- 2:43Speaker 2: let me unplug this thing.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Go ahead, talk now, Okay, I'm here.
- 2:49Speaker 3: No, I still got nothing.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Oh I wonder if I'm coming through through both channels,
- 2:55Speaker 5: because I I have going off the I've got a.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Broken my my stuff. I'm just going off the speaker
- 3:02Speaker 2: on the iPad.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Okay, slightly broken headset cable here, so that's why I was.
- 3:08Speaker 5: It took me.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I hear all three. That's a little low. Yeah.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Okay, huh yeah.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Let me let me, let me go out and come back. Okay,
- 3:22Speaker 3: everyone's leaving me.
- 3:23Speaker 5: All right, Let's see if I can find a different headset.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, that's fine.
- 3:28Speaker 4: All right.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Well then well the guys, uh head out for a
- 3:31Speaker 3: second and handle all that. I guess I will get
- 3:34Speaker 3: started with the news and we'll go from there. Star
- 3:38Speaker 3: Trek News. All right, So our first news story comes
- 3:43Speaker 3: to us from trek I think it's trek blog dot
- 3:46Speaker 3: com and for those are trek core dot com. For
- 3:51Speaker 3: those of you who have not had a chance, the
- 3:53Speaker 3: first episode of Starfleet Academy is now live and free
- 3:58Speaker 3: on YouTube. I believe this is just limited to the
- 4:01Speaker 3: United States, but for those of you and other countries,
- 4:05Speaker 3: please let us know. But it's just the first episode.
- 4:07Speaker 3: It's the seventy five minute premiere. It's not the second
- 4:10Speaker 3: episode that they also released, so it's only the first
- 4:13Speaker 3: episode that is on YouTube. There's Dan eating his French
- 4:17Speaker 3: toast as we talk about the first episode of Starfleet
- 4:21Speaker 3: Academy is on YouTube. And then so that's been released.
- 4:25Speaker 3: So yeah, if you want to watch it, if you're
- 4:27Speaker 3: interested to see what's going on, if you want to
- 4:29Speaker 3: get some of the jokes that we were talking about earlier,
- 4:32Speaker 3: that is the way to do it. And then another
- 4:36Speaker 3: news story that we've got. Let me pull this one up.
- 4:40Speaker 3: This is coming to us from Yahoo dot com. Yeah,
- 4:43Speaker 3: I can hear you. Here's an interesting story. It's coming
- 4:48Speaker 3: to us from Yahoo Entertainment, try and freaking robot. So
- 4:53Speaker 3: this is kind of an interesting trend. What do you
- 4:57Speaker 3: not hear me? Can you hear me? Dan? Hello, No,
- 5:03Speaker 3: he doesn't hear me. Oh that's no good. Okay, you
- 5:10Speaker 3: might need to reset Dan. Oh yeah, good morning Ross back. Anyways,
- 5:21Speaker 3: let me get to this new story then, since Dan
- 5:23Speaker 3: cannot hear me right now, the Starfleet Academy, Yeah, right now,
- 5:34Speaker 3: the Starfleet Academy premiere episode, which is on YouTube right now,
- 5:40Speaker 3: is getting beat by they say, as the headline reads,
- 5:44Speaker 3: by old men talking about DS nine Deep Space nine.
- 5:47Speaker 3: So right now, it's kind of funny. So the episode
- 5:52Speaker 3: of Starfleet Academy in the first twenty four hours garnered
- 5:55Speaker 3: about eighty two thousand views. Whereas YouTube popular channel called
- 6:01Speaker 3: bred Letter Media they kind of review movies and shows.
- 6:05Speaker 3: They have an affinity for Star Trek. They started doing
- 6:07Speaker 3: a series where they are talking about DS nine at
- 6:10Speaker 3: least the first few episodes, and that video has received
- 6:14Speaker 3: more than three hundred and eighty thousand views in its
- 6:19Speaker 3: first twenty four hours, so comparatively more people. Dan. Can
- 6:25Speaker 3: you hear me? No, Dan's not hearing me right now.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I don't hear the show.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Oh no, that's not good.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Shoot.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Maybe you need to reset Dan, Yeah, so, uh yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 3: maybe he needs to reset. Anyways, there's there's Scott.
- 6:53Speaker 5: I'm gonna go with the how can you guys hear me?
- 6:55Speaker 7: Okay?
- 6:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I can hear you. Can you hear me?
- 6:57Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Okay, And I can hear you through the radio. I
- 7:03Speaker 3: hear myself bleeding through a little bit.
- 7:05Speaker 5: Oh okay, let me see if I can fix that too.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Dan can't hear the show?
- 7:14Speaker 6: Yeah, nothing, that's good pot everybody.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Yeah right, stream Yard it works. I tested these through
- 7:23Speaker 3: stream Yard. They work. I don't know what, Yeah, I
- 7:28Speaker 3: don't know.
- 7:30Speaker 4: Uh okay, I'm gonna come on through my phone.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Okay, all right, Uh well I just sent a message
- 7:41Speaker 3: to Dan or v set and maybe that'll work. Anyways,
- 7:44Speaker 3: as I was saying about the news story, so red
- 7:48Speaker 3: Letter Media's recap of Star Trek d S nine his
- 7:53Speaker 3: far and away beat Starfleet Academy on on on YouTube.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Now you can argue a few different things about that.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Let's see. How about now, Dan, can you hear me? Yeah,
- 8:04Speaker 3: I hear you now, Okay, great, weird?
- 8:07Speaker 4: Yes, so weird?
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah, well I'm god it's working. So now we just
- 8:13Speaker 3: wait for Scott. Anyways, So I was saying right now
- 8:17Speaker 3: on YouTube, in the first twenty four hours, Starfleet Academy,
- 8:21Speaker 3: the premiere episode is getting beat by Red Letter Media's
- 8:25Speaker 3: recap of Star Trek DS nine. So it's getting beat
- 8:29Speaker 3: by quite a bit. I looked at the numbers earlier
- 8:32Speaker 3: this morning. It's increased even more. Right now, Starfleet Academy
- 8:37Speaker 3: is sitting at about one hundred and thirty seven thousand
- 8:40Speaker 3: views something like that, whereas the Red Letter Media video
- 8:44Speaker 3: is just a shade under six hundred thousand views. So
- 8:48Speaker 3: it's interesting more people care about that than the other thing.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Well, I think this is YouTube.
- 8:54Speaker 3: This is on YouTube.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yes, I mean that's just the number of people that
- 8:58Speaker 2: are watching Starfleet Academy on YouTube, though that's not accounting
- 9:02Speaker 2: for the people that are watching it on Paramount.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Plus correct correct. So that was the point I was
- 9:08Speaker 3: gonna make. Yay, Scotty, can you hear me now?
- 9:12Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 9:12Speaker 3: I can hear you? Yeah, yep, yeah, okay, all right,
- 9:17Speaker 3: and then our last news story comes to us from
- 9:20Speaker 3: trekmovie dot com, and uh, I thought this was kind
- 9:24Speaker 3: of a fun little story to share. But it appears
- 9:29Speaker 3: that Classic Track is finding a new audience through YouTube
- 9:34Speaker 3: reaction videos. So there has become a subculture of Star
- 9:40Speaker 3: Trek fans that are just now getting into Classic Trek,
- 9:44Speaker 3: your your original series, your tng DS nine, Voyager Enterprise,
- 9:50Speaker 3: and they're yeah, the good stuff, and they're they're learning
- 9:53Speaker 3: about it through reaction videos on YouTube. Yeah, and these
- 9:58Speaker 3: channels are getting more and more views and people are
- 10:01Speaker 3: finding it and it's a lot of fun. So it's, uh,
- 10:06Speaker 3: it's kind of interesting.
- 10:08Speaker 8: Okay.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So yeah, I thought that was kind of neat that
- 10:11Speaker 3: that was happening.
- 10:12Speaker 2: So all right, we should do some of those.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Yeah we've we've done it before, I know, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 3: we recently did all the movies, so yeah, but yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 3: that's all the news stories. Okay, yeah, huh. Fabo says
- 10:32Speaker 3: after watching Classic Trick, they will now go not go
- 10:34Speaker 3: back to new track, you know.
- 10:38Speaker 9: And uh.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Oh Sullivan Shawnee says, uh. Red Letter Media has about
- 10:44Speaker 3: six million subscribers, whereas Paramount has about three hundred thousand.
- 10:48Speaker 3: That's fair, that is fair. So yeah, all right, Well
- 10:56Speaker 3: should we get to the main topic now that we're
- 10:58Speaker 3: all here? Sure, yeah, finally talk about it. Fun will
- 11:03Speaker 3: now come out?
- 11:09Speaker 4: Can we?
- 11:09Speaker 10: Uh?
- 11:10Speaker 6: Can we start off with the return of a classic?
- 11:14Speaker 6: Which are you prepared to do that? Would I remember
- 11:19Speaker 6: the voicemail?
- 11:22Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I was gonna say that
- 11:25Speaker 3: for uh are you are you preparing? Oh yeah, it's
- 11:28Speaker 3: it's up and ready to go.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Oh you want to say that later?
- 11:31Speaker 3: Well whatever do you want to do it now?
- 11:34Speaker 4: Yeah? I figured we do it. We do that that
- 11:36Speaker 4: before we do the other review.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Okay, so just play it, okay. Uh, if if you're
- 11:42Speaker 6: ready to play it, I'm gonna introduce it.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Okay, introduce it?
- 11:47Speaker 4: Okay.
- 11:48Speaker 6: Uh, Ladies and gentlemen, Back by popular demand, Trek Cast
- 11:54Speaker 6: proudly presents Star Trek Starfleet Academy Series premiere, A pack
- 12:03Speaker 6: lead review.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Your suck?
- 12:09Speaker 4: And where were the pack leads?
