- Lucas: Velkommen tilbake, everyone, to episode 99 of Learn Norwegian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Episode 99, that's a big one. We're almost at a hundred. Lucas: Right? It's amazing. So today, we're going to talk about furniture. Things you have in your home. Luna: Ooh, like a table and chairs? I've been wanting to describe my apartment in Norwegian. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with a very common word: et bord. A table. Lucas: Et bord. Luna: Et bord. That sounds nice. Bord. Lucas: Good. And you can say 'Dette er et bord' — this is a table. Lucas: Dette er et bord. Luna: Dette er et bord. So 'dette' means 'this'? Lucas: Yes. Dette er et bord. Let's try that together. Lucas: Dette er et bord. Luna: Dette er et bord. I can picture my kitchen table now. Lucas: Perfect. Next, a chair is en stol. Lucas: En stol. Luna: En stol. Stol. Like 'stool' in English, almost. Lucas: Exactly. And to say 'I sit on a chair' you say 'Jeg sitter på en stol.' But let's start simpler. 'This is a chair' — Dette er en stol. Lucas: Dette er en stol. Luna: Dette er en stol. Nice. Lucas: Now, let's add a bed. En seng. Lucas: En seng. Luna: En seng. That sounds cozy. Lucas: Dette er en seng. Luna: Dette er en seng. I'm going to use that tonight. Lucas: And finally, a sofa. En sofa. Lucas: En sofa. Luna: En sofa. That's the same as English, just with an 'en' in front. Lucas: Right. Dette er en sofa. Luna: Dette er en sofa. So we have bord, stol, seng, sofa. Lucas: You got it. Now, let's practice a little scene. Imagine you're showing a friend your room. Lucas: You point to your bed and say: Dette er en seng. Luna: Dette er en seng. Lucas: Then to your sofa: Dette er en sofa. Luna: Dette er en sofa. And maybe I add 'og dette er en stol'? Lucas: Exactly! Og dette er en stol. You're a natural. Luna: Thanks. You know, I've been using Fexingo to practice, and it's really helping me remember words like these. Lucas: That's great to hear. And you know what? We keep these episodes free and ad-free because we believe in making language learning accessible. Luna: Yeah, no annoying ads interrupting our conversations. If that matters to you, you can support the show at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Every little bit helps us keep going. But now, back to our furniture. Let's try a longer sentence: 'I sit on the chair.' In Norwegian, 'Jeg sitter på stolen.' Lucas: Jeg sitter på stolen. Luna: Wait, why 'stolen' and not 'en stol'? Lucas: Good question. When you say 'the chair', it becomes 'stolen'. So 'på stolen' means 'on the chair'. Lucas: Jeg sitter på stolen. Luna: Jeg sitter på stolen. So 'en stol' becomes 'stolen' for 'the chair'. Lucas: Exactly. Similarly, 'the table' is 'bordet', 'the bed' is 'sengen', 'the sofa' is 'sofaen'. Lucas: Let's practice: Dette er bordet. Luna: Dette er bordet. Lucas: Dette er sengen. Luna: Dette er sengen. Lucas: Dette er sofaen. Luna: Dette er sofaen. Lucas: Great. Now, can you say 'I sit on the sofa'? Luna: Jeg sitter på sofaen. Lucas: Perfect. And 'I sit on the chair'? Luna: Jeg sitter på stolen. Lucas: Excellent. You're doing so well. Let's do a quick review. What's a table? Luna: Et bord. Lucas: A chair? Luna: En stol. Lucas: A bed? Luna: En seng. Lucas: A sofa? Luna: En sofa. Lucas: And how do you say 'this is a table'? Luna: Dette er et bord. Lucas: Wonderful. I think you're ready to furnish your Norwegian home. Luna: I think so too. Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to all our listeners for joining us on episode 99. Lucas: Keep practicing these words around your home. See you next time for episode 100! Luna: Ha det bra!
