- 1:34Speaker 2: want more information. I want to start off by talking
- 1:36Speaker 2: about traffic because there's been several accidents reported on I
- 1:40Speaker 2: sixty four. One of those was around the Oakwood Interchange eastbound,
- 1:45Speaker 2: and we I mean, it's it's been slow going out
- 1:48Speaker 2: there this morning. Anytime we get rain, you know what happens.
- 1:50Speaker 2: And I was driving in this morning about seven o'clock
- 1:53Speaker 2: from Day's Valley to Charleston, and I thought it was raining,
- 1:56Speaker 2: it was dark, and I thought to myself self, this
- 1:59Speaker 2: is going to be a problem coming up here really soon.
- 2:02Speaker 2: And that the accidents happen after that. So just planning
- 2:05Speaker 2: on some delays if you're going to be traveling anywhere,
- 2:07Speaker 2: and it's going to be that way pretty much through
- 2:10Speaker 2: tonight and to tomorrow to at least tomorrow evening. So
- 2:14Speaker 2: that's enough on the weather. Now, here's Brian with sports now.
- 2:16Speaker 2: All right, so coming up on the show today, Steven
- 2:18Speaker 2: Allan Adams and Bog the Newspapers is going to join us.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Several things in the news and want to talk to
- 2:21Speaker 2: Steven about County Commissioner County commission President have been. Selango
- 2:25Speaker 2: is actually in with us in studio now. We're going
- 2:28Speaker 2: to keep him for a couple of segments and Ben's
- 2:29Speaker 2: always good to come in to take questions, comments or concerns,
- 2:33Speaker 2: as we did last time he was on the show.
- 2:35Speaker 2: And we're going to talk about the moving to Tricker
- 2:37Speaker 2: treating as well. That's coming up a little bit later on.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Your calls and text are welcome. Bigley Pickley Wiggily Hotline
- 2:42Speaker 2: three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine three five
- 2:47Speaker 2: five zero zero. Await, I want to tell you about
- 2:50Speaker 2: an event going on though real soon with the Ronald
- 2:52Speaker 2: McDonald House. Folks. Mikayla is with us from the Ronald
- 2:54Speaker 2: McDonald House. Good morning to welcome to the show.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Good morning, thanks for having me.
- 2:58Speaker 2: That's the first time you've been on the show to pass, No,
- 3:01Speaker 2: I have not. This is the first time, all right,
- 3:03Speaker 2: all right, well, it's great to have you here and
- 3:06Speaker 2: tell us about what you got going on, when and where,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and we'll break it down specifically from there.
- 3:11Speaker 6: So we have our Red Shoe Gala celebrating our fortieth
- 3:13Speaker 6: anniversary of Ron McDonald's Charities of Southern West Virginia, and
- 3:17Speaker 6: we are going back to the eighties for our Red
- 3:20Speaker 6: Shoe Gala theme. So it's next Friday, November seventh, at
- 3:24Speaker 6: the Convention Center from six to eleven, and we're going
- 3:28Speaker 6: to have dancing. DJ ej is going to be there.
- 3:31Speaker 6: We have dinner, we have arcade games, we have a
- 3:34Speaker 6: special appearance by Grimace.
- 3:36Speaker 5: He will be there.
- 3:37Speaker 6: So we're celebrating forty years of raw McDonald's charities and
- 3:40Speaker 6: we're just raising funds to help our families stay close
- 3:43Speaker 6: to the medical care their children need.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Now, I love the eighties thing. By the way, and
- 3:48Speaker 2: Solang goes in here. You can jump in anytime if
- 3:50Speaker 2: you want to. Ben, It's say it's the eighties, you know,
- 3:52Speaker 2: are you more nineties though, aren't you.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, I think we're the same age.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Now we're nine. I'm older than you. We've had this
- 3:57Speaker 2: discussion before.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I'm an eighties guy. Okay, yeah, I've already got my
- 4:01Speaker 4: outfit picked out.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Awesome.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Yeah he's wearing it now. Actually I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Uh so eighties and see uh member's only jacket. That's
- 4:12Speaker 2: that's something you gotta have from the eighties. You gotta
- 4:14Speaker 2: have the the black. My look in high school was
- 4:18Speaker 2: the black rebox that were kind of velcrow but there
- 4:22Speaker 2: were high tops. You remember those men?
- 4:23Speaker 4: I do, I do. I'm thinking vans. Vans are always
- 4:26Speaker 4: vans black and white checker vans, all right, are they?
- 4:31Speaker 2: I know it's an eighties theme, but I mean people
- 4:33Speaker 2: don't have eighty stuff. You're not gonna turn anybody way, right, Yeah.
- 4:36Speaker 6: So you can wear cocktail attire, so we can. You
- 4:39Speaker 6: can dress up as much as you want, or you
- 4:41Speaker 6: can dress just cocktail attire. It does not matter. We're
- 4:44Speaker 6: just doing the eighties theme to celebrate opening in nineteen
- 4:47Speaker 6: eighty five with There's just a great way.
- 4:49Speaker 2: To go back, going back to the future exactly, which
- 4:52Speaker 2: was what was from nineteen eighty five.
- 4:54Speaker 4: But if we're doing cocktail attire, then I'm going Miami Vice.
- 4:57Speaker 5: You can't die at now you can go casual too.
- 5:02Speaker 6: A lot of people wearing jeans or like leggings, like
- 5:06Speaker 6: worked out again.
- 5:11Speaker 2: But again, I want to talk about the work of
- 5:13Speaker 2: the Ronald McDonald House because people hear that and it's
- 5:16Speaker 2: a wonderful, wonderful organization does so many great things here
- 5:20Speaker 2: in West Virginia, throughout the country talk about their work
- 5:22Speaker 2: at the Ronald McDonald House.
- 5:23Speaker 6: Yeah, so the ron McDonald House, we provide a place
- 5:26Speaker 6: for families to stay who don't live close to the hospital.
- 5:30Speaker 6: So our families have to live at least twenty five
- 5:32Speaker 6: miles from Charleston and have a patient that's twenty one
- 5:34Speaker 6: in younger. So we only serve pediatric patients. We provide
- 5:38Speaker 6: them a place to today. It's kind of like a hotel.
- 5:40Speaker 6: They get their own private room. We have laundry facilities,
- 5:43Speaker 6: We have home cooked meals provided by volunteers that come
- 5:46Speaker 6: and cook for us. We provide laundry, detergent and dryer sheets,
- 5:50Speaker 6: toilet trees, pretty much anything that they would need so
- 5:53Speaker 6: they don't have to travel back and forth home and
- 5:56Speaker 6: they can be close to their child and just care
- 5:58Speaker 6: for their child and not have to worry about expense
- 6:01Speaker 6: or time traveling back and forth.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And I think sometimes, Michadla, what people forget about this
- 6:06Speaker 2: is when you have a child that has one of
- 6:08Speaker 2: these illnesses, really the entire family is part of that
- 6:13Speaker 2: as well.
