- 2:09Speaker 1: on YouTube or whichever podcasting Apple platform you were listening
- 2:12Speaker 1: to this show on. RJ said it in the chat,
- 2:14Speaker 1: already said, Aunt, you're all thrown off today. I am
- 2:16Speaker 1: thrown off. It's beautiful outside here in Buffalo slash Western
- 2:19Speaker 1: New York. And I was outside earlier this morning in
- 2:22Speaker 1: the afternoon, going outside again later the Sabers played tonight
- 2:27Speaker 1: and trying to mitigate my anxiety and worry about Game
- 2:30Speaker 1: six for the Sabers, Yes, RJ nervous about tonight's game
- 2:34Speaker 1: as well. One thousands that a lot of things are
- 2:36Speaker 1: just thrown off in my world, in my vibe and
- 2:38Speaker 1: everything right now. But we are here live on this Saturday,
- 2:42Speaker 1: this beautiful Saturday afternoon to talk about the twenty twenty
- 2:45Speaker 1: six Buffalo Bills schedule, to have some reaction, have some analysis,
- 2:49Speaker 1: have some discussion. I know this came out a couple
- 2:51Speaker 1: of nights ago, but I always think, you know, I know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: the schedule is annoying for some, a huge deal to some.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I do think it gets, you know, over analyzed and
- 3:00Speaker 1: discussed and promoted, and especially this year where it felt
- 3:04Speaker 1: like a lot of the leaks came out and essentially
- 3:06Speaker 1: everybody knew what everybody's schedule was even before the schedule
- 3:09Speaker 1: release happened. But I guess you got to give it
- 3:11Speaker 1: to the NFL for trying to make a spectacle out
- 3:14Speaker 1: of everything and get viewers and engagement for anything and
- 3:16Speaker 1: everything they can. So we're gonna have a fun discussion
- 3:18Speaker 1: and this episode this afternoon about the Buffalo Bills schedule,
- 3:22Speaker 1: their toughest stretches, some likes, dislikes, thought on the home,
- 3:26Speaker 1: thoughts on the home opener in terms of opponent, and
- 3:28Speaker 1: when it is the primetime games. Anything and everything is
- 3:31Speaker 1: up for discussion in this episode. And I got some
- 3:37Speaker 1: in depth episodes coming up as we go forward here
- 3:39Speaker 1: in Disguis Coverage, some film based episodes as always, but
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'll probably show game tape and some film in the episodes,
- 3:44Speaker 1: break down some scheme and structural pieces that will be
- 3:46Speaker 1: important to the bills this year, tying into the larger
- 3:49Speaker 1: meta of the NFL and trends and everything that we see.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And so for this episode, I was like, Okay, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 1: what's something more discussion based or fun based that we
- 3:57Speaker 1: could have, you know, conversational. The schedule was fun, and
- 4:00Speaker 1: I was like, what I want to kind of do
- 4:01Speaker 1: that by myself, and so I reached out to someone
- 4:04Speaker 1: who was the first name that came to my mind.
- 4:07Speaker 1: He's someone who has been with the Cover one brand
- 4:09Speaker 1: for a while. He's moved behind the scenes. Now you
- 4:12Speaker 1: know him as the producer and the guy who runs
- 4:14Speaker 1: everything behind the scenes for myself and Eric in the
- 4:16Speaker 1: film room. I have been on his show a multitude
- 4:19Speaker 1: of times. This is his first time on the Sky's coverage.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Welcoming to the stage, mister Joe de Rosa, thank you
- 4:26Speaker 1: very much for taking the time, thank you for joining me.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Welcome to the show.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Thank you for having me Anthony. I would like to
- 4:31Speaker 2: take this time to say I apologize because I think
- 4:34Speaker 2: the reason that it is so hectic on the show
- 4:36Speaker 2: this morning is my fault because we were talking offline
- 4:39Speaker 2: and I am a scatterbrained person and I have the
- 4:41Speaker 2: tendency to cause other people to lose their train of
- 4:44Speaker 2: thought because I app so I apologize that is on me.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And now we're here and I'm really excited to talk
- 4:51Speaker 2: on the show and I'm honored to be a guest
- 4:52Speaker 2: on disguised coverage for the first time ever. It is
- 4:56Speaker 2: cool to be here in the same seat that once
- 4:59Speaker 2: also a Dane Bugler and being a chimes and now
- 5:02Speaker 2: there's me, which you know, I obviously have the same
- 5:05Speaker 2: level of impact. So thank you for having me at
- 5:07Speaker 2: the Nay. This is gonna be fun and I'm looking
- 5:09Speaker 2: forward to talking with you about this absolute doozy of
- 5:13Speaker 2: a schedule.
- 5:15Speaker 1: When when the schedule first dropped for you, I guess,
- 5:18Speaker 1: let's go, let's go in. We'll take it an order
- 5:22Speaker 1: of kind of how things dropped in terms of news
- 5:27Speaker 1: and even kind of maybe even somewhat like chronological order.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I guess for the bills from a schedule standpoint, I
- 5:34Speaker 1: guess if that makes sense from a weekly order standpoint,
- 5:36Speaker 1: What are your thoughts on the home opener, it being
- 5:38Speaker 1: a Thursday night game, it being against the Lions. You know,
- 5:42Speaker 1: are you whelmed underwhelmed? Do you think this is great?
- 5:46Speaker 1: And are you pumped for it? What are your thoughts
- 5:48Speaker 1: on the home opener being a Thursday night game, short week,
- 5:51Speaker 1: you know, coming off the Texans in Week one? You
- 5:53Speaker 1: know it is there one line of thinking for you?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Is that a multitude of thoughts? Where are you for
- 5:57Speaker 1: the home opener?
- 5:59Speaker 2: I'm not just pointed in the matchup. I love the
- 6:01Speaker 2: matchup with the Lions, so I want to say that first.
- 6:04Speaker 2: I love playing Detroit. I love how every game the
- 6:07Speaker 2: two teams play against each other is chaos, with the
- 6:10Speaker 2: Bills thankfully being on the better end of it twice
- 6:13Speaker 2: and now a third time, this time in Buffalo. I
- 6:16Speaker 2: think it's going to be a really fun game. I
- 6:17Speaker 2: love Jamior Gibbs, I love the skill position group of Detroit,
- 6:21Speaker 2: and I think that for the Bills, it's a great
- 6:23Speaker 2: test for Jim Leonard. It's a great test for that
- 6:26Speaker 2: defense and kind of seeing how disciplined they are early.
- 6:30Speaker 2: That I'm excited about. But I hate that it's Thursday
- 6:32Speaker 2: night football and I hate that a brand new stadium's
- 6:35Speaker 2: debut has to be on Thursday Night Football for a
- 6:38Speaker 2: few reasons. I'm going to start with the obvious short
- 6:41Speaker 2: week team is playing Houston on the road in Week one.
- 6:45Speaker 2: That is obviously going to be, based off our history
- 6:48Speaker 2: with that team, a physical slugfest. That what real. Josh
- 6:55Speaker 2: Allen has not fared well in each time he's gone
- 6:57Speaker 2: to that stadium, or the three or four times.
- 6:59Speaker 1: I think it's been now that he's gone to that stadium.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It's a brutal follow up to ask this team to
- 7:06Speaker 2: play on a short week against a speedy, high powered
- 7:08Speaker 2: offense in your new stadium after that road game. I
- 7:12Speaker 2: don't like that opponent. I'm just not a fan of
- 7:14Speaker 2: Thursday night football in general. But essentially in this context,
- 7:18Speaker 2: the second part of it is we've had about four
- 7:22Speaker 2: or five years or so of development of this stadium
- 7:25Speaker 2: and a lot of hype, a lot of push from
- 7:28Speaker 2: the league. You know, these stadiums that are getting built.
- 7:31Speaker 2: It's really more of Roger Goodel flexing's muscles than it
- 7:34Speaker 2: is just the team individually. So like to represent that
- 7:37Speaker 2: process coming to a conclusion and having this brand new,
- 7:40Speaker 2: multimillion billion dollar facility, you open it up on Thursday
- 7:45Speaker 2: Night Football with my goals falling asleep. But the will
- 7:48Speaker 2: no disrespect to one of the greatest broadcasters ever, but
- 7:51Speaker 2: we need to be honest about his performances as well
- 7:53Speaker 2: the past couple of years. The enthusiasm level and what
- 7:56Speaker 2: you could have had in a very early week where
- 7:59Speaker 2: it was easy to manipulate and sell the idea of
- 8:02Speaker 2: brand new stadium deserves primetime game. Let's put this on
- 8:05Speaker 2: Sunday Night Football. This is a hell of matchup to
- 8:07Speaker 2: really good teams. We've seen how much these teams battle
- 8:10Speaker 2: each other anytime we've had them. Let's give this to Tariko,
- 8:14Speaker 2: Let's give this one to Nanson, Romo even, or let's
- 8:16Speaker 2: give this one to you know, the Monday night cast
- 8:19Speaker 2: and get Joe Buck there. Like, I just don't like
- 8:22Speaker 2: the fact that it's a Thursday night Football production. And
- 8:26Speaker 2: it's really just because I think it's selling short. How
- 8:29Speaker 2: big of a moment this is for the franchise and
- 8:31Speaker 2: the league when you have a new stadium open up,
- 8:34Speaker 2: like they put so much stock into this, Why are
- 8:36Speaker 2: we cutting it short and putting out what could be
- 8:39Speaker 2: a sloppy game or just again like a less enthused
- 8:43Speaker 2: broadcast when we could have had something better. So that's
- 8:45Speaker 2: really where I'm at on it. Good matchup, Love playing Detroit,
- 8:48Speaker 2: it's gonna be awesome, Hate that it's a short week,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and hate that it's Thursday night football instead of Sunday
- 8:52Speaker 2: night or Monday night.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I echo a lot of that. I I'll start with
- 8:58Speaker 1: the Lions themselves because I don't you know, to your point,
- 9:03Speaker 1: they're a good football team. I don't have an issue
- 9:06Speaker 1: with the Lions themselves. Again, at the end of the day,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I just want a good football game, and I think
- 9:12Speaker 1: this will be a good football game. Also, massive disclaimer
- 9:16Speaker 1: on everything. Everything for the schedule is always based on
- 9:19Speaker 1: like the twenty twenty five version or the previous version
- 9:22Speaker 1: of teams. So for all we know, the Lions ended
- 9:25Speaker 1: up being awful this year, the Bills could end up
- 9:27Speaker 1: being awful this year, Like ninety percent of the teams
- 9:29Speaker 1: the Bills play could be terrible. Injuries, all these other
- 9:31Speaker 1: very well, so on and so forth. So I want
- 9:33Speaker 1: to put that out there before anybody jumps in to
- 9:34Speaker 1: be like, we don't even know how good these teams
- 9:36Speaker 1: are going to be, Like why are we even dis
- 9:38Speaker 1: going this? This is pointless no, it's fun and we
- 9:40Speaker 1: like it. My issue with it being the Lions, and
- 9:44Speaker 1: I understand the Ralph Wilson connection with Detroit, the city
- 9:49Speaker 1: itself and the Lions as well. I just thought, or
- 9:52Speaker 1: maybe not even thought, I guess I personally wanted the
- 9:55Speaker 1: home opener to have more of an on field history
- 10:00Speaker 1: rivalry aspect to it, especially looking at who else the
- 10:05Speaker 1: Bills have on their docket. Like I initially from a
- 10:07Speaker 1: home schedule standpoint, I didn't count include the Chiefs because
- 10:11Speaker 1: I was like, you know, Mahomes is probably not going
- 10:13Speaker 1: to play to start the year, but now it looks
- 10:14Speaker 1: like he is, which is of course, yeah, of course
- 10:17Speaker 1: he's gonna find a way. And I'm also kind of
- 10:19Speaker 1: maybe buying into the conspiracy theory part of like he
- 10:21Speaker 1: knew the season was going down the drain, So it's like,
- 10:24Speaker 1: did he fake that knee injury? The like, did he
- 10:27Speaker 1: pull Lebron randomly shown up to the podium with a
- 10:29Speaker 1: cast on his hand to be like, oh my hand
- 10:30Speaker 1: with my hand, Oh my god, you know, because.
- 10:32Speaker 2: They is so noble of him to do that right before,
- 10:35Speaker 2: like literally minutes away from getting eliminated when he was healthy,
- 10:38Speaker 2: right right.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So I'm like, because like I really was, like, at
- 10:42Speaker 1: the earliest we'll comeback is end of September, maybe October's
- 10:45Speaker 1: but you know, magic medicine whatever. But I thought, like, Okay,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you have the Chiefs as a home opponent this year.
- 10:50Speaker 1: You have the Ravens as a home opponent this year.
