- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: my thoughts on Mac Miller's latest posthumous album of Lunarism.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Cam and Jim.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Jones are at odds again, but this time Jimmy responds
- 0:17Speaker 1: with bars and is Drake's lawsuit against Universal Music Group
- 0:25Speaker 1: bad for the future of rap battles? Not them smack joints.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm talking about professional recording artists, not saying they're not.
- 0:37Speaker 1: But you know what I mean. Let's get a.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Welcome to Jim Hoop Now Pop fat to do from
- 0:47Speaker 2: the future. You know what the dude shows, don't disrespect
- 0:54Speaker 2: the leg la hip hop say to day break to
- 1:00Speaker 2: the business. What up, y'all?
- 1:02Speaker 1: I am your host Vegas and this it's Hip Hop
- 1:05Speaker 1: Now podcasting podcast specifically designed to keep you caught up
- 1:09Speaker 1: on all things hip hop, music and culture that happened
- 1:14Speaker 1: throughout the week. Big shout out to the subscribers to
- 1:18Speaker 1: this podcast who have now reached two k subs right
- 1:23Speaker 1: here on YouTube. I appreciate you. The goal is to
- 1:26Speaker 1: get to five thousand. We got a long way to go,
- 1:29Speaker 1: but hey, a couple of months ago, maybe six months ago,
- 1:33Speaker 1: it was about getting to five hundred and now look
- 1:36Speaker 1: at us, look at God.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Also shout out to those listening on audio form available
- 1:45Speaker 1: everywhere you get podcasts, appreciate you subscribing, but liking and
- 1:51Speaker 1: more importantly sharing a podcast or just as important again
- 1:56Speaker 1: comment you know whether you got hit through these episodes,
- 2:02Speaker 1: special episodes, or even just shorts on this YouTube channel.
- 2:07Speaker 1: It's all appreciated. Also, if you don't know. In twenty
- 2:12Speaker 1: twenty five, one of the things that I want to
- 2:14Speaker 1: do more of is just random live streams, mostly reactions,
- 2:21Speaker 1: so as big things happen in hip hop and those
- 2:25Speaker 1: big things, you know. The definition is loosely defined by
- 2:30Speaker 1: you know, what's trended that everybody's talking about, not just
- 2:35Speaker 1: the people who follow every trend to be a part
- 2:37Speaker 1: of every argument on social media. I mean, like literally,
- 2:41Speaker 1: if it's a thing that no matter where you go
- 2:44Speaker 1: on social media, there are a bunch of people talking
- 2:49Speaker 1: about the topic, is trending.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Stuff like that.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And recently this week the trending topic was Drake not
- 2:58Speaker 1: only withdrawing his petitions, but following a federal lawsuit against
- 3:05Speaker 1: Universal Music Group over the song not Like Us and
- 3:08Speaker 1: all the things or the accusations he's making regarding that song.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So he's not suing Kendrick, He's suing UMG in regards
- 3:18Speaker 1: to Kendrick's disrecord towards him. We're gonna talk a little
- 3:22Speaker 1: bit later about what that means for the future of
- 3:26Speaker 1: Disrecords because I think it opens up a wormhole.
- 3:29Speaker 2: But if you want to learn.
- 3:31Speaker 1: More about that or just hear me talk about it, well,
- 3:34Speaker 1: I did a whole video on it this week, is
- 3:36Speaker 1: right here on the channel on YouTube, exclusively on YouTube,
- 3:40Speaker 1: so you got to check it out there. But nevertheless,
- 3:44Speaker 1: this is where we are. So with that being said,
- 3:48Speaker 1: big shout out to hip HOPDX dot com, All hip
- 3:51Speaker 1: Hop dot Com, djbooth dot Net, a couple of places
- 3:55Speaker 1: where I get some of these stories from. Let's getting
- 3:57Speaker 1: ready to the business. So if you have been literally
- 4:05Speaker 1: under a rock, Cam and Jim Jones at Odds once again,
- 4:14Speaker 1: you know Jim Jones went on an interview, well this
- 4:18Speaker 1: is the series of events because we're not really gonna
- 4:20Speaker 1: talk that much about it, but I think it's interesting
- 4:22Speaker 1: because there's some music that may come into play in
- 4:26Speaker 1: this instance. Cam and Mace have been at Odds basically
- 4:31Speaker 1: off and on for years with Jim Jones feeling underappreciated
- 4:36Speaker 1: by Cam, and in most instances, some I could kind
- 4:41Speaker 1: of see Jimmy's standpoint. Some I kind of feel like, dog,
- 4:45Speaker 1: you're a grown man.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Move on you.