- 6:13Speaker 6: Talk about rreact, So it's not just the child that
- 6:18Speaker 6: is suffering, it's also the family. And we understand that
- 6:21Speaker 6: being together helps the child heal quicker and better. So
- 6:25Speaker 6: we want the families be as much involved with the
- 6:28Speaker 6: care as possible, so provide them a place to stay.
- 6:31Speaker 6: We also have a playroom for all siblings so they
- 6:33Speaker 6: can visit the children too that are in the hospital
- 6:36Speaker 6: and they can just be together as a family. So
- 6:37Speaker 6: it's one list thing that you have to worry about
- 6:39Speaker 6: while their child is in the hospital.
- 6:41Speaker 2: All right, now, where can people get tickets? What's the
- 6:42Speaker 2: best way to do it?
- 6:43Speaker 6: You can go to our website CHARLESTONARMHC dot org. You
- 6:47Speaker 6: can go to our events to have and purchase tickets there.
- 6:49Speaker 6: We are almost sold out, so I would act quick.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and the event is next Friday, yes, correct,
- 6:55Speaker 2: next for US week from Friday, so I probably would
- 6:57Speaker 2: not wait until then to get to tell you. Try
- 7:00Speaker 2: to get him over the next couple of days. It
- 7:02Speaker 2: sounds like it's going to be a great time. And
- 7:03Speaker 2: I know your DJ very well. He's been on the
- 7:06Speaker 2: show as a matter of fact, and he does most
- 7:07Speaker 2: of the premiere events around Charleston round canallvaly.
- 7:10Speaker 4: He does a fantastic job.
- 7:11Speaker 2: I know he'll be cranking out that eighties eighties music.
- 7:14Speaker 2: I can help him with his playlist because they call
- 7:16Speaker 2: me Captain Eighties because I'm every because I never got
- 7:19Speaker 2: out of the nineteen eighties. He's going to have to
- 7:21Speaker 2: have a little Rick James super freak. I'm telling dj
- 7:24Speaker 2: AJ how to do his job, which I don't need
- 7:26Speaker 2: to do. You know, that's kind of a gap band.
- 7:29Speaker 2: You dropped the bomb on me, a little cool and
- 7:31Speaker 2: gang celebration. You got to have prints, you got to
- 7:33Speaker 2: have Michael Jackson. You want to add anything in here?
- 7:35Speaker 4: Ben, I think that covers it. I would go min
- 7:37Speaker 4: at work. It's a dance, Ben, men of word down under?
- 7:41Speaker 4: He kidding me?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Attorneys Attorneys, What are you going to do?
- 7:47Speaker 7: Okay, there you go.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Now you've redeemed your something you shook me on that
- 7:50Speaker 2: long from nineteen eighty the Back in Black album. So
- 7:54Speaker 2: I have this rare event. If you ever want to
- 7:56Speaker 2: hire me for entertainment. I can name any song from
- 7:58Speaker 2: the eighties and three seconds for.
- 8:00Speaker 5: Oh, we should have done a trivia part of.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Three seconds or less. That's that.
- 8:04Speaker 2: It's my party gig. I can do that three seconds
- 8:08Speaker 2: or left. I can name any song from the eighties.
- 8:10Speaker 2: So there you go. All right. So again, it's next
- 8:13Speaker 2: Friday night, and hats off to you folks for doing great,
- 8:16Speaker 2: great work with Ronald McDonald house. We urge everybody to
- 8:19Speaker 2: come out. You can be there.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Oh, yes, or there. I've got a table looking forward
- 8:23Speaker 4: to it.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Okay, all right, it's gonna be a great, great night. Makayl.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks for having me, all right.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And we'll go ahead and let you get out of
- 8:31Speaker 2: here because me and mister Slango have got to get
- 8:33Speaker 2: into some stuff here. So thank you for coming in. Mikayla.
- 8:35Speaker 4: I do appreciate it. Thank you all right, see you
- 8:37Speaker 4: next week.
- 8:38Speaker 2: The Dave Island Showing five eighty Live is brought to
- 8:40Speaker 2: you part by Husband's Pizza. This month, get a large
- 8:42Speaker 2: et Nich Pepperoni pizza and order of fifty centim in
- 8:45Speaker 2: bytes twenty ninety nine. Find your closest Hudson's Pizza for delivery,
- 8:48Speaker 2: pick up your dynad at Hussin's Pizza dot com. And
- 8:50Speaker 2: again we've been telling you about all of these accidents.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I sixty four east mile marker left center lane's closed
- 8:57Speaker 2: vehicle crash on I seventy seventh South at my one sixteen.
- 9:01Speaker 2: So a lot of accidents out there this morning because
- 9:03Speaker 2: of the wet roads. Please please just use caution if
- 9:07Speaker 2: you are going to be driving out there this morning.
- 9:09Speaker 2: County Commissioned President of Bnsulango is here. Good afternoon, good morning.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Whatever it is, I lost track.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I want to give you credit. This is outside County
- 9:18Speaker 2: commission though, this is for the law firm, and we
- 9:21Speaker 2: try to separate the two. But I do want to
- 9:23Speaker 2: say thank you for sponsoring last night. You were the
- 9:26Speaker 2: main sponsor over it to trick or Beat last night.
- 9:29Speaker 2: We had a well over one thousand kids that came
- 9:30Speaker 2: through there last night over Gomart Ballpark. So hats off to.
- 9:34Speaker 4: You and your law I appreciate that, thank you, and
- 9:36Speaker 4: I have to say that the entire night. So I
- 9:39Speaker 4: was there from about five point thirty to almost nine.
- 9:43Speaker 4: I only ate one Twix. Now, there were thousands and
- 9:48Speaker 4: thousands of pieces of chocolate there. I had one Twix.
- 9:50Speaker 4: That was it.
- 9:51Speaker 8: Now.
- 9:51Speaker 2: You did tell me though, when I first walked through
- 9:52Speaker 2: the gate, You're one of the first people I saw.
- 9:54Speaker 2: You said that you were downed a couple of those
- 9:56Speaker 2: sour nerds or something like that.
- 9:58Speaker 4: Okay, but that was before the events, and that wasn't
- 10:00Speaker 4: and that wasn't chocolate. It wasn't chocolate. It wasn't chocolate.
- 10:03Speaker 4: But those are good a long time. But eighties.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but what a great event though, It really was.
- 10:08Speaker 4: I mean all the so many kids showed up. I
- 10:10Speaker 4: mean the line for both sessions it was around the ballpark.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:14Speaker 4: Uh. And then they get to come in, they get,
- 10:16Speaker 4: you know, to bring there. We had bags for them.
