- 0:00Speaker 1: Bess Parker played the role of Davy Crockett, King of
- 0:03Speaker 1: the Wild Frontier, Walt Disney's movie. One of my favorites.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I don't know why I just watched it all the time.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I would be drinking Davy Crockett, Crockett coffee. If Chad,
- 0:14Speaker 1: we could, Get Clay to send us the medium roast.
- 0:17Speaker 1: That would be great. I thought you were going to.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Say you were drinking while watching Davy Crockett. I'm thinking, honey,
- 0:22Speaker 2: you were a little young for that back in the day.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You would be drinking a coffee.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I got it now. I wish I could do that
- 0:28Speaker 1: whenever I was watching Jerry Maguire with my grandmother. Crockett
- 0:34Speaker 1: Coffee is started by Clay Travis, also Buck Sexton and
- 0:36Speaker 1: Buck's brother Mason. Named after Davy Crockett, the hunter, storyteller, patriot,

- 1:28Speaker 1: It's delicious. I brewed some this morning. You've got the
- 1:31Speaker 1: Blue Ridge there. The Blue Ridge is the medium blend.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Light is the Sun Creek or the King Mountain is dark.
- 1:38Speaker 1: The dark blend there. Dark Roaches. Hey, you've got the
- 1:43Speaker 1: SEC Big Ten Challenge in a way this past weekend with, what,
- 1:46Speaker 1: three matchups. SEC wins two of them. One of them
- 1:49Speaker 1: just epic with the way Texas, dead to rights. The
- 1:54Speaker 1: looks on their faces, dead. And the way Arch Manning
- 1:58Speaker 1: plays in that fourth quarter, epic. That is one of the,
- 2:03Speaker 1: that's part of his legacy now. That's the moment. Running
- 2:06Speaker 1: around the field when the clock hits triple zero. Well
- 2:10Speaker 1: done with how he responds there. That's how you get
- 2:13Speaker 1: it done. With all the eyes on you, all the
- 2:16Speaker 1: pressure on it. And it's just a classic game. That's
- 2:20Speaker 1: why I want more of this early in the season.
- 2:23Speaker 1: There's so much to run through from this weekend. We're
- 2:25Speaker 1: not going to get to all of it today.
- 2:28Speaker 2: But don't worry. That's why we've got a week's worth
- 2:29Speaker 2: of shows. That's why we've got live content. at Sporting
- 2:32Speaker 2: State all day long, every weekday, is we'll get to
- 2:35Speaker 2: everything by Friday afternoon. But so much to hit on here.
- 2:38Speaker 2: That game specifically, Hutton, I think you hit the nail
- 2:41Speaker 2: on the head. That is the Arch Manning moment right now.
- 2:44Speaker 2: That's the legacy moment that will be remembered. That video
- 2:47Speaker 2: of Matthew McConaughey, who I love the dude because I
- 2:49Speaker 2: feel like he's actually 100% genuine with his celebrations for
- 2:53Speaker 2: his Texas Longhorns and jumping up and down. That is
- 2:56Speaker 2: what Longhorn fans will remember about Arch Manning, if it
- 2:59Speaker 2: encapsulates a moment.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Right now, it's that.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Now, if he goes on to win the national title,
- 3:04Speaker 2: he's going to have plenty of other moments, too. But
- 3:05Speaker 2: that is the moment in that comeback over Ohio State.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I joked on Twitter when Rutgers lost to UMass, I
- 3:12Speaker 2: went to– why did I say it like that?
- 3:13Speaker 1: UMass. UMass.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I've never put an emphasis on the M that way.
- 3:17Speaker 2: When they lost– but now I'm only going to do that.
- 3:20Speaker 2: When they lost to UMass, that– And I posted, Rutgers
- 3:25Speaker 2: is in the Big Ten. And Big Ten fans, of course,
- 3:29Speaker 2: hated that, which was my intent with that. And then
- 3:31Speaker 2: I also put when Michigan should have lost to Western Michigan,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I said, Michigan is in the Big Ten. Well, Big
- 3:37Speaker 2: Ten fans, which was smart, came back at me and said,
- 3:40Speaker 2: Oklahoma is in the SEC. Oklahoma is in the SEC.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Send the tweet when they look bad and lose to
- 3:46Speaker 2: Michigan as a favorite in that game. The turnabout is
- 3:49Speaker 2: fair play. Well played by Big Ten fans. I would
- 3:51Speaker 2: say what Coach Mack always said, though. You got to
- 3:53Speaker 2: keep your powder dry. Because there were two other SEC
- 3:56Speaker 2: Big Ten matchups over the course of the day.
- 3:58Speaker 1: There were.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Mississippi State went to Minneapolis and beat the hell out
- 4:04Speaker 2: of Minnesota.
- 4:04Speaker 1: No contest. In that game.
- 4:06Speaker 2: And I'm telling you right now, we saw them in Tampa.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I've been saying it since the preseason.
- 4:11Speaker 1: You have.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Kamario Taylor is a dude. And he has proven that
- 4:15Speaker 2: in two weeks. Mississippi State, Hutton, I'm going to go
- 4:18Speaker 2: bold here. I think Mississippi State could be the Oklahoma
- 4:21Speaker 2: of this year. Oklahoma came out of nowhere last year
- 4:24Speaker 2: to get to the college football playoff. I think Mississippi
- 4:27Speaker 2: State could be a legitimate team right now through two weeks.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I know it was a nobody.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I know it was Minnesota of all Big Ten teams,
- 4:35Speaker 2: but he looks very impressive. And when you pair Jeff
- 4:38Speaker 2: Levy and his system, which is very similar to Josh
- 4:41Speaker 2: Heupel's system, with the right quarterback who can run and throw,
- 4:44Speaker 2: look out. I think Mississippi State's going to be quite
- 4:46Speaker 2: a bit better than anyone expected. I was impressed with them.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And then, of course, you hit on it. The Texas comeback.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Over Ohio State.
- 4:52Speaker 2: That game was going to define what people thought of
- 4:55Speaker 2: SEC versus Big Ten out of this week, regardless of
- 4:57Speaker 2: what happened in those first two games of the day.
- 4:59Speaker 2: That was going to be the one. And Texas comes
- 5:02Speaker 2: from behind and gets the win. I also don't leave
- 5:05Speaker 2: that game kind of like Texans and Bills. I don't
- 5:07Speaker 2: leave that game feeling any worse about Ohio State.
- 5:09Speaker 1: And they had a game of war.
- 5:10Speaker 2: No.
- 5:11Speaker 1: They should have won the game. They didn't fall that far.
- 5:12Speaker 1: They missed a field goal.
- 5:13Speaker 2: They should have scored a touchdown on another drive. They
- 5:15Speaker 2: were dominating Texas on the road. That's a really good
- 5:18Speaker 2: football team. I know JT's excited.
- 5:20Speaker 1: To hear that. Well, they were up big. I'm agreeing
- 5:22Speaker 1: with you there. They didn't fall that far in the polls, thankfully.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Which is smart. That's the right move by the pollsters.
- 5:28Speaker 1: It is. It is. Going back to– oh, by the way,
- 5:32Speaker 1: somehow Oregon's still ranked. I don't get that. Don't understand that.
