- 0:05Dan Schulz: And I'm Dan Schultz, and this is Redmond's twice weekly newsletter and podcast about all of the amazing things happening in Redmond for the next seven days.
- 0:16Dan Schulz: Let's start off with a big piece of news that's going to affect many of us.
- 0:20Dan Schulz: If Northeast 128th Way between 181st Avenue Northeast and Avondale Road Northeast is part of your regular route, there is a big change you need to know about this week.
- 0:32Dan Schulz: King County closed the road starting on Monday for a culvert replacement, and the closure is expected to last up to eight weeks.
- 0:42Dan Schulz: The road is closed to cars, pedestrians, and bicyclists, and the detour is more than five miles.
- 0:49Dan Schulz: Here's the thing, this isn't a quick closure, so change your route now and expect some extra time if you're headed in that direction
- 0:59Jennifer Davis: The Redmond Wine Walk is Friday, August 21st from 5:00 to 8:00 at Redmond Town Center.
- 1:05Jennifer Davis: You'll get 12 tasting tokens, a souvenir wine glass, and a chance to sample Washington wines from wineries around the state.
- 1:14Jennifer Davis: There will also be live music in the plaza, plus shops and winery reps to wander through.
- 1:20Jennifer Davis: General admission is $35 in advance or $45 day of if there are still tickets available.
- 1:28Jennifer Davis: If you're going, grab your ticket early and bring your ID.
- 1:31Jennifer Davis: This one's for the 21 and over crowd
- 1:37Dan Schulz: Needtobreathe brings the Long Surrender Tour to Marymoor Live Friday, August 21st.
- 1:43Dan Schulz: Doors open at 4:30 PM, and the show starts at 6:30 PM.
- 1:48Dan Schulz: Drew and Ellie Holcomb are also on the bill, so you've got a pretty full night of music.
- 1:53Dan Schulz: Marymoor also has food and drink vendors on site, which means you don't have to figure out dinner before you go.
- 1:59Dan Schulz: Check your ticket before leaving home, though.
- 2:01Dan Schulz: Give yourself time for parking and getting through the entrance
- 2:06Speaker 2: Now here's something most homeowners don't think about.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You could have a water leak right now and not even know it.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Underground leaks don't show up like a burst pipe.
- 2:17Speaker 2: There's no water on the floor.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Your water bill just quietly creeps up month after month until one day you're paying double and wondering what the heck happened.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Simply Leak Detection finds those leaks without tearing up your yard.
- 2:32Speaker 2: They use non-invasive tech to pinpoint exactly where the problem is.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Over 300 5-star reviews on Google.

- 3:04Speaker 2: That message brought to you by Simply Leak Detection.
- 3:09Dan Schulz: If you're into secondhand clothes, creative projects, and finding ways to reuse stuff instead of tossing it, the Thrift and Threads Festival is happening Sunday, August 24th from 2:30 to 5:30 at the Redmond Senior and Community Center.
- 3:23Dan Schulz: United Hub is bringing together secondhand clothing sellers, individual vendors, upcyclers, clothing repairers, crafters, artists, and environmental groups.
- 3:33Dan Schulz: You'll be able to shop twice-loved clothing and check out people turning reclaimed materials into something new.
- 3:41Dan Schulz: Bring a friend and plan to browse.
- 3:47Jennifer Davis: Want to learn a swing dance or just try something different on a Friday night?
- 3:52Jennifer Davis: Shuffle Club is Friday, August 21st at Gotta Dance.
- 3:56Jennifer Davis: The Balboa workshop runs from 7:30 to 9:00, followed by social dancing from 9:00 to 11:30.
- 4:03Jennifer Davis: The workshop and dance are $35 together, or you can do the workshop for $25 or dance only for $15.
- 4:13Jennifer Davis: You don't need to be a great dancer.
- 4:15Jennifer Davis: If you're new, take the workshop first and let somebody else worry about looking cool.
- 4:23Dan Schulz: Alison Krauss and Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas play Marymoor Live Saturday on August 22nd.
- 4:30Dan Schulz: Show starting at 6:00 PM.
- 4:32Dan Schulz: Theo Lawrence is also on the bill.
- 4:34Dan Schulz: If bluegrass, country, and ridiculously good musicians are more your thing than a giant pop show, this one's definitely worth a look.
- 4:43Dan Schulz: Marymoor has food, drinks, and multiple local vendors inside the venue, so you can make an evening out of it.
