- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus, powered by Seahawks dot Com. Now here's your host.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Na's a chopee.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk Your Seattle Seahawks
- 0:16Speaker 2: super Bowl sixty Yeah champions Bump, Yes, sir.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Second time in team history.
- 0:20Speaker 2: It's been a little while me Bump haven't been able
- 0:22Speaker 2: to get together, but you know we had to chop
- 0:23Speaker 2: it out for this one last time.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Seahawks win the Super Bowl and Bump.
- 0:26Speaker 2: The last couple of weeks to me have just been naught,
- 0:28Speaker 2: super blur, going from when we were sitting here after
- 0:31Speaker 2: Fantasy Championship game, to Super Bowl Week, to everything that
- 0:35Speaker 2: went into that, going to Levi Stadium, home of the
- 0:37Speaker 2: forty nine ers, taking that thing on their field, all
- 0:39Speaker 2: everything that went into it.
- 0:40Speaker 3: What was your favorite part of Super Bowl Week? Man,
- 0:43Speaker 3: it was a lot. I was down there for about
- 0:45Speaker 3: a full week, you know what I mean, even did
- 0:47Speaker 3: my show on Monday, the falling Monday from there. But
- 0:48Speaker 3: I would say, man, my favorite thing about it is
- 0:53Speaker 3: honestly just being with the squad, being with you Big Ray, Paul, Dave,
- 0:57Speaker 3: b walt Ravee and oh see, I mean everybody, all
- 1:02Speaker 3: the people that we see on a daily because we
- 1:05Speaker 3: know what the grind is like for us, and we
- 1:07Speaker 3: just got to be there and witness it. And we knew,
- 1:09Speaker 3: we knew they were gonna win this ball game. We
- 1:11Speaker 3: knew we were gonna win it. It was just how
- 1:12Speaker 3: are they gonna win it? And when we're gonna be
- 1:14Speaker 3: able to celebrate? So I just being with y'all and
- 1:17Speaker 3: just watching the cocksit triple Zeros and watching these do celebrate. Yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Man, So real experience honestly for me because it's been
- 1:23Speaker 2: what it's been ten years since I've worked for the
- 1:26Speaker 2: team and for it to come through the way it
- 1:28Speaker 2: did in this moment in that stadium. Man, unreal. The
- 1:31Speaker 2: week was crazy. They're asking the players to do a
- 1:32Speaker 2: lot of things from the league standpoint. They got to
- 1:34Speaker 2: do an hour long media session Monday through Thursday. Everything
- 1:37Speaker 2: going on. But one of the things I'll take away
- 1:39Speaker 2: is each and every day when we were out there
- 1:41Speaker 2: and being around the team, staying at the team hotel,
- 1:44Speaker 2: it was like any other week. Honest to god, it
- 1:46Speaker 2: was like any other week we ever had. Guys were
- 1:49Speaker 2: there slat boxing, doing all the same things they normally do,
- 1:51Speaker 2: or shadow boxing, and they were so loose. I saw
- 1:54Speaker 2: the Patriots kind of look coming to that week and
- 1:55Speaker 2: it was just that's their team. But I just looking
- 1:57Speaker 2: at us, I was like, oh my goodness. And every
- 1:59Speaker 2: time I saw the d line, I'm like, this might
- 2:01Speaker 2: get ugly, Bump, this.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Could get ugly. But it was did get ugly for them.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And then Bump being a part of the paray too,
- 2:07Speaker 2: was once in a lifetime experience. Very blessed that the
- 2:09Speaker 2: Seahawks allowed us the broadcast scene to be on one
- 2:11Speaker 2: of those military vehicles.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Bump and it was Seattle came through.
- 2:14Speaker 3: I've never seen that many people in my life ever,
- 2:17Speaker 3: ever in my life.
- 2:17Speaker 4: Man.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I was fun. Twelve showed up. It was the longest
- 2:21Speaker 3: but quickest, like hour and a half ride, yeah, I've
- 2:24Speaker 3: had because when you're in it, it feels like it's
- 2:28Speaker 3: happening in slow motion, but then when it's done, it's like, dang.
- 2:30Speaker 3: I was quick, you know, because you don't want to end.
- 2:32Speaker 3: The celebration was just fun. Man.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Now, that was once in a lifetime. That's kind of
- 2:35Speaker 2: really what it sank in for me. From my work perspective,
- 2:37Speaker 2: it was kind of checked out, like we got to
- 2:38Speaker 2: sit there and enjoy it. So it was a dope thing.
- 2:40Speaker 4: Again.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Seahawks Super Bowl sixty champions. But let's get into kind
- 2:44Speaker 2: of what had happened. You know what happened, but a
- 2:45Speaker 2: little bit behind the numbers.
- 2:49Speaker 3: See what had happened was what had happened at first
- 2:52Speaker 3: was what had happened was.
- 2:54Speaker 2: On Hawk Talk obviously, like I said, but at this point,
- 2:57Speaker 2: y'all know what happened.
- 2:58Speaker 1: A couple weeks ago.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Seahawks went down there, dominating defense, physical, run game. They
- 3:02Speaker 2: got contributions from everybody on the field.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Bump.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Here are a couple things that stuck out to me immediately.