- 10:52Speaker 1: You have the Patriots as a home opponent this year
- 10:54Speaker 1: because they're in the division. The Dolphins are probably not
- 10:57Speaker 1: gonna be a good football team, no jinx, but the
- 10:59Speaker 1: story and the his there, I just thought one of
- 11:02Speaker 1: those would be the home opener. My initial gut feeling too,
- 11:06Speaker 1: to kind of tie into it, was I thought they'd
- 11:09Speaker 1: be the Sunday night Week one game home against the Patriots,
- 11:12Speaker 1: kicking that season off. Hip the Patch are coming off
- 11:15Speaker 1: the Super Bowl, you know, the Bills and Pat's rivalry,
- 11:18Speaker 1: Like is it over for Josh Allen as Drake made
- 11:20Speaker 1: the new guy, we got the stadium. The script essentially
- 11:23Speaker 1: writes itself, but you just from an on field perspective,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and again, the Lions are very good football team. You
- 11:29Speaker 1: can make the case that they'll be better than a
- 11:31Speaker 1: bunch of those teams I just mentioned in twenty twenty six.
- 11:34Speaker 1: But from an on field rivalry perspective combined with being
- 11:37Speaker 1: a perceived to be a good team. This year, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: just thought there would be more home to the on
- 11:45Speaker 1: field rivalry or you know, hatred aspect to it. Not that.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Just again, not that Detroit is bad, and I understand
- 11:51Speaker 1: the Ralph Wilson Detroit connection, but I don't think the
- 11:54Speaker 1: Ralph Wilson Detroit and Lions connection. Trump's the years of
- 11:58Speaker 1: Bills Dolphins, the years of Bills Patriots, the recent years
- 12:01Speaker 1: of Bill's Ravens and Bill's Chiefs and Mahomes Allen Mahomes
- 12:05Speaker 1: Lamar like this whole conversation. So I thought there would
- 12:07Speaker 1: be more oomph there. But I'm fine with that. Thursday Night, Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I don't like the Thursday night aspect, just because you know,
- 12:16Speaker 1: last year third the Thursday night games were actually better.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But traditionally and historically, Thursday night games have been really sloppy.
- 12:22Speaker 1: Like I think it's I actually think it's a large
- 12:24Speaker 1: ask to you want these dudes to go to war
- 12:26Speaker 1: on a Sunday and then have to get their bodies
- 12:28Speaker 1: ready to play three days later, like in the middle
- 12:31Speaker 1: of the week. I don't like that. And in the
- 12:33Speaker 1: early part of the year where you're coming off three
- 12:36Speaker 1: preseason games, majority of your starters aren't playing, so you're
- 12:40Speaker 1: playing Week one, and then you're going into the Thursday
- 12:42Speaker 1: night into week two. The earlier Thursday night games tend
- 12:45Speaker 1: to be even more sloppy because you're still trying to
- 12:48Speaker 1: get into regular season rhythm and you're getting thrown out
- 12:51Speaker 1: a whack almost right away to start. So I'm not
- 12:54Speaker 1: a big fan of Thursday games in general. I also think,
- 12:57Speaker 1: you know, I didn't think of this next part initially,
- 12:59Speaker 1: but people mention it, like, I know it's going to
- 13:01Speaker 1: be annoying for some people to be like it's a
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's on like a weekday, work day, and it's the
- 13:05Speaker 1: home opener. I feel like a lot of people wanted
- 13:07Speaker 1: like the full tailgating experience of a Sunday night game
- 13:12Speaker 1: or a Sunday one o'clock game, and to get into
- 13:14Speaker 1: the routine and the pomp and the circumstance of all.
- 13:17Speaker 1: And now it's like, do I got to call out
- 13:19Speaker 1: of work for this? Like if you live in the area,
- 13:22Speaker 1: it's going to be a zoo on that day and
- 13:25Speaker 1: you're kind of thinking of that, but that's that's not
- 13:27Speaker 1: for me. It's not to live around the stadium. I
- 13:28Speaker 1: live like twenty five minutes north of that. But yeah,
- 13:30Speaker 1: just from an on field I thought there'd be more
- 13:32Speaker 1: of a rivalry aspect. The Lions are a good football team.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I think it's cool with the connection with Ralph Wilson.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I just like if you if you gave me the
- 13:40Speaker 1: choice between or even I never gave you the choice.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Feels like you could pick your home opener team and
- 13:43Speaker 1: it's Lions, Patriots, Chiefs, Ravens. I would pick Patriots, Chiefs,
- 13:49Speaker 1: and Ravens, not in that order, but I pick all
- 13:51Speaker 1: three of those teams ahead of picking the Lions for
- 13:54Speaker 1: the home opener because of the sake of the new again,
- 13:57Speaker 1: the new stadium, Like just yeah, I guess you could
- 14:01Speaker 1: throw the Jets in there, but man, the Jets are
- 14:03Speaker 1: the Jets.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I would take.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I felt a little underwhelmed. Yeah, you can take Miami.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I just felt a little underwhelmed. It'll probably still be
- 14:11Speaker 1: a very good football game. Detroit's really good team. But
- 14:14Speaker 1: I thought there'd be more OpEd to it. I thought
- 14:16Speaker 1: this would be more of a Yeah. I just thought
- 14:19Speaker 1: they'd opt to go for more hatred or rivalry instead
- 14:22Speaker 1: of just oh good football game. Sure, but I think
- 14:25Speaker 1: you could have gotten that plus hatred in rivalry with
- 14:27Speaker 1: some of these other.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Matchups, and you know, something like it is cool that
- 14:31Speaker 2: it's the only game of the day, right, Like I
- 14:33Speaker 2: do like the fact that Thursday Night football isolates one
- 14:36Speaker 2: matchup and for the Bills, now, the entirety of that day,
- 14:40Speaker 2: from Amazon, social media, from NFL social media is centered
- 14:44Speaker 2: on this stadium opening and it gets its shine and
- 14:46Speaker 2: I love that, But also I don't think we should
- 14:50Speaker 2: have it be opening up on a day where it's
- 14:53Speaker 2: inconvenient for literally everybody that eyes might be able to
- 14:56Speaker 2: miss the start of the game because people are coming
- 14:58Speaker 2: home from work, whether that's local, whether that's national. You know,
- 15:01Speaker 2: for me, I get home late, so when I want
- 15:04Speaker 2: to turn a game on, I got a hurry and
- 15:06Speaker 2: get there, and I'm probably missing minutes of the first quarter.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And I find that when you're talking about again, any
- 15:13Speaker 2: regular regular opening game like last year Bill's Dolphins or
- 15:17Speaker 2: a couple of years ago when they opened up in
- 15:18Speaker 2: Miami and that was the first Thursday night game, that's fine,
- 15:21Speaker 2: you know, like listen, obviously we all want to have
- 15:24Speaker 2: the beautiful primetime Sunday night game or the most convenient game.
- 15:28Speaker 2: But at the very least that's Miami storied rivalry. Nothing
- 15:31Speaker 2: really at State besides another season. But this is a
- 15:34Speaker 2: brand new stadium opening. And I know it sounds a
- 15:36Speaker 2: bit dramatic from my end, but like this is a
- 15:39Speaker 2: like a four again at four or five years. It's
- 15:42Speaker 2: all flown by, which is kind of insane, but billion
- 15:45Speaker 2: dollar investment for the league to demonstrate how much impact
- 15:49Speaker 2: they have on a city. Like it's Roger Goodell saying, hey,
- 15:51Speaker 2: look at my brand new stadium and just to have
- 15:54Speaker 2: this be like kind of corners cut around when you
- 15:57Speaker 2: have the game start. I'm just not a fan. And
- 15:59Speaker 2: then for the I agree with you completely, like Lions
- 16:02Speaker 2: are cool but historical aspect or something that's like really engaging. Yeah,
- 16:07Speaker 2: I would have preferred Patriots. I would have preferred Miami.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I would have preferred Jets, Like your division has so
- 16:12Speaker 2: much history, really, Miami, to me, like you just sell
- 16:16Speaker 2: the Kelly Marino aspect. You could sell that they've been
- 16:18Speaker 2: playing on Thursday night football for the past hundred years.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Apparently it seems like that way. You know, it's it's
- 16:23Speaker 1: just or even get the opportunity to kind of do
- 16:26Speaker 1: like no disrespect in the Dolphins, but yeah, home opener
- 16:31Speaker 1: beat the hell out of arrival toy, like kind of
- 16:33Speaker 1: christen your new stadium a little bit. I also thought
- 16:36Speaker 1: this one too. This is a good point from Michael.
- 16:38Speaker 1: The last game in the old stadium was the Jets. Yeah,
- 16:41Speaker 1: they're doing the first one in this one against the Jets.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Like I do think of that. Yeah, And there's again
- 16:47Speaker 1: not to be too dramatic because it's just a stadium
- 16:50Speaker 1: or whatever, but you don't get you don't get new
- 16:54Speaker 1: stadiums all the time, Like this is the second stadium
- 16:58Speaker 1: in my lifetime for the Bills. There's a good chance
- 17:01Speaker 1: it'll it's only going to be two in my lifetime.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Like when they when are they going to build another
- 17:07Speaker 1: new stadium. It's probably going to be a very very,
- 17:10Speaker 1: very very very long time. So I just feel like, yeah,
- 17:13Speaker 1: you can never get that first game back. And I
- 17:16Speaker 1: just again, Detroit is a good team, and I do
- 17:19Speaker 1: like the idea of you know, I think anybody who
- 17:21Speaker 1: watches this show knows that I have a lot of
- 17:22Speaker 1: concerns about the Bills run defense. I have for the
- 17:24Speaker 1: past several years. Yeah, I know right, shock, I still
- 17:28Speaker 1: have them this year. I like the idea that they're
- 17:30Speaker 1: going to play the Lions in Week two, a team
- 17:32Speaker 1: that wants to run the ball through your face, like not.
- 17:35Speaker 1: They don't want to just run at you, they want
- 17:36Speaker 1: to run through your face. So I like that test
- 17:41Speaker 1: coupling it with the Texans game. I also think it's
- 17:43Speaker 1: rough that's back to back, back to back physical games
- 17:47Speaker 1: to start the year when again, everybody's not in game
- 17:50Speaker 1: shape yet from a conditioning standpoint of physicality, and like
- 17:54Speaker 1: mending and the bumps and bruises and getting into the
- 17:57Speaker 1: rhythm of everything, your body's still not like it doesn't.
- 18:01Speaker 1: They don't do two a days in training camp like
- 18:03Speaker 1: they used to with the physicality. Teams don't wear full
- 18:05Speaker 1: pads as much as they used to. They don't practice
- 18:07Speaker 1: tackling as much as they used to. The preseason isn't
- 18:09Speaker 1: really dress rehearsal anymore. And you gotta go up. You
- 18:13Speaker 1: got to open up and go down to Houston for
- 18:15Speaker 1: a bloodbath against a team that just wants to beat
- 18:18Speaker 1: that not only wants to. The Texans beat the hell
- 18:20Speaker 1: out of everybody. Doesn't mean that they win every game,
- 18:22Speaker 1: but they beat the hell out of everybody, and then
- 18:24Speaker 1: they revamp their offensive line so it's not like they're
- 18:26Speaker 1: the one sided unit like they were last year, which
- 18:30Speaker 1: I mean, they still beat the Bills with Davis Mills
- 18:32Speaker 1: and QBI, but you gotta go to Houston and do that,
- 18:36Speaker 1: and then you got to come back home and play
- 18:37Speaker 1: the Lions. Yeah, back to back physical games. I do
- 18:40Speaker 1: think that it is a little interesting to start the
- 18:43Speaker 1: year and you have overall pomp and circumstances. I think
- 18:44Speaker 1: they could have done better. I think it could have
- 18:46Speaker 1: been more interesting. I do want to parlay that actually
- 18:51Speaker 1: into hold on, let me change the banner for the bomb.
- 19:00Speaker 2: You got you got a you got an absolute banger
- 19:02Speaker 2: of a comment that just came in. That's got me giggling.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I didn't see it, didn't see it.
- 19:05Speaker 2: It's uh, you'll know which one.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Oh, you're all a bunch of babies. It's a competitive league.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Who cares? Why are we being babies? I don't understand,
- 19:13Speaker 1: because we're talking about like other games we would have liked.
- 19:16Speaker 1: I don't I don't understand. A kaya Morey said, hold up,
- 19:19Speaker 1: that's the sound of Jordan Phillips being blown off the ball.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I love that Texans have a ton to prove on offense.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I like getting them week one before they gel. That's
- 19:28Speaker 1: fair point. Yeah, that is a and.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I agree with that for the defensive aspect too. Now
- 19:32Speaker 2: it it's still the Texans, it's still Demico Ryans. There's continuity,
- 19:36Speaker 2: but weak ones weird. It's weird for every team. It's
- 19:39Speaker 2: weird no matter who you are, Like we've seen Sean
- 19:41Speaker 2: McDermott teams act weird in Week one. Last year's defense
- 19:44Speaker 2: is a great example of that. Like you could sell
- 19:46Speaker 2: me on the idea that Houston's just not wholly fleshed out.
