- 0:29I Hate Talking: Welcome to episode 108 of I Hate Talking.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: Hi everyone.
- 0:33I Hate Talking: I said everyone.
- 0:35I Hate Talking: I think I always say everyone intro.
- 0:39I Hate Talking: It would have been clever if you had said hello y'all.
- 0:42I Hate Talking: Oh we can restart.
- 0:44I Hate Talking: Well, it's already recorded.
- 0:46I Hate Talking: It's in the, in the history books now.
- 0:48I Hate Talking: -- There's nothing called -- editing.
- 0:50I Hate Talking: Nothing called editing.
- 0:51I Hate Talking: If you haven't guessed it, y'all is our word or phrase of the upset.
- 0:55I Hate Talking: -- All -- right.
- 0:55I Hate Talking: And then there's also other variations of a group of people like all y'all, -- all -- y'all, yeah, use.
- 1:05I Hate Talking: OK, yeah, I've heard that.
- 1:08I Hate Talking: I don't think I've ever said it.
- 1:09I Hate Talking: You guys, hey guys.
- 1:13I Hate Talking: I think that counts.
- 1:15I Hate Talking: That doesn't count.
- 1:15I Hate Talking: Uh, what is it, what did you say?
- 1:19I Hate Talking: Guys, guys.
- 1:22I Hate Talking: Yeah, but that's like not necessarily an inclusive term.
- 1:25I Hate Talking: Yeah, it is.
- 1:27I Hate Talking: What if there's girls?
- 1:28I Hate Talking: Oh no, it definitely counts as girls too.
- 1:31I Hate Talking: I see.
- 1:32I Hate Talking: Maybe on the west coast.
- 1:33I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think so.
- 1:34I Hate Talking: So.
- 1:35I Hate Talking: I guess you can give some history on your experience with y'all and all y'all.
- 1:42I Hate Talking: It's obviously something I've heard for a very long time, but not.
- 1:47I Hate Talking: Culturally, where I grew up, so growing up it was guys or dudes.
- 1:52I Hate Talking: Gang, hey gang, hey guys, and stuff like that.
- 1:57I Hate Talking: So yeah, boys, girls, it didn't matter.
- 1:59I Hate Talking: Um, I just met more than one person and then somehow when we moved south.
- 2:05I Hate Talking: We heard it a lot, and at some point, it just got part of my vocabulary.
- 2:12I Hate Talking: And I don't even think I realized how much of my vocabulary was till I moved north.
- 2:18I Hate Talking: I say y'all occasionally, maybe, but I say all y'all a lot, and the difference between the two is y'all, it's just like a group of people, but all y'all, all of you, like a larger group of people.
- 2:35I Hate Talking: Yeah, it's a little bit more emphatic, I think.
- 2:40I Hate Talking: Y'all can be like the group of people, but if you want to really make sure that you're talking about everyone, and you're stating that you're talking about everyone, it's all y'all.
- 2:50I Hate Talking: Yeah, so I think as an example, say we're talking to our neighbors, I say, y'all wanna come over to play some cornhole, or I could say, all y'all want to come over, like, so there's different.
- 3:03I Hate Talking: Y'all, meaning that neighbor next to us, or all y'all means like the whole neighborhood.
- 3:09I Hate Talking: We're gonna invite multiple houses.
- 3:12I Hate Talking: Yes, I suppose so.
- 3:13I Hate Talking: I also heard all y'all be maybe a little bit more disciplinary in emphasis, like you would be more friendly with y'all and then if you're saying all y'all, it's more like you need to do something or you need to shape up.
- 3:28I Hate Talking: You don't think so?
- 3:29I Hate Talking: No, I don't know.
- 3:30I Hate Talking: I'm trying to think of when that would happen.
- 3:33I Hate Talking: I don't think I have that same connotation to it.
- 3:36I Hate Talking: Like if there's a whole bunch of people that maybe have camped and there's a variety of trash on the ground, you could say y'all need to clean up, or you could be a little bit more emphatic with it and say, all y'all need to clean up.
