- 0:21Welcome to Pomoja Podcast, a ministry of Life
- 0:25of Christ International. Pamoja means together,
- 0:28and that's exactly what this space is about.
- 0:30Walking together in faith, growing together through
- 0:33the word, and living the life of Christ in our
- 0:35homes, our marriages, and our daily lives. I'm
- 0:39your host, Barry Mwamba, and in this season premiere,
- 0:43we begin our journey with a theme close to my
- 0:45heart, marriage. I believe marriage is one of
- 0:49life's greatest challenges, and one of the covenants
- 0:52the enemy fears the most. Today we begin with
- 0:55part one, the house in the middle of the forest.
- 0:58This is how our marriage began. At least from
- 1:01my side. My wife will share her story in one
- 1:04of the coming episodes. After falling deeply
- 1:07in love with this intelligent, beautiful Christian
- 1:10woman from my church, who is now my wife, I went
- 1:13to seek my father's counsel. Rather than asking
- 1:16about her, he looked at me, smiled, and began
- 1:19to share a story. A parable I later titled, the
- 1:23house in the middle of the forest he said marriage
- 1:26is like a beautiful house discovered deep within
- 1:29a vast forest a man walking through the woods
- 1:33stumbles upon this magnificent dwelling its beauty
- 1:37draws him in peeking through a window he sees
- 1:40a couple laughing and enjoying each other's company
- 1:43a scene so captivating that he feels an irresistible
- 1:47urge to join them he enters with enthusiasm eager
- 1:51to know their secret how they managed to be so
- 1:54happy. But once inside, my father continued,
- 1:57he discovers three strange things. First, the
- 2:01door only opens from the outside, meaning he
- 2:04cannot leave on his own terms. Second, the windows
- 2:07are sealed, no escape, no fresh air. And third,
- 2:12the house is warm, even stuffy. He stands there
- 2:15bewildered, wondering how this couple can be
- 2:18so joyful in such a confined and uncomfortable
- 2:21space. Even though my father explained the story's
- 2:24meaning that day, it took me over 20 years to
- 2:27truly understand it. Discovering God's purpose
- 2:31is a journey that unfolds over time, and the
- 2:35daily process of endurance is the most challenging
- 2:37part. It demands faith, patience, and the guidance
- 2:41of the Holy Spirit. because the outcome is determined
- 2:44by the strength of your foundation. As the psalmist
- 2:47said, unless the Lord builds the house, the builders
- 2:50labor in vain. Without God's blessing and presence,
- 2:54all human effort is wasted. If He didn't initiate
- 2:58the journey with you, it's bound to fail. When
- 3:00your path turns rocky, when fear, pain, or uncertainty
- 3:04weigh you down. That's when God steps in to carry
- 3:07your burden. Jesus said, Come to me, all you
- 3:11who are weary and burdened, and I will give you
- 3:13rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me.
- 3:16For I am gentle and humble in heart, and you
- 3:19will find rest for your souls. Even in your darkest
- 3:23valley, you are not alone. As Psalm 23 declares,
- 3:27Even though I walk through the valley of the
- 3:30shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For you
- 3:33are with me, your rod and your staff, they comfort
- 3:37me. Keep this truth close. Our plans only succeed
- 3:41when God is the foundation. When He is, He will
- 3:45make sure you reach your destination. Proverbs
- 3:48reminds us, commit your works to the Lord and
- 3:50your plans will be established. And Philippians
- 3:531 6 assures us, He who began a good work in you
- 3:57will carry it on to completion. If God began
- 4:00it, He will finish it. That's why I sought God
- 4:02first before I pursued marriage. I prayed, I
- 4:06fasted, and I waited until he opened my eyes.
- 4:10Just as Adam recognized Eve as bone of my bones
- 4:15and flesh of my flesh, when he opened his eyes,
- 4:18I recognized my wife, not by sight, but by the
- 4:22Spirit. The Holy Spirit gently convinced my heart
- 4:26that she was the one. Isaiah says, Your ears
- 4:29will hear a word behind you saying, this is the
- 4:33way, walk in it. I believe God is a good father.
- 4:36He gives what is right because He knows us better
- 4:39than we know ourselves. Jesus said, If you, being
- 4:43evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
- 4:46how much more will your Father in heaven give
- 4:49good things to those who ask Him? Not only did
- 4:51God place her love in my heart, He revealed that
- 4:54she was the best match for me with strengths
- 4:57I didn't even know I would need until the hard
- 4:59times came. My pastor Lawson Whitson often says,
- 5:04We even need the Holy Spirit to go to Walmart.
- 5:07It sounds simple, but it's profound and true.
- 5:11The Holy Spirit is our daily companion. So when
- 5:14I say my wife and I are filled with the Holy
- 5:18Spirit, it isn't a slogan. It's a declaration
- 5:21of dependence, because I started with God, because
- 5:25I built on his foundation, because I followed
- 5:27his direction. When the storms came, when the
- 5:30winds blew, the floods rose, and the rains beat
- 5:33against our marriage, our house did not fall.
- 5:36It stood, because it was built on the rock. Looking
- 5:39back now, years later, I realize my father wasn't
- 5:42just describing marriage. He was describing faith
- 5:45itself. A marriage built by God, not by hands.
- 5:49And I can see it clearly now. It was God all
- 5:52along. I will not leave you as orphans. I will
- 6:00send you another comforter, the Holy Spirit.
- 6:03And you promised, in the last days I will pour
- 6:06out my spirit on all flesh. So pour out your
- 6:09spirit on us, Lord. Fill us with your power.
- 6:12Teach us to be guided by the Holy Spirit in every
- 6:15decision we make, because one thing is certain,
- 6:18the blessing of the Lord enriches and adds no
- 6:21painful toil with it. Next time on Pomoja, we'll
- 6:25explore the deeper secrets of the house in the
- 6:27middle of the forest, where sealed windows, locked
- 6:30doors, and warm air reveal the true meaning of
- 6:34covenant and commitment. Thank you for joining
