- 0:21Speaker 2: Kraken and the Edmonton Oilers, second matchup of the season,
- 0:25Speaker 2: by the way, going down and the Crack and trying
- 0:28Speaker 2: to make it three in a row all time head
- 0:30Speaker 2: to head against the Oilers, something that's been pretty challenging
- 0:33Speaker 2: considering the stranglehold that Edmonton has had recently in this
- 0:38Speaker 2: head to head series. All the action coming your way
- 0:41Speaker 2: for a Saturday one pm faceoff at Climbing Pledge Arena,

- 0:58Speaker 2: you can join us flagship Coverge take Note Sports Radio
- 1:02Speaker 2: nine point fifty k JR, and of course all across
- 1:05Speaker 2: as usual on the Global Credit Union Kraken Audio Network,
- 1:09Speaker 2: John Forsland joining us here in just a bit, we'll
- 1:12Speaker 2: talk about the states of the Kraken in just a bit,
- 1:15Speaker 2: the injury bug going around, comparable as well to the
- 1:18Speaker 2: rest of the league, and what kind of an oiler
- 1:21Speaker 2: team the Kraken could be facing coming up for this
- 1:24Speaker 2: matinee faceoff as Edmondton comes off another clucker a three
- 1:29Speaker 2: losing to Dallas. But again it is early in this season,
- 1:33Speaker 2: and we'll discuss more of those matters coming up here
- 1:35Speaker 2: with crack and TV play by play voice John FORESLND.
- 1:39Speaker 2: We flashed back to last game the Krack in facing
- 1:42Speaker 2: Dallas on Wednesday, with as much of a full lineup
- 1:45Speaker 2: as they had in the return of Jared mckinn, but
- 1:48Speaker 2: also facing a Dallas team that has proven to be
- 1:52Speaker 2: a pretty stiff challenge no matter what day, no matter
- 1:55Speaker 2: what seasons.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Club came out McCann fire just riding the thanks got
- 2:04Speaker 3: Brandon Montour a sharp angle shot from the right.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Corner goal line.
- 2:10Speaker 4: It goes off of Casey the Smith and in the sea.
- 2:13Speaker 3: Level Crackett has tied the game at one ten fifty
- 2:17Speaker 3: four left the period number one.
- 2:19Speaker 5: Well, it starts with a shot down the middle from
- 2:21Speaker 5: a defenseman pitching in.
- 2:22Speaker 6: The puck goes from.
- 2:23Speaker 1: The corner of Monteur is the guy that jumps on
- 2:25Speaker 1: that loose pucking rather than looking for the pass. He's
- 2:28Speaker 1: gonna shooter his mentality. Here's Tyler Sagan to the high spot, left.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Side, back door, right on the goal. Joey the Cord
- 2:35Speaker 3: made the first, saying when they tap it in on
- 2:37Speaker 3: the rebound and Dallas they take a two to oneth Leandle.
- 2:40Speaker 6: From their own zone. Here come the cracket through center right.
- 2:43Speaker 6: Vincedun's got speed done.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Left side sis stop.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Ben stand over the left side line, walks in tap
- 2:57Speaker 3: of the circle. He twisted arrest there and by Casey
- 3:01Speaker 3: the Smith, we're tied two two nineteen forty two. Left
- 3:06Speaker 3: here in the third Bitsta pick up pluck up in
- 3:08Speaker 3: the hash marks in front of joined the cord got
- 3:11Speaker 3: a full head of steam coming down that middle right
- 3:13Speaker 3: side of the neutral zone.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Cut to his left is a left shot.
- 3:17Speaker 3: He beafed the Smith over the club head two now
- 3:20Speaker 3: just saying it left side, drops it off or a
- 3:22Speaker 3: shot and they score Flatislav klia Chunnock from the left
- 3:29Speaker 3: wing pings it off the pipe and in by Joey
- 3:32Speaker 3: the Cord Crack it with some work to do down
- 3:36Speaker 3: three to two.
- 3:36Speaker 2: So so close, but the Kraken come up short in
- 3:39Speaker 2: a three to two defeat to Dallas. Vladyslav Kolyia Chonok
- 3:43Speaker 2: had the game winning goal lates in period three, which
- 3:46Speaker 2: didn't hurt the Kraken, and they're standing too much in
- 3:49Speaker 2: the Western Conference. They're still entering today in a playoff spot,
- 3:53Speaker 2: but it's still pretty tight right now in the Western Conference.