- 5:36Speaker 1: So Mississippi State, I would compare them to– If they're
- 5:41Speaker 1: going on a little run here, they're about to be
- 5:45Speaker 1: the Ole Miss from 2021, where we were on the
- 5:49Speaker 1: road with the tailgate, and we end up in week six,
- 5:54Speaker 1: week five, week six, Kiffin's unbeaten and comes in to Alabama, right?
- 5:58Speaker 1: So the next two weeks for Mississippi State, the next
- 6:01Speaker 1: two games, they have South Carolina and Missouri. Then they
- 6:05Speaker 1: play Bama. They're hosting Bama. But they have LSU right after.
- 6:09Speaker 1: They go Bama-LSU back-to-back. If they're unbeaten, that's the game
- 6:15Speaker 1: of the week right there against Bama.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I think they're better than Missouri. I don't know yet
- 6:21Speaker 2: on South Carolina. I don't know that I'm confident enough to.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Pick them necessarily. Is that game in Starkville or in Columbia?
- 6:28Speaker 1: That will be in Columbia, and they're hosting Missouri. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: think they beat Missouri. I think it would be a
- 6:33Speaker 1: gigantic win if they went to Columbia and won.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I don't know that I can pick that right now.
- 6:37Speaker 1: But if they do that, I mean, again, they could.
- 6:40Speaker 2: End up being this surprise team that's competing for a
- 6:43Speaker 2: playoff spot in the SEC.
- 6:45Speaker 1: You're right. I mean, I've seen that. You've nailed it
- 6:48Speaker 1: with their play. They've been very good. Missouri, Hutton. Missouri.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Let's hit on that. Friday night.
- 6:56Speaker 2: The audacity of Kansas to go old-school slavery– in their
- 7:03Speaker 2: hype video of their rivalry against Missouri. I mean, we
- 7:08Speaker 2: are the type of people that, like, if it's funny,
- 7:11Speaker 2: say it.
- 7:12Speaker 1: You know? Like, I'm not here to... Right. I'm not
- 7:15Speaker 1: here to mediate between what is acceptable and what's not
- 7:17Speaker 1: in terms of comedy. Right?
- 7:19Speaker 2: If it offends you, okay, sorry. It may not offend everyone.
- 7:22Speaker 2: And if you laugh at it, it's fine, right? We're
- 7:25Speaker 2: not cancel culture police here.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Right, yeah. We're not trying to cancel. I will say, if.
- 7:30Speaker 2: You are a university... or a football program or an
- 7:33Speaker 2: athletic department.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't go that low. I don't know that I
- 7:39Speaker 1: would go.
- 7:40Speaker 2: To those depths in the interest of making a statement.
- 7:44Speaker 2: And I don't think they were trying to be funny.
- 7:45Speaker 2: It was truly like a good versus evil type of promotion, right?
- 7:51Speaker 1: Like they're evil, we're good. Right. And that's the thing
- 7:54Speaker 1: is like the, I don't think it was meant to
- 7:57Speaker 1: be like to make anyone laugh or smile. You know,
- 8:00Speaker 1: those were funny words. That's the rivalry you're going to
- 8:07Speaker 1: go with for this? What else does Kansas have?
- 8:12Speaker 2: It's Kansas football. They've got K-State and they've got Missouri.
- 8:16Speaker 2: That's it. Look, I don't like Eli Drinkwood that much.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I think he's sort of a smarmy dude. But I
- 8:23Speaker 2: also do not blame him for what he said postgame,
- 8:25Speaker 2: that he's embarrassed for them and this is ridiculous.
- 8:28Speaker 1: We're talking about 9-11 today. and people uniting, and they're
- 8:31Speaker 1: going to go back to U.S.
- 8:32Speaker 2: History of slavery and trying to divide and all that.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I totally agree with him, what he said. And I'll
- 8:38Speaker 2: say this, too. You know, Kansas is Lance Leipold, and
- 8:41Speaker 2: Kansas can say, well, we'll remember that. And those things
- 8:44Speaker 2: do have a way of coming back with karma when
- 8:46Speaker 2: you try to run up the score on somebody and
- 8:49Speaker 2: you do it that way.
- 8:50Speaker 1: But I don't blame Eli.
- 8:52Speaker 2: For saying, yeah, I'm trying to embarrass them the way
- 8:55Speaker 2: they embarrassed themselves with that video late in the game.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I don't mind it. Chad, it is the week. It's
- 9:02Speaker 1: LSU and Ole Miss. It's happening. It is. And the
- 9:07Speaker 1: line opened, I believe, at what? Three and a half?
- 9:10Speaker 1: Is that right? I've not seen it. I've not seen
- 9:12Speaker 1: the line, Chad. It's two and a half or three
- 9:14Speaker 1: and a half. I believe it's three and a half
- 9:16Speaker 1: in favor of LSU on the road and Ole Miss.
- 9:19Speaker 1: This is going to be awesome. Finally, we are going
- 9:23Speaker 1: to hear answers to questions. We get to see how
- 9:25Speaker 1: Kiffin approaches this. After saying that his team's pissed off
- 9:29Speaker 1: that they're only winning by 31 points in the previous matchups.
- 9:33Speaker 1: We'll see how he serves the pot throughout the week.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Tremendous job, I thought, by Tennessee keeping their poise and
- 9:41Speaker 1: sticking with the run game. We discussed the balls. They
- 9:43Speaker 1: get the win on the road against Georgia Tech. And
- 9:45Speaker 1: then there's Vanderbilt. Still trying to find their spot, their
- 9:50Speaker 1: identity a bit. Their firm grip on... who they are
- 9:55Speaker 1: as a team right now. We dive into that as
- 9:57Speaker 1: well straight ahead here on Hutton & Withrow Sports. Day.
- 10:00Speaker 1: It's Hutton & Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bets. You
- 10:04Speaker 1: can go there and get $ 5, or excuse me, play
- 10:07Speaker 1: $ 5 on your first bet. You get $ 100 in bonus
- 10:09Speaker 1: bets at hardrock.bet.com. XXXY Athletics, founded by Jennifer Say, a
- 10:15Speaker 1: former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She walked
- 10:18Speaker 1: away from a corporate job rather than saying something that
- 10:21Speaker 1: she didn't believe. And she started XXXY Athletics instead. The mission,
- 10:25Speaker 1: in their words, empower female athletes and take a stand
- 10:27Speaker 1: for fair competition. They call it the T that launched
- 10:30Speaker 1: the movement. It's real athletic apparel, Chad. It's where you
- 10:33Speaker 1: get the official gear for Clay's expansion franchise, the Nashville Balls.

- 10:51Speaker 1: Over $ 100. XXXYathletics.com. That's XX-XYathletics.com. Hutton, of all the business
- 11:00Speaker 1: interests of Clay Travis, our fearless leader at Sporting State,
- 11:04Speaker 1: from pants, SEC pants, everything else, maybe.
- 11:08Speaker 2: The most unlikely, not just law firms and mortgage companies
- 11:11Speaker 2: and that, But partnering with a women's apparel line was
- 11:15Speaker 2: maybe one of the more shocking things that Clay has
- 11:18Speaker 2: gotten involved in that I never would have guessed he
- 11:20Speaker 2: would be successful in doing. Because Clay is not known
- 11:23Speaker 2: as a fashionista like Joey B. He is not Joe
- 11:25Speaker 2: Burrow when it comes to fashion over the years. So
- 11:28Speaker 2: him knowing women's fashion the way he does has really
- 11:30Speaker 2: shocked me.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Hey, I told him on the plane yesterday, I said...
