- 3:00There we go now you can hear us bro we'll find out no that's soon the sound coming through,
- 3:07austin still what what what's going on i think look at the nostril hang on you
- 3:16might hear uh there it is now we got some do we have sound through i can see
- 3:22the stream oh i could see the bar going out.
- 3:26Translator, thumbs up. Thank you. Technical difficulties this evening. Morning.
- 3:32Way off. What day? Let me tell you something.
- 3:38Well, now that we're here, welcome to the Duckfellas Podcast,
- 3:42episode 19, with host Tyler, Cade, and Austin.
- 3:48It was a pretty fun week this past week. We had a new race banquet.
- 3:51That was a blast. Deleted about 75 too many beers. Yeah.
- 3:57No, there were some beers that got deleted from the world.
- 4:01We got to do our best. I got about 75 too many fucking jello shots. Yeah, you did.
- 4:08Jello shots were flown. Yeah. I'm sure. I drank Friday. I drank pretty hard Friday night, too.
- 4:14Yeah, you did. And I was a little hurting on Saturday.
- 4:18But I wasn't hurting yesterday which is weird because I drank way more beer
- 4:21Saturday night than I did Friday night.
- 4:24Yeah, for you I almost wonder if you were so quote unquote hurt from Friday
- 4:29that you just couldn't hurt yourself.
- 4:31But me, I have no idea because I didn't drink that many on Friday and then I
- 4:34drank shitload on Saturday. If that's possible I now know the secret.
- 4:39Dude, it happens to me every time. Yeah. I can get if I go on like a two day
- 4:42vendor there's no hangover the second time. You just drink the hangover of it.
- 4:46Hmm. then it's done one but that like two or three days after yeah no good no good mr george.
- 4:54No the banquet was a pretty good time we were all there a bunch of friends were
- 4:58there and seemed like a pretty good turnout yeah it was really good turnout
- 5:02honestly i think uh most of that was the weather that we had it wasn't too nice
- 5:06it wasn't two feet of snow,
- 5:09yeah yeah it wasn't like it was out today and yet where it was 70 degrees sunny
- 5:14and beautiful If we'd have had that, I feel like our turnout would have been less.
- 5:17People would have been like, yeah, fuck it. We'll just drill in the backyard. Yeah.
- 5:21So that definitely worked out. Good time. Either way, I bought an e-bike.
- 5:25You did. I spent way too much money.
- 5:27The max legal wattage for public lane. So we're ready. We're ready for that. Get a little cart.
- 5:34Pull us in that kind of. Be set. No, I just got to get one. Yeah.
- 5:38That's what it's awesome. Yeah, it's fucked.
- 5:41Well, I mean, I don't have much really to touch on other than that this past week.
- 5:46It was a pretty, I was off all week, but I couldn't go anywhere.
- 5:49It's my truck. Don't run.
- 5:53Sore subject. Yeah. Still fighting that. Yeah. Hopefully that's figured out
- 5:57tomorrow. Cratch out. Any time.
- 6:00Yeah. No, I had that on Friday night.
- 6:03So we're, we're pretty much over that. Yeah. You did. Indeed. Yeah.
- 6:09Yeah, Friday night was not. And nobody got the blunt of the crash out.
- 6:14It's just a crash out and I went and got drunk. Yes, indeed.
- 6:19The only waterfowl related somewhat news that we have, the last two days the
- 6:26snows have been fucking insane flying over here.
- 6:30Yeah, I think I think it was Friday. Yeah, Friday they were pretty thick,
- 6:35but like yesterday and today was just insane.
- 6:37Yeah, but the speckle belly's flying over Friday.
- 6:41I about went outside and started blasting.
- 6:43I couldn't hear myself think I was over it.
- 6:48Don't giggle chicken. Yeah, but no, it's gonna.
- 6:51I did see in the 10 day forecast, we get cold again here. I think next weekend,
- 6:56or like right after the weekend.
- 6:58Yeah, I know that like dive, it dives down all week.
- 7:01Yeah, like next Monday, it's like 35 for a high, I think.
- 7:05Yeah, and the of those are like in the team yeah yeah and i i looked at the
- 7:09forecast in north dakota and they're.
- 7:13Not even get they don't get the teens hardly and they get in
- 7:15the single digits and almost below zero but they don't
- 7:19get any snow up there it's on you push them back i mean
- 7:21right they're gonna blow through here pretty quick like yeah this
- 7:24week if you're not sunken you're really missing out or i don't know at least
- 7:29but this week i think we're gonna touch on well to kind of recap the meetings
- 7:34that we everybody had this past week kind of the input that we've heard and
- 7:38the input you've got that from the meeting. They've been okay.
- 7:43But they went they went good for what you can expect out of that type of meeting.
- 7:47Obviously, you're not going to see a whole lot of progress or a whole lot of
- 7:50anything come from it directly and right away.
- 7:53But you can get an idea of what you need to do or what needs to be done and
- 7:57what the DNRs will and the word could be on.
- 8:00Yeah, the other thing too is like that meeting is for every style of hunting.
- 8:05It's not just waterfowl, obviously. So there was a lot of deer talk brought
- 8:09up and some interesting takes on what we should do with that.
- 8:16One of them that cracked me up was they were talking about deer,
- 8:19I think, or maybe it was what they were talking about.
- 8:23But one guy just jumped up and was like, we need to get rid of the geese.
- 8:26Like there's way too many geese. And I'm like, I agree. Let's raise the limit.
- 8:30Let's annihilate them. Yeah. Yeah, that was the first, like,
- 8:33audience complaint was, and this dude was obviously not a waterfowl hunter.
- 8:38Not by any stretch of the imagination.
- 8:41It might have been on, like, the squirrels topic when they did the squirrels. I don't know.
- 8:47It was way early, and they were talking about nothing to do with waterfowl.
- 8:50And this guy was, let it rip.
- 8:52Well, that guy was the guy that asked if we could get a goose Caesar. Yeah.
- 8:57We already have it. We got one.
- 9:01Good news is the Berkeley should have wiped out quite a few this year.
- 9:07While we're discussing this topic, if anybody that attended the meeting that
- 9:11has anything they wanted to point out or something they didn't get across that
- 9:16they'd like to have introduced to somebody,
- 9:20just like a biologist or whatever, just leave a comment.
- 9:23And we can also mark it down and get to that.
- 9:27Or if maybe we talk to him, like I talked to, well, we all talked to Todd afterwards,
- 9:32and then emailed back and forth to Todd this past week.
