- 0:00Speaker 1: How do everybody. I'm Alex Bassi. I'm a guitar player
- 0:02Speaker 1: and songwriter for Bomina's Ruined. We just released an album.
- 0:06Speaker 1: It's out now on Relative Records. It's called Requiem. It's
- 0:09Speaker 1: our second full length album. Give it a listen, tell
- 0:12Speaker 1: us what you think, tell us if if you like it,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and especially tell us if you think it sucks, and
- 0:18Speaker 1: we'll be sure to say go fuck yourself.
- 0:19Speaker 2: No, that's right, well done, thanks for joining us.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Happy to be here. No, it's just funny.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I just read a review of somebody like most of
- 0:32Speaker 1: our reviews of this album have been super positive, and
- 0:34Speaker 1: it's been great.
- 0:34Speaker 3: It's been pretty well received.
- 0:36Speaker 1: And then somebody sent me a review directly that they
- 0:38Speaker 1: wrote that was just kind of like a slap in
- 0:40Speaker 1: the face.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And I was like, all right, okay, well that's fine.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Well why did I feel the need to send it
- 0:45Speaker 2: to you directly?
- 0:47Speaker 3: I know, I don't know, but you're just rubbing it in.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I know you got me on that Monday. I guess. No,
- 0:54Speaker 3: it's okay.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So as you say, Omas through and released your sophomore album,
- 1:00Speaker 2: We am back on my The nvest Its Fade about
- 1:02Speaker 2: a month now, so a start from the DCAD before
- 1:05Speaker 2: as a response been shot.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been great.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I'm trying to go through the reviews now and just
- 1:10Speaker 1: make sure that you know, I try to give everyone
- 1:12Speaker 1: the flowers for taking the time to review the album
- 1:14Speaker 1: and whatnot, and even give it a listen, like, we
- 1:17Speaker 1: appreciate all the support and everyone that's given us the
- 1:19Speaker 1: kind feedback. You know, it's so far, I mean a
- 1:23Speaker 1: lot of a lot of positive feedback.
- 1:25Speaker 3: So I'm stoked. Yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Cool, So can you dive into the album a bit
- 1:28Speaker 2: more deeper from a musical point of view and tell
- 1:30Speaker 2: us where you've got focused on run?
- 1:32Speaker 3: Yeah? I think.
- 1:34Speaker 1: And it's funny because in that negative review, I don't
- 1:36Speaker 1: want to keep bringing it up. But I think one
- 1:38Speaker 1: of the things that I tried to avoid was the
- 1:41Speaker 1: sound like another one hundred other bands kind of comment, right, Yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: And you know, I think a lot of people so
- 1:48Speaker 1: far have said that, you know, it sounds unique, it
- 1:50Speaker 1: sounds you know different, It's it's kind of kind of
- 1:53Speaker 1: a plethora of genres mixed into one and obviously, like
- 1:57Speaker 1: at its core, it's like a technical death metal album.
- 2:01Speaker 1: But I personally wrote most of the music in like
- 2:04Speaker 1: specific a specific headspace, like the time of the time
- 2:09Speaker 1: that a lot of those songs were actually written a
- 2:11Speaker 1: lot of like we had a lot of chaos going
- 2:13Speaker 1: on between all of us individually and as a band,
- 2:17Speaker 1: and if you look into the history, I could explain
- 2:19Speaker 1: a little bit. We had a vocalist change in between
- 2:23Speaker 1: our last album and this album. So now we have
- 2:25Speaker 1: Crystal who it's our first project, first album she's ever recorded,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and I think she.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Did a great job.
- 2:32Speaker 1: And it kind of, you know, it plays into the
- 2:36Speaker 1: trying to sound unique and not even because we're like, oh,
- 2:39Speaker 1: she's a girl, she sounds unique, blah blah blah. She's
- 2:41Speaker 1: one of my best friends. But that definitely helps, right,
- 2:44Speaker 1: So it kind of gives it its own character. And yeah,
- 2:49Speaker 1: it's a lot of like emotion that when so I
- 2:53Speaker 1: guess maybe that's why when somebody says we sound like
- 2:56Speaker 1: one hundred other bands, that I take offense to it.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you deliberately tried, that's a yeah, right, yeah, But
- 3:02Speaker 3: if you think so, feel free to tell me, and
- 3:05Speaker 3: I'll just say, all right, that's cool. You know.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Me mentioned this is your second album, but it's what
- 3:11Speaker 2: lesson is that you let from your debut meets voices
- 3:14Speaker 2: at echowin Stein. Did you take he did this album?