- 3:52I Hate Talking: OK, yeah, I see what you're saying.
- 3:54I Hate Talking: Um, part of its tone maybe, but also all y'all, that means everyone needs to clean up.
- 4:00I Hate Talking: You can't just be like, uh, I didn't make that mess.
- 4:02I Hate Talking: I'm not gonna clean up.
- 4:03I Hate Talking: So if y'all are clean, y'all need to clean up.
- 4:06I Hate Talking: Someone else is gonna clean up, but all y'all means you all, every, everyone has to clean up, not just assume other, other people are gonna do it.
- 4:15I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 4:17I Hate Talking: So how would you say it in standard English?
- 4:19I Hate Talking: Would you just say everyone needs to clean up?
- 4:21I Hate Talking: Well, I wonder what standard is.
- 4:24I Hate Talking: Cause maybe standard is all y'all, so, or you guys, or dudes, or would you say you.
- 4:33I Hate Talking: Well, there's Pennsylvania Dutch where it would be you.
- 4:37I Hate Talking: As sort of like the singular person, you as the smaller group of people, and yous as like everybody.
- 4:45I Hate Talking: OK.
- 4:46I Hate Talking: So I'm just saying that what's, when you're saying standard English, they get really, I don't know if there's a standard.
- 4:54I Hate Talking: Well, I'm just meaning like without any particular contractions.
- 4:58I Hate Talking: You would just say you all, -- or would you -- say everyone?
- 5:03I Hate Talking: All of you, all of you, all of you children must clean up.
- 5:07I Hate Talking: All of you neighbors are invited.
- 5:11I Hate Talking: All the neighbors are invited to cornhole.
- 5:14I Hate Talking: Yeah, but it needs to be directed at them, so it'd be all of you neighbors.
- 5:18I Hate Talking: All neighbors, you come over here.
- 5:21I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 5:23I Hate Talking: Well, maybe the South got it right then.
- 5:25I Hate Talking: It's just easier to use y'all and all y'all, yeah.
- 5:28I Hate Talking: So what would you say that or what do you think sounds more standard?
- 5:34I Hate Talking: Well, you could just go back to archaic English and use the vowels and y.
- 5:40I Hate Talking: So all ye y'all, ye is already plural ye.
- 5:47I Hate Talking: But y'all's plural too.
- 5:50I Hate Talking: Yes, but I'm just saying thou is singular.
- 5:53I Hate Talking: Like you.
- 5:55I Hate Talking: Well, you in the English can be plural or singular.
- 5:59I Hate Talking: Really?
- 6:00I Hate Talking: I think so, right?
- 6:01I Hate Talking: That's why thou and ye is better distinguished.
- 6:05I Hate Talking: When is you plural?
- 6:06I Hate Talking: Well, there's the Bible verse that all the King James people cite that gives a very clear distinction.
- 6:13I Hate Talking: Let me look it up now, since you have a puzzled look on your face, and now I can prove to you that King James is better.
- 6:19I Hate Talking: OK.
- 6:20I Hate Talking: Oh, this particular verse uses thee as a singular, but same applies for thou, and then ye being the plural.
- 6:30I Hate Talking: So, and Jesus is talking to Nicodemus in John chapter 3, and which did you want me to read first, ESV or KJV?
- 6:39I Hate Talking: KJV KJV marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again.
- 6:46I Hate Talking: OK.
- 6:48I Hate Talking: Whereas the English Standard Version says, do not marvel that I said to you, you must be born again.
- 6:54I Hate Talking: That's how I related it when you said that.
- 6:57I Hate Talking: I translated it in my head to that.
- 6:59I Hate Talking: So why is that?
- 7:01I Hate Talking: Why is it different words?
- 7:04I Hate Talking: Why does it matter?
- 7:05I Hate Talking: Well, Jesus is, I guess, quoting himself, we don't necessarily have this, I guess, recorded that he has said this before, but he's talking to Nicodemus, marvel not that I said unto thee, Nicodemus, but he's in a larger group of people that are listening to him.
- 7:22I Hate Talking: And maybe he had said this previously, y as in y'all must be born again.
