Transcript
- 0:00So you all got to go check out the movie Obsession. It is a very good thriller.
- 0:04I'm going to give my rating at the end of this video.
- 0:07And something was weird. Me and my wife will usually rate movies after we see them.
- 0:12And we came up with the same rating, the exact same in a weird way when we rated this one.
- 0:17And we had to give a caveat besides the gore, because I don't like seeing the gore.
- 0:23I know my wife doesn't like seeing the gore. We can't even go see a scary movie,
- 0:27really, or that she's not into that, really.
- 0:30At all she doesn't want to but it's not i guess
- 0:32because she loves me she goes with me every now and then but ever since
- 0:35the movie long legs if you've seen that movie that'll
- 0:39mess you up i you come out of there feeling just
- 0:42oh my what did i just see but that
- 0:45ruined her that movie ruined her for for us going
- 0:48to see scary movies together i almost have to go watch them by myself
- 0:51but i'll get my rating at the end so the movie
- 0:54obsession and i'm gonna actually show this so the man who
- 0:57the creator or the the director the writer of
- 1:00this is curry baker and it's so weird
- 1:03because i knew about him i've always just followed him on tiktok
- 1:06him and his friend i didn't even know he had
- 1:10this in him i didn't know i did not know he had this ability
- 1:13to be a director a writer and put together this like interesting movie i'm not
- 1:18and there's not going to be any spoilers in this movie at all for this movie
- 1:22that i i cannot deal with that i would not put that upon you i i don't even
- 1:26like to see a trailer of a movie because I don't want to know anything about
- 1:29it. I like to go in fresh going in fresh is awesome.
- 1:32But the movie Obsession, this is from film, did something at the box office
- 1:36no horror movie has ever done before.
- 1:40Director Curry Barker's obsession is in the midst of making history at the box office.
- 1:46Despite the fact that a new Star Wars movie hit theaters over Memorial Weekend,
- 1:52one could argue that Barker's low-budget horror sensation is the bigger story.
- 1:56On its second weekend in theaters the young
- 1:59filmmakers movie did something no other horror flick
- 2:02has done before released by focus features
- 2:06obsession earned 23.9 million
- 2:09over the weekend with that number growing to north north
- 2:13of 30 million when accounting for the monday holiday that
- 2:16is just it i would just say like we're going
- 2:19to dive in a little bit further but like the simplicity of
- 2:22the movie it's it has a very simple premise
- 2:25i'm not going to give anything away but it's it just
- 2:29shows that like an idea can spring from something just a normal person could
- 2:34put something like this together and like to me like curry baker just seems
- 2:39like a normal guy you see there's there's people that are celebrities out there
- 2:43and they just seem normal they just seem like regular guys i go to like seth
- 2:46rogan like you wouldn't think that he would be like a,
- 2:49a high profile celebrity,
- 2:52uh, you know, but he is, but he just seems like a down to earth regular normal guy.
- 2:58And, uh, Curry Barker, I keep saying Baker. I didn't even know his name.
- 3:01I didn't, I just, these are two funny guys.
- 3:03Him and his friend is in the movie as well. I don't know his name.
- 3:06I know I should do a little bit of research. I like to come in fresh.
- 3:09I mean, anybody can find out those details if they want.
- 3:12I just know these two were two regular guys and, but they, I found out that
- 3:16they met each other in like in California, going to acting classes.
- 3:21And then they just started creating this, uh, the content that they put on TikTok
- 3:24and YouTube and all that.
- 3:26But what they do about their videos that they always make, they're,
- 3:29they're not just random, like iPhone videos.
- 3:31They do actual good quality of every video they make and has a good script and good.
- 3:37Plot or whatever the point of the story they're driving, you could see early
- 3:43on and just like, but watching him, I never realized this, but now going back,
- 3:47it's like you see it through a different lens of the stuff that he's making.
- 3:51Obsession climbing to the number two spot is wildly impressive.
- 3:54For one, that 23.9 million figure represents a 39% increase from the movie's opening weekend.
- 4:01See, I saw it this weekend. We didn't go see it, though. I wanted to probably
- 4:04go see it, like, where I'm at.
- 4:07It wasn't, it was the very late, late showings that it was in,
- 4:10like, the very good theaters.
- 4:11And I couldn't make it. But we got to go see it this weekend. And it was packed.
- 4:17Where I was at, like, the whole, the theater was filled out.
- 4:20It was packed. So it's a good, like, you could tell it's a little bit low budget.
- 4:25The acting, like, is still good, good quality. you can
- 4:29tell that they're not like like they haven't been doing
- 4:31it forever but i mean acting in itself is i think all of the people in there
- 4:36i think that some of the scenes like like i'm not going to give anything away
- 4:40but like you could tell it's not as great as as it could be but i think just
- 4:44that just the general like it almost speaks more to to regular life because i think.