- 3:07Speaker 2: For one, this defensive unit had fifty four tackles, six sacks,
- 3:10Speaker 2: eight TFLs, eleven quarterback hits, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery,
- 3:14Speaker 2: two interceptions, one was returned for a touchdown. This was
- 3:17Speaker 2: a dominating defense. We knew the dark sid would show up,
- 3:20Speaker 2: and they did in a big way in Super Bowl.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Yeah, they did. Man, nice seeing Chinna get that of
- 3:24Speaker 3: that pick six to two. Man, he's been through a
- 3:26Speaker 3: lot here, man, with injury and all that stuff. So
- 3:28Speaker 3: that was good. Defense was on point. They had six sacks,
- 3:30Speaker 3: they led to two turnovers and set the offense up
- 3:32Speaker 3: for fourteen point seattles. Defense hit the ball carried behind
- 3:35Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage on fifty three percent of design
- 3:38Speaker 3: rushes according to next Gen, while generating fifty two point
- 3:41Speaker 3: eight percent pressure. Ray Pages drive chart from Super Bowl sixteen.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Not impressive, laughable.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I mean after that first drive where they had twenty
- 3:50Speaker 2: eight yards, but the next I mean, my goodness, four
- 3:53Speaker 2: plays six yards, punt, three plays five yards, punt, three
- 3:56Speaker 2: plays minus two punt, six plays, ten yard punt, one
- 4:00Speaker 2: yard and a half three yards seven three plays seven yards, punt,
- 4:04Speaker 2: three plays nine yards, punt, three plays, six punt. I
- 4:07Speaker 2: mean this on and on fumble interception. It was a
- 4:11Speaker 2: beat down. I'm low key, though I'm a little I was.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I was bummed that it ended the way it did
- 4:15Speaker 2: because they were so dominant. They could have had one
- 4:17Speaker 2: of the most not one of it would have been
- 4:19Speaker 2: the most dominant performance ever in the Super Bowl.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Uh huh. Yeah, they got some cheap ones at the end.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Big up to Hollands. Holland's made a big play going
- 4:25Speaker 3: across the middle and the scored a touchdown. We get that,
- 4:27Speaker 3: but then that last drive or second to last drive,
- 4:30Speaker 3: that sixty five yards they put together. You're playing cover
- 4:32Speaker 3: four quarters. You're not trying to You're not sending anybody.
- 4:35Speaker 3: It was just let's just make them cash the ball
- 4:37Speaker 3: in bounds and run the clock. So yeah, a little cheap,
- 4:39Speaker 3: but it's all good.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yeah, And just like overall though, you go, look at
- 4:43Speaker 2: this team won seventeen games, bump, are you kidding me?
- 4:45Speaker 2: Postseason included franchise racker for both regular season wins. In
- 4:48Speaker 2: the season, Seahawks also set a franchise record for eight
- 4:51Speaker 2: road wins fifteen and two.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Under coach mc McDonald.
- 4:54Speaker 3: That is lose in a row.
- 4:55Speaker 2: It's hard to think, bump back to the days when
- 4:58Speaker 2: you were playing.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Why you bring me into this.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'm just saying, come along with.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yeah, man, it's we used to go on the road
- 5:06Speaker 3: and just know we about to lose. It is a
- 5:08Speaker 3: different squad. They got ten consecutive wins to close the
- 5:11Speaker 3: season out. Well, I don't remember these guys losing. I
- 5:13Speaker 3: mean I remember because I look at the schedule. I
- 5:15Speaker 3: know when it happened, But I don't feel like it
- 5:17Speaker 3: feels like they haven't loss in such a long time.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Man.
- 5:18Speaker 3: The Seahws became the first Super Bowl champion to go
- 5:20Speaker 3: throughout the entire postseason without a turnover. Outscored its opponent
- 5:25Speaker 3: one o four to forty six, recording nine sacks and
- 5:27Speaker 3: half plus four turnover differential. I like the turnover deal
- 5:31Speaker 3: because that was the knock on Sam, right, he's got
- 5:33Speaker 3: to turn the football over?
- 5:35Speaker 2: When is he gonna do it? He took care to rock,
- 5:37Speaker 2: no question about it. I mean, he got to write
- 5:39Speaker 2: his story. He got to finish the story, which I
- 5:41Speaker 2: love for Sam. Obviously we're talking about him and what
- 5:43Speaker 2: he did in that Super Bowl game. But just coach
- 5:45Speaker 2: McDonald know, as far throwing love, I mean, the most
- 5:47Speaker 2: wins by a head coach under the age of forty
- 5:49Speaker 2: in a season including playoffs in NFL history with seventeen,
- 5:52Speaker 2: ty Jim Harborugh Steve Merricci for the most wins by
- 5:54Speaker 2: a head coach in the first two seasons with twenty seven,
- 5:57Speaker 2: and became the ninth head coach to win the Super
- 5:58Speaker 2: Bowl within the first two seeds since third youngest head
- 6:01Speaker 2: coach to winning Super Bowl. So coach Mike, I mean
- 6:03Speaker 2: it's hard to the bar is set so high, but
- 6:06Speaker 2: man for him, to do what they were able to
- 6:08Speaker 2: do in two years is unreal.
- 6:10Speaker 3: It is, man, it's uh like you said, he said
- 6:12Speaker 3: the bar high, and I'm I would say, let's see
- 6:14Speaker 3: what he does next, but let's just let's just chill
- 6:16Speaker 3: and enjoy this right right, right a bit. The Seahawk
- 6:18Speaker 3: Super Bowl sixty wins at an all time media record,
- 6:21Speaker 3: as one hundred and thirty seven point eight million viewers
- 6:24Speaker 3: watched in the second quarter of making it the highest
- 6:26Speaker 3: peak viewership in US TV history. The game average about
- 6:29Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty four point nine million viewers on NBC, Peacock, Telemundo,
- 6:33Speaker 3: NBC Sports Digital, and NFL Plus based on official Live
- 6:37Speaker 3: plus D same day Nielsen Big all any any metrics
- 6:42Speaker 3: to measure this thing. There were setting records, man, and
- 6:45Speaker 3: that was that's cool because you know a lot of
- 6:47Speaker 3: people say that this all, this Super Bowl is going
- 6:49Speaker 3: to be boring you or this and that why you
- 6:51Speaker 3: like defense was wrong, responding with defense offense sales. But
- 6:54Speaker 3: defense wins championships. We saw that.