- 11:34Speaker 1: There is a lane, I think, to distribute all the
- 11:38Speaker 1: gear in Pickleball. Everybody post about Pickleball, RH. Everybody. I've
- 11:43Speaker 1: never played. I don't think you've played yet. No, I would.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I would like to.
- 11:46Speaker 2: It looks fun to me. I just can't find anyone
- 11:48Speaker 2: that'll play with me. It's like my childhood all over again.
- 11:53Speaker 2: No one will play with me.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I'm going to make JT play with me. Is this
- 11:59Speaker 1: like our childhood in 98? Is this the ball season
- 12:01Speaker 1: like 98? A really nice win. down in Atlanta. Quarterback
- 12:06Speaker 1: stayed composed in the first road start. They stuck with
- 12:10Speaker 1: the run game, even though it wasn't pretty at times
- 12:13Speaker 1: up front. They stuck with it throughout this game, and
- 12:17Speaker 1: eventually they hit with it. And the defense is out
- 12:20Speaker 1: there just making plays, covering sideline to sideline. I just
- 12:23Speaker 1: thought it was just a thorough victory. Not everything goes right,
- 12:27Speaker 1: but for where they are, this is normally, to me,
- 12:31Speaker 1: a game that It comes down to like a final drive,
- 12:34Speaker 1: a kick. They get out of there even though they've
- 12:37Speaker 1: turned it over several times or they lose a game
- 12:40Speaker 1: they're not supposed to. They were favored by 12 and
- 12:42Speaker 1: a half. It looked like it.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the rare thing, Hutton. And we called this,
- 12:48Speaker 2: I know you had it in one of your picks
- 12:50Speaker 2: last week for Tennessee to cover. And I kept saying
- 12:52Speaker 2: all week, I'm like, I mean, haven't seen the just
- 12:55Speaker 2: turned 18-year-old quarterback on the road yet. But yeah, Tennessee
- 12:58Speaker 2: just looks like they're quite a bit better. than Georgia Tech,
- 13:01Speaker 2: and if they just play their game, they're going to
- 13:03Speaker 2: go win easily. And that game went about exactly as
- 13:05Speaker 2: we expected. You can't say that often, right? Like it
- 13:08Speaker 2: went pretty much according to script. It might be a
- 13:10Speaker 2: little bit close early. There could be a bump in
- 13:12Speaker 2: the road. That block punt for a touchdown to give
- 13:15Speaker 2: Georgia Tech the lead was that bump.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But I'm watching.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I never felt threatened by Tennessee. I'm like, okay, they'll
- 13:22Speaker 2: come back down and score. And then the second half,
- 13:24Speaker 2: especially when injuries started mounting for Georgia Tech, they just
- 13:27Speaker 2: started rolling with the run game. You look at Faison Brandon,
- 13:31Speaker 2: 10 for 21, 148 yards, two touchdowns, seven-yard average per completion,
- 13:36Speaker 2: 88.7 QBR. That doesn't jump off the screen at you
- 13:40Speaker 2: as some giant statistical game, but I thought he was
- 13:43Speaker 2: excellent in that game and really took another step in
- 13:46Speaker 2: his progression. There's a fourth and two play early in
- 13:48Speaker 2: that game. Tennessee's down, I think, 10 to 7 at
- 13:51Speaker 2: that point after the block punt for the touchdown for
- 13:53Speaker 2: Georgia Tech. They had no business picking it up. Georgia
- 13:56Speaker 2: Tech had it red. There's two guys in the backfield
- 13:59Speaker 2: on them. He's trying to run to pick it up.
- 14:00Speaker 2: He sidesteps one guy and busts it, what I want
- 14:05Speaker 2: to see Cam Ward do when he scrambles. And he
- 14:07Speaker 2: dives forward and picks it up by a yard and
- 14:10Speaker 2: knew exactly where the sticks were and moved the sticks.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Four times, I think, he ran. It might have been
- 14:16Speaker 2: for three or four yards, but it was a pickup
- 14:17Speaker 2: of a first down. When he took off running, he
- 14:20Speaker 2: moved the sticks with his feet on– And to my knowledge,
- 14:23Speaker 2: I don't know that Tennessee called a design quarterback run
- 14:26Speaker 2: in the game, which surprised me too. I thought they'd
- 14:28Speaker 2: need that against Georgia Tech. They're definitely going to need
- 14:31Speaker 2: it against some SEC teams as they go along, but
- 14:33Speaker 2: I don't think they called a design QB run. That
- 14:35Speaker 2: was just him being smart, picking up something when nothing
- 14:38Speaker 2: else was there. I was really impressed with Faison Brandon.
- 14:41Speaker 2: My big takeaway, I think Tennessee's got a dude at quarterback.
- 14:44Speaker 2: We can talk about that with Mississippi State and Kamario Taylor.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I think Alabama is in a similar situation with their
- 14:49Speaker 2: young quarterback. Tennessee defensively has been as good as advertised.
- 14:54Speaker 2: When you bring in the $ 2 million coordinator and Jim
- 14:57Speaker 2: Knowles and what they're paying him, I think they've looked
- 14:59Speaker 2: a lot better. Those safeties are a huge upgrade. You
- 15:03Speaker 2: saw Lane with a pick six, but I'm thinking Tennessee
- 15:06Speaker 2: safety play looks a lot better. The one negative, 14
- 15:09Speaker 2: penalties are a lot. That was the most penalty yardage
- 15:12Speaker 2: in the Josh Heupel era. It tied the Music City
- 15:15Speaker 2: Bowl game against Purdue for the most penalties. That's the
- 15:18Speaker 2: most penalty yardage. that he's had, they've got to clean
- 15:21Speaker 2: some of that stuff up. But you also didn't turn
- 15:23Speaker 2: the football over. You had the special teams miscue, but
- 15:27Speaker 2: not a single turnover by the offense. And again, that's
- 15:29Speaker 2: a true freshman quarterback who's not even putting the ball
- 15:32Speaker 2: in harm's way one time that I can remember in
- 15:34Speaker 2: that game.
- 15:35Speaker 1: So all in all, a really good performance. And that
- 15:37Speaker 1: sets up a week from, what, Saturday, the number one
- 15:41Speaker 1: team in the country will be coming to Knoxville. And
- 15:45Speaker 1: Tennessee could move up another spot or two Based on
- 15:49Speaker 1: what happens in the top ten, we'll see. But that
- 15:53Speaker 1: sets up– the only downside is when that game kicks off.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I think it's, what, noon? Yeah, it's early. I hate that. But,
- 15:59Speaker 1: I mean, that's tremendous for where Tennessee is and what
- 16:03Speaker 1: that could mean for going into the stretch of October
- 16:08Speaker 1: against some rivalry matchups. Yeah, I'm with you on that.
- 16:13Speaker 2: And, look, Tennessee had to win that game on Saturday
- 16:16Speaker 2: to have the season they want to have. Yes. So
- 16:18Speaker 2: challenge accepted, and they passed the test in that one.