- 10:18Speaker 4: They come in, they get to fill up the bags,
- 10:20Speaker 4: and then they had free pizza and water, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 4: bottles of water.
- 10:24Speaker 2: It was, it was.
- 10:24Speaker 4: It's a great event. And I understand next year is
- 10:27Speaker 4: the twentieth year. We got to do something big then.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Well that's what I told Woody last night. So we've
- 10:31Speaker 4: got to we got to do something like we've got
- 10:33Speaker 4: to blow it out next year.
- 10:34Speaker 2: And you know, one of the great things, you know,
- 10:36Speaker 2: it's a it's a ticketed event, but it's free. The
- 10:39Speaker 2: reason we have to do the tickets is because we
- 10:42Speaker 2: can get ahead count because the folks at Pizza Hut
- 10:43Speaker 2: donate the pizzas and they're awesome about that, and so
- 10:47Speaker 2: so many different sponsors come and donate this and that
- 10:49Speaker 2: and candies and so on and so forth. But we
- 10:51Speaker 2: just have to have an idea of how many people.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And and we had people coming in, you know, to
- 10:56Speaker 2: the radio station. For like the past three four weeks
- 10:59Speaker 2: or so, we've had had people two sessions of six
- 11:01Speaker 2: at a seven thirty. We only asked that you come
- 11:03Speaker 2: in during business hours to pick up the tickets, and
- 11:05Speaker 2: we limited them to six, you know, per person.
- 11:08Speaker 7: I saw.
- 11:09Speaker 2: I was working the front gate. I was handing out
- 11:10Speaker 2: that Selango law swag there along with Missy from the
- 11:13Speaker 2: Metro News sales team. One of the great things that
- 11:16Speaker 2: I saw that really impressed me is people that came
- 11:21Speaker 2: through got our tickets from Tracy out front, and then
- 11:25Speaker 2: when they came through, for one reason or another, I
- 11:27Speaker 2: had a sick kid or they didn't get have as many,
- 11:30Speaker 2: they would give them back and they would say, okay,
- 11:33Speaker 2: well I got six, but I really don't need six
- 11:35Speaker 2: because so and so didn't make it. So here's two
- 11:38Speaker 2: back in case somebody didn't get tickets. And I thought
- 11:42Speaker 2: that was it's just something about our community right there.
- 11:45Speaker 4: Yeah, and I had I had some leftover and people
- 11:48Speaker 4: were messaging me, so I was able to give out
- 11:50Speaker 4: all of my tickets. Even as late as like yesterday
- 11:53Speaker 4: at five pm, people were still messaging yeah for tickets.
- 11:56Speaker 4: But yeah, you've got to have a head count. The
- 11:58Speaker 4: first year I did it, we ran out of candy
- 12:00Speaker 4: and I was eight and you don't want that, no,
- 12:02Speaker 4: but I was hitting up. It was an eight is
- 12:04Speaker 4: the outlet. They're there, and they brought me like this
- 12:07Speaker 4: monster box of candy to kind of finish us off.
- 12:09Speaker 4: But we we have a good time. I had probably
- 12:13Speaker 4: I don't know six or seven folks there with me
- 12:16Speaker 4: at the table and a couple of kids at the table,
- 12:18Speaker 4: you know, handing out the candy. But it was it
- 12:20Speaker 4: was really really fun.
- 12:21Speaker 2: And I mean so many people from the community. Simony
- 12:24Speaker 2: of the people that you know run ads with us.
- 12:27Speaker 2: You hear on the our radio stations were there, and
- 12:29Speaker 2: the Charleston Police Department was there, and yeah, they had
- 12:31Speaker 2: a nice Commissioner Tenant was there last night. There were
- 12:34Speaker 2: so many people that were there, you know last night.
- 12:36Speaker 2: They just came out to help that maybe didn't even
- 12:38Speaker 2: have kids or whatever, they just wanted to help.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Yeah. No, it's it's a big that's a big event.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I mean, so many people will show up and if
- 12:45Speaker 4: they're not bringing their kids, and they will help hand
- 12:48Speaker 4: out candy or help you know, get the kids in
- 12:51Speaker 4: the right direction. And but it's a lot of fun
- 12:53Speaker 4: for them because there are vendors all the way around
- 12:55Speaker 4: the ballpark, so they get a walk kind of the
- 12:57Speaker 4: perimeter of the field.
- 12:59Speaker 2: And they got a little preview of the light the
- 13:03Speaker 2: night too, because a Jay and the folks over there
- 13:05Speaker 2: had the lights on last night at the ballpark and
- 13:08Speaker 2: so they got a little little preview last night.
- 13:10Speaker 4: That just goes to show you what kind of a
- 13:12Speaker 4: big of how long it takes to set those lights up.
- 13:15Speaker 4: I mean, here it is, you know, yesterday was what
- 13:17Speaker 4: October twenty eighth, and they're about halfway finished with the lights.
- 13:22Speaker 4: And the lights it's going to take another almost a
- 13:24Speaker 4: month for them to finish.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I got there about five or ten after five yesterday evening,
- 13:30Speaker 2: and they were out there on the field setting up
- 13:33Speaker 2: lights last night when I got there, and they did
- 13:35Speaker 2: it as long. I mean they were working during trick
- 13:38Speaker 2: or Beat because they were down on the field working
- 13:40Speaker 2: putting up lights while Tricker Beat was going on last.
- 13:42Speaker 4: It's no joke. Two and a half million lights. It
- 13:44Speaker 4: takes a long time to put those up. So, you know,
- 13:47Speaker 4: one of the things that I talked to Andy say
- 13:48Speaker 4: about is potentially doing like some type of haunted mayze
- 13:53Speaker 4: or something on the field for Halloween, you know, bringing
- 13:57Speaker 4: people in, letting the kids go through because they've got them.
- 14:00Speaker 4: You know, there are several in other parts of the county,
- 14:02Speaker 4: but doing one there at the ballpark, I'm not sure
- 14:05Speaker 4: they can do it because it takes so long to
- 14:06Speaker 4: set up light to night. Yeah, so they would have
- 14:09Speaker 4: to they wouldn't be able to start light to Night
- 14:10Speaker 4: until after Halloween, which would be a very limited schedule.
- 14:14Speaker 4: They'd only have like three weeks to write up to
- 14:16Speaker 4: and a half million lights and an ice drink and
- 14:18Speaker 4: you know all the other great things. So I don't
- 14:20Speaker 4: think they'd have enough time, but certainly you know that
- 14:23Speaker 4: would be something I would be interested in helping out
- 14:25Speaker 4: with if they did a haunted maze.