- 6:55Speaker 2: No, absolutely, I think that's I just love it because
- 6:58Speaker 2: that many people got to see what me and you
- 6:59Speaker 2: seen all season. Going back to training Campboachias throughout the year,
- 7:02Speaker 2: they got to see what this team was about, and
- 7:04Speaker 2: they showed up in the biggest moment under the lights,
- 7:07Speaker 2: didn't matter at Levi Stadium, got that thing done. We've
- 7:10Speaker 2: learned a lot about this team, Bump, But what do
- 7:12Speaker 2: you think stood out the most to you when you
- 7:14Speaker 2: look back at this season as a whole. What's the
- 7:16Speaker 2: number one thing you think that's set out to you?
- 7:18Speaker 2: If you had to choose one.
- 7:19Speaker 3: One, that's a tough one, man, because you can go offense,
- 7:21Speaker 3: you know, we can go there, But I think I'm
- 7:23Speaker 3: gonna stick with the defense man that this is the
- 7:26Speaker 3: most dominant defense I've covered with my own eyes. Right. Obviously,
- 7:30Speaker 3: you've worked for the Hawks for eight years, do college football,
- 7:34Speaker 3: but just the cohesiveness of this defense and the explosiveness
- 7:38Speaker 3: is crazy, and you don't really appreciate it until it's
- 7:42Speaker 3: all said and done. Like in the moment you get it,
- 7:43Speaker 3: you look at the numbers, you see the players and
- 7:45Speaker 3: all that stuff, and you're saying, all right, this defense
- 7:47Speaker 3: is pretty good. But when it's all said and done,
- 7:49Speaker 3: you sit back and you look at just the work. Right,
- 7:51Speaker 3: you step back from the painting about ten feet you know,
- 7:54Speaker 3: I went to a museum. When I was out in
- 7:56Speaker 3: San Francisco, Mike Bennett invited us to a museum. And
- 7:59Speaker 3: you know, my my brain don't work that way. All
- 8:02Speaker 3: that looks cool, Yeah, but with the Seahawks defense, my
- 8:05Speaker 3: eyes work that way. I take ten steps back. I'm
- 8:07Speaker 3: looking at the painting and I'm like, that thing is beautiful.
- 8:10Speaker 3: This defense was great.
- 8:11Speaker 2: There's just so many pieces, so many individual performances, so
- 8:14Speaker 2: many guys that stepped up throughout the year. To me,
- 8:16Speaker 2: But again, it's the idea that Coach McDonald's able to
- 8:20Speaker 2: come in here with a message, with the way they
- 8:22Speaker 2: want things to get done, and for all those guys
- 8:24Speaker 2: to buy in a lot of people make a big
- 8:26Speaker 2: deal about whether you're here or not for OTA's in
- 8:28Speaker 2: the summer program. And I think you can still win
- 8:31Speaker 2: without going to for that matter, that doesn't exclude you.
- 8:33Speaker 2: But I think the fact that all these guys are
- 8:35Speaker 2: in here, bought in together starting in April of last year,
- 8:38Speaker 2: I don't think there's a chance in hell that they
- 8:40Speaker 2: win the Super Bowl without that from start to finish.
- 8:42Speaker 2: To have all those guys, the DeMarcus Lowrence of the world,
- 8:44Speaker 2: Leonard Williams, all these people who've done it on a
- 8:46Speaker 2: big level, Ernest Jones, Cooper Cup, Super Bowl champions, to
- 8:49Speaker 2: do it on this level together and for everyone to
- 8:52Speaker 2: be bought in the entire season. I think that the
- 8:54Speaker 2: results showed out and it's cool to see what when
- 8:57Speaker 2: you have a vision and it comes to life.
- 8:58Speaker 1: When it can actually happen and just two short years,
- 9:00Speaker 1: so pretty damn cool.
- 9:02Speaker 2: But let's get into it from Super Bowl sixty specifically,
- 9:05Speaker 2: if I could speak, let's get into some playmakers.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Talk.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Playmakers told him what time holy he was the Super
- 9:19Speaker 1: Bowl MVP.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Ken Walker twenty seven carries one hundred and thirty five yards,
- 9:24Speaker 2: two receptions of twenty six yards, first running back to
- 9:26Speaker 2: win that award in twenty eight years. Bump and I
- 9:30Speaker 2: don't want to talk about the future or anything like that. Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 9:35Speaker 2: seeing again, we want to talk about looking at this
- 9:37Speaker 2: whole thing, taking ten steps back. We talked at nauseum
- 9:42Speaker 2: about the Seahawks run game from last year, this year,
- 9:45Speaker 2: even in.
- 9:45Speaker 1: The beginning of this year.
- 9:46Speaker 2: There are times where people are like, man, ken Walker
- 9:48Speaker 2: shouldn't be here, the Seahawks should trade him. I don't
- 9:50Speaker 2: know if he can work in this system. Blah blah blah,
- 9:53Speaker 2: and then it was back and forth. One week of
- 9:55Speaker 2: sharp ning, one week was Ken Walker. After all that
- 9:58Speaker 2: happened to finish the season the way those guys did,
- 10:01Speaker 2: and for Ken to do it in that game.