- 4:46Speaker 1: You've you basically made yourself a star, regardless if you
- 4:52Speaker 1: wrote it. You know, you made yourself a star on
- 4:55Speaker 1: your level. And you know, we remember, and he was
- 5:00Speaker 1: on Funk Masterflex you know, High Ain't seven talking and
- 5:04Speaker 1: crying and then Cam did the IG Live talking about
- 5:08Speaker 1: the situation with Jimmy where he was stepping at can
- 5:10Speaker 1: of pepsi like a million times and a tub of
- 5:16Speaker 1: popcorn had pepsi on it on the last episode of
- 5:20Speaker 1: It Is What It Is, while Cam ranton, who knows,
- 5:23Speaker 1: maybe this dude just be like, yo, Pepsi'm about to
- 5:25Speaker 1: talk about Jimmy again, what's up product placement? But recently
- 5:33Speaker 1: jim Jones talked on he was on the I forget
- 5:36Speaker 1: whose podcast he was on, but he did an interview
- 5:39Speaker 1: and part of his negativity towards Mace and Cam more
- 5:47Speaker 1: and really his willingness to go on a podcast and
- 5:50Speaker 1: talk about it really had more to do with Cam
- 5:55Speaker 1: and fifty cent kind of you know, linking together or whatever,
- 6:00Speaker 1: and I think it's a little bit deeper than that,
- 6:04Speaker 1: to be honest, because when you look at it, I
- 6:08Speaker 1: think this most recent issue probably has more to do
- 6:13Speaker 1: with Cam teaming up with Mace to have this successful
- 6:18Speaker 1: sports podcast if that sometimes addresses you know, other things
- 6:22Speaker 1: outside of sports, obviously, and it was very lucrative for
- 6:30Speaker 1: those two, Like they're hot now, I thought it would
- 6:33Speaker 1: have been dope considering. I mean, it's not necessary, and
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's damn sure not needed, but I thought when Cam
- 6:40Speaker 1: and Mace started, it is what it is, you know,
- 6:44Speaker 1: almost like a newsdance type situation. I thought bringing Jimmy
- 6:49Speaker 1: on with his online popular social media weather reports would
- 6:55Speaker 1: have been a nice touch. But obviously there were issues there.
- 6:59Speaker 1: So when Jimmy went on this podcast and talked about
- 7:04Speaker 1: Mace and Cam and not really messing with them like
- 7:08Speaker 1: that and blah blah blah, you can go check it out.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I'm not gonna sit in and quote all of it.
- 7:15Speaker 1: It was interesting because when you look at it, and
- 7:21Speaker 1: Cam and Mace pointed this out, Jimmy owes a lot
- 7:25Speaker 1: to them.
- 7:26Speaker 2: He owes a lot of.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Their success, regardless of people who may say, well, Jimmy
- 7:31Speaker 1: was holding them down or holding Cam down on.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Some street stuff.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Y'all gotta stop mixing that in with things when dudes
- 7:40Speaker 1: is celebrities, Like, they don't have to be in the
- 7:44Speaker 1: streets to be honest, if we want to keep it real,
- 7:47Speaker 1: they don't have to be around any of it to
- 7:50Speaker 1: be honest.
