- 1:32Lord, I pray against any of the demonic haunts.
- 1:35God, any of the demonic attacks, Lord, in the name of Jesus,
- 1:40silence the accuser today. Cast them into the judgment.
- 1:44You have a waiting for them. In the mighty name of Jesus, I
- 1:47pray, God Almighty, break out. Holy Spirit, break out.
- 1:51Holy Spirit, come fill us today. Overflowing into the highways
- 1:56and the hedges and the byways, into the homeless shelters, into
- 2:00the hospitals, into the schools, into the courtroom.
- 2:04God Almighty, I pray that the Holy Spirit will fill US
- 2:08mightily. God, let us not be cowards.
- 2:11Let us not shrink back. Let us not be fearful.
- 2:14God, let us be strong and courageous.
- 2:17Lord, I pray against the senseless taking of life.
- 2:23God, I pray, Lord, that the blood of the martyr will be the
- 2:27seed of the church. God, I pray that you will help
- 2:30us to understand that this is not our home.
- 2:34Lord, we were made for so much more.
- 2:36God, I pray that you will continue to fuel us for the
- 2:39journey. Help us, Lord, to know that you
- 2:42are fighting our battles. Help us to crush the head of the
- 2:45snake. God help us.
- 2:47Lord Jesus, help us to know that you are and that you are
- 2:54everything and that you are fighting our battles and that
- 2:58you are leading us home. Lord, where you are is where we
- 3:03want to be. Let your Kingdom come and your
- 3:05will be done on this earth just as it is there in heaven.
- 3:08Help us to be your hands and feet.
- 3:10Help us to love you more. Father God, you are everything.
- 3:15Yahweh, everlasting, Adonai El Elyon, the Most High.
- 3:19God, you are the one who sees. You're the healer, you're the
- 3:23banner, you're the provider, God, you are Lord Jesus and it's
- 3:30in your holy and precious name that I pray.
- 3:33Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 3:40Rebuke not an elder, but treat him as a father and the younger
- 3:48men as brothers. This is some age-old wisdom that
- 3:53God wants to impart to all the believers who choose to get
- 3:57their nose in the book. Once you start feasting upon
- 4:02God's Word, you're going to find that the peace of God starts
- 4:05flooding in. And a lot of it has to do with
- 4:08very practical application. When you read through the book
- 4:13of Proverbs, when you read through the entirety of God's
- 4:16Word, what He does is very simply and methodically starts
- 4:22to reveal the very things in our lives that are going to keep us
- 4:26from the traps and from the deception and from the offense.
- 4:30It's going to keep us from losing our life, from ticking
- 4:35people off by treating them as lesser and lording over others,
- 4:40and it is going to result in a harmonious relationship.
- 4:45When you take these words to heart, when you actually believe
- 4:48them, when you actually put them into practice, it is almost as
- 4:52if God knows what He's talking about.
- 4:54And He wrote all of it in the fabric and the DNA of life and
- 4:59all of the tapestry all around us.
- 5:02And so when you read these words and you put them into practice,
- 5:06you're going to be amazed at the peace that comes in because
- 5:10you're keeping yourself from so much harm.
- 5:14You're keeping yourself from offending people.
- 5:16You're keeping yourself from stepping on people's toes.
- 5:20You're keeping yourself from arguments.
- 5:25You're keeping yourself from so many things that could very well
- 5:31cost you your life because of the disrespect and hear God
- 5:35plainly and simply, black and white tells you that we are not
- 5:43to treat the older generation as if they don't know anything, and
- 5:49we're not to treat the people that are our age as if they are
- 5:55not wise. And this is God's wisdom in
- 6:00practice to the older women as mothers, the younger as sisters
- 6:07with all purity. This is how you keep yourself
- 6:11from so many traps and pitfalls. If you will see older women the
- 6:18same way and treat them as you would your own mother, then you
- 6:23will keep yourself from falling into a pit of despair.
- 6:30And if you see the women in your life that are your age as your
- 6:36sisters and not as potential mates and potential lovers when
- 6:41you already have a wife, then you will keep yourself from so
- 6:46many pitfalls and so many snares.
- 6:49And you need to understand when you put this into practice,
- 6:53you're going to be guarded and have guardrails and safeguards
- 6:57around your marriage and safeguards whenever you are in a
- 7:02situation with the opposite sex. You will not see them as a
- 7:08lover. You will not see them as a
- 7:11lustful object. You will see them as a mother.
- 7:15You will see them as a sister. And you will see that God's plan
- 7:19for the ages is for one man and one woman to have their husband
- 7:25or have their wife and to not let the love to spill into the
- 7:29streets, friends. And this is what safeguards
- 7:32families. And Jesus Christ said there was
- 7:35only one way out of a marriage, and that was infidelity.
