- 0:14SPEAKER_09: Maximum Higgins.
- 0:16SPEAKER_09: Actually, before we launch into the episode, here we fucking go.
- 0:19SPEAKER_09: Hello, everyone for starters.
- 0:22SPEAKER_09: Everyone we met at Big Sound last week, did you notice was calling you Maxwell?
- 0:27SPEAKER_08: Because I keep calling you Maxwell on the show.
- 0:30SPEAKER_08: For people who don't know, I that I mean that is my full name.
- 0:34SPEAKER_08: But I almost never go by it.
- 0:36SPEAKER_08: There's apart from Sam, no one else really calls me Maxwell at all ever.
- 0:41SPEAKER_08: Um they do now.
- 0:42SPEAKER_08: They do now.
- 0:43SPEAKER_08: I've never heard my full name used so often.
- 0:45SPEAKER_08: But I feel like you call me like you call me Samuel as well.
- 0:48SPEAKER_09: Oh, you get Sambo, I think, from me more than Samuel.
- 0:50SPEAKER_09: Sambo, Samwell.
- 0:52SPEAKER_09: Um, and I'm like, I don't cop that because everyone knows that's not my name.
- 0:58SPEAKER_09: But they I what are you the fucking ting tanks?
- 1:00SPEAKER_09: Well, no, they go, oh Maxwell.
- 1:02SPEAKER_09: He could go by Maxwell the same way Ben could go by Benjamin.
- 1:06SPEAKER_09: Could you know?
- 1:07SPEAKER_09: Could so shout out everyone that called Max Maxwell.
- 1:12SPEAKER_09: Oh, this is Sam and Maxwell from What Clarify.
- 1:16SPEAKER_08: If you meet me in the street, Max is fine.
- 1:18SPEAKER_08: Max will we'll cut it.
- 1:19SPEAKER_08: That's all you need.
- 1:20SPEAKER_08: Mr.
- 1:21SPEAKER_08: Higgins to you.
- 1:23SPEAKER_09: Oh, how'd you recover after a monstrous week?
- 1:25SPEAKER_08: I mean, my social battery was um at all time lows, Sam.
- 1:29SPEAKER_08: It was Di Maria Count Me In, I'll tell you that much for free.
- 1:31SPEAKER_09: Or John Bellion.
- 1:33SPEAKER_09: Uh, how did you pull up?
- 1:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, much to Sam.
- 1:36SPEAKER_09: I was pretty non-verbal on Friday.
- 1:38SPEAKER_09: Um and then, yeah, very, very quiet weekend doing not a lot.
- 1:44SPEAKER_09: But no one cares about my weekend, Maxwell.
- 1:45SPEAKER_09: They care.
- 1:46SPEAKER_08: Well, I mean, we'll get it to a bit more big sound chat soon.
- 1:49SPEAKER_08: We will.
- 1:49SPEAKER_08: Um, but before we get too far into the episode, Sam, this is episode 250.
- 1:56SPEAKER_08: Well done, Ars.
- 1:58SPEAKER_08: Where are the sound effects?
- 1:59SPEAKER_08: No one cares.
- 2:00SPEAKER_08: What's that do?
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: Um, I don't know, but let's leave that.
- 2:03SPEAKER_08: And um whatever.
- 2:06SPEAKER_08: The uh yeah, so I think for everyone, for anyone who's ever wondered about the weirdness of our numbering system, why they're it's so fucking weird.
- 2:14SPEAKER_08: It's not our numbering system, it's your numbering system.
- 2:17SPEAKER_08: Well, it used to be our numbering.
- 2:19SPEAKER_08: So what the way it works is we used to do one big episode every week, which was all the stuff.
- 2:24SPEAKER_08: So we do new music, we do news and tours, we'd do reviews, we'd do an artist interview, it went for like two hours, and we're like, this is too much to try and edit all in one.
- 2:33SPEAKER_08: So we stopped doing that and we broke them out into three episodes across the week.
- 2:37SPEAKER_08: And the thing is, to make it work with how the old system worked, but which was once per week, we out now have to give basically each week is one episode in my brain.
- 2:46SPEAKER_08: So they all work as one episode together.
- 2:48SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 2:49SPEAKER_08: So that's the numbering system.
- 2:50SPEAKER_08: So if you're ever like, why are all these episodes the same number?
- 2:54SPEAKER_08: It's because it's in the same week, and the week goes Wednesday to Tuesday.
- 2:57SPEAKER_08: Because vinyl club lands on a Monday.
- 3:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 3:01SPEAKER_08: Very fucking stupid.
- 3:02SPEAKER_08: I'm glad that made sense.
- 3:03SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_08: But anyway, this is the 250th week that we've put out an episode.
- 3:08SPEAKER_09: And I should also say, I get a lot of questions, I don't know about you, but like, what does 78 amped mean?
- 3:13SPEAKER_09: So once and for all, should we just put on the record?
- 3:15SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 3:15SPEAKER_09: Do you want to do you want to tell that story?
- 3:17SPEAKER_09: Well, initially we came up with amped like most music people do.
- 3:21SPEAKER_09: And we're like, yeah, that's cool, but probably good for a brand, like a shortened branding sort of name.
- 3:27SPEAKER_09: But everybody has that name.
- 3:29SPEAKER_09: Everyone has that name.
- 3:30SPEAKER_09: So Max goes, what about 7878?
- 3:32SPEAKER_09: And I was like, what does that mean?
- 3:33SPEAKER_08: And then you said uh before, well, like when records were first invented, they spun at 78 RPM, which is before they then brought them to 33 for long plays and 45 for singles.
- 3:44SPEAKER_08: So just a real throwback to how we like records.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: There you go.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_09: But only old records, only old records, and don't ask me, because I just everyone that asks me, I go, I don't know.
- 3:53SPEAKER_09: Max came up.
- 3:54SPEAKER_09: Some record shit.
- 3:55SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 3:55SPEAKER_09: Some fucking technical bosses.
- 3:57SPEAKER_09: I think it's like they used to spin at 78, 78 like revolutions per minute.
- 4:02SPEAKER_09: I think.
- 4:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:03SPEAKER_09: Don't quote me on it.
- 4:04SPEAKER_09: And they're like, oh, okay, that's interesting.
- 4:06SPEAKER_09: I know.
- 4:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:08SPEAKER_09: Good SEO option, though.
- 4:09SPEAKER_09: Great SEO option.
- 4:10SPEAKER_09: 78.
- 4:11SPEAKER_09: Bang.
- 4:12SPEAKER_09: The people they fucking love it.
- 4:13SPEAKER_09: I like if we weren't 67.
- 4:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, because then we'd be hell, yeah.
- 4:17SPEAKER_09: Um, or as some people, friends of the show continuously call us 75 amps.
- 4:24SPEAKER_09: I've had all sorts of numbers.
- 4:25SPEAKER_09: 43 amped.
- 4:27SPEAKER_09: 43?
- 4:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:29SPEAKER_09: 78 just I don't know.
- 4:31SPEAKER_09: It's interesting.
- 4:32SPEAKER_09: Good fed.
- 4:33SPEAKER_09: It works as like it's not, it's not the double number.
- 4:35SPEAKER_09: I think that's a bit too self-indulgent, you know.
- 4:37SPEAKER_09: And we're not metal enough to be like six, six, six.
- 4:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, no.
- 4:41SPEAKER_08: And we're not hot enough to be 69 amped.
- 4:43SPEAKER_08: So dinner for two.
- 4:45SPEAKER_08: Let's dive into something new, Max.
- 4:47SPEAKER_08: Let's get stuck in, hey.
- 4:48SPEAKER_08: Fresh, some fresh new tunes, Sam.
- 4:50SPEAKER_08: And I'll tell you what, my little fridge, full of freshly caught tuners, Sam.
- 4:54SPEAKER_08: A couple of John West.
- 4:55SPEAKER_08: A couple of John West.
- 4:56SPEAKER_08: And it's you know what?
- 4:57SPEAKER_08: It's the tunes that John West rejects that makes John West the best, mate.
- 5:00SPEAKER_08: We are not sponsored by John West.
- 5:02SPEAKER_08: No, I don't even eat tin tuna.
- 5:03SPEAKER_08: Or salmon or any kind of tin fish, really, at all.
- 5:06SPEAKER_04: Who cares?
- 5:07SPEAKER_08: It's money if you must know.
- 5:09SPEAKER_08: I know a lot of people were asking, everyone around a big sound.
- 5:12SPEAKER_08: What's your preferred type of tin fish?
- 5:13SPEAKER_08: Mate, I don't.
- 5:15SPEAKER_09: I actually eat a lot of tin fish.
- 5:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah, look.
- 5:18SPEAKER_09: Tin tuna, like, it's just my it's my everyday lunch.
- 5:21SPEAKER_09: Chili tuna, Serena.
- 5:24SPEAKER_09: Alright, leave her out of it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_09: S-I.
- 5:27SPEAKER_09: Uh-huh.
- 5:27SPEAKER_09: Leave them out of it.
- 5:29SPEAKER_09: Gangnam style reference for everyone playing along at home.
- 5:33SPEAKER_08: Oh, what have you got?
- 5:35SPEAKER_08: Let's get straight let's get straight into it, Sam.
- 5:36SPEAKER_08: Uh, my first song from a a local band here in Brizzy, it's Porn Star Supercar, is the band.
- 5:41SPEAKER_08: Uh, and their new song Clem Fandango.
- 5:44SPEAKER_09: Uh, yes, from Kat played with in the uh in the skipper, Brisbane Lions Skipper.
- 5:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_09: Um, also Clem Fandango, for those that don't know, insane pool.