- 9:36But what was the first one you know
- 9:39it was definitely an experience being there the people
- 9:43that are in the room unfortunately when i say anybody's uneducated or something
- 9:48like that but the the people that you had they had in the room and just not
- 9:55the people you need to like really make progress not probably like fair or like
- 9:59even reasonable stuff on a lot of
- 10:01things, which I get it. I mean, everybody's got their opinion.
- 10:04They want stuff to change, but you got to understand it from both sides of the spectrum.
- 10:09Yeah, it was odd. Some of the shit that people were saying, it's like, do you live here? Yeah.
- 10:15I mean, I get it. Like one topic was brought up like extending deer season.
- 10:22Yeah, the gun season. Yeah, because they like they didn't have time to make
- 10:25it. It's like, well, I mean, unfortunately, we could only allocate to kill so many deer.
- 10:29Yeah, and the shotgun seasons absolutely fucking wipe them out. Yeah.
- 10:34Most of the New York Tales are not shotgun season. Or muzzleloader season,
- 10:38whatever we got now. What is it, three different?
- 10:41Yeah, three, technically. Early muzzleloader, you have your shotgun season in
- 10:45the middle of all that, and then late on the later. Yeah.
- 10:49I can't get trapped with that silent character. Then you have bow seasons.
- 10:53That's what I would do if I was piggybacking the deer hunting,
- 10:56but likelihood of that happening, like 0.01%.
- 11:00I gotta be really bored and just so mad at the ducks. I can't even go out there
- 11:05and stay and looking at them anymore.
- 11:06And when that happens, you're just going to sleep. And then the next day you're
- 11:10like, yeah, fuck these ducks. Let's go kill them.
- 11:13Ask me how I know. I've seen it 24 hour reset.
- 11:18And then, you know, usually on that day I reset, I go scout and figure out what
- 11:22the hell's actually going on and then back to killing him yeah or trying to kill him at least,
- 11:27i mean after so after we talked to todd i felt pretty good
- 11:29just hearing him and like talking to him in person and kind of seeing that he
- 11:34wants to do stuff obviously he's just over the red rock area right and he's
- 11:39very limited on what he can do but he's not one of those guys that was just
- 11:44like no not we're not going to entertain that we're not going to look at that or anything like that.
- 11:49Like he was very open and receptive to a lot of the ideas we brought to him.
- 11:53And even in the email, you know, pretty open, pretty willing to discuss stuff
- 11:57and try and work on things.
- 11:59Yeah, and it wasn't just us too. I mean, he had a line of like 15 people waiting
- 12:03to talk to him when we were talking to him.
- 12:05I know, which I wish we would have had longer to talk to him.
- 12:07Yeah, but also at that point, I mean, everybody deserves a chance to speak,
- 12:12so we got our quick little talking points across and we let everybody else have at it.
- 12:18I know one of the main things that he wants to try and get done before he's
- 12:24quote-unquote retired or done doing this was these pumps.
- 12:28He wants to replace the pumps at Hartford and Swan.
- 12:33That's going to be a major feat to accomplish. I don't think it's out of the wrong possibilities.
- 12:38I mean, heck, they just spent probably millions of dollars on the studying and
- 12:41construction of this Coal Creek wetland project.
- 12:45So definitely not impossible but it's gonna
- 12:49be harder to do yeah for sure and i
- 12:52didn't realize the pumps were that old they're what 44 45
- 12:56yeah 44 that's yeah that's old yeah
- 13:00it's time for new yeah yeah i mean
- 13:02well that's what he said too is like it's just every year is
- 13:05a battle to get them up and going and that's some years even when
- 13:08we have ample water to pump into the places we can't
- 13:11get the pumps going the pumps are shit yeah or we don't have diesel and
- 13:14that's one thing that he brought up that they're i don't
- 13:16know they're willing to actually accept donations now on diesel fuel
- 13:19and see so as we get closer to hunting season maybe we can try and get something
- 13:24together to help fund funding pumping these areas because i mean that's all
- 13:30these areas are a big part of why we hold dogs yeah i mean they got the best
- 13:33moist soil that we have in the area more or less because the lake is so depending on rain.
- 13:38If we get a bunch of rain, the lake's trash. Yeah.
- 13:42We'll have the willows, but that'll be about it. Yeah.
- 13:46But, those pumps are very expensive. We're looking at 196K per pump. That's a lot. Yeah.
- 13:54I mean, I imagine Pookie has that somewhere in the same place.
- 13:58He can pick out and he can probably poke out. He can probably donate one.
- 14:01I'll lift up my mattress, see what I can do.
- 14:06That'd be great. That'd really help out if you really want to be generous like that.
- 14:11I'll step up just for you guys, though. They might even put a little sign of
- 14:15a Pokemon card. Oh, next to the pump? Now we're talking.
- 14:19No, I want... If I make this happen, I need, like, just a billboard face shot
- 14:25of me out there. We'll just call it Cookie's Pump. Yep.
- 14:30Cookie's Pump. Be perfect. That'll be good.
- 14:34But no, that's going to be... That's going to take organization from... Everybody.
- 14:39Yeah. I mean, you're going to need Delta to really step in and Ducks Limited.
- 14:43Yeah. because the DNR is going to put forth some money but they're not going
- 14:47to put they're not going to fund all of it I mean that's a lot of funds to dump
- 14:50into one simple thing I could realistically I could see you getting the DNR to,
- 14:57put up about 50k a year maybe yeah to replace like if you were able to get the
- 15:02other 150k you could buy a place to two months within two years yeah
- 15:06I don't think that's out of the realm of crazy but it's 150,000 stole I wanted to gather up,
- 15:14none of us here have that kind of money laying around to throw away so then
- 15:17you add the extra not extra fuel but the fuel cost on top of that too yeah yeah,
- 15:23and that's one thing you said too about getting new pumps it'll be way more
- 15:26efficient like the bus they have now they do terrible on fuel they just eat
- 15:30through it and they don't pump water for shit no,
- 15:34So that'll be cool. Hopefully we can make some headway through the coming year
- 15:38or two on that, at least getting one swapped out.
- 15:40I originally thought he wanted to do the spawn one first, but after the email,
- 15:45I guess he wants to do hard work first.
- 15:47Because that's the one he wants. But either way, I don't care.
- 15:50I mean, if we get the spawn, I don't care which one gets replaced.
- 15:53Let's just do one and move on to the next, see what we can do for the next one.
- 15:57Another thing that he brought up was drone spraying, trying to kill down some
- 16:01of the overgrowth that we have in some of these areas that make it not huntable.
- 16:05Like, I mean, there's some areas we have that generally will hold ducks and
- 16:09ducks will roost in it, but it provides no food value.
- 16:11Yeah. And you can't even hunt it because it's just so overgrown.
- 16:14So that'd be something to put in a while. Our students are coming back. Yeah.