- 12:15Speaker 5: Thank you for listening to a pack led review?
- 12:21Speaker 3: There you go.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't even that didn't even come through for me.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Oh no, no, oh no, that's gonna be a problem.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that's gonna be a problem for.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Yeah, we have a ton of voicemails.
- 12:36Speaker 4: Yeah, you'll just have to listen to the show, Dan, Yeah, I'm.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Not doing that.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Yeah, speaking of show, oh lot, the pack leads reviewed it. It
- 12:55Speaker 3: was better than the actual show. Yeah, can I can
- 13:02Speaker 3: I have?
- 13:03Speaker 2: Can I have a pack lead review recap? Can I
- 13:05Speaker 2: have a recap of the pack lead review? I know
- 13:06Speaker 2: it wasn't long.
- 13:09Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, yeah sure from who?
- 13:12Speaker 2: Yeah, from from the pack lid.
- 13:17Speaker 6: I will I will contact him and get back to you.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Can you step off camera and then have him Uh.
- 13:26Speaker 3: What did he say?
- 13:27Speaker 2: Just tell me what he said? That's all?
- 13:29Speaker 6: Okay, let me let me I'll call him up and
- 13:32Speaker 6: and and and okay, hold on a second.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, okay, I'm getting a hold of his guy.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Uh huh uh huh. Yeah, teenagers suck?
- 13:43Speaker 3: And where were the pack leads? Okay, they were right here,
- 13:51Speaker 3: it's great. I know you like that.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 13:55Speaker 3: So I got the Rotten Tomato scores on Surfleet Academy.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Looks like the critics loved it eighty seven percent still,
- 14:01Speaker 3: and the audience score is way down at forty three percent,
- 14:07Speaker 3: So not that well received by the audience, according to
- 14:11Speaker 3: Rotten Tomatoes. I would say on our own YouTube or
- 14:17Speaker 3: our own Facebook group, overall, it was Hey, it wasn't
- 14:20Speaker 3: as bad as I feared, was the reaction, which is
- 14:26Speaker 3: kind of my reaction to it, honestly.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Yeah, if I'm being honest, mine too. It was not
- 14:31Speaker 2: as as bad as I thought it was going to be. Yeah,
- 14:35Speaker 2: you know, I'm not happy with it, no, no, no,
- 14:38Speaker 2: but it was not as awful as I thought it
- 14:42Speaker 2: would be.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. And I think one thing is, especially with
- 14:47Speaker 3: watching both episodes, they did have their opportunities to make
- 14:52Speaker 3: it as bad as I feared, and they veered from them.
- 14:57Speaker 3: There were plenty of times where they could have gone
- 14:59Speaker 3: into very sappy, we're gonna cry now together scenes and
- 15:04Speaker 3: they didn't do it. So maybe they're learning. I don't know,
- 15:13Speaker 3: but I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it.
- 15:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I enjoyed it too.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I did not enjoy it.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, that's fine, I'm being honest. I did.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I didn't enjoy it.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no, that's fine.
- 15:27Speaker 2: But it was not as awful as I expected it
- 15:30Speaker 2: to be. I expected it.
- 15:30Speaker 3: To be a lot worse. Yeah, than it was.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I I listened to the first episode at work the
- 15:39Speaker 2: other day I was driving. I didn't watch it. I
- 15:41Speaker 2: listened to it, and then I rewatched that last night
- 15:46Speaker 2: and fell asleep. I had to finish it this morning. Yeah,
- 15:50Speaker 2: I had to finish it this morning. And then I
- 15:52Speaker 2: watched half of the second episode and I ran out
- 15:54Speaker 2: of time, which is why I was.
- 15:58Speaker 8: So.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I saw a meme where somebody says that the uniforms
- 16:03Speaker 2: are a picture of a smaller uniform, like if you look,
- 16:08Speaker 2: oh yeah, it looks it looks like a tos or
- 16:11Speaker 2: horror dress on.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Great Now I won't be able to see that.
- 16:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:17Speaker 3: I hadn't even thought of that. But yeah, that's pretty accurate.
- 16:20Speaker 3: That's that's hilarious. Yeah.
- 16:23Speaker 2: So but that design, I mean, you know, it's it's slimming.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Do we want to go into recap kind
- 16:34Speaker 3: of the episodes or we just want to talk about
- 16:35Speaker 3: our impressions. Uh, I think if you're watching this, you've
- 16:47Speaker 3: seen the episodes, so we just kind of talk about
- 16:49Speaker 3: what we thought. You know, I think, oh my god,
- 16:54Speaker 3: I didn't even realize the x's and o's in his head.
- 16:56Speaker 3: That's hilarious. The washing money. Look at the side of
- 17:00Speaker 3: his head. They excise tatile.
- 17:03Speaker 4: So did anybody catch what species he was?
- 17:07Speaker 2: He's a clinger, right, yes?
- 17:09Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 17:12Speaker 2: Is that a cling on?
- 17:12Speaker 8: Tell?
- 17:13Speaker 3: Right? Yeah? Yeah? I think yeah, okay, yeah whatever. I
- 17:28Speaker 3: think he had a blast in this show though.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Having fun. Looks like he's having fun. I'd have fun, yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Just be twirling your mustache and being evil.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Yeah. What did you think of the this Caleb character?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Which one's Caleb?
- 17:50Speaker 4: He's the kid, He's he's going to be the main character.
- 17:53Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got no business being at a military.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Academy, right as a character.
- 18:03Speaker 4: No.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Yeah, So the whole, the whole premise of the show
- 18:07Speaker 2: is flawed in that there's no way, you know, I
- 18:10Speaker 2: do this all the time where I you know, I
- 18:12Speaker 2: take Star Trek and I and I I equate it
- 18:16Speaker 2: to present day. You know, you're not. I don't care
- 18:21Speaker 2: if you're the Chancellor you're not enrolling a juvenile delinquent
- 18:27Speaker 2: at West Point. There are people that that, wait, there
- 18:30Speaker 2: are people that that dedicate their the first eighteen years
- 18:35Speaker 2: of their life to getting there. You're not cutting in
- 18:39Speaker 2: line because you know somebody m.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's no. The the other thing I thought
- 18:49Speaker 3: to you that, I mean, there are some serious plot
- 18:52Speaker 3: holes in this Oh yeah, oh there's tons.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah, there's the very the very first, the very first
- 18:59Speaker 2: thing where you know where they're in, where they're in
- 19:02Speaker 2: court and his mom gets convicted and and and sentenced.
- 19:08Speaker 2: Where were the lawyers?
- 19:09Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 19:10Speaker 2: Where was the jury? Where was the prosecutor? Why was
- 19:13Speaker 2: the kid standing there at his mom's criminal trial?
- 19:18Speaker 4: Why were they?
- 19:19Speaker 2: Why were they?
- 19:20Speaker 4: Yes?
- 19:20Speaker 2: Exactly, It just it makes it makes no sense, you know.
- 19:25Speaker 2: And then she feels guilty about separating him from his mother.
- 19:30Speaker 2: She's a convicted felon. You don't get to take your
- 19:32Speaker 2: kids to prison with you. That's not how it works.
- 19:36Speaker 2: But I know that this the bible for this show
- 19:38Speaker 2: was probably written four or five years ago when child
- 19:42Speaker 2: separation was a was a hot topic in the news,
- 19:49Speaker 2: So you know, you got to work that in there.
- 19:50Speaker 2: But it just it didn't make any sense.
- 19:53Speaker 3: The other thing too, that I thought was kind of
- 19:55Speaker 3: weird was like they show like his criminal record, Like
- 20:00Speaker 3: at one point, like I think he's arrested, they show
- 20:02Speaker 3: his criminal record and they show that. Oh, because he's
- 20:06Speaker 3: now being arrested. That's what alert Starfleet that they have him,
- 20:11Speaker 3: and so that's how they get him. But he's got it.
- 20:14Speaker 3: But if he's got a past record, he's been arrested
- 20:17Speaker 3: in other places, why didn't that get alerted.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Yeah, so she tells him, your mother broke out of prison.
- 20:22Speaker 3: A year ago. Uh huh.
- 20:25Speaker 2: I thought she was going to a rehabilitation camp, right,
- 20:29Speaker 2: And and uh, you know, why is she in prison
- 20:32Speaker 2: If she was going to a rehabilitation camp, why is
- 20:35Speaker 2: she in prison ten years later? Right? And breaking out?
- 20:38Speaker 2: It just it makes no sense.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Well, they each other the entire time, right, That was
- 20:43Speaker 3: the other point I was gonna make. They said that
- 20:45Speaker 3: you'd be able to visit. Well, and that's the other thing.
- 20:46Speaker 3: If she's in prison, you know exactly where she is, right.
- 20:52Speaker 3: You know, even today, even today, you know you can
- 20:58Speaker 3: you can go on the internet and find out if
- 21:00Speaker 3: someone's in prison. It takes about five minutes. It's open source.
- 21:05Speaker 3: You don't need it's public information, yeah, exactly, yep. Yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 3: so the first we look for my uncle sometimes.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and the prison guards are beating them up for
- 21:21Speaker 2: no reason whatsoever. There's no explanation except that, you know,
- 21:25Speaker 2: people wearing uniforms are bad, but not starflet officers they're good.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, it's ah. There are tons of plot holes
- 21:36Speaker 3: for sure.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Uh.
- 21:38Speaker 3: The other thing I thought was kind of funny was
- 21:40Speaker 3: the hollow teenage girl. That whole character was weird. Yeah.
- 21:50Speaker 3: They explained that she was created what four days ago,
- 21:52Speaker 3: four months ago, something like that ago.
- 21:55Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah, and they programmed her as a seventeen
- 21:58Speaker 6: year old.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Right right, yeah she is, but she doesn't but she
- 22:01Speaker 2: doesn't know how to shake hands.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Right because they didn't program that part of it.
