my delegate. I really didn't care who was governor.
• 26:26
Speaker 11: All I was worried about was putting bread on the table.
• 26:29
Speaker 11: And once I got that business started, I started realizing
• 26:32
Speaker 11: how much government interfered with the ability to do business
• 26:34
Speaker 11: in West Virginia and how antiquated that system was. And
• 26:37
Speaker 11: so I started going up to get involved at the
• 26:39
Speaker 11: capital and to have those conversations. And this is back
• 26:42
Speaker 11: in the nineties, you know, so I really didn't run
• 26:44
Speaker 11: for office until twenty eighteen. So I started getting the
• 26:48
Speaker 11: interest there, started seeing how detrimental West Virginia's regulations and
• 26:53
Speaker 11: bureaucracy and impediments to business and entrepreneurs was in West Virginia,
• 26:58
Speaker 11: and I'm became very active in that. And by twenty fifteen,
• 27:01
Speaker 11: there's a whole lot of us it just said, you
• 27:03
Speaker 11: know what, we can't let this happen anymore. We're going
• 27:06
Speaker 11: to fix this. And starting in that twenty fifteen lunch,
• 27:10
Speaker 11: and you saw some big movers and shakers in West
• 27:13
Speaker 11: Virginia and the business sector can say we're gonna fix it,
• 27:16
Speaker 11: and it takes time, it really does. But I can
• 27:18
Speaker 11: tell you that just this is just one more feather
• 27:20
Speaker 11: and a calf, one more evidence that to validate piece
• 27:24
Speaker 11: of evidence, to validate what we've been doing to grow
• 27:26
Speaker 11: this economy. So and I mean, it's it's huge when
• 27:30
Speaker 11: you say that, when you see that a big portion
• 27:33
Speaker 11: of the people who are moving into West Virginia are
• 27:35
Speaker 11: two things we all talked about when we run for office.
• 27:38
Speaker 11: One is that, you know, we got to get to
• 27:40
Speaker 11: where our kids don't have to leave to have a job.
• 27:42
Speaker 11: We want to have it so our families can be together,
• 27:44
Speaker 11: so they can come back. Well, you know, one of
• 27:46
Speaker 11: the biggest reasons people are moving in is that they're
• 27:48
Speaker 11: co moving back to the family. Second thing is we
• 27:50
Speaker 11: got to have jobs for them, and we're so we
• 27:53
Speaker 11: tabted and tow we're going to create jobs, create jobs.
• 27:55
Speaker 11: You know what, The jobs are here and the evidence
• 27:57
Speaker 11: bears it out because people are being trained, spurred here
• 28:00
Speaker 11: for work and moving here for jobs and they're high
• 28:04
  Speaker 11: paying jobs. So it's working what we're doing. That's I'm
• 28:09
Speaker 11: really proud that we've we've got to be a part
• 28:12
Speaker 11: of our blessed Maybe it is a better way to
• 28:13
Speaker 11: say that to be associated with the leadership team sends
• 28:16
Speaker 11: all the way since back, you know, prior to the
• 28:19
Speaker 11: twenty fifteen ers to present, it's been a record setting
• 28:24
Speaker 11: era for West Virginia.
• 28:25
Speaker 7: Talk began with Senatory Tarbodave Island showing five any line

• 28:36
Speaker 5: I was looking at some of the other states on
• 28:38
Speaker 5: this list we've mentioned. West Virginia was number one.
• 28:39
Speaker 7: Delaware is in there, South Carolina, the District of Columbia
• 28:43
Speaker 7: was in there, North Carolina, Alabama, Rhode Island, Oregon, Arkansas,
• 28:47
Speaker 7: and Arizona routing out the top ten. Now, obviously there
• 28:50
Speaker 7: will will be exceptions to that, but center most of
• 28:53
Speaker 7: these areas have some very rural areas, and a lot
• 28:57
Speaker 7: of them are red states, at least with you know,
• 29:01
Speaker 7: even if they're not a red area with with a
• 29:04
Speaker 7: bright with the bright red pockets here and there, that
• 29:07
Speaker 7: also tells me something, does it not use sir.