- 16:19I don't think nobody else heard that, though. Yeah, I'll do her in the vial.
- 16:25Shit. What do you guys think about the drones for? I think that'd be pretty
- 16:28neat to, I think that'd be something easy to, like, get together.
- 16:31I definitely don't hate the idea. I mean, it's a pretty popular thing.
- 16:35There's a lot of different companies that do it now.
- 16:37Yeah, it seems to be getting more and more popular.
- 16:41It seems very efficient. And a lot of these smaller row crop fields,
- 16:46I've actually seen people sitting out on top of their enclosed trailer with
- 16:51the controller, and they pop that thing up in the air and then hit the grid,
- 16:55put the controller down, and that thing just cruises, does its thing.
- 16:59It's kind of nifty. Well, I mean, you take away the fuel cost completely.
- 17:02They just got a charger battery. I mean, that's... Yeah.
- 17:05That's a big battery in that thing. They're a big drum. Yeah,
- 17:08but they're still way cheaper than an airplane. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:14Don't know i think that'll be something that's actually easier than what people
- 17:17think to get accomplished and it's pretty
- 17:20inexpensive i mean you're more or less if you can get the time and labor like
- 17:23the the time donated and throw some money to the company for come out and doing
- 17:27it yeah and then i mean the dean already has the herbicide so one exciting thing
- 17:33that we found out was the core engineers finally completed their projects at
- 17:39the dam here at red rock so So they say.
- 17:44Even Todd said that he's like, yeah, they say they're dead. Yeah.
- 17:48But, I mean, there's nothing coming down in the pipeline. Right. I looked into it.
- 17:53So you're looking at like probably five years. By the time they study it,
- 17:57unless it's like a major repair that needs to happen right now.
- 18:00Yeah. You're five years away from the project. Yeah.
- 18:04That'll make a big difference on actually having water during the waterfall
- 18:07season because, what, this year they told us we just weren't getting water, was it? Yeah.
- 18:12And then we got water. Yeah, we do. But it's always been late.
- 18:17So one thing Todd said is he would include us. He submits the plan,
- 18:22he said in the summer, but he also said August.
- 18:25So hopefully he submits that plan here beginning of August for water elevation
- 18:31and timelines for what he would like the Corps to raise it to,
- 18:34obviously. Mother Nature, depending.
- 18:37But, I mean, maybe we have a fighting chance of having water for all of hunting
- 18:42season instead of half of it.
- 18:45And Red Rock doesn't have to supply water downstream either,
- 18:48so they can, if they wanted to, shut that thing completely off and get us whatever they want.
- 18:52Not quite. They gotta have the hydro down.
- 18:56But even that is a pretty low outflow. We pretty much gotta be in a drought like we have been.
- 19:03There's that. The light's ripping right now. We're at like, I think 15,000 inflow. Yeah.
- 19:10So. Yeah, the river up by Vandalia is full. Mm-hmm. That's what I heard. Full.
- 19:16I can't, I can't do it down. So I don't think it's the orbs.
- 19:19Dude, you get it? I do it right up there. Yeah. Yeah.
- 19:22I need somebody to meet me halfway to charge it, and then meet me halfway again
- 19:26to charge it, and then halfway again to charge it.
- 19:29Let's get you a solar panel charger for that thing. We'll just let you ride around.
- 19:33Dude, that would probably work out. pretty good. It was my grand old time.
- 19:36You can get some pretty big solar panels. Oh yeah. It's real.
- 19:39You'd even have like a little umbrella and just put it over top of your head.
- 19:43Now we're thinking, dude.
- 19:44Yeah. Keep you nice and cool. Yeah, I want to have the sun beating on me the
- 19:47whole way. Keep your battery charged up.
- 19:49Have that central AC going when I'm doing 20-pods. You know, I like,
- 19:55Another thing, he didn't discuss the Coal Creek project, but he didn't really
- 19:59go in depth on it. No. I didn't think.
- 20:01I mean, it was pretty limited information that he really gave out,
- 20:04and he didn't even announce it during the meeting. Like, it was a separate deal.
- 20:08Like, when we went and talked to him at the end. He did announce it in the meeting.
- 20:12But, I mean, he just... Well, he just said that we have an exciting area,
- 20:16and come see me if you want to know more about it.
- 20:18Oh, okay, dog. Yeah, cool. Couldn't talk to you anyways.
- 20:23So they're going to begin raising the water in that or they're going to close
- 20:28the gates to whatever elevation they want them at at the end of August.
- 20:33So you're not going to teal hunt that area ever. I mean, unless we get a bunch of rain right away.
- 20:40Unless we're way flooded out throughout the entire spring and summer.
- 20:45Yeah. Teal hunting that area is going to be a no-go, which is fine.
- 20:49But that should... I mean, yeah, a month and a half before our duck season opens
- 20:53at that point. It should be pretty easy to get water in there, I think, at that point.
- 20:57I mean, all you need is a couple of rains and let that creek start moving.
- 21:00Yeah, like you were saying when you went and looked at it, we hadn't had any
- 21:05measurable rain that would make that creek flow. And that was...
- 21:08Yeah, no. It was rolling pretty good. So that's going to be exciting.
- 21:13I am really looking forward to that area and what it can produce.
- 21:16I think it could be a great thing for the area. Mm-hmm.
- 21:20Is there anything else I've missed on that?
- 21:22We got turned down for our boat ramp lights. Yeah, we did.
- 21:26Yeah, that got shut down, but that was one of those things where you never know on that.
- 21:31I'm kind of surprised that Bennington got shut down in that boat ramp.
- 21:34Like, that one kind of surprised me.
- 21:36I can see why the boxcar got shut down, because it's more out in the open,
- 21:42and it's where all the ducks are.
- 21:45Now, Bennington's, like, right next to, and not really a town,
- 21:50but those subdivision houses, and it's off the river. There's nothing really
- 21:54to the north or to the south of it.
- 21:56And there's big heavy trees blocking it from swan.
- 21:59So, kind of surprised that one got shot down, but I know a part of it was vandalism.
- 22:04Yeah, people shooting lights out and stupid shit. Yeah, which,
- 22:08they'll never really control that. No.
- 22:11Honestly, I think that the vandalism played the biggest part in all of it.
- 22:15Like, they just don't want to have stuff that's put out there that they know
- 22:19is going to just ultimately get trashed.
- 22:21That's just such a shitty reason to not be able to put it out I say if you're
- 22:27worried about vandalism why would the state ever build or construct anything,
- 22:32why would we waste the money to do it and they're getting it for free so I mean
- 22:37I get it I didn't get the vandalism point but at the same time everything gets
- 22:42fucking vandalized it's public access,
- 22:45there's never going to be a stop in that unless you put a cop there at all times
- 22:48at every place that has something that's public.