- 19:49Speaker 2: And also they've typically gotten off to slow starts, so
- 19:52Speaker 2: it might be each.
- 19:54Speaker 1: Year each year is like one in four, one in three.
- 19:56Speaker 1: Last year.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Yeah, remember last year they were even a playoff team,
- 20:01Speaker 2: like he wrote them all with them a complete wash.
- 20:03Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and then they won like six in a row,
- 20:05Speaker 2: including against the Bills. It might be an opportune and time,
- 20:07Speaker 2: Like that's the thing. I'm okay with getting that game
- 20:10Speaker 2: out of the way, But I'm more okay with getting
- 20:12Speaker 2: that game out of the way and not playing a
- 20:14Speaker 2: Thursday night game for your home opener, Like you know what,
- 20:17Speaker 2: I mean, like it would be nice if it was like, Okay,
- 20:19Speaker 2: the home openers the next week's Sunday night football against
- 20:22Speaker 2: the Lions. Then I'm like, all right, you know what,
- 20:24Speaker 2: that's fine. I can live with that. But Thursday night
- 20:26Speaker 2: after playing Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter and everyone's favorite
- 20:31Speaker 2: Buffalo Bill Caden McDonald and that live backer corps and
- 20:35Speaker 2: the secondary, Like, that's that's tough, dude.
- 20:38Speaker 1: And I like this. I like this comment here to
- 20:41Speaker 1: this is tough break for an unproven coaching staff. Better
- 20:43Speaker 1: get ready. I also liked I didn't. I like that
- 20:45Speaker 1: point as well, of like Brady's got experience, Leonard's got experienced.
- 20:49Speaker 1: This is Leonard's obviously first full season as a DC
- 20:52Speaker 1: in the NFL, Joe Brady's first season as I coach,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and the Texans staff is well versed. The Lions staff
- 20:59Speaker 1: is well versed. But yeah, so that's another layer as well.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Oh yeah, good comments, good points. I want so I
- 21:05Speaker 1: wanted to tie that into this next part of the conversation. Here,
- 21:08Speaker 1: the toughest stretch and or stretches for me, I think
- 21:11Speaker 1: there's two potentially, based off of what we're looking at
- 21:14Speaker 1: right now, they could be equal for you it could
- 21:16Speaker 1: be one over the other. I look at weeks one
- 21:20Speaker 1: through five and weeks twelve through sixteen right now as
- 21:24Speaker 1: at an absolute murderers roll on paper as of right now.
- 21:28Speaker 1: So weeks one through five at the Texans home against
- 21:31Speaker 1: the Lions on Thursday night football, home against the Chargers
- 21:34Speaker 1: home against the Pats at the Rams on Monday Night football.
- 21:38Speaker 1: So that's the opening five, and then weeks twelve through
- 21:41Speaker 1: sixteen home against the Chiefs on Thanksgiving at the Patriots,
- 21:45Speaker 1: at the Packers on Sunday night football, home against the
- 21:48Speaker 1: Bears on Saturday night, and then at the Broncos on Christmas. Oh,
- 21:55Speaker 1: so those are the times, and those are like the
- 21:57Speaker 1: primetime aspects. But it's purely just you want to focus
- 21:59Speaker 1: on the one through five Texans, Lions, Chargers, Pats, Rams,
- 22:04Speaker 1: twelve through sixteen, Chiefs, Pats, Packers, Bears, Broncos, majority of
- 22:11Speaker 1: those being on the road. Are each of these stretches equal?
- 22:14Speaker 1: For you? Do you think one is harder than the other?
- 22:17Speaker 1: Is there one that you're looking at more of?
- 22:19Speaker 2: Like?
- 22:19Speaker 1: Oh, that's the big oner?
- 22:20Speaker 2: Is it both? Like?
- 22:22Speaker 1: Man, these are two brutal aspects, one to start the
- 22:24Speaker 1: year and one to essentially finish it.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I go back and forth on this a lot, but
- 22:29Speaker 2: I'm gonna say it's the first five weeks, and I'm
- 22:33Speaker 2: gonna say to layer off the point that you just
- 22:36Speaker 2: made earlier, because I was thinking this before we went live.
- 22:39Speaker 2: So not only is it a gauntlet, and again based
- 22:42Speaker 2: off last year's results, right, anything could happen. There could
- 22:45Speaker 2: be an injury, the teams could simply regress, like we
- 22:48Speaker 2: could be looking at this in total fear lenses and
- 22:51Speaker 2: it could actually be really easy. But let's just say
- 22:54Speaker 2: these teams are equal to what they were last year
- 22:57Speaker 2: results wise. I think that this is a bit harder.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And I say it because, like you pointed out earlier,
- 23:03Speaker 2: we have a first year head coach in Joe Brady. Yes,
- 23:06Speaker 2: he has been with the team for multiple seasons and
- 23:08Speaker 2: has an offensive playbook installed, has familiarity with a lot
- 23:13Speaker 2: of these guys that are on this team. That's great,
- 23:15Speaker 2: but he wasn't a head coach and he hasn't been
- 23:18Speaker 2: an NFL head coach. On the flip side of it,
- 23:20Speaker 2: Jim Leonard has been a college head coach, has a
- 23:23Speaker 2: college system that ran really well at Wisconsin, has had
- 23:26Speaker 2: time in Denver, as an assistant, has played in the league,
- 23:30Speaker 2: but hasn't been an NFL defensive coordinator. And I think
- 23:34Speaker 2: that putting those two factors together makes me very weary
- 23:37Speaker 2: of this opening because it's really really hard to sell
- 23:43Speaker 2: to this fan base in the midst of Josh Allen's
- 23:45Speaker 2: prime with the urgency that exists for this team to
- 23:49Speaker 2: get over the hump that this team gets off to
- 23:51Speaker 2: a slow start because of that inexperience and because of
- 23:55Speaker 2: the lack of gel that exists on both sides of
- 23:59Speaker 2: the ball. Maybe more for the defense and the offense.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I largely expect the offense to stay consistent, if anything,
- 24:04Speaker 2: maybe even be better this year because I do like
- 24:06Speaker 2: having Pete Carmichael in the room who had been there
- 24:09Speaker 2: with Peyton and Drew Brees, to give some guidance to
- 24:12Speaker 2: Joe Brady, but also give some new kind of ideas
- 24:15Speaker 2: and rinkal layers to the running back passing game or
- 24:18Speaker 2: the utilization of their tight ends. Like I am very
- 24:20Speaker 2: excited to have him here because he's not calling plays
- 24:23Speaker 2: and I like what he could do with Joe Brady.
- 24:25Speaker 2: But the defense worries me. Not because I don't trust
- 24:29Speaker 2: Jim Leonard. I think Jim Leonard is going to wind
- 24:31Speaker 2: up being a very good defensive coordinator for the Bills.
- 24:33Speaker 2: But this is a it's a bit of an overhaul,
- 24:36Speaker 2: and I think that the growing pains are going to
- 24:39Speaker 2: be seen very early, maybe not as much. I mean,
- 24:42Speaker 2: the Texans could easily exploit it because they've revamped their
- 24:45Speaker 2: running game and they have talent in that wide receiver room,
- 24:48Speaker 2: and that talent should be healthy. Nico Collins, Jalen Nole,
- 24:52Speaker 2: Jayden Higgins, Like, that's a complete receiving court, pairing that
- 24:56Speaker 2: with all of these high powered offenses, I mean the
- 24:59Speaker 2: Lions and the speed and explosiveness they possess, the Chargers
- 25:03Speaker 2: with Mike McDaniel taking over, and then.
- 25:06Speaker 1: You know who has a ton of success, Like I know,
- 25:09Speaker 1: the Dolphins didn't really beat the Bills in McDaniel's tenure.
- 25:12Speaker 1: The offense had success against the Bills fairly regularly through
- 25:16Speaker 1: the air and especially on the ground. So it's a
- 25:18Speaker 1: guy who's who's got a pretty good playbook. Granted, much
- 25:21Speaker 1: different defense versus what Leonard is, So maybe some new
- 25:23Speaker 1: on new, but yeah, a guy who's familiar with the
- 25:25Speaker 1: Bills organization.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. And note now that could pose
- 25:30Speaker 2: an issue. And you look at their skill group and
- 25:32Speaker 2: the tight ends they have. They just got in Djoku
- 25:34Speaker 2: with Gadston, you have Lad McConkie, Trey Harris, Brendan Thompson,
- 25:38Speaker 2: who we really liked in the pre draft process, those
- 25:40Speaker 2: running backs. It's a really talented group with a very
- 25:43Speaker 2: talented OC. You talk about New England, who is going
- 25:47Speaker 2: the worst kept secret in the league. AJ Brown is
- 25:49Speaker 2: going to join that receiving corps, and you have a
- 25:52Speaker 2: very dynamic structure of their wide receiver corps with Drake
- 25:56Speaker 2: May and the explosive passing. Then just following that up
- 25:59Speaker 2: by going to Los Angeles to play one of the
- 26:01Speaker 2: best offenses in football with Sean McVay one of the
- 26:03Speaker 2: best offensive mines in football.
- 26:06Speaker 1: That's a real one of the best defenses in football too.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Absolutely, you could argue, I would say, with the exception
- 26:13Speaker 2: of maybe the Lions, to start, like three or four
- 26:17Speaker 2: of these teams could have top ten defenses like I
- 26:20Speaker 2: could easily. Texans obviously, Patriots were an extremely good defense
- 26:23Speaker 2: last year. That interior defensive line is one of the best,
- 26:26Speaker 2: if not the best, in football. The Rams like putting
- 26:29Speaker 2: it together another year with Shula. This is a gauntlet
- 26:32Speaker 2: for Jim Leonard, and my question and why I consider
- 26:35Speaker 2: it more difficult than the other stretch, which that other
- 26:38Speaker 2: stretch is insane. But maybe the team has more chemistry,
- 26:41Speaker 2: Maybe the team has geled a bit more schematically there
- 26:43Speaker 2: where even if there's injury, they have an understanding, their
- 26:46Speaker 2: communications more on point, or maybe they've exceeded expectations and
- 26:50Speaker 2: they're actually just one of the top units by then.
- 26:52Speaker 2: But you still in the early part of a schedule.
- 26:55Speaker 2: It's so embryonic, it's all over the place that I
- 26:57Speaker 2: just see this as really difficult, and I see it
- 26:59Speaker 2: as more difficult because of the pressure on new coaches
- 27:02Speaker 2: to get off to at least a good enough start,
- 27:04Speaker 2: Like I can forgive them for three and two one
- 27:07Speaker 2: hundred percent. I'll be happy with three and two for
- 27:09Speaker 2: Joe Brady and Jim Leonard if you're talking, and I
- 27:12Speaker 2: don't want to put this in the universe, but like
- 27:13Speaker 2: a negative record, a really bad record, that's not only
- 27:17Speaker 2: bad to kind of have as the start of the
- 27:19Speaker 2: year and your unproven nature of your coaching staff, but
- 27:22Speaker 2: that's really bad for the fan base and the people
- 27:25Speaker 2: that are already putting so much pressure and already didn't
- 27:27Speaker 2: like the Joe Brady higher and already hate Brandon being
- 27:30Speaker 2: like it just layers all of that on top of it.
- 27:32Speaker 2: And it's why I think for those factors, I think
- 27:35Speaker 2: that's much. That's my most difficult part of the.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Year I've been I've said this got a couple of
- 27:41Speaker 4: shows that I've been on throughout this offseason, but I
- 27:45Speaker 4: feel like the Bills season this year has a real
- 27:49Speaker 4: chance to be at powder Keg if things don't start
- 27:53Speaker 4: out strong or positive.
- 27:56Speaker 1: The way the season has ended year after year. Then
- 28:00Speaker 1: the McDermott firing but being staying and essentially getting promoted
- 28:06Speaker 1: the press conferences, majority of the moves largely staying the same.
- 28:11Speaker 1: From a free agency standpoint and a draft standpoint, the
- 28:14Speaker 1: archetypes are pretty much the same, even though it's you know, fresh,
- 28:18Speaker 1: we got this whole idea of like, oh, you know,
- 28:20Speaker 1: the McDermott cuffs are off, everything is gonna change, new scheme,
- 28:24Speaker 1: new mind, new philosophy, and it's like these guys are
- 28:27Speaker 1: the same type of guys they brought in before.