- 3:19Speaker 3: Yeah, a lot. I think.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's it's so hard because, like I said, we had
- 3:26Speaker 1: a vocalist changed. I think there's so much that goes into, like,
- 3:29Speaker 1: you know, just the how you take advantage of a
- 3:34Speaker 1: release per se, and you know, all the kind of
- 3:36Speaker 1: like numbers and everything, reviews and everything that kind of
- 3:40Speaker 1: goes into releasing an album and what you're supposed to
- 3:43Speaker 1: do before leading up to release day and after. Like
- 3:48Speaker 1: I thought, I had to handle on it the first time,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but this time around, it's still kind of like kicked
- 3:52Speaker 1: me in the ass, and it's.
- 3:53Speaker 3: A lot of managing.
- 3:55Speaker 1: It's basically like being a project manager and dealing with
- 3:58Speaker 1: a lot of stuff that was hoping to have a
- 4:03Speaker 1: little bit more support around this time, but you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: again with the different vocalist change, it.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Was kind of it was just tough. It was tough
- 4:09Speaker 3: to get the handle on everything.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And so, you know, like you said, we're a month
- 4:13Speaker 1: out almost from the release, and the fact that we're
- 4:15Speaker 1: still able to talk about it is fantastic to me
- 4:18Speaker 1: because the more we can spread it out over my
- 4:21Speaker 1: day job, the better, you know, you.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Released a couple of singles, yet Staring into the Abosm
- 4:28Speaker 2: and Seeds of Entropy, so just say that's all someone's
- 4:31Speaker 2: heard of the album. Is that a good sonic representation
- 4:34Speaker 2: of that whole thing?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Or is it just bits and bassis. I think it's
- 4:38Speaker 3: definitely bits and pieces.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I think Seeds of Entropy is the first song that
- 4:42Speaker 1: I wrote for this album that was it's basically a
- 4:45Speaker 1: direct continuation of the last song of our last album.
- 4:49Speaker 1: So if you kind of go through the last song,
- 4:51Speaker 1: it ends with like a piano thing. Then the new
- 4:53Speaker 1: album comes in with the piano thing, and it's kind
- 4:56Speaker 1: of like just really again a continuation.
- 4:58Speaker 3: It plays into a lot of the same like.
- 5:02Speaker 1: What's we're looking for basically, like chords and melodies, a
- 5:06Speaker 1: lot of the same motifs that I used for in
- 5:09Speaker 1: the first album. So and then Staring into the Abysm
- 5:13Speaker 1: was a song that I intended to be instrumental, but
- 5:16Speaker 1: then everyone fought me on it and then added lyrics,
- 5:18Speaker 1: and I'm glad they did because it turned it out waysick,
- 5:21Speaker 1: turned out ways sick. But no, I think, you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: if there's a few other songs like Eternal and Architect
- 5:27Speaker 1: of Undoing, that take things into like a completely different area,
- 5:31Speaker 1: and you know, they're both a little bit longer and
- 5:34Speaker 1: just kind of it's more of a journey. Seeds and
- 5:38Speaker 1: Staring are kind of like a direct like hit you
- 5:41Speaker 1: in the face kind of attack, and Architects a lot
- 5:46Speaker 1: of the album does that, but I think Architects and
- 5:48Speaker 1: Eternal just have more elements that play into it that
- 5:50Speaker 1: are sonically pleasing to hear.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm glad you brought up the piano inscribe by
- 5:56Speaker 4: it because a lot of the way the album starts
- 5:58Speaker 4: through that soars ambient, soothing, and then it just fits
- 6:02Speaker 4: crushed the fuck at him really quick, like that was
- 6:05Speaker 4: actually following on from the first album.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Was it?
- 6:08Speaker 3: Yeah? I had.
- 6:09Speaker 1: I had used essentially like a snippet of that piano
- 6:12Speaker 1: piece at the end the very end of the last album,
- 6:15Speaker 1: like it fades it super quiet at the very end.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Yeah, that explains it then, because if it was just
- 6:20Speaker 2: listening to it and I was gone, I thought I
- 6:22Speaker 2: was told this was a death metal band and then
- 6:24Speaker 2: it's just going fucking boom.
- 6:26Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yep, they are.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Good. We lulled you into it.
- 6:33Speaker 1: It's important to me at least because and and a
- 6:36Speaker 1: lot of the reviews that I'm reading too, it's like, oh,
- 6:38Speaker 1: it's like balls to the Wall killer and that's all
- 6:40Speaker 1: good and fine, but it's it can be especially like
- 6:43Speaker 1: if you go see a band live, it can be
- 6:46Speaker 1: tough right to sit through, like thirty forty five minutes
- 6:49Speaker 1: of just like hammered it hammered out in the face
- 6:53Speaker 1: of death metal.
- 6:53Speaker 3: So you know.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So that's that's that little element there, just to just
- 6:59Speaker 2: to split it up a little bit.
