- 0:12Speaker 1: This is the Wheel of Time Spoilers podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: All right, so we are here to do a recording,
- 0:25Speaker 2: which means we're gonna start with some new patrons because
- 0:29Speaker 2: it's a new year. It's a new year, and we've
- 0:31Speaker 2: got a few patrons.
- 0:32Speaker 1: We've got some new patrons. Yeah, so let's starting back
- 0:36Speaker 1: with Kristen. Is that the ice of eye here? Thank you, Kristen.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Thank you very much, Kristen. Next we've got hills with
- 0:44Speaker 2: a Z and a dog picture. Very much appreciate the
- 0:47Speaker 2: dog picture. Thank you.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I always love a dog tacks. Pierre Mordari Madari.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Pierre Modari, cool neat name. And also is that an.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I d Bertie?
- 1:00Speaker 1: I think Bertie?
- 1:01Speaker 2: Okay? So last we have Bertie fifty nine. It's a
- 1:05Speaker 2: very screen name name. Get screen name names, but Bertie
- 1:09Speaker 2: fifty nine. Thank you very much. Thank you to all
- 1:12Speaker 2: four of you for your support.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Really appreciate it. And I'm let's see, do you think
- 1:16Speaker 1: Bertie fifty nine was born in fifty nine?
- 1:19Speaker 2: Why not? Sure? Old bird?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Well, bert that would be rough because you'd be how old.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Let's say do the math, No, sixty plus one plus
- 1:29Speaker 1: twenty five is eighty six?
- 1:33Speaker 2: If so? If that is your birth yere Bertie fifty nine,
- 1:37Speaker 2: we salute you. That's very cool if so, and if
- 1:41Speaker 2: it's just a random number, then we still salute you,
- 1:43Speaker 2: just for more esoteric reasons.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Absolutely appreciate the sport, and once again, thank you to
- 1:48Speaker 1: everybody who continues to support us. You know, we really
- 1:51Speaker 1: really do appreciate that. You know, there's people out there
- 1:53Speaker 1: who've been supporting since the beginning, you know, year after year,
- 1:56Speaker 1: month after month. You know, even the little dollar amounts
- 2:00Speaker 1: is what keeps us going. So any amount helps. As
- 2:03Speaker 1: I hear on MPR every single day, you don't realize
- 2:06Speaker 1: how true it is until you see the numbers coming
- 2:08Speaker 1: in and realize that most of the money comes from
- 2:10Speaker 1: people who donate just a tiny little bit on a
- 2:13Speaker 1: regular basis. And so you know, in a lot of ways,
- 2:16Speaker 1: you know, I love the people who have given a
- 2:19Speaker 1: big chunk of money once or twice. I really do
- 2:20Speaker 1: appreciate that. But the people I love, the people who
- 2:24Speaker 1: really keep us going, are the regular small donations.
- 2:27Speaker 2: I've been thinking a lot lately as I try to
- 2:30Speaker 2: expand my podcast production empire, about how to make money
- 2:36Speaker 2: in ways that are not advertising, and I keep coming
- 2:39Speaker 2: up short Everything is advertising. Everything is advertising. Everything is advertising.
- 2:47Speaker 2: The only thing that isn't advertising is generosity through a
- 2:50Speaker 2: donation platform. So thank you everyone for making it possible
- 2:56Speaker 2: for us to have that. Obviously, we do have ads
- 2:59Speaker 2: in these now, and I I once upon a time
- 3:01Speaker 2: thought that was a really cool thing, and now I'm
- 3:03Speaker 2: kind of mid on it. I just I feel very
- 3:07Speaker 2: mid about the whole everything is advertising reality that we
- 3:10Speaker 2: find ourselves in. So I really appreciate having the alternative
- 3:14Speaker 2: reality of Patreon to be like, there is another way.
- 3:18Speaker 2: It just requires generosity, which is hard to predict. But
- 3:23Speaker 2: we really do appreciate those of you who have made
- 3:25Speaker 2: a predictable source of income for us for years upon
- 3:29Speaker 2: years upon years. And of course, if you do want
- 3:33Speaker 2: to get away from the ads, you can spend as
- 3:35Speaker 2: little as a dollar a month on our Patreon and
- 3:37Speaker 2: we will give you ad free episodes. Because again I'm
- 3:39Speaker 2: very med about as I try to make it easy
- 3:42Speaker 2: for you to get around it. I know that's not
- 3:44Speaker 2: affordable for everyone, but that is the compromise that I
- 3:48Speaker 2: try to use to let me sleep at night.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Just twelve dollars a year, one hundred and twenty dollars
- 3:52Speaker 1: a decade, that's all we're asking.
- 3:54Speaker 2: It's really not that much. It's amazing how how few
- 3:56Speaker 2: people it takes to turn that into something significant. This
- 3:59Speaker 2: has been my income, the significant, most significant income I've
- 4:03Speaker 2: had for many, many years. It's quite real. You guys
- 4:06Speaker 2: are actually materially making my life happen. But also it's yeah,
- 4:12Speaker 2: it's hard to imagine another way out there. It is
- 4:14Speaker 2: other than just random generosity. It's very I'm upset with
- 4:18Speaker 2: the system being entirely advertising. I don't like it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's not like we have a lot of
- 4:25Speaker 1: control over the advertising. We don't have control over the
- 4:28Speaker 1: volume of the advertising as it drops into our podcast,
- 4:31Speaker 1: Like it's I hate the fact that it's so loud,
- 4:35Speaker 1: but what do we like? We have zero control over
- 4:37Speaker 1: that other than making ourselves incredibly loud to try and
- 4:40Speaker 1: match it, and then that we end up we're not
- 4:43Speaker 1: very good at that, so we end up with distortions
- 4:44Speaker 1: and bad sounding audio.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Right, Like, I am supposed to be able to get
- 4:49Speaker 2: it to negative sixteen lufs, and I have yet to
- 4:52Speaker 2: figure out how to consistently do that, and I don't
- 4:54Speaker 2: know if that would even actually work. That's just the
- 4:57Speaker 2: conventional wisdom. So yeah, it's it's a bummer. So come
- 5:03Speaker 2: to our Patreon. The only prize we have is an
- 5:06Speaker 2: absence of ads. But isn't that a hell of a prize.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Oh and you get to come to live recordings if
- 5:11Speaker 1: you want.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there's that too. There's that too.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So I know a lot of people don't care, I know,
- 5:16Speaker 1: but for those of you who do, it's I think
- 5:19Speaker 1: I love our live audience who are here now. They're wonderful.
- 5:22Speaker 1: They've provided a lot of support and community and feedback
- 5:26Speaker 1: and art and companionship, and I just I love you guys.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, live live people are the ones that I actually
- 5:32Speaker 2: feel like I'm talking to. I forget how big the
- 5:34Speaker 2: audience is because of how few people come here. I
- 5:37Speaker 2: feel like I'm talking to like five to ten people,
- 5:39Speaker 2: you know, I forget that there's hundreds of people beyond that.
- 5:44Speaker 1: And if something is if we don't have something right
- 5:46Speaker 1: on Patreon, or like we don't have a feature enabled
- 5:49Speaker 1: like that is because Patreon is changed a lot, and
- 5:52Speaker 1: we set all of this up long before, like many
- 5:55Speaker 1: years ago, and so we really should go into Patreon
- 5:59Speaker 1: and like do a revamp of our system again.
- 6:02Speaker 2: The last time I did that was like three years ago.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, so it's not a bad idea to
- 6:07Speaker 1: go back and sort of re look at the levels
- 6:09Speaker 1: and they changed like some stuff.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you can sell individual episodes or collections of episodes
- 6:16Speaker 2: now rather than just having it be a subscription model. Obviously.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I've also been releasing the ad free compilations of old
- 6:24Speaker 2: episodes there. That is the other bonus you can get
- 6:27Speaker 2: there is those old episodes.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Are we caught up on that yet?
- 6:30Speaker 3: No?
- 6:31Speaker 2: I just finished Shadow Rising, which means I have to
- 6:35Speaker 2: do Fires of Heaven next, or I just did Fires
- 6:38Speaker 2: of Hea. No, I did Fires of Heaven. I don't
- 6:39Speaker 2: even remember. I've been tracking it on a giant spreadsheet.
- 6:42Speaker 2: But we're good up through March. I just recently did
- 6:45Speaker 2: the next book in the series. But no, I'm like
- 6:47Speaker 2: maybe halfway through that project. It is a monster project.
- 6:51Speaker 1: And then that kind of stops when we started doing
- 6:54Speaker 1: the ads, right, that's what you're trying to catch up to.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, once I start releasing the I don't actually
- 7:01Speaker 2: know where that is. I'm not actually sure where that
- 7:04Speaker 2: is because.
- 7:04Speaker 1: It was only it was pretty recently. It wasn't like
- 7:07Speaker 1: when we first switch because we switched over in Fires
- 7:09Speaker 1: of Heaven.
- 7:10Speaker 2: We switched in Lord of Chaos.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We switched Yeah, Fires Heaven.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Lord of Chaos was the most chaotic book.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yes, it was very appropriate, of course it was.
- 7:17Speaker 2: I think it might have been like Patha Daggers maybe
- 7:20Speaker 2: that we I don't know. I'm going to have to
- 7:22Speaker 2: figure it out at some point, but that's like probably
- 7:24Speaker 2: almost a year off, so I'm not worried about it.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I have so many to get there. I'm not even
- 7:29Speaker 2: to the end of you and Patrick yet. Like it's
- 7:33Speaker 2: it's a time consuming but also very easy and tedious
- 7:35Speaker 2: process putting together these massive five hour episodes. It's fairy
- 7:39Speaker 2: like I can listen to audiobooks or music while I'm
- 7:42Speaker 2: doing it, because I'm just doing it by I yea, No,
- 7:44Speaker 2: I'm not even actually doing anything acoustic.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Just checking in on the audio every once in a while,
- 7:50Speaker 1: probably to make sure it's what you think it is.
- 7:52Speaker 2: But I'm just dropping the files in by name, and
- 7:55Speaker 2: then I'm going back through and lopping off the thank
- 7:58Speaker 2: you for listening part of everyone except for the last one.
- 8:01Speaker 2: So that way, that is still how you know the
- 8:03Speaker 2: file is ended, because that's always been the convention is
- 8:05Speaker 2: that when Jessica's voice kicks in, you know, that's the
- 8:08Speaker 2: actual end of the episode and there's no more fun bits. Yeah,
- 8:11Speaker 2: and so that I didn't want that to come up
- 8:13Speaker 2: repeatedly throughout the meta episodes, so I cut that off
- 8:16Speaker 2: of all of them except the last one, and I
- 8:18Speaker 2: leave it on the last one so that way, you know,
- 8:20Speaker 2: it's actually.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Done nice to the end.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Yeah, nice, but I can I at this point, I
- 8:24Speaker 2: know what her that part looks like.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it's very.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Very easy to do it visually. You got creative with
- 8:30Speaker 2: the music a couple of times, but it's not bad.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yep.