• 29:12
Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean that's uh, that kind of stands at
• 29:14
Speaker 11: at you really quickly, is that people are fleeing blue states,
• 29:19
Speaker 11: and even blue leaders are fleeing their country. It looks
• 29:21
Speaker 11: like when you see what Trudeau, what's happened, resigning too,
• 29:24
Speaker 11: But it's the people that have created dismiss or even
• 29:28
Speaker 11: trying to leave their own mess. The But absolutely West
• 29:33
Speaker 11: Virginia and red states are a benefactor of that because
• 29:35
Speaker 11: you can see the incredible juxtaposition in governance philosophy is
• 29:40
Speaker 11: that you know, if you're going to follow that liberal
• 29:42
Speaker 11: blue philosophy, you're gonna lose population and that in that show,
• 29:45
Speaker 11: and people are fleeing those states because they can't afford
• 29:47
Speaker 11: to stay there. When you come to West Virginia, you
• 29:49
Speaker 11: got affordable housing, you got incredible recreation, you've got high
• 29:52
Speaker 11: paying jobs that are available, and you've got growth in
• 29:55
Speaker 11: high paying jobs that even more and more are becoming available.
• 29:59
Speaker 11: And something else that you know that's really vow Dave
• 30:01
Speaker 11: Dish yesterday too, and unfortunately I couldn't get there. I
• 30:04
Speaker 11: hated to miss it. Down here in Putnam County, we
• 30:06
Speaker 11: have a big announcement now I'm want.
• 30:08
Speaker 7: To talk about that a little bit later on. Yea,
• 30:09
Speaker 7: I'm gonna talk about that a little bit later on.
• 30:10
  Speaker 5: We'll go ahead.
• 30:12
  Speaker 11: But yeah, I don't I don't think people realize the
• 30:14
Speaker 11: weight of that announcement. It's huge when we have a
• 30:17
Speaker 11: national builder coming down to Tay's Valley that just announced
• 30:21
Speaker 11: they're going to build six hundred homes in West Virginia
• 30:23
Speaker 11: and these are these are homes to accommodate the housing
• 30:27
Speaker 11: shortage that we have down here because of all the
• 30:29
Speaker 11: jobs and in migration that we're having in the area.
• 30:32
Speaker 11: And to have a national builder come down here and
• 30:35
Speaker 11: say that that there's such a shortage here that we
• 30:38
Speaker 11: can come in and our business can make money by
• 30:40
Speaker 11: building two hundred and fifty and three hundred, three hundred
• 30:42
Speaker 11: and fifty thousand dollars homes all across Putnam County. You know,
• 30:45
Speaker 11: that's a big deal. That is a you know when
• 30:48
Speaker 11: some people all the time, when New Court landed down here,
• 30:50
Speaker 11: it was like shooting the bat signal over West Virginia
• 30:52
Speaker 11: says hey, this is if you're a business, this is
• 30:54
Speaker 11: a place to come. When you start having national builders
• 30:57
Speaker 11: do that, that is this is the place to live.
• 31:01
  Speaker 11: So it's it's it's it's a big deal. So that's
• 31:05
Speaker 11: only just another big indicator that we're on the right track.
• 31:09
Speaker 7: Senator Eric Tara, it's always a pleasure, uh to uh
• 31:12
Speaker 7: to talk to you be safe out there and under
• 31:15
  Speaker 7: the dome.
• 31:15
Speaker 5: And uh maybe because you know you.
• 31:17
Speaker 7: You're obviously remaining in the Senate, but kind of a
• 31:21
Speaker 7: different role for you right now. And I know that
• 31:23
Speaker 7: you are a workaholic, so and I know you're going
• 31:25
Speaker 7: to continue to work. That's not even though you don't have,
• 31:29
Speaker 7: you know, some of the titles you used to, You're
• 31:30
Speaker 7: still going to continue to work hard.
• 31:32
Speaker 5: I'm full of you. I'm sure of that.
• 31:35
Speaker 7: But uh, I appreciate you being here and have a
• 31:38
  Speaker 7: if I don't talk to you, have a have a
• 31:39
Speaker 7: good legislative session, sir.
• 31:42
Speaker 11: Thanks Davey too careful on the road.
• 31:44
Speaker 7: All right, man, Thanks a lot, Senator Eric tar But

• 31:51
  Speaker 7: America's largest injury law firm. I mean, I've got a
• 31:55
Speaker 7: couple of texts here before we go to break Texas.