- 3:56Speaker 2: They stand three points back in the first place Anaheim
- 3:59Speaker 2: Ducks and just one point clear of the Western Conference
- 4:03Speaker 2: cut line that shared between the Utah Mammoth and the
- 4:07Speaker 2: San Jose Sharks. The Crack and also again dealing with
- 4:10Speaker 2: another injury blow, this time is Jaden Schwartz. He left
- 4:14Speaker 2: the game on Wednesday in period two after visibly becoming
- 4:18Speaker 2: entangled with Vladislav Colia Shonak at the front of the
- 4:21Speaker 2: Dallas net. Schwartz ruled out lower body injury and the
- 4:24Speaker 2: Krack and then saying Friday he'll be expected to miss
- 4:27Speaker 2: the next six weeks, so the Crack can certainly right
- 4:30Speaker 2: now in an uphill battle to fill their scoring needs.
- 4:33Speaker 2: He departs for the time being as their leading point getter,
- 4:37Speaker 2: but of course leadership and fundamental play that he brings
- 4:40Speaker 2: certainly a big piece of the Kraken foundation that they
- 4:43Speaker 2: have to find a way to fill for the time
- 4:46Speaker 2: being while he is out of the lineup. Well, the
- 4:48Speaker 2: Krack and gathering again back at Kraken Community Ice Plugs
- 4:51Speaker 2: for a Friday practice after the team celebrated the Thanksgiving
- 4:55Speaker 2: holiday with food and family. One such case is Crack
- 5:00Speaker 2: defenseman Ryan lind Gren, originally from Minneapolis, and when you
- 5:04Speaker 2: talk about the Kraken and how they're handling the loss
- 5:07Speaker 2: of Jaden Schwartz, the potential return of Coppoccos soon to
- 5:11Speaker 2: the lineup, Thanksgiving rituals, and much more. Lynd Gren's got
- 5:15Speaker 2: plenty of knowledge on it, and we caught up with
- 5:17Speaker 2: him after practice on Friday ed Craken Community Ice Plex. Well,
- 5:20Speaker 2: first off, I hope that the off day treated you
- 5:22Speaker 2: and everybody else will walk me back through what Thanksgiving
- 5:25Speaker 2: Day is like for you and those around you.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a lot of fun. I had my
- 5:30Speaker 4: girlfriend's parents here and just really nice to spend the
- 5:33Speaker 4: day with them and you know, eat some good food,
- 5:37Speaker 4: have a day to kind of relax, watch football and
- 5:39Speaker 4: take a little break. So yeah, it was fun and
- 5:42Speaker 4: excited to get back at it tomorrow.
- 5:44Speaker 7: What was the go to dish on the table for Thanksgiving?
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah, Stuffing's kind of my my favorite. Yeah, my mom
- 5:51Speaker 4: used to make it growing up, and it's always something
- 5:53Speaker 4: that I've loved. I like turkey, but yeah, stuffing is
- 5:57Speaker 4: definitely my favorite.
- 5:58Speaker 7: Take me through these first rough twenty five percent of
- 6:01Speaker 7: the season. There's often talk about when you face this team,
- 6:03Speaker 7: you're facing a team that's tight checking its discipline. But
- 6:06Speaker 7: what are you seeing so far from these guys that's
- 6:08Speaker 7: leading into how much they're buying into this identity?
- 6:11Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been it's been good. I think exactly that
- 6:14Speaker 4: we're buying with the identity of what we want to be,
- 6:17Speaker 4: you know, laying stress from from the get go that
- 6:20Speaker 4: we want to be a hard defensive team to play against.
- 6:22Speaker 4: And you know, I think we've done a good job
- 6:25Speaker 4: of that. I think everyone's bought into, you know, that role,
- 6:28Speaker 4: and I think the next step for us is to
- 6:31Speaker 4: you know, get a little more offensive, you know, a
- 6:33Speaker 4: little more dangerous in the offensive zone. But the only
- 6:36Speaker 4: way we don't want to get away from, you know,
- 6:38Speaker 4: what's been making us successful these first twenty five games,
- 6:41Speaker 4: And yeah, we just got to keep building up of that.
- 6:44Speaker 7: How do you recover from lostening to a guy like
- 6:45Speaker 7: Schwartze And what have you learned as far as how
- 6:48Speaker 7: the way this team plays and how it can sustain
- 6:50Speaker 7: his self here with injuries from time to time.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a horrible log sports. He's such an important
- 6:54Speaker 4: part of this team. You know, not only you know
- 6:57Speaker 4: what he does on the ice, and you know how
- 7:00Speaker 4: important he is he is out there. He's such a
- 7:03Speaker 4: great guy off the ice and you know, a leader
- 7:05Speaker 4: that everyone everyone looks to. And I'm so yeah, that's
- 7:08Speaker 4: a tough loss. And but yeah, we've dealt through the
- 7:12Speaker 4: injuries seems like this whole year and just kind of
- 7:15Speaker 4: had that that next next guy up mentality, And you know,
- 7:18Speaker 4: the guys that have come in the lineup have done
- 7:20Speaker 4: a really good job.