- 8:33Speaker 2: And then it's just like I stacked them all up
- 8:35Speaker 2: into a thing and I hit render and it just
- 8:37Speaker 2: fucking runs for like two hours. She's crunching out all
- 8:40Speaker 2: of the episodes. This is not at all the episode
- 8:44Speaker 2: you need to be talking about.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Focus Folk focus. Yes on the last of the Tabac.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, with the dragon, and our.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Symbol is the dragon because you've got brand showing up.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Taverer innings so hard. He's just whipping his dragon tail
- 8:59Speaker 2: all over the situation like a cat.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Oh you got Vieran all over it. Ah, And yeah,
- 9:08Speaker 1: it's two last the back. Let's I'll do a reading.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I guess ye. It's heralda yeah, the last of the
- 9:15Speaker 1: tobac rotal Eterralda puffed quietly on his pipe, smoke curling
- 9:20Speaker 1: from it like the sinuous coils of a snake. The
- 9:22Speaker 1: smoke tendrils wrapped around themselves, pooling at the center above him,
- 9:26Speaker 1: then leaking out through cracks in the roof of the
- 9:28Speaker 1: ramshackle shed. The boards in the walls were warped with age,
- 9:32Speaker 1: opening slits to the outside, and the gray wood was
- 9:35Speaker 1: cracked and splintered. Sorry, a brazier, No, A brazier burned
- 9:45Speaker 1: in the corner, and winds whistled through the cracks in
- 9:48Speaker 1: the walls. It's Eralda, faintly worried those winds would blow
- 9:51Speaker 1: over the entire building. He stood on a stool, several
- 9:54Speaker 1: maps on the table before him. At the corner of
- 9:56Speaker 1: the table. His back pouch weighed down a wrinkled piece
- 9:58Speaker 1: of paper all square was weathered, unfolded from being carried
- 10:02Speaker 1: inside his coat pocket. Well. Rajabi asked, think of neck
- 10:07Speaker 1: and determined of attitude. He was brown eyed, with a
- 10:09Speaker 1: wide nose and a bulbous chin. He was completely bald
- 10:12Speaker 1: now and faintly resembled a large boulder. He tended to
- 10:15Speaker 1: act like a boulder too. It could take a lot
- 10:17Speaker 1: of work to get him rolling, but once you did,
- 10:19Speaker 1: he was bloody hard to stop. He had been one
- 10:21Speaker 1: of the first to join Eteralda's cause, for all the
- 10:24Speaker 1: fact that he had been poised to rebel against the
- 10:26Speaker 1: king just a short time before. I think that's a
- 10:29Speaker 1: good reading. So we've been with him a couple of
- 10:33Speaker 1: times before they give us a time stamp. It's been
- 10:35Speaker 1: nearly two weeks since his victory at dar Luna, which
- 10:38Speaker 1: we are with him for, and he's been running from
- 10:41Speaker 1: the Shawn chain this whole time.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, running faster and more ragged than he was expecting to,
- 10:47Speaker 2: you know, the way that the general that he killed
- 10:50Speaker 2: told him it would happen. He's like, you realize that
- 10:52Speaker 2: you've absolutely fucked around and you're about to find out.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And he has not had the ability to do any
- 10:57Speaker 2: more fucking around. His find out phase is entirely taking
- 11:01Speaker 2: up the picture. He has no more space to fuck around.
- 11:05Speaker 1: There's no really nowhere to run, is what? And they
- 11:09Speaker 1: Sanderson says that so many times in this chapter the debate,
- 11:14Speaker 1: I really m the constant I have nowhere to run.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I don't know if I can run or stay is
- 11:21Speaker 1: like this is debate in his head. I feel like
- 11:23Speaker 1: we revisit it so many times over the course of
- 11:26Speaker 1: this chapter that it really gets annoying, because it's like
- 11:29Speaker 1: not annoying, but I'm like, Okay, we know that's the
- 11:32Speaker 1: debate going on in his head, and we know neither
- 11:33Speaker 1: one is a good solution. And then when Rand walks in,
- 11:36Speaker 1: he is a way out.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Yeah. It's like I said, I did my notes for
- 11:41Speaker 2: this chapter and the next two chapters, and I noticed
- 11:44Speaker 2: that about all three of them, is that we're really
- 11:46Speaker 2: entering the part of the book where Sanderson is no
- 11:50Speaker 2: longer just introducing himself, no longer just getting his feet
- 11:54Speaker 2: under him. Now he's actually like trying to walk, like
- 11:58Speaker 2: for reales, Yes, and that a lot of what I
- 12:04Speaker 2: generally think of as looping, like when you're standing around
- 12:08Speaker 2: a campfire and someone's just sort of drunkenly talking at
- 12:10Speaker 2: you and they kind of can't get off the train,
- 12:13Speaker 2: even though they also can't bring any new material in,
- 12:15Speaker 2: and they're just looping on themselves.
- 12:17Speaker 1: And saying the same thing in slightly different ways. I
- 12:20Speaker 1: do it all the time the podcast and ed well,
- 12:25Speaker 1: because it's really hard to listen to and it's hard
- 12:27Speaker 1: to read, right, Like, that's the whole point of editing. Yeah,
- 12:32Speaker 1: So this is where I'm like, I really do feel
- 12:34Speaker 1: like there's a bit of a failure on the editing
- 12:35Speaker 1: in these chapters because I'm just I don't know how
- 12:39Speaker 1: to you know, he says it in the first paragraph,
- 12:43Speaker 1: and then he repeats it over and over and over
- 12:46Speaker 1: again that the setting is a crappy place to stop
- 12:50Speaker 1: because there's no walls, but it does stop the sean
- 12:55Speaker 1: Chan channelers. So and I guess that's the part that
- 12:57Speaker 1: that he doesn't even lead with that, right. You discover
- 13:00Speaker 1: that later in the chapter that the reason he is
- 13:02Speaker 1: stopping is because they're in a steading and that does
- 13:05Speaker 1: prevent the channelers from attacking them. And he's like, if
- 13:09Speaker 1: we run, they're going to catch us, and then we're
- 13:11Speaker 1: going to be stock fighting them when they do have channelers.
- 13:14Speaker 1: At least this way, we can fight them without channelers,
- 13:16Speaker 1: and the trees act as a natural barricade, especially if we,
- 13:19Speaker 1: you know, cut some of them down, which is a
- 13:21Speaker 1: crime in a setting, right.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I like being in Egeralda's head for the first iteration,
- 13:28Speaker 2: I have a thought, and then it's like, you're a
- 13:30Speaker 2: great general, you don't need to debate this back and forth.
- 13:33Speaker 2: It's it makes way more sense in aviends pov. Yes, yes,
- 13:37Speaker 2: you know when Avienda's going back and forth and back
- 13:39Speaker 2: and forth, I'm.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Annoyed, but because she doesn't have all the information.
- 13:41Speaker 2: But I'm annoyed at her as a character. With it's Heralda.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I'm like this, this feels too uncertain for a great captain.
- 13:50Speaker 1: And the way he thinks about it, in every loop
- 13:51Speaker 1: he hads one more piece of information feels more like
- 13:53Speaker 1: a way for Brandon defeat us information rather than Roswal
- 13:57Speaker 1: to actually debate the topic.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And it's not even in like an expositional conversation where
- 14:02Speaker 2: he could be debating every point with Rajabi. It's like
- 14:05Speaker 2: in his head. And so yeah, that did make the
- 14:07Speaker 2: notes easier because I'm just like, oh, three paragraphs of
- 14:11Speaker 2: reiterating the point anyway.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Right, and like, and what's up with Rajabi? Right?
- 14:16Speaker 2: Like he's just the Bannerman vibe. He's one of the
- 14:21Speaker 2: fiercest critics, most loyal followers, you know, he sort of
- 14:24Speaker 2: stands in for all of the men who became Dragon Sworn,
- 14:29Speaker 2: rather than obey Al Salam that he's been working with.
- 14:32Speaker 2: He's just the Tealmanis of this particular band.
- 14:35Speaker 1: And just just follow up with him. He loses a leg,
- 14:39Speaker 1: the stump is healed the towers at midnight, and then
- 14:41Speaker 1: the draw car takes him down.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a badass. He is very much a bowl
- 14:46Speaker 2: a boulder. He cannot be stopped once you get him going,
- 14:50Speaker 2: and he does fight until the bitter end, even hobbling
- 14:52Speaker 2: around on a stump that was you know, patched up
- 14:55Speaker 2: in the middle of a war zone.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Nothing can stop the blob. He's very or what was
- 15:01Speaker 1: the what's the guy in X Men who like, once
- 15:03Speaker 1: he gets going, I don't know, Oh god, the juggernaut, Juggernaut,
- 15:07Speaker 1: thank you? Yes, yeah to kind of Once he gets started,
- 15:10Speaker 1: he can't be stopped. That's what. That's his whole, his
- 15:14Speaker 1: whole literal magic power. Yes, X Men is magic powers.
- 15:18Speaker 1: It's fantasy. Let's let's be serious about this. Is that
- 15:21Speaker 1: he literally is like the momentum he like, once he
- 15:24Speaker 1: gets started, you cannot cancel out his momentum. He's like
- 15:28Speaker 1: infinite momentum.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That sounds problematic. I'm not familiar with X men, but
- 15:34Speaker 2: I can see so many issues with that, so many
- 15:37Speaker 2: different like seasons of conflict in the graphic novel or whatever.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And so like the only way to stop him is
- 15:43Speaker 1: like keep him from getting started in the first place, right,
- 15:45Speaker 1: So he's always like clamp down and irons so he
- 15:48Speaker 1: can't move.
- 15:49Speaker 2: I don't I don't like that.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yeah, anyway, I'm not a juggernaut expert, So moving on.
- 15:56Speaker 1: That's that line. Once he started, he can't be stops, gotcha.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Yeah. They also talk about the Tera Bonners, who have
- 16:01Speaker 2: been a part of the military picture up until now
- 16:04Speaker 2: but are no longer job. He's like, how dare they
- 16:06Speaker 2: not fight real? Gala Is like, I have convinced them
- 16:08Speaker 2: to fight one more time, a half a dozen times,
- 16:10Speaker 2: and they're done, right, because.
- 16:12Speaker 1: They're not fighting in their native terrabon anymore. They're in
- 16:15Speaker 1: Airdmon and they're like, why are we fighting in foreign soil?
- 16:18Speaker 1: It doesn't make any sense to us, right, Like.
- 16:20Speaker 2: There's an argument that the sean Chen are coming for
- 16:22Speaker 2: everyone and a fragmented defense is not going to keep
- 16:26Speaker 2: them back. But that's not carrying water with them at
- 16:29Speaker 2: this time. And yeah, he thinks about how the sean
- 16:32Speaker 2: Chen have learned from all of their mistakes and you know.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And then again so this is this is where I
- 16:39Speaker 1: really I run into trouble with Sanderson because he does
- 16:41Speaker 1: a couple of things here. He mentions two reverse to
- 16:43Speaker 1: Bach and he basically brings up Tom Marylyn right, that's
- 16:49Speaker 1: the master juggler.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Yeah, oh yeah yeah.
- 16:52Speaker 1: And so it's just like these could be really clever callbacks.
