- 0:03Speaker 1: Hi, ruminators, Welcome to the second hour of the Morning
- 0:06Speaker 1: Show with Preston Scott Show fifty three ninety four. He
- 0:09Speaker 1: is Jose, I am Preston. Great to be with you
- 0:12Speaker 1: wet Tuesday here on the program, but a delight to
- 0:16Speaker 1: share time with you as always, and I'm very happy
- 0:19Speaker 1: to have with us on the show. Kaylee Bush. Kaylee
- 0:24Speaker 1: was the winner of the Miss North Florida competition and
- 0:30Speaker 1: has been stripped of her title. But no, no, no,
- 0:32Speaker 1: not around here. We're calling her Miss North Florida twenty
- 0:35Speaker 1: twenty four. Kaylee, good morning, How are you?
- 0:38Speaker 2: Good morning? Thank you so much for having me on.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I refuse to not acknowledge that you are Miss North Florida.
- 0:45Speaker 1: In your heart of hearts, you know you.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Are right, Yes, sir, thank you so much.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Tell us when you got to the news that there
- 0:55Speaker 1: was something you needed to sign that was objectionable to you,
- 0:58Speaker 1: and just kind of walk us through that process.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so, let me kind of paint this picture for you.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I remember heading up to Jacksonville after I had been crowned.
- 1:11Speaker 2: You know, first of all, whenever I had got crowned
- 1:13Speaker 2: that weekend, I was thickest I've ever been worked. The
- 1:17Speaker 2: hardest I ever had, and I really just focused that weekend.
- 1:20Speaker 2: You know, I didn't really expect to win anything when
- 1:23Speaker 2: I was crowned, but I focused on uplifting others and
- 1:27Speaker 2: prayer and you know, making other girls and their mama's
- 1:31Speaker 2: feeling good inside. And I remember four weeks later heading
- 1:35Speaker 2: up to Jacksonville for such a fun weekend. I remember
- 1:39Speaker 2: me and my sister queens. We had met up for
- 1:41Speaker 2: a great dinner, we had gotten cookies, and I remember
- 1:45Speaker 2: the next morning we had woken up early in full
- 1:48Speaker 2: glam for a photo shoot. And I'll never forget it
- 1:54Speaker 2: was at this photo shoot I sat in the corner
- 1:58Speaker 2: to read the contract and I was absolutely stunned to
- 2:02Speaker 2: read the new definition on page three. In that definition
- 2:06Speaker 2: read and i'll quote a born female or an individual
- 2:11Speaker 2: who has fully completed sex or assignment surgery via vaginoplasty.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Four weeks later, after I was crowned, and I was
- 2:20Speaker 2: stopped dead in my tracks. I this was completely different
- 2:25Speaker 2: than the website. Me and my mom had researched this
- 2:28Speaker 2: pageant for a year heading up, and this is nothing
- 2:31Speaker 2: like we had originally found. And so we immediately raised concern.
- 2:36Speaker 2: We made multiple private attempts to correct their contract, you know,
- 2:40Speaker 2: pleading with Miss America, and I'm going to be honest,
- 2:43Speaker 2: I really thought that they would fix it. But weeks
- 2:47Speaker 2: went by and I did a lot of soul searching
- 2:49Speaker 2: in this. You know, I was feeling really left out.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I remember heading home from that photo shoot and Mom asking,
- 2:55Speaker 2: you know, where are we going to get food? And
- 2:57Speaker 2: I remember just not eating that day and coming home
- 2:59Speaker 2: and scrolling and seeing my you know, all my sister
- 3:03Speaker 2: queens meet up for all these fun events on the
- 3:06Speaker 2: on the phone and not while my crown sat at
- 3:09Speaker 2: home in a box. But I was it was in
- 3:13Speaker 2: that moment of like loneliness and you know, feeling left
- 3:17Speaker 2: out that I was reminded that I couldn't partner with
- 3:20Speaker 2: an organization that claims to empower women yet doesn't even
- 3:25Speaker 2: know what a woman is. Then finally, the Miss America
- 3:31Speaker 2: organization came to me and said, you know, sign or
- 3:34Speaker 2: else we're going to take away your crown. And so
- 3:37Speaker 2: I declined to sign, resulting in my crown's retirement, not
- 3:41Speaker 2: being able to compete, in losing a lot of my
- 3:44Speaker 2: funding for law school.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Kaylee, tell me this, have you had much interaction with
- 3:51Speaker 1: your fellow competitors are aren't most young ladies concerned about this?
- 3:59Speaker 2: You know, I haven't heard too much from a certain
- 4:05Speaker 2: side of the Sister Queens, but I'll tell you what.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Here in my hometown and all of these local pageants,
- 4:12Speaker 2: and I've had lots of you know, old Miss Florida's
- 4:16Speaker 2: and old people that were in the used to be
- 4:19Speaker 2: in the Miss America organization, and I've gotten nothing but
- 4:23Speaker 2: support from them, and it's just been really amazing. You know.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I remember one of the girls reaching out for me,
- 4:29Speaker 2: she used to be Miss Idaho, and her reaching out
- 4:31Speaker 2: and just expressing her encouragement, and I remember thinking to myself,
- 4:35Speaker 2: this is sisterhood, this is what this is all about.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Miss North Florida twenty twenty four, Kaylee Bush stripped of
- 4:44Speaker 1: her title because she would not sign a Miss America
- 4:48Speaker 1: contract that falsely defines female as including males. Gee, imagine that.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Would you have ever thought you needed to read the
- 4:57Speaker 1: fine print of that contract?
- 5:00Speaker 2: No, I had a clear understanding stepping onto that stage.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Like on our website it had said, you know, you
- 5:07Speaker 2: must quote be a female to compete, and so that's
- 5:10Speaker 2: what I was. And that's when I went under the
- 5:12Speaker 2: rules of understanding.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Tell me what the status of everything is right now?