- 7:38Because when you cheat on your spouse, there is no going back
- 7:42from that. There is no healing from that.
- 7:45The wound is a gaping hole and it is pussing out with the
- 7:51infection because it cannot be covered over, because it is a
- 7:56defilement that is so incredibly hurtful that you cannot get over
- 8:03it. And that is why the enemy tries
- 8:06to entangle and snare us in lust and try to entangle and snare us
- 8:11in infidelity because he knows that that is the quickest way to
- 8:15break down the family unit, which is his Plan 3 honor widows
- 8:22that are widows indeed. So Paul here is going to get
- 8:25into a section that say make sure you do your homework.
- 8:28Don't be giving the church finance out to people who don't
- 8:32actually need it, that are just asking for an unnecessary
- 8:37handout for. But if any widow have children
- 8:41or nephews, let them learn first to show piety at home and to
- 8:45requite their parents for that is good and acceptable before
- 8:49God. So the welfare system needs to
- 8:53start with the widow's own family, if there are those
- 8:59within her own family that can take her in and to help keep her
- 9:02up. That's what needs to happen
- 9:04before the church steps in, and that will actually help with the
- 9:08edification of what God intends for the family unit, for us to
- 9:14be able to see Jesus at work through our hands and feet, and
- 9:20that is what is pleasing unto God. 5 Now she that is a widow
- 9:26indeed, and desolate, trust in God and continue using
- 9:31supplications and prayers night and day.
- 9:33So the woman who is holy and the woman who truly needs the help,
- 9:38it will be shown through her prayers and through what she is
- 9:43doing, not just in asking for a handout, but it will be shown in
- 9:49her character. 6 But she that lives in pleasure is dead while
- 9:55she lives. So Paul here is writing to the
- 9:58church, he's writing to Timothy and Ephesus and he's saying you
- 10:01can tell when when a woman who does not actually need help, she
- 10:07is just looking for a handout and she's just looking for a way
- 10:16to be able to keep up her lavish lifestyle.
- 10:19And he's saying do not support those that are stuck in worldly
- 10:27desires and worldly passions and his and that are discontent with
- 10:34just food and clothing. And that is what God has called
- 10:38us to, to just be content with food and clothing.
- 10:42And he will provide that friends, He will provide your
- 10:45food and he will provide your clothing.
- 10:47He will provide for you friends and you need to be content with
- 10:51what you have and quit thinking about all the things that you
- 10:55need or what you don't have. Friends 7 And these things give
- 11:02in charge that they may be blameless.
- 11:05So he's telling Timothy, he's telling us, listen, you don't
- 11:10need to apologize for refusing to help people if they don't
- 11:17truly need it. 8 But if any provide not for his own and
- 11:22especially for those of his own house, he's denied the faith and
- 11:27is worse than an infidel. So he's saying that those that
- 11:31do not provide for their own family are worse than an
- 11:34unbeliever. How despicable is it for someone
- 11:40who claims to be a believer, but they don't even get up and work
- 11:44to provide for their own family? That is what he's saying, that
- 11:51those people are worse than an infidel.
- 11:54They're worse than an unbeliever.
- 11:56We are called to work. And that if you go back to the
- 11:59book of Genesis and you look, whenever God is dealing out the
- 12:03punishment to man, He told him by the sweat of his brow, by
- 12:06thorns and thistles, he'll try to make a living for himself.
- 12:10And that is what we're called to do, friends, We're called to
- 12:14work. We're called to put our hands to
- 12:16the plow. We're not called to sit on the
- 12:18sidelines and to be lazy. We're called to actually go out.
- 12:22And it is God's plan for the man to be able to provide for his
- 12:28family. And here we are in a society
- 12:31where everything's based off of a double income and it is an
- 12:34attack of the enemy. Friends, I want you to know.
- 12:38I want you to lock into what I'm about to say.
- 12:42Everything is based off of both the husband and the wife working
- 12:48so that you will farm out your responsibility to those who care
- 12:52nothing for your children who just want to indoctrinate them
- 12:57in the doctrine of demons. Friends, far be it from us.
- 13:02If we will trust God with the little, He will multiply it.
- 13:07We need to know that God is able to take our little and to make
- 13:14sure that we have a roof over our head, clean drinking water,
- 13:18food in our bellies and clothes on our back.