- 5:54SPEAKER_09: Great reference.
- 5:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:56SPEAKER_09: For those that know Toast of London.
- 5:57SPEAKER_09: Who the fuck are you, Clem?
- 6:01SPEAKER_09: Honestly, Matt Berry can do no wrong.
- 6:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:03SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 6:04SPEAKER_08: What do you mean?
- 6:05SPEAKER_08: Look, there's he's had a couple of roles where I'm like, could have left that one now.
- 6:08SPEAKER_08: Toast of London's very niche.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: It is niche.
- 6:11SPEAKER_08: The um the his role in Fallout as like all the robots, good at the beginning.
- 6:16SPEAKER_08: I was like, that's quite funny.
- 6:18SPEAKER_08: But now I'm like this much.
- 6:20SPEAKER_08: I'm I wish he just had a different role, like as a as a as a character.
- 6:23SPEAKER_08: But anyway, let's not get into it.
- 6:24SPEAKER_09: What we do in the he's got a what we do in the shadows, incorrect.
- 6:27SPEAKER_09: What we do in the shadows, yeah.
- 6:28SPEAKER_09: IT crowd, yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 6:30SPEAKER_08: Uh Toast of London.
- 6:32SPEAKER_08: The one that I can never remember the name of um that was before IT crowd, where it's like uh shot a schlock horror film thing.
- 6:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 6:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:40SPEAKER_09: He's done a lot, like down pedoscope.
- 6:44SPEAKER_09: Shout out Clem Fandango.
- 6:46SPEAKER_09: Have you ever watched Danger Five?
- 6:47SPEAKER_09: I think you'd like Danger Five.
- 6:48SPEAKER_09: No, I haven't.
- 6:49SPEAKER_08: Alright, this is your listeners who just wondered why I stopped talking.
- 6:54SPEAKER_08: Sam bashed his glass of water against his teeth and he was really in pain for a second there.
- 6:57SPEAKER_08: This is your homework for this week.
- 6:58SPEAKER_08: Go, it's six episodes long.
- 7:00SPEAKER_08: It was from like 2012 on SBS.
- 7:02SPEAKER_08: It's called Danger Five.
- 7:03SPEAKER_08: It's fan fucking tastic.
- 7:04SPEAKER_08: Just the first season, that's all you need to watch.
- 7:06SPEAKER_09: Hi to the Danger Five.
- 7:09SPEAKER_08: Grand.
- 7:10SPEAKER_08: Well, anyway, Sam, my first song this week is from Porn Star Supercar.
- 7:15SPEAKER_08: It is Clem Fandango.
- 7:17SPEAKER_08: Uh, think somewhere between like bad dreams, uh, is that kind of like Aussie Punk sound and like something early 2000s power pop is how I'd probably describe this song.
- 7:26SPEAKER_08: Um, Indie Punk, here in Brizzy.
- 7:28SPEAKER_08: Shout out to the band.
- 7:29SPEAKER_08: Shout out to the song.
- 7:31SPEAKER_08: Wrap your fucking wrap your earbuds around this, mate.
- 7:57SPEAKER_09: Rugby 08 would have gone hard with that sort of thing.
- 7:59SPEAKER_08: Oh, absolutely.
- 7:59SPEAKER_08: But a giant lomo rugby?
- 8:01SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's old school.
- 8:03SPEAKER_09: I was a rugby 06 man, as you know.
- 8:05SPEAKER_09: Also, shout out MX vs A TV Unleashed.
- 8:07SPEAKER_08: Someone is really getting to their PlayStation 2, aren't they?
- 8:10SPEAKER_08: Me?
- 8:10SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 8:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 8:11SPEAKER_09: Well, I got all the games out of storage the other day, so and I told you before, I went to um CEX or Sec I don't know.
- 8:20SPEAKER_09: CEX is definitely what they're called.
- 8:23SPEAKER_09: Um Video Game Exchange and bought like a bunch of PS2 games.
- 8:27SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 8:28SPEAKER_09: Where is where is it?
- 8:30SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's just like a Brisbane store.
- 8:32SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 8:32SPEAKER_09: Um I bought what did I buy?
- 8:36SPEAKER_09: Simpsons Hidden Run.
- 8:37SPEAKER_09: No, better.
- 8:39SPEAKER_09: Revenge of the Sith on PS2.
- 8:42SPEAKER_09: If you know, you know.
- 8:44SPEAKER_08: IYKYK.
- 8:45SPEAKER_09: IYKYK.
- 8:47SPEAKER_09: Maxwell, it's a good week for breakdowns.
- 8:50SPEAKER_09: Mentibees, bit of emotional breakdown, Sam.
- 8:52SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 8:53SPEAKER_09: Uh Movements dropped an album.
- 8:55SPEAKER_09: There's been that much new music in general that we're gonna get to today, but I'm gonna start with movements.
- 9:00SPEAKER_09: They dropped their new album, Happier Now.
- 9:03SPEAKER_09: This is the title track.
- 9:05SPEAKER_09: Um what's that one called?
- 9:07SPEAKER_09: Uh Happier Now.
- 9:09SPEAKER_09: And it combines a little bit of feel something nearer movements, as Pat in our interview.
- 9:14SPEAKER_09: If you haven't listened to our interview with Pat about the album, go listen to it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_09: Shameless plug, I love it.
- 9:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:20SPEAKER_09: Bit uncomfortable.
- 9:20SPEAKER_09: I was just gonna say I'm just talking about sands.
- 9:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, a bit uncomfortable when you first slide it in, but it stretches.
- 9:25SPEAKER_09: So did you sort of warm in your hand first?
- 9:27SPEAKER_09: No, straight out of the freezer.
- 9:28SPEAKER_09: You know what?
- 9:28SPEAKER_09: We've talked about it before.
- 9:30SPEAKER_09: That'll keep the that'll keep the ring stinging, won't it?
- 9:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, crisp.
- 9:33SPEAKER_09: But it makes you feel alive, like an ice bath.
- 9:35SPEAKER_09: It's an ice pot.
- 9:36SPEAKER_09: An ice bath.
- 9:37SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's good.
- 9:37SPEAKER_09: Thanks.
- 9:38SPEAKER_09: That's good.
- 9:38SPEAKER_09: Thanks.
- 9:39SPEAKER_09: Um, yeah, Pat said on the show that he, you know, feel something will always be a bit like kill yourself music.
- 9:46SPEAKER_09: He did.
- 9:46SPEAKER_09: Those were his words.
- 9:47SPEAKER_09: Those were his words.
- 9:49SPEAKER_09: And he wanted to blend that with the newer sort of pop rocky sound that they've got.
- 9:55SPEAKER_09: And I think they do it, although this song definitely makes you feel like you've just stepped into a therapy room.
- 10:01SPEAKER_09: This is happier now.
- 10:02SPEAKER_09: How does that make you feel?
- 10:31SPEAKER_09: Sam.
- 10:31SPEAKER_09: Vemo.
- 10:32SPEAKER_09: Vemo.
- 10:32SPEAKER_09: Not to be confused with vivo.
- 10:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah, well.
- 10:35SPEAKER_09: Didn't we learn about them this week?
- 10:37SPEAKER_09: We did.
- 10:38SPEAKER_09: And thank you to everyone that dropped us a comment.
- 10:40SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 10:41SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 10:41SPEAKER_09: Thanks for jumping in.
- 10:42SPEAKER_09: I didn't really read them.
- 10:43SPEAKER_09: Different to Bivo.
- 10:45SPEAKER_09: You know the rules.
- 10:46SPEAKER_09: Bivo.
- 10:47SPEAKER_08: What are you doing, man?
- 10:50SPEAKER_08: I've never seen someone who literally every single morsel of food looks like it's gonna kill them.
- 10:57unknown: Yeah.
- 10:58SPEAKER_09: And also, like, stay away from Bonnie Blue, man.
- 11:01SPEAKER_09: That's gross.
- 11:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, Bebo is fucking gross.
- 11:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it just it speaks volumes to the to both of them, I feel.
- 11:08SPEAKER_09: Also, have we have we figured out who Bonnie Blue's dad is yet?
- 11:11SPEAKER_09: Not dad.
- 11:12SPEAKER_09: Who her dad is.
- 11:12SPEAKER_09: Who Bonnie Blue is Mr.
- 11:14SPEAKER_09: Blue Dee.
- 11:15SPEAKER_09: Yo, listen up.
- 11:18SPEAKER_09: Um, have we figured out who the father of Bonnie Blue's child is yet?
- 11:22SPEAKER_09: I'm assuming it's Rufus Rice.
- 11:24SPEAKER_09: What's going on, Chaggers?
- 11:28SPEAKER_08: I'm here in the state of Gisrael right now.
- 11:31SPEAKER_08: Anyway.
- 11:32SPEAKER_08: Sam, uh, my next song.
- 11:33SPEAKER_08: Speaking about the boys, my next song is uh from a band called West Side Cowboy.
- 11:37SPEAKER_08: The song is called Kickstones, open parentheses, the boys, close parentheses.
- 11:40SPEAKER_08: Uh, this is very like slow-build, low energy banger.
- 11:45SPEAKER_08: If I could uh kind of that makes sense.
- 11:48SPEAKER_08: It's one of those songs that like kind of takes a while to kind of get together, but then when it does, it kind of turns in this kind of like messy groove that just like it feels like it shouldn't really be held together, but it kind of does just by like the general, like how everything's kind of layered.
- 11:59SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:00SPEAKER_08: Um, think like an indie rock meets like a surf kind of rock sound.
- 12:04SPEAKER_08: These guys are from the UK, they supported Geese on their tour over there.