- 10:02Speaker 3: So happy for the guy. Yeah, man, he had a
- 10:05Speaker 3: I mean it was only right that he finished the
- 10:07Speaker 3: season way that he did because in the playoffs and
- 10:09Speaker 3: then a couple of games three games before the playoffs,
- 10:12Speaker 3: he was finding his stride. He was finding his groove, man,
- 10:15Speaker 3: And the run of the year, right, I don't care
- 10:17Speaker 3: about the other longest runs of the year by other players.
- 10:22Speaker 3: When he broke the ankles of that Rams linebacker in
- 10:24Speaker 3: the A game, that's when I said to myself, Oh,
- 10:29Speaker 3: he's feeling there right now. You don't make that move
- 10:30Speaker 3: if you're not feeling yourself in and understanding what's going on.
- 10:33Speaker 3: So yes, the run game took this offense to another
- 10:36Speaker 3: level and it helped this man ball out. Sam Darnold
- 10:39Speaker 3: was nineteen to thirty eight and two yards in one
- 10:41Speaker 3: touchdown in the Super Bowl. He made some big plays,
- 10:44Speaker 3: he avoided some sacks. My favorite, my favorite player of him,
- 10:47Speaker 3: I wasn't even the pass is when he took it.
- 10:48Speaker 3: He ran it. Made a guy miss picked up the
- 10:49Speaker 3: first downs, like be responsible with the football man. So
- 10:53Speaker 3: he did a lot of good stuff. Man, if he
- 10:56Speaker 3: makes two throws to jaysm Man, we're probably talking about
- 10:58Speaker 3: him being the MVP. Jason was wide open over room
- 11:00Speaker 3: a little bit. But he's tied Brett fav and Patrick
- 11:02Speaker 3: Mahomes for fourth place for the most wins and consecutive
- 11:05Speaker 3: seasons including playoffs with thirty one. He became the fourth
- 11:08Speaker 3: quarterback ever to win the Super Bowl in his first
- 11:11Speaker 3: season with the team and over three playoff games with
- 11:14Speaker 3: Sam andya three ozho, you have joined to twenty four
- 11:16Speaker 3: passing years, five touchdowns, zero interceptions, passerani at one to
- 11:19Speaker 3: four point two. Sam, talk yo stuff, you did that.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Monkey's off your back. Happy for that, dude, No love.
- 11:26Speaker 2: He got to go to Disneyland, got to do all
- 11:28Speaker 2: the things after. He is just such a better man
- 11:30Speaker 2: than I am, because there's no way I could be
- 11:33Speaker 2: that noble Still, at least by the Super Bowl celebration,
- 11:37Speaker 2: I've been like, all right, I'm gonna start calling people
- 11:39Speaker 2: out by name you didn't know. But Sam, that's just
- 11:42Speaker 2: who he is, and that's why the Seahows are there,
- 11:43Speaker 2: so I love it for that man. And then Cooper
- 11:46Speaker 2: Cup six reception sixty one yards led the seahawkstin receiving,
- 11:49Speaker 2: became the first player in the NFL history lead two
- 11:51Speaker 2: franchises in receiving yards in the Super Bowl.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I thought that part was cool.
- 11:56Speaker 2: His leadership, his everything about Cooper Cup that was not
- 11:59Speaker 2: in the box score and the numbers beeen the box
- 12:01Speaker 2: scar could he played with the offensive player of the
- 12:04Speaker 2: year and Jason and he bought out all year.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I just love the leadership we brought.
- 12:07Speaker 2: We'll talk about some of the intangibles when we get
- 12:10Speaker 2: into our film breakdown here in a second, but.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Love what we saw from Cooper Cup.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Felt like he was discarded from the Rams after a phenomenal,
- 12:16Speaker 2: potentially all fame career. There comes to Seattle first year,
- 12:19Speaker 2: gets it done.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Love to see it.
- 12:20Speaker 3: It's just a common presence out there. It's super calm, right,
- 12:23Speaker 3: nothing never rattled. And we're going to talk about him
- 12:25Speaker 3: being calm and out rattled here in a little bit.
- 12:27Speaker 3: AJ Barner Ford reception fifty four yards, one touchdown. The
- 12:31Speaker 3: touchdown almost never happened, right, Cooper Cup heard the play
- 12:34Speaker 3: differently or wrong in the huddle and he runs the
- 12:36Speaker 3: wrong route. Had to adjust last minute. We're going to
- 12:38Speaker 3: break that play down. But AJ has stepped into his
- 12:41Speaker 3: own man. He has one probably the biggest personality on
- 12:45Speaker 3: this team. If you don't know about AJ, yeah, just
- 12:47Speaker 3: google him. Watch him at the parade. My man has
- 12:50Speaker 3: this confidence about him that I think this team needs,
- 12:52Speaker 3: and I think he could be one of the best
- 12:55Speaker 3: tight ends in the game. Now we're just gonna get unlocked.
- 12:57Speaker 3: You got a new tight end. Excuse me. Oh see
- 12:59Speaker 3: here Flurry who was a tight ends guy. Maybe he
- 13:01Speaker 3: can unlock him as well. But Aj, it's been fun
- 13:04Speaker 3: watching him really embrace his role in this team. He
- 13:09Speaker 3: does a dirty work. He's a good blocker, he got hands,
- 13:11Speaker 3: he can catch the rock, and he's like kind of
- 13:13Speaker 3: the mouthpiece on offense too. He will talk to you
- 13:15Speaker 3: and let you know what's going on.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, he's kind of heart and soul. I mean, I
- 13:17Speaker 2: love what we saw obviously, his celebration in the parade.