- 7:50Speaker 2: They're rich enough to be away from all of it.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Like they're people who don't even make millions of dollars,
- 7:57Speaker 1: who make.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Enough to be away from it.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Right, But it's all about the facadey and the image
- 8:02Speaker 1: and everything that comes into that. So Cam and in
- 8:07Speaker 1: Mace's return, right, Cam I believe was on vacation and
- 8:12Speaker 1: Cameron on It Is what it Is goes on a
- 8:15Speaker 1: rant of talking about Jim Jones and really talking more
- 8:21Speaker 1: so about him not being from Harlem, which if you
- 8:27Speaker 1: know Jim Jones, it's on like multiple album covers where
- 8:32Speaker 1: he talks about being from Harlem and representing Harlem, Like
- 8:37Speaker 1: if Jim Jones is from anywhere else other than Harlem,
- 8:40Speaker 1: he has been representing Harlem as if he was born
- 8:44Speaker 1: in it.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Now I am from Brooklyn, New York.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I'm not going to get into the politics of the
- 8:49Speaker 1: streets and stuff like that because Honestly, I don't care.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Okay, I don't care, right.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Because it doesn't mean anything in the long like it
- 8:59Speaker 1: means something to people for whatever reason, but at the
- 9:04Speaker 1: end of the day, it really doesn't mean anything when
- 9:07Speaker 1: gentrification can come to your neighborhood at any point and
- 9:10Speaker 1: take it over, so you can keep naming streets. You
- 9:14Speaker 1: don't own anything. We don't own anything. Let me be
- 9:17Speaker 1: more clear about that. But Cam was this is what
- 9:20Speaker 1: Cam said, Yeah, you are from the Bronx. Bro you
- 9:26Speaker 1: are not from Harlem. I did not grow up with you.
- 9:30Speaker 1: What else he said, This is still in Harlem remix,
- 9:33Speaker 1: which he said on Tuesday.
- 9:36Speaker 2: My bad.
- 9:36Speaker 1: That's something else that's uptown downtown east Side. Oh this
- 9:42Speaker 1: is Jim Jones. Okay, well let's not talk about that
- 9:44Speaker 1: too much. But essentially that was the thing, and along
- 9:49Speaker 1: with the MAINO situation and saying everybody who pressed Jim
- 9:53Speaker 1: Jones he's friends with.
- 9:55Speaker 2: So he's doing a lot to discredit Jim Jones. Right.
- 10:00Speaker 1: The main thing that I think is Jim Jones's hook,
- 10:03Speaker 1: which is, you know, being a representative of Harlem, which ironically,
- 10:08Speaker 1: Jim Jones has a single out that I know at
- 10:10Speaker 1: least in New York. I've heard it a couple times
- 10:16Speaker 1: where you know he's repping Hall Them again, and in
- 10:20Speaker 1: response to Cam's rant about him, he's been doing these
- 10:26Speaker 1: Instagram stories teasing music, including a remix to this new
- 10:31Speaker 1: Harlem record. And I gotta say, it doesn't sound bad.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It doesn't sound bad at all. It doesn't make me
- 10:40Speaker 1: feel like, you know, Jimmy is whack for this or
- 10:44Speaker 1: whack for that. It feels like Jimmy wants the battle
- 10:49Speaker 1: camp now. I'm gonna tell you like this straight up.
- 10:53Speaker 1: I'm not the biggest fan of Jim Jones. El Capo
- 10:57Speaker 1: is the album to me where he shine the brightest.
- 11:02Speaker 1: I know he's had hits, and you know, I know
- 11:05Speaker 1: there's the you know, stack bundles and Max b ghostwriting
- 11:09Speaker 1: for him situation.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I don't know what is what.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I didn't think his response to push your t during
- 11:16Speaker 1: their very brief one sided battle was any good. But
- 11:22Speaker 1: I'm interested in this one though, because for two people
- 11:27Speaker 1: who know each other and are talking this way about
- 11:32Speaker 1: each other, I think what they would have to say
- 11:34Speaker 1: would be way more interesting than Jim Jones trying to
- 11:38Speaker 1: challenge any other rapper. And he just does what he does, right,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you might as well just go and make music. Stop
- 11:44Speaker 1: trying to battle. But having him make this record about
- 11:49Speaker 1: Mace or Cameron the situation. Now, let me just end
- 11:52Speaker 1: this hit.