- 22:54Austin says Noseghost. He'd be the first one to go.
- 22:59For sure. Oh, I'd definitely pick up some overtime out there. Yeah, that's right.
- 23:05But I mean, all in all, I think there's going to be to build that relationship
- 23:09with Todd a little bit and get that going. And I've been in talks with Orin here and there too.
- 23:14I think there's a lot of things that could come here in the next five years
- 23:17and still a long road to go.
- 23:21It's always an uphill battle. No matter if you get a seizure about to the top,
- 23:24something's going to knock you back down to the bottom of the hill or you keep climbing there.
- 23:28But we'll see what happens. Definitely look forward to that.
- 23:31And hopefully some good things come out of it. Like we, like you and I were
- 23:35talking about this weekend though, like as long as we can continue to make progress,
- 23:39like we're doing this for our kids, not for us.
- 23:43Like to continue to make the sport better.
- 23:46And like, that's why we like it. So I mean, if you don't, then eventually it's going to go away. Right.
- 23:53Yeah. You think Tyler doesn't have kids? He already has. He just don't know him.
- 24:00You get a DNA test and the male is thrown away. Good thing I haven't checked
- 24:04my mail all year, so we're good on that.
- 24:08Mark's safe for now. Yeah. I don't think that about does it,
- 24:12though, for the spring stuff. I mean, we didn't have a lot to talk about at ours.
- 24:15I mean, we did it all kind of after the meeting because, if I'm being honest,
- 24:19data and the info they put out on the waterfowl was even less than what they
- 24:23talked about the squirrels.
- 24:24Yeah, it didn't really lead into a whole lot of conversation.
- 24:27I didn't feel like there wasn't really much that they talked about that you
- 24:31could kind of stem off of and be like, hey, a lot of talking about this.
- 24:35I mean, they didn't give any more data. They gave less data on waterfowl than they did squirrels.
- 24:41Like, that kind of surprised me. I mean, there's a lot of people that squirrel hunt.
- 24:45Dude, there was a shitload of squirrels that got shot. I mean, that surprised me.
- 24:51What was it? Do you guys remember, like, the record? I thought it was,
- 24:55like, 1.2 or 1.4 million squirrels.
- 25:00It could have been that, dude. That might have been the number like 20 years ago, too.
- 25:05And then they've shown the decrease. I just remember we were sitting there and
- 25:10we weren't paying a whole lot of attention and that number dropped and we all
- 25:13looked at each other and said, what the fuck?
- 25:16Who was that pissed off at the squirrels out there?
- 25:19But if you think about it, every time we duck hunt, you hear somebody out there
- 25:22shooting a little 20s deer at squirrels all the time. No, I mean, that's...
- 25:27My dad loves it when they walk right under his tree stand too.
- 25:30It's his favorite thing in the world. Yeah. A lot of the deer hunters love squirrel hunters.
- 25:35Those guys just don't give a shit. Prank him out.
- 25:39But yeah, squirrel hunting, epic in Iowa, evidently.
- 25:43Hitting Jim. Yeah. We've not found any pastime. Destination state for squirrel hunters worldwide.
- 25:50Yeah. People come here to deer hunt, never again. Yeah. Squirrel only.
- 25:55Yeah. Never know. Start raising the fees for our make our own little separate squirrel tag.
- 26:01We're with the DNR now. I think we'll go ahead and move in to talking a little
- 26:07bit about some tips and strategies to make your scouting for waterfowl and your
- 26:13waterfowl hunts in general just better.
- 26:15What do some of the people out here that are listening do and then what we kind
- 26:19of generally try to do that helps us sometimes.
- 26:23There's a time where I can walk to a field once in a while and be like,
- 26:26there's no point in hunting. There's nowhere to hunt.
- 26:30I just, you pick a semi, we hunt them.
- 26:34That thing sounds like a weed eater. I'm pretty sure it is. Yeah, that's where to God.
- 26:39No, he rolled by earlier and he's on, he's on like a big, like Debo bicycle
- 26:44from Friday. Debo's bike. Yeah.
- 26:47He's on one of those and it's got a freaking weed microphone.
- 26:52It's awesome. You can definitely tell the weather's nice. Yeah.
- 26:57He's probably super proud of it too. The Rugrats are out. Yeah.
- 27:01He had their eyes in the town. It was a grown-ass man too. That's the problem.
- 27:07Like, if I was a kid that rolled by on that thing, I'd be like,
- 27:09yeah, dude, that's pretty sick. Yeah. Grown at me.
- 27:12So, we'll just go around the three of us here. We'll start with you, Austin.
- 27:16If you're going to go out scouting, what are the key three things that you make
- 27:21sure you have or have access to when scouting?
- 27:27Binoculars, snacks, and one of you guys to talk to on the phone.
- 27:33In all seriousness, I will say I think,
- 27:37one of the things that's helped me the most is my
- 27:41general knowledge about like how waterfowl
- 27:45move and how they work like makes scouting
- 27:48a lot easier when you have that general knowledge to kind
- 27:52of almost try to beat them to the spot like well consistently they work here
- 27:57this time of the year during these weather patterns so i'm going to check here
- 28:02first because this is where i normally see them so you you start from the top
- 28:07and then you can work your way down from there i mean i know they're obviously,
- 28:12unpredictable a lot as well too but when you
- 28:15kind of have that general knowledge to figure that out and
- 28:18eliminate some of those just right off the beginning it just makes life easier
- 28:23absolutely i can agree with that a lot of that's just putting miles on too i
- 28:28feel like like you're not if you don't know the area it's gonna be hard to scout
- 28:31start making a full ticket yes yes i mean yeah no,
- 28:36100%, I could only echo that, like.
- 28:39To be successful in it you have to put the miles on you
- 28:43gotta be willing to spend the money and do the
- 28:45work if you want to up your chances of having consistently better
- 28:49hunts right well i mean just think about it like before goose wars we had like
- 28:54four different vehicles out driving around and like in all four different counties
- 28:59like looking and one boat yeah and looking i mean just constantly watching birds, like,
- 29:08seeing what we thought was going to give us the best odds to have a good hunt that morning.
- 29:13Looking back at Goose Wars, though, seeing as we only killed one band. One band? Yes.
- 29:19I kind of wish we had hunted that spot we found on the boat.
- 29:21Dude, I know. I mean, we only hunted, we hunted where we did because it gave
- 29:25us the best chance to kill bands. Yeah.
- 29:27But that spot we found, or you found at the boat, would have been probably pretty money.
- 29:32Because the chance to kill and ban And they're way, way less than we're at.
