- 0:02Speaker 1: Okay, Dan, let me get this straight. We sent our
- 0:04Speaker 1: information via the Arvest Home For Me app. You reviewed
- 0:06Speaker 1: it here, and now we're pre-qualified?
- 0:08Speaker 2: Officially. Wow, that's... Helpful?
- 0:11Speaker 1: Very helpful.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Home loans made easy.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Arvest Bank.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Ready to help.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome
- 0:23Speaker 2: to our Community Connection right here on K1, the one
- 0:26Speaker 2: you trust, a little something we call one-on-one with the pro,
- 0:29Speaker 2: but we're talking with Advanced Pest Control, and my goodness sakes,
- 0:34Speaker 2: you brought friends.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I did.
- 0:37Speaker 2: You're good at this. You know, he tells me, he says, hey,
- 0:39Speaker 2: you know, this is great. In a business like this,
- 0:41Speaker 2: you get to meet all kinds of people.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:43Speaker 2: And you brought Brennan in. Right.
- 0:46Speaker 3: I brought one of the best organizations in borderville as far.
- 0:50Speaker 2: As i'm concerned the journey home.
- 0:53Speaker 4: Thank you quentin unfortunately deals with the friends that we
- 0:56Speaker 4: don't want to keep oh yeah he definitely takes care
- 0:59Speaker 4: of us.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Well quentin's pretty good at that he just called the queue.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Man for real you know i was thinking about this
- 1:06Speaker 4: morning i thought oh my gosh the mice are going
- 1:08Speaker 4: to be coming in pretty soon when it gets cooler
- 1:10Speaker 4: and we're very grateful for you all because you take
- 1:13Speaker 4: care of our Our grounds, and that's a lot to
- 1:17Speaker 4: take care of.
- 1:17Speaker 2: That's a big building.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It's a huge building.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I bet it's bigger inside. I mean, it looks big
- 1:23Speaker 2: from the outside.
- 1:24Speaker 4: It is.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You guys both know where we nook and cranny of it,
- 1:26Speaker 2: don't you?
- 1:27Speaker 3: We're there for Mike.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Mike's support group.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Trying to maintain and keep our unwanted friends out for sure.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Well, Quentin, you know, you've been so busy. It just
- 1:41Speaker 2: seems like you guys are nonstop all over the area.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Not just town, not just a couple of towns, but
- 1:47Speaker 2: all over the whole area. Word gets out that Advanced
- 1:51Speaker 2: Pest Solutions is probably the best bang for the buck
- 1:55Speaker 2: when it comes to keeping critters under control.
- 1:59Speaker 5: I like to think we do a good job and
- 2:01Speaker 5: make a lot of friends along the way. We did
- 2:03Speaker 5: a chamber thing the other night that was a lot
- 2:05Speaker 5: of fun.
- 2:06Speaker 3: I think I saw you there.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Yes. I think there, anybody, it was a who's who,
- 2:09Speaker 2: wasn't it?
- 2:09Speaker 3: Yeah, there was a lot of people there. It was
- 2:11Speaker 3: a really, really good time.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Business Expo is always a good chamber event for sure.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. And so now I want to make
- 2:20Speaker 2: it clear to everybody that Advanced Pest Solutions does residential,
- 2:25Speaker 2: but they also do businesses too. And once again, we're
- 2:28Speaker 2: talking about the journey home, and this, of course, is it.
- 2:31Speaker 2: It's a business, but a different kind of business. It's
- 2:33Speaker 2: a nonprofit agency.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Right.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Very nonprofit.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Tell us a little bit about that.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yes. So the Journey Home is an end-of-life hospice home.
- 2:41Speaker 4: We care for people in their last 30 days of life.
- 2:44Speaker 4: So the requirements to come there, you have to have
- 2:47Speaker 4: a do-not-resuscitate order. You have to be with the hospice
- 2:51Speaker 4: that we contract with in your last 30 days of life.
- 2:54Speaker 4: So those are the qualifications. Here in Burtlesville, we have
- 2:57Speaker 4: six beds. We also have opened a second location in Sperry, Oklahoma,
- 3:01Speaker 4: and that's three beds.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So we are just up.
- 3:05Speaker 4: And down Highway 75 a little bit. But we've already
- 3:08Speaker 4: taken care of 95 guests since January at the Sperry house.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Wow.
- 3:13Speaker 4: So it's definitely, there's a need there that we're very
- 3:16Speaker 4: much so there for a reason.
- 3:18Speaker 1: And so it's, we are very blessed.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Well, Quentin, I don't know if you know this or not, but...