- 22:06Speaker 6: Or well, I think she comes from a society of photonics, Like,
- 22:11Speaker 6: she's not from a society of people of organics that
- 22:15Speaker 6: that programmed her from a society of photonics that might
- 22:20Speaker 6: not be you know, aware of the custom of shaking hands.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yeah. She can still touch the computer console and immediately
- 22:28Speaker 2: control everything that it's connected to, so I mean she
- 22:32Speaker 2: could read Wikipedia about greetings and how they work, and
- 22:40Speaker 2: well you know if she's if she's enrolled at Starfleet Academy.
- 22:43Speaker 3: There there was an interview process.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Somewhere along the way, she met a person that she's
- 22:49Speaker 2: never met before. Some day before today, she has been
- 22:53Speaker 2: in this situation where you have to greet a new
- 22:56Speaker 2: person and shake their hand, or it just it was silly.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Yeah, well both says. He kind of likes Sam. That's
- 23:07Speaker 3: great if you liked it. My concern was, why would
- 23:13Speaker 3: a society create an artificial teenage girl. That seems weird.
- 23:18Speaker 6: I think the reason why they created an artificial teenage
- 23:21Speaker 6: girl is so she would be more easily integrated into Starfleet,
- 23:26Speaker 6: into the Academy. I think they said, we want to
- 23:29Speaker 6: send somebody to Starfleet Academy as a society and a
- 23:33Speaker 6: you know, most of the rest of the cultures that
- 23:36Speaker 6: go to Starfleet Academy are these you know, adolescent you know,
- 23:40Speaker 6: eight seventeen to twenty year olds. Let's create one that's
- 23:43Speaker 6: kind of like that as best we can and send
- 23:46Speaker 6: our version to Starfleet Academy.
- 23:48Speaker 2: So's she's odo with a little bit of pre programming,
- 23:52Speaker 2: right right?
- 23:53Speaker 8: Sure?
- 23:54Speaker 3: Sure.
- 23:57Speaker 6: One thing what I found fascinating was, yeah, the doctor's
- 24:03Speaker 6: doctor Field felt a little like angst against her, a
- 24:05Speaker 6: little annoyance against her. And I thought, well, maybe because
- 24:08Speaker 6: he's I don't know what he's what he's been through
- 24:11Speaker 6: in the last eight hundred years, but in some Star
- 24:13Speaker 6: Trek Voyager episodes, the few times that he's come across
- 24:17Speaker 6: other photonics has not been great like other.
- 24:22Speaker 4: Societies.
- 24:24Speaker 2: She he was getting angsty when she was talking about
- 24:27Speaker 2: his past. He said, oh, the Voyager crew. You mentored
- 24:31Speaker 2: the Voyager crew and the Protostar crew. And I think
- 24:34Speaker 2: what we're going to find out is that he's having
- 24:38Speaker 2: a hard time dealing with outliving everyone around him.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Yep, oh, yeah, probably.
- 24:43Speaker 2: I think that's going to be his story arc, which
- 24:47Speaker 2: that's that's interesting. I'm kind of interested in in. Uh,
- 24:51Speaker 2: you know, I'm kind of interested in that. In the
- 24:53Speaker 2: in the finale of Voyager, we see that he took
- 25:00Speaker 2: wife who was a biological person. Yeah, well she's been
- 25:06Speaker 2: dead for eight hundred years. Yeah, that's that's got to
- 25:10Speaker 2: do something to you.
- 25:12Speaker 6: If and by the way I said it before on
- 25:16Speaker 6: the show, I'm completely fine with the explanation he gave about.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Why he looks older. Yeah, they had they give a.
- 25:25Speaker 6: Throwaway line about how he programmed himself to age to whatever.
- 25:29Speaker 6: I think I even said. I think I even said
- 25:32Speaker 6: the example of what he said.
- 25:33Speaker 4: I think I even said.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Like, yeah, you said something very similar to you know.
- 25:38Speaker 5: And I'm completely fine with that throwaway line.
- 25:41Speaker 6: Anything to bring Robert Ricardo back, I'll accept the explanation.
- 25:46Speaker 3: I will say one thing I thought that they had
- 25:49Speaker 3: a missed opportunity is so they do a scene where
- 25:52Speaker 3: they're trying to save the ship and they send one
- 25:56Speaker 3: of the cadets out into space to to remove some
- 26:01Speaker 3: programmable matter that's clumped up on the on the ship,
- 26:04Speaker 3: and he's got like a he's a species that can
- 26:07Speaker 3: survive out there for like a small amount of time. Yeah,
- 26:11Speaker 3: I really think that character needed to die. And I'll
- 26:16Speaker 3: and I'll tell you why. One, it elevates the stakes
- 26:20Speaker 3: of the show. It shows not all the characters are safe.
- 26:23Speaker 3: He kind of it kind of gives you some jeopardy.
- 26:25Speaker 3: But two, for for the main character, Caleb, it would
- 26:29Speaker 3: show like, look, even in Starfleet, they're willing to sacrifice
- 26:32Speaker 3: themselves for the greater good. They have you know, good intentions,
- 26:37Speaker 3: and it would kind of like give that journey as
- 26:39Speaker 3: to like maybe these people aren't as bad as I thought.
- 26:42Speaker 2: They couldn't kill him off because he is part of
- 26:46Speaker 2: the puzzle that is this ensemble cast they're trying to form.
- 26:56Speaker 3: No, I know.
- 26:57Speaker 2: He is, he he is, So this is this is
- 27:00Speaker 2: woke track.
- 27:02Speaker 3: We all know.
- 27:02Speaker 2: We all know that he's the asshole white kid from
- 27:07Speaker 2: a rich family, right right, Okay, And that's part of
- 27:11Speaker 2: the that's part of the story, yeah, that they're telling.
- 27:17Speaker 2: So they can't they can't jettison that right away.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Maybe down the line, Yeah, you have a line, he's
- 27:23Speaker 3: he's perfectly safe to be killed. But yeah, I just
- 27:27Speaker 3: think if I had written the story, that's what I
- 27:29Speaker 3: would have done, you know, maybe do the bit from
- 27:32Speaker 3: you ever see that movie beer Fest? No, No, there's
- 27:38Speaker 3: a scene in the movie where they kill one of
- 27:39Speaker 3: the characters and literally the next scene is the funeral
- 27:43Speaker 3: and that character's brother shows up and he says, I'll
- 27:48Speaker 3: take his place.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Yeah yeah yeah, and they just start calling yeah they
- 27:53Speaker 2: like it never happened, Like it never happened.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So that's all you gonta done.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So when the girl is in the hallway and she's
- 28:08Speaker 2: she's trying to access something and she needs command level authorization, HM,
- 28:14Speaker 2: and the doctor appears even though she did not summon him,
- 28:18Speaker 2: because he apparently just monitors what's going on, because you know,
- 28:23Speaker 2: when they almost got into a fight in the hallway,
- 28:25Speaker 2: he was monitoring that and and suddenly appeared, right, So
- 28:28Speaker 2: he appears, gives her access to whatever system he she
- 28:33Speaker 2: needed access to. My question is, then, why is the
- 28:39Speaker 2: Klingon kid performing surgery if the doctor is accessible and
- 28:43Speaker 2: is aware of everything that's going on.
- 28:44Speaker 6: Yes on, Well, okay, I have an answer for you
- 28:48Speaker 6: because I watched both episodes twice. Number one, the holographic
- 28:52Speaker 6: emitters on the ship are severely damaged, and only they're
- 28:56Speaker 6: damaged mostly throughout the ship. Number two, the reason why
- 29:00Speaker 6: appeared is he had a She said the word emergency,
- 29:04Speaker 6: and the computer took that as they're having a medical emergency.
- 29:08Speaker 11: Uh.
- 29:09Speaker 6: The MH only appeared after she said emergency, so I
- 29:13Speaker 6: took that as it's some of the EMHs.
- 29:15Speaker 2: That way, he had a mobile He had a mobile
- 29:18Speaker 2: emitter eight hundred years ago.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Well, maybe in this time period he doesn't need a
- 29:23Speaker 6: mobile emitter because the entire ship has UH emitters, But
- 29:27Speaker 6: at this time the half the ship didn't have their
- 29:30Speaker 6: emitters online.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Then then I don't want to see him outside for
- 29:33Speaker 2: the rest of this series.
- 29:35Speaker 6: Well, maybe he's got his mobile emitter and his quarters
- 29:37Speaker 6: or something. Maybe he's charging.
- 29:41Speaker 3: He didn't charge it. That's that's where we're gonna go in.
- 29:44Speaker 2: So hold on a minute. The other girl's a hologram, yes,
- 29:51Speaker 2: and she was there, So what was what was emitting her?
- 29:56Speaker 4: Maybe she has her own mobile emitter.
- 29:59Speaker 2: But he doesn't, even though he had one eight hundred
- 30:01Speaker 2: years ago.
- 30:02Speaker 4: Maybe we'll figure it out.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Do you see that?
- 30:06Speaker 3: See that?
- 30:07Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 30:07Speaker 3: You can, you can.
- 30:08Speaker 2: You can look through it, you can put things through it.
- 30:11Speaker 2: That's the plot.
- 30:12Speaker 3: That's the plot. That's the plot. Whatever firefoll spreads.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Oh you know what it is. I know what happened
- 30:17Speaker 2: to the mobile and minter?
- 30:18Speaker 4: Oh what that?
- 30:20Speaker 2: That girl swallowed it with her combat.
- 30:22Speaker 4: There you go that that character.
- 30:26Speaker 3: They very clearly wrote, we want rebel, rebel Wilson, but
- 30:29Speaker 3: we can't have order, right Yeah. Yeah, So so.