- 29:36I was there. What do you mean?
- 29:38What do you mean? He was a band band that was here. Was that?
- 29:42Well, what do you mean? Didn't work out for us.
- 29:44We shot one. Woo. What?
- 29:49Damn, dude. I don't know.
- 29:51Well, what are your three things, Cade? Obviously, you can't say snacks.
- 29:56Austin already said that.
- 29:57I mean, no, you're going to snack. I'm the snack king. Everybody knows this.
- 30:00Obviously, binos are key. Absolutely.
- 30:04I'm trying to think of something that's not Onyx, because Onyx is obviously huge.
- 30:09But piggybacking on Onyx, you can find all the birds you want,
- 30:12but if you can't get in contact with a landowner, you're just bird watching.
- 30:17I would say having your phone or a black map or for either on eggs or a plat
- 30:22nap let's be able to be yeah on that topic and even that like,
- 30:26there's been times that you there's like four or
- 30:29five different ways they're going when they're feeding geese especially they
- 30:33don't typically all go to the same field so like when i'm driving by i'll mark
- 30:37like there's four fields there i'll just put a mark right in the middle and
- 30:41i'll come back the next day if we're not hunting it the next day or trying to
- 30:45hunt the next day come back and,
- 30:47figure out which exact field they're in. But then I have the general idea where they're going.
- 30:51Right. I can narrow it down from there.
- 30:55Definitely full tank of fuel. Yeah. No, I feel like that's pretty, pretty.
- 30:59You know, I'm already doing whatever you're going, like, starting from scratch.
- 31:03Yeah. Even when you think you know what they're doing, you'll have quarter tank of fuel.
- 31:08And the next thing you know, you're like, holy shit, I'm clear on the other
- 31:11side of the county. I think I can't get back home. Yeah.
- 31:14They always like to throw a wrench in the planes every time. Yeah, the dick is.
- 31:18What about you? What are your three? I feel like it's hard to have three on top of.
- 31:24So one thing you guys just say i mean i'll probably say
- 31:27bino's because i mean bino's is just a yeah that's like the mandatory
- 31:30thing yeah but i always make sure i either
- 31:32have my waiters and or mucks with me so that
- 31:35way if i can see roughly where they're going but
- 31:39i mean that's pretty far away and say you're say you're scouting public
- 31:41ground i'll make sure i have those with me so i can walk
- 31:45my fat ass out there and see where they're actually at see that
- 31:48was something i didn't even think about because like when we talked about scouting
- 31:51like my mind my mind went straight to like scout a field right in the center
- 31:55field you don't need that shit but no i mean just scouting out of the boat yeah
- 31:57you you might not even just a boat like if you're driving on a scout in the
- 32:01marsh and it's just a big area like the coal creek area here yeah when you go to scout that,
- 32:07you're gonna want to make sure you have your waders with you to scout that and
- 32:10actually do it properly yeah i mean it could be a game changer of being on the
- 32:15x or 50 yards off the x and then and you gotta watch the ducks go in over there all day.
- 32:20Because somebody, I mean, if there's two parties, and you guys are hunting,
- 32:24you can't hunt that spot exactly because you set up in the wrong spot,
- 32:27you're toast. If they're at 50, but I can't.
- 32:32Apparently you do too.
- 32:36It's gonna it's gonna take some work to scout cool creek yeah sure I mean you're
- 32:41gonna you're gonna have to put in some time some hours walking,
- 32:45yeah that's not gonna be a just drive down there and scout it real quick kind
- 32:48of thing that's gonna be and you need a couple hours yeah it's an afternoon
- 32:51kind of thing oh yeah another thing that I bring with me a lot.
- 32:56Which I mean I'd say I need it like 2% of the time but if you're scouting an
- 33:00area where you can see so there's woods or whatever in between you and you don't
- 33:04want to get too close because you know that they're going to be in there and
- 33:06you can't really see anything going down, I call it. Yeah.
- 33:10I'll let out a hen squeal or just let out a couple clucks, whatever,
- 33:14and a lot of times them birds will be like, huh?
- 33:17Who are you? And they'll start responding. And it's helped me out a few times
- 33:21down the road where I don't know if there's ducks in there or not,
- 33:24so I don't want to spook them.
- 33:25And if I, you know, pick my calls out and do whatever duck call or goose call
- 33:31and nothing makes a peep, then I'll start.
- 33:34Creeping in on them but if i if i hear that right away then i
- 33:37know i either gotta be really stealthy trying to get close to see what is there
- 33:40or just know they're there get out of there yeah come back and hunt the next
- 33:45day and that was how i was like scouting that spot for goose forest like i knew
- 33:50there was a shit pile in there but i could not figure out for the life of me how many so i just,
- 33:56weaseled my way up on the bank i made sure that i was not making a fucking pig
- 34:00walking through there I mean it's a lot like deer hunting when you're scouting waterfowl. Yeah.
- 34:05You gotta be as quiet as you can getting to them because if you spook them it's
- 34:09gonna make them nervous for the next 24 hours. Yeah.
- 34:12I mean those birds can be a little bit more on alert especially if you bump
- 34:15them out of there now if you just get close and they start they start doing
- 34:18their clucking all over the place.
- 34:20Yeah. It's just gonna make them a little more leery but if you have to spook
- 34:24them out of there could ruin the hunt for the next day.
- 34:27For sure like we've watched it a million times they'll go right back to the
- 34:30same spot but if they find one thing that's out of place, sir,
- 34:34they're giving you the bird. Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:38Anything pop up in your head while we're running through this? Pokemon?
- 34:43I feel like a lot, last year especially, like.
- 34:47We would be in a general location all near each other if we found a decent concentration
- 34:55of birds, and then it would be like almost like setting your watch to it,
- 35:00and then you see the first group of birds get up.
- 35:03And then we're just bouncing every which
- 35:06direction from there like just marking fields
- 35:09left and right like trying to i mean really
- 35:13trying to find that x so i don't
- 35:15know i mean we put in a lot of time in our
- 35:19va polls and i i don't know i like it
- 35:21it's fun the only time that sucks is when you're in
- 35:24shitty self-home reception so then you're like you're like
- 35:27trying to get a hold of each other to like let them know what
- 35:30you're seeing but you can't so like then
- 35:33when you meet back up we're all like obviously giving
- 35:37each other shit like dude why didn't you tell like
- 35:39i tried yeah like when 30 snapchat
- 35:43videos go through it one day right so that's
- 35:47like one thing too is to make it easier going
- 35:50down the road like if you're gonna hunt that area even if you're traveling we're
- 35:53not sponsored by them but hunt prefab has pretty
- 35:57good things where you can enter into it and you can leave
- 35:59notes for like the wind and whether it's
- 36:03sunny or cloudy temperatures that stuff i i don't have it but i'll do like my
- 36:08own notes i'd have through the years and like north dakota i have the whole
- 36:13state book of all the counties and flats and their plot books and everything
- 36:17like that but i used to like circle it like a certain spot i'd see ducks and i'd label it like.