- 28:29Speaker 2: They draft Durant.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Yeah, well there they go, like get that, just I'm
- 28:33Speaker 1: brand I'm brand and TJ Parkers Again, TJ Parkers think
- 28:36Speaker 1: he is a good football player and a majority of teams,
- 28:38Speaker 1: but like him and Chubb being your two edge ads
- 28:41Speaker 1: are like those are mcder Those would have been McDermott
- 28:44Speaker 1: Bean type of guys. I think there's a real potential
- 28:49Speaker 1: that if they start out one in three, two in three,
- 28:54Speaker 1: or one in four, if they start out slow and
- 28:57Speaker 1: or ugly in any fashion, I think the frustration with
- 29:02Speaker 1: Bean is there for a lot of fans. I think
- 29:04Speaker 1: a lot of the fan base was decently underwhelmed with
- 29:08Speaker 1: the Brady higher and then you add in all the
- 29:11Speaker 1: extra drama of how expensive the new stadium is and
- 29:15Speaker 1: the ticket costs and all these things. I just think
- 29:18Speaker 1: there's a lot of a lot of different sized bubbles
- 29:23Speaker 1: bubbling up to the surface in a variety of ways,
- 29:25Speaker 1: and winning cures all and makes everybody forget about everything,
- 29:28Speaker 1: both good and bad. But I do wonder if they
- 29:32Speaker 1: start out, like if things start out rough, how quick
- 29:35Speaker 1: does everybody go for the torches and the pitchforks and
- 29:38Speaker 1: is ready and is calling for heads and wants you know,
- 29:41Speaker 1: at this guy's job, and this is terrible, Like how
- 29:43Speaker 1: much overreaction and yelling. Do we see So you kind
- 29:47Speaker 1: of mentioned that opening stretches being your tube. I do wonder, yeah,
- 29:50Speaker 1: like if the Bill, if the Bills start out, oh
- 29:52Speaker 1: and two, how much does everybody just knew it being sucked?
- 29:56Speaker 1: Brady stucks, everything's bad? Or like what does it take?
- 29:59Speaker 1: What record? That definitely plays into it a bit. Yeah,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I'm and even from the stretch standpoint, the opening is
- 30:07Speaker 1: tough for me because there's so much variable because teams
- 30:11Speaker 1: don't know who they are in September, So like we
- 30:14Speaker 1: could catch the Texans on and off week, the Texans
- 30:17Speaker 1: could catch us us on an off week, the Texans
- 30:21Speaker 1: could piss pound the Bills, and the Bills go and
- 30:24Speaker 1: win ten straight and we all look back and then
- 30:26Speaker 1: everybody looks back and it's like, man, how did the
- 30:28Speaker 1: Texans beat the Bills in week one? Or vice versa,
- 30:31Speaker 1: could be any of these things. There's so many variables.
- 30:34Speaker 1: But again, on I do think that stretch is rough
- 30:37Speaker 1: the only reason, and I'm torn on it. I think
- 30:42Speaker 1: the decider for me not to play this card, but
- 30:44Speaker 1: because three of them are at home, that makes me
- 30:48Speaker 1: feel a little better. I'm just thinking of the playoff
- 30:53Speaker 1: push and the stretch teams rounding into form. And again,
- 30:57Speaker 1: if we're keeping everything the same as equal as last year, right, Chiefs, Patriots, Packers, Bears, Broncos,
- 31:05Speaker 1: all of those teams have like you know, conference championship
- 31:10Speaker 1: aspirations from an internal perspective, but from an objective outside
- 31:15Speaker 1: perspective as well. I'm still torn on it, Like I
- 31:18Speaker 1: wanted to get your thoughts and discuss it, because I'm
- 31:20Speaker 1: legitimately on the fence, like I'm fifty one forty nine,
- 31:23Speaker 1: and I flip flop on each of them every other,
- 31:25Speaker 1: like I want to feel convicted one way or the other.
- 31:28Speaker 1: I think you can make the case. I think that
- 31:30Speaker 1: they're both pretty equal. It's just a matter of, you know,
- 31:35Speaker 1: do you want to have that stretch in the beginning,
- 31:37Speaker 1: Is it potentially beneficial because teams are still ironing out
- 31:41Speaker 1: all the wrinkles and the kinks. So, but you know
- 31:43Speaker 1: that goes both ways. Your opponents could be ironing out
- 31:46Speaker 1: the kinks, but so could you. So your opponent might
- 31:49Speaker 1: not be the best version of themselves, but you also
- 31:51Speaker 1: might not be the best version of yourself. And then
- 31:53Speaker 1: so how does that balance? So that for me, I
- 31:56Speaker 1: kind of call that a wash. And again, if I'm
- 32:01Speaker 1: splitting it, it's like literally fifty one to forty nine.
- 32:03Speaker 1: I think I'm gonna go twelve through sixteen just because
- 32:06Speaker 1: I think that's the point when everybody is like, all right,
- 32:09Speaker 1: everybody strap in, we have to make a push. Let's go.
- 32:12Speaker 1: And so the Chiefs are gonna be locked in in real,
- 32:15Speaker 1: the Pats, the Packers, the Bears, the Broncos, plus again,
- 32:18Speaker 1: three of those games are on the road in gonna
- 32:22Speaker 1: be hostile environments, like the Broncos are gonna get up
- 32:25Speaker 1: for that. The Packers are gonna get up for that,
- 32:26Speaker 1: because the Packers get up for every game. The Patriots game,
- 32:29Speaker 1: They're gonna get up for that. When I do like
- 32:31Speaker 1: though about that Patriots game, and again scheduling, I like
- 32:35Speaker 1: that going into that Chiefs week in week twelve, the
- 32:39Speaker 1: game before that is the Dolphins. So again it doesn't
- 32:41Speaker 1: mean you can't. You could pun on that week, but
- 32:43Speaker 1: lesser quality, yeah, home Dolphins, a little lesser quality. I
- 32:47Speaker 1: like that it's the Chiefs on that Thursday, and then
- 32:49Speaker 1: you get a ten day rest before you get the
- 32:51Speaker 1: Patriots in week thirteen, so that also sways a little bit.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with the twelve through sixteen fifty one
- 32:57Speaker 1: to forty nine if we if you ask me again
- 32:59Speaker 1: to discuss the in ten minutes, I would I might
- 33:01Speaker 1: say weeks one through five, Like I genuinely could go
- 33:04Speaker 1: either way. And I think that is fun and also
- 33:06Speaker 1: scary because they've got two on paper gauntlets to start
- 33:10Speaker 1: the year and end the year. Like it'll be fun
- 33:15Speaker 1: to know kind of right out the gate what this
- 33:18Speaker 1: Bills team could be this year, and then we're also
- 33:20Speaker 1: going to get another prove it moment down the stretch,
- 33:24Speaker 1: because it's not just like, well, the schedule starts out
- 33:27Speaker 1: tough and then falls off, or you know, it ends strong,
- 33:29Speaker 1: but it starts out so weak. What is this team?
- 33:32Speaker 1: Who is this team? I think we're gonna have it.
- 33:34Speaker 1: We have the opportunity to get a really good understanding
- 33:36Speaker 1: of what the twenty twenty six Bills are because of
- 33:38Speaker 1: how the season starts and how it ends, because both
- 33:40Speaker 1: of these stretches on paper look really brutal.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be it. In my opinion, just based off
- 33:47Speaker 2: my kind of internal projection of the Bills this year,
- 33:51Speaker 2: it's gonna look like two different teams because again, I
- 33:53Speaker 2: just think we have to be more realistic about what
- 33:57Speaker 2: a total I don't want to keep I don't want
- 33:58Speaker 2: to call it a total scheme over like it is.
- 34:00Speaker 2: But also like McDermott, when you look at what he
- 34:03Speaker 2: was doing in the back half of last year, his
- 34:05Speaker 2: coverage concepts, his mix of fronts was stuff that you
- 34:09Speaker 2: saw teams that run a three four do, like it's
- 34:11Speaker 2: a hybrid type of defense. So it's not like we
- 34:14Speaker 2: haven't ever seen it. It's not like we haven't ever
- 34:16Speaker 2: ran it. So it's not impossible to say that there
- 34:18Speaker 2: is some level of continuity. But I do think when
- 34:21Speaker 2: you have a new coach, new calls, new ideas like
- 34:24Speaker 2: how he wants to attack, that just takes a lot
- 34:27Speaker 2: of time to install, and a lot of these guys
- 34:29Speaker 2: are hardwired to an older system that it's like, well, damn,
- 34:32Speaker 2: like now we got to relearn everything and we're playing
- 34:34Speaker 2: on the road to start. And I think that why
- 34:37Speaker 2: I don't say that stretch. I totally agree with fifty
- 34:40Speaker 2: one forty nine, Like I could give you either or
- 34:42Speaker 2: and it would be I think a correct answer. But
- 34:45Speaker 2: I just think like it's the implications of the start
- 34:48Speaker 2: of this.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Year and uncertainty fair, and I feel like, I do
- 34:53Speaker 1: you think the team will feel that just a pig
- 34:55Speaker 1: back they in the beginning like we have to come
- 34:59Speaker 1: out longer. Everybody's gonna want to kill us, okay.
- 35:01Speaker 2: And I'm gonna say this, I think Josh Allen feels
- 35:04Speaker 2: it because you got to think, like, this guy has
- 35:06Speaker 2: only ever played with one head coach his entire career
- 35:08Speaker 2: and one structure his entire career, Like there was so
- 35:12Speaker 2: much routine that came with that. And obviously, again early
- 35:16Speaker 2: starts at the year can be weird. Your team is
- 35:18Speaker 2: like feeling things out, but you knew who your head
- 35:21Speaker 2: coach was, right, You knew where he was going to
- 35:23Speaker 2: stand on the sideline, you knew where every assistant coach
- 35:26Speaker 2: was set up. Like everything was like in the back
- 35:28Speaker 2: of your mind stable. Now it's different, and to me,
- 35:31Speaker 2: it's like for Josh Allen, I'm thirty years old. I
- 35:34Speaker 2: know that the weight of the world is on my
- 35:35Speaker 2: shoulders for this fan base and the city. I know
- 35:38Speaker 2: what the schedule looks like like there is an insurmountable
- 35:41Speaker 2: amount of pressure and if it doesn't pan out well,
- 35:44Speaker 2: then that second stretch is even more brutal because if
- 35:47Speaker 2: you didn't get the luxury of a hot start like
- 35:49Speaker 2: Josh Allen has gotten every season since pretty much twenty nineteen.
- 35:53Speaker 1: That is really tough to.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Go into that slate with those road games, primetime games,
- 35:59Speaker 2: Holliday games and say this team is like three and
- 36:02Speaker 2: five and trying to get back to the top of
- 36:04Speaker 2: the AFC East or trying to settle. And I don't
- 36:06Speaker 2: want to be a doomer because I know people are saying,
- 36:08Speaker 2: you got to look at the other end of it,
- 36:10Speaker 2: and there is equal chance that it ends up being
- 36:13Speaker 2: a tremendous start, that Joe Brady is getting a golden
- 36:16Speaker 2: statue built outside of the stadium, that Jim Leonard is
- 36:19Speaker 2: the second coming of Jim Schwartz, even though it's a
- 36:22Speaker 2: different defense. I'm just thinking of the last great kills. Yeah,
- 36:26Speaker 2: bull gyms both both potential bills dcs this year. By
- 36:29Speaker 2: the way, like that could have easily happened too, but
- 36:31Speaker 2: like there is a very realistic chance that these this
- 36:35Speaker 2: could work out and it could be great to start,
- 36:37Speaker 2: And then I would look at that second stretch and
- 36:39Speaker 2: be like, that's tough, but they have the padding, so
- 36:41Speaker 2: you could go five hundred in that stretch and will
- 36:43Speaker 2: be okay. But that's my thing, Like so much of
- 36:46Speaker 2: your season outlook, your fan outlook on the henges, that
- 36:51Speaker 2: that opening stretch, and that's why I'm just like I
- 36:53Speaker 2: can't look past it and say that the other one
- 36:56Speaker 2: right now for me is as hard, even though they
- 36:58Speaker 2: are objectively tough games, there's more weight to get out
- 37:01Speaker 2: of the gate hot when because this isn't like a rebuilding.
- 37:04Speaker 2: This isn't the Dolphins, Anthony, Like, this isn't Malik Willis
- 37:06Speaker 2: on a two year deal trading away our talent. We
- 37:09Speaker 2: know we're punting it for twenty twenty seven or at
- 37:11Speaker 2: the least like building for the future. This is Joe
- 37:13Speaker 2: Briddy was their attempt at continuity because they didn't want
- 37:16Speaker 2: Sean McDermott there anymore. But like Josh Allen's still there, dude,
- 37:20Speaker 2: Like a lot of this team is the same, so
- 37:22Speaker 2: like you still view it as a team in the
- 37:24Speaker 2: championship window. So they have to get off to a
- 37:26Speaker 2: good start otherwise it's going to be like pandemodium And
- 37:29Speaker 2: I just don't know how how you even like come
- 37:32Speaker 2: out of that if you end up in it, and
- 37:33Speaker 2: I hope they don't.