• 31:58
Speaker 7: Why are we now naming snow storms. Well, that's not
• 32:01
Speaker 7: I'm not the one that named it, Blair. I will
• 32:03
Speaker 7: tell you that I would have named it, you know,
• 32:05
Speaker 7: like you know, Junior or Carl or something like that.
• 32:07
  Speaker 5: But I don't know.
• 32:08
Speaker 7: That's you know, they did that with tropical storms and
• 32:11
Speaker 7: later hurricanes and so on and so forth. That's something
• 32:13
Speaker 7: over the last couple of years that the Weather Services
• 32:15
Speaker 7: started doing. We we started naming for some reason, winter storms.
• 32:20
Speaker 7: I don't know why we feel the need to do that,
• 32:22
Speaker 7: but we do. Texas better read the United Vans Report again,
• 32:27
Speaker 7: because it said most people moving into West Virginia were
• 32:29
  Speaker 7: moving near Richmond.
• 32:30
  Speaker 5: That's a Texter. No, I don't think so. I think
• 32:33
Speaker 5: they know exactly what they say.
• 32:35
Speaker 7: And again Senator Tarr and he kind of set me
• 32:37
Speaker 7: up for something I'm going to talk about a little
• 32:38
Speaker 7: bit later on in the show. Talked about this big
• 32:42
Speaker 7: announcement yesterday in Putnham County, and unfortunately it happened in
• 32:45
Speaker 7: the midst of a winter storm, so maybe it kind
• 32:48
Speaker 7: of got buried a little bit. There's a lot written
• 32:50
Speaker 7: about it, though, and I'm gonna break it down for
• 32:51
Speaker 7: you a little bit later on.
• 32:52
Speaker 5: This is a major.
• 32:52
Speaker 7: Announcement and although it happened in Putnam County, it actually
• 32:58
Speaker 7: impacts everyone in this area.
• 33:01
Speaker 5: And I'll get it into the story coming up a
• 33:03
  Speaker 5: little bit later.
• 33:04
Speaker 7: On Texas, Florida and Texas will pick up electoral votes, California,
• 33:09
Speaker 7: New York, Illinois projected to lose electoral votes.
• 33:12
Speaker 5: As its extra going back more to what I just

Speaker 7: on the amount of text I got that I aired
• 37:00
Speaker 7: when I said that it was the National Weather Service.
• 37:03
Speaker 7: Let me read a couple of text text says the
• 37:05
Speaker 7: Weather Channel took it upon itself to start naming winter storms.
• 37:09
Speaker 7: It's a marketing gimmick, not authorized by the National Weather Service.
• 37:14
Speaker 7: As a text follow up to that Texas Day, the
• 37:17
Speaker 7: winter storms with names are from the Weather Channel, not
• 37:21
Speaker 7: the National Weather Service.
• 37:22
Speaker 5: I appreciate the information.

  Speaker 4: Texasys.
• 37:25
Speaker 7: The National Weather Service base is what it does on science,
• 37:29
Speaker 7: not on hype, says a texture Texas Day. Power went
• 37:33
Speaker 7: out along Corridor G going around Ruth Road down to
• 37:37
Speaker 7: Willow Drive early this morning. The stoplights and the south
• 37:42
Speaker 7: Ridge five on one cameras were both out. Not sure
• 37:44
Speaker 7: if they've come back up yet or not, but the
• 37:46
Speaker 7: generators apparently kicked on around the south Ridge shops, Walmart,
• 37:49
Speaker 7: home depot, etc. It seems that a transformer blue here,
• 37:53
Speaker 7: so the restoration may be a while, says a texture
• 37:57
Speaker 7: Texas Dave. Could the National builder me to Putnam County
• 38:00
Speaker 7: be building home for the Amazon warehouse future employees in
• 38:03
  Speaker 7: Fraser's Bottom.
• 38:04
Speaker 5: Possibly very possible, Texas Dave, tar is full of it.
• 38:11
Speaker 7: Jobs didn't start coming here until Biden's Recovery Act and
• 38:14
Speaker 7: Infrastructure bills were passed, flooding the state with money that
• 38:17
Speaker 7: could be used to lure these businesses like new core steel,
• 38:21

Speaker 7: but everyone doesn't do anything.
• 38:48
Speaker 5: No one does anything about it.
• 38:49
Speaker 7: I should say winterstore and watches and warnings of all ended.