- 4:50Dan Schulz: Check your ticket for door information and give yourself some extra time for parking
- 4:58Jennifer Davis: If you've never tried line dancing, tonight is a pretty easy night to give it a shot.
- 5:03Jennifer Davis: Boots and Brews runs from 7:00 to 8:30 at Watts Brewing Company in Woodinville.
- 5:09Jennifer Davis: Wildflower Dance Company leads the class, and they're welcoming all ages and skill levels.
- 5:15Jennifer Davis: It's $10 out the door, and they teach new dances while reviewing favorites from earlier weeks.
- 5:21Jennifer Davis: So you don't need experience.
- 5:23Jennifer Davis: Just show up, grab a drink if you want one, and follow along
- 5:29Dan Schulz: Okay, bike people, this one is for you.
- 5:32Dan Schulz: The Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome is holding its annual bike swap this Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM.
- 5:39Dan Schulz: Bring your bike stuff to sell.
- 5:41Dan Schulz: Come see what everybody else is unloading.
- 5:43Dan Schulz: The Velodrome says it won't take a cut, and your gear doesn't have to be track specific.
- 5:49Dan Schulz: So if you've got an old bike, wheels, parts, or random gear taking up space in the garage, load it on up and come on over to see if somebody else needs it.
- 5:58Dan Schulz: Or just go and browse.
- 6:00Dan Schulz: You might find something useful
- 6:04Jennifer Davis: Okay, it's time for the Redmond History Minute, where we share an interesting piece of history, trivia, or tidbit about life in and around Redmond.
- 6:15Jennifer Davis: Today's question is: What nickname did Redmond's Chamber of Commerce put on a sign at the city's west entrance in
- 6:24Dan Schulz: I know this one.
- 6:25Dan Schulz: I know it.
- 6:26Jennifer Davis: It's kind of an easy one.
- 6:27Jennifer Davis: You might know this one.
- 6:29Jennifer Davis: Okay, is it A, bicycle capital of the world; B, bicycle city of Washington.
- 6:37Jennifer Davis: Go- hold on, Dan.
- 6:38Jennifer Davis: Let's read all the possibilities here.
- 6:41Jennifer Davis: C, bike town USA;
- 6:44Dan Schulz: You
- 6:44Jennifer Davis: D s- or D, cycling capital of the East Side.
- 6:48Dan Schulz: Oh, you are the terrible.
- 6:53Dan Schulz: All of the above.
- 6:54Dan Schulz: Is that an option?
- 6:57Dan Schulz: Bike Town USA.
- 6:58Dan Schulz: See, that's my final
- 7:01Jennifer Davis: Really?
- 7:02Dan Schulz: Yeah,
- 7:04Jennifer Davis: Okay, well, the answer was the obvious one.
- 7:07Jennifer Davis: It's A, bicycle capital of the world
- 7:11Dan Schulz: I didn't think of it.
- 7:12Dan Schulz: Oh, this sucks
- 7:14Jennifer Davis: In 1978, Redmond's Chamber of Commerce erected a sign at the city's west entrance proclaiming Redmond the bicycle capital of the world.
- 7:24Jennifer Davis: Redmond's cycling history goes back much further with Derby Days bike races becoming a long-running local tradition.
- 7:31Jennifer Davis: The city eventually became home to the Jerry Baker Memorial Velodrome at Marymoor Park, so the nickname has a pretty solid local history behind it
- 7:50Dan Schulz: All right, time for the Rumor Mill.
- 7:52Dan Schulz: We are hearing that a longtime Redmond restaurant space could be getting a completely different kind of tenant.
- 7:59Dan Schulz: The word is that a local group is looking to turning space into a neighborhood food hall with a new small kitchen, communal seating, and a rotating lineup of local food vendors.
- 8:12Dan Schulz: We have not confirmed the location yet, who's behind it, or whether the deal is actually happening.
- 8:17Dan Schulz: So here's the question: What Redmond restaurant space do you think we're even talking about for the food hall?
- 8:23Dan Schulz: If you've got a guess or have heard something, head on over to our Facebook page at facebook.com/bestofredmond and drop it in the Redmond Rumor Mill Guesses post.
- 8:37Dan Schulz: And while you are at our Facebook page, find the post called Your Picks and drop your vote in the comments.
- 8:43Dan Schulz: We wanna know who you think is the best playground in Redmond
- 8:46Jennifer Davis: If you've enjoyed this podcast, you're gonna love the companion newsletter.
- 8:50Jennifer Davis: Find it at bestofredmond.com and we'll see you in the next one
- 8:56Dan Schulz: Or maybe before then, walking around Redmond.