- 36:23Time of year it was, weather, that stuff. Because I mean, the dogs are going
- 36:27to do the same things through the years over and over.
- 36:30It'll vary a little bit, just depending on how hard the wind blew from that
- 36:33direction there, the migration, whether they shift a little farther east or west.
- 36:38But we see it every year with geese. They hit the same fields over and over.
- 36:44Yeah. I mean, and it could be a heavily hunted field, but they're still going
- 36:47to go right back to it the next year and forget all about it.
- 36:50It's like they forget they lost 9,000 hobbies in there.
- 36:54We lost our whole family over there that's like my favorite game that we play
- 36:59it's like guess where I saw geese today and then you guys just list like 10
- 37:03different fields and I'm like yes,
- 37:06every single one of them all of them but that's too,
- 37:10for trafficking geese I would say if they're
- 37:13flying around and if you watch their tendencies when they fly you can pick out
- 37:18if you can traffic that bird or if it's going to that destination despite body
- 37:22language when it's flying a lot of that too goes into the time thing too because
- 37:26i mean you put enough time and you'll see the birds in different fields they
- 37:30don't hit the same exact field every day,
- 37:32but you can kind of pinpoint like they'll hit a field three fields short of
- 37:37their normal one for one day and then they fly that same flight line every day
- 37:41but they go to the their normal field like if you can get on that field that
- 37:46they were in for one day you can traffic pretty easy. Yeah.
- 37:49I feel like trafficking ducks in a field is extremely difficult.
- 37:53Yeah. I've never had a whole lot of luck.
- 37:56Underneath the flight line of the ducks and we're being next to where they are
- 37:59feeding that and trafficking them like it could just be my bad luck because
- 38:04I have tremendously terrible luck but I've never had luck doing that period same,
- 38:10I don't know of many guys that do other than the big outfitters that hunt the
- 38:15same spots every day on their lease ground where they either just have it's
- 38:19a regular field or a flooded field whether it's standing corn double corn or
- 38:23being doing that like it's,
- 38:25it's definitely not an easy thing to do and you need an aftertomical amount
- 38:28of decoys like obviously when you're scouting I would say take in the thought
- 38:33of what your equipment is that you have and if you can even,
- 38:36I guess even to work your time yeah because the equipment's gonna play a big
- 38:39part in it too yeah I mean you can,
- 38:42throw calling out the window like you don't even have to call these birds if
- 38:45you're gonna hunt their eggs like if you're hunting where they want to be you
- 38:49throw out a dozen decoys sometimes and just go out there and lay and hide as
- 38:53long as you get your hide really good you don't need to call yeah only reason
- 38:56you use the calls to pinpoint i'm like put them where you want them yep,
- 39:01other than that i mean i think we just use our calls so much to make ourselves feel better,
- 39:07like being more productive i get tired of blowing those things god damn yeah
- 39:12i know especially on ducks whenever it's out there passing out and whatever.
- 39:19Or the days it's just me and you and we have like five guys and entire trailer
- 39:26throughout we're like yeah oh we got pretty efficient though so not the trailer
- 39:30yeah like that goes pretty good but i'm saying like if we have that many decoys
- 39:35out we're trying to cover up that many people,
- 39:37we are blowing our fucking ones out no i'm definitely ripped the call way too many times,
- 39:44I would say, like when you're scouting too, it's like, if you can figure out
- 39:46where the birds are roosting compared to, let's just say they're,
- 39:50you want to hunt water or you're hunting public land and they're,
- 39:53you're, they're where they roost at and where they feed at.
- 39:56If you can get somewhere in the middle there, you have a good chance that on
- 39:59their way back, like obviously a goose or a duck in the morning,
- 40:02go out to feed, generally is going to go feed first and then come mill around.
- 40:06Yep. They don't really, in my experience, they don't mill around as much in
- 40:10the first flight as they do 9 to 11.
- 40:15Like 9 to 11, that means my favorite time for mallards.
- 40:18I always call them the 10 o'clock mallards.
- 40:22There's been a lot of days where I've had pretty much no ducks other than a
- 40:25couple of teal or gadwalls, whatever.
- 40:28And then about 10 to 11 o'clock, here they come. And it's game over.
- 40:33Yeah. I mean obviously obviously not everybody can go out there and hunt for
- 40:36eight hours straight or all day long but,
- 40:40stick that like if you're having a slow day like stick that out as long as you
- 40:44can at least stick it out until noon I would say I mean there's days where we
- 40:48go out there we know we can't hunt past 10 o'clock but that's just part of it
- 40:52and those days oddly enough seem to be the better morning shoots or whatever
- 40:56we should just always say that we can only hunt until 10 o'clock,
- 41:00I'm leaving I'm picking up at 930,
- 41:0310 30 we're still there trying to
- 41:06get those dogs yeah you just you just see us all stand up all right we're gonna
- 41:11do it now we're done i do recall we've unloaded our guns a few times i come
- 41:16above the blind try and see if they come in because every time you unload a
- 41:20gun they come out of nowhere it's weird or it's like they know that you have
- 41:24one shell in your gun and they're like, yeah,
- 41:27bring him all the 30 in this bitch. Yeah.
- 41:32But scouting, if you put the time and effort into it and you,
- 41:35I mean, obviously you're not going to be,
- 41:37at it right away. It's going to take time to learn the tendencies of the birds
- 41:40for your areas because every area is different.
- 41:44A mallard's a mallard, but at the end of the day they don't do the same things in every area.
- 41:49You might think something that looks amazing, right? I'm taking a chance with
- 41:52just hunting the areas, which is how you also learn, is by taking a chance saying,
- 41:56hey, I don't know if we're going to kill anything here, but we're going to go
- 41:58hunting, so I want to try it out. Yep.
- 42:01And that's caused me to see how the birds are flying in that area.
- 42:04It's like, oh, you know we go a quarter mile that way we're gonna be on them
- 42:07that's where they want to be and then sometimes you can't scout areas you just
- 42:11gotta go try it yeah a lot of success in the past yeah.
- 42:18What else we got there I would say just be persistent yeah that's the biggest thing,
- 42:24scouting is the hardest part of all that I feel like to do it right and like
- 42:29you were saying earlier you might find a field that they're in but the cover's absolutely dog shit.
- 42:36Nine times out of ten, people are still going to go hunt it.
