- 0:21her chicken coop along with all her chickens.
- 0:28Hey, everybody, good morning. From the chicken coop, we've all
- 0:31heard the phrase the grass looks greener on the other side.
- 0:34And I think we've all experienced what that feels
- 0:38like. We all understand what it means.
- 0:39We all have kind of got a sense of the fact we understand what
- 0:43this phrase means to us and we've all committed it.
- 0:47We've all, we've done that, we've all looked at our
- 0:49neighbours or friends, Co workers, whatever and we think
- 0:53well they have it better than we do.
- 0:54It's it's probably one of the biggest human conditions that we
- 0:58have and and it really stems from the fact that we are all
- 1:02growth oriented creatures. So we look at other people, we
- 1:05see what they're doing, have being, and we say I want that.
- 1:08And that's how we kind of judge things for ourselves and kind of
- 1:11run out and do it. However, before we start doing
- 1:15that, we have to recognize you have to stop staring at
- 1:19everybody else's grass. You have to stop comparing.
- 1:23You have to stop complaining that your grass isn't working,
- 1:27that your grass is yellow, that your grass is too tall, that
- 1:30your grass is too long, whatever it might be.
- 1:34We have to start looking at our grass as if it's absolutely the
- 1:41fact that we are not caring for it the way we need to.
- 1:44We need to stop comparing our grass to others and start taking
- 1:48care of our grass the way they might take care of their grass.
- 1:52So when we when we actually, and it's such a great metaphor,
- 1:56because when you say you're looking at the grass, you're
- 1:58actually comparing the end result.
- 2:00You're not comparing the process to it.
- 2:02You are not there all the time to watch what this person may do
- 2:06to take care of their grass. And that might be a lot of
- 2:10things. They might be using fertilizer.
- 2:12They might be regularly watering.
- 2:14They might be, you know, out there aerating, giving it all
- 2:18kinds of, you know, nutrients that you are not putting on
- 2:22yours. And what a great metaphor that
- 2:24is for life because there are so many times where we sit there
- 2:27and we say things and we're like, well, I'm looking at so
- 2:31and so and she gets this and she gets this, But you're not
- 2:34recognizing that this person gets up at 4:00 in the morning.
- 2:38They they go to the gym before anything else even happens.
- 2:42They're doing all the little tiny things that matter into the
- 2:46the world of self development and self growth and outcomes.
- 2:49And they are excelling because of that.
- 2:52And you're looking at their end result and you're judging it and
- 2:55you're saying, well, that grass looks awesome and I want to be
- 2:59over there. Well, but why?
- 3:01Why do you want to be over there?
- 3:02Because, you know, we all know we've all been in those
- 3:05situations where we've actually said, well, my job sucks and I
- 3:09want to go somewhere else. And if in fact, during the
- 3:11pandemic that happened a lot, a lot of people left their jobs
- 3:15because they thought it looked better somewhere else and then
- 3:17they go to the new place and then they're miserable
- 3:20afterwards, they're like, oh, this is the worst thing ever.
- 3:23I this isn't at all what I wanted.
- 3:25I want to go back to my old job and they feel foolish for for
- 3:29leaving. But it's all back to this
- 3:32principle of looking and comparing, looking and
- 3:35comparing. And sometimes we look at surface
- 3:37and we don't look below And one thing especially in you know,
- 3:41the the job oriented space, you'll look at tasks, you'll
- 3:46look at specific benefits, you'll look at certain things.
- 3:48But you don't look at culture. And you just because someone
- 3:51says they have a culture on paper does not mean that the
- 3:54culture is actually real. And unless you dove in and
- 3:57actually asked to talk to people, you know, ask people who
- 4:01work there what it's like, you'll never really know.
- 4:04It's just the nature of the beast.
- 4:06So again, taking care of the grass means you're actually
- 4:11doing your homework. You're doing all the stuff that
- 4:14you need to do in order to figure it out and really making
- 4:18sure that before you are done with something, someone,
- 4:21somewhere, you have to give yourself the gift of sitting
- 4:26there and saying am I doing all the things that I could do,
- 4:29should do, would do in order to make make sure I'm getting the
- 4:33most out of it. And I'll tell you 99.9% of the
- 4:38people I speak to work with are not and myself included.
- 4:42I know there are things that I as much as I do and and am.
- 4:46There's always stuff that I could be doing better and making
- 4:48better, and that's just part of understanding the process of
- 4:53saying this is about growing. Being a human is about growing,
- 4:57and this is a big chunk of it. So do yourself a favor.
- 5:00Stop comparing your lawn to everybody else's.
- 5:02Stop comparing the grass. Start looking at yourself.
- 5:06Take care of your lawn. Water your lawn.
- 5:10Give yourself the gift of being able to do that, because it's a
- 5:14tremendous thing when you recognize, hey, I turned my
- 5:17crappy brown, spotty lawn into something amazing.
- 5:21All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:24see you tomorrow. Bye.