- 3:23Speaker 2: There's only a handful of places even remotely like this
- 3:26Speaker 2: in the United States. I've learned that. We have two
- 3:28Speaker 2: right here in our area.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Right, we're blessed. I will say this.
- 3:32Speaker 5: A lot of people know about Journey Home, but until
- 3:37Speaker 5: you experience it firsthand, you don't really understand the care
- 3:41Speaker 5: that you get. My father died a couple years ago,
- 3:45Speaker 5: and we was down there. You know, he had COPD, and.
- 3:51Speaker 5: I was afraid I was gonna have to watch him
- 3:53Speaker 5: really suffer and suffocate. And he didn't even have his
- 3:58Speaker 5: oxygen on the last day or so.
- 4:00Speaker 3: He took it off.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Himself and he didn't suffer. And they provide food for you,
- 4:06Speaker 5: they fix meals for you. So it's not just a
- 4:09Speaker 5: place for the person to come. It's a place for
- 4:12Speaker 5: the family to come together. All his family got to
- 4:14Speaker 5: see him before he died.
- 4:16Speaker 2: It was.
- 4:18Speaker 3: A pretty ideal situation in a very bad time.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And this is really what it's all about. Uh, it's
- 4:30Speaker 2: probably the most emotional part of our life cycles being
- 4:35Speaker 2: with our loved ones, the last days of our lives.
- 4:39Speaker 2: And you do such a wonderful job of making everybody
- 4:42Speaker 2: feel at home.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Thank you. We do.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Um, I know Quentin through our kitchen manager and she's
- 4:49Speaker 4: actually out currently for her own health right now. But so, yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 4: so she has really enjoyed her position and been in
- 5:01Speaker 4: the kitchen fixing lunch every day. And so we miss
- 5:04Speaker 4: her greatly not being there, but she's going to get
- 5:07Speaker 4: better and come back very soon. But yeah, that's, you know,
- 5:14Speaker 4: you don't understand it until you're in it. and realize,
- 5:17Speaker 4: you know, the last 30 days are really truly the
- 5:19Speaker 4: hardest because they're usually bed bound and you're needing to
- 5:22Speaker 4: make sure that they don't have breakdown and repositioning and medications.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Medications can be given every two hours. And, you know,
- 5:30Speaker 4: when you're doing this around the clock, you know, have
- 5:32Speaker 4: you sleeping? Are you sleeping with one eye open? You know,
- 5:35Speaker 4: those types of things. And people just don't understand how
- 5:39Speaker 4: tough it is until they're trying to do it. And it's,
- 5:42Speaker 4: that's probably the hardest thing when people walk in, they say, I,
- 5:45Speaker 4: I promised them that I wouldn't, I wouldn't take them somewhere. Um,
- 5:50Speaker 4: and then they come in and they see it's a house.
- 5:52Speaker 4: It's not an institution. It doesn't have the typical smells. Um, yes,
- 5:59Speaker 4: it's very warm and inviting. And so it's, it is
- 6:02Speaker 4: the nest next best thing to being at home.
- 6:06Speaker 1: But sometimes it's just, it's, you've got to take care
- 6:09Speaker 1: of yourself.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You do.
- 6:11Speaker 3: I know with my mom, um, she had taken care
- 6:15Speaker 3: of dad for weeks on end. She wasn't eating.
- 6:18Speaker 5: And I'd actually called the hospice place that was taking
- 6:20Speaker 5: care of, had went and seen dad once before and
- 6:23Speaker 5: they said he wasn't ready.
- 6:25Speaker 3: And I called him and said, hey, I.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Think mom's, she's just, I'd have a talk with mom
- 6:29Speaker 5: and say, mom, you're going to be in dad's spot
- 6:31Speaker 5: if you do not do something and you don't eat
- 6:33Speaker 5: and you don't take.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Care of yourself.
- 6:35Speaker 5: And she called me the next day crying and said
- 6:38Speaker 5: she made a phone call. And She had the same deal.
- 6:42Speaker 5: She had a lot of self-blame. She promised him she'd
- 6:45Speaker 5: never do that to him. But he was coherent. It
- 6:47Speaker 5: was his choice. He chose to go down there.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to go. I want to go. But
- 6:52Speaker 3: it didn't really help her.
- 6:55Speaker 5: But it allowed her to get away and be, like
- 6:58Speaker 5: the hospice nurse said, you can now be the wife,
- 7:01Speaker 5: not the caretaker.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Because it's hard to be both.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Very hard, I can imagine. I can only imagine.
- 7:07Speaker 1: That's what we just had somebody....
