- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to get right
- 0:06back to the Leslie Groff transcript from her meeting with Congress. Question,
- 0:13I'd like to ask you a few more questions about
- 0:15your work for mister Epstein booking travel. As part of
- 0:19your employment for mister Epstein, you arrange domestic and international
- 0:22travel for girls and young women. Correct answer for women, yes,
- 0:28question and not for girls. Answer, I don't believe I
- 0:31ever made any travel. When you say girls, what do
- 0:33you mean minors? Question yes, individuals women under the age
- 0:38of eighteen, so girls answer no. Question. During the period
- 0:42that you worked for mister Epstein, approximately how many young
- 0:46women do you think that you arrange travel for, including flights, hotels,
- 0:51and any other kind of travel. Answer it's a difficult question.
- 0:56Over the course of my entire time with them, I
- 0:58really don't know. Question. If you had to estimate, would
- 1:01it be dozens, hundreds, thousands? Answer not thousands? No, And
- 1:07some people would be it was usually his traveling assistance
- 1:10that would be going to see him, But it's very
- 1:12difficult for me to try to come up with the number.
- 1:14It was not thousands, it was not hundreds. I don't know,
- 1:17fifty seventy fifty, I don't know. Mister Buckner, don't speculate
- 1:22if you don't know the answers you don't know. Ms Groff, Yeah,
- 1:25I don't know. Question So you talked about his travel
- 1:28assistance before when you were booking this travel. Would you
- 1:32work with them to do it? Answer? Sometimes if I
- 1:35was directed to by Epstein to book a ticket and
- 1:38I needed to speak with them, but usually it was
- 1:41whatever he wanted. Question and who would that have been
- 1:45on his staff that you would have booked travel with
- 1:48or work with the book travel? Answer just MX Centurion. Question,
- 1:53oh understood. What was your understanding of the purpose of
- 1:56this travel? Answer for the traveling assistance to help him
- 1:59with his travel, to be there to do chores, to
- 2:02make sure that the staff wherever he was going had
- 2:04things they would go grocery shopping, things of that nature. Question.
- 2:10I think we may be miscommunicating, so I'll try to
- 2:12be more clear. When you book travel on behalf of
- 2:15mister Epstein for women affiliated with them, did you work
- 2:19with people on his staff to do that? Answer? No question, okay, question,
- 2:26but did you work with external people like misredacted answer yes,
- 2:30question okay, And this travel was typically for his staff,
- 2:33but also potentially other women as well. Correct answer, correct question, okay,
- 2:39for those other women, not staff members who are traveling
- 2:41with them, but for those other women. What was your
- 2:44understanding of the typical purpose of that travel? Answer? I
- 2:49didn't ask him why he had people traveling. I don't know. Question.
- 2:52Were you ever aware of the purpose being for mister
- 2:55Epstein to engage in sexual activity with these young women?
- 2:59Answer no question. Were you ever aware of the purpose
- 3:02being for people in his network to engage with sexual
- 3:06activity with these young women? Answer no question. I'd like
- 3:12to introduce as minority exhibit F this email exchange between
- 3:16you and mister Epstein. Excuse me, an email exchange between
- 3:20you and misredacted from September fifth, twenty seventeen. The Bates
- 3:25number is EFTA zero zero four five eight zero seven four.
- 3:30Although your name is redacted here, I'll represent to you,
- 3:33based on an in camera review of an unredacted version
- 3:36of the document, that the bottom email is from you.
- 3:40In this exchange, you raised with misredacted what you say
- 3:43is a quote gigantic issue. You flagged that some flight
- 3:47confirmations were sent to people other than you, and you
- 3:49tell misredacted that quote Jeffrey was livid about this specifically,
- 3:55you note that some flight confirmations were sent or redacted
- 3:58and another person why that was mister Epstein angry about
- 4:02flight confirmations being sent to misredacted? And this other person answer,
- 4:06I don't know. I know that he's an extremely private
- 4:09person and didn't like other people knowing what he was
- 4:12didn't want people to know about his schedule. Question is
- 4:16this something that you remember in being angry about in
- 4:18other instances flight confirmations being sent to people other than you?