- 7:29I Hate Talking: Yeah, but wait, I forgot which one I'm arguing.
- 7:33I Hate Talking: I did I say you is plural or not plural?
- 7:37I Hate Talking: You're, I think, maintaining that you is singular.
- 7:40I Hate Talking: And exclusively singular.
- 7:43I Hate Talking: Hm OK.
- 7:46I Hate Talking: All right, if that's my stance.
- 7:48I Hate Talking: Then I can see it's confusing.
- 7:52I Hate Talking: But yeah, but it's still personalized.
- 7:55I Hate Talking: You must be born again.
- 7:56I Hate Talking: Not like the whole group.
- 7:58I Hate Talking: -- You guys are doing this -- together.
- 8:00I Hate Talking: You have a false understanding of scripture because of poor English translations or transliterations, as some people say.
- 8:08I Hate Talking: What Jesus is addressing Nicodemus specifically, but he's applying the truth to the crowd.
- 8:14I Hate Talking: Yeah, but I'm saying that each person has to do this.
- 8:18I Hate Talking: It's not a group effort.
- 8:21I Hate Talking: Yeah, but he's not talking just to Nicodemus.
- 8:23I Hate Talking: Right, I get that, but I'm saying, so you're arguing for individual responsibility, yeah.
- 8:31I Hate Talking: I see, yes.
- 8:33I Hate Talking: Well, I think I've seen people misinterpret that particular scripture where they're saying that this exact message is for Nicodemus alone.
- 8:42I Hate Talking: Everyone has to be saved.
- 8:44I Hate Talking: So the whole message of Nicodemus is only to him, not to the whole like all people.
- 8:51I Hate Talking: If you read you in modern English translations and only think that you is singular, yes.
- 8:57I Hate Talking: -- That's how you would have to read -- that.
- 8:59I Hate Talking: Now, first, I don't think of it that way, so I do not have an improper view, but secondary.
- 9:08I Hate Talking: I think you can say it to a crowd and everyone individualizes it.
- 9:15I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 9:16I Hate Talking: Which is I think what he was doing.
- 9:18I Hate Talking: This isn't like that everybody contributes a little bit.
- 9:24I Hate Talking: This is a you and God only thing.
- 9:27I Hate Talking: But everyone needs to have that vertical relationship with God.
- 9:32I Hate Talking: Well, there you go.
- 9:34I Hate Talking: So, My point was that you.
- 9:39I Hate Talking: As a standalone word is not very specific.
- 9:43I Hate Talking: It can mean One person or multiple people.
- 9:47I Hate Talking: And therefore I'm just saying that the thou versus ye or you versus y'all or all y'all is probably actually a better.
- 9:55I Hate Talking: Categorization of.
- 9:58I Hate Talking: The audience to which you're speaking.
- 10:01I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 10:02I Hate Talking: See, I think, OK, I guess maybe I'm backtracking if I'm saying that.
- 10:06I Hate Talking: He was always singular.
- 10:09I Hate Talking: From earlier, because think about when you're talking to a choir.
- 10:14I Hate Talking: And or like a band that's practicing.
- 10:18I Hate Talking: You're like, hey, you did a great job.
- 10:20I Hate Talking: You're talking to them, but you're also saying each one did a good job?
- 10:25I Hate Talking: I'm not saying like drummer, you did a good job.
- 10:29I Hate Talking: I'm saying as the whole, or as you're talking to the team, I guess, putting it back to what Jesus said, instead of congratulating them, being like, You need to be there at 8 o'clock.
- 10:40I Hate Talking: And I'm talking to the group.
- 10:43I Hate Talking: That means each one of them must be there at 8 o'clock.
- 10:46I Hate Talking: So I think it's a given that I'm talking to the whole.
- 10:50I Hate Talking: But it's each person must do this.
- 10:53I Hate Talking: Does that make sense?
- 10:56I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 10:56I Hate Talking: Or maybe they thought you're only talking to one person and they misunderstood the instruction and then they got there at 9 a.m.