- 37:35Speaker 1: That is a very good point. See now that sways me.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Now I'm like, oh, I'm going through I'm picking the
- 37:39Speaker 1: I'm picking their own strep. Yeah, that I do think
- 37:41Speaker 1: that's fair. Can you imagine the even just internally, let
- 37:44Speaker 1: alone nationally, But like, again, we all know this. The
- 37:47Speaker 1: Bills didn't reach the mountain top. They didn't get over
- 37:49Speaker 1: that hurdle. You know, these past several years, the goals
- 37:51Speaker 1: to get to the super Bowl and then win the
- 37:52Speaker 1: Super Bowl. They didn't do any of those things, right,
- 37:56Speaker 1: but you knew still going into it year in and
- 37:59Speaker 1: year out, I was like, well, the Bills are probably
- 38:01Speaker 1: gonna win, Like the floor was win the AFC East
- 38:05Speaker 1: and be a final four team in the AFC. Like
- 38:08Speaker 1: if imagine if they don't make the playoffs this year
- 38:11Speaker 1: in some world, like everybody is gonna and then goat
- 38:14Speaker 1: because there's still all this consternation of like wasn't McDermott,
- 38:18Speaker 1: was it Bean? Was it both?
- 38:20Speaker 2: Is it?
- 38:20Speaker 1: Like all these like all these ugly questions and drama
- 38:24Speaker 1: starts coming out. And so I do think that's a
- 38:28Speaker 1: super fair point of the opening stretch is so important
- 38:32Speaker 1: to keep to keep everybody from wanting to burn everything
- 38:36Speaker 1: to the ground. Whether rightly or wrongly, Again, everybody and
- 38:39Speaker 1: everybody could want to burn everything to ground. The Bills
- 38:41Speaker 1: could start out one and four and go on to
- 38:43Speaker 1: win like twelve in a row from there, and everybody
- 38:45Speaker 1: would be like, oh, okay, that's fine. But perception is reality,
- 38:49Speaker 1: and that perception early on from a local standpoint, from
- 38:55Speaker 1: a oh just can you I can just imagine like
- 39:00Speaker 1: the booze raining down in the stadium.
- 39:02Speaker 2: And yeah, it just sounds so you'll really test out
- 39:08Speaker 2: the dynamics and acoustics of that new stadium. If people
- 39:11Speaker 2: are booing loudly, could you imagine that, it's like you're
- 39:14Speaker 2: you're Pagola and you're like the brass of the Bills
- 39:17Speaker 2: and you're looking down and like, again, I'm not trying
- 39:19Speaker 2: to be a doomer. They could be very good to
- 39:21Speaker 2: start the year, so please take it. It's just we're
- 39:23Speaker 2: looking at it from the other end right now, for
- 39:25Speaker 2: any end of the spectrum, anywhere between. It's all conversations.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Fans are absolutely like livid booing, and Pegola is like, man,
- 39:32Speaker 2: it sounds great in here, you guys here, It's it
- 39:35Speaker 2: sounds so good in here, dude, Like I love this stadium.
- 39:38Speaker 2: But no, I I again, I'm not trying to make
- 39:41Speaker 2: people pessimistic or anything. It's more just my justification for
- 39:44Speaker 2: why it's so difficult and why I view it so.
- 39:47Speaker 2: But also, like the Josh Allen aspect of it, to
- 39:50Speaker 2: me is interesting because what if he's locked in? You know,
- 39:53Speaker 2: we always say like he really there's almost like an
- 39:55Speaker 2: inverted bell curve with Alan. He starts out great, he
- 39:58Speaker 2: has a little mid season slump, and then he he
- 40:00Speaker 2: finishes really strong. Most of the time. I would say,
- 40:04Speaker 2: I feel like it wouldn't shock me at a off.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Allen's just cerebral as hell to start the year and
- 40:08Speaker 2: just you know, really takes exception to how last year ended,
- 40:11Speaker 2: and just as nuclear and things are working with the
- 40:14Speaker 2: new offensive coordinator structure or at least like adjusted playbook
- 40:18Speaker 2: to put it in a different way, that could happen
- 40:20Speaker 2: and it could be really fun. I just it's implications.
- 40:23Speaker 2: It's just you, you have to get off to it.
- 40:25Speaker 2: You have to at least be five hundred going to
- 40:27Speaker 2: your bye week. How about that?
- 40:28Speaker 3: That?
- 40:28Speaker 2: To me, I think could qualm some people just given
- 40:31Speaker 2: the circumstances. Like that's kind of where I'm at with that.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I could see one, two, four. Wait, what does cloud
- 40:39Speaker 1: DeRozan mean? I don't know. I saw that too, and
- 40:41Speaker 1: I was like, I don't know.
- 40:42Speaker 2: I want to know what that means.
- 40:44Speaker 1: There's because there's the opening six games, right, imagine if
- 40:48Speaker 1: they only win I don't know whoever, So say they're
- 40:51Speaker 1: two and four going into the buy and then they
- 40:54Speaker 1: come out of the by and the Ravens are just
- 40:56Speaker 1: housing them in Buffalo like I can just yeah, the
- 40:58Speaker 1: acoustics of those movies. I wanted to leave this up
- 41:01Speaker 1: from Charles who asked. He said, we going over or
- 41:05Speaker 1: under ten and a half wins? I answered in the chat,
- 41:08Speaker 1: I think eleven is like the on the money dot.
- 41:11Speaker 1: I think it's kind of the ceiling and also the
- 41:14Speaker 1: most realistic win total. Again, as of now, we don't know.
- 41:18Speaker 1: For all we know the Bills, their schedule. They maybe
- 41:22Speaker 1: Lamar goes down, Jordan Love goes down, like you don't know,
- 41:25Speaker 1: like the back end of schedule kind of being super easy.
- 41:28Speaker 1: I think eleven wins is likely for this team. I
- 41:32Speaker 1: trust Leonard. I have more questions about the seat. I
- 41:36Speaker 1: don't have the questions about the floor of the Bills
- 41:40Speaker 1: this year. I have more questions about the ceiling, Like,
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'm very confident in them being like, okay, double digit
- 41:46Speaker 1: wins get to the playoffs. I'm less confident in them
- 41:49Speaker 1: being able to fight fire with fire and get over
- 41:51Speaker 1: the hump once again. But I think eleven wins is
- 41:54Speaker 1: very realistic and doable. So for me, I think the oh,
- 41:56Speaker 1: I would take the over. I would smash it at eleven.
- 41:58Speaker 1: What do you think you take over under? I'm gonna
- 42:02Speaker 1: say over because I have no reason to believe, not.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Just because again, like for all my comments about the concerns,
- 42:09Speaker 2: that doesn't mean it's reality. And Josh Allen has been
- 42:12Speaker 2: a stabilizing force for this team. You know, if you
- 42:14Speaker 2: were asking me, who do you think is more important
- 42:16Speaker 2: to this team's success over the past eight years, Like,
- 42:20Speaker 2: I'm gonna say Josh Allen more than Sean McDermott, just
- 42:22Speaker 2: because the franchise quarterback component, you know. And I don't
- 42:25Speaker 2: want to make it sound like Sean McDermott was a
- 42:26Speaker 2: bad coach. It's just Josh Allen has really saved your
- 42:29Speaker 2: ass a lot of times. For all the silly plays,
- 42:32Speaker 2: is also wonderful plays that he has been able to
- 42:34Speaker 2: kind of bring a team out from the depths of Hell,
- 42:37Speaker 2: to which I'd say, when you have him, you have
- 42:40Speaker 2: the justification that you can hit that over. I will
- 42:42Speaker 2: also say this, like I could see a world where
- 42:45Speaker 2: this team comes out of the gate hot, and if
- 42:47Speaker 2: they do, I'm giving them twelve Like I'm giving them
- 42:49Speaker 2: a comfortable twelve wins because that if you can handle
- 42:52Speaker 2: that guant with the start of the year, you can
- 42:54Speaker 2: handle anybody. I don't care if it's early in the season.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Like that, to me is playoff matchups really tough teams,
- 43:00Speaker 2: blue chip talent on both sides of the ball for
- 43:02Speaker 2: everyone you face. You start the season four and one,
- 43:04Speaker 2: you know, you get to that Ravens game and you
- 43:06Speaker 2: win it four and two or anything like that. I
- 43:09Speaker 2: can easily see this team clipping twelve to thirteen wins comfortably.
- 43:12Speaker 2: And then it's just the same questions you have of well,
- 43:14Speaker 2: now we have the new coaching staff, this team is good?
- 43:17Speaker 2: Is this the difference? Is this like the John Gruden
- 43:20Speaker 2: type of thing where like, you know, they move on
- 43:22Speaker 2: from Dungee, they bring in Gruden. He has largely the
- 43:25Speaker 2: same structure, but they actually end up winning the Super Bowl.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Like again, that's optimistic. Rose colored glasses.
- 43:29Speaker 2: But we've seen that happen, so like there is that
- 43:32Speaker 2: reality that just no one knows what the Bills look
- 43:34Speaker 2: like this year, not even the Bills. That could be
- 43:36Speaker 2: a good thing and that could get them to and over.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Yeah, there's literally what's exciting about this season and terrifying
- 43:42Speaker 1: is that there's a multitude of outcomes, good and bad
- 43:45Speaker 1: and everywhere in between. The lowest of low is the
- 43:47Speaker 1: highest of highest multitude of things in between. Yeah, I
- 43:50Speaker 1: just think if we're looking at it, like again, I'm
- 43:52Speaker 1: very superstitious and I'm not trying to chink anything, but
- 43:54Speaker 1: I mean I think you take both from the Jets,
- 43:56Speaker 1: You take both from the Dolphins. That's four wins right there.
- 44:00Speaker 1: You take the Raiders game, that's five wins. I'll just
- 44:03Speaker 1: be pessimistic. You split with the Patriots. That's six wins
- 44:08Speaker 1: right there, Like, like, that's six wins already. And then
- 44:11Speaker 1: you're looking at like the coin flip games again worst
- 44:14Speaker 1: case scenario or playing the pessimistic odds. Then you're looking
- 44:16Speaker 1: at the coin flip games of like Texans, Lions, Chargers, Rams,
- 44:21Speaker 1: Like I think Vikings is also a very winnable game.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Bears is a winnable game, though it's hard, I would
- 44:28Speaker 1: expect them to beat the Chargers. I'm also a big
- 44:32Speaker 1: believer in I don't know if this is still too
- 44:34Speaker 1: old school for anybody, I'm a big believer in the
- 44:36Speaker 1: whole like West Coast teams having to come east to
- 44:39Speaker 1: play games, and so like the Chargers coming here and
- 44:41Speaker 1: having to play a Sunday one o'clock game. I think
- 44:44Speaker 1: like his advantage bills big time, and just some other
- 44:47Speaker 1: things with their team in general. But yeah, so I
- 44:50Speaker 1: even if like I'm being conservative, like right now, I
- 44:52Speaker 1: feel like I can already map out six or seven wins,
- 44:55Speaker 1: and that's even before getting to like the well toss
- 44:59Speaker 1: up games. So yeah, I feel decently comfortable with that
- 45:04Speaker 1: eleven last segment here. Overall general likes, dislikes, concerns, things
- 45:11Speaker 1: we haven't touched on, things we may not have pointed
- 45:15Speaker 1: out from a positive standpoint, a negative standpoint, something that's
- 45:19Speaker 1: really worrying about or or kind of on the forefront
- 45:21Speaker 1: of your mind. Anything in general. Likes, dislikes, concerns, or
- 45:25Speaker 1: any type of superlative in any way here.
- 45:29Speaker 2: I think we touched upon a lot of where I
- 45:31Speaker 2: was concerned. I would say some of these games I'm
- 45:35Speaker 2: just objectively really excited for no matter what the matchup is.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Like I freaking love when the Bills play the Packers.
- 45:41Speaker 2: I love when the Bills play the NFC North, Like
- 45:43Speaker 2: I think that's just so cool because it never happens.
- 45:45Speaker 2: It's like the once in every four years going and
- 45:47Speaker 2: then eventually now with the new NFL scheduling, you get
- 45:50Speaker 2: that one team. But like, it's so cool that we're
- 45:52Speaker 2: going back to Minnesota where the hurdle happened and we
- 45:55Speaker 2: haven't seen Josh Allen played there since twenty eighteen, and
- 45:59Speaker 2: like I'll never get where I was because like I was,
- 46:02Speaker 2: I was that season was like such a wash for me.
- 46:05Speaker 2: I was like not even bothering. I was like, all right,
- 46:07Speaker 2: you know what, man, Like I'll keep up with that
- 46:09Speaker 2: on my phone, but I gotta run errands. And I
- 46:10Speaker 2: remember where I was when Josh Allen had the hurdle,
- 46:12Speaker 2: and like that's a moment where I'm like, we're going
- 46:14Speaker 2: back to where that happened.
- 46:15Speaker 1: That's cool.
- 46:17Speaker 2: I'm so excited to go to Lambeau, like and hopefully
- 46:19Speaker 2: Josh gets vindicated for the last time or gets revenge
- 46:22Speaker 2: for the last time he was there because that was
- 46:24Speaker 2: rookie Josh and it was ugly. Like now he gets
- 46:27Speaker 2: to go back to Lambeau as like this MVP, Like
- 46:29Speaker 2: now is it year nine for Josh or is it
- 46:32Speaker 2: year eight? I always get this year one was twenty
- 46:36Speaker 2: twenty eighteen.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Yeah, so eighteen nineteen, twenty twenty one, twenty two, twenty three,
- 46:41Speaker 1: twenty four, twenty five, twenty this is year nine.