- 11:54Speaker 2: On no level. Is Jim Jones better than Mace or Camp.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Cameron lyrically far superior, never heard any ghostwriting anything. He's
- 12:09Speaker 1: far superior. His freestyles on the show right to start
- 12:15Speaker 1: the show. It is what it is. It's better than
- 12:19Speaker 1: Jim Jones' single outlem. But see, Jim Jones is a vibe, right,
- 12:26Speaker 1: He's a cool vibe that goes with it. He's almost
- 12:29Speaker 1: like New York version of Rick Ross. Right, Ross ain't
- 12:34Speaker 1: ain't nothing special. He's typically saying the same things all
- 12:37Speaker 1: the time. But you like it. It sounds good, So
- 12:40Speaker 1: why why tell that man to stop? And that's how
- 12:43Speaker 1: I am with Jimmy. Why tell him to stop? It
- 12:45Speaker 1: sounds good? Why would he stop? He's definitely not better
- 12:50Speaker 1: than Mace. I know some of y'all old heads that
- 12:53Speaker 1: the only Mace you know is a shiny suit and
- 12:57Speaker 1: a smile on a bad boy. He's never been as
- 13:01Speaker 1: successful as Mace. Let's just get that out the way.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Go listen to when Mace's dissed camera not that long ago,
- 13:09Speaker 1: and tell me Mace wasn't spitting on that record, you
- 13:13Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And people always like, oh yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 1: always hear about the murder Mace, but I don't never
- 13:17Speaker 1: hear him. You ain't listening because you waiting for the
- 13:20Speaker 1: Hollywood swinging record to drive to be like this, the guy,
- 13:24Speaker 1: it's not what we're talking about, DoD, We're not talking
- 13:27Speaker 1: about that. He's not better than Jimmy, is not better
- 13:31Speaker 1: than either of these guys. Like that doesn't mean knowing them.
- 13:37Speaker 1: He can't create a record that can compete. And the
- 13:44Speaker 1: stuff I've been hearing so far from Jimmy, I'm like, Okay,
- 13:48Speaker 1: I think I like this because I think with the
- 13:49Speaker 1: El Capo album that was like Pete when he got
- 13:53Speaker 1: with the Heat Makers, the beats were on point, his flow,
- 13:57Speaker 1: what he was talking about was perfect, and then later
- 13:59Speaker 1: he got I think he got with Harry Fraud, and
- 14:02Speaker 1: with Harry Fraud, I'm sometimes his beats just aren't that
- 14:06Speaker 1: great to me. So I felt like it took something
- 14:10Speaker 1: away from what some of the momentum Jimmy had gained
- 14:15Speaker 1: with the El Capo album, and I think he had
- 14:19Speaker 1: one other project in between, and also like some dipset
- 14:23Speaker 1: Christmas whatever. But I think it's sounding like Elle Capell
- 14:30Speaker 1: Jimmy might be back, so we'll see what happens.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I know.
- 14:33Speaker 1: One thing I don't like is the fact that Jim
- 14:36Speaker 1: Jones in recent years seemed really really eager to have
- 14:44Speaker 1: a quote unquote beef with somebody, and it looked like
- 14:48Speaker 1: he was using it to launch new music. Now, he
- 14:52Speaker 1: wouldn't be the only one who does that. I mean,
- 14:55Speaker 1: Joey Badas just kind of did that but didn't really
- 14:57Speaker 1: drop an album, so he did hisself with disservice. But
- 15:03Speaker 1: Jim Jones has been responding with beats and bars. And
- 15:09Speaker 1: that's not to say Cam won't, but it looks like
- 15:13Speaker 1: he's trying to use the attention to launch something dope
- 15:19Speaker 1: so that people will just mess with the music, kind
- 15:22Speaker 1: of like me, Like I just messed with the music.
- 15:24Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 15:27Speaker 1: So recently, recently, as in right now, as of the
- 15:33Speaker 1: recording of this podcast, Mac Miller's second posthumous album has dropped.
- 15:39Speaker 1: It's called Balloonarism. It was recorded between the years twenty
- 15:46Speaker 1: thirteen and twenty fourteen. Kind of peak artistry for Mac
- 15:53Speaker 1: Miller where he kind of found his niche, and his
- 15:56Speaker 1: niche is somewhere.