- 7:21Speaker 7: How do you prepare for Edmonton versus any other team.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, they're obviously some some big stars on their team
- 7:27Speaker 4: and a team that's very dynamic offensively. So you know,
- 7:31Speaker 4: we just got to do a good job of making
- 7:33Speaker 4: their their their night hard and you know, making sure
- 7:36Speaker 4: we manage the puck how.
- 7:38Speaker 7: Do you also view the neutral zone and how they
- 7:40Speaker 7: play as an area of importance here for a game
- 7:43Speaker 7: like this.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean we we were just watching some video
- 7:46Speaker 4: on them before practice. You know, they like to circle
- 7:50Speaker 4: back and and gain speed, and you know they're a
- 7:53Speaker 4: team that wants to carry the puck through the neutral zone.
- 7:57Speaker 4: You know, instead of set of kind of chip it in,
- 7:58Speaker 4: they want to make plays. So you know, it takes
- 8:01Speaker 4: all of us to make sure we're slowing them down
- 8:03Speaker 4: and helping each other out.
- 8:04Speaker 2: The first time we can say it this season, we've
- 8:06Speaker 2: got a Matt and a going here one PM, cracking
- 8:09Speaker 2: Edmonton oilers on the TV side. John Forestland of Courses
- 8:13Speaker 2: on the call, as always our esteem guest and our
- 8:17Speaker 2: friend as well, joining us here for cracking this morning, Johnny,
- 8:20Speaker 2: Happy Thanksgiving? How was your Thanksgiving? And what was on
- 8:24Speaker 2: the table?
- 8:24Speaker 6: All? We had a variety of things. We're I'm not
- 8:27Speaker 6: a big turkey guy, Michael, so we had actually we
- 8:31Speaker 6: had we had beef.
- 8:33Speaker 2: How's that sound, Oh you're speaking my language. Steak was
- 8:37Speaker 2: some of the menu.
- 8:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not going to conform the traditions and you
- 8:41Speaker 6: know what you're supposed to eat because I'm not sure
- 8:45Speaker 6: when we were all fought then we were part of
- 8:49Speaker 6: this world. We were told we had to eat turkey.
- 8:51Speaker 6: I guess I did that the majority of my life.
- 8:53Speaker 6: But now that I'm older, I'm going to make some
- 8:56Speaker 6: different decisions. We had a great Thanksgiving, my families here
- 9:00Speaker 6: and we had a great time.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Maddie Beniers told me a few days ago he and
- 9:04Speaker 2: his family the tradition is steak in lasagna. And then
- 9:08Speaker 2: on my side of this, on my side, see, I
- 9:11Speaker 2: don't mind turkey, but I've got picky eaters who are
- 9:15Speaker 2: ten and seven as far as ages and my kids.
- 9:18Speaker 2: My ten year old spoke up and wanted steak. I
- 9:21Speaker 2: like steak, My wife loves steak. My seven year old
- 9:25Speaker 2: will try it, so why not go a steak?
- 9:27Speaker 4: Then?
- 9:28Speaker 6: Well, that's again, just give it a shot and you'll
- 9:31Speaker 6: be pleasantly surprised and your life will be great. And
- 9:36Speaker 6: you know we're I'm with Maddie on this. We did
- 9:39Speaker 6: not have lasagnia. I think that'll be in and around Christmas.
- 9:44Speaker 6: But we did have some clam chowder, so that was
- 9:48Speaker 6: interesting in.
- 9:49Speaker 2: That ghost favorite and uh West Coast staple here.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Yeah, there you go.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Wyeawful, wonderful. Well, great to hear that it's going well
- 9:56Speaker 2: with family out there, and we're going to look forward
- 9:58Speaker 2: to this coming up here for the one pm game.
- 10:00Speaker 2: But I mean, I've asked this similarly with others and
- 10:03Speaker 2: through twenty three games, Johnny eleven six and six, twenty
- 10:07Speaker 2: eight points. So how would you have reacted two months
- 10:10Speaker 2: ago if told the Kraken are a playoff team after Thanksgiving?
- 10:15Speaker 6: We'd be overjoyed with it. I mean, you're going from
- 10:17Speaker 6: you know, the depth of the league last year and
- 10:19Speaker 6: a team that struggled so much defensively it couldn't get
- 10:22Speaker 6: out of its own way, a team that still struggled
- 10:25Speaker 6: to score goals. That really hasn't gone away much. But
- 10:28Speaker 6: it's the way they're playing, it's a style they're employing.