- 46:43Speaker 2: That's insane, that's that's horrifying to think about. But year
- 46:46Speaker 2: nine Josh Allen going back to where he was as
- 46:48Speaker 2: a rookie to like get these games and hopefully win
- 46:51Speaker 2: on the road there because Lambeau is one of the
- 46:53Speaker 2: stadiums he hasn't won. And yet you know, I'm a
- 46:55Speaker 2: big fan of the individual matchups, no matter how difficult
- 46:58Speaker 2: they are, because I just think, like some of these
- 47:00Speaker 2: teams are the teams I love to watch on like
- 47:03Speaker 2: a Sunday objectively, like I love what the Packers do
- 47:05Speaker 2: it before I think the Bears are so much fun.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I love Caleb Williams. I will defend Caleb Williams with
- 47:11Speaker 2: my life. I know last year was like very twenty
- 47:13Speaker 2: nineteen Josh Allen coded in the sense that he made
- 47:16Speaker 2: all these wow plays and also missed so many easy throws,
- 47:20Speaker 2: but the throws that he made were so cool that
- 47:22Speaker 2: you just have to say, hell yeah, Caleb, like yeah
- 47:24Speaker 2: that It's It's like the dude who strikes.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Out like four times a game, but then like hits
- 47:29Speaker 1: that home run that's like four hundred and forty feet
- 47:31Speaker 1: and you're like.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, he's He's Jung Carlos Stanton right now, like
- 47:35Speaker 2: he except he stays healthy, knock onlob. He just it's like,
- 47:39Speaker 2: will he swing at the ugliest pitch you've ever seen
- 47:41Speaker 2: in your life? Yes? Will he also when he makes
- 47:43Speaker 2: contact hit something five oh one or like have a
- 47:45Speaker 2: one twenty exit elo, Hell yeah he will. Caleb rules,
- 47:48Speaker 2: the NFC North rules, It's a tough division. I'm hype
- 47:51Speaker 2: for it. And then like as far as like anything
- 47:54Speaker 2: else or concerns, like I said, we touched on it,
- 47:56Speaker 2: but like that Raiders game is very interesting to me.
- 47:59Speaker 2: I'm not sleeping on them at all. I don't know
- 48:02Speaker 2: why people have choked this up to an auto win.
- 48:04Speaker 2: I get it, but like, dude, if Kirk is healthy,
- 48:07Speaker 2: I know that this is going to sound like people
- 48:09Speaker 2: think I'm being too much of a doomer. But I
- 48:10Speaker 2: promise you healthy Kirk Cousins is not bad. I think
- 48:12Speaker 2: we've just wrote them off entirely because of the Achilles injury.
- 48:15Speaker 2: But he came back last year and played like a
- 48:17Speaker 2: pretty good stretch of football close out the year in Atlanta.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Like you're telling me healthy Kirk if it's not Mendoza
- 48:23Speaker 2: to start in a Kubiak offense that has Brock Bowers
- 48:26Speaker 2: Ashton gent like rebuilt speed threats vertically, which is what
- 48:30Speaker 2: Kubiak wants. I am not saying that the Bills are
- 48:33Speaker 2: going to lose that game, but when you have to
- 48:35Speaker 2: go on the road to Vegas to play in hostile
- 48:37Speaker 2: territory with the team that's really like youthful and enthused,
- 48:41Speaker 2: that to me is like the quote unquote trap game
- 48:43Speaker 2: that I'm just I'm not sleeping on it.
- 48:45Speaker 1: I'm not saying the Bills are going.
- 48:46Speaker 2: To lose it, but it's one that I'm not looking
- 48:47Speaker 2: as like this like they're just gonna go in there
- 48:50Speaker 2: blow them out.
- 48:51Speaker 1: They could, just I can't. I can't get on board
- 48:57Speaker 1: fully yet until I need I need some team at
- 49:00Speaker 1: some point to have a real defense, and I know
- 49:03Speaker 1: they made a bunch of editions this year. They got
- 49:05Speaker 1: Quitty Pay, they got Kway Walker, They recruated the Georgia
- 49:08Speaker 1: Linebacker Corps. They have Kuai Walker and n Kobe Dane
- 49:10Speaker 1: on the ands.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Comes back too. I think right, he was like hurt
- 49:13Speaker 2: last year, and I think he got healthy. Malcolm koons
- 49:16Speaker 2: Uh no he or did he leave? I thought he.
- 49:18Speaker 2: I thought he resigned for like a year.
- 49:21Speaker 1: He may have. I thought I thought he went somewhere
- 49:23Speaker 1: else because I remember people saying like, oh, the Bill
- 49:25Speaker 1: should take the Bill should take him. Uh. They have
- 49:27Speaker 1: Bill's legen, Bill's Bill's offseason desire legend. Jeremy Chin on
- 49:32Speaker 1: my team as well, But I just their corn I
- 49:35Speaker 1: don't have faith in their corners. And then I know
- 49:37Speaker 1: they have speed at receiver. But like, I'm not scared
- 49:39Speaker 1: of Jack Besh and Trey Tucker and Jamie Nal for
- 49:43Speaker 1: top three, although Bouers like is sick. Like I think
- 49:46Speaker 1: the Raiders. I think the Raiders are on the cusp
- 49:49Speaker 1: of like this is the off season where they started
- 49:52Speaker 1: to build the foundation and grow. But if you are
- 49:55Speaker 1: a playoff contender and championship hopeful, you should beat the Raiders.
- 50:03Speaker 1: And so yes, absolutely, Bills don't beat the Raiders. That
- 50:06Speaker 1: tells me more about the Bills than it does the Raiders. Right,
- 50:09Speaker 1: That tells me the Bills are behind schedule and more
- 50:12Speaker 1: so than the Raiders are. Like on, Yeah, it tells
- 50:16Speaker 1: me one of the Bills. The Bills are falling off
- 50:17Speaker 1: more so than the Raiders are on schedule.
- 50:20Speaker 2: You want to know where it comes from, Anthony. It
- 50:21Speaker 2: comes from that twenty fourteen road game against Derek Carr
- 50:24Speaker 2: and the two and fourteen Raiders. That's where it comes from.
- 50:26Speaker 2: I think, I'm I think, I just I'm projecting because
- 50:28Speaker 2: I have so much PTSD from that game being the
- 50:31Speaker 2: literal reason they didn't go to the playoffs that year
- 50:33Speaker 2: with Moron and the cold Front. And I'm like, I
- 50:36Speaker 2: will never trust the Road Raiders game for as long
- 50:38Speaker 2: as I live. I just can't. It's it's I won't refuse.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm in a I think the biggest thing for me.
- 50:46Speaker 1: Charles mentioned it earlier. Charles, where was your comment? I
- 50:50Speaker 1: told myself to start it and I did not. Charles
- 50:54Speaker 1: mentioned that the Bills have the bye week before playing
- 50:56Speaker 1: the Ravens. No teams are playing the Bills off of
- 50:58Speaker 1: bye and that ties into the overall net you know
- 51:03Speaker 1: rest differential, which is, you know, essentially like the sum
- 51:05Speaker 1: of your net rest days versus opponents across the entire
- 51:08Speaker 1: regular season. The Bills are second in the entire league
- 51:12Speaker 1: in net rest differential at plus fourteen, The Bears are
- 51:16Speaker 1: one at plus fifteen, Bills are second and plus fourteen,
- 51:18Speaker 1: and the Cowboys are third at plus eleven and a half.
- 51:21Speaker 1: So I do I love this idea that no teams
- 51:24Speaker 1: are coming off of bye to play the Bills. It
- 51:26Speaker 1: always felt like too a lot of times, like the
- 51:28Speaker 1: Chiefs would be coming off a bye to play the Bills.
- 51:31Speaker 1: So I do think, you know, from the rest differential standpoint,
- 51:34Speaker 1: I like that for the Bills. I like the teams
- 51:36Speaker 1: aren't coming off of bye and playing into the Bills.
- 51:38Speaker 1: I do like that some of their bigger games, Like
- 51:40Speaker 1: you have the Ravens, You're coming off that bye week,
- 51:43Speaker 1: you're at New England, but you have ten days to
- 51:46Speaker 1: prepare because you're playing the Chiefs on Thanksgiving on a Thursday.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Game before that and then before the Chiefs is the Dolphins,
- 51:52Speaker 1: so like you have a way to kind of ease
- 51:53Speaker 1: into that a little bit. I also like potentially how
- 51:57Speaker 1: the season ends. Again, not overlooking or writing anybody off,
- 52:00Speaker 1: but if you are the Bills making a push for
- 52:05Speaker 1: the playoffs Week seventeen at Miami, Week eighteen home against
- 52:09Speaker 1: the Jets, maybe an opportunity to rest some guys going
- 52:12Speaker 1: into a wildcard round, or maybe you get the one
- 52:15Speaker 1: seed this year and you get an extra opportunity for
- 52:17Speaker 1: some rest. I like the idea to know that, Okay,
- 52:19Speaker 1: like we can potentially get creative with some rest games
- 52:23Speaker 1: here in seventeen and eighteen, depending on what what it
- 52:26Speaker 1: looks like for us and what the Dolphins end up
- 52:28Speaker 1: being and what the Jets end up being. So I
- 52:30Speaker 1: do think there's like some silver lining niceties throughout this schedule.
- 52:35Speaker 1: Noah comes in and says, the Texans in Week one
- 52:37Speaker 1: is a bat That's funny.
- 52:39Speaker 2: And I was at work when that got announced, when
- 52:41Speaker 2: the league came out, and I just dropped my phone
- 52:43Speaker 2: and said, fuck, Like I knew that's such a I
- 52:47Speaker 2: hate that it's accidentally.
- 52:50Speaker 1: Meaning myself, Yeah, that's such a I mean, but you
- 52:53Speaker 1: could make the case for it too, Like the Texans
- 52:54Speaker 1: might be like, oh, we gotta play the Bills week one,
- 52:57Speaker 1: Like oh, I yeah, the Tech defense is one of
- 53:01Speaker 1: my you know, from last year, one of my favorite
- 53:03Speaker 1: units to watch. I echo a lot of your sentiments,
- 53:05Speaker 1: like they play a lot of teams that I just
- 53:06Speaker 1: find cool that I've been watching for with a fair
- 53:09Speaker 1: amount of regularity over the years, like I've been I've
- 53:12Speaker 1: watched so much Texans offense and defense the past, like
- 53:14Speaker 1: two three seasons. I watched a bunch of Lions, especially
- 53:18Speaker 1: when they had Ben Johnson. I watched a bunch of Chargers.
- 53:21Speaker 1: I watched a ton of Rams. I watched a ton
- 53:23Speaker 1: of Ravens. I watch a ton of Brian Flores and
- 53:26Speaker 1: what the Vikings do defensively. I love the Packers offense
- 53:30Speaker 1: and Lafleur. I love that run game. I love all
- 53:32Speaker 1: the spinner stuff. I love how good Josh Jacobs is
- 53:35Speaker 1: at running duo. I'm interested to see what happens with
- 53:38Speaker 1: the receivers. You know, the change in the receiver room
- 53:40Speaker 1: this year. No Dubbs Golden needs to step up, Wicks
- 53:44Speaker 1: has gone, Tucker Craft is coming off in ACL. I
- 53:47Speaker 1: think Tucker Craft has a very good case to plant
- 53:50Speaker 1: his flag as the best overall tight end in the
- 53:53Speaker 1: entire NFL when it comes from receiving and blocking standpoint
- 53:57Speaker 1: in terms of what you can do with him as
- 53:58Speaker 1: a pass catcher and as an line guy. And then
- 54:01Speaker 1: Bears is always cool, like I'm down to watch Kayleb
- 54:04Speaker 1: Williams do some Kayleb Williams stuff on a Saturday night.
- 54:07Speaker 1: Ben Jons, Yeah, maybe DJ more revenge game. Maybe Ben
- 54:12Speaker 1: Johnson revenge game of being like I'm gonna show everybody
- 54:14Speaker 1: that we didn't need this guy. This is gonna be
- 54:16Speaker 1: a Luther Burden like ten catches one hundred and seventy
- 54:18Speaker 1: yards type of game or something crazy like that. Yeah.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I just think there's a lot of a lot of
- 54:24Speaker 1: fun things for me individually, and I just fun games
- 54:29Speaker 1: that matter. Like this is a tough strength of schedule,
- 54:32Speaker 1: but again based on last year, but what it feels
- 54:34Speaker 1: like week after week, there's really not a lot of
- 54:38Speaker 1: like and again maybe some fans would like the cakewalk
- 54:41Speaker 1: game so you can have easy wins chalked up, but
- 54:44Speaker 1: each week is very much like kind of playoff feeling,
- 54:48Speaker 1: like where it's just like, oh, like, who do the
- 54:50Speaker 1: Bills play this week? And then you tell them and
- 54:52Speaker 1: you're like, oh, they play this team, and you're like, oh,
- 54:54Speaker 1: what a game like that, there's just a lot of
- 54:55Speaker 1: good football game, So I feel like this is a
- 54:57Speaker 1: fun schedule, a good schedule, And then I do think
- 55:01Speaker 1: there are some like little advantages for the Bills baked
- 55:03Speaker 1: in in a variety of ways, although again we'll see
- 55:07Speaker 1: like injuries play apart, the other teams play apart, who's
- 55:11Speaker 1: getting into rhythm, who's not, so on and so forth. Oh,
- 55:14Speaker 1: I wanted to get to this.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Real real quick, and I'm glad you brought it up
- 55:19Speaker 2: because the rest component was something I forgot to mention.