- 13:21And they might not be the latest and greatest, they might not be
- 13:26the keeping up with the Joneses status, but it will be plenty
- 13:32and it will be enough. In this calls for wisdom,
- 13:35friends. Nine, let not a widow be taken
- 13:39into the number under 60 years old, having been the wife of one
- 13:45man. So he's saying if she's under 60
- 13:48years old, then she is not able to get the help from the church
- 13:58that she's asking for. And he's going to tell us what
- 14:01she ought to do ten well reported of for good works, if
- 14:07she have brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she
- 14:11has washed Saints feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if
- 14:15she has diligent, diligently followed every good work.
- 14:19So Paul here is telling us what are the requirements for the
- 14:26church to step in and to help a woman who has lost her husband,
- 14:32Not somebody who was a busy body, not somebody who was
- 14:36promiscuous, but a woman who was faithful to her husband, who is
- 14:41over 60 years old. And she has been doing the
- 14:46things already. It's not as if they say if you
- 14:50start doing these things, we will support you.
- 14:54But she is already shown through her life of all the things that
- 14:59she's doing for the church. Then it is easy for them to say
- 15:05yes to her. 11 But the younger widows refuse.
- 15:11When they've begun to grow wanton against Christ, they will
- 15:16marry. So that is what the requirement
- 15:19is. If it is a younger widow under
- 15:22the age of 60, she is to remarry friends so that the church is
- 15:27not burdened by her coming and asking for their help. 12 having
- 15:34damnation because they have cast off their first faith.
- 15:38So what he's saying is these younger women will grow weary
- 15:46and disappear from the faith and Pierce themselves with many
- 15:51sorrows if they just get put up. If they just get set up, if they
- 15:59think that they just get a free ride, they'll fall away.
- 16:03And this is Paul's wisdom, this is God's wisdom, and he wants us
- 16:07to know what it is that the church is required to do, and
- 16:12what they are free from not doing. 13 And with all they
- 16:21learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, not
- 16:25only idle, but tattlers also, busy bodies speaking things
- 16:30which they ought not. So these younger widows have the
- 16:37propensity to still be immature in their walk and to just go
- 16:44around gossiping and telling white lies.
- 16:48And Paul here saying put them under the strain of needing to
- 16:56be remarried. And women are created.
- 17:00Women need to be led. And that is why it is so
- 17:04important to choose a husband who loves God more than they
- 17:09love you. 14 I will therefore that the younger women marry and
- 17:18bear children, guide the house, give no occasion to the
- 17:22adversary to speak reproachfully.
- 17:25So here Paul is laying out the groundwork of what is pleasing
- 17:29unto God. And it is for the wife to be a
- 17:33homemaker. It is for the wife to rear
- 17:36children. It is for the wife to keep the
- 17:39house. And that's that is so incredibly
- 17:42foreign to our current culture, but it is pleasing unto God and
- 17:47it is his will for us even today.
- 17:50This is not of antiquity. This is not for a different
- 17:55time. This is for today, friends.
- 17:58And if we will put this into practice, if we will trust God
- 18:02that He will provide and that we don't need 2 incomes, you're
- 18:07going to see miracles break out. You're going to see God keeping
- 18:11your house in perfect peace. But by and large, most do not
- 18:20put this into practice. 15 for some are already turned aside
- 18:28after Satan. How sad is that These widows
- 18:34lose their husband, and because they've lost the leader, they
- 18:39get LED astray, and it is sad. 16 If any man or woman that
- 18:45believes and have widows, let them relieve them, and let not
- 18:52the church be charged that it may relieve them that are widows
- 18:56indeed. So he's saying, let them first
- 18:59be supported by their own family.
- 19:02Don't burden the church. That should be the last resort.
- 19:0717 Let the elders that rule be well be counted worthy of double
- 19:13honor, especially they who labor in Word and doctrine.
- 19:18So here he turns his attention to the elders of the church who
- 19:22give their lives to Word and doctrine.
- 19:25They give their lives over to studying of the Word and
- 19:29teaching the Word. And he's saying let them be
- 19:32counted of a double honor. And that was how he led this
- 19:39whole chapter off about not rebuking an elder.
- 19:43Friends. 18 For the scripture says, you shall not muzzle the
- 19:48ox that treads out the corn, and the laborer is worthy of his
- 19:53reward. So Paul is here saying that if
- 19:57someone is preaching the gospel, then they deserve to be
- 20:03supported by the gospel. And Paul knew this fact, but he
- 20:10still refused it, and he was a tent maker, and he was no lesser
- 20:15because he refused to be supported by it.
- 20:18He's telling us that the laborer is worth his wages and that we
- 20:23should not muzzle the ox when it treads out the grain.
- 20:27If you muzzle the beast when it's out there in the field and
- 20:32you're asking it to work and it cannot eat while it works, it
- 20:35will fall over. 19 against an elder received no accusation,
- 20:44but before two or three witnesses.