- 10:30Speaker 6: It's how relentless there are and how committed they are
- 10:33Speaker 6: to what Lane Lambert tried to establish in the early
- 10:36Speaker 6: stages of training camp. To me, that's what's been so
- 10:39Speaker 6: exciting to watch. And when you just take the record
- 10:42Speaker 6: into account, if someone tells you that in August, July, September,
- 10:45Speaker 6: whenever it is, I mean, you're going to be You're
- 10:48Speaker 6: going to be overjoyed with the record. There's a long
- 10:50Speaker 6: way to go and it's tightly bunched, and we got
- 10:53Speaker 6: all the US Thanksgiving models out there that suggest that,
- 10:56Speaker 6: you know, seventy five percent at least of the time,
- 11:00Speaker 6: you're going to be a favorite team to get into
- 11:03Speaker 6: the playoffs if you're sitting in a playoff spot around
- 11:05Speaker 6: this time of the year. But it's too close league wide,
- 11:09Speaker 6: I think to draw any conclusions unless you're Colorado and
- 11:13Speaker 6: you might go eighty one and one.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Which I think they might still do. At this point.
- 11:17Speaker 2: They are in absolute They just might, Yes.
- 11:19Speaker 6: They just might. Yeah, I think we're going back now.
- 11:22Speaker 2: I think that the Darryl setterphrase about four years ago
- 11:24Speaker 2: when he was talking about a waste of eight days, Yeah, well.
- 11:27Speaker 6: A here's that way right now. They appear to be
- 11:30Speaker 6: that much better than most of the teams. But again,
- 11:33Speaker 6: it's a totally different ball game as the season moves along.
- 11:36Speaker 6: I think you have to take into account the injuries
- 11:39Speaker 6: that we're seeing league wide. They're going to be part
- 11:41Speaker 6: of that too. They've had a couple already, they've survived it,
- 11:44Speaker 6: and that's basically what the teams have to do. In
- 11:46Speaker 6: my opinion, right now is survive because you know, the
- 11:50Speaker 6: crack had lost Jayden Schwartz. We got that news yesterday.
- 11:54Speaker 6: That's a tough pill to swallow. But if you look
- 11:57Speaker 6: around the league, it's every team. So you just have
- 12:01Speaker 6: to adopt the philosophy as a fan of pressing on
- 12:04Speaker 6: with what you have and hope that the team game
- 12:07Speaker 6: is responsible and in play and you're competitive and you
- 12:10Speaker 6: get strong goaltending, and then you're gonna have a chance.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I love the fact that you brought the injury thing
- 12:15Speaker 2: up because I will get to this here in a bit,
- 12:17Speaker 2: but first things first, Individually, the door just keeps revolving here,
- 12:21Speaker 2: at least on the cracking side. Copple Coaco will see
- 12:24Speaker 2: if he is back in here for today. He's making progress,
- 12:27Speaker 2: but there's no Jaden Schwartz and now no Jaden Schwartz
- 12:30Speaker 2: for the next six weeks. So what's your instant reaction
- 12:33Speaker 2: here to the loss of number seventeen and how they
- 12:36Speaker 2: supplement that.
- 12:36Speaker 6: It's disappointing, you know, it's it's like I said, it's
- 12:40Speaker 6: a tough pill for everyone to swallow, from the fans
- 12:43Speaker 6: to the management of the team, the coach and his teammates.
- 12:46Speaker 6: He's a vital part of the team, has been, has
- 12:49Speaker 6: been from day one here. He's a pros pro. He've
- 12:51Speaker 6: talked about his game. But when these players leave the lineup,
- 12:56Speaker 6: you almost have to be tough in your mind, said,
- 13:00Speaker 6: and you almost have to be crass to it and say, okay,
- 13:04Speaker 6: we got to move on. And that's kind of where
- 13:06Speaker 6: it is. And it was too bad that when Coco
- 13:09Speaker 6: finally came back from injury, he was injured again, a
- 13:13Speaker 6: different injury he had to go through. And now it
- 13:15Speaker 6: looks like he's going to be in the lineup this afternoon.
- 13:18Speaker 6: That's a good thing, you know, McCann has recently come back.