- 13:19Speaker 2: He's got his fur cut up there, his barnyard, the
- 13:22Speaker 2: run and his dance afterwards. All the things that we
- 13:24Speaker 2: saw from AJ. And he's just a dog And I
- 13:27Speaker 2: didn't see it coming. I knew he was a good
- 13:29Speaker 2: football player, but to get to where he's at, he's
- 13:31Speaker 2: going to be, as you said, one of the best
- 13:33Speaker 2: tight ends in the game for a long time. Love
- 13:35Speaker 2: what we saw from aj Barner been defensively. Derek Hall
- 13:38Speaker 2: two sacks, two tackles, two TFLs, two quarterback hits, a
- 13:41Speaker 2: force fumble. He could have been the MVP if things
- 13:43Speaker 2: flipped a little bit differently. He played that well. Byer
- 13:46Speaker 2: Murphy two tackles, two sacks, two TFLs, two QB hits.
- 13:49Speaker 2: This dark side defense at front seven was relentless, and.
- 13:52Speaker 3: This dude could have been MVP himself. And Spoon four tackles,
- 13:56Speaker 3: one sack, one TfL, three quarterback hits. He was everywhere.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Tendawels got to pass defending one QB hit, an interception,
- 14:02Speaker 3: return to the house baby forty forty five yards. And
- 14:05Speaker 3: then Ernest Jones Man. Ernest is the youngest old man
- 14:10Speaker 3: I've ever been in my life. His soul is of
- 14:12Speaker 3: a forty five year OWD, but his body is of
- 14:14Speaker 3: a twenty six year old. He had eleven tackles, ten solo,
- 14:17Speaker 3: one TfL. Ernest with his second ring, I.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Mean so many guys played roles on this team to
- 14:23Speaker 2: get them where they got to winning the Super Bowl,
- 14:26Speaker 2: and Bump. We're gonna get into our new offensive coordinator
- 14:29Speaker 2: a couple of other things before we get out of this podcast.
- 14:31Speaker 1: But we could not leave you hanging here.
- 14:33Speaker 2: One last film breakdown of some of the biggest plays
- 14:36Speaker 2: from Super Bowl six. He will start with Sam Darnold
- 14:39Speaker 2: finding a J Barner for that sixteen yard touchdown.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Alani in the backfield.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Now play fake to him. Sam stops little strokes.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Gott a man wide open touchdown. Shay Hawks and his
- 14:51Speaker 4: ay Jay Barner. He could not wait to get out
- 14:56Speaker 4: of that hotel talk to him yesterday. He said, I
- 14:59Speaker 4: gotta go somebody, HEYJ, how about catching a touchdown too?
- 15:03Speaker 4: He does from sixteen out his fourth Hey J. Barner
- 15:10Speaker 4: on a perfect pass.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Darnold.
- 15:12Speaker 4: We have seen him throw that before everybody comes to
- 15:15Speaker 4: the left side. Barner leaks out into the right side.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Four catches, fifty four yards now and a touchdown.
- 15:23Speaker 3: All right, So typically I leave this thing off, but
- 15:25Speaker 3: you got some inside on this, so you go ahead
- 15:28Speaker 3: and do your thing with this one.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Okay. So Cooper cup was sitting in this exact chair.
- 15:33Speaker 2: He joined the New Heights podcast right after the Seahawks
- 15:36Speaker 2: won the Super Bowl, and he had a little bit
- 15:37Speaker 2: of intel on this play.
- 15:38Speaker 1: It looks like a normal play. It worked.
- 15:40Speaker 2: AJ Barner runs a little corner touchdown, but apparently there's
- 15:43Speaker 2: an issue with the wristband. The formation was backwards for
- 15:46Speaker 2: what the play call was. So that's why Shaheed and
- 15:49Speaker 2: Cooper Cup start on the same side. Chaheat has some
- 15:51Speaker 2: motion to the other side and on the fly, you
- 15:53Speaker 2: want to talk about presence of mind, Cooper Cup saw
- 15:56Speaker 2: that Aj barn was gonna run a route right into him.
- 16:00Speaker 2: On the fly, he changed it up. He went from
- 16:02Speaker 2: running a backside basic to a post in order to
- 16:06Speaker 2: not run straight into Aj Barner cleans it up. Mind you,
- 16:09Speaker 2: jsn's on the sideline and concussion protocol that might have
- 16:12Speaker 2: played a role into all this, but.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Bump your receiver to clean that up on the fly.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It's unreal. That is unreal presence of mind from number
- 16:21Speaker 1: ten Cooper Cup.
- 16:22Speaker 3: It's impressive, man, because route concepts are all about spacing,
- 16:26Speaker 3: and he felt the spacing was off all right, So
- 16:28Speaker 3: I know in his mind he goes, I know what
- 16:30Speaker 3: Aj is gonna do. I'm just gonna take my guy
- 16:33Speaker 3: the complete other direction to make sure he's good to go.
- 16:36Speaker 3: What I like about this concept right here too. I
- 16:40Speaker 3: saw the Rams do it as well. Like typically when
- 16:42Speaker 3: you motion your tight end, you want to get him
- 16:44Speaker 3: outside the furthest guy in the line of scrimmage. They
- 16:46Speaker 3: got these guys releasing up that seed gap now because
- 16:48Speaker 3: there's a tight end there. I saw the Rams do it.
- 16:50Speaker 3: I also saw the Niners do it as well. This
- 16:52Speaker 3: is stresses out of defense. It looks like these guys
- 16:55Speaker 3: are in like a cover three. I want to say,
- 16:57Speaker 3: maybe manneda backside zone on one side, but it just
- 17:00Speaker 3: confuses the defense. You see a back or flow with
- 17:03Speaker 3: the running back notices as the plays and he's trying
- 17:04Speaker 3: to drop back into the flap and it's just too late. Man.
