- 0:05Welcome back to the Elon Musk podcast where we dive into the
- 0:09latest news and Innovations from the world of musk's
- 0:12groundbreaking Ventures. I'm your host will Walden.
- 0:15And in today's episode, we're heading underground to explore
- 0:19the ambitious plans for the boring companies Loop expansion
- 0:22in Las Vegas. Nevada will discuss the proposed
- 0:2565 mile tunnel Network that aims to connect key, destinations,
- 0:30including casinos retail zones and the University of Nevada
- 0:34will also Flooring the challenges and potential impact
- 0:37of this revolutionary transport system on Sin City.
- 0:41So sit back, relax and join us as we journey beneath the
- 0:45streets of Vegas to uncover the details of Elon musk's vision
- 0:50for a Citywide undergroud transport system.
- 0:54Now the boring company is raising the stakes in Las Vegas
- 0:57by proposing a substantial extension of its underground.
- 1:01Transport system, aiming to construct 65 miles Tunnels
- 1:05beneath the city, the plans recently failed with Vegas
- 1:09showcase, an extension network of tunnels, connecting casinos,
- 1:12retail areas University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus and
- 1:16even residential neighborhoods for the first time and the
- 1:20vicious transit system comprises 69 stations 65 miles of tunnels
- 1:26with an unspecified number of Tesla vehicles, providing
- 1:30Transportation through the tunnels now with approved, a
- 1:33loop system. And a station would be situated
- 1:37within a few blocks of almost any Central Las Vegas location.
- 1:41The University of Nevada. The stadium Harry Reid,
- 1:45International Airport would all benefit from multiple stations.
- 1:49Although, none would directly serve the airport's Passenger
- 1:52Terminal now. This proposal also includes a
- 1:55tunnel running parallel to the strip with only a few stations
- 1:59potentially allowing for high-speed Express routes
- 2:02between the city's North and South areas.
- 2:05Similar artery would connect East and West Vegas and the
- 2:08project success depends on overcoming significant financial
- 2:13and logistical challenges in the future.
- 2:16It's going to transform the loop from a small campus transport
- 2:19system to a self-sustaining Citywide Transit Network.
- 2:25Now this is going to be a 15-minute City, let me explain
- 2:29that a little bit, tbc's latest Network map reveals an
- 2:32impressive system that would place a loop station within a
- 2:36few blocks of almost anywhere in central Las Vegas.
- 2:40The University of Nevada would be served by five stations with
- 2:44the stadium home of the Raiders NFL team would receive
- 2:47additional links to the city's West.
- 2:49Now, he read airport would be surrounded by several stations.
- 2:53Though, none would directly serve the Passenger Terminal and
- 2:57a proposed tunnel would run parallel to the strip with a few
- 3:00stations. Potentially enabling a
- 3:02high-speed express route between the city's North and Out there
- 3:05is another artery would connect East and West Las Vegas as well.
- 3:10Now, the first potential challenge is expanding the
- 3:13system from Clark County where the Las Vegas Convention Center
- 3:17the ovc and many strip casinos are located north to the city of
- 3:21Las Vegas. The city has its own regulations
- 3:24and permitting process, the TBC must have navigate and there are
- 3:28indications that this process might not be worth it, it might
- 3:32not be smooth either and on March 8th.
- 3:34A The engineer rejected tbc's initial structure engineering
- 3:38review for the proposed tunnels tbc's, total design would allow
- 3:43buildings to be safely constructed above the tunnels
- 3:46but only up to six stories. The engineer stated this was not
- 3:50acceptable to the city which has additional development plans for
- 3:54the area. The engineer also noted that
- 3:57tbc's designs mixed empirical and sorry Imperial and metric
- 4:02units and reference design. Nerds and building codes from
- 4:06other countries, building deeper or stronger, tunnels to address.
- 4:09Las Vegas is concerns would increase project costs overall
- 4:15They have to fund this, they have to use money to do this and
- 4:18TBC faces, the challenge of funding, the loop system.
- 4:21Without any public funds from construction or operation.
- 4:25And this is a rarity in public transportation as most systems
- 4:29in the United States and around the world rely on some sort of
- 4:32public support. Instead loop system will pay a
- 4:35small fraction of its passenger revenues to the city and Clark
- 4:39County as ridership increases. Now at EBC raised, 55 million
- 4:45dollars in a series C round last year.