- 7:09Speaker 4: I was up in Sperry last week and it was
- 7:13Speaker 4: a son that was taking care of his mother. And
- 7:15Speaker 4: he said, I hate to say this, but he said,
- 7:18Speaker 4: I slept so good last night because she had been
- 7:22Speaker 4: transferred that next, the day before. And he said, I'm,
- 7:25Speaker 4: I'm so selfish for saying this, but I slept like
- 7:29Speaker 4: a rock because I've been so tired.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And so that's what we usually say.
- 7:33Speaker 4: You know, if you feel comfortable, leave them that first night,
- 7:37Speaker 4: you know, go home and get some rest. Cause if
- 7:39Speaker 4: you're if you're exhausted, you're not, you're not helping anybody,
- 7:42Speaker 4: especially yourself.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah. You're deteriorating right along with everything else.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:48Speaker 4: So that was something that I just thought that's interesting to,
- 7:51Speaker 4: I mean, he said, I, you know, I feel selfish
- 7:53Speaker 4: saying it, but I'm so grateful that I had such
- 7:56Speaker 4: a good night's sleep last night.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And now the energy to go on and do what
- 8:00Speaker 2: needs to be done.
- 8:01Speaker 4: Yes. Have those conversations that into life is just, it's precious. It's,
- 8:06Speaker 4: there's nothing better in the world than, having those memories
- 8:10Speaker 4: and just being able to speak and tell that person
- 8:16Speaker 4: what is so valuable about that relationship. I was definitely
- 8:22Speaker 4: honored to have that with my grandmother when she passed away.
- 8:24Speaker 4: It's something that you just can't... You only.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Get one chance at it.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 8:33Speaker 3: If you miss it, how many times do people have
- 8:35Speaker 3: regret because they didn't have the chance or they didn't
- 8:38Speaker 3: have a place?
- 8:38Speaker 2: Right. Right.
- 8:39Speaker 4: And that's, I mean, that's a lot of it is
- 8:42Speaker 4: some people can, you know, just have a massive heart
- 8:44Speaker 4: attack and you don't get that chance to say the
- 8:48Speaker 4: goodbyes that you would like to. But, you know, we
- 8:51Speaker 4: try to be able to put the family back in
- 8:53Speaker 4: just the family situation opposed to the caregiving and that situation. Wow.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Now, I understand that there's going to be a nice
- 9:02Speaker 2: little fundraiser. Right.
- 9:04Speaker 3: I think the 19th of September.
- 9:06Speaker 1: The 19th of September.
- 9:07Speaker 2: That's right. That's pretty darn quick.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Yes, less than two weeks away.
- 9:11Speaker 4: So we are actually giving away a $ 1, 500 Royal Caribbean
- 9:17Speaker 4: gift certificate if we sell 250 pre-sold packets before the event.
- 9:26Speaker 4: So I checked it before I came in, and we
- 9:29Speaker 4: need 114 more sales.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Wow.
- 9:32Speaker 4: So get on our Facebook page and buy this, and
- 9:36Speaker 4: there will be a $ 1, 500 gift card for Royal Caribbean
- 9:40Speaker 4: that will be on a raffle.
- 9:43Speaker 3: And let me say this.
- 9:45Speaker 5: One thing about Facebook, if you all see this, get
- 9:48Speaker 5: on it and share with people because that's the way
- 9:50Speaker 5: you get more people to see this stuff on Facebook.
- 9:53Speaker 5: If you don't, then you see it, and only a
- 9:56Speaker 5: certain amount of your friends see it. So if you
- 9:58Speaker 5: share it, then more people will. will actually see what's
- 10:02Speaker 5: going on.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Spread the word. Yes, yes. Share all those posts.
- 10:06Speaker 4: I'll be making one, I'm sure, today, and just trying
- 10:09Speaker 4: to get the word out that, you know, we do this,
- 10:12Speaker 4: and we don't charge for this. So fundraisers, things like this,
- 10:15Speaker 4: this is how... This is how.
- 10:17Speaker 1: We do what we do.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I mean, you think about it. There's not much in
- 10:19Speaker 5: this world that's free. There's not much free in this world.
- 10:23Speaker 5: And to be able to have the care you have,
- 10:27Speaker 5: it's kind of amazing there is no charge for it.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I mean, you get free meals.
- 10:30Speaker 5: And that's not why you do it, but it's just
- 10:33Speaker 5: the care that you have by all the people. The people,
- 10:36Speaker 5: they're not there because they don't want to be. It's
- 10:38Speaker 5: the type of job you either invest in or you're not.
- 10:41Speaker 5: So it's real important to support this.