- 14:27Speaker 2: And I will remind you that the Selango l All
- 14:30Speaker 2: Light the Night is returning to the ballpark November twenty
- 14:33Speaker 2: first through January for the first but we urge people

- 14:53Speaker 2: has been moved to Friday night. And I've told the

- 17:49Speaker 2: was made. The trick or treating, which was originally scheduled
- 17:53Speaker 2: for Thursday night in Knaw County, moved to act the
- 17:57Speaker 2: actual Halloween night on Friday because of the weather. What
- 18:00Speaker 2: went into the decision safety? You know, when we determine
- 18:06Speaker 2: which night to do trick or treat, and there's a
- 18:10Speaker 2: you know, every one person has five opinions on this,
- 18:13Speaker 2: but or more or more, we try to look at
- 18:16Speaker 2: what's the safest thing. I mean, we've had as you've said,
- 18:19Speaker 2: you know, you've been talking since the top of the
- 18:21Speaker 2: show about all the accidents. Well, the reason there were
- 18:24Speaker 2: a bunch of accents today is because of the weather.
- 18:26Speaker 2: You know, it's rainy, it was dark this morning, it's slippery.
- 18:30Speaker 4: You know that. I was driving to work this morning
- 18:32Speaker 4: about six thirty and it was pitch dark, pouring the rain,
- 18:37Speaker 4: and you just can't see that well. So it's a
- 18:39Speaker 4: visibility issue and we don't want that on trig or
- 18:43Speaker 4: treat night. You know, at seven thirty or something, you've
- 18:46Speaker 4: got kids walking around in costumes. They can't see that well.
- 18:48Speaker 4: They're wearing masks that are fogged up or rained over.
- 18:52Speaker 4: So it really comes down to safety. And we initially
- 18:55Speaker 4: decided to do Thursday because of Friday night football, and
- 18:59Speaker 4: I thought, you know, you got kids out on the
- 19:01Speaker 4: road going to the football games. You don't want little
- 19:04Speaker 4: ones darting out into traffic trying to get candy. So
- 19:07Speaker 4: we made the decision to a Thursday. Then we started
- 19:11Speaker 4: watching the forecast and tomorrow Thursday it's going to be
- 19:15Speaker 4: you know, pouring the rain is like a ninety percent
- 19:17Speaker 4: chance of rain, it's high winds, it's just not the
- 19:20Speaker 4: ideal weather for trick or treat. You know, somebody could
- 19:24Speaker 4: get hurt or killed. So we decided to move it
- 19:26Speaker 4: to Friday. Now, the funny thing about it is, when
- 19:28Speaker 4: we announced it was Thursday, so many people were upset
- 19:31Speaker 4: we weren't doing a Friday, and then we moved it
- 19:33Speaker 4: to Friday, and so many people are upset We're not
- 19:35Speaker 4: doing it Thursday. So you're not going to make everybody
- 19:38Speaker 4: ahead of those things. I mean, you know, we try
- 19:40Speaker 4: to do what's safe, not necessarily what's popular for everybody.
- 19:44Speaker 2: And you got to understand too, Kanaw County is a
- 19:46Speaker 2: large county, it is, and this decision was made for
- 19:49Speaker 2: you know, for the entire county. It's not just the
- 19:51Speaker 2: city of Charleston and South Hills and whatever. You've got
- 19:54Speaker 2: Campbell's Creek and Tornado and all these other communities within
- 19:57Speaker 2: the county. And you know, you get into some of
- 19:59Speaker 2: these more rural areas, it's a much bigger problem than
- 20:03Speaker 2: what it is you know, downtown somewhere.
- 20:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and even in even in the city, you know,
- 20:08Speaker 4: within the city of Charleston, it's an issue you've got
- 20:10Speaker 4: you know, tight streets, You've got kids on sidewalks, You've
- 20:14Speaker 4: got you know, people that aren't paying attention while they're driving,
- 20:18Speaker 4: and if it's rainy and dark and wet, the likelihood
- 20:23Speaker 4: of somebody getting hurt. I mean, I you know, we
- 20:24Speaker 4: get emails every morning. I get emails from Metro. Anytime
- 20:28Speaker 4: there's an incident in Kannaw County, I get an email
- 20:30Speaker 4: about it, whether it's a fender bender or fire or
- 20:32Speaker 4: you name it. My emails were just lit up this
- 20:36Speaker 4: morning with all the accidents, you know, all the people
- 20:38Speaker 4: that were you know, there's a bad one out on
- 20:41Speaker 4: the interstate right now.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Yeah, just Stephanie just told me that our producer that
- 20:45Speaker 2: the backup on sixty four East Rex starts at Dunbar
- 20:48Speaker 2: right now.
- 20:49Speaker 4: There's one out by Hickory Road that connects to Corridor G.
- 20:52Speaker 4: You know, if we've got so their accidents everywhere, the
- 20:54Speaker 4: last thing you want is to have little people out
- 20:57Speaker 4: on the street or out on the sidewalks when that's happening.
- 20:59Speaker 4: So we try to make the best decision we can,
- 21:02Speaker 4: the safest decision we can with the information we have
- 21:04Speaker 4: at the time. That does not mean on Thursday night.
- 21:09Speaker 4: It's not gonna be seventy degrees. He's like perfect, and
- 21:12Speaker 4: then I'm gonna look like an idiot. That's there is
- 21:15Speaker 4: a high potential for that, but I understand going in
- 21:18Speaker 4: that you can't win. The only way that you could
- 21:20Speaker 4: possibly win is to say, trick or Treat's going to
- 21:23Speaker 4: be on the thirty first. I don't care what day
- 21:25Speaker 4: it is, I don't care what the weather's like. It's
- 21:27Speaker 4: going to be on the thirty first. And then if
- 21:29Speaker 4: somebody gets hurt or killed, you got some explaining to do,
- 21:34Speaker 4: you know. So perhaps you just take the government out
- 21:36Speaker 4: of it and say it's the thirty first, that's Halloween.
- 21:39Speaker 4: That's when you're going to trigger treat. And if it's
- 21:41Speaker 4: a Sunday, it's a Sunday, it's a Wednesday night. It's
- 21:43Speaker 4: a Wednesday night.
