Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to World View Matters, discussing controversial issues, discerning current events,
- 0:10defending biblical Christianity.
- 0:13No topic off limits.
- 0:16And now, here's your host, David Fierazzo.
- 0:19Hello, friends.
- 0:20Thank you so much for tuning in, for sharing the podcast, listening, watching.
- 0:25We're going down Anda today, one of our great dear brothers, Dean Dwyer, pastor of
- 0:31Isar Street Baptist Church, and to Wumba, Australia, the website is Isar Street, ST,
- 0:38Isar Street, Baptist Church.com.
- 0:42And of course, you can get a lot of Dean's articles over at Harbinger's Daily.
- 0:46He's got a page there, Harbinger's Daily.com.
- 0:51Dean, so good to have you, brother.
- 0:54Thanks for getting up early with us.
- 0:57Thank you, David.
- 0:58Yes, from all the way down in the Southern Hemisphere, G'day to you, your team, all your
- 1:03viewers and listeners.
- 1:04And thanks for mentioning Harbinger's Daily as well, they're great supporters of our
- 1:08ministry.
- 1:09I see they're going through a fundraiser at the moment, so I want to encourage all who
- 1:11are able to financially support them, please do so, because it is a wonderful, wonderful
- 1:17ministry.
- 1:18It is the season, it's our fundraiser too, so great minds think alike.
- 1:23So Dean and I talked about all the possible things we could discuss today, and we're
- 1:28going to talk about American voters and kind of like we have a little victory, brief
- 1:34reprieve or victory over socialism, Marxism, and the Australian government dissing Israel
- 1:40and how Australia kind of keeps an eye on American politics.
- 1:44We'll talk about all that, before we do, I want to give you an opportunity to share
- 1:49a little bit about, we haven't talked about this in a while, sound the alarms, sound the
- 1:53alarms.com, remind us of what that's about.
- 1:57Yeah, so sound the alarms is our system ministry, so that is our vehicle for promoting Bible
- 2:03prophecy and the biblical worldviews, so people can visit sound the alarms.com.
- 2:09They'll find a lot of material which is mirrored from the Isle of Street site, but as I
- 2:14said, that is our specific ministry vehicle for Bible prophecy.
- 2:18As we all know, as the remnant church, we are watchmen on the wall, and so this is an
- 2:24important aspect of any ministry is being in a position to discern what's happening within
- 2:30Bible prophecy and outline what God's word says about it.
- 2:33Unfortunately, I think at the moment as we get towards the end of the church age, there
- 2:37is a lot of sensationalism out there, so I think there's a high degree of caution that's
- 2:42needed to be exercised by believers because there can be material that takes people away
- 2:47from the Word of God, so we always want to, and this is why I appreciate your show so much,
- 2:52David.
- 2:53We always want to bring it back to the truth of the Scriptures and see what God says
- 2:58on a particular matter.
- 2:59Amen, and we're going to dive into that and then just look at the perspective of what
- 3:03happened with the election and where things are at now with Dean in a minute, but I want
- 3:09to give you an opportunity to share about a very sweet voice from your church.
- 3:14Her name is Ange Leman, and there's a song that she put out on your YouTube channel,
- 3:21Isle of Street Baptist Church, YouTube channel is called, Your Word is True.
- 3:26Just tell us a little bit about that briefly.
- 3:28Amen.
- 3:29Well, as the title gives away, this is a song that Ange wrote under inspiration of the
- 3:36Holy Spirit, and as you mentioned, she is a beautiful soul, beautiful voice, and so this
- 3:42song was written.
- 3:43She just sat down at the piano one day and she was really convicted.
- 3:47She'd caught up with some people and they were talking about the Word of God, and she just
- 3:50felt this deep conviction come over her about writing a song, about the truth of God's
- 3:57word, and so this song was poured into her, like many good Christian songwriters, they have
- 4:01a testimony where they say, you know, I tried to write things in the flesh and it just didn't
- 4:05work, but she just sat at the piano in the spirit, and this was poured into her, and the
- 4:11song is just absolutely beautiful, and so very capably backed up as well by our choir.
- 4:18So Ange is the main vocalist and pianist on the track, and then we have the choir in
- 4:24the back there as well.
- 4:26Shockingly, I wasn't asked to join the choir, David, because I can I say my singing voice
- 4:34is akin to an elephant in labor, so we can't auto tune that out.
- 4:40For those who have not heard an elephant in labor, use your imagination.