- 16:55Speaker 1: And in some ways I do really like that he's
- 16:57Speaker 1: doing that, because like the whole series is like, oh,
- 16:59Speaker 1: you have Meally Skan come back, you have the boy
- 17:02Speaker 1: from and so the idea that he does to aversa
- 17:05Speaker 1: back and he saw Tom cool little like world building things.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I just feel like it's really done in a handhanded
- 17:12Speaker 1: way where he's like he's like, look, I'm referencing earlier
- 17:15Speaker 1: stuff in the series. Isn't that cool? And it's really
- 17:18Speaker 1: put up there on a pedestal in a way that
- 17:20Speaker 1: that to me doesn't feel very smooth, if that makes sense,
- 17:23Speaker 1: Like this really does. When we talk about Sanderson walking,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I'd almost say he's stumbling here.
- 17:29Speaker 2: This is the beginning of walking. It's the beginning, It's
- 17:31Speaker 2: the beginning, the whole first book is rough for sure.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yeah, when the when the toddlers like sort of on
- 17:36Speaker 1: its feet and you're like okay, and you're like supporting
- 17:38Speaker 1: it and it's wobbling and like one foot kind of
- 17:40Speaker 1: goes forward and you're like it's walking, and you're like, well,
- 17:43Speaker 1: technically that would be walking, yes.
- 17:45Speaker 2: But yeah, we're just commenting on like we were past
- 17:49Speaker 2: the standing up phase. Yes, he is now trying to
- 17:51Speaker 2: walk walk. It's awkward. But like this whole first book,
- 17:56Speaker 2: this whole first book is rough.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Yeah, when we see what direction you're walking in, like
- 18:00Speaker 1: and we like the direction, we like the direction, right, But.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I had liked the callback to Tom, like it is
- 18:05Speaker 2: a little bit of a Hamhant fisted story, but like
- 18:08Speaker 2: I did like the idea that Tom has been a
- 18:10Speaker 2: notorious character for that long because he has that impression
- 18:14Speaker 2: and it's like even rosel Au Giralda saw him at
- 18:17Speaker 2: a bank but once, like that's kind of fun. The
- 18:19Speaker 2: two rivers to Bacca doesn't connect to anything Noch, I
- 18:22Speaker 2: think is kind of annoying. I would have liked it
- 18:25Speaker 2: to like have an allegorical meaning, like a gwain stool
- 18:28Speaker 2: or something but instead it's just it's known far and
- 18:32Speaker 2: what I don't know. It's not as satisfying as it
- 18:34Speaker 2: could be.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I get a little weird about the tours to
- 18:37Speaker 1: Bac because everyone smokes it. But it's like two Rivers
- 18:40Speaker 1: was this tiny little hamlet that exported very little amounts.
- 18:43Speaker 1: How is every It should like not go very far.
- 18:46Speaker 1: It shouldn't be that widely known. In my opinion, the
- 18:48Speaker 1: idea that tourist to Bac is this like the best
- 18:51Speaker 1: of the best of the best.
- 18:52Speaker 2: How big is the Champagne region in France.
- 18:57Speaker 1: It took modern convey is to make Champagne famous across
- 19:02Speaker 1: the world.
- 19:03Speaker 2: Fair enough, fair enough.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And it also goes back to just like and this
- 19:10Speaker 1: is this is a Jordan thing. Is like two Rivers
- 19:14Speaker 1: area was like four small villages and now all of
- 19:18Speaker 1: a sudden it appears to be like one hundred thousand
- 19:20Speaker 1: people or more.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Well, it had a huge flood of refugees.
- 19:23Speaker 1: It did, it did, but like to produce the amount
- 19:26Speaker 1: of two hours to back that's spread out across the
- 19:29Speaker 1: world and widely smoked those four villages, feels like it's
- 19:33Speaker 1: just not enough people to harvest that amount of tobacc.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Maybe they're had slaves and I just don't talk about it.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I mean, two Rivers is the American South to Robert Jordans,
- 19:46Speaker 1: So we're not gonna anyway.
- 19:48Speaker 2: I do feel like if I knew anything at all
- 19:51Speaker 2: about the history of tobacco cultivation in the South, it
- 19:55Speaker 2: might be easier to like make some assumptions. But at
- 19:58Speaker 2: this point, all I know is that I wanted to
- 20:00Speaker 2: learn more about it because my genealogy interest has pointed
- 20:03Speaker 2: me at the tobacco growing south in some places, and
- 20:07Speaker 2: I do need to learn more about that, but I
- 20:09Speaker 2: don't I haven't gone on those deep dives yet, so
- 20:13Speaker 2: I have no idea what kind of acreage to retail
- 20:17Speaker 2: conversion there is at all. I have no sense of that. Like,
- 20:21Speaker 2: is there some town in South Carolina that was like
- 20:24Speaker 2: renowned across the entire United States? Is having the best tobacco?
- 20:28Speaker 2: Like is that a thing from tobacco growing lore that
- 20:30Speaker 2: I just don't know.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I think you underestimate how much tobacco people smoke and
- 20:35Speaker 1: how much acreage you need to grow that much tobacco.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I just I have no I am terrible with
- 20:40Speaker 2: spatial assumptions. I'm just assuming I don't know what the
- 20:42Speaker 2: hell I'm talking about.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, my understanding is most of the slave
- 20:49Speaker 1: labor went into cotton just because you had the cotton gin,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and that's really what made the slave labor explode in
- 20:55Speaker 1: terms of the volume. But I'm sure slave labor was
- 20:58Speaker 1: used in the harvesting of tobacco.
- 21:00Speaker 2: It was one hundreds of years long. Institutions spread out
- 21:03Speaker 2: across a huge area. There was a lot of different
- 21:06Speaker 2: like areas of specialization at different times based on local
- 21:09Speaker 2: and economic conditions and technology. Maybe there's a lot of
- 21:15Speaker 2: counterfeit product. There's just a whole bunch of people who
- 21:17Speaker 2: have convinced themselves that they know what two rivers tobaccas
- 21:20Speaker 2: and they're like aficionados, but like they've never actually smoked it.
- 21:23Speaker 2: It's just all the sepo effect. I like that. That's
- 21:27Speaker 2: could be a good bit of like that plot hole.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's actually all like you know, camel and tobacco.
- 21:33Speaker 1: That's just like it's wetter and it's not grown quite
- 21:36Speaker 1: as or dryer or something who knows, and it's just
- 21:39Speaker 1: not as good. But it's but it's mostly coming from
- 21:41Speaker 1: from and or farmers who are claiming, oh yeah, this
- 21:45Speaker 1: is we got from the Two Rivers when really, like
- 21:48Speaker 1: the Two Rivers never made it to them. They just
- 21:49Speaker 1: grew their own tobacco and are copying the brands or whatever.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Right, but like their grandma knew a woman who said
- 21:56Speaker 2: that she went to the Two Rivers one time and
- 21:58Speaker 2: told them like the ancient tradition in all ways of
- 22:00Speaker 2: treating the tobacco. So like clearly, like you know, propaganda,
- 22:06Speaker 2: commercialized propaganda is a hell of a drug. You can
- 22:09Speaker 2: make so many myths.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and also like the fact that people's brains, you know,
- 22:14Speaker 1: taste what they expect rather than what they actually taste.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, blind taste testing is a fun rabbit hole
- 22:20Speaker 2: to fall down.
- 22:22Speaker 1: I really do feel like it's it put the nail
- 22:24Speaker 1: in the coffin of the wine industry. Is when people
- 22:27Speaker 1: were like, why am I.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Should have it? Didn't but it should have.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah, there the last two ut three years, I mean wine,
- 22:34Speaker 1: the wine industry and the beer industry are taking a
- 22:38Speaker 1: huge hit over the last couple of years. I heard
- 22:40Speaker 1: someone say like wine consumption is down like eighteen percent
- 22:43Speaker 1: over two years, Like it's insane how much of a
- 22:45Speaker 1: hit they're taking. And it's combo I mean, I don't
- 22:48Speaker 1: know what it's from, but I think it's combo of
- 22:51Speaker 1: alcohol being expensive and everyone being fucking broke. So when
- 22:54Speaker 1: they do drink alcohol, it's mostly hard alcohol because that
- 22:56Speaker 1: is the cheapest way to feel it. And then you
- 22:59Speaker 1: combine that with just a lot of people who I
- 23:01Speaker 1: think have decided a alcohol and wine got expensive for
- 23:05Speaker 1: some stupid reason when it used to be like the
- 23:06Speaker 1: poor man's drink, right, the Winos that was the whole.
- 23:09Speaker 1: The reason Whinos was a name is because wine was
- 23:12Speaker 1: the cheapest way to get drunk.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I think there was a lot of hits on the
- 23:15Speaker 2: agriculture of grapes over the last for something years, so
- 23:20Speaker 2: that can't not be a factor.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And look, the other big factor is the legalization of marijuana.
- 23:25Speaker 1: So many people have decided that they're going to consume
- 23:30Speaker 1: pot and they feel better doing that than consuming alcohol
- 23:34Speaker 1: or consuming nothing at all, because alcohol really is just
- 23:36Speaker 1: a fucking poison. And like, I feel like because so
- 23:40Speaker 1: many people are smoking weed instead of drinking, that gives
- 23:42Speaker 1: a lot of people permission to not drink. It's just
- 23:45Speaker 1: I have so many people in my life who have
- 23:46Speaker 1: stopped drinking. It's insane. It's just like all the men,
- 23:51Speaker 1: all the men, A lot of the men I know
- 23:52Speaker 1: have stop drinking.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I've I've I did a dry October and now
- 23:56Speaker 2: I'm doing a dry January because it's just like, it's
- 24:02Speaker 2: not good, It's empirically not good. But I definitely can
- 24:07Speaker 2: tell red from white wine, and I can tell decent,
- 24:12Speaker 2: decent wine from absolute shit wine. There is such a
- 24:15Speaker 2: thing as really shitty wine.
- 24:16Speaker 1: See, I'll tell you I can tell dry wine from
- 24:19Speaker 1: sweet wine, but that doesn't necessarily mean I can tell
- 24:21Speaker 1: a red from white, Like a sweet red would read
- 24:24Speaker 1: as white to me, and a dry white would read
- 24:27Speaker 1: his red to me.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah. But I also just love really really bitter, hoppy
- 24:33Speaker 2: craft beer. I'm one of those people driving the industry
- 24:38Speaker 2: into absolutely ridiculously over hopped beer. I'm not sorry.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Well, let's screw you, because you've ruined it for the
- 24:43Speaker 1: rest of us.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Yeah, my twenty has definitely ruined it for a lot
- 24:48Speaker 2: of people in the Central Lammett Valley. We get through
- 25:06Speaker 2: the whole Tom's story, where are we?
- 25:10Speaker 1: I do like the way he says, have you ever
- 25:12Speaker 1: seen a gleaman who juggles? And he's like, not a gleaman,
- 25:14Speaker 1: a master and it's like Tom was not. And I
- 25:18Speaker 1: do like that little retcon that, like Tom being so
- 25:20Speaker 1: good of juggling is not a standard gleaming thing. He
- 25:23Speaker 1: is a master above and beyond, which makes sense. He's Tom, right,
- 25:27Speaker 1: but he's a master above all else. And we get
- 25:29Speaker 1: the story where he's got ten balls going in the
- 25:32Speaker 1: air and then there's an explosion, he can't do the
- 25:34Speaker 1: eleventh and he puts them all down. Just so you know, again,
- 25:39Speaker 1: the world record is juggling eleven balls twice, right, throw
- 25:43Speaker 1: and catch, throw and catch eleven balls. That's it, right,
- 25:48Speaker 1: That is a world record. So actually jugging, juggling ten
- 25:51Speaker 1: balls for any length of time probably has never happened
- 25:54Speaker 1: by anybody in the world.