- 12:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 12:08SPEAKER_08: I think they also won some kind of like unearthed, but for like Glastonbury a couple of years ago.
- 12:12SPEAKER_08: So, yeah, this is Kickstones The Boys by West Side Cowboy.
- 12:47SPEAKER_09: Bit of horn section, mate.
- 12:48SPEAKER_09: Horny for some trumpet.
- 12:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:51SPEAKER_09: Maxwell, another big album everyone's talking about is One Five Six Silence dropped uh from a distance their new album.
- 12:59SPEAKER_09: They're obviously making their Australian debut.
- 13:01SPEAKER_09: They dropped the album from a distance.
- 13:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_09: King's Cup shit.
- 13:06SPEAKER_09: Not King's Cup, fucking beer pong.
- 13:08SPEAKER_09: You're cutting off my camera.
- 13:09SPEAKER_09: Honestly, that's just fucked up.
- 13:11SPEAKER_09: Watch me not be in frame for the rest of this now.
- 13:13SPEAKER_05: Yay!
- 13:14SPEAKER_09: Um 156, obviously making their Australian debut in February with Boundaries and Throne.
- 13:21SPEAKER_09: Same day as Laneway for those listening.
- 13:23SPEAKER_09: So um from what we've heard, it's gonna be hard to get away from Laneway.
- 13:29SPEAKER_09: There's as a priority by the sounds of it, bit on.
- 13:32SPEAKER_09: But with an album like this, it's gonna be a a bit of Sophie's choice.
- 13:35SPEAKER_09: Um keep your ears peeled for it.
- 13:37SPEAKER_09: It'd be Sophie's choice if I can absolutely drop punt the medicine over the fence and go straight to laneway.
- 13:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah, literally.
- 13:43SPEAKER_09: I'm thinking, depending on the lane way sets, I'm just gonna fucking leg it.
- 13:46SPEAKER_09: Because it's showgrounds to the Tivoli.
- 13:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, down the road.
- 13:50SPEAKER_09: Could work.
- 13:50SPEAKER_09: Could.
- 13:51SPEAKER_09: Will I miss 156?
- 13:52SPEAKER_09: Probably.
- 13:53SPEAKER_09: You probably will.
- 13:53SPEAKER_09: But but I might make throne.
- 13:55SPEAKER_09: You might do it.
- 13:56SPEAKER_09: I probably won't.
- 13:57SPEAKER_09: Anyway, this is Phoenix Dies.
- 13:59SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 14:00SPEAKER_09: Fucking spoilers.
- 14:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:01SPEAKER_09: Order of the.
- 14:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_09: That's just the middle of the song.
- 14:31SPEAKER_09: And we wonder why the microphones broke.
- 14:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 14:33SPEAKER_09: Whoopsies.
- 14:34SPEAKER_09: Shout out.
- 14:36SPEAKER_09: Non-specific brand name because we're looking for a microphone sponsor.
- 14:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, if you own um road mics.
- 14:44SPEAKER_09: If you're uh Rodin Kelly, I guess that guy's name is.
- 14:47SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 14:48SPEAKER_09: Did you see his clip on Triple J him saying ball as long as he could about the footy?
- 14:53SPEAKER_09: Actually, I do I do think I saw that now that you bring it up.
- 14:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was fucking not bad.
- 14:57SPEAKER_09: We topped the comment section on that that video.
- 15:00SPEAKER_09: I was quite proud of us.
- 15:01SPEAKER_09: I said, He's been doing it all day, sir.
- 15:05SPEAKER_09: That one always goes off.
- 15:06SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's good.
- 15:07SPEAKER_09: For those that haven't watched, go watch Braden Kelly yell ball for 19 seconds.
- 15:11SPEAKER_09: That's not bad.
- 15:12SPEAKER_09: Longest yeah ball ever.
- 15:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 15:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 15:14SPEAKER_09: Anyway, get to your next song.
- 15:16SPEAKER_08: Sam, my next song by uh More Friends of the Show.
- 15:19SPEAKER_08: It's Bugs.
- 15:21SPEAKER_08: Fucking hell.
- 15:22SPEAKER_08: So their new album, Head Noise, uh, has dropped for very obvious reasons that we've talked about on the show.
- 15:27SPEAKER_08: It's pretty heavy.
- 15:28SPEAKER_08: There's a lot going on in that record that is just pulling at your heart springs.
- 15:31SPEAKER_08: And I would highly encourage anyone who hasn't yet to go have a listen.
- 15:35SPEAKER_08: It's a very, very good record.
- 15:36SPEAKER_08: Obviously, um, you know, it's everything's through the lens, or not everything, but a lot of things are through the lens of like the that pain and that loss and that grief that the band are obviously going through.
- 15:44SPEAKER_08: But they still have a lot of these really fun bugs, upbeat, catchy, bright moments, which is very cool because it's just that's who they are as a band.
- 15:51SPEAKER_08: Like everything is through that lens.
- 15:54SPEAKER_08: And um one of the this is one of the songs that's more on more of the fun, upbeat, silly end, even though it is about something quite serious.
- 16:00SPEAKER_08: The song is called Andrew Tate.
- 16:01SPEAKER_08: You'll never guess what it's about.
- 16:03SPEAKER_08: Um, and basically it's just about how the internet is uh full of people being shot.
- 16:09SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's three, that's true.
- 16:10SPEAKER_08: What's the Manosphere one?
- 16:14SPEAKER_08: Uh but um it the the way that bugs have done this is it's so bright and catchy and pop punky and it's very bugs, you know what I mean?
- 16:21SPEAKER_08: Even though it's tackling just how much of a shit Andrew Tate is.
- 16:24SPEAKER_08: So yeah.
- 16:25SPEAKER_08: Um this is this is Andrew Tate by bugs.
- 16:56SPEAKER_08: Connor's girls have a cool voice.
- 16:57SPEAKER_08: Fucking eh.
- 16:58SPEAKER_08: And shout out to the the baseline that Jordan's laying down there is fucking it's gone off.
- 17:02SPEAKER_08: Line it down.
- 17:04SPEAKER_08: I feel like they sound a bit like Jet vocally.
- 17:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I can I can kind of know what you're saying.
- 17:09SPEAKER_08: When in that when Jet do the real high, like belting part.
- 17:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:15SPEAKER_09: Not bad.
- 17:17SPEAKER_09: Uh my last one Wag War.
- 17:20SPEAKER_09: Oh, yes, the Union's band.
- 17:21SPEAKER_09: Y J War.
- 17:22SPEAKER_09: Why J War.
- 17:23SPEAKER_09: They dropped a song called Land Fall and also announced an album.
- 17:27SPEAKER_09: Ooh.
- 17:29SPEAKER_09: Ooh.
- 17:30SPEAKER_09: Tell me more about that.
- 17:32SPEAKER_09: Why don't we let the band tell us about that soon, Maxwell?
- 17:36SPEAKER_09: Um, yes, we did catch up.
- 17:40SPEAKER_08: In case you're wondering, yes, we did talk to them.
- 17:43SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 17:44SPEAKER_09: The people have asked, and we're answering.
- 17:46SPEAKER_09: Yes, we did talk to Wage War about said album.
- 17:51SPEAKER_09: Uh, and this is the title track, Landfall, and it's fucking heavy.
- 17:56SPEAKER_09: Bit on.
- 17:57SPEAKER_09: Bit on.
- 17:57SPEAKER_09: Someone's gonna play the breakdown.
- 17:59SPEAKER_09: Break it down for us, ma'am.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Oh god, it's taking state.
- 18:33SPEAKER_08: Hell myself.
- 18:34SPEAKER_08: Big dog coming in too early, as per might I fucking add.
- 18:39SPEAKER_08: This never happens.
- 18:40SPEAKER_08: Oh no, it's just because you're so hot, bro.
- 18:43SPEAKER_08: Brighton I swear.
- 18:44SPEAKER_08: Oh Britain, sorry.
- 18:47SPEAKER_08: Maxwell, let's dive into the news.
- 18:49SPEAKER_08: And this piece of news dropped just before we started recording.
- 18:53SPEAKER_08: I'll tell you what, hefty.
- 18:55SPEAKER_08: Maybe if you like this band, quite hefty.
- 18:57SPEAKER_09: With a number of oh, with the number of shows.
- 18:59SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 18:59SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_09: That is right, Maxwell, because Radio Head over here, Tom.
- 19:04SPEAKER_09: Radiohead just announced an Australian tour in 2027.
- 19:09SPEAKER_09: 16 Australian shows.
- 19:12SPEAKER_09: So many shows.
- 19:12SPEAKER_09: But get this, they're only going to three cities.
- 19:16SPEAKER_09: Do you want to tell the people which three cities they're going to?
- 19:18SPEAKER_09: Not Brisbane.
- 19:20SPEAKER_09: Uh they're playing Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
- 19:25SPEAKER_09: I should probably give you the order.
- 19:26SPEAKER_09: It's Perth.
- 19:28SPEAKER_09: Perth from May 3rd to the 7th.
- 19:31SPEAKER_09: And then they're playing Melbourne 13th to 20th.
- 19:34SPEAKER_09: And then Sydney 25th to 31st.
- 19:37SPEAKER_09: So they're in Melbourne.
- 19:38SPEAKER_09: Oh, sorry, in Australia all of May.
- 19:41SPEAKER_09: They're in here.
- 19:41SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah, all of May, a little bit on either side.
- 19:44SPEAKER_08: It's just fucking big numbers from them.
- 19:47SPEAKER_08: You when this dropped, you were like, why the fuck are they playing Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne?