- 13:23Speaker 6: But this won't this won't stop. This will be the
- 13:26Speaker 6: situation all season, way too many games in a short
- 13:30Speaker 6: period of time. We all understand why they're doing it
- 13:33Speaker 6: as a league, you know, to get to the Olympics
- 13:35Speaker 6: and have that showcase. I for one, worried about this
- 13:39Speaker 6: before the season started. I'm worried now. I'm worried as
- 13:43Speaker 6: we move along and towards the Olympics and then post Olympics,
- 13:46Speaker 6: because once the circus is over in Italy, then we're
- 13:50Speaker 6: going to get back to a situation where who's left,
- 13:53Speaker 6: who can play? How well can they play? Can teams
- 13:56Speaker 6: resume where they're at? And if I'm at the ownership level,
- 13:59Speaker 6: where I'll never be, But if I were, then I'd
- 14:03Speaker 6: be looking at this holding my breath and very concerned
- 14:06Speaker 6: about why we're doing this and wondering if it is
- 14:09Speaker 6: going to be worth it in the long run. I
- 14:11Speaker 6: hope it is. I hope it's a tremendous success and
- 14:15Speaker 6: it grows the game even further. We've had analympic evolvement
- 14:19Speaker 6: in the past and it's been exciting to watch. I'm
- 14:21Speaker 6: not sure it moves the earth that much, but I
- 14:26Speaker 6: know the Stanley Cup playoffs do. And I just feel
- 14:29Speaker 6: bad if teams lose key components when it looks like
- 14:33Speaker 6: it might be their year and so, and I think
- 14:35Speaker 6: the style of play might to be it's a different subject,
- 14:38Speaker 6: but I think the games, the way they're being played
- 14:39Speaker 6: right now are showing that because you have mixed lineups,
- 14:43Speaker 6: you have a lot of call ups, you know, depending
- 14:45Speaker 6: on the team. It'll be the case again today for
- 14:47Speaker 6: both teams. And so I'm not sure the quality of
- 14:51Speaker 6: play is that great. I don't think it is, in
- 14:53Speaker 6: my opinion.
- 14:54Speaker 2: We talked with head coach Lane Lambert after practice on
- 14:57Speaker 2: Friday and ask him about the system and how how
- 15:00Speaker 2: much it sustains this team with the revolving door as
- 15:03Speaker 2: we set of injuries, and here's Lane Lambert with that reaction.
- 15:06Speaker 8: Well, I think, like I said right from the very beginning,
- 15:08Speaker 8: there's a way to win every hockey game, and your
- 15:12Speaker 8: structure and your system is your safety blanket. And you
- 15:17Speaker 8: know you as long as everybody understands is on the
- 15:19Speaker 8: same page and pulling the rope in the same direction,
- 15:22Speaker 8: you have a chance to win every night. So I
- 15:23Speaker 8: think it's benefited us a great deal, especially with the
- 15:28Speaker 8: injuries we've gone through this year.
- 15:30Speaker 2: So Johnny, you talked about how you kind of feared
- 15:33Speaker 2: this maybe all the way back into the summer seeing
- 15:36Speaker 2: this coming as far as the uptick and injuries across
- 15:38Speaker 2: the league. Advantage Cracking with the way they play how
- 15:42Speaker 2: much here with this schedule coming.
- 15:43Speaker 6: Up, Yeah, it's perfect for the Cracking. See, the Cracking
- 15:47Speaker 6: are the perfect team that have to be fixed defensively,
- 15:50Speaker 6: which they have been. They have been open as a
- 15:54Speaker 6: group to buy into his system, which is important than
- 15:57Speaker 6: they are. You have to be totally committed to play
- 16:00Speaker 6: art style every game. It's not easy to do. At times,
- 16:04Speaker 6: it's hard to watch, but it is the right way
- 16:07Speaker 6: to play. And again, with a little bit more talent
- 16:10Speaker 6: on the roster, you know skilled talent, you know those
- 16:14Speaker 6: that would really bode well for the style that they're playing.
- 16:17Speaker 6: You have to know your personnel. They don't exactly have
- 16:20Speaker 6: game breaking, high end offensive players, but they have very
- 16:24Speaker 6: good players who can play as a team and be
- 16:27Speaker 6: hard to play against. And that's what we saw in
- 16:29Speaker 6: the Dallas game. And you know that Dallas team is
- 16:32Speaker 6: a great team. Yes, they played the night before, but
- 16:35Speaker 6: it was push and shoved back and forth. It also
- 16:38Speaker 6: allows the goaltending, which has been great this season, no
- 16:41Speaker 6: matter who's been in there. It allows the goalies to
- 16:44Speaker 6: flourish under a system that they can read. They're not guessing,
- 16:47Speaker 6: they're not overplaying bucks, they're not spitting out rebounds in
- 16:50Speaker 6: areas where there's lack of coverage. By and large, the
- 16:56Speaker 6: system in front of the three goalies has allowed all
- 16:59Speaker 6: three of them to play at the top of their game.
- 17:02Speaker 6: And that's the first thing and first component you want
- 17:04Speaker 6: in any era of any kind of professional hockey is
- 17:07Speaker 6: solid goaltending. And so they have that you work from
- 17:10Speaker 6: the goal out. You know, the game on Long Island
- 17:13Speaker 6: last weekend, they lose in the past, maybe by a
- 17:16Speaker 6: wide margin in my opinion. Sure it's a goalless hockey game,
- 17:21Speaker 6: and you know, the scoring chances we're few and far
- 17:24Speaker 6: between and all of that. But you know what they
- 17:26Speaker 6: got in late that night. They grinded their way through it.