- 4:23Answer in other instances, I believe this was the time
- 4:27when something was happening on amex Centurion's end, and emails
- 4:30were going to everybody that was in their database, and
- 4:33he did not want everyone that was in their database
- 4:36receiving flight confirmations. Question, emails were going to everyone in
- 4:41amex Centurion's database. Answer the database that would be for
- 4:45us for Epstein? Question, got it? And who would have
- 4:48been included in that database? Answer? It would be anyone
- 4:51who was authorized to book travel. I would believe so
- 4:54any of the traveling assistants probably question, and you too,
- 4:58right answer and me, uh huh. Question anyone else? Answer Epstein,
- 5:04I don't know who else it might have been. Question
- 5:06you also write that quote on petrified that all these
- 5:09tickets we have coming up this week from Russia to
- 5:11Paris will somehow resurface and get emailed to someone in
- 5:15our list of emails who was flying from Russia to Paris.
- 5:19Answer I don't recall. Question were you concerned that information
- 5:23about their flights would quote resurface? Answer? It wasn't me
- 5:27that was concerned. I didn't want to hear the wrath
- 5:30and get in trouble from mister Epstein about inadvertently having
- 5:33confirmations be sent to people that were not on our list.
- 5:37Question I understand you said he's a private person. Was
- 5:40there any other reason he might not want these flight
- 5:42confirmations to go on that list? Answer not that I
- 5:45know of. No question And to clarify, you understand your
- 5:49reference here to a list of emails being that MX
- 5:51Centurion database that we just spoke about. Answer correct question.
- 5:56So we know that mister Epstein was in Paris at
- 5:59this point and had dinner reservations or excuse me, dinner
- 6:02plans on September fifth, twenty seventeen, which is the date
- 6:06of this email. We also know that multiple women were
- 6:09scheduled to arrive in Paris that week. Were these women
- 6:13traveling to Paris for the purpose of engaging in sexual
- 6:16activity with mister Epstein? Answer? I don't know. Question were
- 6:21you ever aware of women who were booking travel for
- 6:24being manipulated or course to travel? Answer? No, question, Miss Groff,
- 6:29So you previously testified that the names in the database
- 6:32would have been the traveling assistants and other members of
- 6:35mister Epstein's staff. Is that correct? Answer? That's what I believe. Question?
- 6:40And you also previously testified that those women's jobs was
- 6:44to travel with mister Epstein and run his errands and
- 6:47arrange his schedule while he was traveling. Is that correct
- 6:50answer yes? Question so why would it then have been
- 6:54a problem for those women to know about people who
- 6:56might have been traveling to meet them while he was
- 6:58traveling to Paris? Answer? I don't know why he would
- 7:02think it's a problem. I think he was a control
- 7:04freak and just like he didn't it was like when
- 7:08he was out, it felt out of control. It was
- 7:10out of his control. He wanted it to stop. Question okay.
- 7:14So we have some questions about the payments from mister
- 7:17Epstein that were discussed I think a little bit in
- 7:19the previous hour. So as discussed, we have records of
- 7:23some large cash transfers from Southern Financial to you. So
- 7:27Southern Financial was one of mister Epstein's entities. Is that correct? Answer? Yes?
- 7:32Question okay? And are you aware of a transfer from
- 7:35Southern Financial to you on February first, twenty sixteen, of
- 7:40one hundred thousand dollars? Answer? Oh, that was alone, yes,
- 7:44question okay. So that one, there's another one of one
- 7:47hundred thousand on January third, twenty seventeen. Answer correct question.
- 7:52And I believe you said that there was one in
- 7:54twenty eighteen. What was the date of that one? Answer?
- 7:58Probably around the same date as the others. I don't
- 8:00know exactly. Question okay, So early twenty eighteen. Answer probably yes,
- 8:06at the beginning of the year. That would make sense.
- 8:08Question of one hundred thousand answer correct question okay. And
- 8:13then there's a transfer of one hundred and ten thousand
- 8:16from Southern Financial to you on December nineteenth, twenty eighteen.