- 19:52SPEAKER_08: And I said, I think that's annoyingly for someone in Brisbane.
- 19:55SPEAKER_08: Annoyingly, I think that is the best combination of cities in Australia to play if you're only going to play those.
- 20:00SPEAKER_08: If you're only going to play three.
- 20:04SPEAKER_08: People on the West Coast don't have to trek five hours across the country to see something.
- 20:07SPEAKER_08: I appreciate that for them.
- 20:09SPEAKER_08: It's the it's the it's the place, it's the places where the most number of people have the shortest flights to get to.
- 20:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I get it.
- 20:15SPEAKER_09: Like once you explain it like that, I was like, okay, fair enough.
- 20:18SPEAKER_09: But um still, it's an enormous amount of shows.
- 20:22SPEAKER_08: It's a ridiculous amount of shows.
- 20:24SPEAKER_08: I can't think of some like an international doing that many shows, maybe since Pink.
- 20:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and you theorize that maybe they'll do different nights, like themed nights.
- 20:34SPEAKER_09: They might do Okay Computer, they might do In Rainbows, they might play a couple of they might mix a couple of albums like Moonshape Pool and stuff, but yeah.
- 20:42SPEAKER_09: Um it'll be interesting.
- 20:44SPEAKER_09: I'm kind of tempted.
- 20:46SPEAKER_08: I look, if if you've been a longtime ant listener, first of all, you are one person.
- 20:51SPEAKER_08: Thanks, Mum.
- 20:52SPEAKER_08: But it's not my mum.
- 20:54SPEAKER_08: If you've if you're a long time listener, you know that we've gone on quite the journey with Radiohead here.
- 20:58SPEAKER_08: We have.
- 20:59SPEAKER_08: Um we started out being, I would say, Radiohead haters.
- 21:02SPEAKER_08: We went viral very early for saying Radiohead was shit.
- 21:06SPEAKER_08: Then we kind of came around to a couple of songs.
- 21:09SPEAKER_08: And I'd say we're almost, I'm not gonna well, I'm not gonna say we're Radiohead fans at this point, but I think we're Radiohead appreciators.
- 21:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think yeah, respecters.
- 21:18SPEAKER_09: I wouldn't say I'm a Radiohead fan.
- 21:21SPEAKER_09: I bought in Rainbows on uh vinyl because All I Need was a really good song.
- 21:31SPEAKER_09: Was that off the back of the conversation we had with um Honey?
- 21:35SPEAKER_09: Uh I went into them a little bit after that, but not quite.
- 21:38SPEAKER_09: I think I was watching The Bear.
- 21:40SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, okay.
- 21:40SPEAKER_09: And then Let Down was on there.
- 21:43SPEAKER_09: And I didn't realize Radio.
- 21:44SPEAKER_09: I thought Radiohead was very experimental.
- 21:46SPEAKER_09: I didn't think they were atmospheric and like beautiful.
- 21:50SPEAKER_09: Because from you know, my perspective, which was clearly under a rock, they had like creep and then they had Okay computer.
- 22:00SPEAKER_09: Okay, computer.
- 22:01SPEAKER_09: And then they had you know, put everything in its right place, which is a bit weird and it's a bit experimental.
- 22:07SPEAKER_09: So I was like, oh, it's just not for me.
- 22:09SPEAKER_09: But then all I need, like that bridge piano section all the time.
- 22:15SPEAKER_08: I think my experience with Radiohead is I just like Coldplay is the accessible version of Radiohead, and I appreciate that because I'm a little pop girly at my heart.
- 22:26SPEAKER_08: And I think I respect them for they obviously I don't know what choir we're preaching to here, but like obviously I respect their musicianship, they're incredible musicians.
- 22:36SPEAKER_08: Um I just don't necessarily know if I enjoy listening to a Radiohead track album or whatever, yeah.
- 22:43SPEAKER_08: Um, and the people will come at us.
- 22:46SPEAKER_09: Um also coming back, yeah.
- 22:50SPEAKER_09: Violent Soho.
- 22:52SPEAKER_09: So those shows have crept up on us majorly.
- 22:56SPEAKER_09: Their tour is in a time of release, about three weeks.
- 23:00SPEAKER_09: And they, for those outside of Queensland, they did a warm-up show at the Mansfield Tavern the historic rock arena at the Mansfield Tavern scene.
- 23:09SPEAKER_09: Where no one ever goes to a show apart from a Soho show.
- 23:15SPEAKER_09: And shout out the 4122 crew.
- 23:18SPEAKER_09: But essentially, in order to get one of these limited tickets, you had to physically line up at a number of different record stores, which was really cool.
- 23:26SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 23:27SPEAKER_09: Um and the lines were enormous.
- 23:29SPEAKER_09: Round the block.
- 23:30SPEAKER_09: Round the block.
- 23:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:32SPEAKER_09: Have you ever ever felt like this?
- 23:36SPEAKER_09: When you go in round the block.
- 23:38SPEAKER_09: This week on The Twist.
- 23:41SPEAKER_09: It's seven of block blockheads.
- 23:42SPEAKER_09: It's seven of twist block nuts.
- 23:45SPEAKER_09: It's bathroom week.
- 23:46SPEAKER_09: I love what they've done with the interior.
- 23:49SPEAKER_08: Oh, what a nice tile.
- 23:51SPEAKER_08: Darren thinks that the shower looks fucked.
- 23:54SPEAKER_08: I just think that the shower doesn't work.
- 23:56SPEAKER_09: It looks fucked.
- 23:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 23:58SPEAKER_09: And then who's the young one?
- 24:00SPEAKER_09: Oh, that is Darren.
- 24:00SPEAKER_09: There's two Darren.
- 24:01SPEAKER_09: There's Darren and fuck.
- 24:03SPEAKER_09: No, there's two Darens.
- 24:04SPEAKER_09: Is there two Darren?
- 24:04SPEAKER_09: I think there's two Darren.
- 24:05SPEAKER_09: Double Daz.
- 24:06SPEAKER_09: The bald one and the young one.
- 24:07SPEAKER_09: My double dog dazzia.
- 24:08SPEAKER_09: And then there's obviously the queen herself.
- 24:10SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 24:11SPEAKER_09: Shayna.
- 24:12SPEAKER_09: Shayna Blaze.
- 24:13SPEAKER_09: She'd make a good stepmum, I feel.
- 24:16unknown: No.
- 24:16SPEAKER_09: Do with that what you want, people.
- 24:18SPEAKER_09: Not in that way.
- 24:18SPEAKER_09: I just mean like she doesn't give mum vibes.
- 24:20SPEAKER_09: She gives more.
- 24:20SPEAKER_09: Shayna was inspecting the laundry, brother.
- 24:22SPEAKER_09: So I'm maybe got herself a little stuck.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: Oh no.
- 24:26SPEAKER_09: Reverse!
- 24:27SPEAKER_08: Um anyway, I wanted to.
- 24:28SPEAKER_08: That's what you're saying.
- 24:29SPEAKER_09: No, it's not.
- 24:30SPEAKER_09: Oh, shut up.
- 24:33SPEAKER_08: Anyway, anyway.
- 24:35SPEAKER_09: I wanted to just.
- 24:36SPEAKER_08: Speaking of holes that have been filled, Sam.
- 24:37SPEAKER_08: Farnside hold back.
- 24:38SPEAKER_09: They are.
- 24:39SPEAKER_09: And I just wanted to quickly have a look at the set list that they pulled out.
- 24:43SPEAKER_09: Um don't.
- 24:45SPEAKER_09: But there were a few notable omissions.
- 24:48SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 24:49SPEAKER_09: So they played the hits Jesus Stole My Girlfriend Covered in Chrome, like Soda.
- 24:53SPEAKER_09: They went into Dope Calypso, uh, OK Cathedral in the aisle.
- 24:58SPEAKER_09: Both there.
- 24:59SPEAKER_09: Some uh Hungry Ghost.
- 25:00SPEAKER_09: Two Sam Faves.
- 25:02SPEAKER_09: Uh OK Cathedral, not in the aisle.
- 25:05SPEAKER_09: But a couple of notable they didn't play a heap from Waco.
- 25:10SPEAKER_09: They didn't they played a few from the newer album, but then they finished with Tinderbox.
- 25:14SPEAKER_08: Which underrated absolute banger from Vonzo.
- 25:17SPEAKER_08: They didn't used to play it a heap.
- 25:19SPEAKER_08: Um, it was part of a I think it was an A-side B side with Neighbor Neighbor between the uh I can't remember the name of the is the album Jesus Told My Girlfriend?
- 25:27SPEAKER_08: Is that in the album?
- 25:28SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 25:29SPEAKER_08: Uh and um Hungry Ghost.
- 25:31SPEAKER_08: There was like an A-side B side in there.
- 25:32SPEAKER_08: And Neighbor Neighbor by far is the better song.
- 25:34SPEAKER_08: But Tinderbox also quite good.
- 25:36SPEAKER_09: So it's interesting that they've Yeah, there's a couple of others that are in there, like Canada, kamikaze, how to taste.
- 25:42SPEAKER_09: Um but could be an insight into the shows.
- 25:46SPEAKER_09: Could well be.
- 25:48SPEAKER_09: And then last but not least, Maxwell, let's just chat Big Sound quickly, shall we?
- 25:52SPEAKER_09: Big Sound, Sam like Big Week, because that's what we had.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: Big Sound, more like Big Week, ever odd.
- 25:59SPEAKER_08: Got him.
- 25:59SPEAKER_08: Uh it was, I'll be honest, it was a fucking hefty week.
- 26:02SPEAKER_08: That was fucking enormous.