- 42:40Yeah, and that just educates bird. It makes hunting for everybody in the area
- 42:43where it's like, sometimes if they're in that chisel plot field and you just
- 42:48don't, there's just no way to hide in it.
- 42:50I mean, if you can go on a fence row, maybe, where you can hide your stuff a
- 42:54little bit but every time you run out in the middle of nothing and stick out
- 42:56like a sword dick, it educates them birds every time.
- 43:00Yeah, just be more like us and curse at them when you drive by them. Yeah, it's fine.
- 43:05I flip birds off every day. Every day. Literally.
- 43:08Every single day. Yep. Every time I see a mob of them fly over my house.
- 43:12Especially this time of year. Yeah.
- 43:15I can see Austin out there standing on the back porch just... Double bird.
- 43:22As they're just giggling as they fly by. Ha ha. Ha ha. Ha ha.
- 43:29But it's like, I mean, I've only lived in this area for like eight, nine years now.
- 43:33And I came to learn it pretty quick. I mean, the first year I lived here was the Great Flood.
- 43:39So didn't have any go up of that year because that just doesn't happen.
- 43:43But every 15, 20, 30 years, pretty rare thing. Yeah.
- 43:48But and then the next four years after that, there was not a single tree out there.
- 43:54You just hunt in grass that gets knocked down as soon as they put water on it so it just blasts I mean,
- 44:02being persistent though I feel like a lot of people think like oh you've been
- 44:08hunting here forever no I haven't I mean realistically I've been hunting this
- 44:12area for like 5 years right but your 5 years of hunting is like most people's
- 44:1710 or 15 no that's most people's life yeah,
- 44:21But what I'm saying is It takes time to learn Once you understand the concept
- 44:27Of how birds work and think Which I still don't understand it completely Nobody
- 44:31ever does, nobody ever will Because they're a bird and they got a brain,
- 44:35This freaking big And they sell out the smartest every day.
- 44:38But once you kind of figure out the general concept It's going to lead to a
- 44:42lot more success And the only way to get that general concept Is by trying things,
- 44:45driving around And putting the time and effort into scouting like
- 44:48scouting is pretty boring yeah it's honestly
- 44:51boring unless you're with like two or three guys and you're cruising around
- 44:54having a good time joking around which we don't really gotta do
- 44:57that often because i'm either out of town or you're
- 45:00working you're working and or
- 45:04we are totally fucked and we all have to
- 45:07go scout yeah yeah yeah sometimes we just got
- 45:09spread out and i have no idea where the birds are what's going on like damn
- 45:13they're really kicking our ass this week yeah but it leads to so much more success
- 45:18when you have a ton yeah it only takes that one day after where you get on them
- 45:23and you think yep all right you're right it was worth it yeah yeah.
- 45:28We've had a lot of just, we've had just a lot of great times just from being patient.
- 45:33Oh yeah. Yeah. Being persistent and scouting. And look at North Dakota.
- 45:36I mean, how many, how many miles I put on my truck that week?
- 45:42I can't even remember because we did it like total miles, like from here,
- 45:47the miles up there and the miles back.
- 45:49And then we subtracted that and did, and did just the scouting miles.
- 45:53And it was, it was nuts.
- 45:55It happened. I want to say we were like 5,000 miles, like total, 5,500.
- 46:01And I think we were around like 1,500 or 3,000 just in like we know we're scouting miles.
- 46:06Yeah. Holy shit. I mean, I work in a vehicle all the time.
- 46:11And at the end of that week, I was like, dude, I don't even want to look at
- 46:14the inside of a vehicle for a week.
- 46:17Just leave me alone. Yeah, it was. That was like, it was a grind for sure.
- 46:22I mean, we got on them a couple of good days, though. I, I had a really good
- 46:26time my first out of state hunt.
- 46:28So it was just a cool experience to get up there and see how different birds
- 46:33work in a different area. I mean, it.
- 46:36All those miles we didn't find the ducks till the last day we were
- 46:39there but we couldn't do a mission i know but
- 46:41when we found them so many yeah no
- 46:45they were definitely tornadoes definitely very congregated and that's one thing
- 46:49too when it comes to scouting this you're going to be scouting different areas
- 46:52early season to late season and not just by weather but it could be the same
- 46:57weather for two weeks and the birds you had in one area are just gone because of pressure,
- 47:02pressure plays a huge part in it too oh absolutely,
- 47:06especially out here when you got 30 jackasses running around in bows facing
- 47:10the same 5,000 ducks yeah,
- 47:12that's a huge part I mean you can see a difference on when I go hunting on Monday
- 47:17morning compared to when I'm hunting Friday morning it could be the same ducks
- 47:20but they're completely different ducks yeah you just watch them rap in the middle
- 47:23of the lake at that point yeah.
- 47:26I mean by Friday they're usually willing to play again and do do what you want
- 47:30to do to a point I mean, they're still getting stale, but back to Monday again,
- 47:35they're back to what they were the previous Monday.
- 47:38I mean, it's amazing what having
- 47:41multiple parties out there chasing around does. Oh, yeah. Absolutely.
- 47:46What else do you guys got to add? Anything? I know you got something to hear.
- 47:50Think of deep. I'm not really. There's not much going on in this head.
- 47:58Yeah, I would say, I mean, we've said it a couple times already,
- 48:01But scouting is pretty boring But the work Yeah it's work It's a boring ass job,
- 48:11you do it the reward eventually will come
- 48:14i mean the more effort you put into it the more
- 48:17you're going to get out of it yeah the no scout just random they
- 48:21don't still work for kill hunting no like one percent i don't i honestly don't
- 48:26know how people do that like me either that gives me so much anxiety just to
- 48:31think about like just throwing that whole trailer like completely I'm not even
- 48:36seeing a bird. Not seeing a bird.
- 48:38I'd just be so sad sitting in my layout.
- 48:41Oh, I hate it here. Yeah. Yeah.
- 48:45No, it has. I mean, even when you scout, you can scout all week and those birds
- 48:51will just go the opposite direction.
- 48:53And it could be the same weather. And you're just like, oh, we're going to go.
- 48:56We're going to scout this field for five days.
- 48:58Saturday morning comes along and the geese get up and go west instead of east.
- 49:02I'm in danger. Yeah. That's another thing that plays in the scouting too is the weather.
- 49:06I mean, if you have a cloudy day, the geese are obviously going to fly earlier
- 49:10in the evening. And then if you go to hunt it the next day and it's sunny,
- 49:13you're probably going to get fucked. Yeah.
- 49:16Or you will see all of them in the decoys five minutes after.
- 49:19Yeah. Or the only chance you get might be in the last minute. Yes. Yes.