- 55:21Speaker 2: That is a huge factor too. I mean, the fact
- 55:24Speaker 2: that you're not dealing with a bunch of teams coming
- 55:26Speaker 2: off their bye weeks really does help with these tougher matchups,
- 55:28Speaker 2: especially because the Bills have so many like short turnaround games.
- 55:32Speaker 2: It would be just genuinely brutal if they had to
- 55:34Speaker 2: play like three of those Saturday, Friday, Thursday whatever games
- 55:38Speaker 2: and all those teams were coming off of bye or
- 55:40Speaker 2: just the rest advantage, so that part really really helps too,
- 55:43Speaker 2: And I'm happy they have that because that made me
- 55:45Speaker 2: feel a little bit better and like it's it's tough,
- 55:48Speaker 2: but at the same time, these games are just tough games.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I'm not saying they're losses, like it's just going to
- 55:53Speaker 2: be stressful to watch, but very real world where like
- 55:57Speaker 2: the tough matchups have a rewarding endings, which we've seen
- 55:59Speaker 2: a lot from this team really in Josh Allen's prime.
- 56:01Speaker 2: So that's fine by me if they have to have
- 56:04Speaker 2: one sweat but they still win it.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's why I didn't give about that guy's
- 56:08Speaker 1: common earlier as it which your cry babies, because because
- 56:10Speaker 1: we're saying the Bills play good teams, I don't like
- 56:13Speaker 1: we never said like the Bills are screwed, Bills are
- 56:15Speaker 1: only gonna win four games. Oh man. Yeah, there's a
- 56:18Speaker 1: lot of there's so much like Ends of the Way,
- 56:21Speaker 1: the pendulum swings and different aspects.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:24Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be fun. It's either it's either
- 56:27Speaker 1: gonna be a really fun season in a good way
- 56:29Speaker 1: or really fun season in a disaster yeah type of way.
- 56:33Speaker 1: I want to grab this question from Sean. I thought
- 56:35Speaker 1: this was really good. Sean says, what teams might have
- 56:38Speaker 1: lower expectations going into the season, but might have matchups
- 56:42Speaker 1: that could give the Bills problems. I'm so not from
- 56:47Speaker 1: necessarily from a matchup standpoint, and I know I chalked
- 56:50Speaker 1: them up as both wins earlier.
- 56:53Speaker 2: I think the.
- 56:53Speaker 1: Jets could be better than people are giving them credit for.
- 56:56Speaker 1: And I think the Bills should and will win both
- 56:59Speaker 1: of those games. But if you told me the Bills
- 57:01Speaker 1: were like sweating it out and only won by like
- 57:04Speaker 1: three to seven points each time, yeah, I would be like, oh,
- 57:07Speaker 1: that actually kind of makes sense. Like I think that
- 57:10Speaker 1: I thought the Patriots would make the playoffs last year.
- 57:12Speaker 1: I didn't think they'd do what they did. I thought
- 57:13Speaker 1: the Patriots were more like a nine to ten maybe
- 57:16Speaker 1: eleven win team if everything fell right. But I think
- 57:20Speaker 1: I think the Jets could be a lesser version of
- 57:23Speaker 1: that Patriots team this year, where the Jets are a
- 57:25Speaker 1: team that win seven or eight games, maybe nine, or
- 57:29Speaker 1: are like a pain in the butt to play every
- 57:31Speaker 1: week like they I thought they drafted well. I thought
- 57:34Speaker 1: they had a lot of good free agency acquisitions, even
- 57:36Speaker 1: like the Enigbarring and David Anyamata editions.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Yeah, two free agents that you guys cut up clips for.
- 57:42Speaker 1: YEP. I love Anya Mada was one of my favorite
- 57:45Speaker 1: guys this year, Like in the entire year. I wanted
- 57:47Speaker 1: him so much. I think so. I think the Jets
- 57:51Speaker 1: could be better. The Vikings are won, I think from
- 57:54Speaker 1: a matchup standpoint, and you know, again, expectations are relative, right.
- 58:00Speaker 1: I don't know how people are nationally reviewing the Vikings,
- 58:03Speaker 1: especially with the whole quarterback situation and like Kyler going
- 58:05Speaker 1: in there and you're just like, okay, you know, are
- 58:09Speaker 1: the Vikings are pushover? Are the Vikings dead in the water?
- 58:13Speaker 1: But I think I think Kyler Murray's a better quarterback
- 58:16Speaker 1: than he gets credit for. And that Flores defense. If
- 58:19Speaker 1: the Bills aren't able to have consistent threats at wide
- 58:24Speaker 1: receiver from a pass catching standpoint, Flores is just going
- 58:27Speaker 1: to play the face melter five thousand defense and be like,
- 58:30Speaker 1: guess guess what, blitz blitz blitz um blitzing everybody and
- 58:33Speaker 1: their mother every time. Yeah, good luck finding somebody open
- 58:36Speaker 1: if you can't. And I think that's a good one.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:40Speaker 1: Again, so from a team that have lower expectations, I
- 58:43Speaker 1: do like this comment from Charles says the Bears if
- 58:45Speaker 1: they run the rock like they're capable of, plus they
- 58:47Speaker 1: have scary weapons, I just think the expectations are higher
- 58:49Speaker 1: for the Bears. Bears were a final four team in
- 58:51Speaker 1: the NFC. They could have easily beaten the Rams, so
- 58:56Speaker 1: I think the expectations are higher. But that's another one.
- 58:58Speaker 1: I'll blank at this comment from Charles or piggyback on it.
- 59:02Speaker 1: Any team that has an offense that can run the football,
- 59:04Speaker 1: well I am going to be worried about. And I
- 59:08Speaker 1: think could be a potential, uh matchup problem in some way,
- 59:11Speaker 1: shape or form. Uh yeah, I just think that. Uh
- 59:16Speaker 1: man that And hold on, I want to grab this
- 59:17Speaker 1: too from this comment. Do Damien ayr Mada is old? Okay?
- 59:24Speaker 1: And you said, who did the Jets have on the
- 59:27Speaker 1: d line? David Amada to Andre Sweat, Harrison Phillips, They
- 59:31Speaker 1: drafted David Bailey and then they also signed kingsleyan bare Like.
- 59:37Speaker 1: I think that's a pretty yeah, Joseph I was saying.
- 59:42Speaker 1: And then they also play like Osai and McDonald or
- 59:44Speaker 1: like they're outside linebackers. Those dwoes are gonna rush off
- 59:47Speaker 1: the edge as well. So you're looking at McDonald, Osai Bailey,
- 59:51Speaker 1: and Harrison Phillips to Andandre Sweat, David on Yamada like
- 59:55Speaker 1: there there's vulnerabilities there, but those are those are some
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: good dudes. But yeah, I.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Look at the Jets and I see a team that raised. Therefore,
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: I personally, just given the nature of their roster, I
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: think there's a lot of unproven components or components that
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: aren't fully completed but have added talent. So it's why
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: I won't say that I think they'll finish as a
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: playoff team. Maybe they could. You know, anything could happen,
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: so I don't want to, you know, like rule it
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: out entirely because we've seen crazier things happen. But I
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: think the thing for the Jets that a lot of
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: people tend to sleep on that I don't think we
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: should is their offensive line and the development of their
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: tackles because they've had numerous blue chip tackle picks. Fashanu
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: and Membu are very good players, and now in year
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: two and three for each you're talking about the sides
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: of either side of their offensive line, the outside of
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: their offensive line being more fortified. I do really like
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: the addition to Parum, even though I know the wine
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: he was on last year struggled a bit, But to me,
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: it's like, I think They're defensive line has developed really
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: nicely each year. I think there's only one direction that
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: team could possibly go after last year, which and my takers,
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: I think last year's Jets team was the worst team ever.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: It was the worst team ever. I think that team
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: was actually worse than the oh and sixteen Lions and
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: the Owen sixteen Browns. Me I know, I'm dead serious.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: And the funniest part is they had one of the
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: best special team unit ever yet. But I don't even care.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: You cannot have no interceptions in a season with an
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: extra game. You can't. I'm sorry. That is like, is crazy.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: That's do you know how hard that is to do?
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: That's actually difficult. They had like five passes hit dB
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: chests and they fell to the ground. They mitched, Trubisky
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: spotted them two interceptions in the final week, and they
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: still dropped them like that was the worst team ever.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: I know that's probably not objectively true, but in my
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: heart it's true. So there was only one direction that
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: they could go, and it's up. And they've added talent.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: They've built the four of their defensive line. You talked
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: about Onyamada, uh Osai and a bar. I think Will
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: McDonald is over hated. I think he's a perfectly good
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: pass rusher. He's just not a blue chip guy in
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: my opinion, but if you.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Asked, and he's undersize from a run perspective, but he's fun.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: I mean, he's a slasher and he's a juice guy.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: So yeah, dude, he's a pure pass much guy.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: So I think they could give the Bills a bit
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: more fits their secondary with Mika. Fitzpatrick added, I'm curious
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: what that looks like drafting di'angelo Pond's. You know, he's
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: he's a bit undersized, but like I personally think when
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: we look at like the Marcus Jones of the world,
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: it's possible for a guy of his stature to have
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: a successful NFL career or like Jabrill Peppers, those kinds
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: of guys. It's a tough team.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: But when you taught it and they brought in to
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Mario Davis, who I know is old but is still
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: a good football player and good at getting show, I did.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: I kept laughing.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Sorry you did hear me. But each time you said
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: there's only one direction that I every time you said it,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: I was like Harry Styles and you didn't. I was
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: trying to make one direction jokes.
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: I'm I unfortunately, was one of those people that like
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: when they were in their heyday. I was like, oh,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: this music's bad, now listen to him.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: No, I've never I've never listened to anything. I just
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: know Harry Styles is in one direction. And that's yes.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: It was Harry Styles and Harry Styles good buddies. That
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: it's yeah.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: And they were they were like a games They were
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: like a game show group, right that like so X Factor.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: They were a group formulated by Simon Cowell at least
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: But anyway, I was, I was gonna say you immediately,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: Brad that off. I was like, are you sure you
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: don't just really like one direction?