- 15:57Speaker 2: In between.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Rapping but sing songy rapping and almost emo rapping.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Now, ye'ah know how I do when it comes.
- 16:09Speaker 1: To reviews, I give you three listens. First listen is
- 16:14Speaker 1: just off impression. Second listens is kind of to listen
- 16:19Speaker 1: more intently to the lyrics, to the music, to the sequencing,
- 16:24Speaker 1: the concepts right. And then the third listen is just
- 16:28Speaker 1: to confirm my thoughts and for those who don't like
- 16:33Speaker 1: the way my thoughts are that this album is mid now,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I'll say this, if you love mac Miller, you might
- 16:46Speaker 1: love this. If you love emo rap, you might really
- 16:52Speaker 1: love this. If you hate emo rap, don't even press play.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I don't personally hate it at all. Again, I've said
- 17:04Speaker 1: on this podcast, I am not the biggest Mac Miller fan.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I don't hate him like I like I hate Logic
- 17:10Speaker 1: like I don't like him even though he had one
- 17:12Speaker 1: album that was I ain't on front, I ain't hate
- 17:14Speaker 1: on the menu. But mac Miller is different, and I
- 17:18Speaker 1: kind of felt like mac Miller for me, has always
- 17:21Speaker 1: hit or miss. He's gonna have some things. I like
- 17:23Speaker 1: he's gonna have some things I don't like and I
- 17:25Speaker 1: feel like with this album, especially when it comes to
- 17:29Speaker 1: posthumous albums, it's it's tough to say that the artists
- 17:36Speaker 1: would have wanted this album out right now, I know
- 17:39Speaker 1: this album has been in songs from this album have
- 17:43Speaker 1: been available, I believe in mixtape form for some time.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I never heard it.
- 17:50Speaker 1: But what I dislike let me just say what I
- 17:54Speaker 1: dislike before I get into what I like about it.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Up front.
- 17:59Speaker 1: What I don't like about it is just I'm not
- 18:02Speaker 1: the emo rap kind of guy. I don't dislike it completely,
- 18:08Speaker 1: but at some point I have to connect with what
- 18:13Speaker 1: you're saying, and if I don't, then I'm not gonna
- 18:17Speaker 1: like it, especially if I'm not connecting with the music.
- 18:20Speaker 1: The music of this album is cool, but it fits
- 18:23Speaker 1: the tone of his lyrics.
- 18:25Speaker 2: You know. The music is like.
- 18:27Speaker 1: Almost dreamy sounding, you know, almost live instruments, sounding almost
- 18:34Speaker 1: like a jam session, which is what it was when
- 18:37Speaker 1: it was recorded, a jam session.
- 18:40Speaker 2: And it's almost as if Mac Miller.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Remember now, I said that song called Book of Rahms
- 18:44Speaker 1: on a God's on an album where he was like
- 18:47Speaker 1: flipping through his book of rhymes, and he will say
- 18:49Speaker 1: around to the beat and then just try something else.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I feel like this was Mac Miller trying things as
- 18:58Speaker 1: an artist. Some people would say, well, he would have
- 19:02Speaker 1: wanted it help because he made it.
- 19:04Speaker 2: That's not how artists are wired.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Artists will make anything because everything is driven by inspiration,
- 19:12Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, whether it's positive or negative.
- 19:15Speaker 1: That's how they take those emotions. They take those experiences
- 19:19Speaker 1: and pour them into their lyrics. And this particular project,
- 19:25Speaker 1: even though when I look at Apple Music's like description
- 19:28Speaker 1: of it, he does talk a lot about death, which
- 19:34Speaker 1: is eerie, you know, and like seeing himself like almost
- 19:37Speaker 1: being outside of his body kind of situation. But he
- 19:40Speaker 1: talks about being high a lot also, and I know
- 19:45Speaker 1: that's something that's in the lyrics that they wouldn't want
- 19:48Speaker 1: to put in a description, but it's there, and unfortunately
- 19:54Speaker 1: for me, it sticks out like a sore thumb because
- 19:57Speaker 1: it makes me feel like, Damn Homie was really going
- 20:01Speaker 1: through something to make him, you know, get to the
- 20:07Speaker 1: point where you know, not only he's rapping about being high,
- 20:10Speaker 1: but it was obviously you know, he was high a lot.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I don't know all the time, I didn't know his
- 20:15Speaker 2: life like that.