- 16:21Speaker 2: They're going to be 3-0. They get Kennesaw State this week.
- 16:24Speaker 2: They get 3-0 to play Texas. That's going to be
- 16:27Speaker 2: a huge– that's our next college football Friday night show.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Tailgate show with Sporting State also will be that Friday
- 16:33Speaker 2: night before Tennessee and Texas. I was thoroughly impressed, Hutton.
- 16:38Speaker 2: I thought Tennessee had a good game plan, did well
- 16:40Speaker 2: in that game.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I come out of that.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Thinking, okay, they're what we thought they could be on
- 16:45Speaker 2: the high end right now through two weeks.
- 16:47Speaker 1: This is a team that could challenge for the back
- 16:50Speaker 1: end of the college football playoff. They're doing what they
- 16:52Speaker 1: should be doing. So the LSU Ole Miss, by the way,
- 16:55Speaker 1: the spread, the line's two and a half, three, and
- 16:59Speaker 1: over under 58 and a half LSU favored in that
- 17:02Speaker 1: game at hard rock bets. And you could go there
- 17:06Speaker 1: and play $ 5, get $ 100 in a bonus bet. My
- 17:10Speaker 1: hardrock.bet slash clay. Vols against Kennesaw State. That's 35 and
- 17:16Speaker 1: a half right now. I'm going to rush there and
- 17:19Speaker 1: get that, I think. And Vanderbilt NC State. Vandy, a
- 17:23Speaker 1: four and a half point favorite. Despite the season's been
- 17:28Speaker 1: a grind at this point. It has been a struggle
- 17:31Speaker 1: at times. There's a brewing quarterback controversy, which I think
- 17:35Speaker 1: is good for Jerry Curtis. It's not brewing. It's there.
- 17:38Speaker 1: There was a controversy with those two. But they continued
- 17:43Speaker 1: to start him to begin the year. They went with
- 17:45Speaker 1: him saying that he was going to come off the bench.
- 17:49Speaker 1: He was going to play. They're about to start him
- 17:52Speaker 1: moving into SEC scheduling. And that's fascinating to me. But
- 17:58Speaker 1: it's hard to find your footing if you don't have
- 18:03Speaker 1: the quarterback as your leader. And I don't think they
- 18:06Speaker 1: do that until they have the freshman coming to do it. Well,
- 18:11Speaker 1: they beat Delaware by nine points. I know. And Austin
- 18:14Speaker 1: Peay was a struggle.
- 18:16Speaker 2: They were behind to the Blue Hens of Delaware at halftime.
- 18:19Speaker 2: And Joe Flacco's not quarterback at Delaware, last I checked.
- 18:22Speaker 1: That's right. On this team. Yeah, I mean, look, Jared Curtis,
- 18:27Speaker 1: 14 for 22, 2-10, a touchdown.
- 18:29Speaker 2: He's got to be the starter. I just– I don't
- 18:32Speaker 2: know what you're looking at. You got– Blaise Burwood's getting
- 18:35Speaker 2: booed coming off the field. They're trailing, or it was
- 18:38Speaker 2: a close game at halftime. And I did not get
- 18:41Speaker 2: a chance to see much of this game, but having
- 18:44Speaker 2: read about it, and our guy Mark was telling us
- 18:46Speaker 2: that there were some boo birds from Vandy fans. I just–
- 18:49Speaker 2: I don't know what– You're proving right now if you're
- 18:52Speaker 2: Clark Lee. Look, it's his decision. He knows the team
- 18:54Speaker 2: better than we do. He's around them all the time.
- 18:57Speaker 1: That's right.
- 18:57Speaker 2: I understand you can't lie to your team and be like, hey,
- 18:59Speaker 2: the fans want this, so I'm going to do it.
- 19:02Speaker 2: They know who the better quarterback is. I just don't
- 19:04Speaker 2: understand how Jared Curtis, even from what limited I've seen
- 19:08Speaker 2: of him this year, is not their best option at quarterback.
- 19:11Speaker 2: And I'm seeing a team that through two weeks, and
- 19:15Speaker 2: they've played nobody yet, they look like they're going to
- 19:18Speaker 2: take a sizable step back. from what they were a
- 19:20Speaker 2: year ago as a 10-win team. That's the Vandy team
- 19:23Speaker 2: I see right now on the field.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Their special teams right now is their safety net. This
- 19:29Speaker 1: is back-to-back games with a block kick for a touchdown.
- 19:33Speaker 1: They had that in this matchup that really sparked where
- 19:36Speaker 1: they ended up. But run defense looks pretty bad. Consistency there.
- 19:43Speaker 1: And I would just say, like, We're about to see
- 19:46Speaker 1: the freshman. When it gets to this point, they're about
- 19:48Speaker 1: to make the quarterback switch at some point soon. I
- 19:52Speaker 1: just think it would benefit them to go ahead and
- 19:54Speaker 1: start the season with him if you're going to make
- 19:56Speaker 1: the switch right as you begin conference play. I don't
- 19:58Speaker 1: think that's beneficial to the freshman for Jared Curtis to
- 20:02Speaker 1: do that. I think part of this, too, played into it, Chad,
- 20:06Speaker 1: was Where he played in high school, the level he played,
- 20:09Speaker 1: the competition he faced, that's no fault of his own.
- 20:12Speaker 1: I mean, he wanted to stay there and play, whatever.
- 20:15Speaker 1: But he's a five-star for a reason. Play him. If
- 20:19Speaker 1: I'm side of the five-star and I'm paying him, I'm
- 20:22Speaker 1: playing him.
- 20:23Speaker 2: And I'm just not seeing Blaise Berlowitz showing and playing
- 20:27Speaker 2: well enough to say, oh, I get it, why they're
- 20:29Speaker 2: going with a veteran. Like, he knows the offense. He's
- 20:31Speaker 2: operating it well. They're really humming on offense. You need
- 20:34Speaker 2: to hum on offense against Austin Peay in Delaware. And
- 20:37Speaker 2: they haven't done that. And Blaise Berlitz has been the starter. So, look,
- 20:43Speaker 2: sometimes the most likely– it's Occam's razor. The most likely
- 20:46Speaker 2: outcome or solution is the outcome or solution. Start Jared Curtis.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Let's stop messing around with this. You're paying the guy
- 20:55Speaker 2: a lot of money. He's the five-star guy to be there,
- 20:57Speaker 2: and you want to start him. I thought about this, too,
- 20:59Speaker 2: going into that game. I do think that Clark Lee
- 21:02Speaker 2: views his program– as something that is elite because that's
- 21:07Speaker 2: what he is building and that's what he's working towards being.
- 21:10Speaker 2: So he's not looking at it the way everybody else
- 21:13Speaker 2: is looking at it, including Vandy fans.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Because Vandy fans have been around that program for years
- 21:17Speaker 1: and have experienced a ton of success. And now they're
- 21:19Speaker 1: going to games. They're going to games, but also, Hutton,
- 21:21Speaker 1: they're sitting there thinking, we don't get five-star quarterbacks at Vandy.
- 21:26Speaker 1: We've got this prized recruited quarterback, and you mean to
- 21:29Speaker 1: tell me he's not starting?