- 21:44Speaker 2: And you and I were talking about that off the air,
- 21:46Speaker 2: you know, and I'm from southern West Virginia, and you
- 21:48Speaker 2: didn't do anything on Wednesdays or Sundays. Wednesday night's church night, man,
- 21:52Speaker 2: and you didn't have trick or treating on Wednesday night
- 21:54Speaker 2: and also on Sunday, you know, for various reasons. And
- 21:58Speaker 2: so people don't want it on Friday because of high
- 22:00Speaker 2: school football. They don't want it on Saturday. We used
- 22:02Speaker 2: to hear excuses. People would say, well, we don't want
- 22:04Speaker 2: it because Saturday night, you know, that's when all the
- 22:07Speaker 2: drunks are out, when people are going to the bar. Well,
- 22:09Speaker 2: I mean, you can get hit by a impair driver
- 22:12Speaker 2: at eleven am on Tuesday morning. So and if you
- 22:16Speaker 2: go by that route, that means that you're going to
- 22:17Speaker 2: narrow it down to having trick or treating on Monday, Tuesday,
- 22:22Speaker 2: or Thursday.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Well, you can't do that because that's a school night
- 22:24Speaker 4: and the kids get tired. Because I've heard that a
- 22:26Speaker 4: couple hundred times. You know, you can't do it on
- 22:29Speaker 4: a school day because it's you know, the kids will
- 22:31Speaker 4: get tired, the teachers are tired, they don't want to
- 22:33Speaker 4: be out all night they would be And then you
- 22:35Speaker 4: can't do it on Friday because of football. You can't
- 22:37Speaker 4: do it Thursday because it's middle school football. You can't
- 22:39Speaker 4: do it Saturday because that's when people are out drinking
- 22:41Speaker 4: and driving. And you can't do it Sunday because that's church.
- 22:45Speaker 2: So what does that leave that pretty much does Christmas morning?
- 22:48Speaker 2: That's the only thing it leaves is Christmas morning.
- 22:51Speaker 4: You can't do it Christmas orning because Halloween's a pagan holidays.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Well, you know, go back in the history of Christmas too,
- 22:57Speaker 2: but that's another story. I mean, I got a couple
- 22:59Speaker 2: of text Herefore Texas trick or Treating got moved to
- 23:01Speaker 2: its proper day. Spirits brought the storm to force the
- 23:05Speaker 2: county commissioners to rectify their decision. Good on the county
- 23:08Speaker 2: commission for taking the hint from the spirits.
- 23:10Speaker 4: Thank you spirits.
- 23:11Speaker 2: All right, Can cities or neighborhoods as the texture hold
- 23:14Speaker 2: their own trick or treating days?
- 23:15Speaker 4: Yes?
- 23:15Speaker 2: Or if they go against the county, well, the thing's repercussions.
- 23:20Speaker 4: I promise you there won't be any repercussions over trick
- 23:22Speaker 4: or treat. But listen, of it's funny looking at it.
- 23:27Speaker 4: I mean, it's not funny just because people get so
- 23:30Speaker 4: worked up. But most of the people that are getting
- 23:32Speaker 4: worked up, they're the ones that have their lights out
- 23:34Speaker 4: and don't even hand out candy anyway. Like it's you know,
- 23:38Speaker 4: it's the it's it's people who just want to be negative.
- 23:42Speaker 4: I get that that's your right be as negative as
- 23:45Speaker 4: you want it to be, if that makes you feel better.
- 23:49Speaker 4: The truth is, we've got to make the decision based
- 23:53Speaker 4: upon safety. We've got to make it based upon the
- 23:55Speaker 4: information we have at the time. Now, if the municipalities
- 23:59Speaker 4: and you know, it's not like every mayor in the
- 24:02Speaker 4: county agreed with this decision, I did get, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 4: an anger call from one. Uh. Municipalities can have it
- 24:08Speaker 4: whatever day they want. But historically, when the county sets
- 24:13Speaker 4: it and you miss, municipalities say okay, let's do it
- 24:15Speaker 4: that way. Because if you're if Dunbar is gonna have
- 24:19Speaker 4: it Thursday, and let's say it's nice and the weather's
- 24:21Speaker 4: perfect in Dunbar on Thursday, then everybody in Charleston and
- 24:24Speaker 4: South Charleston and Nitro and Saint Aubans is going to
- 24:26Speaker 4: be heading to Dunbar on Thursday. Yeah. Right, And then
- 24:29Speaker 4: if Nitro has it Friday, everybody's heading the Nitro. You
- 24:32Speaker 4: know they can game this system. Yeah, so you want
- 24:35Speaker 4: to have it, you want to have it on one night,
- 24:38Speaker 4: and particularly municipalities have agreed. It's kind of an unwrittenfore Ben.
- 24:43Speaker 2: There is no tricker, there's no trick or treat police.
- 24:46Speaker 2: If you want a trigger treat in July, go ahead,
- 24:48Speaker 2: I mean.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Nobody have it. I may sponsor it. I don't know.
- 24:53Speaker 2: Halloween in July. All right, So I think we've spoken
- 24:58Speaker 2: enough about trigger treating, but have another couple things to
- 25:01Speaker 2: want to get to you before you go. One text
- 25:03Speaker 2: says they've asked Ben, why the uh the case ready
- 25:06Speaker 2: app hasn't worked for a year. It gives no notifications.
- 25:11Speaker 4: I wasn't aware that the casey Ready app wasn't working. Okay,
- 25:15Speaker 4: well apparently all right, Yeah, got that taken.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Care of.
- 25:20Speaker 2: The setting. The trick or Treat night has done months
- 25:22Speaker 2: in advance, and people make plans. I understand the safety concerns,
- 25:25Speaker 2: but using that logic and with all of this morning directs,
- 25:28Speaker 2: one should postpone driving for the day. So it's a texture. Well,
- 25:31Speaker 2: I don't understand what they did there.
- 25:33Speaker 4: I'm not sure that the there's a logical connection between
- 25:36Speaker 4: postponing driving and uh, delaying trick or Treat for a day.
- 25:40Speaker 2: I mean a little star caps right, but but but
- 25:42Speaker 2: I will say this, I do I do feel badly
- 25:45Speaker 2: for the parents who requested Thursday off. Yeah, I get that,
- 25:50Speaker 2: and I feel terribly about that. Uh, but I promise
- 25:53Speaker 2: you this you you weren't gonna be out trick or
- 25:55Speaker 2: treating tomorrow anyway. You're gonna be sitting it home, right,
- 25:58Speaker 2: So if you requested, you can do that anyway, because
- 26:02Speaker 2: I don't send. Let's the forecast just completely changes. I
- 26:05Speaker 2: don't see any way people are going to be out
- 26:07Speaker 2: even if we said, oh, we're going to still do
- 26:09Speaker 2: it Thursday, that people would be out. First of all,
- 26:11Speaker 2: it's way too dangerous. But it's going to be pouring
- 26:13Speaker 2: the rain. Depending on which station you look at, it's
- 26:17Speaker 2: somewhere between an eighty five and ninety eight percent chance
- 26:20Speaker 2: of rain and not. I'm not tall about sprinkles, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 2: heavy rain, heavy rain. We're not expecting severe weather of
- 26:25Speaker 2: what I understand as far as thunder and lightning goes.
- 26:27Speaker 2: But we are expecting heavy downpours exactly. And that leads
- 26:31Speaker 2: to ponding on roads, especially when you get to some
- 26:33Speaker 2: of these rural areas, it becomes a bigger problem.
- 26:35Speaker 4: It's a glare issue, you know.