- 17:30Speaker 6: And that's what we talked about during the summer, the
- 17:32Speaker 6: zero to twelve back to backers night, Right, Why did
- 17:35Speaker 6: it happen? Well, most of the time, it has nothing
- 17:37Speaker 6: to do with travel and fatigue. It has everything to
- 17:40Speaker 6: do with systematic player lack thereof. And if you don't
- 17:43Speaker 6: have a sound system, you know you're going to look
- 17:46Speaker 6: disorganized on the ice. The crack and game in and
- 17:49Speaker 6: game out, win, lose, whatever the situation is. They look organized.
- 17:53Speaker 6: So if they just stay with it, and they have
- 17:54Speaker 6: the perfect group to do that, they should be able
- 17:57Speaker 6: to navigate through a tough schedule and get through a
- 18:00Speaker 6: tough set of injuries because it's basically plug and play
- 18:03Speaker 6: and the next player comes in and assumes a role,
- 18:06Speaker 6: maybe not as good, close enough, and it's just about
- 18:11Speaker 6: being in the neighborhood of a game to win it
- 18:13Speaker 6: and buy and large every game this season, that's been
- 18:15Speaker 6: the case.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Team say percentage coming out of Thanksgiving, the Krack and
- 18:19Speaker 2: are number one in the NHL at five on five,
- 18:22Speaker 2: nine to three four. You can think Joey to coord
- 18:25Speaker 2: Philip Grubauer, Matt Murray, even goaltending coach Colin Zulianello as well.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Here for that. Jared mccannon getting back in for his
- 18:32Speaker 2: first game. It was a while about a month after
- 18:35Speaker 2: his injury. Johnny, what'd you see out of him? And
- 18:38Speaker 2: how much can we take from that game as far
- 18:40Speaker 2: as what he can do to make a difference now.
- 18:42Speaker 6: Well, I think he'll take a step every game. I
- 18:44Speaker 6: thought he was rusty. It was nice. It was nice
- 18:47Speaker 6: to see him out there. Was awful to see him
- 18:49Speaker 6: go down and have an apparent injury right away. Eclipped
- 18:52Speaker 6: with a high stick from Alex Petrovich. That was hard
- 18:54Speaker 6: to watch, but you got to give him some time.
- 18:59Speaker 6: Hopefully today it's even better and moving forward it's even
- 19:02Speaker 6: better than that. But he's a he's a key piece. Obviously,
- 19:06Speaker 6: He's one of these players that can score on his own.
- 19:09Speaker 6: You know, he has the type of shot that can
- 19:11Speaker 6: beat an NHL goalie from distance, the type of shot
- 19:14Speaker 6: that can beat a goalie in type because of the
- 19:16Speaker 6: placement of his shot, Versatile enough to play the middle
- 19:20Speaker 6: if they need him to. So you know, again, it's
- 19:24Speaker 6: it's it's a lose one gain one type situation. Here.
- 19:28Speaker 6: You lose Schwartz, which is which is tough. But hopefully
- 19:32Speaker 6: with each game Jared will get better and better, back
- 19:36Speaker 6: to his old self, stay injury free, and then that'll
- 19:40Speaker 6: be that'll be an important piece because they just they
- 19:43Speaker 6: need every single bit of it. But he is at
- 19:45Speaker 6: least close to what we're talking about at the top
- 19:48Speaker 6: of this interview. You know, I wouldn't consider him in
- 19:51Speaker 6: the upper echelon of elite talent in the NHL, but
- 19:54Speaker 6: he's close enough that he can be a game breaker
- 19:57Speaker 6: for this team. And and that's the case. And I
- 20:00Speaker 6: think in that sense a little bit more of a
- 20:02Speaker 6: game breaker than say Schwartz is. Schwartz is more of
- 20:05Speaker 6: a meat and potatoes outstanding, you know, pro He has
- 20:09Speaker 6: the willingness to go to front of event, maybe more
- 20:11Speaker 6: than McCann, but McCann has that shot and has the
- 20:14Speaker 6: ability to snipe when you need it and when you
- 20:17Speaker 6: need a goal even come through. And he's also a
- 20:19Speaker 6: very good piece to have in three on three overtime,
- 20:21Speaker 6: which it seems like the crack and play at least
- 20:24Speaker 6: twice a week.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Oh and then also for the fact that he told
- 20:27Speaker 2: me that he felt like he swallowed his tooth after
- 20:29Speaker 2: he got hit in the mouth of the high stick
- 20:31Speaker 2: and then he had to basically play on with that thing.