- 25:56Speaker 2: That's just how good Tom is.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Yeah, we're talking better than anybody who's currently practiced, and
- 26:05Speaker 1: he's doing it. I mean it stretches, stretches the level
- 26:11Speaker 1: of believability, right, that he's able to do that, and
- 26:15Speaker 1: the singing and everything.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Else legends fade to myth.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Right, Well, that's a good point. Would he be a
- 26:21Speaker 1: better juggler with the water bond? I mean, I might
- 26:24Speaker 1: believe he could juggle ten balls a little bit better
- 26:27Speaker 1: if he had the water bond already.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, if you said that he suddenly found himself
- 26:33Speaker 2: able to juggle ten balls where once he had struggled
- 26:35Speaker 2: to do eight, then I'd be like, all right, fine,
- 26:37Speaker 2: that's cool, that's okay. Yeah, but no, this was oh
- 26:40Speaker 2: he was younger than no. I mean, I'm sure there's
- 26:42Speaker 2: been some like weird vaudevillian savant like in the seventeen
- 26:46Speaker 2: hundred who could juggle like twenty balls, but like no
- 26:48Speaker 2: one ever saw them do it because they lived alone
- 26:49Speaker 2: in the woods, you know.
- 26:52Speaker 3: See.
- 26:52Speaker 1: The thing is it really comes down to physics, right,
- 26:55Speaker 1: because the more balls you have, the higher you have
- 26:59Speaker 1: to throw the right because there's just a certain amount
- 27:02Speaker 1: of time you catch your throat, right, you have to
- 27:04Speaker 1: with three balls you have you have to you know,
- 27:07Speaker 1: one third you have, right, basically two balls, a ball
- 27:11Speaker 1: in each hand and a ball in the air. Right,
- 27:13Speaker 1: so two thirds of the time you're holding a ball.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Right. Oh, okay, okay, here's my solution. Yeah, point eight
- 27:21Speaker 2: gravity plan has gravity.
- 27:25Speaker 1: That you know that would actually work, that would actually
- 27:27Speaker 1: work if it wasn't you know, actually canonically Earth.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Which it is, which it is whatever.
- 27:34Speaker 1: But yeah, but when you have ten balls, you're gonna
- 27:37Speaker 1: have two in your hand, eight in the air really nine, Yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 1: And so all of a sudden you have to keep
- 27:43Speaker 1: the ball in the air for nine tenths of the time,
- 27:46Speaker 1: which means you have to throw it up really fucking high.
- 27:49Speaker 1: The higher you throw it, the less accurate your throat
- 27:52Speaker 1: is going to be. And at some point you're just
- 27:55Speaker 1: throwing the ball so high that the idea that it's
- 27:58Speaker 1: going to come down within a region that you can
- 28:01Speaker 1: catch it at You're just not that good at throwing.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Nobody is right. You can't throw that precisely.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Oh, the legend's coming in from my theory. We lost
- 28:08Speaker 2: some gravity in the breaking. Somehow during the breaking, we
- 28:11Speaker 2: lost enough mass from the core of the earth. Yeah.
- 28:16Speaker 1: And then the other aspect is just like, not only
- 28:19Speaker 1: you have to throw more accurately, but you have to
- 28:22Speaker 1: throw with a To get a ball that high, you
- 28:24Speaker 1: have to throw as hard as you can. So you're
- 28:26Speaker 1: throwing as hard as you can vertically and hoping that
- 28:28Speaker 1: it comes down repeatedly and hoping comes down. There's just
- 28:31Speaker 1: a over a period of time you're just gonna lose.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Not to mention how you can't do that inside like
- 28:36Speaker 1: you see people juggling like ten balls. Those balls are
- 28:40Speaker 1: going thirty forty feet up in the air, right, Like,
- 28:43Speaker 1: you can't do that in any place with a ceiling
- 28:45Speaker 1: except maybe like the White Tower. Like that's outside only stuff,
- 28:51Speaker 1: which then you have a problem because you're outside and
- 28:52Speaker 1: you have wind, right, so.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Get over that kind of distance. The wind is going
- 28:56Speaker 2: to matter.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Yeah, right, So it's it's it's just you know, I
- 29:00Speaker 1: guess the juggling competitions I've seen where they pull this off.
- 29:03Speaker 1: They're in a giant warehouse where the air is carefully
- 29:06Speaker 1: get called a stadium or something like that. Yeah, sorry,
- 29:09Speaker 1: it wouldn't be me if I didn't rant about the
- 29:10Speaker 1: juggling party.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Now, I was fully expecting a juggling runt because it
- 29:14Speaker 2: is you, and that is an old old Watts spoilers
- 29:17Speaker 2: deep cut rant. Is that Seth is angry about the juggling,
- 29:23Speaker 2: but he does come around to the ultimate point, which
- 29:26Speaker 2: is true, which is that the bigger and more exciting
- 29:29Speaker 2: the feet, the more spectacular the failure at the end,
- 29:33Speaker 2: if you push the feet to the point of failure,
- 29:35Speaker 2: like that is true of anything.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Which I would say is kind of the point of
- 29:39Speaker 1: this chapter, right, like he's that is the moral of
- 29:42Speaker 1: this chapter to me, is I underline. That's the only
- 29:45Speaker 1: thing I underlined in this whole thing. I usually highlight
- 29:49Speaker 1: and underlying things or things like I'm like, this is important,
- 29:51Speaker 1: And for me it's the fall at the end grew
- 29:54Speaker 1: more spectacular as well, right, that line, And I think
- 29:57Speaker 1: it applies to Rant, right, because Rand is the one
- 29:59Speaker 1: who doing the juggling with all these nations and all
- 30:02Speaker 1: these things, and it's like, at some point Rand is
- 30:05Speaker 1: not going to be able to maintain it, and that's
- 30:08Speaker 1: where the crash is going to come in, right, And
- 30:11Speaker 1: I really do think it's Rand has to go through
- 30:13Speaker 1: the epiphany before he starts juggling them and starts letting
- 30:16Speaker 1: them manage themselves. He has to trust his people because
- 30:19Speaker 1: right now he's juggling and he's going to crash. And
- 30:21Speaker 1: I think that's the big difference between him post veins
- 30:24Speaker 1: of gold and pre veins of gold.
- 30:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, right now. Ogeralda tells this story and then
- 30:30Speaker 2: finds himself being one of the balls being drawn into
- 30:33Speaker 2: Rand's juggling, which is on an inevitable collision course with
- 30:37Speaker 2: the limits of physics, right.
- 30:39Speaker 1: And Rand's ability to manage all the different countries and people.
- 30:43Speaker 1: And you know, we even see a bit of it
- 30:45Speaker 1: here with in Navienda in the next chapter where she's like,
- 30:48Speaker 1: Rand has no idea what's going on in the background,
- 30:50Speaker 1: so he can treat the ideal people as one.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, totally, totally yeah, So right, as he's kind
- 30:57Speaker 2: of making his like peace with the fact that they're
- 30:59Speaker 2: all going to die, you know, there's honor in this Yeah.
- 31:02Speaker 1: There's Okay, That line particular is so Sanderson and so
- 31:06Speaker 1: Stormlite Archive in a way that because you haven't read them,
- 31:08Speaker 1: I can't really talk to you about. But like, there
- 31:11Speaker 1: was no such thing as glory to have be had
- 31:13Speaker 1: in battle, but there was honor. Honor is dead. I'll
- 31:16Speaker 1: see what I can do. Storm lighte Archive is all
- 31:21Speaker 1: like pretty much that entire series. The god that they worship,
- 31:24Speaker 1: the God of the land, is the God of honor. Right,
- 31:27Speaker 1: that's the aspect of their And so the idea of
- 31:29Speaker 1: what is honor versus what is glory versus like how
- 31:34Speaker 1: those pan out and the relationship between them, especially in
- 31:37Speaker 1: this last book, when in truth it was very much
- 31:39Speaker 1: about like what the God of honor considers honorable versus
- 31:44Speaker 1: what is honorable, right, And the God of honor only
- 31:47Speaker 1: considers keeping your word right, and that, in a lot
- 31:51Speaker 1: of ways is a very immature weight of you honor.
- 31:54Speaker 2: Yeah, god archetypes often are very simplistic, childish understandings of
- 31:59Speaker 2: things that would be taken with a big old boulder
- 32:02Speaker 2: of salt and nuance.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Right, right, And so the God of honors, he's very
- 32:06Speaker 1: little nuanced and so like. But to see this line
- 32:09Speaker 1: being written by Sanderson at this point before he wrote
- 32:14Speaker 1: it's very much like, oh, yeah, you were definitely thinking
- 32:16Speaker 1: about your God of honor in this moment and how
- 32:19Speaker 1: that applies to the Stormalide Archive.
- 32:20Speaker 2: So that's fun. I mean, it's annoying, but it's fun and.
- 32:25Speaker 1: It's a little bit. It's one of the things I
- 32:27Speaker 1: have noticed in going back and reading these three books
- 32:30Speaker 1: is Sanderson, you know, he is who he is, and
- 32:33Speaker 1: he was thinking and planning about the Stormalode Archive and
- 32:35Speaker 1: his world long before they came out, and when he
- 32:38Speaker 1: was writing this stuff, you know, he knew what his
- 32:41Speaker 1: big world was looking like. And there's certainly things in
- 32:45Speaker 1: there that are I'm not going to say references, but
- 32:47Speaker 1: it's obvious that that's where his head was at and
- 32:50Speaker 1: he was thinking about those sorts of things while he
- 32:53Speaker 1: was writing this book.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Sure, sure, I have an upcoming episode on Used to Sow,
- 32:59Speaker 2: my other podcast with my mom, where what we're doing
- 33:01Speaker 2: Marcia going to record it, I think tomorrow or the
- 33:03Speaker 2: next day. Is this song that she wrote thirty years
- 33:06Speaker 2: ago that is a folk song ballad that literally just
- 33:11Speaker 2: is everything that we're doing with the podcast now. It's
- 33:13Speaker 2: the same themes, it's the same concepts. It is a
- 33:16Speaker 2: song about a sewing machine, and it captures every single
- 33:19Speaker 2: one of the rants that she goes on in the
- 33:22Speaker 2: course of the podcast, like about fast fashion and about
- 33:24Speaker 2: planned obsolescence, and about American history and like and it's
- 33:27Speaker 2: this song that she wrote thirty years ago, and it's like,
- 33:30Speaker 2: this is just proof, here's just proof that she's been
- 33:33Speaker 2: on this train of thought for a long time, right.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Right right, And that's why you know, sometimes I think authors,
- 33:41Speaker 1: they write some good books when they first start, and
- 33:44Speaker 1: then they've had they like they're on that same train
- 33:46Speaker 1: of thought thirty years later, and it like sometimes that's
- 33:49Speaker 1: why I think later writing has become very repetitive and
- 33:51Speaker 1: very bad, because there's like, Okay, we've heard this like,
- 33:54Speaker 1: give me something new, and it's like, as people, we
- 33:56Speaker 1: don't change that much. Oftentimes we're on the same tracks,
- 33:59Speaker 1: in the same ruts, thinking about the same things year
- 34:02Speaker 1: after year after year.