- 30:36Speaker 2: We talked about missed opportunities. I'm gonna I'm gonna fold
- 30:40Speaker 2: that into something else, go for it. I'm not thrilled
- 30:47Speaker 2: with the heavy set stature of some of these Starfleet officers. Yeah,
- 30:54Speaker 2: and and this is coming from a guy who's who
- 30:58Speaker 2: is himself heavier than you would like to be at
- 31:01Speaker 2: this point in my life. But I'm not a military officer.
- 31:08Speaker 2: That's that's the difference. So you know, you got the
- 31:11Speaker 2: cadet master there, who's a big woman.
- 31:13Speaker 3: You've got the the what is she the cadet educational?
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, she's a heavy set woman. I'm
- 31:23Speaker 2: not sure why they did that other than you know,
- 31:25Speaker 2: they wanted this is Wolke track. They want to show,
- 31:28Speaker 2: Oh there's all different body types and body shapes and
- 31:31Speaker 2: yeah I get that, but you know these are supposed
- 31:35Speaker 2: to be military officers. So go ahead and I'll go
- 31:42Speaker 2: into the second part.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I was gonna say, to be fair though, isn't
- 31:44Speaker 3: that a problem in our current military that that some
- 31:47Speaker 3: of the higher ups are not in shape? And so like,
- 31:51Speaker 3: didn't didn't They've recently do a big thing about that.
- 31:59Speaker 3: So they're talking about it this Yeah, they're talking about it.
- 32:02Speaker 2: They are, they are, But this is this is eight
- 32:05Speaker 2: hundred years from now, No I know, Okay, we have
- 32:08Speaker 2: we have ozempic now, yeah, we have ozempic now. This
- 32:14Speaker 2: is eight hundred years ago or eight hundred years from now.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Where they have everything they eat is replicated, right, Okay,
- 32:24Speaker 2: so you could have the computer, you know, give you
- 32:29Speaker 2: a a slim fast shake that that looks, feels and
- 32:35Speaker 2: tastes like a cheeseburger. So it's it just it. It
- 32:40Speaker 2: shouldn't exist. It shouldn't exist at the right.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Also, they have they have.
- 32:44Speaker 6: An arc that you can walk through and get a
- 32:47Speaker 6: uniform and a haircut.
- 32:48Speaker 4: They can that arc too, uh you know, make it thin. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:58Speaker 2: So I did not find the Cadet master, even though
- 33:02Speaker 2: she looks like a gem pindar, I did not find
- 33:06Speaker 2: her intimidating.
- 33:07Speaker 3: In any way. And she's kind of goofy.
- 33:12Speaker 2: She is kind of goofy. And you know, Scott, you've
- 33:15Speaker 2: been through basic training, you know, was your drill sergeant
- 33:20Speaker 2: cracking jokes like that? And yeah, and if he was,
- 33:25Speaker 2: you weren't allowed to laugh at them, the one crack
- 33:28Speaker 2: you're not. You're not allowed to laugh and that's part
- 33:30Speaker 2: of that's part of the test. So I feel like
- 33:33Speaker 2: there's a missed opportunity here, you know, not at the
- 33:38Speaker 2: Naval Acade, not at the US Naval Academy, but at
- 33:43Speaker 2: US Naval Officer Candidacy School, the drill instructors are marines,
- 33:49Speaker 2: the Marine Corps drill instructors. And for years, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 2: they've we've debated back and forth, like, oh, Starfleet, they
- 33:57Speaker 2: have to have marines that you know, that colonel from
- 34:00Speaker 2: star Trek six, You know, colonel is not a naval rank.
- 34:03Speaker 2: He must have been a marine and YadA, YadA YadA.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Instead of her, they could have given us a kick
- 34:09Speaker 2: ass drill instructor, a kick ass Starfleet Marine Corps drill
- 34:15Speaker 2: instructor as part of this. Yeah, you know, and if
- 34:23Speaker 2: you want to make him, if you want to make
- 34:24Speaker 2: him a Klingon, great, If you want to make him
- 34:27Speaker 2: a gemitar, great. I would have loved to have seen,
- 34:33Speaker 2: just like, I don't know, some big scary Starfleet Marine
- 34:38Speaker 2: in a campaign hat, Starfleet uniform, but a campaign hat
- 34:41Speaker 2: or something. I don't know.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I just feel like it was a missed opportunity. Awol says,
- 34:45Speaker 3: all the slim personnel enrolled in the War Academy. Yeah,
- 34:50Speaker 3: so that's another thing. I want to, Yeah, go for it.
- 34:54Speaker 2: I want to know what the what the deal is
- 34:56Speaker 2: with this war college.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:01Speaker 2: And and I only watched half of the second episode,
- 35:04Speaker 2: so I don't know if they elaborated on it. And
- 35:10Speaker 2: but a war college and an academy are not the
- 35:13Speaker 2: same thing. The academy. The academy has cadets and they
- 35:19Speaker 2: churn out uh young officers you know, lieutenants or ensigns,
- 35:26Speaker 2: depending on which which branch of the military. The War
- 35:29Speaker 2: College is something completely different. The War College is where
- 35:33Speaker 2: high ranking officers have like continuing education, so you know,
- 35:40Speaker 2: you go to the War College. Those are those are
- 35:42Speaker 2: colonels and generals and captains and admirals are attending classes
- 35:48Speaker 2: at the War College. So I'm not sure why they're
- 35:52Speaker 2: like putting these two things together, like the like the
- 35:57Speaker 2: War College replaced Starfleet Academy.
- 36:02Speaker 4: For I think everything changed after the Burn.
- 36:05Speaker 6: They got rid of Starfleet Academy after the Burn, and
- 36:07Speaker 6: they needed to refocus their efforts on instead of, like
- 36:11Speaker 6: they said it in the show, instead of embracing new cultures,
- 36:15Speaker 6: they had to now defend against them. So they eliminated
- 36:19Speaker 6: Starfleet Academy, which was primarily their their exploration you know,
- 36:24Speaker 6: focused entity and focused.
- 36:27Speaker 4: I don't know if they created the War College or if.
- 36:29Speaker 6: It was an existing Maco type organization, you know with
- 36:33Speaker 6: kernels or whatever.
- 36:34Speaker 4: But and then they might have like.
- 36:36Speaker 6: Reprioritized and reinvented it into an academy for the younger folk.
- 36:43Speaker 3: After the burn, I got to point this out because
- 36:46Speaker 3: I saw several people losing their minds online about this.
- 36:49Speaker 3: But apparently people were very upset that the Starfleet uniforms
- 36:54Speaker 3: have zippers and buttons that was not supposed to be
- 36:57Speaker 3: originally in the design scheme for for Star Trek, and
- 37:02Speaker 3: so a bunch of Star Trek class players were losing
- 37:04Speaker 3: their minds on Instagram this week with these new uniforms.
- 37:08Speaker 4: So just the thirty second century is retro.
- 37:11Speaker 3: There you go, So let me let me, let me
- 37:15Speaker 3: take a quick pull.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Uh, Jaden is the guy they get serious serious question
- 37:32Speaker 2: because there's there's a couple of there's a couple of
- 37:34Speaker 2: serious hints that they drop.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I didn't even think about it, honestly.
- 37:40Speaker 4: There's a love triangle right there.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Yeah, when uh when is Galen? Is that his name?
- 37:45Speaker 2: The kid on the right here or the kid in
- 37:47Speaker 2: the middle. When Galen comes through the the makeover machine,
- 37:52Speaker 2: That's what I'm gonna call it, the thing that he
- 37:53Speaker 2: walked through the game.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Yeah, the makeover main.
- 37:58Speaker 2: When he walks through the makeover machine, Yes, yes, Jaden
- 38:02Speaker 2: gives them a look like, so that's one okay, And
- 38:11Speaker 2: the Cadet master says references talking when she's talking to Jaden,
- 38:16Speaker 2: whatever shame you're running from. So I'm wondering if they're
- 38:21Speaker 2: doing like a double.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Thing here anxiety, it's not okay.
- 38:28Speaker 2: He's a klingon that wants to be a doctor that's
- 38:31Speaker 2: frowned upon. He's a gay klingon that's that's frowned upon. Like,
- 38:36Speaker 2: I'm wondering if they're if they're if they're doing both.
- 38:40Speaker 3: So that they can disguise it a little bit. I
- 38:44Speaker 3: don't know.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Yeah, they used to. They used to do that in
- 38:47Speaker 2: writing it. Would you know, it would be an allegory, right, Yeah.
- 38:51Speaker 3: Babble says the actor who plays him is gay. Okay,
- 38:56Speaker 3: well there you go.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:58Speaker 2: So another thing that bothers me about him is he
- 39:01Speaker 2: is that's not his voice, that's not.
- 39:04Speaker 3: His uh yeah, he's doing a voice.
- 39:06Speaker 2: He's doing a he's doing a Christian Bale batman voice.
- 39:11Speaker 3: And I think it's going to get real old, real quick.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Yeah, And I'm wondering if that's and I'm wondering if
- 39:19Speaker 2: that's part of it, Like it's an act that the
- 39:22Speaker 2: character is putting on, not the actor. Because I'm a Klingon,
- 39:25Speaker 2: I'm supposed to act like this and that, like you know,
- 39:29Speaker 2: halfway through the season, he's going to get a couple
- 39:31Speaker 2: of drinks in them.
- 39:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:32Speaker 2: And I used to work with a guy and we
- 39:37Speaker 2: don't do it, dan No, I used to don't.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Don't do your impression.
- 39:41Speaker 6: Of the Klingon that's got a couple of drinks in him.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I'm not doing an impression. But I worked I worked
- 39:48Speaker 2: with a guy who had a very, very tough facade,
- 39:51Speaker 2: but he was gay and we all knew it and
- 39:53Speaker 2: it was fine.
- 39:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:54Speaker 2: And when we would when we would go out for beers,
- 39:58Speaker 2: once he got two or three.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Beers, his gay to come out.