- 20:34Speaker 2: And then there's also a dentist trip involved in between. Yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 2: winning a certainly tough job, but the fun at the
- 20:40Speaker 2: very end of the rope here is certainly well worth
- 20:42Speaker 2: here from that Edmonton ten ten and five Johnny, and
- 20:47Speaker 2: we've heard a lot about, of course, what's happening behind
- 20:50Speaker 2: the scenes, what's happening with goaltending. The Dallas loss led
- 20:54Speaker 2: Connor McDavid to basically say, I don't have answers right now.
- 20:58Speaker 2: What have you come to expect out of edmund with
- 21:00Speaker 2: where they are at this point of the season.
- 21:01Speaker 6: Well, I think it's just about every November they're in
- 21:04Speaker 6: this spot and then when you get to June they're
- 21:07Speaker 6: in the other spot. Right So I don't think they
- 21:10Speaker 6: have the same roster they had last year of the
- 21:14Speaker 6: previous season. I think in terms of their death it's
- 21:17Speaker 6: not as good this time around. They have two been
- 21:20Speaker 6: hit by significant injuries. They thought they were getting closer.
- 21:23Speaker 6: They're going to get you know, they're going to get
- 21:25Speaker 6: Ryan NuGen Hopkins back today, which will help them down
- 21:28Speaker 6: the middle. He's been out for a few weeks. They
- 21:30Speaker 6: thought they were going to get CAAs Barry Kappanan back
- 21:33Speaker 6: in this afternoon. That's not going to be the case.
- 21:35Speaker 6: He was injured in practice the other day. You know.
- 21:39Speaker 6: And these players are important because they play a role
- 21:41Speaker 6: down their forward group, and they're upper end of the
- 21:44Speaker 6: forward group. With just the two players alone and McDavid
- 21:48Speaker 6: and Drysydle is way better than everybody else. And then
- 21:51Speaker 6: when you add a healthy Zach Hyman, it's way better
- 21:53Speaker 6: than we've seen before. On the back end, I think
- 21:57Speaker 6: it's the same. I mean, there's no Jake Walman, he's injured,
- 22:01Speaker 6: but it's still the same type of group that's that's
- 22:03Speaker 6: pretty good, can be average and can also be guilty
- 22:08Speaker 6: of bad turnovers and lackluster play. And you know, in
- 22:12Speaker 6: a situation where they don't help a bewildered goaltending situation,
- 22:17Speaker 6: it looks like it'll be Stuart Skinner today, and if
- 22:20Speaker 6: it is, you know he's in the same boat he's
- 22:22Speaker 6: always been in. I can tell you this because I'm
- 22:24Speaker 6: around them a little bit with the Amazon package. They
- 22:27Speaker 6: love that guy. The players do. They support him, They
- 22:32Speaker 6: want to win for him. He's a good goalie. He's
- 22:35Speaker 6: not a great goalie. He's a good goalie. He's not
- 22:37Speaker 6: the problem. The problem is their their lack of togetherness
- 22:41Speaker 6: as a team, their willingness to dig in harder for
- 22:45Speaker 6: their coach. They seem to be in between right now,
- 22:48Speaker 6: which I think goes away today. I think that obviously,
- 22:52Speaker 6: coming off of the disaster they had in the previous game,
- 22:54Speaker 6: they're going to be very good and the crack and
- 22:57Speaker 6: again will have to be as they were against Dallas,
- 22:59Speaker 6: ready for and measure their game against a team that
- 23:02Speaker 6: still has to be considered a favorite to be in
- 23:04Speaker 6: the top three in the Pacific Division. I think everybody
- 23:07Speaker 6: would consider Edmonton still there because the McDavid dry Sidle
- 23:12Speaker 6: factor is too much at times, and you know those
- 23:16Speaker 6: two bodies you can outscore your issues. And so is
- 23:21Speaker 6: it going to be good enough this season? I don't know,
- 23:23Speaker 6: because they're kind of flirting with it every year. It
- 23:26Speaker 6: was good enough the last couple to get them to
- 23:28Speaker 6: the Stanley Cup final, But again, how often can you
- 23:31Speaker 6: push that button?
- 23:32Speaker 2: They're trying to push it once again. We'll see if
- 23:34Speaker 2: it's gonna work out for them, but you're absolutely right,
- 23:36Speaker 2: it's going to be a tough test. They're coming in
- 23:38Speaker 2: here for the second matchup of the season. Appreciate this, Johnny. Hey,
- 23:42Speaker 2: Thanksgiving tells us to enjoy whatever you want. There to
- 23:45Speaker 2: be different. So you and me were asked, where's the beef, Well,
- 23:50Speaker 2: it's on the table.
- 23:51Speaker 6: I go back to the beach on the table. Yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 6: that's right, the beast on the beach on the table.