- 26:37Speaker 10: Uh.
- 26:38Speaker 4: I have trouble driving at night when it's raining because
- 26:40Speaker 4: it's hard. It's I I'm old, you know, it's hard
- 26:43Speaker 4: to see. Uh, you got kids running in between cars.
- 26:46Speaker 4: They call it dart you know, dart outs, You've got
- 26:48Speaker 4: that issue. It's it's a significant issue. So I think
- 26:53Speaker 4: we made the right decision. But only time will tell you. Yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 4: we're either going to look really really smarter, really really see.
- 26:58Speaker 2: I like your idea what you said of you just
- 27:00Speaker 2: have trick or treating on Halloween night.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Period.
- 27:01Speaker 2: That's the easy way out at easy Halloween night. And
- 27:04Speaker 2: if it's on a if it's on Church night, if
- 27:06Speaker 2: it's on a night when the Mountaineers are playing in
- 27:08Speaker 2: high school football or whatever, so be it. It's on Halloween.
- 27:10Speaker 4: If we do that, we'll get hundreds and hundreds and
- 27:12Speaker 4: hundreds of messages and emails and comments about why don't
- 27:16Speaker 4: we do it the way we used to do it?
- 27:17Speaker 4: Because and this is somebody somebody took a screenshot of
- 27:22Speaker 4: this and sent it to me yesterday and they said
- 27:24Speaker 4: moving Trick or Treat to Friday was the worst decision
- 27:27Speaker 4: the Kanawha County Commission has ever made. And I'm thinking back,
- 27:31Speaker 4: you know, two hundred years of Kanawak County. I'm like, man,
- 27:34Speaker 4: we've made some really good decisions. Then if moving that's
- 27:37Speaker 4: twenty four hours was the worst decision, then I feel
- 27:40Speaker 4: pretty confident about how things are going.
- 27:42Speaker 2: Back to the ballparking moment, says Dave. Why can't they
- 27:44Speaker 2: just put a quote unquote haunted trail around the ballpark
- 27:47Speaker 2: up there when the vendors and things are there. That way,
- 27:50Speaker 2: it wouldn't be in the way of light the night's setup.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I like it, like it too. But the only problem
- 27:55Speaker 2: I'm not opposed to the only problem is somebody who
- 27:57Speaker 2: worked trigger beat last night. The only problem I see
- 28:00Speaker 2: with that is is one of the issues you have
- 28:02Speaker 2: is the flow of the of the traffic with and
- 28:04Speaker 2: I mean that by you know, of the kids I'm
- 28:06Speaker 2: talking about and trying to get them all through there.
- 28:09Speaker 2: You know, that's one of the problems we have is
- 28:11Speaker 2: we have to tell them. I mean, the kids want
- 28:13Speaker 2: to you know, they want to check out the different candies.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I get that. But I was working the front the
- 28:17Speaker 2: front gate along with Missy as I said, from our
- 28:19Speaker 2: Metro News sales department, and so we had to say, okay,
- 28:21Speaker 2: we'll take the next five en now hold up because
- 28:23Speaker 2: we've got a bottleneck here. That's a good problem to have.
- 28:26Speaker 2: But that's the only problem.
- 28:27Speaker 4: I can There were there were bottlenecks, but so if
- 28:29Speaker 4: they put a honted trail around the perimeter. First of all,
- 28:32Speaker 4: they do have lights on the perimeter. It's not just
- 28:34Speaker 4: on the field, it's all over the place, on the
- 28:36Speaker 4: sides of the buildings. Yeah, but I could see them
- 28:38Speaker 4: maybe unplugging those, you know, and just not having electricity
- 28:43Speaker 4: of those. That's something that Andy shelill have to decide,
- 28:45Speaker 4: and and if he makes that decision and he wants
- 28:48Speaker 4: help with it, I'm here for it.
- 28:49Speaker 2: What Ben says describes as a texture of people going
- 28:53Speaker 2: city to city for trick or treating sounds like the
- 28:55Speaker 2: opportunity for capitalism for me one hundred percent. Then sell
- 28:59Speaker 2: that candy.
- 29:00Speaker 4: That's right. In fact, if they do that, I may
- 29:02Speaker 4: I may go door to door, from city to city.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Who knows he caw was fifty two years old, Dix says,
- 29:07Speaker 2: ever thought about volunteers acting a sort of crossing guards
- 29:10Speaker 2: in each neighborhood to guide traffic and keep kids safe.
- 29:14Speaker 4: That's a good idea. Uh, it would take a lot.
- 29:16Speaker 4: I mean it would be a lot of cross you know.
- 29:17Speaker 4: I see the volunteers and at schools in the mornings
- 29:21Speaker 4: to do that all over the county and not just
- 29:23Speaker 4: in school zones, but it would take a lot of volunteers.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Somebody said it would be if we if we had
- 29:29Speaker 2: trick or trading on Christmas, we could call it Chris Aween.
- 29:32Speaker 4: How do you have aniot? People would like run me
- 29:35Speaker 4: out of there? Yes, I did that absolutely, I will
- 29:38Speaker 4: let me. Let me take care of this. And I
- 29:40Speaker 4: got a couple of other things to talk to you about.
- 29:42Speaker 4: A Dave Island show on five eighty line, brought to
- 29:43Speaker 4: you a part by the All New Generations Ford of
- 29:45Speaker 4: Hurricane your family and locally owned for dealership. Ask about
- 29:48Speaker 4: explanning discount pricing on the purchase of every new four.
- 29:50Speaker 2: They're also offering one hundred and thirty percent of Kelly
- 29:53Speaker 2: Blue Book fair trade value for your vehicle visiting today
- 29:56Speaker 2: off the Hurricane accent or online at Generations for dot
- 29:59Speaker 2: com destination for every Generation Generations forward to see see
- 30:03Speaker 2: dealer for details. All right, let's talk about other things
- 30:05Speaker 2: with Canaan County, I mean judicial annexes, a capital sports complex.
- 30:10Speaker 2: We've we've trick or treated all we can trick or treat,
- 30:12Speaker 2: So let's talk about some more.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Serious judicial NX is moving along. You know, we uh
- 30:16Speaker 4: traffic in that area is not ideal just because they
- 30:20Speaker 4: had to close down a lane on Virginia. Uh So
- 30:23Speaker 4: people that are crossing the street there, you've got to
- 30:26Speaker 4: be very, very careful if you're at the corner of
- 30:28Speaker 4: like Court and Virginia, and especially when it's raining like this,
- 30:32Speaker 4: you've got to be careful. So people that will park
- 30:34Speaker 4: and have to walk across, or they're crossing for lunch,
- 30:37Speaker 4: or they're doing whatever. Uh that's a that's a high
- 30:40Speaker 4: risk area. And you know, the engineers have studied it
- 30:43Speaker 4: and they've come up with what we believe to be
- 30:45Speaker 4: a safe plan. But it's concerning there, right, it's concerning.