- 17:07Speaker 3: So what's crazy too is the scissors concept. And my
- 17:10Speaker 3: option is exactly what those two did, like one over
- 17:13Speaker 3: the top, one underneath. So when you said, why sissors,
- 17:17Speaker 3: like what my offense, we would call what they did
- 17:19Speaker 3: scissors anyway, But no, man, this is this is players
- 17:24Speaker 3: making the coaches right. And sometimes you're gonna have to
- 17:27Speaker 3: need players to make you right. You're gonna call them wrong.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Play something's gonna be jacked up. Count on your vest
- 17:31Speaker 3: to make you right. That's what happened here.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Well, you know this more than anyone in an NFL playbook.
- 17:35Speaker 2: How easy it would it be to accidentally tag one
- 17:37Speaker 2: extra thing or the wrong thing or back order or
- 17:40Speaker 2: someone comes out. He doesn't usually run it from this side,
- 17:43Speaker 2: just a presence of mind. I love it from that.
- 17:44Speaker 2: And you mentioned AJ Barner just getting through the mess,
- 17:47Speaker 2: because a lot of times too, you get caught up,
- 17:48Speaker 2: you get grabbed, you get tripped up, you don't get
- 17:50Speaker 2: to where you're supposed to go. Great protection as well,
- 17:53Speaker 2: Sam had late pressure, got some makes a great player,
- 17:56Speaker 2: stays in there, flings it down to AJ Barner for
- 17:58Speaker 2: a touchdown in the Super Bowl. All right, the next
- 18:02Speaker 2: player we're gonna look at this is Drake Meghan hit
- 18:05Speaker 2: by Devin Witherspoon, popping in a new chennan Nuosu running
- 18:08Speaker 2: it back for a touchdown.
- 18:10Speaker 3: First and ten at the Seattle forty four.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Here comes the blitz.
- 18:13Speaker 4: May Hennessy tries to throw ball, comes out going the
- 18:16Speaker 4: other way with it turning up field.
- 18:19Speaker 3: It's Chennadeo suit.
- 18:21Speaker 4: And he scores touchdown Sahawks, but Seahawks defense.
- 18:29Speaker 3: They have done it again.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Drake May tried to throw, he gets hammered. Nuosu comes
- 18:36Speaker 4: up with the ball. He was my pick for defensive
- 18:40Speaker 4: MVP in this game, and he takes that ball the distance.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Man. I love this. This is this is where Leo
- 18:50Speaker 3: comes into play, and no one really notices it right here,
- 18:53Speaker 3: all right. So Leo's lined up in that that one
- 18:55Speaker 3: tech in between the center and your guard, and he's
- 18:58Speaker 3: just landing across the formation, right, He's gonna slant across
- 19:01Speaker 3: the center's face. He's gonna pull that guard with him,
- 19:03Speaker 3: all right. So what that does is it allows one
- 19:05Speaker 3: on one matchups. You have Jenna and Woldsu rushing off
- 19:07Speaker 3: the edge. He's gonna take care of the tackle, and
- 19:09Speaker 3: you have Ernest Jones blitzing up the B gap. He's
- 19:13Speaker 3: gonna take care of the running back. If they were
- 19:15Speaker 3: to do this, if they were to do this correctly, right,
- 19:17Speaker 3: if if that guard didn't lose or didn't have so
- 19:20Speaker 3: much attention on on Leo, he would have slaid. He
- 19:23Speaker 3: would have helped out over there and would have clogged
- 19:25Speaker 3: up the blitzing lane that Witherspoon has going up the
- 19:28Speaker 3: sea gap. So it's just you're overwhelming, right, you're pulling
- 19:30Speaker 3: guys with you with Leonard, and then you're overwhelming the
- 19:33Speaker 3: left side when it comes to numbers. So Ernest Jones
- 19:35Speaker 3: takes care of the running back, which she didn't, takes
- 19:37Speaker 3: care of the tackle. You got Leo who pulls the
- 19:39Speaker 3: guard and the center with them. Now, Spoon just being
- 19:42Speaker 3: the little firecracker that he is, gets to the quarterback,
- 19:45Speaker 3: hits him as he throws. China has a gift. Congratulations,
- 19:50Speaker 3: you scored a touchdown on the Super Bowl.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Yeah, every you want to talk about overwhelming one side
- 19:54Speaker 2: because mom, they have enough guys to block this. Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 2: Seahawks bring five, they have six in protection. I love
- 19:59Speaker 2: Witherspoon when you blitz from depth like that. And just
- 20:01Speaker 2: to look at the timing, I mean one two boom
- 20:03Speaker 2: and he's running full speed now and obviously running back
- 20:06Speaker 2: takes certain stones like you said, but they just overwhelmed
- 20:08Speaker 2: that that gap and it's a wrap and honestly, Chenna
- 20:12Speaker 2: a great rush.
- 20:14Speaker 1: But as as a non skill.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Guy, I mean, I get technically he's a linebacker in
- 20:18Speaker 2: that system, but someone's normally handed in the ground. Yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 2: pretty athletic play because you know if you got brick hands,
- 20:23Speaker 2: that ball pops up, you bat it around, maybe eventually
- 20:26Speaker 2: catch it, you fall down. But for him to make
- 20:28Speaker 2: it in stride, it was such a clean play bump
- 20:30Speaker 2: from our broadcast booth me and you didn't even know
- 20:32Speaker 2: it was intercepting.