- 40:02Speaker 4: Okay.
- 40:02Speaker 2: So I'm wondering, I'm wondering if if that's gonna happen
- 40:07Speaker 2: with this character.
- 40:08Speaker 3: That's all okay. So for aspect says episode for the
- 40:16Speaker 3: Cadet Master and the Cleon Cadet are supposed to have
- 40:19Speaker 3: a bondied moment over being growing up different from other Klingons.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Oh that's interesting, Okay. I do think with with that
- 40:31Speaker 3: Cadet Master her, I think that's as much as they're
- 40:35Speaker 3: gonna explain as to why she's half gem Hdar and
- 40:38Speaker 3: have klingon the one throwaway line. I think that's it.
- 40:41Speaker 3: They're not gonna tell us anymore. I did see an
- 40:45Speaker 3: interview with her, the actress, and she did mention that
- 40:48Speaker 3: you're gonna get more about her background in other episodes,
- 40:52Speaker 3: and I don't think they'll they'll get to that part
- 40:53Speaker 3: of it.
- 40:54Speaker 2: So I think I might have figured out the whole
- 40:56Speaker 2: gem Hidar. Okay, I think it was just m that
- 41:07Speaker 2: there weren't any women. It's it's not that.
- 41:12Speaker 3: They weren't incapable.
- 41:14Speaker 2: It's not that they weren't were incapable. It's that you
- 41:18Speaker 2: know when you all right, So if you grow chickens,
- 41:22Speaker 2: um hm, the male chickens are not as valuable as
- 41:26Speaker 2: the female chickens, right, So in a lot of cases,
- 41:30Speaker 2: when the eggs hatch, the males just get destroyed. So
- 41:35Speaker 2: I think it might be an opposite situation here when.
- 41:38Speaker 12: The warriors, Yes, when they were breeding the gem Dar,
- 41:43Speaker 12: if if by chance, oh this one's a female, throw
- 41:46Speaker 12: it in the replicator, just and just keep keep up,
- 41:49Speaker 12: keep printing out dudes.
- 41:51Speaker 2: So she mentions that my father taught me the victory
- 41:56Speaker 2: is life. My mother taught me that today is a
- 41:59Speaker 2: good day to die. So you know, Dad was a
- 42:02Speaker 2: fully functioning male, yeah, who had just never seen a
- 42:07Speaker 2: female jumpinar because they just don't exist.
- 42:11Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 42:11Speaker 2: But he was perfectly capable of impregnating one if they
- 42:15Speaker 2: did exist, and instead he impregnated a klingon. That's that's
- 42:19Speaker 2: my head canon for where she came from.
- 42:22Speaker 3: That was That's the explanation I gave a few months ago.
- 42:26Speaker 3: Oh okay, yeah, yeah, that was my theory. But what
- 42:29Speaker 3: they didn't we don't know, right, So.
- 42:31Speaker 2: I guess I guess I wasn't paying attention, so.
- 42:35Speaker 3: I don't think. I don't think you were on that day.
- 42:37Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, well I'm hungry right now, and I'm
- 42:40Speaker 2: angry about this show, and since hungry is the greatest
- 42:43Speaker 2: enemy of all, that's the.
- 42:46Speaker 6: Hey, what do you guys think about Stephen Colbert is
- 42:48Speaker 6: the Academy Computer?
- 42:50Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I knowed, that's ridiculous. What did you think
- 42:54Speaker 3: of space Penny Rexman?
- 42:59Speaker 4: So you're talking about uh.
- 43:02Speaker 6: Oh yeah, yeah, okay, did you guys notice did you
- 43:08Speaker 6: guys notice the rock Creature?
- 43:11Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 43:12Speaker 3: Yeah from uh from Prodigy? Yeah yeah that was cool.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Yeah, there are a lot of easter eggs, a lot
- 43:21Speaker 2: of easter eggs. That wall of officers, you know, there
- 43:26Speaker 2: were there were a bunch of interesting ones there. We
- 43:30Speaker 2: find out that we find out that Riker never made admiral.
- 43:34Speaker 2: That's one thing we find out because he's on there
- 43:36Speaker 2: as as Captain Riker. Yeah, but sheer peaked at lieutenant,
- 43:40Speaker 2: which is extremely surprising, extremely surprising after everything he did
- 43:47Speaker 2: during the during the Dominion War, and you know with
- 43:51Speaker 2: those he was running that intelligence operation with the with
- 43:55Speaker 2: the augments and you know.
- 43:57Speaker 3: Well, maybe that's why he's off the books.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess. Yeah, Midshipman first Class Peter Preston, you
- 44:07Speaker 2: remember him.
- 44:09Speaker 3: No, who's that guy that's Scotty's nephew who died in
- 44:12Speaker 3: the engine.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Room in uh oh yeah, damn.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Ye warning warning, NERD alert, NERD alert. You earned it.
- 44:28Speaker 2: But thank you, thank you. But also I mean there
- 44:32Speaker 2: was Cadet Joshua Albert from was it the first Duty
- 44:39Speaker 2: he's the one who died in the in the in
- 44:42Speaker 2: NIC's thing, Admiral Howie Howie, Admiral Harry Kim yep, which
- 44:52Speaker 2: that was nice to say. It took forever, but he
- 44:55Speaker 2: made it took.
- 44:56Speaker 4: Eight hundred years he finally got promoted. Uh se you
- 45:00Speaker 4: know Jackson.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I saw her duty Admiral Tawny Newsome.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Yes, her name, that's hilarious. Yeah. Did you catch the
- 45:12Speaker 3: EXO comp?
- 45:13Speaker 4: I did?
- 45:14Speaker 2: There were there were a couple of XO comps.
- 45:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:18Speaker 3: There was the red one that the Internet has now
- 45:20Speaker 3: dubbed almond Basket. Yeah.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Oh instead of Peter Hamper Almond Basket. Did you catch
- 45:29Speaker 4: the rock creature from Prodigy?
- 45:32Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Uh.
- 45:40Speaker 3: Ambassador Garrick was another one.
- 45:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:44Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's not Cannon, but in in uh, in
- 45:51Speaker 6: the book that Andrew Robinson wrote, he was an ambassador.
- 45:55Speaker 3: Oh the Stitch in time yep. Yeah.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Oh.
- 46:01Speaker 3: There was another Easter egg that I caught that I
- 46:02Speaker 3: thought was hilarious. Oh I can't remember. Well, I guess Okay,
- 46:09Speaker 3: are are you what's your excitement level for the next episode?
- 46:13Speaker 4: Are you excited?
- 46:14Speaker 3: Are you not?
- 46:14Speaker 4: Are you I'm excited? Yeah, I liked. I liked both episodes.
- 46:18Speaker 6: I'm I'm cautiously optimistic for the rest of the season.
- 46:25Speaker 6: I hope that Alex Kurtzman stays out of the way
- 46:29Speaker 6: for the rest of it.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. She does not seem like a
- 46:35Speaker 2: captain to me. Yeah, she's got some weird mannerisms that
- 46:42Speaker 2: just don't work for me. She puts her feet on
- 46:47Speaker 2: the furniture, she lays down, and she's talking to people
- 46:51Speaker 2: on the bridge. It's like, what are you doing? She
- 46:54Speaker 2: goes barefoot bare Yeah, the barefoot thing, yeah, which I
- 46:59Speaker 2: think that was in the next episode.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Right, I think that was yeah, episode two.
- 47:04Speaker 6: She's half Lanthamite, Lanthormite, Lana Lantha.
- 47:08Speaker 2: So I have in my notes, walks around barefoot, sits
- 47:10Speaker 2: on tables. She's four hundred years old, but acts like
- 47:13Speaker 2: a teenage girl, didn't.
- 47:17Speaker 6: I mean, that's kind of like the chief engineer of
- 47:19Speaker 6: the enterprise in Stranger Worlds.
- 47:24Speaker 4: They're quirky.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, it's I don't know.
- 47:33Speaker 2: It's like it's unprofessional if you're at work and your
- 47:38Speaker 2: boss is walking around barefoot and she's like sitting on
- 47:43Speaker 2: top of her desk like a cat.
- 47:45Speaker 3: I mean, my boss doesn't walk around barefoot, but one
- 47:48Speaker 3: of my coworkers does all the time. Yeah. Yeah.
- 47:53Speaker 2: So I've talked in the past about one thing I
- 47:56Speaker 2: don't like about this era of Star Trek is that
- 48:01Speaker 2: like technology has progressed so far. They can do anything.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Programmable matter can be anything. It can do anything. And
- 48:15Speaker 2: because of that, you've you're kind of writing yourself into
- 48:18Speaker 2: a corner.
- 48:20Speaker 3: So they have a makeover machin.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Yeah, makeover exactly. But you know a big part of
- 48:26Speaker 2: this first episode is is this guy trying to steal
- 48:30Speaker 2: parts of their ship. Well, if you have programmable matter,
- 48:34Speaker 2: why are you stealing anything? If you have this stuff?
- 48:37Speaker 4: Pretty slotty for a criminal.
- 48:39Speaker 2: But if you have this stuff that can become anything,
- 48:42Speaker 2: there's no need to steal anything. It just doesn't make sense.
- 48:49Speaker 2: And they've kind of, like, I don't know, they've kind
- 48:55Speaker 2: of written themselves into a corner with all this super
- 48:57Speaker 2: advanced technology that they have. Every everyone has a transporter
- 49:01Speaker 2: constantly programmble matter that can be turned into anything. Yeah,
- 49:08Speaker 2: how do you create genuine peril if all of these
- 49:13Speaker 2: things exist? If everyone has a combadge that can communicate,
- 49:17Speaker 2: it can scan everything, it can transport you anywhere, nothing matters.
- 49:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:26Speaker 6: Also that was the problem I had too. They said
- 49:29Speaker 6: the transporters are offline. Doesn't everybody have a communicator that's
- 49:32Speaker 6: also a transporter?