- 30:50Speaker 4: But we're moving along. It's going to be a while,
- 30:52Speaker 4: you know. That's a that's a very long project. I
- 30:55Speaker 4: think we're going to be well into twenty twenty six
- 30:57Speaker 4: before it's completed. The fifth floor, the judicial annats is done.
- 31:02Speaker 4: It looks great. Our architects, the bill, the construction company
- 31:06Speaker 4: did a wonderful job. Uh So Judge Lindsay's in his
- 31:09Speaker 4: courtroom in the annex on the fifth floor. They did
- 31:13Speaker 4: a great job there. So now we're just working on
- 31:14Speaker 4: the first floor. Uh. Keep in mind, you know, by
- 31:17Speaker 4: doing it the way we did it, even though it
- 31:20Speaker 4: delayed a few months, probably six months. Uh we say
- 31:23Speaker 4: five and a half million dollars. So that was that
- 31:26Speaker 4: was a big decision. Talking about talking about worst decisions
- 31:29Speaker 4: coun knock out he's ever made. If we had gone,
- 31:31Speaker 4: you know, five six million dollars ever Bud did. I
- 31:33Speaker 4: suspect they wouldn't be worried about trick or treat. They'd
- 31:34Speaker 4: be worried about the money we wasted. But uh we
- 31:38Speaker 4: we took a calculated gamble and it paid off.
- 31:42Speaker 2: What about the last time we had John here, we
- 31:44Speaker 2: talked about the expansion of the law enforcement training area
- 31:47Speaker 2: out there that that is coming along.
- 31:49Speaker 4: We've got we we did our we put out bids
- 31:52Speaker 4: for architects and we've we had several people that bid
- 31:57Speaker 4: on and I believe ZMM had the uh we receive
- 32:01Speaker 4: the high score on the on the on the bids.
- 32:04Speaker 4: So it will, it will. They're starting to work on
- 32:07Speaker 4: it now. I think it's gonna take about four to
- 32:10Speaker 4: six months to design, which is perfect because that'll put
- 32:13Speaker 4: us into spring and we can start construction. I suspect
- 32:16Speaker 4: it'll take six months or so to construct Capital Sports Complex.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Fingers crossed, Buddy fingers crossed. You know, Where's when I
- 32:27Speaker 4: talk about this, I want to make sure people understand
- 32:28Speaker 4: I'm not criticizing anyone. That's not the purpose of it.
- 32:33Speaker 4: But we we have, uh we've looked at the financing.
- 32:38Speaker 4: We have put millions of dollars into it that's still
- 32:41Speaker 4: ready to go. We have the capacity to bond a
- 32:47Speaker 4: substantial portion of it. We do not have the capacity
- 32:49Speaker 4: to bond all of it. So there are two options.
- 32:52Speaker 4: We can either scale the project back, which is not ideal,
- 32:56Speaker 4: or we can uh see if we can get some
- 32:58Speaker 4: state or federal assistance. We've it in for a federal
- 33:02Speaker 4: ear mark and we're waiting to see if we get it.
- 33:05Speaker 4: But you know that's things are a little different right now.
- 33:09Speaker 4: That's not a criticism of anybody. Is is different, and
- 33:12Speaker 4: so we'll see if we get it. If we don't,
- 33:14Speaker 4: then we'll either ply again next year or we'll come
- 33:17Speaker 4: up with a different plan. My goal is to have
- 33:21Speaker 4: that done because I really think and people people are
- 33:25Speaker 4: seeing it. You know, the mall is slowly but surely,
- 33:28Speaker 4: it's just it's getting worse and worse.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Now.
- 33:31Speaker 2: They're announcement I made about a week or so ago
- 33:32Speaker 2: about another business closing there the cheesecake or the cheese
- 33:36Speaker 2: take place.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I think I thought you must said cheesecake fast. I
- 33:38Speaker 4: will take a cheesecake factory. Don't get that start. Yeah,
- 33:42Speaker 4: So we're we're we're hoping that will happen. I think
- 33:45Speaker 4: people have seen, you know what sports tourism does. I
- 33:48Speaker 4: think most people get it now. It wasn't necessarily a
- 33:51Speaker 4: popular idea back in twenty seventeen when I propose the
- 33:54Speaker 4: Shawnee Sports Complex, But it's it works. It's brought in
- 33:58Speaker 4: over one hundred and fifty million dollars in economic impact.
- 34:00Speaker 4: I think that facility would bring in substantially more, just
- 34:03Speaker 4: because there are more sports that we'll be able to do.
- 34:07Speaker 4: It's some of the biggest travel sports in the nation.
- 34:09Speaker 4: You're talking about volleyball, basketball. It will work, you know,
- 34:15Speaker 4: it's just a big commitment. It's a lot of money.
- 34:17Speaker 4: It's a lot of money.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Two more questions for you are a popular guy today?
- 34:21Speaker 2: What's the number to get Culvert's clean? Guthrie Road off
- 34:24Speaker 2: Route twenty one in the Charleston County Lands is so
- 34:27Speaker 2: bad that the roads becoming a series of potholes all over.
- 34:30Speaker 4: The main Number three, five, seven, one zero zero. Give
- 34:34Speaker 4: that number four three or four three five seven one
- 34:36Speaker 4: zero zero. I hope I just gave you the county
- 34:38Speaker 4: commission number, not my judicial number. I don't know if
- 34:44Speaker 4: you gave it for Judge Selango. Just say hey, give
- 34:46Speaker 4: us message. Tell Ben h there was enough.
- 34:50Speaker 2: How does the Knaw County Commission select outside legal council
- 34:53Speaker 2: to handle legal matters for the county? And is there
- 34:55Speaker 2: a record of the firms retained and paid for by
- 34:57Speaker 2: the county?
- 34:58Speaker 4: There is? Yeah, you can get all that with a
- 34:59Speaker 4: four and we It depends on the situation. I mean,
- 35:03Speaker 4: we use different lawyers with different expertise depending on the
- 35:06Speaker 4: situation that we have. But it's typically a decision by
- 35:10Speaker 4: the county commissioners which firm to retain. It is. Uh,
- 35:15Speaker 4: you know, if we have an employment matter, then we
- 35:18Speaker 4: look at the respected employment lawyers. If we have when
- 35:22Speaker 4: we had to sue the trucking company over the Paint
- 35:25Speaker 4: Creek collapse, we looked at, you know, which law firm
- 35:28Speaker 4: do we think that would be best. Now, if it's
- 35:30Speaker 4: an insurance claim, then we don't necessarily get to picket.