- 20:33Speaker 3: No, that was a fumble.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Looked like a fumble because of whatever happened, And honestly,
- 20:36Speaker 2: that could have also tilted the MVP vote. If that
- 20:38Speaker 2: goes down as a forced fumble for Witherspoon, that might
- 20:42Speaker 2: change what the voting was. But anyway, hell will play
- 20:44Speaker 2: and it's teach tape. That's how you blitz, that's how
- 20:46Speaker 2: you hit the arm. Everyone did what they're supposed to do.
- 20:48Speaker 2: You overwhelm it. And Coach McDonald talked about after the
- 20:51Speaker 2: game a lot of times it looked to the naked
- 20:53Speaker 2: eye like those were all the same blitzes.
- 20:55Speaker 1: They weren't.
- 20:56Speaker 2: He said he only called a couple those more than once,
- 20:58Speaker 2: so they were just again exotic. Both guards eventually on
- 21:01Speaker 2: that play didn't block anybody.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Yep.
- 21:03Speaker 2: For the most of the game they didn't know who
- 21:05Speaker 2: was rushing where to protect. And that's coach McDonald the genius.
- 21:09Speaker 2: As we've always known him to be getting it done
- 21:12Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl. Love to see that. But we
- 21:15Speaker 2: do have some news where we have had some news recently.
- 21:17Speaker 2: The Seahawks do have a new offensive coordinator. What's on tap?
- 21:21Speaker 1: What's on tap? Clint Kubiak. Shout out to Clint Kubiak.
- 21:26Speaker 2: He did his thing one year in Seattle, had a
- 21:28Speaker 2: hell of an offense, one of the best ones in
- 21:30Speaker 2: team history, helped the Seahawks win a Super Bowl. Now
- 21:32Speaker 2: he's down there coaching the Las Vegas Raiders, so best
- 21:35Speaker 2: of luck to him there. Entering Brian Fleury, he comes
- 21:38Speaker 2: from San Francisco, where he held the title of run
- 21:40Speaker 2: game coordinator as well as tight ends coach. Flury has
- 21:43Speaker 2: an overlap though with Kubiak, because he coached with Kubiak
- 21:46Speaker 2: as well as Sam Donald in San Francisco. Or Tink
- 21:48Speaker 2: will be huge. You'd imagine you're gonna try to do
- 21:49Speaker 2: some of those same things.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Fleury.
- 21:51Speaker 2: A little background on him, former quarterback from University of
- 21:53Speaker 2: Maryland in Townsend. Began his coaching career as a grat
- 21:56Speaker 2: assistant at Maryland and three after a decade in the
- 21:59Speaker 2: college ranks, he began his NFL coaching Career's quality control
- 22:02Speaker 2: with the Bills twenty thirteen, and he brings a diverse background,
- 22:05Speaker 2: having coach linebackers outside linebackers with the Browns before cooming
- 22:09Speaker 2: in defensive quality control and then switching the offense.
- 22:12Speaker 1: But doing that in a National Football League is unreal
- 22:15Speaker 1: to me.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Yeah, that's great, and I think that's probably what gave
- 22:18Speaker 3: him the edge over the other candidates. Honestly, it's like, look,
- 22:21Speaker 3: I know defense, I played defense, I coached defense, and
- 22:24Speaker 3: now I'm over here on the offensive side. I can
- 22:26Speaker 3: tell my guys exactly what the defense is trying to do,
- 22:28Speaker 3: what they're trying to take away. I think offensive coaches
- 22:30Speaker 3: can do it too, but a bit different when you've
- 22:32Speaker 3: coached on that side of the football. And he's a
- 22:34Speaker 3: run game coordinator. We know Mike wants to run the football,
- 22:38Speaker 3: and he worked with the tight ends. We know Mike
- 22:40Speaker 3: wants to get the tight ends involved. So it was like,
- 22:42Speaker 3: at first, I was like, who is this guy, Brian Flurry?
- 22:45Speaker 3: And then I looked him up resume and on paper,
- 22:48Speaker 3: I go, yeah, that makes sense for coach mcdonaldson.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Yeah, no question about it.
- 22:52Speaker 2: In his introductory press conference last week, he described what
- 22:54Speaker 2: he wants this offense to look like.
- 22:57Speaker 5: It looks very similar to the one that just won
- 22:58Speaker 5: the Super Bowl. It's more about how you play than
- 23:01Speaker 5: what you actually are doing Schematically. We're gonna be fast
- 23:04Speaker 5: and violent and aggressive in every way that we possibly
- 23:06Speaker 5: can put pressure on defenses, both schematically and from a
- 23:09Speaker 5: tempo standpoint, and just always have that type of mindset.
- 23:14Speaker 2: But you had the chance to talk with coach right
- 23:16Speaker 2: after his press conference. He hopped on with you and
- 23:18Speaker 2: Bump and Stacey Show. What were your impressures of him
- 23:21Speaker 2: when you talk to him.
- 23:21Speaker 3: I liked him. Man say he's gonna be violent, Well, ball,
- 23:25Speaker 3: he's violent. Yes, he must be violent. And he comes
- 23:28Speaker 3: from a family of teachers too. He says he loves
- 23:31Speaker 3: to teach, and I think that's the main thing. I
- 23:33Speaker 3: think that's one of the strengths of this coaches staff
- 23:35Speaker 3: in general, is that everybody here is a teacher. I
- 23:38Speaker 3: love that he played both sides of the football. We
- 23:40Speaker 3: can talk defense, we can talk offense. I'ma love that
- 23:43Speaker 3: he understands the box. On another level, I think that
- 23:45Speaker 3: I always encourage people learn as much as you can
- 23:47Speaker 3: about the box. If you learn the box, the game's
- 23:49Speaker 3: gonna just look completely different for you, and he seems
- 23:52Speaker 3: like a confident leader. I know people are like, well,
- 23:54Speaker 3: he's never done this before. All right, Well he's been
- 23:57Speaker 3: in San Francisco for seven years under Shanahan. He's gonna learn.