- 20:46So he's saying don't believe somebody whenever they rail an
- 20:49accusation against somebody who is in authority.
- 20:54Just because they say it does not make it actual.
- 20:58You need at least two, but preferably 3 witnesses to
- 21:03substantiate a claim. 20 them that sin rebuke before all that
- 21:13others also may fear. So we don't need to give the
- 21:16devil a foothold. We don't need to just latch on
- 21:21to the gossip and the lies and the slander about somebody.
- 21:26We don't need to believe all of the accusations that come our
- 21:31way about those that are in authority.
- 21:33A lot of times it's undermining and it's mutiny, friends, and we
- 21:37could be guilty if we latch on to it and if we believe it and
- 21:42run with it before we get at least two or three witnesses to
- 21:46substantiate that claim. But we are given permission that
- 21:57those that do sin, and it's validated by at least 2, but
- 22:02preferably 3 witnesses. We are justified in judging
- 22:07them. We are justified at justice.
- 22:12We're justified at bringing about the charge and turning
- 22:17them out friends. And we are justified in making
- 22:21sure that they know that they have sinned and that they have
- 22:24been found out. 21 I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus
- 22:29Christ and the elect angels, that you observe these things
- 22:34without preferring one before another, doing nothing by
- 22:38partiality. God is no respecter of men.
- 22:42God does not care about what you look like in the outside.
- 22:45God cares that you clean the inside of the cup.
- 22:48Don't show partiality because they give more money to the
- 22:52church. Don't turn a blind's eye away
- 22:55when somebody does something wrong.
- 22:57Wrong is wrong, friends. It's black and white.
- 23:00It's written here in the Scripture for us to search and
- 23:03to know what God's heart is and what it is that we are to do
- 23:06that pleases God. And when people step out of
- 23:09line, they need to be told that they have so that they can
- 23:12correct it. We don't need to just sugarcoat
- 23:16things, friends. We need to make sure that we
- 23:20give people the opportunity to repent and to turn and to
- 23:26confess and to be restored. God is a God of restoration.
- 23:32God is a God of reconciliation. We don't need to leave them out
- 23:35in the cold if they are truly repentant.
- 23:41And you can see here that the things that we do, the angels
- 23:45are watching. You need to understand that God
- 23:50uses humans to teach angels lessons.
- 23:55How amazing is that 22 lay hands suddenly on no man neither be
- 24:01partaker of other men's sins. Keep yourself pure.
- 24:06So Paul here saying do your homework.
- 24:09Don't just love somebody into hell.
- 24:14Don't just sinfully show mercy, people need to be corrected and
- 24:20given the opportunity to turn away from those sins and to
- 24:23learn the ways of God. 23 Drink no longer water, but use a
- 24:28little wine for your stomachs sake and you're often
- 24:32infirmities. So it's plain as the nose on
- 24:35your face that God is not a God of just pure abstinence when it
- 24:40comes to alcohol. And of course this was written
- 24:44in a time where alcohol was less fermented, less alcohol content,
- 24:50less volume of alcohol within a beverage.
- 24:54And we have taken it and we have made it much stronger.
- 24:57But you need to understand that during this time, Paul was
- 25:02writing to Timothy telling him to have a little wine.
- 25:05Don't just think that you can be holier than thou by not drinking
- 25:10at all. But we do not need to be a
- 25:13stumbling block to those that we know that stumble from alcohol.
- 25:20And this calls for wisdom 24 Some men's sins are open
- 25:27beforehand, going before to judgement, and some men, they
- 25:31follow after. Some people wear their sins on
- 25:34their sleeve, friends, and some people hide them in a closet.
- 25:38And we don't know anything about them until they're found out
- 25:41because God brought them out, friends.
- 25:44And you need to understand that God has to deal with sin.
- 25:50He cannot be around it. And he did it all on the cross.
- 25:53And love covers a multitude of sins.
- 25:57We'll end on 25. Likewise.
- 26:00Also, the good works of some are manifest beforehand, and they
- 26:04that are otherwise cannot be hid.
- 26:07So God deals with things, He brings it all out to the light,
- 26:11the good and the bad. If you think that you are
- 26:13secretly sinning, your sin will find you out.
- 26:17And if you think that no one sees all the things that that
- 26:20you're doing and you're not seeking any kind of recognition,
- 26:24God will bring those out to friends and you will be rewarded
- 26:28and honored in due time. Do not grow weary in doing good.
- 26:32I hope that you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 26:35Word. I know I sure have.
- 26:43I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 26:47I love you so I just got. We'll see you back here
- 26:53tomorrow. God bless you.