- 20:16Speaker 1: But he poured it to his lyrics, which isn't bad
- 20:20Speaker 1: because I mean, I grew up in the in the
- 20:23Speaker 1: nineties where it was like the Philly Blunt era though
- 20:26Speaker 1: mad Weed songs and all kinds of stuff. But considering
- 20:30Speaker 1: what we know about mac Miller's end, this album can
- 20:34Speaker 1: be a little eerie to something.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Now.
- 20:38Speaker 1: If you like to get high and you listen to
- 20:40Speaker 1: this and you like emo rat man, this is in
- 20:42Speaker 1: the pocket for you. It's fourteen songs. I think it's
- 20:47Speaker 1: around maybe around the hour, I think in listening for
- 20:55Speaker 1: some reason, I don't have it open. No, we're gonna
- 20:57Speaker 1: we're gonna just look real quick. We're gonna give you
- 20:59Speaker 1: the details. Fourteen songs, Yeah, fifty eight minutes and forty
- 21:06Speaker 1: three seconds. Features only include Scissa on a song called
- 21:13Speaker 1: DJ's Chord Organ and Delusion a dude name well, I
- 21:19Speaker 1: don't know if it's a dude. I don't remember actually
- 21:21Speaker 1: Delusion Thomas. And at the end of the day, you know,
- 21:28Speaker 1: I was listening to this album. I listened to it
- 21:31Speaker 1: three times and I just felt like this just isn't
- 21:35Speaker 1: enough for me personally to really like it, you know,
- 21:40Speaker 1: like that this is you know, it's worth checking out
- 21:44Speaker 1: out of curiosity, and I knew what to expect, but
- 21:47Speaker 1: I think the first single is much better than the
- 21:51Speaker 1: rest of the album. And I feel like there's some
- 21:56Speaker 1: other joints on there that are cool. But again, and
- 22:00Speaker 1: the theme is more so a jam session feel. Again,
- 22:06Speaker 1: the music is more dreamy and thought provoking. And that's
- 22:10Speaker 1: how his lyrics and his approach to the lyrics, whether
- 22:12Speaker 1: he's rapping or doing the sing song you rap, that's
- 22:16Speaker 1: just what it is. So again, if that sounds good
- 22:20Speaker 1: to you, I think you will like it. I'm not
- 22:23Speaker 1: here to tell you not to like it, but I
- 22:25Speaker 1: think if you feel the way I feel where it's cool,
- 22:29Speaker 1: it's worth checking out. But I probably won't listen again.
- 22:32Speaker 1: That's where I'm at with it. So Unfortunately, we don't
- 22:36Speaker 1: have a early candidate yet for Best of twenty twenty five,
- 22:43Speaker 1: but that doesn't mean it won't happen some down the line.
- 22:45Speaker 1: As far as Possumus albums go, I think this one
- 22:48Speaker 1: is cool. I think the one they dropped before this
- 22:52Speaker 1: for mac Miller was a little better.
- 22:54Speaker 2: To be honest. So there you have it. And last.
- 23:02Speaker 1: So serious question with Drake's federal lawsuit against Universal Music
- 23:09Speaker 1: Group for defamation of character, citing the song the disc
- 23:15Speaker 1: record by Kendrick Kamar not like us specifically referring to him,
- 23:20Speaker 1: referring to him Drake as a pedo a PDF. I
- 23:30Speaker 1: think most of the internet and in my early thoughts
- 23:35Speaker 1: on it in another video are the same. But I
- 23:40Speaker 1: wonder what this does to rappers battling in the future,
- 23:48Speaker 1: especially if Drake is able to get any kind of
- 23:53Speaker 1: w out of it. I'm not talking about, you know,
- 23:58Speaker 1: he wins the case kind of situation. Who knows, this
- 24:01Speaker 1: could be dismissed tomorrow, But I'm just talking about a
- 24:05Speaker 1: win where like a settlement, right or even getting dropped,
- 24:11Speaker 1: because for some rappers getting dropped is the end. For Drake,
- 24:14Speaker 1: it won't. He's too popular for it to be the end.