- 34:03Speaker 2: Well maybe if you're boring. A lot of people have
- 34:06Speaker 2: careers that are interesting. They managed to buck the trend.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yes, but you know, it's what if you know, It's
- 34:14Speaker 1: like when comedians start telling jokes about traveling in airports,
- 34:17Speaker 1: it's like, because that's all they ever experience, you know,
- 34:22Speaker 1: and it's like they're telling what they know. What they
- 34:25Speaker 1: know is the life of being a comedian. And sometimes
- 34:27Speaker 1: I think that writers end up writing the life of
- 34:30Speaker 1: being a writer.
- 34:31Speaker 2: I've definitely noticed a lot of YouTubers have switched to
- 34:34Speaker 2: very like micro observations from within the home, interspersed with
- 34:38Speaker 2: talking about having a baby.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just like, I.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Think I know what's going on in your life. You
- 34:43Speaker 2: don't get out much because you have a baby, and
- 34:45Speaker 2: so you're making content based on whatever random object was
- 34:49Speaker 2: in the living room at the time that you had
- 34:51Speaker 2: a deadline.
- 34:53Speaker 1: And Athlet makes a good point that authors write what's
- 34:57Speaker 1: else is, well, you know, you sell something, Maybe you
- 34:58Speaker 1: wrote three or four books. A lot of them didn't sell,
- 35:01Speaker 1: but then this archetype of a book sells, and maybe
- 35:05Speaker 1: that's all you can sell to your publisher. Maybe that's
- 35:06Speaker 1: all the publisher will publish. And maybe you don't really
- 35:08Speaker 1: want to do it anymore. Maybe you do want to
- 35:10Speaker 1: write something different, but that doesn't necessarily sell.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I did. On Hot Nuance, I did an interview
- 35:15Speaker 2: with Kate Elliott, who's been writing for longer than either
- 35:19Speaker 2: of us have been alive.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I've read many of her books.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Yeah, And she was talking about how she thinks she
- 35:25Speaker 2: has more ideas now than she ever has in her career,
- 35:28Speaker 2: like everything she writes inspires her to learn something else
- 35:31Speaker 2: and have another thing. So I definitely think that. I mean,
- 35:36Speaker 2: she also talked a lot about the I mean a
- 35:37Speaker 2: lot of that interview with about the industry and issues
- 35:39Speaker 2: in the publishing industry too, So there's definitely like a
- 35:43Speaker 2: real dampening effect on people's potential for creativity.
- 35:46Speaker 1: That.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Yeah, sometimes people stifle their own creativity preemptively in order
- 35:50Speaker 2: to fit in, and that is that's a shame.
- 35:54Speaker 1: And I've found that in my own brain. I feel
- 35:57Speaker 1: like I've I've I'm not doing as good job as
- 36:02Speaker 1: consuming as many sources of information as I used to.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I'm finding it more difficult to find reliable sources of information,
- 36:08Speaker 1: and so I find that I really, at least personally,
- 36:11Speaker 1: am on some repetitive cycles where as I look for
- 36:15Speaker 1: new content to consume because I'm not in school. I've
- 36:19Speaker 1: now been at my job for three almost four years, no,
- 36:23Speaker 1: almost three years, and I'm not really you know, I'm
- 36:26Speaker 1: learning stuff, but not at the rate when I first started.
- 36:28Speaker 1: You know, the podcast is pretty self sufficient, you know.
- 36:31Speaker 1: So I'm really at this point and like, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: I've watched all the YouTube I'm not finding new YouTube
- 36:36Speaker 1: content creators, the whole thing with TikTok going away. I'm
- 36:40Speaker 1: just I'm a struggling a little bit to find new, good,
- 36:43Speaker 1: interesting information that is stimulating to my brain. And maybe
- 36:47Speaker 1: I need to go back to school in some form,
- 36:49Speaker 1: like start taking classes again and actually get like a
- 36:51Speaker 1: structured kind of information, because I feel like I've pulled
- 36:55Speaker 1: what I can out of the Internet the way it
- 36:57Speaker 1: currently exists.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I mean, maybe book like The Longmooks. Yeah, a complete
- 37:04Speaker 2: like several hundred thesis statement by an author, like a
- 37:08Speaker 2: little bite sized chunks of school like commitment.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Right, right right, Yeah, that's actually not a bad idea.
- 37:15Speaker 2: They're they're nice because they're like podcasts and that you
- 37:18Speaker 2: can listen to them, but they're much much longer form
- 37:20Speaker 2: and much longer thoughts to get through. So yeah, you know,
- 37:25Speaker 2: i've books are nonfiction books could potentially be a way
- 37:30Speaker 2: to scratch that, because there's always infinitely cool books to read.
- 37:34Speaker 2: One's coming out old ones that are classics, like you'll
- 37:37Speaker 2: never run out of good books, like the internet might
- 37:39Speaker 2: be going all to hell, but like books have been written,
- 37:42Speaker 2: there's already more books than you could ever read, and.
- 37:44Speaker 1: That's probably you do like Battle the Bastards.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Behind the Bastards podcasts.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Behind the Bastards, Sorry, not Battle the Bastards behind, because
- 37:53Speaker 1: that's like the kind of I think biographies are a
- 37:56Speaker 1: pretty good way of transition from fantasy about fictional people
- 37:59Speaker 1: to act about real people.
- 38:01Speaker 2: And those are long form essays. That's long form, like
- 38:05Speaker 2: it's not technically books, but he's written books worth of
- 38:07Speaker 2: essays at this.
- 38:08Speaker 1: And then just getting in that context. Yeah yeah, so
- 38:12Speaker 1: but then then I started look at I look at history,
- 38:14Speaker 1: I look at science, you know, I look at like infrastructure,
- 38:17Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. I'm just trying to look at
- 38:20Speaker 1: other categories where I'm seeking information anyway, not super important.
- 38:25Speaker 2: But not particularly no, but it is fun to all that,
- 38:30Speaker 2: all right, So book book focus.
- 38:33Speaker 1: So yeah, we were talking about honor, and then incomes
- 38:37Speaker 1: a man, a random ass man who turns out to
- 38:40Speaker 1: be randol Thor, walking in by himself.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Right, So this message of what comes up and says
- 38:46Speaker 2: a random man wants to talk to you, and he's like,
- 38:48Speaker 2: all right, everyone gather around and let's let's decide about
- 38:53Speaker 2: how shitty we feel as a team before this random
- 38:56Speaker 2: stranger shows up. So that way, the random stranger can
- 38:58Speaker 2: show up and completely blow all of that plot completely
- 39:01Speaker 2: out of the water and make it meaningless. Let's do
- 39:04Speaker 2: that for two pages.
- 39:05Speaker 1: The thing with Rand showing up in a steading does
- 39:09Speaker 1: not feel very like I was like, oh okay, wait,
- 39:14Speaker 1: he's showing up in the setting where he can't channel,
- 39:16Speaker 1: and he's like making himself vulnerable. This feels very post
- 39:20Speaker 1: Veins of Gold, right. It doesn't feel like something that paranoid,
- 39:25Speaker 1: angry Rand would do. It doesn't feel like he nearly
- 39:28Speaker 1: bail fires the Borderlanders for asking to meet with him
- 39:31Speaker 1: in a steading.
- 39:32Speaker 2: But he's also feeling really reckless and on a time crunch,
- 39:35Speaker 2: and he's like, I'm just gonna deal with e Toiraldo,
- 39:37Speaker 2: so I could see him kind of tunnel visioning. I'm like,
- 39:39Speaker 2: I'm just going to go to him and tell him
- 39:41Speaker 2: what's what, and I'll be the end of it. But
- 39:44Speaker 2: I agree, it feels like he should have shown up
- 39:47Speaker 2: with a ring of maidens with spears at this point.
- 39:51Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, the hole showing up by himself being trusting.
- 39:54Speaker 1: That feels very post Veins of Gold right now. It
- 39:57Speaker 1: feels like he should be paranoid, angry, you know, demanding
- 40:01Speaker 1: they come outside of the stetting to meet with him,
- 40:03Speaker 1: that sort of thing.
- 40:04Speaker 2: Right, Yes, I mean, as we get into in the
- 40:07Speaker 2: Avanda chapter, like the maidens are pissed that he left
- 40:09Speaker 2: them behind, and I'm like, I kind of am agreeing
- 40:11Speaker 2: with them, Like why would you go somewhere you can't
- 40:13Speaker 2: channel without your literal bodyguard?
- 40:17Speaker 1: Right right? Yeah? That that decision doesn't make sense to
- 40:22Speaker 1: me on a couple of different levels, both in terms
- 40:24Speaker 1: of like Ran making that decision and also just like
- 40:28Speaker 1: Rand's paranoia about like where he's meeting with people.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's very why would he he trusts I
- 40:36Speaker 2: Toalda because I Toalda doesn't want to have anything to
- 40:38Speaker 2: do with him.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Maybe right, Maybe yeah, I I that he's surprising him
- 40:45Speaker 1: and coming to him. But yeah again I this this
- 40:47Speaker 1: feels like it was written to be post Veins of Gold,
- 40:50Speaker 1: but because timing wise, like, we don't see him be
- 40:54Speaker 1: very demanding. He's kind of rational in this one. He's
- 40:58Speaker 1: like he's supposed to be going over the edge. He's
- 41:00Speaker 1: supposed to be you know, Darth Rand at his worst
- 41:03Speaker 1: in this moment, right.
- 41:04Speaker 2: But instead he convinces I Toalda, who is objectively the
- 41:08Speaker 2: strongest willed, most clear eyed of the great.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Generals, right right.
- 41:12Speaker 2: You'd think that he'd be because he looks at Rand
- 41:14Speaker 2: and says, wow, he has Alsalam's eyes. Not he has
- 41:18Speaker 2: the eyes of a storm cloud packed into the body
- 41:21Speaker 2: of a man, right right, Which is the vibe he's
- 41:23Speaker 2: giving off to literally everyone else for the rest of
- 41:26Speaker 2: the book.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, I know this. This does feel like it's
- 41:30Speaker 1: just an out of place scene to me.
- 41:32Speaker 2: I wonder if it really was written for after and
- 41:34Speaker 2: then they were like, no, the timeline's fucky, you gotta
- 41:37Speaker 2: scoosh it in before theory, it's Demondred and Mask of Mirrors.
- 41:43Speaker 2: But yeah, it's I agree, it feels very out of character.
- 41:48Speaker 1: He's a general. There's no darkness around him, there's no.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Like Etereralda's a good judge of character, and he doesn't
- 41:55Speaker 2: sense that Rand is essentially a serial killer on a
- 41:57Speaker 2: short leage.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 41:58Speaker 2: Maybe this is like super loose therein. Maybe this is
- 42:01Speaker 2: just an entirely loose there in afternoon and like Rand
- 42:05Speaker 2: is completely in the back of his head sobbing and rocking,
- 42:07Speaker 2: and this is just pure loose therein on point mm hmm.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Because there is that line, right, I remember each of
- 42:13Speaker 1: them there faces, their mannerisms, the way they speak and
- 42:15Speaker 1: act is if I've known them for a thousand years,
- 42:18Speaker 1: I remember them better than I remember my own childhood.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Sometimes I am the dragon reborn. That is such a
- 42:24Speaker 1: post Veins of Gold line.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but he also uses the phrase spinning gateways, which
- 42:30Speaker 2: is a very lttism, right right, So like it's yeah,
- 42:34Speaker 2: it feels integrated. It feels like the integrated version.