- 11:03I Hate Talking: because they thought you were just talking to one person, -- which -- is why all of y'all makes more sense.
- 11:10I Hate Talking: That's true.
- 11:11I Hate Talking: Because then they would know that I was talking to each one of them individually.
- 11:14I Hate Talking: As a whole.
- 11:16I Hate Talking: Precisely.
- 11:17I Hate Talking: So according to our favorite American Heritage dictionary, There are 3 definitions of you.
- 11:26I Hate Talking: And number one is used to refer to the one or ones being addressed.
- 11:32I Hate Talking: So their example sentences are, I'll lend you the book or you shouldn't work so hard.
- 11:40I Hate Talking: And then it also refers to y'all and yous.
- 11:43I Hate Talking: So there's cross definitions to those, maybe we'll take a look at those.
- 11:48I Hate Talking: Number 22, used to refer to an indefinitely specified person.
- 11:53I Hate Talking: You can't win them all.
- 11:55I Hate Talking: Though I feel like that is sort of still directed to a person that you're talking to.
- 12:00I Hate Talking: And then 3 is a non-standard used reflexively as an indirect object of the verb.
- 12:08I Hate Talking: You might want to get another pair of shoes.
- 12:12I Hate Talking: And it comes from the Middle English, from the Old English.
- 12:17I Hate Talking: And there's a whole bunch, but There's G, y, you, and you.
- 12:24I Hate Talking: You with a G.
- 12:29I Hate Talking: No, you you.
- 12:31I Hate Talking: And then the cross reference to y'all is a chiefly southern US pronoun, which is a variant of you all, and then cross links to that.
- 12:44I Hate Talking: And then You all is used in addressing two or more people or referring to two or more people, one of whom is addressed.
- 12:54I Hate Talking: Hm And then Us, upper southern US.
- 13:00I Hate Talking: I thought this was.
- 13:01I Hate Talking: Pennsylvania Dutch, maybe not.
- 13:03I Hate Talking: Basically the same thing, use in addressing two or more people.
- 13:07I Hate Talking: Well, upper southern, I guess, right?
- 13:10I Hate Talking: Isn't technically.
- 13:11I Hate Talking: Like Gettysburg and stuff like that, like where the line is.
- 13:18I Hate Talking: Mason-Dixie line or whatnot.
- 13:21I Hate Talking: I guess so.
- 13:23I Hate Talking: Maybe the American Heritage Dictionary is a little bit biased towards the South.
- 13:28I Hate Talking: Yeah.
- 13:29I Hate Talking: So now I'm searching if there's a word list for Pennsylvania Dutch for you all.
- 13:35I Hate Talking: Let's see if we can find it.
- 13:37I Hate Talking: No, it's not apparently in here.
- 13:40I Hate Talking: We'll go to the wise.
- 13:41I Hate Talking: Not finding it interesting.
- 13:44I Hate Talking: What are you looking like you're looking in the American heritage.
- 13:49I Hate Talking: No, I just use duck go and search PA Dutch -- for you -- all.
- 13:55I Hate Talking: We're not gonna have a good luck with that because Pennsylvania Dutch wouldn't have the internet, right?
- 14:01I Hate Talking: Maybe.
- 14:02I Hate Talking: Just kidding.
- 14:04I Hate Talking: But Amish aren't supposed to have the internet.
- 14:07I Hate Talking: Well, I thought they were allowed to have it in their little call booth.
- 14:11I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 14:12I Hate Talking: I think it depends on what sex they're part of, right?
- 14:15I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 14:16I Hate Talking: So, there you go.
- 14:19I Hate Talking: Perhaps some more questions than answers, but at least we have defined.
- 14:23I Hate Talking: You, y'all, all y'all.
- 14:26I Hate Talking: Yz The, thee, thou, lots of different particular descriptive articles -- or pronouns -- all for the same thing.
- 14:37I Hate Talking: No, they're not for the same thing, they're for different things, singular versus plural, I guess.
- 14:42I Hate Talking: They can all be singular and sometimes plural.
- 14:46I Hate Talking: Look at the letter Y.