- 21:31Speaker 2: I think the Vandy mentality of the fans– is even
- 21:34Speaker 2: leading towards the Boo Birds at Blaise Berlowitz and the
- 21:38Speaker 2: questioning of Clark Lee and his decision because they're not
- 21:41Speaker 2: used to this. You know, I think the thought is
- 21:45Speaker 2: this dude left Georgia. You know, he was going to
- 21:47Speaker 2: go to Georgia, and he's here with us? Then we're
- 21:51Speaker 2: starting him right away.
- 21:52Speaker 1: We're Vandy.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We don't sit that guy on the bench. We want
- 21:55Speaker 2: to see this guy play, and he needs to start.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Clark Lee doesn't look at it that way. Clark Lee
- 21:59Speaker 2: is saying we are Georgia. That's the way he views
- 22:02Speaker 2: his program, right? I admire that about Clark Lee, but
- 22:05Speaker 2: that's what he's building, and that's the way he views
- 22:08Speaker 2: the operation and what they're doing. We are going to
- 22:11Speaker 2: be a top-notch SEC team in programming. We're going to
- 22:14Speaker 2: make decisions accordingly, and that decision is not going to
- 22:17Speaker 2: be just to start the guy because he's a five-star
- 22:19Speaker 2: freshman because we've never gotten one before, and we've got
- 22:22Speaker 2: to make sure he's happy. And that he's not upset
- 22:25Speaker 2: about not starting. So, look, I get all the different
- 22:28Speaker 2: thoughts on this. This is an opinion-based show. My opinion
- 22:32Speaker 2: on this, start the five-star freshman. Because the other dude's
- 22:34Speaker 2: not doing enough to warrant not starting the five-star freshman.
- 22:38Speaker 1: It needs to start this week against NC State. Chad,
- 22:41Speaker 1: Florida State this morning has fired their athletic director, Michael Alford.
- 22:46Speaker 1: That's according to On3. Didn't pay his light bill. And
- 22:50Speaker 1: he got fired because they shut the power out on him. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 1: but they owe a two-star. So they've had the loss
- 23:03Speaker 1: to SMU, and then they play Alabama this week.
- 23:08Speaker 2: So that's one step before Mike Norvell gets fired.
- 23:17Speaker 1: That's the storyline.
- 23:18Speaker 2: The new AD is now going to fire Mike Norvell
- 23:20Speaker 2: after the season, or in the season.
- 23:24Speaker 1: The cleaning of the house, right? The interim will end
- 23:30Speaker 1: up getting the job, right? Is that what you're saying? No,
- 23:33Speaker 1: I'm saying no.
- 23:35Speaker 2: No, I'm saying whoever they hire as AD, this is
- 23:38Speaker 2: the move, the preliminary strike. They will hire a new
- 23:40Speaker 2: AD who will then fire Mike Morvell and hire his guy.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Just like Amy Adams-Strunk will fire Mike Borgonzi, and then
- 23:48Speaker 2: the next one on the chopping block will be the
- 23:49Speaker 2: new head coach, Robert Sala. And time and time again,
- 23:52Speaker 2: rinse and repeat, the cycle of who's next to blame.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Arch Manning will go about 12 games as the starter
- 23:59Speaker 1: before they fire his OC as well, and they have
- 24:01Speaker 1: to learn a new offense. Right, and then you start
- 24:03Speaker 1: the process all over again. Go ahead.
- 24:06Speaker 2: No, I was going to say, to me that's a
- 24:09Speaker 2: clear signal that Mike Norvell will be gone with the
- 24:12Speaker 2: new AD when they eventually fire him too.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Since they won the ACC title in 2023, Florida State–
- 24:21Speaker 1: is 8-18. Since they went 13-1 that year and didn't
- 24:25Speaker 1: get in the playoff, right? Since then, they're 8-18. That
- 24:29Speaker 1: is crazy.
- 24:32Speaker 2: No one is given anything. No one is promised anything.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Even Florida State in a down ACC has been miserable.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Even after a really good season with Mike Norvell. I mean,
- 24:43Speaker 2: that's just a lesson to everyone. If you're successful right now,
- 24:46Speaker 2: it does not mean you're going to always be successful.
- 24:48Speaker 2: In an NIL world, you've got to spend money smartly,
- 24:51Speaker 2: and you've got to bring in the right guys, and
- 24:53Speaker 2: that's where Florida State has failed.
- 24:55Speaker 1: But those brands, if they fail, they fail for a
- 24:59Speaker 1: year or two, right? and then they're on the climb.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I think of Miami in that regard. Clemson and Florida State.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Clemson's on the opposite end of it where they're not
- 25:08Speaker 1: even investing. Florida State's always... It's just, man, the coaching
- 25:13Speaker 1: has been not... They haven't pulled the trigger. They finally
- 25:17Speaker 1: did here. Coming up, we find out what we made
- 25:21Speaker 1: this weekend. It is amazing how I try to speak
- 25:26Speaker 1: something into existence. I'm firm on something, and I'm close
- 25:29Speaker 1: to getting it, and then Week one happens at the NFL.
- 25:34Speaker 1: And what we did hit on, we tell you how
- 25:38Speaker 1: you need to follow us. You need to roll with
- 25:40Speaker 1: us with our locks. That's next year on Huntley Withrow.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Huntley Withrow, good morning to you. SportingState.com. We are presented
- 25:46Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet. They threw a tremendous kickoff party yesterday, Chad.
- 25:51Speaker 1: You were there in spirit. I told everyone that you
- 25:56Speaker 1: would have been there if not for some tournaments going on.
- 25:59Speaker 1: They totally understood. We got to meet Joe for the
- 26:02Speaker 1: first time. He's awesome. And Clay and I had a blast. And,
- 26:06Speaker 1: of course, Kelly is great at the app, trying to
- 26:10Speaker 1: describe the app to people that were there. The place
- 26:13Speaker 1: was jam-packed. She knows the app in and out. She
- 26:16Speaker 1: can describe it very well on how to find something
- 26:19Speaker 1: without even having the app open. Kelly in Vegas would
- 26:22Speaker 1: know that. But I was impressed, let's say that.
- 26:27Speaker 2: She's our betting tech expert. Also, on all the ins
- 26:32Speaker 2: and outs of the Hard Rock Bet app. So, Hutton,
- 26:34Speaker 2: I wish I was there in body as well as spirit. So,
- 26:37Speaker 2: I know you guys crushed it and had.
- 26:39Speaker 1: A great time. And we'll make the next one.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I'm sure there's going to be other events with Hard
- 26:43Speaker 2: Rock Bet. We're really excited to partner with those guys
- 26:45Speaker 2: and gals on everything we're doing with sports wagering.
- 26:48Speaker 1: So, the pictures look great. Looks like a fun time.
- 26:52Speaker 1: I'm glad you guys got to experience. The whole crew
- 26:55Speaker 1: with Hard Rock Bet, too. They're awesome. And what I
- 26:59Speaker 1: took away from this is The base that we have
- 27:02Speaker 1: right now at Sporting State is a very, if this
- 27:05Speaker 1: is the floor, it's a high floor. Very high floor.
- 27:08Speaker 1: You and I agree on that with our staff that
- 27:10Speaker 1: we have here in the mornings. But across the board
- 27:11Speaker 1: with the shows and then partnering with them, it's great.