- 7:00Speaker 1: It's a little little breathing room. You can't you can't
- 7:03Speaker 1: wash like forty five minutes world, you know.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Ah, tell me about it. You mentioned the new sing
- 7:09Speaker 2: her Chapolt Songs like a Night means Crystal Rise, which
- 7:12Speaker 2: it's a beautiful name, but it does not reflect cashy
- 7:15Speaker 2: things at all. Tell us a bit more about her
- 7:18Speaker 2: or what she brings to the album.
- 7:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Absolutely, She's been a great friend of mine for a
- 7:24Speaker 1: long time now, so I'm very stoked that she's a
- 7:26Speaker 1: part of this project. It's her first ever actual band,
- 7:31Speaker 1: she and it's her first ever album. Yeah, And and
- 7:34Speaker 1: so she in that regard, she was very like Malleable, right,
- 7:38Speaker 1: So it's like she didn't come in with all these
- 7:41Speaker 1: kind of set in her ways about how she likes
- 7:44Speaker 1: to go about practice or recording, you know, first time
- 7:48Speaker 1: really recording. Aside from so, we had her as a
- 7:52Speaker 1: guest vocalist on our first album, the third track called Deception.
- 7:57Speaker 1: She did a couple of lines in that song, and
- 8:00Speaker 1: that's how I knew. I was like, that's how I
- 8:02Speaker 1: knew she was great. I recorded her vocals in our
- 8:06Speaker 1: practice studio. And the longer story behind it is we
- 8:10Speaker 1: had a previous guitar player, another good friend of mine, PETTERR,
- 8:13Speaker 1: who's still a friend.
- 8:15Speaker 3: We just had to change part ways.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's his girlfriend is Crystal, So you know, a
- 8:23Speaker 1: bunch of ties to the band already. He played in
- 8:26Speaker 1: another band that had a room in the same practice
- 8:30Speaker 1: studio we were in, and she would just go in.
- 8:31Speaker 3: There and scream her fucking head off to like shadow
- 8:33Speaker 3: even tent or something.
- 8:34Speaker 1: She did like all these covers, and so we would
- 8:37Speaker 1: hear it from down the hall and be like, holy shit,
- 8:39Speaker 1: is that Crystal?
- 8:40Speaker 3: You know?
- 8:41Speaker 1: And so eventually, like you know, when it came time
- 8:43Speaker 1: we had to part ways with our previous vocalist, it
- 8:46Speaker 1: was it was not a hard decision for me.
- 8:49Speaker 3: To just say, like, why don't we just use her?
- 8:51Speaker 1: I mean it's like I said, obviously it plays into
- 8:53Speaker 1: like being a little bit different whatever.
- 8:55Speaker 3: But she's fucking awesome. So she did a great job,
- 8:59Speaker 3: you know, and.
- 9:00Speaker 2: That Ben ben Shage singers all the time, Brian, but
- 9:03Speaker 2: it's not often you hear a band go from a
- 9:05Speaker 2: mile to a female singer. So did that make it
- 9:08Speaker 2: any any more difficult of the transition or the music
- 9:11Speaker 2: cauld have to be touched difer, wasn't it it?
- 9:13Speaker 1: You know, like I said, she was very malleable, so
- 9:17Speaker 1: I think we had when it came time to like
- 9:19Speaker 1: record and do all that stuff, I think she kind
- 9:21Speaker 1: of like through all of whatever ideas she had out
- 9:24Speaker 1: the window. Anyways, So obviously, I mean, she doesn't sound
- 9:26Speaker 1: like a dude.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Well I don't know. Some people says she does sound
- 9:29Speaker 3: like she does sound.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Like a guy, but you know, but yeah, for sure,
- 9:33Speaker 1: And it makes I think, not only does it make
- 9:35Speaker 1: the relationship between all of us a little bit easier,
- 9:38Speaker 1: it's a little bit less egocentric now. I think you
- 9:43Speaker 1: know her expectations too, where she was she was basically
- 9:47Speaker 1: thinking she had to be she had to sound like
- 9:49Speaker 1: Adam or previous vocalist or something even you know, even
- 9:52Speaker 1: when we go to play these.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Other songs live, because she hasn't actually even played like
- 9:55Speaker 3: a full show yet.
- 9:57Speaker 1: But if if that's the case, it's like kind of
- 9:59Speaker 1: like no Arch Enemy had a male vocalist before and
- 10:02Speaker 1: then they transitioned to a female vocalist, right, and look
- 10:05Speaker 1: at where they're at now.
- 10:06Speaker 3: So and there's probably many other situations.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But yeah, maybe there was like a little bit of
- 10:13Speaker 1: a stigma first, but I think we all kind of
- 10:14Speaker 1: squashed it.