- 42:37Speaker 1: This feels like integrated Rand. To me, it feels like
- 42:39Speaker 1: an out of place integrated Rand. There's no none of
- 42:44Speaker 1: the indications that we're dealing with darth Rand.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he doesn't get mad at a Toeralda for wanting proof.
- 42:50Speaker 2: He doesn't get angry at the dragon sworn for existing.
- 42:55Speaker 2: He's so chill, and it might be the chill of
- 42:57Speaker 2: being frozen and about tear RUPs. That's clearly what we're
- 43:00Speaker 2: supposed to think because of the timeline. But you're right,
- 43:02Speaker 2: like if this had been in a Veins of a
- 43:04Speaker 2: post Veins of Gold section, it would have felt more
- 43:08Speaker 2: smooth that I'd never noticed that, But you're so right.
- 43:11Speaker 1: The whole line about I remember I am the dragon reborn, like, no,
- 43:15Speaker 1: that's not where he is right now, Right now, he's saying,
- 43:18Speaker 1: I am not Lewis Thearren. This is crazy. I'm not
- 43:20Speaker 1: that crazy man right like I'm gonna die. He's a
- 43:23Speaker 1: voice in my head, like, yes I have, And he
- 43:25Speaker 1: talks about I have some of the memories, but he
- 43:27Speaker 1: doesn't say I am the you know, like, uh, this
- 43:30Speaker 1: is a post Vans of Gold scene.
- 43:32Speaker 2: Yep, out of place, yep, nodding, nodding, but you in.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Order to make the timelines work, you know. I think
- 43:39Speaker 1: he just had to move it. I think this. I
- 43:40Speaker 1: bet he originally wrote this as a post fins of
- 43:42Speaker 1: Gold and moved it forward to deal with recruiting AEDERALDA.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Yeah, so Rand apologizes Ish for bringing the iel in
- 43:54Speaker 2: and having it not be as effective as he wanted.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Again apologizing Rand pre fans of Gold.
- 44:00Speaker 2: No, no, it'sn't exactly an apology, but it's closer to
- 44:04Speaker 2: an apology than Darth Rand would ever get with a
- 44:06Speaker 2: ten foot pole. But yeah. He talks to Toaldo about
- 44:10Speaker 2: his plan with the kidnapping to make the Merchant Council work,
- 44:13Speaker 2: and then he proves that he is, you know, aside
- 44:17Speaker 2: from the whole not noticing that Rand is Darth Rand thing.
- 44:19Speaker 2: He responds very well to the Ashaman proposition. You know, yeah,
- 44:23Speaker 2: Rand says, do you want Ashman? He's like, are they insane?
- 44:26Speaker 2: Rand says, oh, they're pretty good. Terrada thinks about it
- 44:29Speaker 2: for like ten seconds, and he's like, yeah, I could
- 44:31Speaker 2: do some shit with that. Like it's it's what Rand expected, right,
- 44:35Speaker 2: that was what Rand was expecting when he Clint's the
- 44:37Speaker 2: goddamn source and that is.
- 44:38Speaker 1: A nice little oh yeah, Clanton sources Clean's great, we'll
- 44:40Speaker 1: use them, right, And also, I red fighting channelers. I've
- 44:43Speaker 1: been doing a lot of thinking about how to fight channelers,
- 44:46Speaker 1: and you know, like, oh, if only I had a
- 44:49Speaker 1: couple of my own channelers, I could do this and
- 44:50Speaker 1: this and this. You know, he was thinking that the
- 44:52Speaker 1: whole time. So of course when Rand says, do you
- 44:55Speaker 1: want some channelers, He's like, yeah, I made some plans.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I didn't think I'd ever have any, but I made
- 44:59Speaker 1: some plans case I did, because that's what he does.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, he's a great captain.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Because he's great captain. So like, love that scene, love
- 45:06Speaker 1: that interaction, fantastic, Love the way the recruit, Love the
- 45:09Speaker 1: way he says, do you want some channelers? And andro
- 45:12Speaker 1: Alla goes, I would salivate over some channelers. I would absolutely.
- 45:16Speaker 2: His main concern is the madness, and then he just
- 45:19Speaker 2: trusts Rand. When Rand says, no, I've I've basically managed
- 45:23Speaker 2: to contain the damage.
- 45:24Speaker 1: It's not too bad, which again makes more sense if
- 45:27Speaker 1: we're post veins of Gold, when he has people just
- 45:29Speaker 1: trusting him, right, Like it's just he.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Should be snapping at at Toroalda and saying if it's
- 45:33Speaker 2: clean up science clean.
- 45:35Speaker 1: Right exactly exactly, and should be like fucked. I don't
- 45:38Speaker 1: have a choice because I'm penned in and but there's
- 45:40Speaker 1: and there's all this darkness around him. But like, what
- 45:43Speaker 1: choice do I have? It's die or joined with the
- 45:45Speaker 1: dragon reborn?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Right, Like his gut instincts should be screaming at him
- 45:49Speaker 2: that Darth Randt is not a stable person and they're not.
- 45:54Speaker 1: And then he should have no choice because of the
- 45:55Speaker 1: circumstance he is in and the fact that he is
- 45:58Speaker 1: surrounded and he is between a rock and heart place.
- 46:00Speaker 1: When he talks about they eel in the North, which
- 46:02Speaker 1: by the way, we're rands i eel as we skipped
- 46:04Speaker 1: over that, but he's like these rumors of ill North,
- 46:06Speaker 1: those are rands Ideel that he's sending into Damn and
- 46:08Speaker 1: the shan Chan in the South.
- 46:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, the entire pickle is Yeah, it's just it's confusing.
- 46:13Speaker 2: It's pre veins of gold context with a post veins
- 46:16Speaker 2: of gold Rand because plot.
- 46:19Speaker 1: And it's hard to see because we're not seeing it
- 46:21Speaker 1: from Rand's POV. We're seeing an external POV, so we're
- 46:24Speaker 1: not seeing in his head that he's like integrated. But man,
- 46:27Speaker 1: this is this is an integrated Rand.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Yeah no, because it's funny because I was reading it
- 46:30Speaker 2: doing my notes thinking like it's you know, it's so
- 46:32Speaker 2: interesting to see a familiar character through unfamiliar eyes. This
- 46:35Speaker 2: is a point I've returned to it again and again, and
- 46:37Speaker 2: I was like, wow, Rand really does seem a lot
- 46:39Speaker 2: more stable on the outside than we know he is
- 46:41Speaker 2: on the inside. Like, oh, anyway, skipped the dudeah moved on.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Now you're pointing this out and I'm like, yeah, no, no,
- 46:48Speaker 2: this is actually just incorrect. It's not that he's holding
- 46:52Speaker 2: his shit together. Well, I mean, he does talk to
- 46:54Speaker 2: himself a little bit. He does have a little bit
- 46:56Speaker 2: of the muttering to himself.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and we see he gets you know, he embraces
- 47:00Speaker 1: the source and he you know, gets nauseated and shakes
- 47:04Speaker 1: a little bit, and that's the dizziness from nothing like
- 47:06Speaker 1: and that goes away once he's integrated. Right, But like,
- 47:09Speaker 1: he wasn't even seizing the power around anybody else because
- 47:12Speaker 1: he was falling off face first off. He wasn't shaking
- 47:15Speaker 1: a little bit and feeling a little manacious. He was
- 47:16Speaker 1: falling face first off his horse. He was only embracing
- 47:20Speaker 1: the source in private at this point.
- 47:22Speaker 2: But again he somehow like can handle it, hold it together.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Slash Trust site to Ralda because he's an absolutely new
- 47:29Speaker 2: character with no designs on him, as like an airplane
- 47:33Speaker 2: confessional or something like I'm it. Yeah. It feels like
- 47:37Speaker 2: they slapped a little aftermarket sickness on a post Fans
- 47:40Speaker 2: of Gold scene just to make it just to be like, no, no,
- 47:42Speaker 2: it's definitely not postmans of Gold see see. And I
- 47:47Speaker 2: don't know if we're buying it.
- 47:48Speaker 1: I think it was originally I think this scene was
- 47:50Speaker 1: originally written to be post Fans of Gold. It was
- 47:52Speaker 1: relocated and sort of reworked, but not to have a
- 47:57Speaker 1: few lines in it to make it feel Prebay Veins
- 47:59Speaker 1: of Gold. But because the writing was the post Veins
- 48:02Speaker 1: of Gold rand without more changes, I don't think. Yeah,
- 48:06Speaker 1: I'm speculating right, obviously, right. I don't know this for sure,
- 48:09Speaker 1: but going through it.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Now, D sense is the pattern recognition.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Yeah. So he basically says, if you come with me
- 48:19Speaker 1: to Saldea, I will, you know, promise to use the
- 48:22Speaker 1: rest of my troops to free rad demon.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Right, he says, I'll secure your country because he says
- 48:29Speaker 2: this war means nothing, which like, first of all, rude,
- 48:31Speaker 2: the shawn shann are terrible. This war does mean something,
- 48:34Speaker 2: but he says, this war means nothing. You need to
- 48:36Speaker 2: go guard against the borderlands, and Torata says, absolutely not.
- 48:40Speaker 2: This war does mean something. My homeland means something. Rand says, fine,
- 48:43Speaker 2: I'll negotiate for your country, but not for anything else,
- 48:47Speaker 2: and you will go to the borderlands and do that instead,
- 48:50Speaker 2: and I Toroto decides that that's an okay compromise, which
- 48:53Speaker 2: again makes sense. He's in a rock and a hard place.
- 48:55Speaker 2: He's not responsible for me. But I just I questioned
- 48:58Speaker 2: Rand being like, fine, whatever, it doesn't matter. I guess
- 49:02Speaker 2: that's just his whole vibe. He doesn't care. He really
- 49:05Speaker 2: doesn't care about slavery or anything.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, there's no there's no argument about like, oh
- 49:10Speaker 1: but I don't want these people to be enslaved the
- 49:11Speaker 1: shan Chan. Yeah, I don't know. It's Rand is like,
- 49:14Speaker 1: we need to stop killing each other. We had the
- 49:16Speaker 1: last battle coming up, stop it.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Yeah, which I would find more compelling if he said
- 49:22Speaker 2: it in those terms. I guess he kind of does.
- 49:25Speaker 1: He does. At one point he says it preaty explicitly,
- 49:28Speaker 1: and it's like, okay, fine, but like go make peace
- 49:31Speaker 1: with sean Chan. Like I know he's trying to have
- 49:33Speaker 1: that meeting with Tuon right, like he's still trying to
- 49:36Speaker 1: have them.
- 49:37Speaker 2: No, this is part of making peace with the shan Chan.
- 49:39Speaker 2: This is actively part of his strategy to make peace with.
- 49:42Speaker 1: Them, because then he can go to Tuon and say
- 49:44Speaker 1: I stopped the fight with it Toroalta.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Exactly exactly, because they're the biggest problem in San Chan's world.