- 49:24If you're hunting the evening, I mean, it's always best to stick it out till
- 49:28that last. Yes. Oh, absolutely.
- 49:30I mean, if you go out there and you're like, oh, we're going to hunt from three
- 49:32to five. No, you're not. Yeah.
- 49:34You're going to hunt from three till it's over. Yeah. Two times over.
- 49:38You might not start killing your ducks till five minutes or geese,
- 49:41five minutes before the end of sugar.
- 49:43And that, I don't know how many times it happened in the past,
- 49:45but more than I can count on one hand or two hands probably of when I've killed
- 49:50our limits within the last like 15, 20 minutes. Right.
- 49:54And at that point, just let the birds lie. Like, finish off the crippled ones. Leave the rest light.
- 50:01Go get them whenever you're done shooting. I mean, as long as they're dead and
- 50:04they're not running around like chickens out there, you'll be all right.
- 50:08I also don't know how many times I could say that they have,
- 50:12like, beaten us and come, like, a minute after.
- 50:16Obviously, still plenty light. We can see them. But we just watch mobs and mobs
- 50:20of birds just standing right at our feet.
- 50:22I mean, it's cool. like it's obviously always cool
- 50:25to see birds do what you want to do you just wish that
- 50:28they'd fucking do it a minute earlier yeah that's so
- 50:32demoralizing when that happens yes it is tell you what i
- 50:35found like you not want to go the next day but still like oh
- 50:38maybe they'll fly five minutes early we're so optimistic yeah and that's why
- 50:46we are fucking idiots yeah whatever so we're smart you know that's all right
- 50:50i have a never claimed that yeah i know better weather is a huge thing though i mean like yeah,
- 50:56not just like sunny and cloudy but like i mean obviously if you rain days we
- 51:02say we're not gonna hunt in rain but i've had some of my best duck hunting days
- 51:07when it's i've absolutely mopped them before when it's a thunderstorm out there
- 51:12and i definitely should not be out there yeah,
- 51:14and nobody believes you until you like don't look picture which i don't usually
- 51:17show pictures or post pictures but it's a big thing like yeah i don't know why
- 51:23but thunderstorms are crazy especially for teal season.
- 51:26Teal move because of thunderstorms.
- 51:29They will get up out of wherever they're at, North Dakota, South Dakota, just say, peace.
- 51:35One crack of thunder, they're gone.
- 51:38Time to go a thousand miles out immediately.
- 51:44But snowstorms too. I mean, obviously when it snows or you got a big front coming
- 51:47in, your birds that you've been watching are going to do the exact opposite of what they did.
- 51:52For sure and even like you
- 51:56guys have both witnessed it that altoona field anytime it's
- 52:00not raining or snowing it's pretty
- 52:03slow yeah first drop falls out
- 52:06of the sky shit's getting western and that always seems to be when you have
- 52:09steel birds whenever you get some actual actual hunting weather not just we
- 52:15were sunny skies yeah even cloudy day that field's just kind of like yeah yeah
- 52:20but you're hunting i mean they're so close to the city that yeah it's,
- 52:24gotta be uh major terrible events for them birds like oh we gotta go you gotta
- 52:28go nah like the grass isn't gonna cut it today you're hunting people's pets,
- 52:35carrying karen and the cul-de-sac hits like some people on the desoyne metro
- 52:41that just run them over no shit dude what is going on this second one this weekend
- 52:46yeah what yeah a young a young yeah did like 19 years old i did not hear that
- 52:51yeah oh my god wow how many did he get a.
- 52:56I didn't see the actual report. I just heard about it through somebody else.
- 53:00I saw the news article on it, but I cannot remember.
- 53:04That's awesome. They've got way more nuts than I do.
- 53:07Dude, same. Because I've thought about it. I go into St. Steel in Des Moines there.
- 53:11There's always a ton of geese on that road reading up to this steel place.
- 53:17And I'm like, oh, I just want to floor it. They're all banded.
- 53:21Every time I'll stop at home camp, or sometimes I'll get out and chew them out
- 53:25of the way. I want to fight. It's like, your dog, you're not at my wedding. Yeah.
- 53:29Let me go through and then you fight. Yeah. I got shit to do.
- 53:33It's kind of fun to record them whenever you pull up on them in there.
- 53:35Two geese are fighting each other. Oh, yeah. It's always entertaining.
- 53:39Oh, it's my practice. Yeah.
- 53:42It's my piece of bread. Yeah. But if there's one thing that you take from this
- 53:48episode, it's, you know, don't give up.
- 53:51Be persistent and don't be afraid to
- 53:54go scout somewhere that you may not have ever seen it up before and
- 53:57walk in like go put and put
- 54:00in the miles on your leg graffitis or a bicycle
- 54:03or your truck generally yeah see what
- 54:06you can find I mean you're not gonna find on the couch well right now
- 54:09you can yeah yeah you clear everywhere I definitely
- 54:13have looked on my front windows from my couch and seen a lot
- 54:16of birds flying over my house when she was like that
- 54:18during the fall like that would makes life so
- 54:22much easier it is it just happens in the
- 54:25dark yeah and then i get shot up for one day and they say fuck
- 54:28you we're going to the next one well i mean all
- 54:32birds are going north right now at one time rather than the fall
- 54:35i mean yeah you're only going to have waves at a time generally unless it's
- 54:38just a major snowstorm which does happen once in great while 30 years yeah i
- 54:45wish it had been locked i can't remember the year but it was probably like seven
- 54:50eight years ago somewhere in there we were supposed I was supposed to go to
- 54:52North Dakota on a hunting trip for Halloween week.
- 54:55And that's generally been my time for my go up there. Mm-hmm.
- 54:58To cancel because they had a big, like the snowstorm, they had a foot and a
- 55:02half of snow cover up most of Canada, North Dakota, and then like most of South
- 55:07Dakota, like three forces, they had covered and we went to the snow line and
- 55:11we just burned up to the ground.
- 55:13I was there for 17 days straight. Holy shit.
- 55:19That'll do. Obviously not South
- 55:21Dakota because you can't hunt South Dakota that long, but it was unreal.
- 55:28And it's just crazy how weather can make your break
- 55:30it like there was lining up to be a great time
- 55:33in north dakota and then we got all that the snowstorm just blew up
- 55:36and then sat in that area and i'm like i
- 55:39called everybody like we ain't going to no data nothing happening
- 55:42like i'm not going there i'm wasting my time yeah it's first off we're gonna fight
- 55:45the roads getting there second off the ducks
- 55:48are leaving there's a foot of stone on the ground they're not standing that
- 55:51right yeah so be willing
- 55:54to adapt yeah I think that
- 55:57yeah I'm sure
- 56:00we want to get out again thank you