- 26:03SPEAKER_08: And before we dive into the music, before we dive into the conference stuff, if you are one of the many people who came up and said hello to us at Big Sound, thank you so much.
- 26:12SPEAKER_08: You are all lovely.
- 26:12SPEAKER_08: Everyone we met was fantastic and cool and gave us excellent tips on who to see uh at from from the the different festivals and stuff.
- 26:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah, everyone who came and saw us well said hello on the street or whatever.
- 26:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah lovely.
- 26:26SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 26:26SPEAKER_08: It was lovely to meet you all.
- 26:27SPEAKER_09: It was really cool.
- 26:28SPEAKER_09: Um, it probably for the first time ever, I feel it made me probably realize that people actually do listen to this show.
- 26:37SPEAKER_09: Which is scary, which is terrifying.
- 26:38SPEAKER_09: I love to just talk into the void.
- 26:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's where genuinely, and we're not making this up, we genuinely record this thinking no one's listening.
- 26:47SPEAKER_09: And this bit's just for fun.
- 26:49SPEAKER_09: That's okay, it's just a hobby we have because we enjoy music, but it was really humbling and flattering to meet so many people who are invested in what we do.
- 26:58SPEAKER_09: Um, so we're incredibly grateful, albeit incredibly awkward when that happens.
- 27:02SPEAKER_07: Yep, yep.
- 27:03SPEAKER_09: Um, but you know, it did make us feel very nice.
- 27:06SPEAKER_09: So thank you.
- 27:07SPEAKER_09: And we genuinely couldn't do it without each and every one of you listening.
- 27:10SPEAKER_09: So we love you all.
- 27:11SPEAKER_09: Very much so.
- 27:12SPEAKER_09: Um, I want to give a couple of quick shout-outs as well.
- 27:15SPEAKER_09: Get in.
- 27:16SPEAKER_09: There was for the first time ever at Big Town, I feel like there were a lot of upcoming creators.
- 27:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 27:21SPEAKER_09: Um, really strutting their stuff, um, which was so cool to see.
- 27:25SPEAKER_09: I feel like it's been a little while.
- 27:27SPEAKER_09: And in Brisbane, it's definitely quite a small little creator community.
- 27:31SPEAKER_09: But uh, I want to give a shout-out to Live the Gig.
- 27:36SPEAKER_09: I want to give a shout out to Amped Up Local, Breaking Through, we did a collab podcast with.
- 27:41SPEAKER_09: You can listen to that on both ours and their channels.
- 27:44SPEAKER_09: Ours will be out Saturday, by the way.
- 27:45SPEAKER_09: If you're like, where's it the one?
- 27:47SPEAKER_09: Saturday.
- 27:48SPEAKER_09: Uh Side Stage Music, uh, and just there were so many others that we met.
- 27:52SPEAKER_09: Um, just so many different creators that we met that were killing it.
- 27:58SPEAKER_09: And um, no matter what music you listen to, if you listen to any of those guys, um they are passionate, they're invested, and they talk about genres that in some way, shape, or form you'll be interested in.
- 28:11SPEAKER_09: So definitely keep your eyes peel for that Saturday interview or that podcast with Breaking Through because our boy Tyson says some of the most unhinged shit I've ever heard.
- 28:22SPEAKER_09: Hola, a whole bowler, apparently.
- 28:26SPEAKER_09: But um let's talk some highlights.
- 28:29SPEAKER_08: Let's talk highlights.
- 28:29SPEAKER_08: Do you want to open the the uh the batting or do you want me to take it from here?
- 28:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, I I can do it.
- 28:33SPEAKER_08: Uh call me Dave.
- 28:35SPEAKER_09: No, I don't want to be Dave Warner, I'd rather be Chris Rogers.
- 28:37SPEAKER_08: You'll be um Justin Langer, and I can be Matthew Hayden.
- 28:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's fine.
- 28:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:41SPEAKER_09: I'm not left-handed.
- 28:43SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but you're also not from Kingaroy.
- 28:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah, true, but neither are you.
- 28:46SPEAKER_09: I'm close enough.
- 28:47SPEAKER_09: Pad you are.
- 28:49SPEAKER_09: Um for those that don't know, for our international listers, Big Sound is a coming together of the entire Australian music industry in Brisbane where everyone just gets to connect, network, and then watch the best upcoming Australian bands play showcases, essentially.
- 29:05SPEAKER_09: Think South by Southwest.
- 29:07SPEAKER_09: South by South East Queens, I'd say.
- 29:08SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 29:09SPEAKER_09: So for me, uh Blinder, clear highlight, shout out to the those guys, they're all legends.
- 29:16SPEAKER_09: Listen in tomorrow.
- 29:19SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 29:19SPEAKER_09: We were their first ever interview, which blows my mind.
- 29:22SPEAKER_09: Incredibly humbling.
- 29:23SPEAKER_09: They're so lovely.
- 29:24SPEAKER_09: Shout out Blinder.
- 29:26SPEAKER_09: Um, just the nicest human beings in the world.
- 29:29SPEAKER_09: Um who else did I check out?
- 29:31SPEAKER_09: Indigo Blaze, I checked out uh Night Dive, I checked out uh Deep Faith, who I'm gonna leave for you to talk about because there's always one.
- 29:40SPEAKER_09: There's always one bird that's fucking sick.
- 29:43SPEAKER_09: And it was the last set of the week.
- 29:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 29:46SPEAKER_09: Um and then shout out Birdland and uh Poppy Reed as well.
- 29:51SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 29:51SPEAKER_09: We were obviously on a content panel.
- 29:53SPEAKER_09: It was great to meet both of them, Poppy Reed, especially a legend of Australian music media.
- 29:58SPEAKER_09: They say never meet your hero, Sam, but meeting Poppy Reed, hero and legend.
- 30:02SPEAKER_09: So nice.
- 30:02SPEAKER_09: Um, and genuinely passionate about what we did, which is baffling.
- 30:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:06SPEAKER_08: Speaking of people listening to us, what the fuck?
- 30:09SPEAKER_09: I don't, I don't know.
- 30:10SPEAKER_09: I'm don't I don't think she's gonna be listening to this, and rightly so, but yeah, but knew enough of our content to pretend.
- 30:15SPEAKER_08: She researched, which is crazy.
- 30:16SPEAKER_08: Thank you very much, Poppy.
- 30:17SPEAKER_08: Uh, some other bands I want to shout out that we saw.
- 30:19SPEAKER_08: Uh Win Big, who we also chatted with, they had uh a fucking absolutely hectic hardcore set when I saw them at O'Sculligan's.
- 30:26SPEAKER_08: Uh, any young mechanic uh we brought to the show, weird, interesting.
- 30:30SPEAKER_08: When I actually got to see how it played out live, I was like, this is actually fucking cool.
- 30:33SPEAKER_08: Very, like the way that it all kind of all the pieces interlocked, very cool.
- 30:37SPEAKER_08: Uh Divers, we also chatted with, they were fantastic.
- 30:40SPEAKER_08: The two bands that everyone we talked to shouted out as the ones they wanted to see, special features and public figures.
- 30:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 30:46SPEAKER_08: Bring absolutely like the most anticipated bands for like if we ran into someone on the street and said, Who are you going to see?
- 30:52SPEAKER_08: If they didn't say one of those two two bands, they were probably not saying anyone at all.
- 30:55SPEAKER_08: Special features, uh alumni of the Rocking Horses.
- 30:59SPEAKER_09: Two and Reckling Cup, yeah.
- 31:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, absolutely.
- 31:03SPEAKER_08: Uh also shout out to an unofficial big sound show when I went to Felony at uh the Quiver Sound Room.
- 31:09SPEAKER_08: First of all, the Quiver Sound Room, incredible venue.
- 31:11SPEAKER_08: They've just opened it up, really, really cool at the back of Quiver.
- 31:14SPEAKER_08: Um, kind of where, like underneath um the restauranty part of the zoo.
- 31:18SPEAKER_08: Oh, what's it now?
- 31:19SPEAKER_08: Crowbar.
- 31:20SPEAKER_08: Uh Felony packed that show out.
- 31:23SPEAKER_08: Um, and she's a fucking rock star.
- 31:25SPEAKER_08: She's gonna be killing it.
- 31:26SPEAKER_08: Um we've talked about it plenty on the show, but that set was amazing.
- 31:31SPEAKER_08: And then you mentioned it, set of the week, deep faith.
- 31:35SPEAKER_08: Um, literally the last set that we could go see.
- 31:37SPEAKER_08: It was like 11:30 on the Thursday night uh at uh the nightclub where I famously fell over and nearly broke my fucking leg.
- 31:43SPEAKER_08: Um shouldn't laugh.
- 31:45SPEAKER_08: You did really hurt yourself.
- 31:46SPEAKER_08: I couldn't walk for like three months after that.
- 31:48SPEAKER_08: Uh, but what a show.
- 31:51SPEAKER_08: So deep faith, we've brought them on the show a couple times.
- 31:53SPEAKER_08: Think something between like dance punk and like really hyper poppy EDM, kind of in that realm.
- 31:59SPEAKER_08: Um, there's two two musicians in the band, one kind of vocalist front man, one who does drumming, who's like live drums, but also synths and pads and almost DJing and production-y kind of things.
- 32:13SPEAKER_08: And the just the show was something else.
- 32:16SPEAKER_08: The the front man had a jacket that uh was smoking at one point, yeah, then um switched around to shooting lasers out of like their pockets and shit.
- 32:25SPEAKER_08: It was crazy.
- 32:26SPEAKER_08: Um the the shows were so high energy and dancy.