- 4:46That's funny, that's funny, Dean.
- 4:48So let's jump into the topic today.
- 4:51I told you before we got on the podcast, it's very interesting to me to hear someone's
- 4:57view outside of America looking at what happens here politically, culturally with the church
- 5:03in America, and that's all what we're going to discuss today, because several weeks ago
- 5:08the Cultural Research Center, George Barna, came out with a lot of information and a
- 5:14breakdown of how Christians and how Americans and people just voted or not voted in this
- 5:23election.
- 5:24It said Americans' faith, core values, drove Trump to landslide election victory, and
- 5:31that's according to this research.
- 5:34So according to them, it says Christian support was crucial, even though millions of Christians
- 5:39still didn't vote, yet those who did made a crucial impact in this election in the landslide
- 5:47victory, and young adults and Hispanics, surprisingly, especially the young adult part.
- 5:54That's what, Dean, that's one thing that really surprised me, contributed to the success
- 5:59if you're a Christian conservative, independent, you know, believer in America, and you don't
- 6:05support the Marxist unbiblical leftist worldview, then you're thinking, wow, that's interesting
- 6:12that that really made an impact.
- 6:14So let's break this down.
- 6:16You sent a lot of notes over based on this same research, and so let's break it down step
- 6:22by step.
- 6:23Whatever you want to share first, right off the top, your view of what's going on here,
- 6:29what God might be doing.
- 6:30Sure, thank you.
- 6:32Can I start by saying that it might be foreign to Americans, but Australians do have a key
- 6:38interest and a key perspective on American politics, because what happens in America does
- 6:44impact not only the world, but Australia specifically, and that's for a number of reasons,
- 6:48I guess, because of some key political, military, and intelligence alliances.
- 6:54So we are pretty tightly knit together.
- 6:56So you will find that Australians have a key interest in American politics for that particular
- 7:02reason.
- 7:03I think socially as well, there's a big impact that America has on Australia.
- 7:09And so as you said, a lot of Western nations at the moment, they're gripping with socialist
- 7:15and Marxist and communist policies.
- 7:17And so this is where Australia is at, where in kind of this strange transitional period
- 7:21where we're going from somewhat a free democratic nation into a socialist country.
- 7:27So we are as well in a strange place just like America is.
- 7:32So this is why in Australia, we often like to talk about American politics because we
- 7:37know that we'll have a significant impact on where we head.
- 7:41But can we start by saying, as you mentioned in the Banner Report, that once again, Christian
- 7:47support was crucial for the outcome of the election.
- 7:50And many Australians, I know we're cheering Trump's victory over Harris as much as many
- 7:56Americans were.
- 7:58But when I looked at some of the Australian statistics and polls here, what I was disappointed
- 8:02to see was that in Australia, had we had the same choice between Trump and Harris, 67%
- 8:08of Australians would have gone in the direction of Harris, which is really disappointing.
- 8:13But I guess that just confirms what we are feeling is that Australia is starting to
- 8:17lurch to the left quite significantly.
- 8:21Starting?
- 8:22Starting here?
- 8:23Well, we're well on the way, unfortunately.
- 8:25Try to arrest that slide, as you know, politically and socially, as just really, really difficult.
- 8:31And so we do as much as we can as church leaders trying to promote the biblical worldview,
- 8:36which socialism and communism is not compatible with the biblical worldview.
- 8:41This is what people aren't grasping.
- 8:43Yeah.
- 8:44Yeah.
- 8:45And you're right.
- 8:46They're not grasping that.
- 8:47I mean, even four to eight years ago, there was a research that came out.
- 8:51I believe I remember 65 roughly percent of young people, millennials, supported socialism.
- 8:58They were supporting Bernie Sanders, the radical from Vermont at the time.
- 9:03And you're thinking, well, this ahead scratcher, and then you have to look at, back up,
- 9:07look at the culture, look at the education system, look at the universities.
- 9:11And you're okay.
- 9:12That makes sense.
- 9:13Dean, before we move on and talk about the fact that 45% of eligible Americans did not
- 9:22vote.
- 9:23In other words, they were either able to vote or are registered and did not vote in Australia.
- 9:31People vote in every election, am I wrong?
- 9:35Now you're not wrong.
- 9:36Yeah.
- 9:37We have a mandatory voting system in Australia, so we don't get to opt out.
- 9:40If you don't vote, then you do get a small fine.
- 9:43Wow.