- 10:15Speaker 3: It's not really I don't know.
- 10:18Speaker 1: I think she's good enough, and I think she has
- 10:20Speaker 1: a lot of untapped potential to just kind of be
- 10:23Speaker 1: like one of the best. In my opinion, I don't
- 10:26Speaker 1: even think we did the best job on this album
- 10:28Speaker 1: capturing like what she's really capable of.
- 10:30Speaker 3: So album three, it's gonna be sick. No, have you
- 10:34Speaker 3: had the.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Fans made like fans that have been with you from
- 10:36Speaker 2: the start, if they embraced the challenge, like hope they would.
- 10:41Speaker 1: As far as I'm aware, And if you know, if
- 10:44Speaker 1: people haven't, I haven't really like noticed anything. And if
- 10:47Speaker 1: they do, then I don't who the fuck cares you? Know,
- 10:51Speaker 1: you know it's we We again love the support, Thank
- 10:55Speaker 1: you for supporting us. If you really feel like it's
- 10:57Speaker 1: if it's that big of a deal, then I don't
- 11:00Speaker 1: know what to tell you. We are an opinionated bunch
- 11:03Speaker 1: of people, though, aren't we the metal folk more than.
- 11:07Speaker 2: More side than anyone else in the world. Off fan
- 11:09Speaker 2: Bright it's ridiculous.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but you know, and again like if maybe,
- 11:15Speaker 1: if if you are hearing this, then you were an
- 11:18Speaker 1: old supporter and didn't necessarily like her. I encourage you
- 11:21Speaker 1: to listen to the full album because I think as
- 11:24Speaker 1: it goes, I think she gets better and better.
- 11:26Speaker 2: So I'll second that, Jane, because if you type the
- 11:28Speaker 2: gender out of the equation completely, she's just a fucking
- 11:32Speaker 2: bright singer. She's that at the end of the day.
- 11:34Speaker 2: She's a great singer.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Brad, I'm glad you think so. That's awesome.
- 11:39Speaker 2: If you got any shows coming up right and you
- 11:41Speaker 2: want to plug.
- 11:42Speaker 1: We are in the process of putting them together. But
- 11:46Speaker 1: it's been a very interesting situation to say the last.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It's it's tough for us. We you know, we all
- 11:52Speaker 1: work full time jobs and now that I have moved
- 11:55Speaker 1: to San Diego, so I'm about an eight hour drive
- 11:58Speaker 1: from where everyone else in the list, but they you know,
- 12:02Speaker 1: they can still go practice in San Jose where they're
- 12:04Speaker 1: at and whatnot. So the goal is to get some
- 12:07Speaker 1: stuff happening by like September October and see kind of
- 12:11Speaker 1: where it goes from there. I think we'll have, you know,
- 12:14Speaker 1: some tours probably lined up for next year.
- 12:16Speaker 3: And at this rate, it's.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Just man like every band is booking tours like six
- 12:21Speaker 1: months out. It feels like, yeah, yeah, it's just kind
- 12:25Speaker 1: of tough to try to like squeeze something in there,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and you know, yeah, so hopefully hopefully next year at
- 12:32Speaker 1: the very least, nice Where.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Is the best place for people to keep in chats
- 12:35Speaker 2: with on on this road and what you're doing it,
- 12:37Speaker 2: where you're going.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Yeah, Instagram is probably our most active thing. You can
- 12:42Speaker 1: message us, We'll say hi.
- 12:43Speaker 3: Uh.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Facebook is kind of turned into what it's turned into.
- 12:47Speaker 1: You know, it's kind of tough to use these days,
- 12:50Speaker 1: and you know, honestly, Instagram is probably the best place.
- 12:53Speaker 3: We're kind of all over here and there.
- 12:56Speaker 1: YouTube, we have a TikTok, we don't use it, what
- 13:01Speaker 1: I mean, in general, like I said, Instagram is probably
- 13:04Speaker 1: the best. We have all of our stuff for sale
- 13:06Speaker 1: at band camp. That's where the record label Will It
- 13:09Speaker 1: Tip has everything. The vinyls turned out sick, and we'll
- 13:13Speaker 1: post most of our updates pretty.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Much across all platforms and try not to be obnoxious
- 13:19Speaker 3: about it.
- 13:22Speaker 2: A sorry brother, Well thanks you. Tom brought me the
- 13:24Speaker 2: pleasure speaking into the album Requiem. He's out now and
- 13:27Speaker 2: it is a brutal slab of metal mite.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Well done and best to luck with it, Chris.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I appreciate you, appreciate everyone that listens, and thank you
- 13:35Speaker 1: for having me