- 23:56Speaker 6: I hope all the fans had a great holiday and
- 24:00Speaker 6: are thankful for where the team's at right now, because
- 24:02Speaker 6: it's competitive and it's right there, and I don't think
- 24:07Speaker 6: it's going to change the rest of the season, and
- 24:10Speaker 6: this team should go right down to the wire and
- 24:12Speaker 6: push for a playoffs spot, and that's what we're all
- 24:14Speaker 6: hoping for.
- 24:14Speaker 2: My sentiments to the fans, also my sentiments to you,
- 24:17Speaker 2: my friend, Johnny, appreciate this. Have a good call.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Thank you, Okay, Mike, you take.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Care, Thank you you too. Always powerful words of wisdom
- 24:25Speaker 2: from our friend John Forestland TV played by play voice
- 24:28Speaker 2: on the Crack at Hockey Network also on Amazon Prime
- 24:31Speaker 2: for the national side. Well again, the Crack end looking
- 24:34Speaker 2: to get a win here and match up number two
- 24:36Speaker 2: of the regular season against Edmonton, and if they can
- 24:39Speaker 2: pull that off, it would give them three consecutive wins
- 24:43Speaker 2: all time over the Oilers for the first time in
- 24:46Speaker 2: franchise history. The Crack and beat Edmonton first game of
- 24:50Speaker 2: the series three to two at Climbing Pledge Arena back
- 24:53Speaker 2: on October twenty fifth. There's a milestone watch, by the way,
- 24:56Speaker 2: on the crack in side Vince Dunn entering the Mattinee
- 25:00Speaker 2: one point shy of three hundred for his NHL career.
- 25:04Speaker 2: By the way, he is also three back from joining
- 25:06Speaker 2: Jared McCann as members of the two hundred point club.
- 25:10Speaker 2: As far as games played all time in a Crack
- 25:13Speaker 2: in Jersey, you can certainly belt the Crack and are
- 25:15Speaker 2: preparing to face the very angry Edmonton team after they
- 25:19Speaker 2: lost their last game a three to Dallas back on Tuesday.
- 25:23Speaker 2: And all you need to know the response here from
- 25:26Speaker 2: Connor McDavid after the game.
- 25:28Speaker 9: I don't have many answers for you tonight. Yeah, I don't.
- 25:33Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 25:34Speaker 9: I don't have any answers.
- 25:35Speaker 5: As I said, so a big picture defensively is something
- 25:38Speaker 5: you guys have been struggling with this year more than
- 25:40Speaker 5: the previous years. And how concerning is it that the
- 25:43Speaker 5: D side of the game is as far off as
- 25:45Speaker 5: it is right now?
- 25:47Speaker 9: I think it stems from the whole thing. You know,
- 25:50Speaker 9: we're not good enough with the puck, and you know
- 25:56Speaker 9: it's leading to sustained you know, time in our D zone. Yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 9: it's the whole thing. You know, we're not getting up
- 26:08Speaker 9: the A's four checking pucks back, and we're playing too
- 26:12Speaker 9: much in the D zone. You know, there's not many
- 26:13Speaker 9: D zone systems that hold up after you know, thirty
- 26:18Speaker 9: four a minute in your D zone. You know, it's
- 26:22Speaker 9: tough to defend.
- 26:23Speaker 2: No surprise, he's one of the guys the Cracking will
- 26:26Speaker 2: be on hi alert watch for. Offensively, He's had a
- 26:28Speaker 2: point in eleven of his fourteen career games against the
- 26:31Speaker 2: Crack in eight goals by the way in total, but
- 26:34Speaker 2: drew heavy attention from Maddy Benier's in the previous matchup.
- 26:38Speaker 2: David held to no goals, no shots and two of
- 26:42Speaker 2: twelve as well at the faceoff circle. Leon dry Saddle,
- 26:46Speaker 2: of course, is long time running mate, as recorded a
- 26:49Speaker 2: point in six consecutive games against the Kraken, including five
- 26:53Speaker 2: multipoint efforts as well. Ryan Nugent Hopkins, who Johnny mentioned
- 26:57Speaker 2: as well back into the lineup. He's at a point
- 27:00Speaker 2: of his last ten games against the Krack and so
- 27:02Speaker 2: in conclusion, plenty of weapons the Kraken have to be
- 27:06Speaker 2: prepared for defensively here in this game, so the Crack
- 27:10Speaker 2: and trying to keep the oilers at bay. Hope you
- 27:12Speaker 2: can join us here for all the action across a
- 27:15Speaker 2: busy sports day in Seattle, by the way, and hope
- 27:18Speaker 2: that you can certainly join us for all the action.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Opening up at twelve thirty pm airtime on your pregame