- 24:18Speaker 1: Someone will pick up the pieces, if not himself, as
- 24:21Speaker 1: an independent artist. And I just kind of feel like
- 24:27Speaker 1: we're gonna go get somewhere down the line where there's
- 24:31Speaker 1: rappers who don't like each other and are of a
- 24:35Speaker 1: certain success level and are going to feel like, hey,
- 24:40Speaker 1: you can't say that, I'm gonna ssue you. Oh, I'm
- 24:44Speaker 1: going to sue you know the record label for helping
- 24:48Speaker 1: you win, because that's essentially what this is. Not like
- 24:52Speaker 1: us ended the battle. It just did meet the Grahams
- 24:58Speaker 1: was a hell of a response to family matters. But
- 25:03Speaker 1: the Cherry on top was not like us. It was
- 25:05Speaker 1: almost like the back to back, Right, I gave you
- 25:09Speaker 1: this record and before you're gonna respond to that record,
- 25:12Speaker 1: We're gonna dance on your grave.
- 25:14Speaker 2: But not like us, and it.
- 25:16Speaker 1: Became a huge hit. But if you're looking at somebody
- 25:21Speaker 1: who is gonna point out how record companies know battles
- 25:28Speaker 1: can be very lucrative for them, you gotta question some things,
- 25:36Speaker 1: like there's gotta be some truth to some of the things.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Now again, I talk about this completely in another video,
- 25:43Speaker 1: So I'm fully aware that Drake has probably benefited from
- 25:48Speaker 1: the same tactics that he's accusing Universal Music Group of.
- 25:53Speaker 2: But I just feel like it's so corny for hip.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Hop because now you have somebody who's literally following a
- 26:02Speaker 1: lawsuit when he started the personals, right, my personal news
- 26:11Speaker 1: didn't work against you, So now I'm going to sue
- 26:15Speaker 1: you because you don't have no evidence that I'm doing
- 26:18Speaker 1: the things you said I'm doing. Well, he had no
- 26:21Speaker 1: evidence that Kendrick was beating his wife or at odds
- 26:25Speaker 1: with his wife, or that him and Dave free is
- 26:27Speaker 1: Homie were having a problem, and that he's raising Dave
- 26:31Speaker 1: Free's son and not his own, Like.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Drake said, all of this stuff first.
- 26:36Speaker 1: So it just puts a stain on something that could
- 26:40Speaker 1: have been easily forgotten about. Every time Drake pops out,
- 26:48Speaker 1: what happened in that battle becomes top of mind for
- 26:52Speaker 1: everybody who lived through it. It's him, if he had
- 26:59Speaker 1: fallen back a little bit. We know he gotta make music,
- 27:02Speaker 1: gotta make records. He's doing that anyway, right, but just
- 27:07Speaker 1: not even acknowledge the battle anymore with no slide marks
- 27:13Speaker 1: on podcasts and in songs and dropping records that sneak
- 27:18Speaker 1: dissen but then you're taking them off like he's just
- 27:22Speaker 1: like somebody put on YouTube said, this is the longest
- 27:27Speaker 1: in hip hop ever, and it is.
- 27:31Speaker 2: But it's Drake who's keeping it going.
- 27:35Speaker 1: And again, we don't have the super Bowl performance yet,
- 27:39Speaker 1: at least not as of the recording this podcast.
- 27:42Speaker 2: You know, if you're from the future, get your ass
- 27:43Speaker 2: out of here. You already know what happened.
- 27:47Speaker 1: But I just kind of feel like it leaves a
- 27:49Speaker 1: sour taste in the mouth of hip hop in regards
- 27:53Speaker 1: to battlement. Right, Like, imagine if Kumo d decided to
- 27:59Speaker 1: through l L jah Ru decided to. I know, this
- 28:03Speaker 1: is not the same thing because he's not suing Kendrick.
- 28:07Speaker 2: But this is kind of how he works, right.