- 49:50Speaker 2: So but now he's saying, well, in order to do that,
- 49:52Speaker 2: I got a conference he's doing. He's doing three way
- 49:55Speaker 2: diplomacy on top of everything else he's doing, and he's
- 49:58Speaker 2: not having a little mental breakdown. This so post Fans
- 50:01Speaker 2: of Gold.
- 50:01Speaker 1: So speaking of keeping those balls in the air, Sanderson
- 50:05Speaker 1: dropped that one. Yeah, well that's what's dropped is like fumbled.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it's again it's the first book. The whole first
- 50:12Speaker 2: book is rough. The earlier in the book we are
- 50:14Speaker 2: the rougher. It is like we're not critiquing per se.
- 50:17Speaker 2: We're just pointing out all the mistakes with a fine
- 50:19Speaker 2: tooth comb. It's totally different.
- 50:23Speaker 1: I mean, we did say that's kind of what we
- 50:24Speaker 1: thought we were gonna end up doing. Here is doing
- 50:26Speaker 1: a lot of pointing out. The difference is like Sadly,
- 50:29Speaker 1: these are not going to be as positive episodes as
- 50:31Speaker 1: the first eleven books.
- 50:34Speaker 2: But speaking of positive episodes, I do want to get
- 50:37Speaker 2: to the next chapter because it's a really cool bubble
- 50:40Speaker 2: of evils. So you want to you want to give
- 50:42Speaker 2: us a readouts so that we can wrap this on up.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Absolutely, I just I'm so excited that we figured out
- 50:47Speaker 1: the that I figured out what was bothering me about
- 50:49Speaker 1: this chapter because doing the notes, I didn't realize this
- 50:51Speaker 1: was a post fans of Gold. But as we talked
- 50:53Speaker 1: about it, I was like, No, that's what's bothering me.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That's what's bothering me about this chapter.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Putting a finger on the thing that's annoying you is
- 51:00Speaker 2: half the battle, exactly.
- 51:02Speaker 1: A promise, then, al Thor said, I will see the
- 51:04Speaker 1: sean Chan out of arab Domon. I promise you this,
- 51:07Speaker 1: but we won't fight them away any further than that.
- 51:09Speaker 1: In exchange, you go to the border lands and protect
- 51:12Speaker 1: against an invasion there, hold back the trolocks if they come,
- 51:15Speaker 1: and lend me some of your officers to help secure
- 51:18Speaker 1: arab Domon. It'll be easier to restore order if the
- 51:20Speaker 1: people see that their own lords are working with me.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Idalda considered, though he knew already what his answer would be,
- 51:27Speaker 1: that Gateway could spirit his men away from this death trap.
- 51:30Speaker 1: With a eel on his side, with the dragon reborn
- 51:32Speaker 1: as an ally, he really did have a chance of
- 51:34Speaker 1: keeping arab Doman secure. An honorable death was a good thing,
- 51:37Speaker 1: but the ability to keep on fighting with honor, that
- 51:40Speaker 1: was a prize far more precious, agreed, Idrada said, holding
- 51:44Speaker 1: out his hand. Al Thor took it. Go break camp.
- 51:48Speaker 1: You're here to be in Saldaea by nightfall.
- 51:50Speaker 2: Nice, very dramatic.
- 51:52Speaker 1: Mmm. Oh and Asalam, Right, the king? Where's the king?
- 51:57Speaker 1: Not kidnapped by Grendl? Right?
- 51:59Speaker 2: Correct?
- 52:00Speaker 1: Found by Codswain in Towers of Midnight?
- 52:03Speaker 2: Right, not yet but soon.
- 52:05Speaker 1: But I couldn't crack down where she found him. She
- 52:07Speaker 1: just found him because he wasn't the one who was
- 52:11Speaker 1: kidnapped by Elida. I always think he is the one.
- 52:15Speaker 2: Oh, you've been saying that for a bit now.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Oh, Elida kidnapped both.
- 52:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you've been saying that she was kidnapped by Alida
- 52:22Speaker 2: for a while.
- 52:23Speaker 1: Yeah. I know, I know, because there's been.
- 52:27Speaker 2: Well, Athalon says, both I could believe it was.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Both who's the other one who's kidnapped, because he actually
- 52:32Speaker 1: shows up in the White Tower having been kidnapped by Alida.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's Matt and Stepaneus of Ilion.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Matt and Stepaneus.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Right while back, you had come up with a whole
- 52:43Speaker 2: scenario where they were just waggoning caravanning through like the
- 52:47Speaker 2: Caroline grass or something for most of the book, and
- 52:49Speaker 2: that somehow kad Swain found him out there that I
- 52:53Speaker 2: remember you coming up with that theory a while back.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean timeline, that's kind of what it worked
- 52:58Speaker 1: out to be.
- 52:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but that was entirely speculation based on what little
- 53:02Speaker 2: information we have. I don't recall us ever finding anything
- 53:05Speaker 2: more concrete than spidy senses and pattern recognition.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Okay, So so I'm gonna say, and little gen are
- 53:11Speaker 1: helped filling us in. Oh thank you the King of
- 53:15Speaker 1: domon who that was an Islam He got stuck in
- 53:17Speaker 1: the snow and Codswaine found him in the caroline grass.
- 53:22Speaker 2: Oh okay, right, Yeah, he had travel issues.
- 53:25Speaker 1: And remove from Aradomon after the start of the Civil War.
- 53:28Speaker 1: By I said, I so not necessarily under the orders
- 53:32Speaker 1: of Alida, but tower, I.
- 53:34Speaker 2: Said, I potentially Black Aja.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Potentially yeah, who knows.
- 53:38Speaker 2: But either way, he didn't go anywhere aside from stuck
- 53:41Speaker 2: in the Caroline Grass, which isn't even that far from.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Era demon No, so who knows.
- 53:46Speaker 2: He got lost in a plot hole.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Yeah he really did, He really did. He just and
- 53:51Speaker 1: the other one made it to the White Tower. So
- 53:55Speaker 1: no data, no, no data on that plot hole, no explanation.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Yeah, but he has not had his mind melted like wax,
- 54:02Speaker 2: which is good.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it really does feel like he just I think it.
- 54:05Speaker 1: But yeah, I think the Grendel describes him as not
- 54:08Speaker 1: attractive enough to pick up.
- 54:10Speaker 2: Essentially, Yeah, she takes people who are powerful also so,
- 54:14Speaker 2: but maybe er demand's not powerful enough.
- 54:16Speaker 1: You gotta be both. I think you have to be
- 54:18Speaker 1: a certain level of it. You have to be a
- 54:19Speaker 1: certain baseline attractiveness. If you're ugly, she will not take.
- 54:22Speaker 2: You unless Jane forrestratter.
- 54:25Speaker 1: That's true, But I feel like he was more. He
- 54:27Speaker 1: wasn't one of her pets. He was more of a
- 54:29Speaker 1: tool that MORI didn't.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Oh. The Legends even got the quote here back in
- 54:34Speaker 2: you Up that she specifically says that he's not pretty
- 54:37Speaker 2: enough to keep a pet. Mm hm oh but in
- 54:40Speaker 2: reality she had no idea where he was. Okay, so
- 54:44Speaker 2: she said he wasn't pretty enough to keep, but actually
- 54:47Speaker 2: he wasn't located enough to keep.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Ah. So basically, when someone rejects and you go, well,
- 54:52Speaker 1: you weren't attractive enough.
- 54:53Speaker 2: Anyway, something like that, something like that.
- 54:55Speaker 1: The Grandell version of that is Grendel an incel. Is
- 54:59Speaker 1: that what's going on?
- 55:00Speaker 2: I mean, she's anything but an insull, but.
- 55:05Speaker 1: The opposite I am.
- 55:07Speaker 2: I'm editing all of this out.
- 55:11Speaker 1: I do. I do think this is not going to
- 55:12Speaker 1: be said about Grendall being like there's that opposite of like,
- 55:15Speaker 1: there's a lot of resentment and anger towards the other
- 55:18Speaker 1: people and rather and she Grendall would never have a
- 55:23Speaker 1: lover because she would never seed control to the other person.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, she does not see other people as having
- 55:30Speaker 2: any right to their own autonomy, much less access to her.
- 55:34Speaker 1: And that's where the inceel stuff kind of you.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Know, yeah, feeling entitled to other people's bodies is definitely
- 55:39Speaker 2: heavy amount a crossover there.
- 55:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that's it for that chapter. That
- 55:44Speaker 1: was more than I thought we were going to do
- 55:47Speaker 1: on that chapter.
- 55:48Speaker 2: I'll be honest, we got pretty well and truly distracted
- 55:50Speaker 2: a couple of times. That was good.
- 55:52Speaker 1: We did, we did, we did? That was a heavy,
- 55:55Speaker 1: heavy tangents.
- 55:56Speaker 2: So yeah, And as a reminder to everyone, I do
- 55:59Speaker 2: have a park group for Wheel of Time fans who
- 56:02Speaker 2: are also autistic and adjacently questioning, and you can find
- 56:06Speaker 2: the sign up link for that on our shiny website.
- 56:09Speaker 2: Link will be in these show notes. Please come join
- 56:11Speaker 2: us on most Thursdays, not every Thursday, but most Thursdays.
- 56:16Speaker 1: And if you want to come to the live recordings,
- 56:17Speaker 1: they are Tuesdays.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Tuesday and Thursday.
- 56:19Speaker 3: Those are the hot days. All right, we'recording.
- 57:05Speaker 2: So you're back from your little Va Ca.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I went to Porta Varta in Mexico as my honeymoon, right.
- 57:16Speaker 1: It was about three months later r I got married.
- 57:17Speaker 1: If you remember in the timeline, those of you probably, oh,
- 57:21Speaker 1: we remember, yeah, those are you binging?
- 57:24Speaker 2: For you?
- 57:24Speaker 1: It's probably been like five hours, but for some people
- 57:28Speaker 1: it's been more like a couple of months. But yeah,
- 57:31Speaker 1: back in September I got married and we decided to
- 57:33Speaker 1: do the honeymoon in January because that is the darkest, rainiest,
- 57:38Speaker 1: crappiest weather time in Portland and so it was like,
- 57:41Speaker 1: that's a good time to GTFO and go somewhere that's
- 57:45Speaker 1: hot and has nice weather. So yeah, I did my
- 57:49Speaker 1: honeymoon this past week. We did a direct flight down
- 57:53Speaker 1: to Portavarta, which was nice. We had two big events.
- 57:57Speaker 1: We went scuba diving, which was my big event, and
- 57:59Speaker 1: went horseback riding, which was her big event. She was
- 58:03Speaker 1: not sure she would like scuba diving, but she thinks
- 58:05Speaker 1: she liked it more than the horseback riding. Actually the
- 58:10Speaker 1: only issue was, you know, some ear pressure that still
- 58:12Speaker 1: hasn't gone away totally. So yeah, but we had a
- 58:16Speaker 1: great time. We saw on the boat ride over to
- 58:19Speaker 1: the snorkel to the scuba diving place, we saw whales
- 58:21Speaker 1: and dolphins. We saw a giant turtle. We saw all
- 58:29Speaker 1: sorts of fish, blowfit pufferfish, sting rays, no manta raise
- 58:34Speaker 1: but stingrays, and just just a bunch of other sort
- 58:37Speaker 1: of wildlife off the coast. The horseback riding was fun.