- 24:01Speaker 3: He's been on the head said, he understands. Will there
- 24:03Speaker 3: be some bumps in the road. Of course, there's bumps
- 24:05Speaker 3: in the road for guys who've done this for a
- 24:06Speaker 3: decade plus. So now I'm excited, man. I think that
- 24:09Speaker 3: it's always nice when we can pull off from the
- 24:10Speaker 3: ops too, you know, Fortnight take a run game coordinated
- 24:13Speaker 3: to give an opportunity here. But no, he has a plan.
- 24:16Speaker 3: He's not going to debate too far from what we
- 24:18Speaker 3: did last year. He is gonna make it his own.
- 24:20Speaker 3: But I think the proof is into putting like this
- 24:22Speaker 3: offense works and now he just got to sprinkle his
- 24:24Speaker 3: own little little sauce on there. Yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 2: No, I love continuity, like you said, establishing what we
- 24:29Speaker 2: have ever gotten going and when people want to talk
- 24:31Speaker 2: he hasn't done it before.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Mike McDonald wasn't a head coach before either. Yeah, two
- 24:35Speaker 1: years later he's a super Bowl champion.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I mean, I'm confident, And here's bum honestly, when that
- 24:40Speaker 2: all I need to know are these things. For one,
- 24:44Speaker 2: I trust in John Schneider and Mike MacDonald. Anything that
- 24:48Speaker 2: they want to do, I'm gonna get on board with. Yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 2: trust exactly. Oh and they didn't they did not miss.
- 24:55Speaker 2: They did not miss. And beyond that, if Mike McDonald's
- 24:58Speaker 2: bringing you in here, three things are true.
- 25:01Speaker 1: You love ball, you know ball, and you can teach ball.
- 25:05Speaker 2: He talks about all the time about being a force multiplier,
- 25:07Speaker 2: being a teacher, and that's what he cares about. So
- 25:10Speaker 2: if you're hired on this staff, you those three things
- 25:12Speaker 2: are true about you, You're gonna.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Be just fine.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Yep, it's gonna be good.
- 25:15Speaker 2: You're gonna be just fine. Looking ahead, though, bump the
- 25:17Speaker 2: rest of the off season. The combine actually started today.
- 25:20Speaker 2: It's gonna go through March second workouts do and begin
- 25:22Speaker 2: till Thursday. You got free agency coming out March eleventh.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Then you have to phase one of the off season.
- 25:27Speaker 2: NFL Draft April twenty third through twenty six. Rookie Mini
- 25:31Speaker 2: Camp usually the next weekend OTA's mandatory Mini camp mid June,
- 25:35Speaker 2: players have time off and before you know it, back
- 25:38Speaker 2: in July for training camp. Which is gonna be crazy about.
- 25:41Speaker 2: This offseason is already going by fast because this time
- 25:43Speaker 2: last year, the Seahaws were done for over a month.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Wow, it well over a month.
- 25:47Speaker 1: Right now, you have two weeks off, you're at the Combine.
- 25:49Speaker 2: It's gonna go crazy and you're gonna have to start
- 25:52Speaker 2: camp a little bit earlier than you normally. Do you
- 25:54Speaker 2: know why, because you're gonna kick off the season on
- 25:56Speaker 2: a Thursday night. I know there's some talk about some
- 25:58Speaker 2: other games, but either way, you're gonna one of those
- 26:00Speaker 2: early games.
- 26:01Speaker 1: So like future me, he's gonna be Damn. We're gonna
- 26:03Speaker 1: lose about four days of summer.
- 26:04Speaker 2: But it's all good. The Seahawks will be playing bump
- 26:07Speaker 2: and I'm excited. I mean, there's obviously free agents I
- 26:09Speaker 2: need to be signing things you need to be done.
- 26:11Speaker 2: But for me, because I'm not John Schneider or my no,
- 26:14Speaker 2: I can just bask in this glory. Yeah, basking it, baby,
- 26:17Speaker 2: Come on, it's been a bump. It's been a fun year. Obviously,
- 26:20Speaker 2: we've been doing this thing. It's the first year we've
- 26:21Speaker 2: been able to cover team this successful. But it's been fun.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I appreciate everyone who is listening or watch our show
- 26:27Speaker 2: all season long. It's been a really fun. We've had
- 26:30Speaker 2: an amazing time. Big shout out to production Laife Lightingting.
- 26:36Speaker 2: He is one of the best to do it. He
- 26:38Speaker 2: edits his podcast every single week. He does the film breakdowns.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I appreciate him. He does Insiders, does a lot of
- 26:44Speaker 2: things for this Operation Bumps game preview. So shout out Lafe,
- 26:47Speaker 2: you've been killing all season long.
- 26:48Speaker 3: May can me look good? Brother MS Maybe some files.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Loving crispy though, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, No, anyway,
- 26:56Speaker 2: it's been really fun. Appreciate y'all listening. We will probably
- 26:58Speaker 2: join jump back in periodic throughout the off season.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Your boy's got some.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Leave, he's gonna be taking that and we'll be back
- 27:03Speaker 2: here getting ready for the draft. Seahawks, Super Bowl sixty champions, Lovett,
- 27:08Speaker 2: Seattle and Joy.
- 27:09Speaker 1: We'll be with you next time.