- 8:20Answer correct question okay. And so it's correct based on
- 8:24your previous testimony that these were loans that were made
- 8:27to you as part of your compensation once your compensation
- 8:30system changed to a salary plus loan answer correct. Question okay,
- 8:35were there any other such loans made to you by
- 8:37mister Epstein or his entities? Answer no question. Okay. Did
- 8:42you receive any gifts from mister Epstein or any of
- 8:45his entities between December nineteenth, twenty eighteen and his death?
- 8:48Answer no question. Okay, answer not that I recall. Question
- 8:54And of those so four hundred and ten thousand, we
- 8:57know that some were loans that were forgiven at the
- 9:00time of his death. What was the outstanding balance of
- 9:03the loans that was forgiven at the time of his death?
- 9:06Answer I guess the four hundred and ten thousand. Question okay,
- 9:09So you didn't pay back any of those loans at
- 9:11any point before his death or after? Answer correct, mister Buckner.
- 9:15Can I have a moment with her, Miss Groff? I
- 9:18was writing interest loans interest checks whenever they were due.
- 9:22I don't know. Questions, So you paid the interest but
- 9:24not the principal Answer yeah, exactly, I paid the interest
- 9:28from the start. Question Okay, did you ever help facilitate
- 9:31any transfers, money transfers to or from mister Epstein or
- 9:35any of his entities. Answer no question, okay. Sarah Kellen
- 9:40told investigators that in December twenty eighteen, you emailed her
- 9:44to meet with mister Epstein and he late later gave
- 9:46her two hundred and fifty thousand. Were you aware of
- 9:49that payment at the time? Answer I was not. No
- 9:52question okay. Did you later become aware of that payment
- 9:55at any time before mister Epstein's death? Answer no question, okay.
- 10:00And then we have some questions about your roles in
- 10:02mister Epstein's various trusts. So you were named as a
- 10:06beneficiary of the twenty thirteen Butterfly Trust on a document
- 10:10dated December thirty first, twenty thirteen. Can you explain what
- 10:14the Butterfly Trust is? Answer no, I cannot. I didn't
- 10:17know about the Butterfly Trust. Answer you didn't know of
- 10:20its existence? Answer correct question until when? Answer until after
- 10:24his death and all this came out and we were
- 10:26preparing to meet with you. Question okay. So, at no
- 10:29point until your preparation for this interview did you know
- 10:32either of the existence of the Butterfly Trust or the
- 10:35fact that you were named as a beneficiary. Answer that
- 10:38is correct. Question Okay, were you did you know that
- 10:42you were named as a beneficiary of any other of
- 10:45mister Epstein's trusts? Answer no question. Okay, they go off
- 10:49the record. Now they're back on. Question Is that your
- 10:53understanding at this point, now that you were aware of
- 10:56the trust and your position as a beneficiary, that you
- 10:59are eligible to his money from that trust? Answer, I
- 11:02don't believe I'm in the trust. After we were prepping
- 11:06for this, I believe I was taken out of that trust.
- 11:08Question do you know when that occurred? Answer? I believe
- 11:11it occurred when he was in jail. He took me
- 11:13out of his trust. Question after his arrest in twenty nineteen.
- 11:16Answer correct question. Okay. And separately, you were named as
- 11:20a trustee of the twenty seventeen Caterpillar Trust on a
- 11:24document dated January first, twenty seventeen. So were you aware
- 11:29at that time that you had been named as a
- 11:30trust d on the other trust? Answer after prepping for
- 11:35this testimony, I remember it now. Question, but you were
- 11:38not you were aware at that time? Answer? I must
- 11:42have been aware at the time because my signature is
- 11:44on the paperwork. Question okay. And what were you or
- 11:48are your responsibilities as a trustee? Answer I don't think
- 11:51I had any responsibilities question at any point? Answer correct.
- 11:56Question okay. And do you stand to benefit financially from
- 11:59your role as trustee? Answer no, no. Question is it
- 12:03you're understanding that the Caterpillar Trust is still in existence?
- 12:07Answer I don't know. I don't think so, I don't know.
- 12:11Question Okay, you don't know. Answer I don't know. Question,
- 12:16got it? Thank you? All right, folks, we're gonna wrap
- 12:18up right here, and in the next episode dealing with
- 12:20the topic, we're gonna pick up where we left off.
