- 0:00Speaker 1: We're back on the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show. Uh,
- 0:04Speaker 1: Yukon women got Tennessee on a road in Knoxville. Six
- 0:08Speaker 1: pm will be the start on Thursday six thirty. The
- 0:11Speaker 1: tip Tennessee nineteenth in the country and the women up
- 0:15Speaker 1: there in the top ten obviously with a shot at
- 0:17Speaker 1: doing some really big things. Bob Joseph be on that
- 0:19Speaker 1: call with the deb Fisk. We're back with Dan Hurley.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Yukon has a mini bye week this week. Coach. I
- 0:27Speaker 1: know there's some guys that are that are you know,
- 0:29Speaker 1: physically not up to one hundred percent. How much do
- 0:32Speaker 1: you decide to rest people in terms of practice? What
- 0:35Speaker 1: do you do this week to to you know, try
- 0:38Speaker 1: to further this this the movie you're trying to make
- 0:41Speaker 1: here up the standings.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, so that these guys got some they
- 0:45Speaker 2: got some rest, and at least on Sunday and then
- 0:50Speaker 2: into Monday you start to you know, prepare them for
- 0:54Speaker 2: Saint John's and you know, get them some you know,
- 0:59Speaker 2: some some shot some light shooting so that they uh,
- 1:03Speaker 2: you know, stayed stay locked in that way. And then
- 1:05Speaker 2: I mean we're we're just in a position now with
- 1:07Speaker 2: with you know, with with Hassan's health and a MOD
- 1:12Speaker 2: being out and then Liam just getting back to practice
- 1:17Speaker 2: and you know, having twelve scholarship players and not really
- 1:21Speaker 2: a walk on man. I wish I had Andrew, you know,
- 1:25Speaker 2: would have agreed to one more year, should have upped
- 1:27Speaker 2: his n I l uh. But yeah, so it just
- 1:34Speaker 2: we're we can't really practice five on five right now anyway,
- 1:37Speaker 2: so it's limiting, you know, what we're able to do.
- 1:41Speaker 2: And the reps were able to get Liam because Hassan
- 1:44Speaker 2: is is uh is not practicing his san is you know,
- 1:48Speaker 2: is resting for the most part in between games, just
- 1:53Speaker 2: so that he's uh, you know, able to you know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: to give us something there. The guys such a warrior
- 1:59Speaker 2: and and you just hope that somebody you know, like that,
- 2:01Speaker 2: that a MOD can recover from his ankle and get
- 2:05Speaker 2: back on the court and help us if in games
- 2:09Speaker 2: as well as practice, because Hassan's health has really put
- 2:13Speaker 2: us in a bad spot at the point guard spot.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Yeah, you had to go with I mean solo ball
- 2:18Speaker 1: handled whoever you were talking about it before the game,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Who's going to dribble the ball for us? But anyway,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you got through it. Liam McNeely has been out now,
- 2:28Speaker 1: I missed eight games. A team went five and three
- 2:31Speaker 1: without him. You've won twelve out of fifteen overall. You
- 2:36Speaker 1: say he's back in practice. Are you confident that he
- 2:38Speaker 1: can get in a game here on Friday against Saint
- 2:42Speaker 1: John's and help you.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean it's hard to predict how he'll play.
- 2:47Speaker 2: He's missed a lot of time, and I mean I'm
- 2:51Speaker 2: like watching him in practice and like every time there's
- 2:53Speaker 2: contact or lands, I'm like, you know, like kind of
- 2:58Speaker 2: like you know, on Razor's edge, just because you just
- 3:03Speaker 2: don't you know, you obviously don't want to lose him again,
- 3:06Speaker 2: and you don't want to see, you know, see a
- 3:08Speaker 2: guy that you love coaching. I mean, one of the
- 3:10Speaker 2: best things about coaching this team this year is getting
- 3:15Speaker 2: to coach Liam. You know, Liam is likely not to
- 3:19Speaker 2: be here very long, and it just sucks to not,
- 3:24Speaker 2: you know, to have not been able to coach him
- 3:25Speaker 2: for the last month plus. And it'll just be fun
- 3:29Speaker 2: to be able to go to battle with him, go
- 3:31Speaker 2: to war with him. You know, he's uh, you know,
- 3:33Speaker 2: guys like Alex. I mean, his presence is gonna is
- 3:37Speaker 2: going to help everybody, even if it takes him some
- 3:39Speaker 2: time to get his rhythm and everything back, his presence
- 3:44Speaker 2: is going to take pressure off of everyone because he's
- 3:48Speaker 2: going to help us all over the court.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah. Me and mcnely played in fourteen games, average thirty minutes,
- 3:54Speaker 1: thirteen and a half points, six rebounds. The big number
- 3:57Speaker 1: to me for him is fifty one for six d
- 4:00Speaker 1: on the line. I mean most of the season you've
- 4:03Speaker 1: been at a disadvantage without McNeely getting to the line
- 4:07Speaker 1: as a team. Hopefully he's physically ready and he can
- 4:10Speaker 1: get you to the line a little bit more, because
- 4:12Speaker 1: those points become more and more crucial, don't they as
- 4:16Speaker 1: these games get more and more important.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's limited players on the team that
- 4:20Speaker 2: can get to the free throw line. You know, I
- 4:22Speaker 2: think Alex is doing a better job at driving it
- 4:25Speaker 2: and attacking the room withinson force, So Alex is getting
- 4:28Speaker 2: to the foul line. You know, Liam would be the
- 4:31Speaker 2: next guy along with Tarris. You know, Tarris has gotta
- 4:35Speaker 2: you know, play with enough force and intensity to stay
- 4:40Speaker 2: on the court, and then he's got to play with
- 4:42Speaker 2: enough force and intensity to get fouled. But you know,
- 4:45Speaker 2: bye bye. By being assertive and aggressive I thought he
- 4:49Speaker 2: had a great start to the game the other day,
- 4:52Speaker 2: you know, but then you know, he he he, there
- 4:55Speaker 2: was a dip in his level of urgency there and
- 5:00Speaker 2: towards the end of the first half, and uh, you know,
- 5:04Speaker 2: we we need more from him that way. You know,
- 5:07Speaker 2: we need him to join that, you know, that group
- 5:11Speaker 2: of core players that we returned and get his life
- 5:16Speaker 2: or death urgency up in these games.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Yeah, there's something about him when he makes a big
- 5:20Speaker 1: play in the in the paint, you know, in traffic,
- 5:23Speaker 1: that it gets the team jacked up.
- 5:24Speaker 2: It looks like yeah, and and just if you want to,
- 5:28Speaker 2: you know, be a part of a team that wins something.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You know, like every defensive rebound, every finish, everything you do,
- 5:35Speaker 2: it's got to be at the level of desperation to
- 5:39Speaker 2: to to how you play. I think that's what you
- 5:41Speaker 2: love so much about Samson and Alex and Hassan and
- 5:45Speaker 2: you know these guys they play with the type of
- 5:47Speaker 2: desperation it takes to be the best team.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you kind of did that for sure on Saturday
- 5:53Speaker 1: and the win over mare Kat Dan Hurley with us
- 5:55Speaker 1: back with one more segment with the coach. As we
- 5:57Speaker 1: continue on the Yukon men's basketball coaches know here on
- 6:00Speaker 1: liar Field,