- 58:40Speaker 1: I got to snuggle a horse like so we got
- 58:44Speaker 1: back and I started petting a horse and he put
- 58:46Speaker 1: his forehead against my chest and for like ten minutes
- 58:50Speaker 1: I got to scratch a horse's head while he just
- 58:53Speaker 1: like put his head against my chest. I think I
- 58:55Speaker 1: have a photo that'll drop it in chat.
- 58:57Speaker 2: Horses are so like Gary because they're big. Just the
- 59:02Speaker 2: sheer size of them is intimidating. But like they're such
- 59:06Speaker 2: big dumb goofballs right of them. They're so silly. They're dogs,
- 59:10Speaker 2: but like they can crush you, right, And I guess.
- 59:13Speaker 1: I just you know, i've been around horses. The few
- 59:15Speaker 1: times I've been around horses, they've always just felt like,
- 59:18Speaker 1: you know, they's treat them like a dog.
- 59:22Speaker 2: Small. If you're a small, short person, then horses get
- 59:25Speaker 2: progressively scarier. But Seth is not a small person.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Yeah, and then and never of course, you know, she's
- 59:33Speaker 1: she loves to make friends. So she made friends with
- 59:37Speaker 1: a couple of different groups at every event we went
- 59:40Speaker 1: to and ended up hanging out about with them afterwards.
- 59:43Speaker 1: You know, she's she's the exact opposite of me, and
- 59:45Speaker 1: that she just she can make friends with anybody anytime,
- 59:47Speaker 1: and they love to hang out there, which is great
- 59:49Speaker 1: because I get to, you know, be social without any
- 59:51Speaker 1: of the effort.
- 59:53Speaker 2: Right exactly, She's just like and this is my husband,
- 59:56Speaker 2: and then.
- 59:58Speaker 1: That's basically how it works.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: That's fantastic.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: She actually she made friends by asking the girl to
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: hold her engagement ring while we were scuba diving.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Oh that's good. That's a good way to make friends.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: And I was like, we could just put it with
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: our stuff. She's like, shut up, I know, I'm making friends. Okay.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: It's like she's gamed this out. It's not just like
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: a natural instinct related a little buff, a little buff,
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: a little bit of a testic especially.
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Dust you're not going to Oh side note, don't put
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: a marijuana cartridge in your luggage that gets checked when
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: you go to Mexico. Don't do that. M hmm. Don't
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: do that because if you were to do that hypothetically
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: and just you know, because you live in Portland and
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: you don't even think about twice about it. Hypothetically, if
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: they do find it in your luggage and they say, oh,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: is this nicotine, CBD or marijuana, don't think that CBD
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: is Okay, this.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Is hypothetically very good advice. But now you're back from
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: your honeymoon and you're all sun kissed and ready to
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: deal with the rest of January up here.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, fortunately, you know it was it was like
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: nice and warm, but it was a little overcast most
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: of our time there, which was fine because we're from
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: Portland and we have no protection from the sun whatsoever.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: The vampires exactly right now.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I need to build up a tant before I
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: can really go there and freely. But and I did
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: pretty good. I did get a little burn on the
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: top of my head because because I used to have
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: hair there and now I don't, and I didn't sunscreen it,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: and that faded within like two or three days.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: So and so now you're back, you have settled the
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: moving date for your house.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Yes, right, So also in case my life isn't chaotic enough,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: you know, the hoa where we currently move live really
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: pissed me off, and so I pulled the trigger on
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: buying a house. It's something I've been planning to do
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: for a couple of years now, and I did it.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: I currently own the house as of the day before
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: or we went on our honeymoon. So so now we
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: have to move. We are probably fifty percent sixty percent
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: done with packing at this point, right, Like we're at
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: that stage where almost all the closets are empty, almost
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: all the cabinets are empty, but there's still a lot
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: of kind of stuff out on the counters and then yeah,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: we plan on moving on the twenty seventh. We're gonna
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I'm actually, for the first time of my life, I'm
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: gonna hire movers. I'm too goddamn old. I'm in my forties.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: My shoulder is in all sorts of bad shape, actually
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: both shoulders. I'm going to the doctor soon. I'm not
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: want to get into that. I'm having a joint pain
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: in my elbow and shoulder when I'm picking up things
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: that are like a pound.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that's doctor time. Yeah, and mover's.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: Time and mover's time, right, so and plus my back
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: and all like, get of my job's physical. So I'm
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: not gonna count myself to move. So it's like, you
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: know what, it's time to hire movers. So the movers
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: are coming on the twenty seventh, but we're gonna, you know,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: all have all the furniture broken apart and everything in
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: boxes and everything like that, so I hope to get.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Quick, all right, So I'm guessing that the twenty eighth,
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: you're not gonna be available, So.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: I probably won't have internet at the new house, and
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: I won't have any furniture at the old house. So yeah,
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I'm not recording on the twenty eighth, So the goals
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: we're gonna record two episodes today to cover that cap
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I think.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully, hopefully, assuming that we stay on track, which
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: you know us we will not, but we might. We
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: will never know.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: But these look like two relatively, I won't say they're
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: good chapters, but they're short and simple. Yeah, yeah, so
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I think the next two episodes are going to be
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: pretty compact.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Yeah, they're good writing, but yeah, not too many things happen,
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: whereas the chapter after that, which I also prepared notes for,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: so much happens in that chapter that like, I don't
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: think we're going to have the brain power left to
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: do that today, But that's okay because we still have
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: next week. Because today is the fourteenth, and I can
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: do multiplication by sevens easier than any other numbers. Is
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: the cool number.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Yeah. The men talk is like all the stresses in
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: one year, and I'm like, yeah, absolutely, I'm doing all
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: the hard life things wedding, buying, a house, moving, unfortunately,
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: a death in the family with Timber, and that's all
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: not even in just a year really in the last
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: like four months.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you should hybrin it. For the rest of the season.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: It's I'm gonna probably want to not do anything except
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: you know, in the new house, where there's gonna be
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: a bunch of renovations I want to do. You need
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: to rest well and then you know, frankly, you know
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: if I'm gonna announce it here, but like or not,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: whatever me and never you know, I'm old. We do
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: plan on having kids, and we don't want to wait
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: because I'm in my forties and like when you start
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: doing the math on that, I don't have a lot
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: of time to start having kid to wait to start
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: having kids. So it's gonna be like moving to the
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: new house, do all the renovations I want to do. Oh,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: and she's pregnant hopefully that's you know, as the plan goes.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: We haven't taken any concrete steps towards that part of
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: the of it yet. We're going to like move first
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: and do the honeymoon first. She wanted. She was like,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: I want to drink on my honeymoon. We're not doing
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: anything about kids before that. Yeah, but the time is
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: running out for me to delay.
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: That, So no, I very much hear you.
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: The only thing nice thing about my home is that
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: there's really no yard. It's really just like a patch
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: of dirt, little little fenced in patch of dirt in
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: the back and with some what you call it grass, No,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: no grass, the stuff made out of trees that you
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: throw it down on the ground. Yeah that one barkmulsh
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: and the front is just rocks, so oh nice, nice,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: it's pretty. There's no actual yard maintenance, so.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: You can choose to put in plants as you want,
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: but like you don't have them.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: To do exactly off the bat potted plants. That's it's
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: really a no yard house. It's it's a it's a
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: row home, right, So there's no side yard and the
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: front yard in the backyard are both eighteen feet wide.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: That's the width of my plot of land is eight
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: feet it's just not that big, and it's maybe five
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: feet deep right in the backyard. So but that's okay.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: It's it's enough to put a table out, and it's
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: enough to let the dog out and use the bathroom
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: if you have to, and this and that saves me
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: a lot of yard maintenance.
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and then yeah, you can do potted plants or
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: like those trough planters or whatever like to the degree
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: that you want, you know, fresh peppers in the summer,
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: and you.
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: Know maybe someday, maybe someday all on the yard, But
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: do you know this place. Also, there's a bunch of
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: parks within like six blocks of me. So I'm not
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: too worried about not having outdoor space.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: You're in Portland, the City of Trees right right, and
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: you're in North Portland, which is the part that nothing's
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: happening in.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: So I am really I am in the the end
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: of the end of North Portland. Like you go up
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: to the ass end of North Portland and then you
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: go six more blocks and that's where I am. Right.
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: It's pretty low on the urbanity scale. I wonder if
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: you guys are in the tsunami inundation zone.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: We're pretty high up. We're pretty vertical. Yeah, So I
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: don't think so, just because like we have some probably
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: like one hundred foot slope that's pretty vertical. Yeah, up
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: to the houses that are across the street from me.
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm thinking of the topography, and yeah, it's a
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: pretty sharp little promontory that goes out.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: Even though we are physically very close to the industry
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: in terms of horizontal space, vertically we're pretty far up
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: above it, and that separation has means it's pretty quiet
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: and everything like that, but it still give us a
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: nice view of the river.
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll give you a nice view of the tsunami
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: if it ever comes.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I'm as I'm basically at level.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I'm slightly below the Saint John's Bridge where the deck
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: of it is, of.
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: The arc of the bridge or the footings.
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: Where the cars go, right, I'm not that far below
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: the cars right like, So, yeah, the tsunami would have
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: come up really fucking high.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: Yeah, probably probably not. Yeah, unless we're having like a
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: historic level flood up at the same time.
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: But unless it's also taking down like all of Portland
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: right Like, we're at that level where it's like we're
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: we're there's lots of parts of Portland that are lower
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: than we are, even though we're right next to the river.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Yeah. Maybe the little island that's stuck up
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: in isolated from everything else while the tsunami is happening
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: and going shit yep.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, No, I'm super excited for my new house.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: I'm super excited to have a garage that's actually mine
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: because I currently have a garage, but it's a shared
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: space with my neighbor, so I can't like do a
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: lot with it. Yeah yeah, and uh, you know, just
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: get any dog I want, right, I'm so sick of
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: Hoa's telling me what kind of pets I can have.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: You know, I need a dog. I'm going to have
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: a dog.
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: You're a dog guy, you need a dog.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: I'm a dog guy, right, Like I missed. I missed
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: the hell out of Timber, but I missed that he
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: lot of like walking him in the mornings and the
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: routine that I had, and like the dog, like just
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: the having of a dog, right. I know dog people
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: will get it.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Yeah for sure.
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: Yeah, all that to be said. Sorry guys about that.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I think you've already has done an amazing job of
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: evening out the release against schedule so that we actually
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: have episodes coming out. I think we've only missed one
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: week for the holidays, despite my erratic scheduling of my
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: own ability to record.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: The holidays and switching books. You know, there's a lot
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: of space. I was able to just be like, no,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: I'm just going to justify a gap here.
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's uh.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: And you know, you keep showing up to do the recordings,
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: so I'm able to put them out and that's important, right.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: Yeah, well yeah, I mostly managed to fit them in
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: despite life being chaotic. It's a nice little anchor spot
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: for me. It's a nice little like Nope, this is
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: something I'm doing.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's good stuff. And speaking of it being good,
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: should we do it?
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Yeah, let's let's get into it. Thanks for listening to
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: me talking about my life for a while. It's a
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: lot going on.