- 27:16Speaker 1: And there's a lot more to come. Maybe a little
- 27:19Speaker 1: NCAA tournament action coming up, Chad. Can't wait. You're saying
- 27:23Speaker 1: that our floor is higher than what we saw with
- 27:24Speaker 1: the Titans' floor. Yesterday. Their floor, they're continuing to go down.
- 27:28Speaker 1: It's like you've got the garage that goes underground. It's
- 27:33Speaker 1: the other way. We continue to go up, up, up.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Their floor is lower. That's right. We're fifth level with
- 27:38Speaker 1: the pool at the condo, right? Yeah. Right now, you
- 27:41Speaker 1: can go to hardrock.bet.com. $ 5 is what you wager. You
- 27:47Speaker 1: get $ 100 in bonus bets. You can do that right now. Hardrock.bet.com. Chad,
- 27:53Speaker 1: the bonus bets keep pouring in for me, too. I've
- 27:56Speaker 1: been using those with some of what we've been doing
- 27:58Speaker 1: during the week. But coming up later this week, we
- 28:01Speaker 1: have our Hard Rock Lock of the Week. You and I,
- 28:05Speaker 1: we got it done this week. We did. Well done
- 28:08Speaker 1: on your pick. You went with, what, minus 21.5? I did.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I went with Virginia Tech, minus 21.5.
- 28:14Speaker 2: And I am a winner with the Hard Rock Lock
- 28:19Speaker 2: bet last week.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Barely. I think they won 44-21.
- 28:23Speaker 2: So I won by, what, a point and a half
- 28:25Speaker 2: or so on covering that spread against Old Dominion. But
- 28:27Speaker 2: like I said, James Franklin, these are games he wins.
- 28:30Speaker 2: And he looks good in when he's going against non-conference competition. Yeah,
- 28:34Speaker 2: you crushed that. The real test will come with the
- 28:37Speaker 2: big ACC rivals ahead on his schedule. But so far,
- 28:40Speaker 2: so good for James Franklin and Virginia Tech. I'd also
- 28:42Speaker 2: say that I'm going to take, you know, Jacob Lutz
- 28:45Speaker 2: was asking us in the break, like, did your parlay hit?
- 28:49Speaker 1: Did your this hit? I'm going to take the Cam
- 28:51Speaker 1: Ward approach.
- 28:52Speaker 2: On this segment, and I'm only going to talk about
- 28:54Speaker 2: my successes. Any failure is on somebody else.
- 28:58Speaker 1: It's not on me. It's on my producer, or it's
- 29:01Speaker 1: on you, Hutton, or it's on.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Kelly in Vegas because I took bad advice from her.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I will only tell you about the bets that I hit.
- 29:08Speaker 2: On this show, that's going to be a consistent feature
- 29:10Speaker 2: on Mondays. So I would only like to talk about
- 29:13Speaker 2: Virginia Tech covering the spread in my Hard Rock Lock.
- 29:16Speaker 2: I will discuss nothing else except bets that I hit
- 29:19Speaker 2: on during this segment. That is what I'm terming the
- 29:21Speaker 2: Cam Ward approach to press conference and show making.
- 29:26Speaker 1: So Clay and Kelly have this friendly rivalry going with
- 29:32Speaker 1: his bets versus hers. She's fading Clay. of the picks.
- 29:37Speaker 1: I believe he had a winning day pretty good yesterday.
- 29:40Speaker 1: And she was not pleased with the success rate, let's
- 29:43Speaker 1: say that, because she wasn't having the same success if
- 29:46Speaker 1: she's fading clay there. Here's where I hit. You're going
- 29:50Speaker 1: to get a kick out of this. So Western Michigan,
- 29:52Speaker 1: my lock of the week last week, you and I both,
- 29:54Speaker 1: our locks hit. Minus 27.5. They got the job done.
- 29:58Speaker 1: They responded well. They're 2-0. We're going to call them
- 30:00Speaker 1: 2-0 on the season. And I hit with the 49ers
- 30:04Speaker 1: last Thursday. One outright, and we also hit the first
- 30:07Speaker 1: half under there. But here's where... It's just that you
- 30:12Speaker 1: know something that is very consistent. The trend, year after year.
- 30:16Speaker 1: I mentioned, and this is going back several years, the
- 30:20Speaker 1: NFL early on, offenses struggle. You go with the under,
- 30:23Speaker 1: especially the first half under. Chad, 10 different teams in
- 30:27Speaker 1: week one so far have scored at least 30 points.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Games averaged 50 points per game combined with the two teams.
- 30:34Speaker 1: That is the highest week one scoring output ever. So
- 30:39Speaker 1: they go from low scores to now the highest ever
- 30:43Speaker 1: combined on the scoreboard. Of course, the Titans Jets didn't
- 30:46Speaker 1: get there, but practically every other game did, the Bears
- 30:51Speaker 1: being the highest. They boat raced. Carolina, even Carolina surpassed
- 30:55Speaker 1: the threshold that we're talking about here.
- 30:58Speaker 2: I will violate my own rule and tell you where
- 31:00Speaker 2: I did lose the one parlay that was for this week,
- 31:03Speaker 2: or it was actually our profit like it's hot. for
- 31:06Speaker 2: this past week because it's hilarious how.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I lost it. I went under, under, over.
- 31:12Speaker 2: I went under Rutgers-Boston College and won in total points.
- 31:16Speaker 2: I went over Missouri-Kansas and won on the over. I
- 31:21Speaker 2: went under NC State and Richmond and even ridiculed the
- 31:26Speaker 2: NC State offense and what.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I saw in the first week. NC State won the
- 31:30Speaker 1: game 73-0. Against Richmond.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Covering the over by a lot. I think the over
- 31:36Speaker 2: was like 53. They covered it by 20 points by themselves.
- 31:41Speaker 2: So that's where I hit two or three legs on
- 31:43Speaker 2: the parlay, which as we know does not count. But regardless, again,
- 31:47Speaker 2: that's my one violation of my own rule where I'll
- 31:49Speaker 2: discuss my failures over the weekend. But hey, Virginia Tech
- 31:52Speaker 2: Hokies came through for me. And Kelly also... Let's take
- 31:56Speaker 2: this chance, who continued to hit me up on Twitter
- 31:59Speaker 2: all week.
- 31:59Speaker 1: You nervous about Georgia Tech, Tennessee? You nervous about your Vols? Oh, man.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Did she take Georgia Tech money line, or did she
- 32:06Speaker 1: just take them to cover? She took Georgia Tech money line. Yeah.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Talking all that trash, and then she had to tuck
- 32:12Speaker 2: tail and, well, I'll see you in Knoxville.
- 32:14Speaker 1: In a couple weeks. And that was her big money parlay, right?
- 32:17Speaker 1: That's her.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I believe that was part of her parlay, was the
- 32:21Speaker 1: Georgia Tech money line. Anyway, we know how difficult it
- 32:23Speaker 1: is in a parlay. But she was talking trash. She
- 32:25Speaker 1: has to hear it now. Tennessee, I'm not betting against Tennessee.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Well, she just kept going, you know, on to Knoxville,
- 32:33Speaker 2: on to Knoxville, because she's going to be there next
- 32:34Speaker 2: week with us.