- 4:48So they have some funding. Now we don't really know what
- 4:54the leadership of this Rideshare system is going to be doing, but
- 5:00the ridership figures are also unclear the ridership figures
- 5:04for the loop system have been ambiguous at Best in a June Las
- 5:09Vegas, city councilwoman, Olivia Diaz reported that the loop
- 5:12system at the Las. Convention center and seen over
- 5:16700,000 writers since it opened a year earlier however a data
- 5:20extracted by TechCrunch from detailed.
- 5:23Ridership reports indicates that the system had transported just
- 5:28under 500,000 passengers between its opening and mid-july of
- 5:332022. Now, last week the boring
- 5:35company announced that it had transported, its one millionth
- 5:38passenger, the lvc would not confirm that figure and TBC did
- 5:43not. Respond to a request for comment
- 5:46at this point. Now, only a small portion of
- 5:49those Riders between the Resorts World Casino, and the Lov CC
- 5:53were cash rides with passengers paying a one dollar and fifty
- 5:56cent trip and the majority of rides and the LBCC campus were
- 6:02funded by payments the LBCC made to TBC, which included a fixed
- 6:06monthly payment and variable fees depending on the number of
- 6:09vehicles TBC operated figures for 2021 obtained.
- 6:14Public record, request show that the price per passenger, trip at
- 6:19the convention, center varied considerably, depending on how
- 6:22busy l v CC was in November of twenty Twenty-One during the
- 6:27popular Sima. Car show, the average payment
- 6:30per passenger was only two dollars and 67 cents in
- 6:34September acquired or month. The average cost for a point.
- 6:39Eight mile trip was about twenty three dollars and seventy Two
- 6:44cents. Now, when fully operational TBC,
- 6:48says, the loop could serve up to 57 thousand, passengers an hour
- 6:52with sample, rate, fairs and rates between $6 and $12 per
- 6:57trip. However, the franchise
- 6:58agreements with Clark County and the Las Vegas, give TBC, rain to
- 7:04set, whatever fares it decides. Now, there's environmental
- 7:08concerns about this practice as well.
- 7:11And TBC is now based on the outskirts of Austin, where the
- 7:14But he has built a factory to develop new boring machines and
- 7:17constructing test tunnels last year requested permission to
- 7:21discharge up to 140 2,500 gallons of treated Wastewater
- 7:27directly into the Colorado River.
- 7:30Local residents didn't like that, they objected filing.
- 7:33Nearly 200. Protests ahead of public meeting
- 7:36and one resident urged against letting quote, a public
- 7:41resource, become a private Dumping Ground, so that it
- 7:44Global Elite can add to his profit margin.
- 7:48Now, TBC is reportedly already been served notice of to
- 7:52Wastewater violations. Now, whatever technology is
- 7:55being developed at Austin, likely does not involve
- 7:58self-driving vehicles in the new planning documents, make no
- 8:02pain, no mention of the autonomous vehicles, the musk
- 8:05initially promoted for the loop system.
- 8:07There the human drivers of the loops Tesla Model X and Y,
- 8:11vehicles are critical to the safety and evacuation.
- 8:14Evacuation plans that Clark County approved for the initial
- 8:17lvc, see, loop system and the responsibilities include
- 8:21assisting passengers, along roadways into the egress chefs
- 8:24in case of emergencies underground.
- 8:27While this will inevitably increase cost 40 BC and may
- 8:31reassure passengers concerned about ongoing investigations
- 8:34into Tesla's autopilot Technologies, as well as giving
- 8:37drivers time to inform writers about their their leader Elon
- 8:41Musk. Now, there's some challenges,
- 8:44but they can be overcome now to bring this propeller proposed
- 8:50expansion to life TBC, needs to address.
- 8:53Las Vegas is concerns about Tunnel construction secure
- 8:57funding without public assistance and navigate this
- 9:00City's regulations and permitting process.
- 9:02The ambitious project seeks to make Central Las Vegas 15
- 9:07minutes. City with Loop stations,
- 9:09conveniently located near, a key destinations in the The city.
- 9:13Now despite the hurdles, the potential benefits of a Citywide
- 9:16Network are huge. And as the company continues to
- 9:20refine as technology and plans, the expansion, could prove to be
- 9:24game changer for Vegas, and for transportation infrastructure
- 9:28across the whole United States. So, there's crucial questions
- 9:32that are not answered yet, and it will T be C.
- 9:36Be able to secure the necessary permits and approvals to do
- 9:39this. And how will they fund the Act,
- 9:42will they be able to handle the predicted ridership numbers
- 9:46while being safe and efficient? That's yet to be seen.
- 9:52But there's an ambitious timeline of completing
- 9:54construction by February of 2024.
- 9:57So, about a year from now. Now, I want to say thank you to