- 14:48I Hate Talking: No, E is not ever singular.
- 14:50I Hate Talking: I don't think that y'all or all y'all would be singular either.
- 14:54I Hate Talking: That's always a group of people, 2 or more.
- 14:57I Hate Talking: Mm Yes.
- 15:01I Hate Talking: You guess, this is patently true.
- 15:05I Hate Talking: Ye y'all, all y'all yous.
- 15:08I Hate Talking: All greater than one.
- 15:10I Hate Talking: 2 or greater.
- 15:12I Hate Talking: You can't say to like one person, y'all, you would just say you.
- 15:16I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 15:18I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 15:20I Hate Talking: I think I don't have a problem with it.
- 15:22I Hate Talking: I think I would understand what they were getting at.
- 15:25I Hate Talking: But you're right, like, typically you wouldn't say it.
- 15:29I Hate Talking: I don't know.
- 15:30I Hate Talking: I don't think I would ever say it.
- 15:32I Hate Talking: I don't think I would ever use ye y'all or all y'all.
- 15:35I Hate Talking: OK, so sometimes plural, sometimes it's singular, and sometimes it's no.
- 15:41I Hate Talking: I'm maintaining that You, y'all, and all y'all are always plural.
- 15:47I Hate Talking: Wait, say that again?
- 15:49I Hate Talking: You, y'all, and all y'all are always plural.
- 15:53I Hate Talking: Y'all, y'all is always plural, -- multiple what -- you're saying, multiple people, -- 2 or -- more, I don't know.
- 16:02I Hate Talking: Well, that's what the American Heritage Dictionary says, so you're gonna argue with that, maybe.
- 16:07I Hate Talking: Or not.
- 16:08I Hate Talking: I'm not in a fighting mood, so it's OK.
- 16:12I Hate Talking: I'll let them say it.
- 16:13I Hate Talking: And then what's singular always?
- 16:16I Hate Talking: I don't think there is a singular or always that we use in modern English.
- 16:21I Hate Talking: The only thing that I'm aware of would be thee and thou.
- 16:24I Hate Talking: That is one specific person.
- 16:26I Hate Talking: OK, so thee and thou is always singular.
- 16:30I Hate Talking: Correct.
- 16:31I Hate Talking: OK And the rest of them can sway either way.
- 16:37I Hate Talking: We have to use our best judgment.
- 16:39I Hate Talking: No, what?
- 16:40I Hate Talking: -- What -- are you saying?
- 16:42I Hate Talking: I'm saying ye, y'all, and all y'all are always plural.
- 16:45I Hate Talking: -- I need -- like a whiteboard.
- 16:46I Hate Talking: You need your Venn diagram.
- 16:48I Hate Talking: Yes, can you make me one?
- 16:51I Hate Talking: So ye, but no.
- 16:53I Hate Talking: I don't need a Venn diagram cause you're saying some of them aren't either one.
- 16:58I Hate Talking: So I said then the rest of them could be singular or plural, and then you said no.
- 17:04I Hate Talking: No, that I'm saying that some of them are exclusively plural.
- 17:09I Hate Talking: The archaic ones are exclusively singular, and then.
- 17:13I Hate Talking: By itself, you could go either way, and then you would have to infer that by context.
- 17:18I Hate Talking: So you would make a circle with you.
- 17:20I Hate Talking: Just YO you in the middle.
- 17:23I Hate Talking: Yes, and I can infer that you're talking about just me and not me and the audience.
- 17:28I Hate Talking: From the way that you said that I would do this.
- 17:31I Hate Talking: And then you would Make a circle on the side, cutting into that, that would have thee and thou.
- 17:41I Hate Talking: The end that would be on the.
- 17:44I Hate Talking: Crescent shape.
- 17:46I Hate Talking: -- Do I actually need to draw the picture and -- then on the other maybe and then on the other side would be.
- 17:54I Hate Talking: All y'all Y'all and Another one.
- 18:01I Hate Talking: It's not even that late.
- 18:03I Hate Talking: Why is my brain not working well?