- 49:33Speaker 2: Yeah, this is what I mean. They've written themselves into
- 49:36Speaker 2: a corner where the thing and you may call them tropes,
- 49:40Speaker 2: you know, but a lot of the old Star Trek
- 49:43Speaker 2: tropes like uh oh there's there's there's peril because the
- 49:47Speaker 2: such and such is offline. Doesn't make sense anymore because
- 49:51Speaker 2: there's all this new technology that that compensates for all
- 49:54Speaker 2: these things.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Yeah, that that's they need to put limits on their
- 49:59Speaker 3: new technology, you like, yes, Like okay, when the shields
- 50:02Speaker 3: go up, the personal transporters shut down because they don't
- 50:06Speaker 3: want you transporting off the ship or or letting people
- 50:10Speaker 3: through and hacking that system. Like give it a rule
- 50:13Speaker 3: and then that way we know, oh they're at red
- 50:15Speaker 3: alert so they can't do this or yellow alert, mean
- 50:18Speaker 3: give me something, so that way I have an idea
- 50:22Speaker 3: of what causes the tension.
- 50:23Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, see, I like to think of those personal transporters.
- 50:27Speaker 6: As I talked about this a few weeks ago, I
- 50:30Speaker 6: still I don't believe those communicators are transporter systems in
- 50:34Speaker 6: and of themselves. I think they just make the transport
- 50:38Speaker 6: operation automated. I think they just tied directly into the
- 50:44Speaker 6: ship's transporter system and just kind of does away with
- 50:48Speaker 6: the need of a transporter.
- 50:49Speaker 4: Chief and stuff like that.
- 50:50Speaker 6: I don't think you can fit, no matter how many
- 50:52Speaker 6: centuries in the future, I don't think you can fit
- 50:54Speaker 6: a system be right in a tiny, tiny thing.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Except that they had them. They had the prototype eight
- 51:03Speaker 2: hundred years ago.
- 51:05Speaker 6: Again, I don't think that was the prototype of anything.
- 51:07Speaker 6: I think that was bullshit. I don't like that. I've
- 51:11Speaker 6: read the technical manual and I realized how complicated and
- 51:13Speaker 6: a huge Okay, so.
- 51:16Speaker 2: I give him one.
- 51:18Speaker 4: When did you read technical Manual?
- 51:20Speaker 3: Warning Warning, NERD alert, NERD alert.
- 51:26Speaker 4: Nice.
- 51:27Speaker 2: With all due respect to Chief Pettybeard, who's our chief engineer.
- 51:34Speaker 2: You know, data is dead or data was dead for
- 51:38Speaker 2: twenty years because they only had one personal transporter and
- 51:43Speaker 2: he gave it to Captain of card So this technology
- 51:46Speaker 2: had eight hundred years to perfect this technology and apparently
- 51:49Speaker 2: they did.
- 51:50Speaker 6: Yeah, buy a transport system in a tiny combat I
- 51:54Speaker 6: don't buy it.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Okay, Well, fifty years ago, if you told somebody that
- 51:59Speaker 2: I have one of these and all the things that
- 52:02Speaker 2: it can do today, they would have looked at you
- 52:04Speaker 2: like you had nine heads.
- 52:06Speaker 3: You know.
- 52:06Speaker 2: I don't know if I've said this on the show,
- 52:07Speaker 2: I've said this to people before. There's a phrase that
- 52:09Speaker 2: if you if you said it fifty years ago, it
- 52:11Speaker 2: would make zero sense, but it makes it makes perfect
- 52:14Speaker 2: sense today. You get here in my day, that's right.
- 52:19Speaker 2: But if you if you got up from your desk
- 52:21Speaker 2: at work and said, I'm going to go out to
- 52:24Speaker 2: my car on my lunch so I can watch a
- 52:27Speaker 2: movie on my phone, if you said that fifty years ago,
- 52:30Speaker 2: they would looked at you like you had nine heads.
- 52:32Speaker 2: You say it today, it makes perfect sense.
- 52:34Speaker 3: Sure, yeah, all right, Well with all that, we've got
- 52:43Speaker 3: so many voicemails and everything, so I feel like we should.
- 52:45Speaker 2: Oh are we doing the second episode at all?
- 52:47Speaker 3: I thought we kind of touched it on both kind
- 52:49Speaker 3: of Umm, anything you want to say about the second episode.
- 52:53Speaker 2: Yep, people are wearing glasses. Okay, uh, the captain wears glasses,
- 52:58Speaker 2: the cadet and the mucus wears glasses. That doesn't make
- 53:04Speaker 2: I don't like the disrespectful interactions that these cadets are
- 53:08Speaker 2: having with each other in the middle of class, talking
- 53:10Speaker 2: about tiny fish dicks and stuff like that. Yeah, that
- 53:14Speaker 2: would not fly at a military academy. She tells him
- 53:19Speaker 2: to stand at attention and he immediately goes to parade
- 53:22Speaker 2: rest and everybody's fine with it two different Yeah.
- 53:25Speaker 4: I was bothered by that too.
- 53:29Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, Dan, I want you to name.
- 53:31Speaker 6: I know you can't name three things. Can you name
- 53:34Speaker 6: one and a half things you liked about this this
- 53:36Speaker 6: new series?
- 53:37Speaker 2: Well, hold on, let me finish shitting on it, and
- 53:38Speaker 2: then you Why is the betazoid president signing he's not deaf?
- 53:46Speaker 6: What's up with the betazoids too? Are they empathic? Are
- 53:49Speaker 6: they telepathic? Are they telekinetic?
- 53:51Speaker 2: Now?
- 53:51Speaker 4: What what?
- 53:53Speaker 2: They're telepathic? They've always been telepathic.
- 53:55Speaker 4: Okay, but they're only talking about empathic.
- 53:58Speaker 3: Why Isa was empathic?
- 54:01Speaker 2: Because she was?
- 54:01Speaker 4: Because yes?
- 54:06Speaker 2: And why are they negotiating betazoid betaz's re entry into
- 54:13Speaker 2: the Federation.
- 54:14Speaker 3: Why are they negotiating.
- 54:15Speaker 2: That in public in front of an audience that makes
- 54:19Speaker 2: that makes no sense to to to give it a
- 54:24Speaker 2: a contemporary equivalent. You know. That's like Donald Trump is
- 54:32Speaker 2: at one podium and the president of Denmark is at
- 54:34Speaker 2: the other, and they're arguing over why Greenland should be
- 54:37Speaker 2: part of the United States and not Denmark, and we're
- 54:40Speaker 2: gonna do it. We're going to do it in front
- 54:42Speaker 2: of all the cadets at West Point. It makes no sense. Whatsoever.
- 54:48Speaker 2: It's just silly.
- 54:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 54:51Speaker 2: And then why and then you have a you have
- 54:53Speaker 2: a visiting head of state. Why would security interrupt that
- 54:59Speaker 2: visit to bring a cadet with mucusol over his shirt,
- 55:03Speaker 2: drag him back into the theater and sit him down
- 55:06Speaker 2: at his seat? What is that? That makes no sense whatsoever? Okay,
- 55:10Speaker 2: you were trying to escape and we apprehended. You put
- 55:13Speaker 2: him in the brag Why are you bringing him back
- 55:14Speaker 2: to the to the theater?
- 55:15Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 55:17Speaker 6: Yeah, and then Alasta girl draws even more attention to
- 55:19Speaker 6: it by looking over at him and like shaking her head,
- 55:22Speaker 6: like you've been a naughty boy.
- 55:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:26Speaker 5: So, okay, you're one and a half things that you
- 55:30Speaker 5: liked about it.
- 55:30Speaker 2: One and a half things that I that I liked
- 55:33Speaker 2: about it, and you're not allowed to you're not allowed
- 55:36Speaker 2: to repeat that you like Paul Giamatti, Right, everyone loved him.
- 55:41Speaker 4: Because I can't stand Paul Giamatti. Okay, he did okay
- 55:45Speaker 4: on this, He was okay in this.
- 55:49Speaker 2: Yeah, the effects look great.
- 55:52Speaker 3: I've said that for years about all the new track.
- 55:55Speaker 3: They look they all look they all look fantastic. What
- 56:02Speaker 3: did I like about it?
- 56:06Speaker 2: Mm hmm?
- 56:07Speaker 4: Do you want to come back.
- 56:09Speaker 2: No, no, no, I'm looking I'm looking forward to and and
- 56:14Speaker 2: it's sad because it's not looking forward, it's looking back.
- 56:17Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to finding out what the Doctor has
- 56:20Speaker 2: been doing for the last eight hundred years and why
- 56:23Speaker 2: he reacted the way the way that he did to
- 56:28Speaker 2: her bringing up Voyager and the Protostar.
- 56:30Speaker 3: And yeah that's all I got. Okay, what about you, Scott, what's.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Something you like? Oh in Admiral poop apples, it was
- 56:40Speaker 2: nice to see it now, Yeah that's your half.
- 56:43Speaker 3: Yeah, he's only there for a little bit, so.
- 56:47Speaker 4: Yeah, like to see uh, like to see Admiral Daddy back.
- 56:52Speaker 4: I I liked. Uh.
- 56:54Speaker 6: It was nice to see the Doctor again. Whether it's
- 56:56Speaker 6: just they're just doing fan service or whether you know it,
- 56:59Speaker 6: it was nice to see the e MH back after
- 57:02Speaker 6: so many years.
- 57:04Speaker 4: You know, I'm I'm a sucker for fan service whatever.
- 57:08Speaker 4: I love the callbacks, I love the Easter eggs.