• 38:51
Speaker 7: But if you're headed out somewhere this morning, you still
• 38:53
Speaker 7: have some issues, as you will know, but it's got
• 38:55
Speaker 7: your window, particularly on the back roads, said some of
• 38:58
Speaker 7: the hollow roads, back of the streets, and so on
• 39:01
Speaker 7: and so forth. A lot of things are still closed today.
• 39:04
Speaker 7: I would say the majority of things do remain closed today. Schools,
• 39:07
Speaker 7: of course, closed city buildings, governmental institutions of many of them, closed,
• 39:12
Speaker 7: we may start to get a little back to normal,
• 39:14
Speaker 7: but the temps aren't going up anytime soon. In fact,
• 39:17
Speaker 7: I was looking at the long range forecast for what
• 39:19
Speaker 7: that's worth, and we aren't going to be out of
• 39:22
Speaker 7: the freezer for a while. Only one day in the
• 39:26
Speaker 7: next seven or so that we actually get above freezing.
• 39:30
Speaker 7: But remember it is January in West Virginia. Now another
• 39:34
Speaker 7: storm system is coming into late Friday night into early Saturday.
• 39:38
Speaker 7: Models stilled up in the air right now, it's two
• 39:40
Speaker 7: As we saw with the last storm. You know, it's
• 39:42
Speaker 7: people want to people want to jump all over this.
• 39:45
Speaker 7: So how much snow are we going how much snow
• 39:46
Speaker 7: were going to get?
• 39:46
Speaker 5: How much? Well it's again as my folks at the
• 39:49
Speaker 5: weather business, Brian and Spencer and the folks that do
• 39:51
Speaker 5: such a great job over at Storm Track or thirteen
• 39:53
Speaker 5: tell you, it's not about the inches of snow. It's
• 39:55
  Speaker 5: about the impact.
• 39:57
Speaker 7: The good news is is that with this system that
• 40:00
Speaker 7: coming in this possibly coming in this weekend.
• 40:04
Speaker 5: Is that it doesn't look like there'll be ice with
• 40:06
Speaker 5: this one. It'll be snow.
• 40:08
Speaker 7: And some models say one to two inches for the
• 40:10
Speaker 7: Charleston area. Some say four to five. So we'll worry
• 40:13
Speaker 7: about that when we get there. By the way, power
• 40:15
Speaker 7: outages as the last time I checked this is for
• 40:19
Speaker 7: I'm sorry for Kanawha County as of early this morning,
• 40:22
Speaker 7: nine seven hundred and sixty four people.
• 40:24
Speaker 5: That was of about seven.
• 40:26
Speaker 7: O'clock this morning, nine thousand, seven hundred and sixty four
• 40:29
Speaker 7: people without power as it was reported at seven eight
• 40:34
Speaker 7: m this morning. All Right, So I want to kind
• 40:37
Speaker 7: of get into this story that Senator Tar referenced a
• 40:42
Speaker 7: little bit later, a little bit earlier in the show,
• 40:44
Speaker 7: and I saw quite a bit of online chatter about
• 40:47
Speaker 7: this story. Late yesterday, Governor Justice was in a hurricane
• 40:53
Speaker 7: to announce a five million dollar economic Enhancement grant to
• 40:58
Speaker 7: cover the cost of infrastructure of over six hundred new
• 41:03
Speaker 7: homes that are being developed in a hurricane and also
• 41:07
Speaker 7: in the Fraser's Bottom area of Putnam County. There was
• 41:12
Speaker 7: a study that was done in twenty twenty three, and
• 41:17
Speaker 7: I spent some time on the show with various folks
• 41:20
Speaker 7: from the development authority in Putnam County, Morgantini and her team,
• 41:24
Speaker 7: Tarrell Ellis from Advantage Valley, some others on to talk
• 41:27
Speaker 7: about this this study that was done in twenty twenty three,
• 41:31
Speaker 7: said that the entire Advantage Valley area, and again that's
• 41:36
Speaker 7: an area Charleston and Huntingson was in definite need of housing.
• 41:42
Speaker 7: I mean a lot of it. But I want to
• 41:44
Speaker 7: focus on just Putnam County for a moment. So what
• 41:50
  Speaker 7: kind of a housing I don't And I hate to
• 41:52
Speaker 7: throw out the term crisis, folks, because crisis just seems like, well,
• 41:57
Speaker 7: you know, crisis, crisis by the just say that word
• 42:01
Speaker 7: a couple of times. It does not elicit good thoughts
• 42:03
Speaker 7: when you say crisis. But there is a definite issue
• 42:06
  Speaker 7: with this.