- 4:49Even when people aren't acting like they don't seem like they're acting
- 4:52the best sometimes it can be even greater because it's like it
- 4:56seems more like real life you can tell
- 4:58that like this is just a normal person doing this
- 5:01role and there was just some crying scenes that
- 5:04it just like that didn't seem like it was like my wife
- 5:07will always look at me and we call like low low budget films we'll like
- 5:10oh this is an lb and we don't really like to watch this
- 5:13didn't feel like a low budget film and i said it
- 5:16was but it like had like some good studios like bloom
- 5:19house and a number of other ones that
- 5:22like put this all together it was i think i don't know
- 5:25how he got this all rolling but it just shows you like that
- 5:28a normal person can just put something together and
- 5:31you never know what's what's going on behind behind their eyes you know you
- 5:34never know what what they have in them and i i just think like i did not know
- 5:38this at all like about this guy which was i'm just i'm thinking about curry
- 5:42and i i really i don't know much about him i just know that a lot of the things
- 5:46is that he just has that intangible factor.
- 5:49He seems like a normal guy, and I think he's in the movie itself.
- 5:53I'm not gonna say anything.
- 5:54I'm not gonna give anything away. I wouldn't even dare give anything away.
- 5:57I would feel sick with myself if I did. So.
- 6:00I'm going to go down a little bit further. To date, Curry Barker's buzzy horror
- 6:05flick has earned more than $80 million worldwide.
- 6:08What's downright remarkable is that Barker made the movie for a reported budget of $750,000.
- 6:15While Focus Features pays $14 million to acquire it, the minimal resources makes
- 6:20the return on investment all the more impressive.
- 6:23As such, it's become the latest low-budget horror film to make millions,
- 6:28joining the likes of the Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity and the
- 6:32Annals of Cinema History.
- 6:34I would highly recommend it. So the rating that me and my wife gave exactly,
- 6:39and we don't usually do like point whatever, we just do out of 10, we each said 7.5.
- 6:46My wife asked me and I said, she said apart from the gruesome or gore or whatever,
- 6:51because I don't like seeing that.
- 6:53I don't know anybody why you would like to see that.
- 6:56I've never, but I've always, always liked scary movies
- 6:59ever since like i was young like i liked scream i was into
- 7:02screaming in those movies and the movie it and
- 7:05i i thought i i always liked it but i never i watched probably the movie scream
- 7:09like i don't even know hundreds of times but i never i always did not i always
- 7:15turned away closed my eyes about like the when somebody was like you know getting
- 7:19cut up or what i did i never wanted to see i just like almost like the the scariness the suspense the,
- 7:25storyline. You know, I love all that. It's.
- 7:28And it's like, I could never get into the movie saws or anything or all those.
- 7:32And I'll even sometimes watch Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 7:35But like, I can never, I always have to like, I start it and I get out of there because I can't.
- 7:40It's like, I like the idea of watching it sometimes, but it's like when it gets
- 7:43disgusting, I don't want to see that at all.
- 7:46I like, I just like the story, the plot, the theme, the idea of it,
- 7:51as opposed to getting into the gruesome details.
- 7:53I don't want to see, I don't even want to think about that kind of stuff,
- 7:55but just, but I do like being scared.
- 7:57And there is such a major difference between just
- 8:00a normal like a serial killer a regular guy that's
- 8:03just like coming after people as opposed to something
- 8:06that's evil the the evil things like
- 8:09with demons or like i think of the movie smile like those mess me up i don't
- 8:14know about you those mess me up because it's not like it's the difference between
- 8:18like if i was walking through my house and i saw a guy a regular person down
- 8:21there that would be scary and all i mean i guess But a demon or a ghost or something
- 8:26like that, that will mess you up.
- 8:28Those are the things that I think that just like get inside your brain.
- 8:31And like they it's like they flicker. They just like they almost seem like they're
- 8:36right there. It's like and maybe they kind of are.
- 8:38Maybe it is kind of getting into that, you know, that that demonic realm.
- 8:43I don't know. It just feels like that sometimes.
- 8:45But I love, I do love these movies. I do. I really liked Obsession. I gave it a 7.5.
- 8:52And that's, I'm a pretty rough grader. I'm not like, I'm not going to give anyone
- 8:55just a nine or a 10. I don't know if I've ever given a movie a 10.
- 9:00I just like, how can you get like, that's like, there's nowhere to go up.
- 9:03And it's like that exactly perfect.
- 9:06Overall, it was a very good, very good movie. Very good movie.
- 9:09I would, I would recommend it. It's scary.
- 9:11You, it's got twists. And so I'll leave it at that. Let me know what you think
- 9:15about the movie. You go check it out.
- 9:17I'm excited to see where this man's career and his friend, you know,
- 9:20who was in the movie as well,
- 9:22where it goes, because if he was able to do this with just a simple idea and
- 9:27a low budget and new up and coming actors and actresses, like,
- 9:32I mean, I excited to see where he takes this, where he goes next.
- 9:34I bet he's going to have a, an illustrious career along with his friends.
- 9:38All right. We'll leave it at that.
- 9:39Hope you have a good week. I'll see you on the next one. See ya.