- 28:09Speaker 1: He's he does it. It's about the battle because he
- 28:15Speaker 1: keeps saying that song wasn't that good, that song wasn't
- 28:19Speaker 1: gonna be that popular if he didn't have help. So
- 28:23Speaker 1: imagine any of these artists doing the same in the
- 28:27Speaker 1: history of hip hop doing the same thing. Imagine after Ether,
- 28:30Speaker 1: jay Z just went on and was just like, man,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I'm suing everybody Hot ninety seven, you know, everybody who
- 28:37Speaker 1: played a role and make it Ether big. When sometimes
- 28:41Speaker 1: you just gotta look at it as it's the game.
- 28:45Speaker 2: You lost.
- 28:47Speaker 1: All those videos and people's reactions, they weren't hypnotized.
- 28:50Speaker 2: It wasn't a gimmick.
- 28:52Speaker 1: The beauty of that this record is the fact that
- 28:56Speaker 1: it became a hip record because that had never been done.
- 29:01Speaker 1: And this dude just does not want to believe that
- 29:04Speaker 1: that was the case. That he don't want to believe
- 29:06Speaker 1: that he lost. So now it's the semantics war. I'm
- 29:12Speaker 1: I'm just saying I hate it for hip hop. I
- 29:17Speaker 1: don't know how far it's gonna go if it ends here,
- 29:19Speaker 1: but how can I not be surprised where you talk
- 29:24Speaker 1: about popping out every time he pops out, we gotta
- 29:27Speaker 1: remind him of the l and I wish he would
- 29:29Speaker 1: just settle the situation, settle it down and release some
- 29:35Speaker 1: music that's unrelated.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I mean, you could take jabs here and there, it's
- 29:39Speaker 2: par for the.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Court, but not the focus that he seems to have
- 29:46Speaker 1: on it. Like he seems to have one hundred focused
- 29:51Speaker 1: on changing the narrative when he just needs to say
- 29:55Speaker 1: something slick here and there, like I'll give you one
- 29:58Speaker 1: line to me that for most of us who are
- 30:02Speaker 1: capable of moving on from the NAS and jay Z battle,
- 30:07Speaker 1: thought about right when on American gangst the success the
- 30:13Speaker 1: song with jay Z and featuring NASA. This was the
- 30:16Speaker 1: second collaboration they did. The first was Black Republican Or
- 30:20Speaker 1: for NASA's album, And I remember when jay Z said
- 30:24Speaker 1: one line that to me said it was it's officially
- 30:29Speaker 1: time to move on. People said hovah was over such dummies.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Even if I fell or land on a bunch of
- 30:38Speaker 1: money that ain't got nothing like Okay, that's what they was.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Hovah was over me.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I lost blah blah blah rich at the end, and
- 30:53Speaker 1: I'm moving on. I'm collaboring with Nas, I'm doing this
- 30:57Speaker 1: American gangst the album.
- 30:58Speaker 2: I'm moving On.
- 31:00Speaker 1: That's all Drake needed to do was come out with
- 31:05Speaker 1: a new record, acknowledge the battle in a very indirect
- 31:10Speaker 1: direct way, but also acknowledge his status as one of
- 31:14Speaker 1: the top performing artists. Meanwhile, he's devaluing his own music
- 31:22Speaker 1: and credibility, like every time he open his mouth now
- 31:25Speaker 1: all people do is criticize it because he can't let
- 31:28Speaker 1: it go. They won't let it go if you don't
- 31:31Speaker 1: let it go, Drake. So hopefully I think this will
- 31:36Speaker 1: be the case. But hopefully, you know, in hip hop
- 31:39Speaker 1: we can eventually get battles here and there without people
- 31:43Speaker 1: trying to match, because I don't think anybody should try
- 31:47Speaker 1: to do that match what just happened with this battle,
- 31:51Speaker 1: or even go as far as not liking a certain
- 31:53Speaker 1: thing that a person said and taking legal action, because
- 31:57Speaker 1: that's why. What do you think about Drake beef with
- 32:04Speaker 1: not Like Us in particular, U n G. What do
- 32:07Speaker 1: you think about the new Mac Miller album. Leave your