- 57:12Speaker 6: I and and we have to acknowledge this for what
- 57:15Speaker 6: it is. This is different track that not just I'm
- 57:19Speaker 6: not saying this is woke track. I'm just saying this
- 57:20Speaker 6: is a different type of show, designed to be different
- 57:24Speaker 6: for a different type of audience. So it's it's it's
- 57:26Speaker 6: it's a cadet show. It's it's for a younger audience.
- 57:30Speaker 6: I did like a lot of the new characters. I think,
- 57:33Speaker 6: you know, I don't. I don't hate what they're trying
- 57:36Speaker 6: to be. I don't hate what the show is trying
- 57:39Speaker 6: to be. I like the conflict. It's yes, have we
- 57:41Speaker 6: seen this type of conflict before? Of sure, sure, of course.
- 57:44Speaker 6: Anytime you have young characters in any show, the hormones
- 57:48Speaker 6: are raging. Uh, that's fine, That's that's what they're trying
- 57:51Speaker 6: to do. I like Holly Hunter. I think she's gonna
- 57:56Speaker 6: be an intriguing character, and I'm looking forward to I
- 58:00Speaker 6: really am looking forward to seeing this.
- 58:03Speaker 4: So I've got high hopes for this. So I guess
- 58:06Speaker 4: we'll see.
- 58:07Speaker 2: I know it wasn't made for us, and I know
- 58:09Speaker 2: this is a younger crew. It's not a Starfleet crewe
- 58:12Speaker 2: these are these are cadets. But just consider that in
- 58:19Speaker 2: the in the first episode of Voyager Caretaker Harry Harry
- 58:24Speaker 2: Kim that was his first posting. Yeah, he was weeks
- 58:29Speaker 2: out of Starfleet Academy, so he was essentially them. Julian
- 58:35Speaker 2: Basher in the first episode of the Emissary, that was
- 58:40Speaker 2: his choice posting and graduated second in his class, so
- 58:43Speaker 2: he got to pick his post, so same thing he
- 58:46Speaker 2: was weeks out of the academy. I can't picture those
- 58:50Speaker 2: two characters having these types of interactions, and I think
- 58:56Speaker 2: that's what That's another reason it's it's just seems so foreign.
- 59:00Speaker 2: It's so distant from actual Star Trek to me.
- 59:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess for me, what I liked is I
- 59:17Speaker 3: like that it looks like they've kind of learned a
- 59:19Speaker 3: little bit from Discovery on on how to handle characters.
- 59:23Speaker 3: They're not as whiny or or quick to jump into
- 59:28Speaker 3: their emotions. So I'm hoping that means better things in
- 59:31Speaker 3: the future. It's not as bad as just go.
- 59:35Speaker 2: No, but there's different. There's different there's different emotions. I
- 59:38Speaker 2: mean a number of times that these kids are calling
- 59:40Speaker 2: each other names, each other, bitch, what is that? Come on,
- 59:45Speaker 2: this is Star Trek, this is not Yeah.
- 59:49Speaker 3: But but but I feel like there's an evolution to
- 59:52Speaker 3: to what we first saw, So I'm hoping overall it improves.
- 59:58Speaker 3: The other thing I'll say that I really enjoyed was
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: I think I like that actor Caleb, the main character
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: I think he's pretty good.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a good actor.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, so there you go. Well, should we get
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: to listener feedback? We got a ton of it, So
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: I got an email, So I hope I can hear it. Yeah,
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: I hope you can't do So let's get to listener feedback.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Listener feedback.
- 1:00:30Speaker 6: All right, let me do my email because I'm on
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: two different devices and one's running out of juice.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: So okay, yeah, I go for it.
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: Okay, this email is from Duval front of the show,
- 1:00:42Speaker 6: he says. So I watched the first episode for freeand YouTube.
- 1:00:44Speaker 6: It was okay, not bad, decent enough. Obviously, the doctor
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: was my favorite part of the show, which I give
- 1:00:49Speaker 6: this episode a six out of ten. The Jema dar
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: Klingon had me chuckling, so it might end up being
- 1:00:53Speaker 6: my favorite new character. I honestly didn't hate it, but
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: I do have some issues. One like, seriously, as the
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: chance of the Academy and the captain of the show
- 1:01:00Speaker 6: that chair some respect.
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: Two, I did an eye roll at the bitchline. Yes.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: Three, why didn't they tractor beam or lock a transporter
- 1:01:08Speaker 6: on the escape pod with the villainous mister tic Tacco
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: After getting systems back online on the ship. Who knows four?
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: How are the systems overloaded? But there's no power to
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: shield or weapons? You have too much power but no power. Okay,
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: that's a good point. And just like that, the ship
- 1:01:24Speaker 6: is fine looking, all spick and span, no need for
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: dry dock for repairs or anything. Just a minor inconvenience
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: on the way to Earth, you know, just put her
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: down as the headquarters in San Francisco, no problem. Yeah,
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: just some issues I had with episode one. But anyway
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: to sum up, episode two pretty much felt like a
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: Disney Team dramedy.
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: They could cut.
- 1:01:42Speaker 6: Back a little bit on the goofiness silliness. In my opinion,
- 1:01:45Speaker 6: felt like they were trying way too hard. There needs
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: to be some balance, So I will continue to watch
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: Star Trek the Search for Mommy, Star Trek a Starfleet
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: Academy for now.
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: Yeah, those are my thoughts. Looking forward to hearing your
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: guys thoughts for it devolved a big d Your Trek cast,
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: New York City Freelance correspondent. Additional notes, what are your
- 1:02:05Speaker 6: thoughts on the sixty years of Trek video intro?
- 1:02:09Speaker 9: Uh?
- 1:02:09Speaker 6: They are missing the enterprise E Sorito's Protostar and Calvin Enterprise.
- 1:02:12Speaker 6: And why is the Voyagers warping to cell down when
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: it's supposed to be at war?
- 1:02:18Speaker 5: Oh, yes, Daniel hit the nerd alert. I think that
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: there's a nerd alert.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I was a warning warning, nerd alert, nerd alert.
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: There you go.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I like the new intro.
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I liked it too, but I did. Yeah, there
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: were ships missing, for.
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: Sure, there were, and I realized they can't you know,
- 1:02:43Speaker 5: those were like.
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: The the important ships, the main strips, you.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: Know, yeah, the live action ones, at least most of
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: the right, right. Yeah, So yeah, he had mentioned something
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: in there that that oh yeah, the search for Mommy
- 1:03:06Speaker 3: I still somewhere else. I forget where I saw it.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: But they had pointed out that the relationship between Caleb
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: and and Aki is very similar to the relationship that
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: Kirk and Pike had in the two thousand and nine
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Star Trek, where the mentor finds him at a low spot.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: He's a he's practically a criminal and and all these
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: horrible things, and he's like, let me bring you to
- 1:03:32Speaker 3: Starfleet and show you the roads, kid. Yeah.
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Yeah, but also you know, she's she's a mom without
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: a son. He's a son without a mom. Right, two
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: great tastes to taste great together. You know they're gonna
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: be They're gonna be sending, spending Thanksgiving together. It's gonna
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: be Facebook posts about it.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: Yeah. So there's the thing in writing where like you
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: can kind of get a little bit behind the psychology
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: of a writer if you pay attention to what they
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: write about. And Alex Kurtz has a lot of these.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: I want a mentor. I want someone to show me
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: the ropes kind of characters. Yeah, yeah, like it happens
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: a lot in his writing. So yeah, well, let's try
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: some of these voicemails. Hopefully you can hear them, Dan,
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: So we'll try the first one.
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: We'll recap them. Yeah.
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: Yeah, we have just so many voicemails if we're going
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: to go through them all, here we go.
- 1:04:26Speaker 8: I love Star Trek.
- 1:04:27Speaker 4: I've been watching it since I was young.
- 1:04:30Speaker 10: I've seen a little bit of the new show, and
- 1:04:32Speaker 10: I love the new look at the Klingon. I love
- 1:04:35Speaker 10: the eyebrow piercing on the Klingon. I think the whole
- 1:04:39Speaker 10: show is great. I think they're taking Star Trek in
- 1:04:41Speaker 10: a good direction. I love the show and I appreciate you, guys,
- 1:04:44Speaker 10: thank you, thank you.
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: There you go. He did not say his name, so
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: we don't know who that.
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: Is, but we appreciate you calling.
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry, Uh all right, were you able to hear
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: that Dan?
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Dan mute to himself. He's mute, so we can't hear
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: Dan right now. I don't know. All right, Well, we'll
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: play the next we'll play the next one in the meantime. Yeah, So,
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: we had so many voicemails. I'm leaving the phone number
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: up guys, so if you want to leave us a
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: voicemail in the future, you definitely can. That's the number.
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: Five seven zero six six one zero zero zero one.
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: That's five seven zero six six one zero zero zero one.
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: All right, Yeah, we have more voicemails, so we'll get
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: through these.
- 1:05:32Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: So, here's somebody else who called and gave us their
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: opinion on Starfleet Academy.
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: Starfleet Academy is nothing but seeing we're all sewage. That
- 1:05:43Speaker 7: is an upfront to not only Star Trek's good American values,
- 1:05:48Speaker 7: but to the entirety of science fiction. It is just
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: a bunch of stupid, worthless, whiny little breads. The high pathetic,
- 1:06:01Speaker 7: little soy boys and utter leftist woke garbage. Star Trek
- 1:06:08Speaker 7: has never been woke. Star Trek will never be woke.
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: We are not gate keeping hard enough.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: Well wow, yeah, since he was so angry, I made
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: him a cute little bunny.
- 1:06:20Speaker 6: Oh yeah, well we we appreciate uh, we appreciate you
- 1:06:25Speaker 6: calling in with your uh, with your opinion.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: That's right, that's right. So yeah, that's the other thing, guys,
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: if you leave a voicemail recapped for me, I didn't
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: get any of that. Oh, the cute bunny was very
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: upset about star Trek and that it's never been woke.