- 32:35Speaker 1: And I'm thinking, okay, if you're allowed, then you'll be
- 32:37Speaker 1: in Knoxville. We'll have to see. We'll have to reevaluate
- 32:40Speaker 1: after that pick. Hey, tonight, Monday Night Football, I'm taking
- 32:44Speaker 1: Broncos money line. $ 5 pays out $ 10. 75. You can use
- 32:49Speaker 1: the offer on the app, bet $ 5, get 100 in
- 32:52Speaker 1: bonus bets. They won in Kansas City last year. Elite
- 32:57Speaker 1: defense returns for them, Chad. Jalen Waddell, they're added to
- 33:01Speaker 1: the offense there. They're going against a rookie at corner
- 33:05Speaker 1: and LeJarius Sneed. We know how Sneed has been with
- 33:08Speaker 1: the Tennessee Titans. They have Waddell and Cortland Sutton. They've added,
- 33:12Speaker 1: I know Kansas City has added Kenneth Walker III. But
- 33:17Speaker 1: Denver returns what was the number two run defense in
- 33:20Speaker 1: the NFL. I'm just confident about their defense showing up. Yes,
- 33:24Speaker 1: this is me saying that I'm probably going to take
- 33:26Speaker 1: the under as well. But I haven't yet, based on
- 33:29Speaker 1: the scoring out. But I'm taking Denver because I think
- 33:31Speaker 1: they're better than Kansas City. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 33:34Speaker 2: This is our show bet for the Broncos' money line tonight.
- 33:38Speaker 2: I think the Broncos are heavily undervalued in that division.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I mean, you look at the Hard Rock Bet odds futures,
- 33:45Speaker 2: to win the AFC West. They're third in that division.
- 33:48Speaker 2: We saw the Chargers lose yesterday. I like this Broncos team.
- 33:53Speaker 2: I think they win this game tonight.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Against Kansas City also. A big moment for Kansas City
- 33:57Speaker 1: this season.
- 33:58Speaker 2: It's going to define probably the next three or four
- 34:00Speaker 2: years of the organization.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Is this a team.
- 34:02Speaker 2: That is going to fall off a cliff and have
- 34:05Speaker 2: to reset with Patrick Mahomes as the franchise guy around him?
- 34:09Speaker 2: Or is this a team that's got another season or
- 34:10Speaker 2: two left of contending for a Super Bowl? We start
- 34:14Speaker 2: to find out tonight.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Doesn't it always feel like Kansas City plays at home? Always.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Every time they're national, it always feels like the Chiefs
- 34:22Speaker 1: are playing at home. Taking Denver tonight, that's also, JT's
- 34:25Speaker 1: going to be very pleased with that. The takeaway from
- 34:28Speaker 1: some of the guys that met yesterday in Miami, John Wall,
- 34:33Speaker 1: trying to think of some of the other, Joe Kim,
- 34:35Speaker 1: I know he's very tall, but you think about these
- 34:37Speaker 1: guards in the NBA, and you're trying to compare your
- 34:40Speaker 1: own size to these guys, and they're still towering over you.
- 34:42Speaker 1: It's still jarring. When you see, like, on TV, they're
- 34:45Speaker 1: all the same size, roughly. So you think about it
- 34:48Speaker 1: in your everyday walk of life. And then you see
- 34:52Speaker 1: these guys, you're like, whoa. Like, you're looking up at
- 34:55Speaker 1: Eli Manning. And it's just a different point of view.
- 35:00Speaker 2: John Wall is listed at 6'4, you know, as a
- 35:03Speaker 2: point guard.
- 35:04Speaker 1: I'm sure he looked like a giant, too. But even
- 35:07Speaker 1: in person, like, he just seemed taller.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 1: And there were several other players there. Jonathan Vilma was there,
- 35:15Speaker 1: for instance. That was cool to see him. Jeremy Shockey
- 35:19Speaker 1: was there. A lot of Miami presence. That's awesome. And
- 35:22Speaker 1: Jimmy Johnson, who got on stage and got on stage
- 35:26Speaker 1: with Clay and had a chat. It was cool. We
- 35:29Speaker 1: had to fill some time because there was a storm
- 35:30Speaker 1: that came through. And the storm that hit knocked out
- 35:35Speaker 1: the DirecTV feed for a bit. And so we were
- 35:39Speaker 1: We were chatting about who we like in the SEC
- 35:42Speaker 1: and different things. And we looked out, and Marlon's man
- 35:45Speaker 1: is there. Oh, yeah.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Well, I've got to ask, what was the private jet
- 35:49Speaker 2: setup like? How long were you in Miami, and when
- 35:54Speaker 2: did you come back?
- 35:54Speaker 1: Okay, so we landed at about 1.30. We were at
- 35:56Speaker 1: the event at 2 o'clock. We left at 5.30. We
- 36:04Speaker 1: got done early a little bit. We went back to
- 36:08Speaker 1: the tarmac right around 5.30. This is all Eastern time
- 36:11Speaker 1: you're talking about too, right? Well, yes. Eastern time. We
- 36:15Speaker 1: were there for about a total of four hours. Car service.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Hard Rock hooked it up, man. We took off. We
- 36:23Speaker 1: landed at 2 o'clock Eastern at the event. We went
- 36:27Speaker 1: through the kitchen area to get to the VIP. Clay's
- 36:31Speaker 1: got the Got the setup. The food was awesome. The
- 36:36Speaker 1: place was packed. And the thing that really hit me,
- 36:40Speaker 1: it's like they had some giveaways. We had autographed jerseys
- 36:44Speaker 1: and things we were giving away. During the weather issue
- 36:48Speaker 1: that knocked off the feed, I'm talking like it was
- 36:51Speaker 1: 10 minutes or so, everybody stayed in the room, which
- 36:55Speaker 1: I found unusual. Most people scatter and come back. Everybody
- 37:01Speaker 1: just packed it out. And it's a pretty large, I
- 37:04Speaker 1: would compare it to like a convention center ballroom type
- 37:07Speaker 1: feel with TVs everywhere, massive screens. You're going to love it.
- 37:11Speaker 1: It's perfect for awesome madness. Perfect for it. I want to,
- 37:14Speaker 1: I want to kick off week one every year like
- 37:17Speaker 1: this in September, go big. Cause that's exactly what they did.
- 37:22Speaker 2: Can't wait to take part in the next one, Hutton.
- 37:24Speaker 2: I was jealous when you guys were down there. It
- 37:26Speaker 2: sounds like an incredible time. And it's good to hear
- 37:29Speaker 2: that Kelly behaved herself and didn't get kicked out or
- 37:32Speaker 2: get in any fights or anything.
- 37:33Speaker 1: So it's nice to know that she can be a professional.
- 37:36Speaker 1: She was a lot of fun. Let's see. I was
- 37:42Speaker 1: the only one that had a sports coat. I didn't
- 37:44Speaker 1: know what to wear. So I broke, I brought a
- 37:46Speaker 1: sports coat. Clay had just a button up, a short
- 37:48Speaker 1: sleeve shirt, but of course it's there. It's humid, but
- 37:51Speaker 1: we weren't, we were inside. I didn't know what to
- 37:54Speaker 1: bring to an event was kickoff with hard rock. Of
- 37:56Speaker 1: course I was overdressed with just a sports coat. Um, the, the,
- 38:00Speaker 1: the jet set up and the, It was a citation,
- 38:04Speaker 1: so I think about eight people could get in there, roughly,
- 38:06Speaker 1: if you wanted to. Clay just read the Wall Street Journal,
- 38:09Speaker 1: the New York Times, the entire time. The entire flight? Yeah,
- 38:12Speaker 1: he had the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday papers with him
- 38:14Speaker 1: when he walked up. That's all he walked in with.