- 5:16Speaker 1: I mean, obviously our visit today was arranged by Liberty Council.
- 5:21Speaker 1: We've been long friends with Matt Staver and the team
- 5:24Speaker 1: at Liberty Council for many many years. Are they representing you?
- 5:28Speaker 1: Are you? Are you taking? Are you suing Miss America?
- 5:32Speaker 1: Is the state of Florida suing Miss America? What's the status?
- 5:36Speaker 2: You know? That part is kind of up to them,
- 5:38Speaker 2: But Liberty Council has been more than help. You know,
- 5:44Speaker 2: if you're ever in trouble, you definitely want these people
- 5:47Speaker 2: in your corner. They've written me two amazing demand letters,
- 5:51Speaker 2: not one to explaining the impact you know, whether that
- 5:55Speaker 2: Miss America knows it or not, that their policy defined
- 5:58Speaker 2: female to include boys as young as fourteen who have
- 6:01Speaker 2: been medically castrated, and that this is an abandonment of
- 6:05Speaker 2: truth and that no child's safety is worth the crown.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Clearly, Kayleie, this was on your radar and that of
- 6:12Speaker 1: your family heading into this pageant. To a certain extent,
- 6:17Speaker 1: We've talked about this at nauseum on the show. I
- 6:19Speaker 1: have warned of this for many, many years, of what
- 6:22Speaker 1: was coming in women's spaces with athletics, with beauty pageants.
- 6:26Speaker 1: We've chronicled the stories. We've had Riley Gaines on the
- 6:29Speaker 1: program a couple of times over the last year. Have
- 6:33Speaker 1: you been made aware of how big of a problem
- 6:36Speaker 1: this has become or did you know going in and
- 6:40Speaker 1: that's why you were cautious?
- 6:42Speaker 2: So, like I said, I had went in there under
- 6:45Speaker 2: the clear rules, you know, understanding this was a pageant
- 6:50Speaker 2: just for women. Like I said, we had researched for
- 6:53Speaker 2: a year everything that went into this. But I really
- 6:57Speaker 2: I love Riley and I love her courage. I like
- 6:59Speaker 2: to say that courage is contagious. And I see her
- 7:02Speaker 2: story and I see other girls' stories standing up, and
- 7:06Speaker 2: that's what gives me the courage to do the same.
- 7:08Speaker 1: But yet there are people we chronicled the story just
- 7:11Speaker 1: before we had you on the show this morning of
- 7:13Speaker 1: Simone Biles. Here's a US Olympian, one of the most
- 7:16Speaker 1: decorated in history, who is stepping in and supporting men
- 7:21Speaker 1: competing against women. And it's so it's troubling that we
- 7:26Speaker 1: are living in a culture that is so confused about
- 7:28Speaker 1: something that is so clear.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really crazy, and it's really really sad.
- 7:33Speaker 1: So tell me what life looks like for you now
- 7:36Speaker 1: moving ahead? I mean, do you find yourself now drawn
- 7:40Speaker 1: into this fight a little bit with Riley? Are you
- 7:43Speaker 1: going to get involved in a level of activism here
- 7:46Speaker 1: or is it now just about charting a course to
- 7:48Speaker 1: move on with your life.
- 7:50Speaker 2: You know, we're going to see what the Lord does
- 7:51Speaker 2: with it. I have a clear message, and that's even
- 7:55Speaker 2: if you're the only one standing stand up for what
- 7:59Speaker 2: you believe in. Live in the greatest country where free
- 8:02Speaker 2: speech is constantly under attack. So use that free speech
- 8:06Speaker 2: and don't be afraid to speak up and speak the
- 8:08Speaker 2: truth boldly.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You know, when we last had Riley on the program,
- 8:13Speaker 1: she talked about a ten to ten on October tenth xx.
- 8:17Speaker 1: If you use the Roman numerals day where girls and
- 8:21Speaker 1: women don't compete in sports and send a message. I'm
- 8:25Speaker 1: of the opinion that it's going to take more than that.
- 8:28Speaker 2: That.
- 8:28Speaker 1: It's going to take you know, not competing period for
- 8:32Speaker 1: a season for a while to not give anybody that's
- 8:37Speaker 1: a male pretending to be a female a platform to compete.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Do you have any thoughts on that on the issue
- 8:43Speaker 1: at large and how to bring this to a halt.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean I love the idea of all real
- 8:48Speaker 2: women standing together for truth. It's going to take a team,
- 8:52Speaker 2: and it's going to take a sacrifice. I sacrifice the crown,
- 8:55Speaker 2: but the crown has lost its luster and that's a
- 8:59Speaker 2: sacrifice worth taking.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Absolutely, Kaylee, I wish you nothing but the best. Feel
- 9:05Speaker 1: free to stay in touch with us, let us know
- 9:06Speaker 1: if we can help in any way, shape or form,
- 9:09Speaker 1: whether it's you personally and advancing your career goals and
- 9:12Speaker 1: what you want to do, or just updating us on
- 9:14Speaker 1: the story.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Thank you so much for having me on and taking
- 9:16Speaker 2: a bold stand for truth. I love what you guys
- 9:19Speaker 2: are doing up there.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Thank you. Kaylee Bush with us this morning. She is
- 9:23Speaker 1: our miss North Florida, Thank you very much and standing
- 9:28Speaker 1: up for truth, standing up for her faith, and standing
- 9:31Speaker 1: up for other young girls that are going to compete. Someday,
- 9:36Speaker 1: perhaps this will right or wrong. Kaylee again, thank you.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Sixteen minutes past the hour, It's The Morning Show with
- 9:41Speaker 1: Preston Scott