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: And let's just say he was wearing his Maga hat
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: while he was sharing.
- 1:06:49Speaker 3: All right, we'll play we'll play another one. We'll play
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: another one.
- 1:06:55Speaker 13: Yeah, Starfie starfe Academy was complete trash.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: It was slightly better.
- 1:07:02Speaker 13: Than I expected it to be, but uh, total junk.
- 1:07:10Speaker 13: Not good by any means, like, by any standard.
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: It was just terrible.
- 1:07:14Speaker 13: The dialogue was just atrocious. I can't believe that anyone
- 1:07:19Speaker 13: would even produce such garbage, Like how how are people
- 1:07:24Speaker 13: not being fired for this?
- 1:07:26Speaker 4: I'm amazed.
- 1:07:28Speaker 13: Anyways, Yeah, that's my two cents, So there you go.
- 1:07:33Speaker 6: Yeah, at least he mentioned something he didn't like, something specific.
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: He said he didn't like the dialogue. And I can
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: see how some people wouldn't like the dialogue. It did
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: seem a little bit forced at times. And I was really,
- 1:07:46Speaker 6: you know, I was conflicted because this was something that
- 1:07:50Speaker 6: was produced and directed by Alex Kurtzman. And I don't
- 1:07:54Speaker 6: know if anybody here knows my opinion of Alex Kurtzman.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: But I hope he I hope he sucked gigs and
- 1:08:01Speaker 6: and and goes away. But I I was, you know,
- 1:08:07Speaker 6: not everything. You know, even a blind squirrel finds a
- 1:08:09Speaker 6: nut every once in a while. And I was, this
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: was above fifty for me. Okay, So but I but
- 1:08:16Speaker 6: I respect the opinion of the callers, you know, a
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: lot of I can understand why a lot of people
- 1:08:19Speaker 6: wouldn't like it.
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: You know, it's it's very Discovery esque.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: So I see that.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: All right, Just a technical question for you, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: can you hear me?
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: I can hear you.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: I can't hear you. Is there something playing right now?
- 1:08:40Speaker 4: Can you hear me?
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: Dan?
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: I can hear you. Okay, Daniel, you that's weird.
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: You don't hear me at all? I think what. I
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: know what Dan's problem is.
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: He doesn't like to hear anything from the left, and
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: I think that's what that's what it is.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: No, I didn't hear any of those voicemails. I'm wondering
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: if they're going through the same audio channel as the
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: like the nerd alert or not. Because I can hear those.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: I have to unmute the nerd alert in order to
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: hear it. But the voicemails I hear nothing. There's no
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: option for me to unmute it or anything like that.
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: Huh.
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: I don't know, and I'm not hearing you at all,
- 1:09:18Speaker 3: Daniel was before. Yeah, I don't want to reset, Okay, Yeah, well,
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: well he resets. Let's play another voicemail because we got
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: still a couple more to do, so, yeah, let's play this.
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: Let's play this other voicemail.
- 1:09:32Speaker 11: It's recorded quickly because I've only got two minutes. This
- 1:09:35Speaker 11: is Tim in England, not Tim and Dan in Australia.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: No, mate, this is Tim now.
- 1:09:42Speaker 11: So I've just made some quick notes and I'm going
- 1:09:44Speaker 11: to go through these really quickly because I've only got
- 1:09:46Speaker 11: two minutes.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: Right, Stafree Academy.
- 1:09:50Speaker 11: I love the pre animation of the ships, you know,
- 1:09:52Speaker 11: showing any Enterprise voyager, you know, all that stuff that
- 1:09:59Speaker 11: was great. I like the first ten minutes, really quite
- 1:10:03Speaker 11: love the first ten minutes.
- 1:10:04Speaker 8: The intro.
- 1:10:05Speaker 11: The music is rubbish. The theme music is awful. But
- 1:10:10Speaker 11: you'll notice that the first few notes at Aileiah's.
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: Theme from Star Trek the motion picture.
- 1:10:15Speaker 11: Why are they being clever or do they just not
- 1:10:17Speaker 11: know that or do they not care? The first officer
- 1:10:20Speaker 11: is doing my head in the half cling on half
- 1:10:22Speaker 11: gem and dar.
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: It's not working for me.
- 1:10:25Speaker 11: Don't force goofiness every three seconds. It ain't working. The
- 1:10:30Speaker 11: ship that breaks into several parts to be starfleetcoming rubbish.
- 1:10:36Speaker 11: I do like the interactions between Kleb and the Captain Luna.
- 1:10:40Speaker 11: I love the whole sort of foster adoptive mother. That
- 1:10:43Speaker 11: was probably my favorite bit. So they say you should
- 1:10:46Speaker 11: say one nice thing that their interaction was really nice.
- 1:10:51Speaker 11: Also like Kleb's interaction with the with the landoner guy,
- 1:10:55Speaker 11: you know, the guy who he was having a fight with,
- 1:10:58Speaker 11: but now they're gonna have a really good relationship. And
- 1:11:01Speaker 11: I think, and I love this the whole sort of
- 1:11:03Speaker 11: roomy with the third chap the betas, what have they done?
- 1:11:06Speaker 11: To the betazoids. I don't get that. Did they even
- 1:11:09Speaker 11: have black eyes? I couldn't see because the show's not
- 1:11:11Speaker 11: very well lit. Yeah, I like the Cockney bloke. Why
- 1:11:15Speaker 11: was Admiral Hansoon and the Betay's head bloke negotiating in
- 1:11:18Speaker 11: front of an audience of cadets? Doesn't make sense. That's
- 1:11:22Speaker 11: one minute fifty five. Love you very much. I'll do
- 1:11:24Speaker 11: another one later. CLA, I love you bye.
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: Damn. That's great.
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: Loved it?
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: Yeah, we we we love hearing from you.
- 1:11:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:11:36Speaker 6: The Betasweit thing with the black guys, we've always seen
- 1:11:40Speaker 6: them with black guys counselor.
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: Examples.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: But are you saying black eyes or black guys?
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: That's what I heard? That's what I heard.
- 1:11:51Speaker 2: Would you gotta be careful with that because it's winter
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: and when it shows and then rains and then refreezes,
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: you know, you could say, hey, be careful, it's a
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: bunch of black eyes out there.
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: Is there a black person here?
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: Oh, I've seen that video of that.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Black purse.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: They're a white person here too.
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: No, I'm not looking for one of those.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: I'm looking for the black person here. Wait, are you
- 1:12:16Speaker 4: saying the black purse? In here. Yeah, yeah, that video
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: black eyes.
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: Uh, you know I didn't.
- 1:12:28Speaker 6: I never noticed it in the next generation with with
- 1:12:32Speaker 6: Councer Troy or even with Lekswana, but you really noticed
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: it with Ensign Suitor A Crew and Suitor in Voyager.
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: They gave him black contexts.
- 1:12:42Speaker 6: So I guess what the what the thing is is
- 1:12:46Speaker 6: that that betazolays have black eyes.
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so hey, real quick, we got one more voicemail
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: to do. Do we still want to have people x
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: up in the chat and come on? Or do we
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: want to do that next week because we'll go really long.
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: We're running late, so yeah, let's let's just have that
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: next week.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Next week. Okay, all right, so let's play our last voicemail.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: This one I saved for last. Clearly somebody got out
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: of the basement, So here we go.
- 1:13:13Speaker 8: Hey, guys, is Chad Woldo? Hey just watch the first episode.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: Haven't watched the.
- 1:13:18Speaker 8: Second episode of Academy. You know, the first episode was fun.
- 1:13:24Speaker 8: It wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be.
- 1:13:27Speaker 8: There's some points in there that were just head scratchers,
- 1:13:30Speaker 8: Like how did they even get that out of the
- 1:13:33Speaker 8: writer's room?
- 1:13:35Speaker 14: You know, Holly Hunter is a hell of.
- 1:13:38Speaker 8: A unique captain. I'll just put it that way. That's
- 1:13:41Speaker 8: set up with.
- 1:13:41Speaker 14: The whole academy being on a ship is strange or
- 1:13:47Speaker 14: gomai Chicken, what can I say? I actually chuckled. I
- 1:13:50Speaker 14: don't know, Like I said, there's parts of this that
- 1:13:53Speaker 14: are just absolutely head scratchers, but I laughed.
- 1:13:57Speaker 8: I laughed.
- 1:13:59Speaker 14: You know, the doctor's not that bad. I mean, seems
- 1:14:01Speaker 14: like his normal self. He's just really old. So I
- 1:14:04Speaker 14: don't know. We'll see how the second episode goes, but if.
- 1:14:07Speaker 8: It's more like the first, then maybe it won't be
- 1:14:10Speaker 8: as horrible as as we all thought.
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: It was.
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: All right, take care, guys, wonderful for those who don't
- 1:14:18Speaker 6: know that was That was Chad Waldo, former host co
- 1:14:24Speaker 6: host of Tredcast, And I just want to say thank
- 1:14:27Speaker 6: him and if he if he keeps up the good
- 1:14:28Speaker 6: behavior I heard, I'll give him more locked flip phone privileges.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: Ty J says Chad, not hating this is an upset. Yeah,
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: so yeah, that's great that he called in. I'm glad
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: that he was able to break free from the basement.
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: That's why he was looking all scraggly in the in
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: the video. That's right. Yeah, but yeah, so hopefully it
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: does continue to be good. Yeah. Oh a waiting game.
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: Chad is always wrong, so nah, yeah, I love it.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: That sounds like he's been forced to read a Austine statement.
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: I can I can neither confirm nor deny.
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: But I would like to thank Chad for for for
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: calling in.
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: I'd also like to thank my good friend of the
- 1:15:28Speaker 6: pack lead who doesn't have a name yet, that's right.
- 1:15:32Speaker 6: I'd like to thank him for calling in and give
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: leaving us his pack lead review and let us know