- 32:32SPEAKER_08: One of those sets where you just you go in not knowing what you're seeing and you come out going, what the fuck did I just see?
- 32:36SPEAKER_09: It was so cool, yeah.
- 32:38SPEAKER_09: Um, definitely the highlight of the the weekend or the week, sorry, the most surprising for sure.
- 32:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, just on that as well.
- 32:44SPEAKER_09: Quick shout out to Vintage Vene.
- 32:46SPEAKER_09: Finally saw them live.
- 32:47SPEAKER_09: Very, very cool.
- 32:48SPEAKER_09: Shout out to their manager, Sebastian.
- 32:50SPEAKER_09: What a legend.
- 32:51SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 32:52SPEAKER_09: And we finally met our friend of the show, Niche.
- 32:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_09: What a legend.
- 32:59SPEAKER_09: Obviously, I've been going on about how good her music is for a long time.
- 33:02SPEAKER_09: Just want to give Niche a plug.
- 33:04SPEAKER_09: Um such a genuine human and just incredible singer, incredible songwriter.
- 33:13SPEAKER_09: Um for those who are a fan, because there are a few people here that have jumped over on the niche train, and rightly so.
- 33:21SPEAKER_09: She has just announced a uh an EP launch show.
- 33:27SPEAKER_09: Uh the White Noise EP launch show on Sunday, November 1st at Junk Bar in New Farm.
- 33:31SPEAKER_09: Ooh.
- 33:32SPEAKER_09: I got us tickets.
- 33:33SPEAKER_09: Oh, there you go, thank you.
- 33:34SPEAKER_09: You'll be coming with me.
- 33:36SPEAKER_09: Well.
- 33:37SPEAKER_09: Um But yeah, it kicks off at 6 30.
- 33:39SPEAKER_09: Python supporting, so go to OzTix to sort that.
- 33:42SPEAKER_09: But shout out niche.
- 33:44SPEAKER_08: Uh obviously, Sam Big Sound is the future of music.
- 33:48SPEAKER_08: But if there was one takeaway, what did you learn about where the Australian or international music scenes are going from from Big Sound?
- 33:54SPEAKER_09: I think alternative is where it's going.
- 33:57SPEAKER_09: Honestly, like you look at the bands that were heavily prominent through the week.
- 34:02SPEAKER_09: You got special features, public figures, blind art, um, even Lady Hawk.
- 34:08SPEAKER_09: I couldn't get in to see Lady Hawk.
- 34:10SPEAKER_09: It was so busy, and she played the outdoor at Bright Side.
- 34:14SPEAKER_09: I genuinely couldn't get in.
- 34:15SPEAKER_09: It was like a Japanese train at peak hour.
- 34:18SPEAKER_09: And then my delirium came on, and I was ready, I was ready to relive my pit days because I was just like, that's the only way I'm gonna get in.
- 34:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:26SPEAKER_09: I didn't.
- 34:27SPEAKER_09: But um it seems alternative is the way to go.
- 34:30SPEAKER_09: Okay, and I think indie rock is blending grunge now, and then metal is blending shoe gaze, and all the bands that were really hyped had this cool combination of sounds, I feel.
- 34:44SPEAKER_09: Um Blinder, shoe gays, and like post-metalcore special features.
- 34:50SPEAKER_09: Indie meets grunge.
- 34:52SPEAKER_09: Um yeah, I think it's it's really cool.
- 34:55SPEAKER_09: Anything sort of at the the end of the spectrums, I feel, like at the extremities, yeah, seems to be where the appetite is in upcoming bands.
- 35:06SPEAKER_09: I don't know if that's gonna be the industry trend, but definitely seemed like anything with an edge was appealing.
- 35:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:13SPEAKER_09: What did you notice?
- 35:14SPEAKER_08: I think like to be fair, not dissimilar to what you just said, I think people I I want to focus on the live show part of it.
- 35:20SPEAKER_08: I think so many acts, whether they were a um, you know, a singer, songwriter, a band, a producer, or whatever, any kind of artist, have really gone, how can I deliver a show that gives my audience like essentially bang for bark?
- 35:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:38SPEAKER_08: Like we saw uh Ocosia and she had a DJ, she had two dancers, and they were like they were on the bright side outdoor stage, but they may have been may as well have been on the entertainment center stage.
- 35:47SPEAKER_08: Like they were tightly choreographed, they were like delivering this show, which was really cool.
- 35:52SPEAKER_08: Deep faith already, we talked about them, but like crazy what was going on there.
- 35:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_08: Blinder, they came fully out in the in the the sunglasses and the costumes, or not costumes, the outfits, you know what I mean?
- 36:01SPEAKER_08: Like everyone had a a production level that I think is so far above just like a band that plays show.
- 36:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 36:08SPEAKER_08: Like the Big Sound has always put brought together bands that do that, but so this year really felt like how do we make this feel like a production?
- 36:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah, identity and brand and um put togetherness is very on show.
- 36:26SPEAKER_09: I feel like the bands that played had a level of professionalism that they might not have had before.
- 36:32SPEAKER_09: Whereas Big Sound was typically like you watch these bands, you're like, they have potential, they're a bit raw, but they'll be good.
- 36:38SPEAKER_09: Whereas now it's like fuck, they're all ready to go.
- 36:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:41SPEAKER_09: Which is so cool.
- 36:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:43SPEAKER_09: Um, I think in general, since COVID, all the bands have had that.
- 36:47SPEAKER_09: You look at the bands that have blown up, and we heard about it on panels like Head Rec boomed because their marketing and their brand is so strong.
- 36:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 36:55SPEAKER_09: Um and I heard Connor on a panel talk about how they've approached every new release.
- 37:02SPEAKER_09: It's not just song and then hope for the best.
- 37:04SPEAKER_09: It's like the entire he said it's the entire sub.
- 37:09SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_09: He referred it to like subway or something.
- 37:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:12SPEAKER_09: You've got to have the salad, which is like the merch, and then you've got to have the vinyl, and then you've got to like there's a whole package now, which is sick.
- 37:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_08: I think more than ever bands know like they know that they're competing from before your dollar in a cost of living crisis, and they know how do I give someone that value?
- 37:29SPEAKER_08: And it's a it's a show that is a show, not just like playing some songs.
- 37:32SPEAKER_08: 100%.
- 37:33SPEAKER_08: It's merch and vinyl that's like well thought out and interesting, and you get something cool where you can go, like, I really support this band.
- 37:38SPEAKER_08: So yeah, I think the future of music at the moment is um the package.
- 37:43SPEAKER_09: It is the package.
- 37:44SPEAKER_09: The package deal, Sam.
- 37:46SPEAKER_09: Well, with that in mind, Maxwell, should we get to the suitcase?
- 37:49SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah, but I think our listeners have provided a bit of a suitcase today.
- 37:54SPEAKER_08: But yeah, let's get songs from the DMs, Maxwell.
- 37:56SPEAKER_08: These are songs that you, dear listener, have sent in.
- 37:59SPEAKER_08: And uh, we want to kind of find out what we should be listening to.
- 38:02SPEAKER_08: Uh, you know, bands that maybe we might not have heard of, bands that we might have heard of, but haven't yet dived into.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: You go first, Maxwell.
- 38:07SPEAKER_08: First one got sent in by Tori.
- 38:09SPEAKER_08: Shout out.
- 38:10SPEAKER_08: Uh, this song is called Darker Sooner.
- 38:13SPEAKER_08: It is by a band called Silent Wolf, but W V L F.
- 38:17SPEAKER_08: Kind of like industrial synthie dark wave kind of thing.
- 38:21SPEAKER_08: Um, I feel like this would be incredible if you were driving at night.
- 38:52SPEAKER_09: Brooding.
- 38:53SPEAKER_09: Brooding indeed, Sam.
- 38:55SPEAKER_09: Uh, mine, Maxwell, was I've deleted all the notes.
- 39:00SPEAKER_09: Um this one was sent in by the band Ghost Angels.
- 39:04SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 39:05SPEAKER_09: And this is like a heavy sort of shoegazed track.
- 39:08SPEAKER_09: It's called Leaving.
- 39:09SPEAKER_09: Very up most of our listeners' alleys now, because Why are you just typecasting the listeners now?
- 39:15SPEAKER_09: No, I'm not.
- 39:16SPEAKER_09: Everyone, scientifically, everyone has a different music taste.
- 39:20SPEAKER_09: It's true.
- 39:21SPEAKER_09: Statistically speaking.
- 39:22SPEAKER_09: Statistically speaking, no two brain chemistries are the same.
- 39:25SPEAKER_09: But as a collective, I feel like we all appreciate shoe gays, new gays, grunge gays, whatever you want to call it.
- 39:31SPEAKER_09: So this is Leaving by Ghost Angel.
- 39:34SPEAKER_09: Shout out to the band.
- 40:07SPEAKER_08: Thanks, Christians.
- 40:10SPEAKER_08: Duplessis.
- 40:11SPEAKER_08: Duplessis.
- 40:12SPEAKER_08: Uh Sam, next one uh is has also been sent in uh from the artist.
- 40:16SPEAKER_08: This is from Uni, uh, who also played a big sound, but unfortunately I didn't make it there because I was flat chat going between a thousand other bands.
- 40:22SPEAKER_08: Uh, but she shot a DM our way.
- 40:24SPEAKER_08: Um, and this particular song is called Bound Two, uh, not like the Kanye track with the word two TO.
- 40:31SPEAKER_08: Um, very funky, little like groovy RB.
- 40:34SPEAKER_08: Think like if Luke Million was producing with this like cool, sultry vocal on top is how I describe this song.
- 40:39SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 41:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah, vibe.