- 9:44And there are some people who don't vote because of religious belief, some are disinterested.
- 9:51But yeah, in Australia, so for better or worse, our mandatory voting system means that
- 9:56everyone goes to the polls on voting day.
- 10:00And so whether we get a good cross-section of voting based on people's political interest,
- 10:07we're really not sure.
- 10:08But people vote and so an American system where it's not mandatory is a little bit foreign
- 10:15to Australians.
- 10:16So we're quite shocked to see the stats on the fact that 45% of Americans abstained from
- 10:24voting in the latest elections.
- 10:26So that's really foreign to us and we're confused by that because if you are concerned with
- 10:32the direction of your country, then would you not be politically active and ensure that
- 10:37you have a vote which counts towards the direction that you want to see your country go?
- 10:43It's interesting that you would think that everybody, adult, every adult citizen would
- 10:50be really either concerned or engaged.
- 10:54And one of the statistics that Barna and the research center talked about was this, the
- 11:00political engagement dropped significantly with only 44% of adults closely following
- 11:08politics this year and that's down from 58%, almost 60%, just four years ago.
- 11:15What does that indicate, reduced voter enthusiasm for whatever reason?
- 11:21And you can speculate all day long.
- 11:23But I thought that was interesting that political engagement has decreased at a time, Dean
- 11:30Dwyer, where our country could have really lurched to the left and possibly for the last
- 11:38time, if the Marxist and Socialist would have held office.
- 11:45That would have been a very dangerous time for freedom in America and possibly our future.
- 11:50Your thoughts on that?
- 11:51Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:52And again, it comes back to voter engagement.
- 11:55So again, we find it confusing that people would be not engaged, but there were three main
- 12:00areas where people indicated that they didn't vote.
- 12:04One was disinterest.
- 12:05They just lost particular interest in what was going on politically.
- 12:11We can appreciate that.
- 12:12But again, if you're going to show disinterest at that level, then don't complain when
- 12:19policies go in the opposite direction and freedom start to be taken away.
- 12:25In the disenfranchisement, I mean, I know that there are a lot of pastors and podcasters
- 12:29in America who were really impressing upon people, Christians in particular, that it was
- 12:32going to be very, very important to vote because we know that there are political parties
- 12:38who do want to press socialism and communism.
- 12:42And so again, it comes back to the lack of education, particularly in the youth, that do
- 12:47not understand what socialism and communism is.
- 12:51Exactly.
- 12:52After our break, we'll talk, we might talk a little bit more about that because there's
- 12:55some really alarming statistics on how many young people want to see socialist and communist
- 13:01policies introduced into Western systems.
- 13:05Well, you say you mentioned, and we're going to keep going back and forth to Australia.
- 13:10And then back to America here.
- 13:12And you mentioned in the notes you sent me, one in three people in Australia do want
- 13:20socialism, even though they can't accurately define it.
- 13:25So that sounds so American.
- 13:27I mean, you look at our universities, they call it higher education, but I think that's
- 13:32not an accurate description of what happens at the colleges.
- 13:38Alex Newman calls them, what is it?
- 13:40No, that's the, he calls K through 12, the government brainwashed camps.
- 13:44I can't remember what he calls the universities.
- 13:46But so you've got people that want socialism, but they don't really understand the world
- 13:52wide horrors and failures of socialism and the death that has been caused by that ideology.
- 14:03It really is sad as the ignorance of history.
- 14:06Just brief comment on that and then we'll take a break.
- 14:10Yeah, absolutely.
- 14:11In the 20th century alone, 262 million people lost their lives under communist or fascist
- 14:20governments, 262 million, more than any, all of the wars combined.
- 14:25That's so brilliant.
- 14:26I mean, I've heard some of the arguments.
- 14:28They say, well, the reason socialism or Marxism failed is because it wasn't carried out
- 14:33properly and I'm thinking, oh my goodness, they've had enough tries at it in some of these
- 14:38countries.
- 14:39Anyway, Dean Dwyer's our guest day, again, friends, the website harborsesdaily.com or

- 16:07Dean Dwyer, our guest today, so let's compare America and Australia one more time in what
- 16:13voters consider important issues.
- 16:16And you mentioned three hot button topics in the US.
- 16:20Go ahead.
- 16:22So in the US, the three main topics of interest were inflation, 38%.
- 16:29Immigration and border control, obviously a well-publicized issue in the US at the moment, 30%
- 16:35of people were interested in that abortion, 23%.