• 42:06
Speaker 5: Now what are we talking about? Well, Putnham County.
• 42:09
Speaker 7: According to the study that was done again back in
• 42:12
Speaker 7: twenty twenty three, Putnam County needs around eighteen hundred four
• 42:17
Speaker 7: rent units and around twenty seven hundred for sale units.
• 42:22
Speaker 7: That's what they are in need of. That was as
• 42:24
Speaker 7: of twenty twenty three. Okay, eighteen hundred four rent units
• 42:30
Speaker 7: twenty seven hundred for sale units. Now, this group that
• 42:35
Speaker 7: Senator char reference, this is a national group and they're
• 42:38
Speaker 7: called Stonewall Capital and they are the ones that are
• 42:42
Speaker 7: planning to build these new homes if everything goes according
• 42:48
Speaker 7: to plan. And why well, I told you about the
• 42:50
Speaker 7: need for them. This housing shortage that we have in
• 42:55
Speaker 7: this area is the real deal in this Advantage Valley area.
• 42:59
Speaker 7: And again I'm kind of because in non Putnam County,
• 43:01
Speaker 7: but it's really the whole area. And as I said,
• 43:03
Speaker 7: the Putnam County Development Authority has been all over this.
• 43:06
Speaker 7: And I'm going to try real soon to get Morgan Tenney,
• 43:09
Speaker 7: who's executive director of that group, on the show. Maybe
• 43:12
Speaker 7: try to get Taryll Ellis back on the show as
• 43:13
Speaker 7: well to talk about this. But again I'm kind of
• 43:15
Speaker 7: focusing on Putnam County for this because Morgan and her
• 43:18
Speaker 7: staff just do a fantastic job with the Development Authority
• 43:20
  Speaker 7: in Putnham County.
• 43:23
Speaker 4: And I bring this.
• 43:25
Speaker 7: Up to say this, The amount of people that we're
• 43:31
Speaker 7: complaining on social media about this project absolutely floored me.
• 43:40
Speaker 7: Now I'm not talking about you know, there's always those
• 43:43
Speaker 7: people that say, well, government shouldn't be involved in these said, well,
• 43:45
Speaker 7: this is infrastructure updates, this is going to aid the
• 43:48
Speaker 7: entire area. Okay, I get that, But one I'm talking
• 43:51
Speaker 7: about is people. And I live, as you well know,
• 43:54
Speaker 7: I live in Tayes Valley. I talk about it all
• 43:56
Speaker 7: the time. I live in Tayes Valley. Several of us
• 43:58
Speaker 7: here within this building live in somewhere in the in
• 44:03
Speaker 7: the Putnam County area of Tese Valley or whatever. I
• 44:05
Speaker 7: live right in the heart of it. I mean, like
• 44:07
Speaker 7: right in the middle of Tyes Valley. You could not
• 44:09
Speaker 7: get any more middle of Tys Valley than where I am.
• 44:13
Speaker 7: And we all complain. I complain. You've heard me railing
• 44:19
Speaker 7: away on the fact that why do parents not put
• 44:21
Speaker 7: their kids on the school buses anymore?
• 44:23
Speaker 5: But that's another story. And I don't like traffic.
• 44:27
  Speaker 7: I get I can suffer a little, you know, I
• 44:30
Speaker 7: keep it under control, but a little road rage from
• 44:32
Speaker 7: time to time. And you know, I don't like getting
• 44:34
Speaker 7: off the Interstate at five o'clock in the evening and
• 44:36
Speaker 7: having to set, you know, sometimes twenty twenty five minutes
• 44:39
Speaker 7: to get to my home, which is about approximately two
• 44:41
Speaker 7: miles off the Interstate, two to three miles off the
• 44:43
Speaker 7: Interstate off the Tes Valley exit.
• 44:46
Speaker 4: And I understand that. But and you've heard me say
• 44:50
Speaker 4: this before, folks, how many people in West Virginia would
• 44:56
Speaker 4: kill to have a traffic problem. Go down to mcde County.