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Listen, don't look for the posters and uh in my apartment.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: But anyways, he quickly turns off his camera to go
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: like take memori.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: Get my Harry Styles shrine taken down everywhere. But with yeah,
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: you mentioned yeah, so you mentioned the vikings, and the
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: vikings were to me the one I was going to
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: point out because I think last year we saw kind
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: of a regression with Josh Allen in the pocket as
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: far as his protections go, as far as his ability
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: to evade pressure, and I do think that wasn't all
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: entirely on him. I think the offensive I went back
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: and rewatched a lot of Bills games from this past year,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: and I actually kind of changed my tune on the
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: pass protection from last year. I didn't think it was great.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: I thought it was actually underwhelming and very critical moments
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: of a lot of games against like mediocre to okay
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: pass rushes, to a point where I was like, I'm
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: feeling a little more comfortable with the turning of the
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: guard or the changing of the guard from Chromer to Meyer,
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: not because I love Aaron Kromer, but really more of
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: like it felt like teams were beginning to solve them
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: a bit more.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: Last year, Austin stayed on yes his assistance, so I
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: think that helps for some.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: And I was so happy about that because I think,
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: like I still wanted continuity with Chromer gone, to have
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: something there. So I'm just saying, like, I feel like
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: last year Josh Allen was taking a lot more pressure,
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: taking a lot more sacks. Minnesota's m O is sending
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: the hounds, It's sending the absolute kitchen sink at you.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: And now, even though I think that roster has bits
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: and pieces missing, you know, you talk about and Ginkle,
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: who is a proven pass rusher, played in Miami knows
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: the Bills well. You talk about the additions on their
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: d line, but for me, it's Caleb Banks. And I
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: know people viewed him as like a boomer bust guy,
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: but I think a healthy Caleb Banks is going to
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: be one of the best pass rushing interior defensive linemen,
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: at least for rookies, but eventually in football.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: I just believe in the juice he plays with.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: I know the pad level is a concern, but to me,
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: I think padd level can be corrected, and with someone
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: has that much strength and explosiveness, I think they can
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: be a little bit clumsy and it's okay because ultimately
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: that just proves to me that they're playing with the
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: gear that's so ramped up that they're creating a ton
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: of havoc and chaos on the line. I fear about
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: the interior and the unproven nature of the left guard
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: position for the Bills right now, that that part of
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: it could.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Be a bit of a struggle.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: I just think Minnesota's scheme could pose issues if Josh
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: Allen's pocket presence or pocket evasion stays on the course
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: of last season. If it goes back to the normal
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: level of like Josh's evading sacks, he's not taking as
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: much pressure, he's not geting hit as much, and he's
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: able to mitigate and be good, then so be it.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: But that is a really interesting test for that narrative
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: and seeing how Brian Fores decides to match up with
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: the Bills offensive line where he's sending the numbers and
- 1:06:12Speaker 2: he's sending them from different looks, and he's mixing things
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: up in his coverage. To have dbi's come in at
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: the excuse me at the last second, and the vacancy
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: is on your offensive line where you didn't account for
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: that guy. Is something that I think Josh Allen has
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: struggled with in the past when it comes to secondary
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: blitzes and picking that up correctly in critical spots. I'm
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: not saying he's bad at it, just really things I've
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: noticed from him. That's a huge test, and it's on
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: the road in Minnesota. So that's a really interesting matchup
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: for me when we talk about the team mid expectations.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: But that's a game I could see the Bill's winning,
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: just because again we talked about Kyler, and Kyler could
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: be fun. I'm not as high on him. I think
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: Kyler's had plenty of opportunity to prove himself as like
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: a top flight quarterback, and he's really been more like
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: propped up from his fantasy numbers than I think he
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: has as his individual talent in the league post ac
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: And again, like I view it as this is I
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: think he's.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: I think I think he's a consistent, like top twelve
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: to sixteen quarterback from that standpoint if he's good, which
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: is fine, Like you can win a super Bowl with
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: a guy like that.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: And and to his credit, I did not think Drew
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: Petsing was a good match with him at all. That's
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: just not that's not Kyler is a guy that needs
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: to be able to have to take a deep drop,
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: play with a lot of misdirection and play action and
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: not be in such a static place like Drew Petsing
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: with Jared Goff. I think that's awesome. Like, I think
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: that's gonna work out really well for them. Ie Theamrey's
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: a peacock.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: You gotta let him spread his wings and fly.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: That's yeah. So I mean, like a more movement based
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: system for him because you have to account for the
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: size factor I think will help him and it could
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: work out. But I just need to see that. So
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: that's why I think the Bills could be fine in
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: this game. But that pressure component's really what I'm watching
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: for in the team that we were just talking about.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: Expectation wise, could could present problems. It could be a
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: closer game than we think. I think that's a good point. Yeah,
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: I'm I I have a lot of those sentiments. I
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: started this comment because I wanted us to answer this
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: is good.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Mike says, given the schedule, what is an acceptable record
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: over the first six games going into the week seven
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: by I'm going to say I think three and three
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: is fine. I'm hoping for foreign and two. I think
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: four and two is a happy ceiling or a realistic ceiling.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I expect them to beat the Chargers, beat the Patriots,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: and beat the Raiders. The toss up games quote unquote
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: would be Rams, Lions, Texans just in that nature. So
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna say I think three and three would be acceptable.
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: I'm really hoping for more of four and two. Yeah, acceptable,
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: four and two dream undefeated. I think that this team
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: has been in that range of like five to one,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: four and two for pretty much what since twenty nineteen.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: I think that's been like Theirs, like consistent early season
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: records start, they very rarely are in like five hundred tier.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: So I would give them four and two as like
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: a Okay, this feels normal. This is an outlandish Maybe
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: the games are ugly at points, but like this team's
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: above five hundred, we've got two games in hand. Get
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: healthy before or at least get rest before Baltimore. Like,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: that's fine by me. I can accept three and three.
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: I don't think the fans will accept three and three. No,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: I do not think the fan base will be happy
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: if this is a five hundred team, just because again,
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: like what we're used to versus what it becomes potentially
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: with a new coaching staff. You don't give grace to
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: Joe Brady if he gets off to a slow start
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: because you haven't seen him prove otherwise, whereas McDermott, if
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: he was three and three, you could be like, hey,
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: we've seen him turn this around. I can buy into
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: the fact that this is just a weird year. This
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: is like you'd want to see them have that extra
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: game and win four of them. That's fair.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: I don't know if this is related to the opener
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: of this comment that says, we have Josh Hallen, every
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: team's QB situation is a joke. Jared Jared Goff has
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: been pretty good. Justin Herbert is a good QB. Drake
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: May was second in the MVP. Matthew Stafford won the MVP.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: So minimum like four of those qbs are really good. Yeah,
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: Joe's love for Kirk Cousins. Four of those qbs are
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: pretty good quarterbacks that they face to start out. Depending
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: on how you feel about C. J. Stroud, maybe four
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: and a half five. I think. I think with an
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: approved offensive line, he'll be back to being good like
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: he was as a rookie. But there's I don't think
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: every other team's situation is a joke to start the year.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: They they got some dudes. Yeah it's cool. Yeah, that
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: was a good question. Yeah, I think Yeah, I don't
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: think that. It depends on how they looked in the
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: three and three. Depending on how that three and three looks,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: I think the fan base could be accepting of it.
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: But yeah, I think they need to uh. They need
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: to go in above five hundred into the bye week.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: I think for fans to not want uh torches and
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: pitchforks and all of those things.
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: I thought the.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Banners is tootles, folks, Joe, any parting words of wisdom
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: or thoughts for the folks.
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: You know, we talked a lot about the projection for
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: this team from like the concerned aspect of it, and
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: I want to reinforce that there is a very very
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: realistic possibility that this team quells our doubt and starts
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: out of the gate really really hot for a four
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: and two or five on one record. There is a
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: very real possibility that the change of the guard to
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: Joe Brady from Sean McDermott and having a different type
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: of defensive mind could really stabilize things. I think when
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: we have these conversations, it's just keeping in mind that
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: like nothing is a guarantee, and we're trying to be
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: as realistic as possible, but being realistic and looking at
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: this team the past better part of the decade is
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: a four and two record to start the year and
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: a playoff team and a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: So for as much like doom casting or concern as
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: we've had here, I do want to reinforce that this
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: is a good team. I think that this is a
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: good team with a lot of talent. I think Josh
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: Allen is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL,
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: and when you have him, you have a chance in
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: any game you play. And I still believe in this team.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: I'm still excited to watch this team. I still believe
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: in Jim Leonard. And no matter who you play, it
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: makes no difference because ultimately that's out of your control.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: So play who's in front of you and let's see
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: how they do. And Anthony, I appreciate you having me
- 1:12:11Speaker 2: first time on this guy's coverage. This has been a
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: ton of fun. Haven't done a show on a Saturday
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: since Under Review days, so it's cool to be back
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: in this in this pocket of time. To everyone who watched,
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: I hope you enjoy your day. To all Sabers fans
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: because I am personally not a Sabers fan, but I
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: am a Sabers sympathizer. I am rooting for them. I
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: hope you guys win. I really do. I want to
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: see that team thrive. But even if they I don't
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: want to entertain the other side. As much as I'll say,
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: I still think that no matter what, you guys should
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: absolutely be proud of the season.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: Because I'm not ready for that conversation.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: I got it, I get it, Okay, I apologize, but
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: I'm rooting for you guys.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: I know where you're going and that this sentiment is
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: appreciate it, and I will echo that sentiment if they
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: lose tonight, I'll echo that sentiment in a week or
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: two weeks from now. But I'm I'm not ready to
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: turn that. So no, I appreciate you having me. This
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: was great, and I even too. You know, I don't
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: think we were dreamcasting. We both said that the bills
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: would be over ten and a half wins. We both
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: put them at like eleven and twelve is like where
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: they would kind of be. Yeah, I think that it's
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: gonna be fun. I think this is an exciting season.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: The schedule looks rough on paper as of now, but
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: there are some little baked in advantages like we talked about,
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: and it's always good to have things baked in, you know,
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: from an advantage standpoint. You know what else does a
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: really good job of baking things in? One pie? Pizza.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: They bake in deliciousness and quality into everything that they make.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: They are the best pizza in Buffalo, New York. I
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: don't say that because they sponsor the show. They sponsor
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: the show because I truly, sincerely believe they are the
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: best pizza in Buffalo, New York. Sweet sauce, pie cup
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: and char Pepperoni, great blue cheese, homemade blue cheese, homemade
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: red sauce, a great cheese of sauce ratio. It's not
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: all messy flopping off the pizza everywhere and pulling off
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: off when you take a bite. If you get different toppings,
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: they'll chop them up, sprinkle them evenly across the pie.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: They do a breakfast pizza. They do a catering division
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: called Elevated Catering a Buffalo. I have them do different
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: parties and things that my family does and outdoor gatherings
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: that we do every summer. So I'll get a bunch
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: of pies, I'll get a bunch of they're homemade mac
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: and cheeses. They have a bunch of variety of those,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: like chicken and rice dishes. Their salads are good and
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I don't even like salad. Everything they make, sincerely is
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: top tier quality. I always say they're really good people
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: making really good food. They do a ton of initiatives
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: for the community and the city at large, Toys for
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: Tots partner with the Alzheimer's Foundation, partner with the SPCA,
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: different drives and events and initiatives. They are the best.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Their food is phenomenal. Don't be like Joe DeRosa and
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: be in the city of Buffalo and not get one
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: pie pizza and then just make excuses as to why
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: you didn't get the pizza. I just just don't. Just
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: don't be like Joe, get yourself one, but be like
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: r J.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: R J.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: R J has gotten one pie pizza before. I appreciate
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: the kind words r J. He knows, he knows what's up.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: So don't be like Joe.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: Humiliation ritual. This is why you brought me on here.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: You brought me on here just to do this read
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: with me in person for the very first time ever,
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: just to shame me. I tried, Guys, I tried.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I try. I mean, I get it, but it's
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: just uh, you're you're you are. I'm I'm just glad
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: I was able to do the show with the huge
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: knife in my back. When you didn't get one pie pizza.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: It's hard to turn be in this whole blank chair
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: knowing that in between my.
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: Two shoulder brains.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I've just got this machete size blade.
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: I will give you my word here. Why you all
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: hear it, Anthony hears it. I'm trying to go back
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: to buff this here for a game. I am trying
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: to I don't know if I will. I will get
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: that pizza when I'm there. I promise you have it
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: here sign sealed delivery. You put me.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: What's the collateral? If you don't get.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: It, I have to come back on the show for
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: an episode I don't know of your choosing, and I
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: have to do an apology read you can make it.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: Then I get to create the apology letter. I will
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: come on the show and I will read it. It could
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: be an episode that has nothing to do with this.
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: It could be a random time. I could pre record it.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: But if I cannot get to it the next time
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: I am Buffalo, I have to come onto this show
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: and I have to read an apology letter that you create. Okay,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: does that sound fair? That sounds very fair. Charles is
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: asking if they ship it not probably not to where
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: I am.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: I'm not an evil, but they they definitely deliver. There's
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: a lot of ways to get it, and Rio always
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: go pick it up, uber eats it whatever. Well, now
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: what I want to do is like the next time
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: you're in town, I'm gonna call them and be like,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: I need you to be closed for these next three days.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: No, you can't sabotage it. You cannot say that would
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: be evil, dude. And honestly, I would accuse if I
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: got there and I couldn't get anything, I would accuse
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: you before i'd ever blame that.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: That's because I'll know you'll be at work. I was.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: I want you all to know because I haven't said
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: my piece. I was so excited. I sent him a
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: picture of the sign. A car was parked outside. I
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: was ready to go. Man, this is right after the
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: Saints game. We had to get Chipotle instead, and it
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: was fine, but like, yeah, it wasn't one pie. It
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: wasn't one pie.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Because they were they were closed, or they sold out.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: They sold out, they sold out of pizza.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: That's how good it is.
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: Man. They call it one pie because you only get one.
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: Get one. There's only one. They only make one a day,
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: and it's first come first or whoever shows up and
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: gets it. Yeah, get your get them do it.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: One pie. You have my word, too.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: When I'm talking to the when I'm saying I get
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: yourself from one pie pizza, I'm talking to people to
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: the world, but I'm also talking to you.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: I know you are.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Now I'm gonna say, I gotta find ways to sabotage
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: this next time you're in town. I'm gonna be.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: So mad if they don't have it again, and I'm
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: gonna be I'll figure out a way.
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: This was fun. I appreciate you taking the time to
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: join me today. Yeah, it's been, you know, a while
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: since you've been in front of the screen, and you're
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: you're so active behind the scenes for myself and Eric
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: every week with the film room, and yeah, I thought
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: this would be a fun conversation to have, and I
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: didn't want to do it alone. I thought you'd be
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: a fun guy to have the conversation with, and you
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: restored and maintained my faith in that. So yeah, appreciate