- 16:39So it goes to prove that unfortunately, let's call it what it is, baby killing is still
- 16:45top of the agenda of many politicians.
- 16:47And that's the same in Australia as well.
- 16:49When we had a recent state election, it was surprising to see on the voting ballots.
- 16:55We, I said to someone, we fundamentally had a choice between a Christian party, a party
- 16:59which wanted to legalize marijuana, a party which wanted to introduce communism and a
- 17:05party that wanted to keep killing babies.
- 17:07That's fundamentally the choices that many Western politicians put forward.
- 17:13In Australia, it was somewhat similar.
- 17:17It's a big housing affordability crisis in Australia.
- 17:21So in Australian terms, around 36% of people were mainly concerned about that.
- 17:28Cost of living, which is somewhat like inflation, was around 34%.
- 17:34Healthcare quality and affordability.
- 17:35Healthcare is a major issue in Australia.
- 17:37We have a socialized healthcare system, but it costs a lot of money to run as you can
- 17:43appreciate.
- 17:44So roughly one in three Australians were very concerned at the latest, vote of polls
- 17:49in relation to affordability.
- 17:51But what I will mention is that climate change is slipping way down the list.
- 17:55Yes.
- 17:56And so, yeah.
- 17:57So in Australia, I mean, they ran a poll I think in November last year, 20% of Australians
- 18:02were concerned about climate change in six months that dropped 7% down to 13%.
- 18:08So it does prove that as other issues come to the fore, particularly around cost of living
- 18:14housing affordability, healthcare, then people's interest in climate change simply is disintegrating.
- 18:21But yet many governments, and Australia government in particular, keeps pushing it and keeps
- 18:28trying to fund it, even though many Australians are simply not interested in it.
- 18:32But this comes back to the Romans one mind.
- 18:35You know, we know what Romans one says that people have a debased mind and they wanted
- 18:39to worship the creature more than the creator.
- 18:43So this is the mindset that these people have.
- 18:47Do you have an issue in Australia, I mean, to me, it's a mind numbing reality that some
- 18:53people listen to celebrities when it comes to politics, they couldn't even, they couldn't
- 19:01even mention any of the policies or maybe what's in the party platforms.
- 19:04But they'll be able to rehearse a talking point or two of a celebrity endorses and most
- 19:09of them obviously are the leftist or Democrat or socialist.
- 19:13So you know who they're endorsing.
- 19:15And to see people react to that, what's your take on that Dean over there in Australia?
- 19:19Well, David, mercifully celebrity endorsements are not a thing in Australia and we are so
- 19:26glad for it because as an outside observer, it is really cringey to watch Kamala Harris
- 19:32bring Beyoncé and whoever else onto the stage.
- 19:36But it works because the stats from America indicate that among black church goers, 21%
- 19:43were influenced by the celebrity vote, comes down to young born again Christians at 16%.
- 19:49So it obviously does work and politicians won't engage in this type of practice unless
- 19:55they do know that it generates votes and clearly based on those statistics it does, which
- 19:59is it sounds funny to say because I think the influence that pastors had through the
- 20:06Banner Report, I think it was only 8%.
- 20:08So you're looking at at least double or three times the amount of influence that a celebrity
- 20:14has over a pastor.
- 20:16So that tells you a little bit about where we are socially, where people are trusting celebrities
- 20:22more than those who are in the pulpit defining a biblical worldview and teaching the truth
- 20:27in God's word.
- 20:28We'll put the link to this in the podcast notes, Jeff make a note of that so people can
- 20:34look at the Banner Research because there's a chart on the results by religious voting
- 20:41segments and it talks something very interesting, Dean, self-identified Christians.
- 20:49And that's a very interesting term because people identify as transgender and sadly some
- 20:57people that go to church identify as Christian but they do not have a biblical worldview.
- 21:02So that can be a little confusing but I wanted to ask you what makes a self-identified Christian
- 21:09and you wrote a little bit about that, you sent me some notes on that and we've got about
- 21:14six and a half minutes left so share whatever you'd like to about that.
- 21:18Yeah, as you say whenever I hear someone use the term I identify as then I start to get
- 21:24a little bit nervous because the reality might be something very different and I think
- 21:29this is part of the key problem with this segment of self-identified Christians because
- 21:35you and I know what a true Christian is but we can't assume that anyone who walks within
- 21:41the doors of a church anymore and says I am a Christian is in fact a true follower of
- 21:45Jesus Christ and I think that I record you mentioned on one of your shows recently that
- 21:51the church is becoming its own mission field because we assume that the person sitting
- 21:56next to us in the seat is saved but I don't think we can make that assumption anymore
- 22:01because we do have this growing segment of this category of self-identified Christians.