- 35:35Speaker 4: For instance, if if somebody slips on the sidewalk or something,
- 35:37Speaker 4: we don't necessarily get a picket. We we have some
- 35:40Speaker 4: influence in that, but it's not it's simply the insurance
- 35:42Speaker 4: company that would hire. So it depends on what type
- 35:44Speaker 4: of case it is.
- 35:45Speaker 11: UH.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And then the insurance companies have what are called panel council,
- 35:49Speaker 4: and the panel council is put together by the carrier
- 35:52Speaker 4: and they will call us and say, hey, which firm
- 35:55Speaker 4: might you want to use from our panel council, and
- 35:57Speaker 4: then we can tell them and they don't have necessarily
- 35:59Speaker 4: go with us. But that's how we're all right.
- 36:00Speaker 2: We gotta go. I've got more questions for you. Would
- 36:02Speaker 2: just have to have you back.
- 36:03Speaker 4: All right, sounds good?

- 40:05Speaker 2: KANAL valley i mean Sixty four. EAST especially i want
- 40:09Speaker 2: to ask you about the governor's. Press, conference sure yesterday your,
- 40:13Speaker 2: thoughts governor and we carried it Live On. Metro news
- 40:15Speaker 2: midday comes out yesterday and says that he's Asking All
- 40:18Speaker 2: west virginians HAD the qr codes and everything to donate
- 40:21Speaker 2: because of the partial government shutdown and the LOSS of
- 40:23Speaker 2: snap Benefits, on saturday he's asking for the governor or
- 40:27Speaker 2: asking for the public to come up and help out
- 40:30Speaker 2: with the state's going to put in, so much and
- 40:32Speaker 2: then he's wanted the public to put in.
- 40:34Speaker 14: So much, your thoughts, SURE well, i mean of course
- 40:36Speaker 14: it's better. THAN nothing, i MEAN the snap benefits pretty
- 40:40Speaker 14: much go on Pause beginning. November one there's gonna be
- 40:43Speaker 14: ANY other. Snap benefits so it puts states in the
- 40:47Speaker 14: position having to do Something in different states are doing.
- 40:50Speaker 14: Different things some have done states of emergency in order
- 40:52Speaker 14: to allow them to free up the money. They need
- 40:55Speaker 14: some are dumping whatever money they need. Into It west
- 40:59Speaker 14: virginia being a little more, cautious again. Thirteen million up to.
- 41:05Speaker 14: Thirteen million it's not even guaranteed that it's. Thirteen million
- 41:07Speaker 14: it has to be matched by private donors To Both
- 41:11Speaker 14: Mountaineer food Bank And Facing Hunger. Food bank they're going
- 41:14Speaker 14: to split their donations. In half but if whatever people
- 41:18Speaker 14: donate to those food banks during, this period if you
- 41:21Speaker 14: can get up to thirteen million in, the state will
- 41:23Speaker 14: donate up to. Thirteen million, in fact they're throwing two
- 41:26Speaker 14: point five million in as of today to get the whole.
- 41:29Speaker 14: Thing started but it's one of those things like it's,
- 41:33Speaker 14: better nothing but is it going to? Be enough it
- 41:36Speaker 14: depends on how quickly. People donate it depends obviously on the,
- 41:40Speaker 14: government SHUTDOWN because i think everyone sort of hopes this
- 41:43Speaker 14: one gets wrapped up next week after we see the
- 41:47Speaker 14: possible insurance premium hike numbers come Out on november FIRST.
- 41:51Speaker 14: FOR aca, I mean i think the pressure is mounting
- 41:55Speaker 14: to end this probably at, some point hopefully by the
- 41:59Speaker 14: beginning the. NEXT week i don't want. To PREDICT so
- 42:02Speaker 14: i do think that the governor is hoping that this
- 42:04Speaker 14: thing gets resolved so we don't have to put a
- 42:06Speaker 14: whole bunch of state money into these food banks because
- 42:10Speaker 14: we're not getting reimbursed from That.
- 42:12Speaker 2: From defense So on monday's, LOCAL show i Had On Delegate,
- 42:15Speaker 2: kaylee young and she point, blank said calling out, the
- 42:19Speaker 2: Government the governor's got. The money if you need to
- 42:21Speaker 2: call the, legislature in call the legislature in let's fund.
- 42:24Speaker 2: This thing, then yesterday after the announcement, came Out Say
- 42:27Speaker 2: democratic Party Chairing Delegate, mike pushkin who just happened to
- 42:29Speaker 2: be like in, the area came in did a little
- 42:32Speaker 2: run in on the show yesterday to again kind of
- 42:36Speaker 2: dismiss what to, not dismissed that's not the, right word
- 42:38Speaker 2: but he criticized the governor's. Announcement yesterday AND then I
- 42:42Speaker 2: think i heard some audio this Morning From delegate YOUNG
- 42:45Speaker 2: on i guess TikTok or something that she put, out
- 42:47Speaker 2: saying just just put the. Money out what would you say?
- 42:50Speaker 14: To that on, ONE hand i understand What the, governor's doing,
- 42:54Speaker 14: because sure we're talking about between forty five and fifty
- 42:58Speaker 14: million dollars for a month WORTH of, snap benefits and
- 43:04Speaker 14: we're talking about thirteen million up to. THIRTEEN million i
- 43:06Speaker 14: want to stress that because.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Again they want.
- 43:08Speaker 14: Private donors so assuming private donors pony up thirteen, million
- 43:12Speaker 14: dollars you're talking about twenty six. Million dollars but that
- 43:14Speaker 14: only gets you halfway through, One MONTH so i would
- 43:17Speaker 14: get you Halfway. Through NOVEMBER so i Understand the democratic
- 43:21Speaker 14: members Of the house specifically saying just just put all that.
- 43:25Speaker 14: Money in but at the, same Time the morrissey administration
- 43:30Speaker 14: is taking a more cautious approach and trying to fund
- 43:34Speaker 14: these food banks based on, you know as in. Needed
- 43:37Speaker 14: basis they don't want to throw in a whole bunch
- 43:39Speaker 14: of money because then you'll have to yank all that.
- 43:43Speaker 14: Money back that certainly hurts the food banks in the.
- 43:46Speaker 14: Long run and keep, in mind this is not like
- 43:48Speaker 14: we're not dumping this money into snap and people are
- 43:51Speaker 14: going to be able to use their cards. And whatnot
- 43:52Speaker 14: we're dumping this into. Food banks it's not even really
- 43:55Speaker 14: the same. YOU know I think I Heard bob aaron
- 43:58Speaker 14: say during our, Press, conference yes Say to governor that
- 44:00Speaker 14: for every one meal that you would do through the,
- 44:03Speaker 14: food banks that could do the same thing with. Nine
- 44:07Speaker 14: meals so it's not even really an. Even match, so
- 44:10Speaker 14: yeah there's no. Winners here this is, all bad.