- 10:43Speaker 2: It's one of those things of the heart.
- 10:46Speaker 3: It is.
- 10:47Speaker 2: You better have the heart for it.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Right.
- 10:50Speaker 2: My gosh. This is great. So it's the 19th. Where
- 10:53Speaker 2: are we doing this?
- 10:55Speaker 1: At the Washington County Fairgrounds up in Dewey.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Oh, yes. Oh, we've been there before for this, and
- 11:00Speaker 2: it's always been a rocking time.
- 11:02Speaker 1: We hope so. We hope so. We hope that the
- 11:05Speaker 1: doors are.
- 11:06Speaker 4: are just bombarded and that the seats are filled and
- 11:09Speaker 4: that we can raise a lot of money for the house.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Can they come? I don't know. Can they come at
- 11:13Speaker 3: the door and pay as well?
- 11:15Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 11:16Speaker 4: If we hit the 250 mark, then we will definitely
- 11:20Speaker 4: do the certificate.
- 11:23Speaker 1: If we don't, then there won't be a... a cruise certificate,
- 11:26Speaker 1: so please.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Let's do it.
- 11:29Speaker 1: It'll be fun. It'll be fun, yes.
- 11:32Speaker 2: It'll be full, but we won't be needing the fire marshal.
- 11:34Speaker 2: We'll have just the right amount of occupancy.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Yes, we've got another vacation that will be a condo
- 11:41Speaker 4: on the beach in North Carolina that will.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Be a live auction also.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Yes, we also have lots of silent auctions, and if
- 11:50Speaker 4: you would like to make a donation for our silent auction.
- 11:54Speaker 1: We're also we are still looking for sponsorships. And so
- 11:57Speaker 1: there's lots of ways that you can help out.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Great. That's wonderful. Yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Trudy will be doing hamburgers and hot dogs.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Oh, yummity yum.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So those will be available for purchase. So it's going
- 12:06Speaker 1: to be a fun night.
- 12:08Speaker 5: I know myself that we're sponsoring this next fundraiser. I
- 12:12Speaker 5: don't think there's a better place in town to donate
- 12:15Speaker 5: to as far as to help sponsor what they do.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Amen that that's that's you know that's it man that
- 12:23Speaker 2: is it hey quentin tell us a little bit about
- 12:26Speaker 2: how we can get a hold of you should we
- 12:28Speaker 2: need your services or if we wish to be proactive
- 12:30Speaker 2: because falls are coming how do we do.
- 12:33Speaker 3: It yeah if you'll give us a call at 918-440-8797
- 12:35Speaker 3: uh-huh you can if i'm not if i don't answer
- 12:36Speaker 3: we're kind of.
- 12:42Speaker 5: On and off the phone, I have two phones, so
- 12:44Speaker 5: there's that deal, but give me a call, leave a message,
- 12:47Speaker 5: I'll give you a call back, or you can go
- 12:48Speaker 5: on our website, Advanced Pest Solutions, I'm sorry, apestsolution.com, and
- 12:54Speaker 5: actually there's a little video on there that tells you
- 12:56Speaker 5: a little bit more about me, and there's also a
- 12:58Speaker 5: little video of the dogs working, so there's dogs for
- 13:01Speaker 5: bed bugs, so that's kind of interesting to look at,
- 13:03Speaker 5: I get calls sometimes just because of the dogs, they think, man,
- 13:06Speaker 5: that's kind of cool.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Well, they have bed bugs, too, so there's two reasons.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Yeah, well, there's two reasons. But it feels nice that
- 13:11Speaker 2: you got, you know, some fuzzy friends coming out there. Right.
- 13:15Speaker 2: And you're all well taken care of.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And it's great. And by the way, congratulations on your award.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I know you've been hearing that. Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 13:22Speaker 2: But that is great. Brendan, always great to see you.
- 13:25Speaker 2: And remember the 19th, folks.
- 13:27Speaker 1: 19th of September.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Bingo! Out at the fairgrounds and let's burn the house down,
- 13:32Speaker 2: as they say. Somebody's got to win a trip. We've
- 13:35Speaker 2: got to hit that number so somebody can win the
- 13:37Speaker 2: gift card for that trip. Thanks for coming out today
- 13:39Speaker 2: on this holiday. Appreciate it. You bet. Both. Okay, and
- 13:43Speaker 2: enjoy the day. Don't get too hot.
- 13:44Speaker 3: All right.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Hydrate. All right. Folks, you've been watching and listening to
- 13:50Speaker 2: our Community Connection right here on K1. the one you trust.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Our forecast for today is calling for a hot.