- 18:05I Hate Talking: So we have a full circle on the left and a full circle on the right, and they overlap.
- 18:13I Hate Talking: So on the left is the Singular With thee and thou you just fixed it.
- 18:23I Hate Talking: You did it.
- 18:23I Hate Talking: Oh man, what a cheater.
- 18:26I Hate Talking: I did fix it.
- 18:27I Hate Talking: -- I had mistakenly written ye in the left side ye -- in both circles.
- 18:32I Hate Talking: Now I fix it.
- 18:33I Hate Talking: For you to talk, stop talking so I could say something about that.
- 18:37I Hate Talking: OK, so we have less circle.
- 18:39I Hate Talking: Thee and thou singular on the right side, exclusively plural, ye y'all and all y'all, and then in the middle overlapping that can be either singular or plural is you, OK.
- 18:51I Hate Talking: Now it makes sense.
- 18:53I Hate Talking: Yeah, I can see that.
- 18:55I Hate Talking: If those are the only words we're talking about, I thought there were more words connected that we were discussing.
- 19:01I Hate Talking: Well, there was units in there, but I think we tabled that one cause maybe I was incorrect about that being Pennsylvania Dutch and it's Upper Southern, whatever that is.
- 19:12I Hate Talking: So there you go.
- 19:15I Hate Talking: Well, I'll have to draw a better copy of the Venn diagram, and then we can post that in the show notes.
- 19:19I Hate Talking: I'll post my original scribble.
- 19:23I Hate Talking: There you go.
- 19:24I Hate Talking: Or we can just have AI clean that up.
- 19:27I Hate Talking: The AI is not good at words and pictures.
- 19:29I Hate Talking: No, it's not.
- 19:30I Hate Talking: It's good at pictures or it's Less good at words Yeah, the words often, yeah, the words often look like a different language.
- 19:39I Hate Talking: All scribbly indeed.
- 19:42I Hate Talking: I, uh, for Christmas last year, made my nieces and nephews, uh, Christmas ornaments.
- 19:49I Hate Talking: And I used AI.
- 19:51I Hate Talking: To help me, and it wasn't until, like, wrapping them or, you know, like I was too far in that I realized that they misspelled one of their names, and I know I didn't do it, like, I spelled the name correctly, cause the other thing, cause it was double sided, so the one side was spelled correct, and then I added a picture to the other side.
- 20:14I Hate Talking: And then they changed the lettering.
- 20:17I Hate Talking: I just had to apologize.
- 20:19I Hate Talking: Indeed.
- 20:21I Hate Talking: So I guess before we wrap up the episode, we have to address one other word that we use every episode, and that is everyone.
- 20:28I Hate Talking: So is everyone, everyone?
- 20:30I Hate Talking: Oh.
- 20:31I Hate Talking: Yeah, I think so, yeah, you're right, cuz I.
- 20:35I Hate Talking: And we probably say that a lot.
- 20:37I Hate Talking: I know I always say it, it just ended up being.
- 20:39I Hate Talking: I said in the beginning, hi everyone.
- 20:42I Hate Talking: But I think everyone has to be everyone.
- 20:45I Hate Talking: Anybody within earshot of listening.
- 20:48I Hate Talking: So you're not greeting the entire world.
- 20:50I Hate Talking: You're just greeting anyone that's listening.
- 20:53I Hate Talking: I think so.
- 20:55I Hate Talking: And within earshot, so they could be like somebody's listening to this on a speaker and somebody happens to overhear it.
- 21:02I Hate Talking: You're you're greeting that person too.
- 21:04I Hate Talking: I'm saying hi to them too.
- 21:05I Hate Talking: I'm not saying hi to like the like no one listening.
- 21:09I Hate Talking: The nether, I think you mean the ether.
- 21:13I Hate Talking: Wait, another like ether, yeah, maybe.
- 21:17I Hate Talking: I think I'm in another portal.
- 21:20I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 21:22I Hate Talking: So the ether, yeah, so it's not just like into the.
- 21:26I Hate Talking: Great Dark blackness.