- 22:06So the problem with the self-identification is that they don't necessarily have a biblical
- 22:11worldview and there was one previous banner report I think it was from 2021 and it had
- 22:17indicated that there is a real big segment of this category in America but when it comes
- 22:23down to the belief system only around 9% had a biblical worldview.
- 22:29There were many that there was in the high 50% that didn't believe the Holy Spirit was
- 22:34a real living being again around 56% believed in karma.
- 22:42A lot of them might be saved so this even though they were the term Christian we know that
- 22:49they would be Christian in name only so even though they had a good representation good
- 22:55vote of turn out in terms of the election they were obviously influential in relation
- 22:59to it.
- 23:00So our challenge is not about getting them to vote our challenge is getting them to be
- 23:04saved in Christ.
- 23:05Yes.
- 23:06Yes.
- 23:07They saved their worldview and their hearts will change thanks to the work that God does
- 23:13through his Holy Spirit in them and that changes their actions if you change their heart change
- 23:18their worldview their actions will change they'll support biblical ideas, principles,
- 23:24policies very briefly and we're going back to this quote self identified you have to put
- 23:29Christians and air quotes 64% voted for of atheists voted for Kamala Harris 50% of
- 23:39people that had other faiths not Christian in other words voted for Harris and almost
- 23:4750% of Catholics voted for Kamala Harris very interesting and yet confusing stats but
- 23:55one takeaway I want to get out before we have to wrap up this podcast with Dean Dwyer
- 24:00and then I'll let you just take it wherever you want Dean even though self identified Christians
- 24:06might not necessarily hold a biblical worldview.
- 24:10We believe that in the majority they still voted for policies or a platform which is more
- 24:17consistent with biblical Christianity your thoughts on that.
- 24:24Which is interesting because when you look at the stats and the earlier indication of
- 24:28around only 9% having a biblical worldview how are they being influenced now perhaps they're
- 24:33more conservative in their general approach anyway but perhaps they've overcome I mean we talked
- 24:39before about some of the three D's of reasons why people didn't vote and top of those was
- 24:46disinterest second was dislike of the candidate and third was they didn't think their vote would
- 24:52matter so obviously within the self identified category they overcome a lot of these issues that
- 24:57affect other voters but when it comes to dislike of candidate I mean look who does like a political
- 25:03candidate we know we're not trying to pair up our daughters or sons we're not voting for a
- 25:09pastor to come into the church we're not trying to make a new friend we're just voting for someone
- 25:14who we believe will represent the greater majority of the voter interest in a particular nation so
- 25:20as you said it has to come back to policy and so very few people at the moment are looking at the
- 25:26policy and this is why politicians particularly in America like to trot out the celebrities it's
- 25:32almost like a magic show look over here and look at what this celebrity is saying don't look at
- 25:36our policies because there's there's really no substance to them and I think that was the problem
- 25:41with Kamala Harris's campaign there was really no substance to her policies so she had to trot out
- 25:47the shiny things to distract voters from the fact that she didn't have policy so that she could
- 25:54steer votes in her direction that's that's the sum total of how we observe things from Australia
- 25:58I like the way you put that so she had to try to out shiny things is that what you said
- 26:03that's right yeah you know I can I can I got a picture in my mind I mean yeah they look
- 26:08hey look at this I'll show you but there's it's it's what did you say no substance and that's
- 26:14what even a lot on the left Democrats and socialists were saying why don't they talk about
- 26:23whatever it might be issues that are important instead of you know so they didn't have it they
- 26:28had the talking points but they had no substance so I think a lot of people dean final minute saw
- 26:34through the facade when they were saying pay no attention to the candidate in the suit behind
- 26:41the curtain that some would call Jezebel but anyway your final thoughts in the last minute
- 26:47and we're going to do another podcast with you after this yeah thank you well look at the concept
- 26:52of a magic show the magician is not there to fool you the magician is there to make sure you fool
- 26:59yourself and I think unfortunately that sums up what's happened in the recent election
- 27:04there are a lot of people who filled themselves into believing that the Democrat Party and Kamala Harris
- 27:09reflected the interest of the majority of Americans all the polls were going to Harris