• 45:00
Speaker 4: And I'm not throwing off on McDowell County. I'm just saying,
• 45:03
Speaker 4: go down to McDowell County and tell them Tay's Valley
• 45:06
Speaker 4: folks about your issues with traffic and how you don't
• 45:10
Speaker 4: want growth coming in. You don't want these things coming
• 45:12
Speaker 4: in because it's going to make traffic bad.
• 45:17
Speaker 5: I welcome it. And again I am right in the
• 45:19
  Speaker 5: middle of it.
• 45:20
Speaker 7: I say bring it, because it's more people, it's more jobs,
• 45:25
Speaker 7: it's more people putting money back into the tax base.
• 45:28
Speaker 5: So yeah, I live with it. Just chill out, chill out,
• 45:33
Speaker 5: Putnam County. It'll be okay.
• 45:36
Speaker 7: And as Senator Tar referenced, there's a heck of a
• 45:40

• 49:21
Speaker 7: We don't need duplexus and apartments, we need single family homes.
• 49:25
Speaker 7: We will never grow to our potential until we get
• 49:27
Speaker 7: competent builders to take note of this crisis. Glad we
• 49:30
Speaker 7: have a national builder coming in. We need many more.
• 49:33
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 49:33
Speaker 7: I don't disagree at all with what the texture is
• 49:36
Speaker 7: saying there, but I mean, you know, we'll take what
• 49:38
Speaker 7: we can get. And a lot of these people that
• 49:40
Speaker 7: are coming in aren't maybe not quite ready for the
• 49:43
Speaker 7: single family homes yet maybe they'll get there. They're going
• 49:45
Speaker 7: to start with an apartment or a townhouse or whatever
• 49:47
Speaker 7: and work there were there, But no, I agree any
• 49:49
Speaker 7: any growth of that, any growth, It's fine to be
• 49:52
Speaker 7: a quick note and then I'm gonna bring TJ. Meadows
• 49:54
Speaker 7: into the little preview of talk line. Did you see
• 49:57
Speaker 7: this item in the news. McDonald's announcing yesterday that they're
• 49:59
Speaker 7: gonna be ending many other DEI policies meaning diversity, equity
• 50:04
Speaker 7: and inclusion. Many other companies also doing this, walmart Ford,
• 50:08
  Speaker 7: John Deere, Lowe's.
• 50:09
  Speaker 5: Toyota among them.
• 50:10
Speaker 7: And look, you know, everybody's for diversity and inclusion, or
• 50:13
Speaker 7: at least they should be.
• 50:14
Speaker 5: But sometimes these things.
• 50:15
Speaker 7: As we well know, can can get out of hand.
• 50:20
Speaker 7: One company in our area that I'm aware of, asking
• 50:22
Speaker 7: their employee. This is in our area and not a
• 50:25
Speaker 7: national company asking their employees each year to write out
• 50:28
Speaker 7: a plan for the year as to what they plan
• 50:31
Speaker 7: to do in the name of diversity and inclusion. This
• 50:33
Speaker 7: is kind of where we are now because you know,
• 50:36
Speaker 7: if you write it out, then then you're forced to
• 50:38
Speaker 7: do it right. But to good for McDonald's. In my opinion,
• 50:43
Speaker 7: so Grima's TJ. Grimas will have to keep his job
• 50:47
Speaker 7: on his own merits, not on the fact that he's purple.
• 50:50
Speaker 18: So as an old school capitalist and also a shareholder
• 50:53
Speaker 18: of McDonald's, all are welcome. Anyone can work there as
• 50:57
Speaker 18: long as they do a good job. And at the
• 50:58
Speaker 18: end of the day, I want whatever decision, whether it's hiring,
• 51:02
  Speaker 18: whether it's what's on the menu, I don't care what
• 51:05
Speaker 18: it is. I want it to benefit the customer, create
• 51:08
Speaker 18: the most value, which creates the most value for me
• 51:10
  Speaker 18: as a shareholder.
• 51:11
  Speaker 5: Period, bottom line.
• 51:13
Speaker 7: Period Texas, Dave, where is Justice getting this infrastructure money
• 51:17

• 51:42
Speaker 18: ahead and become a senator, how would that have played
• 51:45
Speaker 18: into the role of continuity of government, especially in terms
• 51:48
Speaker 18: of the storm that we've just went through. So maybe
• 51:50
Speaker 18: you know fortuitous that the governor did not take the
• 51:54