- 21:30I Hate Talking: I'm saying hi to people who can hear me.
- 21:34I Hate Talking: Or read it.
- 21:36I Hate Talking: If you can't, if you aren't hearing it, maybe you're reading the transcript.
- 21:39I Hate Talking: That's true, yeah, you're greeting people that are not listening, perhaps they're reading.
- 21:45I Hate Talking: That's very inclusive of you.
- 21:46I Hate Talking: Do you think you're saying, when you say everyone?
- 21:51I Hate Talking: I don't know if I use that specifically.
- 21:56I Hate Talking: To address people that we're talking to on the podcast.
- 21:59I Hate Talking: I say you, our listeners.
- 22:01I Hate Talking: It's like an inclusive group of people, so not the person that's overhearing this because they are not a listener, they're not engaged and taking part in.
- 22:10I Hate Talking: This shared experience.
- 22:12I Hate Talking: I think I'm really tired.
- 22:16I Hate Talking: Say that again.
- 22:17I Hate Talking: What?
- 22:18I Hate Talking: So you're not saying hi to.
- 22:21I Hate Talking: People listening.
- 22:23I Hate Talking: Yeah, you must be tired.
- 22:25I Hate Talking: I'm talking about the people that are overhearing the podcast on people that are actually listening to it on speaker.
- 22:30I Hate Talking: OK, so you only are talking, addressing people that are intentionally listening?
- 22:37I Hate Talking: Yes, the listeners.
- 22:38I Hate Talking: Hm But what if someone overhears and then they're like, hey, I wanna be part of the group too.
- 22:46I Hate Talking: Then they can become a listener and then all my previous greetings will apply to them.
- 22:51I Hate Talking: They have to subscribe first or something.
- 22:55I Hate Talking: -- Like and subscribe and -- then and then you'll address them.
- 22:59I Hate Talking: Yes.
- 23:00I Hate Talking: OK.
- 23:01I Hate Talking: I'm trying to remember back, I don't know if I really specifically address people on the podcast as an all-inclusive group.
- 23:08I Hate Talking: It's always you, our listeners, or let us know, yeah, like, you'll be like, let us know.
- 23:16I Hate Talking: I'm sure this is not like exclusively true.
- 23:19I Hate Talking: I'm sure there's a possibility that I've said everyone or Something of that nature, but The majority of the time I will refer to the people listening as You are a listener, and I even say you, and I think I sort of mean like the individual you in that.
- 23:38I Hate Talking: Like I'm talking to that listener, not like you are listeners as a whole, but you are a listener.
- 23:45I Hate Talking: But isn't it maybe even cause usually you are talking.
- 23:50I Hate Talking: As a directive Like you Like and subscribe or you message us or whatnot, like it's, it's an imperative.
- 24:02I Hate Talking: Yeah, there you go.
- 24:03I Hate Talking: And not a friendly greeting.
- 24:05I Hate Talking: Well, that's probably a difference between you and me.
- 24:08I Hate Talking: You're the friendly greeter and I am not.
- 24:10I Hate Talking: There you go, maybe that is the difference.
- 24:13I Hate Talking: Yeah, I mean, even our closing, I'm telling them an imperative statement.
- 24:18I Hate Talking: Yeah Interesting.
- 24:21I Hate Talking: I think that's very, yeah, very personality driven then I suppose so that I wanna engage in relational.
- 24:29I Hate Talking: Interactions where you're more uh structured or Work oriented Task oriented, task oriented.
- 24:39I Hate Talking: Yes, I'm so sorry.
- 24:41I Hate Talking: Why is my brain is so slow tonight.
- 24:44I Hate Talking: So all those tasks include liking, subscribing, sharing.
- 24:50I Hate Talking: And remembering I'm bad at that one, especially tonight.
- 24:55I Hate Talking: I suppose so.
- 24:56I Hate Talking: So we'll close with that imperative statement that we have now since concluded is an imperative statement.
- 25:02I Hate Talking: So, you, our listener must remember, because from your friends at I hate talking, until next time, remember, it is only through talking that we begin the journey to understanding.