- 41:13SPEAKER_09: Vibe.
- 41:13SPEAKER_09: Uh next one from me, Maxwell.
- 41:16SPEAKER_09: Pressure Heaven sent by the band again.
- 41:18SPEAKER_09: If you want your bands heard on this, just fucking hit us up.
- 41:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah, honestly.
- 41:23SPEAKER_09: And we don't play anything we don't like.
- 41:25SPEAKER_09: That's true.
- 41:26SPEAKER_09: However, if you're listening and go, Oh, my band's not on here.
- 41:28SPEAKER_09: We do get a lot.
- 41:29SPEAKER_09: I think you went through something like a hundred submissions.
- 41:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I had so this week, uh, between people in our email and people in our DMs, I think I went through 182 submissions.
- 41:38SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 41:38SPEAKER_08: So when we can only pick 10, don't get upset if we don't pick your band.
- 41:41SPEAKER_08: Sorry.
- 41:42SPEAKER_09: We're doing it monthly, so just be patient.
- 41:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 41:45SPEAKER_09: Anyway, pressure heaven.
- 41:47SPEAKER_09: This song's called Burning Flag.
- 41:48SPEAKER_09: They're a female fronted postcore band.
- 41:51SPEAKER_09: Ooh.
- 41:51SPEAKER_09: From Tennessee.
- 41:53SPEAKER_09: Are you from Temple?
- 41:54SPEAKER_09: You're the only ten I say, Sam.
- 41:56SPEAKER_08: Because you're hot as fuck.
- 41:58SPEAKER_08: Sam, are you Memphis?
- 42:01SPEAKER_08: Because you're a font that comes included in Word.
- 42:30SPEAKER_08: That's cool.
- 42:31SPEAKER_08: Ben that strand bull.
- 42:32SPEAKER_08: You Ben that car.
- 42:35SPEAKER_08: Right up.
- 42:36SPEAKER_08: Sam, uh, next one is uh a producer from Sweden named Arpen?
- 42:41SPEAKER_08: Sorry.
- 42:42SPEAKER_08: Europe.
- 42:42SPEAKER_08: Uh named Arpen Soul, I believe is how we're pronouncing that.
- 42:45SPEAKER_08: Uh do you want to do it with the intel like the with the accent?
- 42:49SPEAKER_08: With the accent.
- 42:50SPEAKER_08: No.
- 42:52SPEAKER_08: Uh but um It's not what you're saying, off air.
- 42:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but I'll do the racer stuff off air of course.
- 42:58SPEAKER_08: Away from the mic.
- 42:58SPEAKER_08: I can't get cancelled off air.
- 43:01SPEAKER_08: Think really tight, funky synth music, lots of groove in the rhythms.
- 43:05SPEAKER_08: Um, a little bit of a hint of something darker, but also kind of reminds me of like Todd Terge with like the roto toms that are going through this.
- 43:12SPEAKER_08: Um shout out to Ro who sent me this.
- 43:15SPEAKER_08: Uh, I have a feeling that Ro might be Arpensal.
- 43:18SPEAKER_08: But this song Shaky little I know.
- 43:21SPEAKER_08: Uh but this song is called Photo, but with an F.
- 43:24SPEAKER_08: So P H O T O F.
- 43:27SPEAKER_09: You're so happy with that.
- 44:00SPEAKER_08: How's your father?
- 44:01SPEAKER_08: Not bad, thank you.
- 44:02SPEAKER_08: He's in South America at the moment.
- 44:03SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 44:04SPEAKER_08: Shout out to the mulletons exploring Amazon.
- 44:06SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 44:07SPEAKER_08: Beautiful.
- 44:08SPEAKER_09: Anyway, I'm gonna bring Datura?
- 44:12SPEAKER_09: How is that U R A?
- 44:15SPEAKER_09: Yep, yeah, yeah.
- 44:16SPEAKER_09: By the local romance from Brisbane, sort of like a metal core, emo metal core.
- 44:21SPEAKER_09: Met them at Big Sound, just lovely, lovely dudes.
- 44:24SPEAKER_09: So passionate about what they do.
- 44:25SPEAKER_09: They recently opened for Nevertell at the Bright Side on the Up.
- 44:29SPEAKER_09: They've got a new single coming out uh October 1st, which we've had a little sneak peek through.
- 44:34SPEAKER_09: Good.
- 44:35SPEAKER_09: Um, but this is from their EP, The Darkest Parts of Me.
- 44:38SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna give you a little spin.
- 44:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 45:06SPEAKER_09: Went hard for the second breakdown.
- 45:08SPEAKER_09: It wasn't there.
- 45:08SPEAKER_09: Pulled so hard.
- 45:09SPEAKER_08: Pulled the lever, turned it off.
- 45:11SPEAKER_08: Wrong lever, cronk.
- 45:12SPEAKER_08: But um shout out to a band that uh we both thought could name themselves the Local Romans.
- 45:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 45:18SPEAKER_08: Which to be fair is a cool band now.
- 45:20SPEAKER_08: I was like, The Romans.
- 45:22SPEAKER_08: Big on your Italian history, I said.
- 45:26SPEAKER_08: Sam, uh, my next song, also from a Brizzy band, Radium Dolls.
- 45:30SPEAKER_08: Um heard of them.
- 45:31SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 45:32SPEAKER_08: Uh and they're a band that I've been around more than I've been that I've like I've I don't know, I've never seen them.
- 45:36SPEAKER_08: Uh I I should have because listen to this.
- 45:38SPEAKER_08: This is kind of cool.
- 45:39SPEAKER_08: Very like Aussie punk thing, kind of like I'm on the sniffers, bad dreams, that kind of like so Aussie, in such Aussie inflection within the uh the punk sound.
- 45:48SPEAKER_08: This song is called Legal Speed.
- 45:51SPEAKER_08: Uh yeah, Radium Dolls.
- 45:52SPEAKER_08: If I can get around it.
- 45:58SPEAKER_05: Some legal speed.
- 46:17SPEAKER_08: Very punk.
- 46:18SPEAKER_08: Shout out to Rye for dropping that one in too.
- 46:20SPEAKER_09: On your Rye, Rye Guy.
- 46:22SPEAKER_09: My guy rye.
- 46:23SPEAKER_09: My guy Rye.
- 46:25SPEAKER_09: Um, I'm gonna bring some more grunge gays, Maxwell, but this is some tick sludgy grunge gays.
- 46:31SPEAKER_09: That's sludgy shit.
- 46:32SPEAKER_09: From New Zealand.
- 46:33SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 46:33SPEAKER_09: Uh shout out to the band Lead Landlords, sent by Snowden.
- 46:40SPEAKER_09: Don't know it.
- 46:40SPEAKER_09: Edward Edward Snowden.
- 46:43SPEAKER_09: What did he do?
- 46:44SPEAKER_08: Uh Wiki and uh WikiLeaks, yes.
- 46:46SPEAKER_08: And um exposed like the uh the NSA and wiretaps and stuff like that.
- 46:51SPEAKER_09: That's not this one.
- 46:51SPEAKER_09: Anyway, this song's called Haunt.
- 46:53SPEAKER_09: Very like if Doom went shoe goes.
- 47:35SPEAKER_08: Just it's so dissonant.
- 47:36SPEAKER_09: So dissonant.
- 47:39SPEAKER_09: So dissonant.
- 47:41SPEAKER_08: It's such a dissonant little track, isn't it?
- 47:43SPEAKER_08: From this dissonance, we'll never make it.
- 47:47SPEAKER_08: Wait, if you're here and I'm here, who's flying the plane?
- 47:52SPEAKER_08: I hardly know a sound.
- 47:53SPEAKER_08: Uh this next song is the best part about eating a mandarin.
- 47:57SPEAKER_09: Oh fuck.
- 47:58SPEAKER_08: Taking the skin off.
- 47:59SPEAKER_08: It's also what's better than eating a mandarin.
- 48:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I know.
- 48:02SPEAKER_08: Uh Sam, my next I'm gonna play two little clips from this uh next one.
- 48:06SPEAKER_08: Uh the artist is called Re-Um, as in R.
- 48:10SPEAKER_08: E.
- 48:10SPEAKER_08: Colon, U M, Re-Um.
- 48:12SPEAKER_08: And the song is called Escapism.
- 48:14SPEAKER_08: Uh this is an electronic project out of London.
- 48:17SPEAKER_08: Uh, the chat the track kind of has this very big, massive, uh, like soul vocal kind of thing.
- 48:23SPEAKER_08: And then at another part, it has this super chill wave, late night, like synthie kind of thing going on.
- 48:28SPEAKER_08: And they're the way that it goes between two, the two is kind of weird.
- 48:31SPEAKER_08: I want to play both parts, so you got a kind of feel for it.
- 48:34SPEAKER_08: Um, but yeah, very interesting uh little project.
- 48:37SPEAKER_08: So I'll give a little taste of both parts.
- 48:57SPEAKER_08: So yeah, that's obviously the big, massive vocal.
- 49:00SPEAKER_08: Also, shout out to Ryan who submitted this as well.
- 49:02SPEAKER_08: Um, I'm I've no idea if Ryan has a connection to the band or to the project, but it's cool.
- 49:07SPEAKER_08: And then this is the more the the dark chill wave kind of synth sound.
- 49:34SPEAKER_09: Should have left that part in.
- 49:35SPEAKER_09: That was good.
- 49:36SPEAKER_09: Well, you can mate, you can just meditate.
- 49:38SPEAKER_09: You can just go fucking listen to it yourself.
- 49:39SPEAKER_09: People, these songs are on Spotify andor Apple Music.