- 38:18Speaker 2: You should have done one of those, you know, the
- 38:20Speaker 2: Titans would have done a good job with this, like
- 38:21Speaker 2: the video logs of the trip, and it's just like
- 38:24Speaker 2: a minute-long video of Clay reading the newspaper on the
- 38:27Speaker 2: flight the whole time, and you video and send it out, like,
- 38:29Speaker 2: here's our trip on a private jet.
- 38:31Speaker 1: So he was, he was, uh, we were chatting about
- 38:33Speaker 1: some other things as well, but like he mentioned like
- 38:36Speaker 1: how we were going to have someone do that at
- 38:38Speaker 1: the upcoming college game. Uh, read the paper. No, no, no. With, uh,
- 38:44Speaker 1: just following us around for social. Oh, okay. I got it.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Like the day in the life of clay. It's probably
- 38:50Speaker 1: for clay. It'll be one of us. It'll be one
- 38:53Speaker 1: of us. No, we're having a, he's going to have
- 38:55Speaker 1: somebody at either Ole Miss or at Tennessee with you guys. Gotcha. Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 1: In Oxford, I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Looking forward to that.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Looking forward to chronicling Clay reading newspapers from various days
- 39:08Speaker 2: on our trip.
- 39:09Speaker 1: It's going to be riveting stuff. Every page. There's no
- 39:14Speaker 1: page left unturned there. I've never been to Oxford, man.
- 39:18Speaker 1: This is going to be a blast.
- 39:20Speaker 2: It's a very cool place. Pretty unique college football environment.
- 39:24Speaker 2: And when you get into Grove, Hutton, now the temps
- 39:27Speaker 2: are going to be quite up there looking at the
- 39:28Speaker 2: forecast right now.
- 39:29Speaker 1: Is it 90? 90. Is it 95? It's bad. It's
- 39:32Speaker 1: not good. It's not fall-like. We need some fall-like.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Now's the time of year where it starts to turn
- 39:36Speaker 2: a little bit normally where we get some more fall-like conditions.
- 39:39Speaker 2: We're not having that this week here in the south
- 39:42Speaker 2: and not in Oxford. But it's going to be a
- 39:44Speaker 2: fun trip, and the Grove is a sight to behold.
- 39:47Speaker 2: I know we're probably going to spend some pregame time
- 39:50Speaker 2: before that game on Saturday night between LSU and Ole Miss.
- 39:52Speaker 2: I'm excited about it. We talked to Walker Jones about it.
- 39:55Speaker 2: He said it's going to be unlike anything that's ever
- 39:58Speaker 2: happened here. He said hosting that playoff game was unique
- 40:01Speaker 2: with the Christmas trees and the square and Oxford covered
- 40:04Speaker 2: in Christmas stuff and playing that home game.
- 40:06Speaker 1: But he said this is going to be on another.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Level in terms of excitement, people, hatred, all of that
- 40:14Speaker 2: stuff with Lane Kiffin coming back.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I can't wait.
- 40:17Speaker 2: What?
- 40:18Speaker 1: So, I mean, me either. I wonder which color uniform
- 40:22Speaker 1: they go with as well. You know, the helmet would
- 40:26Speaker 1: be light blue. But against Kiffin and what they do
- 40:31Speaker 1: against LSU, I would go with the light blue. I
- 40:32Speaker 1: hope they do.
- 40:33Speaker 2: They're going to go with the baby blues, I would guess.
- 40:35Speaker 2: But we'll get an announcement on uniforms soon. We know
- 40:38Speaker 2: that LSU will be in white, as they are all
- 40:40Speaker 2: the time. That's one thing we know.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Who we talked to last week, he didn't know either
- 40:45Speaker 1: for graphic purposes. But Yeah, so we talked Titans earlier.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Terrible loss. Is the season over? Yes. The death march begins.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Well, you can look at it one of two ways.
- 40:56Speaker 2: The death march or the march to Arch Manning. The
- 40:58Speaker 2: march to Arch has begun for the Titans because that's
- 41:02Speaker 2: where they could be headed with this team.
- 41:04Speaker 1: And I'm giving it about two more weeks on Cam Ward.
- 41:07Speaker 2: And if it doesn't improve dramatically, I think the Titans
- 41:10Speaker 2: need to start asking questions about salvaging what they can,
- 41:13Speaker 2: and giving Mitch Trubisky a shot.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Chad, this team will win in December. They will not
- 41:18Speaker 1: have the number one pick. Don't you worry. They're going
- 41:20Speaker 1: to be good in December. Remember, they're going to improve.
- 41:23Speaker 1: This is their floor. They will win their way out
- 41:26Speaker 1: of the arch. It'll be the Dolphins, the Browns, somebody.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Unless Archie's going to help push them to Tennessee instead.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Yes, and Taylor Zarger's going to sound like Denzel Washington
- 41:37Speaker 2: in Remember the Titans. As we get into December, he
- 41:40Speaker 2: describes how we started with the floor here, and now
- 41:42Speaker 2: we're in December and we've won two meaningless games, and
- 41:45Speaker 2: all it's done is knock us back a few notches
- 41:48Speaker 2: in the NFL draft, but this is why you come
- 41:50Speaker 2: to Nashville. This is why you're a Titans fan. I've
- 41:53Speaker 2: never been more down on the organization as a whole.
- 41:56Speaker 2: I think our audience can hear that in my voice,
- 41:59Speaker 2: but that was a train wreck of a game, and
- 42:02Speaker 2: it's indicative of a team that is headed for nowhere.
- 42:06Speaker 2: And has bad leadership. That's all I see at every turn.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I saw it with the Jared Stillman decision. I've seen
- 42:11Speaker 2: it multiple times. They are about the wrong things. And
- 42:15Speaker 2: that is not good. That is not a sign of
- 42:17Speaker 2: success in the National Football League.
- 42:19Speaker 1: It is micromanagement and overthinking the criticism when you think
- 42:24Speaker 1: this is the floor. Just you wait. Elevators go down
- 42:27Speaker 1: as well. As well as up. There could be a
- 42:31Speaker 1: floor one, and there could also be a 1B, 2B, 3B.
- 42:35Speaker 1: You could go down a few notches, and that's what's
- 42:38Speaker 1: happening here.
- 42:38Speaker 2: We did not even get into Steve Sarkis and Holly Rowe.
- 42:41Speaker 2: We're going to hit that hard tomorrow. That whole interaction
- 42:44Speaker 2: and that weirdness in that game, we'll hit that tomorrow.
- 42:47Speaker 1: And I've got to dive in on her reaction as well.
- 42:50Speaker 1: I think we've got a great view of what both
- 42:53Speaker 1: are like behind the scenes with that. Hardrock.bet.clay is where
- 42:57Speaker 1: you go to take advantage of the offer. $ 5 gets
- 43:00Speaker 1: you 100 in bonus bets. Chad Withrow, I'm Jonathan Hutton.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us.