- 49:42SPEAKER_09: Andor YouTube.
- 49:43SPEAKER_09: Actually, not always YouTube.
- 49:44SPEAKER_09: I won't always on YouTube, Sam.
- 49:46SPEAKER_09: I went looking for a few and I was like, fuck, I can't find it.
- 49:49SPEAKER_09: Uh the last one, Maxwell by a band called Haven.
- 49:52SPEAKER_09: Haven't.
- 49:53SPEAKER_09: It's called Carsic.
- 49:55SPEAKER_09: Um, quite heavy.
- 50:20SPEAKER_08: Hefty.
- 50:21SPEAKER_08: Sick.
- 50:21SPEAKER_08: Also, straight into the playlist of songs that kind of sound like a truck backing up.
- 50:26SPEAKER_09: It's all that dissonant cordage.
- 50:29SPEAKER_08: From this dissonance, we'll never make it, Sam.
- 50:31SPEAKER_09: Happy with that one.
- 50:32SPEAKER_08: Amanda out, Sam.
- 50:36SPEAKER_09: Oh, you got me.
- 50:37SPEAKER_09: Fuck.
- 50:38SPEAKER_09: Alright, well, I've got a little suitcase section for everyone.
- 50:40SPEAKER_09: A bit of carry-on, if you will.
- 50:42SPEAKER_09: No, I'm not bringing Parkway.
- 50:46SPEAKER_08: Not bad.
- 50:47SPEAKER_08: Don't ever fucking talk about that band again.
- 50:49SPEAKER_08: Yeah, pretty much.
- 50:50SPEAKER_09: Um, we recently put out a video about the band Hundredth.
- 50:53SPEAKER_09: And it made me realize there's a lot of bands out there that there are.
- 50:56SPEAKER_09: But we're very underrated.
- 51:06SPEAKER_09: Made me try and bloody reenact a Bumblebee.
- 51:09SPEAKER_08: You had a real boo bozella going on.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: Boo, ba-boo, ba-boo.
- 51:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 51:14SPEAKER_09: Fuck.
- 51:14SPEAKER_09: I was imitating a fly.
- 51:18SPEAKER_09: But it led me to this, Maxwell.
- 51:21SPEAKER_09: Bands that deserved more flowers.
- 51:23SPEAKER_09: Mmm.
- 51:24SPEAKER_09: First cab off the rank is a band called Stories.
- 51:28SPEAKER_09: They were pretty much Australia's answer to Undereath, essentially.
- 51:36SPEAKER_09: I think they well, they released an EP, a couple of EPs, a couple of songs that people were really excited about.
- 51:44SPEAKER_09: They went to America to record an album called The Used to Become.
- 51:47SPEAKER_09: And then they kind of just packed up shock.
- 51:49SPEAKER_09: Um I think they lost passion for the band.
- 51:52SPEAKER_09: I don't want to talk about it.
- 51:54SPEAKER_09: I had a few like deals that fell flat, all that sort of stuff.
- 51:57SPEAKER_09: So they released an album, it was incredible, and then they fucked off.
- 52:01SPEAKER_09: But this song, Alone in the Fallout, is one of my favorite songs of all time.
- 52:04SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 52:04SPEAKER_09: And I'm just gonna play the end of it.
- 52:06SPEAKER_09: It's sort of it's five and a half minutes of build and then it just erupts.
- 52:11SPEAKER_09: Like any good volcano song.
- 52:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:15SPEAKER_09: Volcano.
- 52:50SPEAKER_09: Banger.
- 52:51SPEAKER_09: Nice, nice.
- 52:52SPEAKER_09: You good, buddy?
- 52:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, good.
- 52:54SPEAKER_09: Keeping well yourself.
- 52:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah, no me, not bad.
- 52:56SPEAKER_09: Not bad.
- 52:56SPEAKER_09: The next band, Maxwell, is one called Valley Heart.
- 52:59SPEAKER_09: They're from America, think, emo think, kind of post-punk, very guitar heavy, very Christian.
- 53:10SPEAKER_09: Inshallah.
- 53:13SPEAKER_09: Inshallah, that's fucking slap.
- 53:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, anyway.
- 53:15SPEAKER_09: This song's called Heaven and Hell.
- 53:18SPEAKER_09: 2018, they released this song, uh, an album called Everyone I've Ever Loved.
- 53:21SPEAKER_09: And then since then, they've sort of released music every now and then, but they haven't released in a little while.
- 53:26SPEAKER_09: They haven't put anything out on social media in a little while.
- 53:29SPEAKER_09: Fucking been there, I feel that.
- 53:31SPEAKER_09: Story of my life.
- 53:32SPEAKER_09: Um, so I don't know if they're still a band, but um fuck they deserved some more credit than they got.
- 53:43SPEAKER_04: Everything happens.
- 54:08SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 54:09SPEAKER_09: You'll probably see a pattern with the songs I I bring.
- 54:11SPEAKER_09: Like 4-4.
- 54:12SPEAKER_09: 4-4.
- 54:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:14SPEAKER_09: That was three.
- 54:15SPEAKER_09: Every song is 4-4.
- 54:17SPEAKER_09: Next band.
- 54:18SPEAKER_09: As soon as I say the name, the real ones in our comments will be like, fuck, I know.
- 54:23SPEAKER_09: Casey.
- 54:24SPEAKER_09: They were a band out of the UK, very emo kind of post-metal chorus.
- 54:28SPEAKER_09: Blew up in the dream bound era of YouTube.
- 54:32SPEAKER_09: Um for those that know that you'll know.
- 54:34SPEAKER_09: When viral blew up.
- 54:36SPEAKER_09: And then they released three albums and then I'm not pretty enough.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:41SPEAKER_09: It's my heart too broken.
- 54:43SPEAKER_09: That's it.
- 54:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:44SPEAKER_09: Sort of country twang.
- 54:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:46SPEAKER_09: But this song is one of my favorites.
- 54:48SPEAKER_09: Their guitar work's incredible.
- 54:50SPEAKER_09: Um, it's a song called Needlework off their album Where I Go When I'm Sleeping.
- 54:54SPEAKER_09: Um, just a band that was gone too soon.
- 54:58SPEAKER_09: Rip.
- 55:29SPEAKER_09: Mm.
- 55:29SPEAKER_09: Very cool.
- 55:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 55:30SPEAKER_09: Very good lyricist is their lead singer.
- 55:33SPEAKER_09: I think his name's Tom.
- 55:34SPEAKER_09: Love their cover of uh True Colours.
- 55:36SPEAKER_09: And I see your true.
- 55:39SPEAKER_09: Did I do that well?
- 55:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 55:41SPEAKER_09: A band that I'd see no one talk about almost ever.
- 55:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 55:44SPEAKER_09: Except for Josh Hickey, videographer for Nerve.
- 55:49SPEAKER_09: Um Moving Mountains.
- 55:51SPEAKER_09: Out of New York.
- 55:52SPEAKER_09: They're kind of post-rock, borderline aggressive, but not metal.
- 55:58SPEAKER_09: There's some screens in there, but it's very rock.
- 56:01SPEAKER_09: They released an album called Waves.
- 56:03SPEAKER_09: I s I found this in a warp tool compilation CD.
- 56:07SPEAKER_09: Shit.
- 56:08SPEAKER_09: Shit.
- 56:08SPEAKER_09: Whoa shit.
- 56:09SPEAKER_09: And those bands or they were off the wall.
- 56:12SPEAKER_09: They were.
- 56:13SPEAKER_09: Um very underrated band.
- 56:15SPEAKER_09: They sort of went on a um hiatus for a little bit.
- 56:19SPEAKER_09: They dropped an album last year, but I've seen really nothing since.
- 56:22SPEAKER_09: The album didn't land super successfully.
- 56:25SPEAKER_09: But very good back in the day.
- 56:27SPEAKER_09: This song was called Where Two Bodies Lie.
- 56:32SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 56:33SPEAKER_09: Well the couch.
- 56:34SPEAKER_09: I sometimes fall asleep on the couch.
- 56:36SPEAKER_09: Hard to get two bodies on there though.
- 56:37SPEAKER_09: Big couch.
- 56:54SPEAKER_02: So you got more yes.
- 57:04SPEAKER_08: Man, I love Bleed American by Jimmy Eatworld.
- 57:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it is a little bit Jimmy Eatworld.
- 57:08SPEAKER_08: Oh, it's back.
- 57:08SPEAKER_08: She's around the ass mod.
- 57:10SPEAKER_09: And I'm gonna finish.
- 57:12SPEAKER_09: Oh well, please.
- 57:14SPEAKER_09: Bit inappropriate on air.
- 57:15SPEAKER_08: Three cameras, Sam.
- 57:16SPEAKER_09: Australian band Young Lions deserved more.
- 57:19SPEAKER_09: This is you are they're back too.
- 57:21SPEAKER_09: They're kind of back.
- 57:22SPEAKER_09: Now they're not.
- 57:23SPEAKER_09: Here we go.
- 57:45SPEAKER_09: Just bangers.
- 57:46SPEAKER_08: Well, Sam, you've had plenty of new music from us.
- 57:50SPEAKER_09: So that was 10, 15.
- 57:52SPEAKER_09: That's 25 new songs for everyone.
- 57:55SPEAKER_09: We've been recording for an hour and 20 minutes.
- 57:59SPEAKER_09: It's a long podcast.
- 58:00SPEAKER_09: Especially because we thought this would be a short one.
- 58:02SPEAKER_09: Whenever we bring that much new music, it always takes time.
- 58:05SPEAKER_08: It is true.
- 58:05SPEAKER_09: Well, um cheers.
