- 0:01Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome, welcome, welcome, Now for car talk with Brad Dungeons, Dungeons,
- 0:06Speaker 2: Toyota and you brought bring in.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Of course, try to do that every week unless we
- 0:10Speaker 3: forget to invite someone and get busy.
- 0:13Speaker 1: But hey, Chris Batch elders with me. Hello, Bradley, thank
- 0:16Speaker 1: you for the invitation.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Your Tom is trying to get his bodyguards in here
- 0:20Speaker 2: with him.
- 0:21Speaker 1: He wants to walk down the hallway looking like he's
- 0:24Speaker 1: got protection.
- 0:24Speaker 3: So I'm good you covered Tom, and I got two
- 0:27Speaker 3: the tolest guys in the town.
- 0:29Speaker 1: You can stand the ragweed.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Brad and I are both dying of the ragweed invasion,
- 0:34Speaker 2: and so we're gonna fight through it this year.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I keep wondering if I have something more serious. I
- 0:40Speaker 1: know me too.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I don't think so, Tom, if I could take a
- 0:43Speaker 2: moment of editorial liberty. I haven't seen you in a while,
- 0:46Speaker 2: So congratulations on your fiftieth anniversary in the entertainment industry.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Thank you. That's quite a milestone.
- 0:53Speaker 2: I didn't know they let people go on the air
- 0:57Speaker 2: when they were six years old, so.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Okay, it was fifteen.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It was kind of behavior modification, they said kid's got
- 1:05Speaker 2: good grades.
- 1:05Speaker 1: But a smart mouth, let's put it to good. Yeah
- 1:08Speaker 1: a radio, Well, congratulations, Yeah, that's a cool deal.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a beautiful morning out of the dealership.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Despite the ragweed. We've been busy taking care of customers
- 1:17Speaker 3: and having lots of fun. Got lots of new inventory
- 1:20Speaker 3: flowing through today. We'll get our glimpse at the next allocation.
- 1:23Speaker 3: It's been rolling out every couple of weeks and still
- 1:27Speaker 3: still pretty scarce on the Toyota lots all around the country.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I did just get back from a great Twyota National
- 1:34Speaker 3: Dealer meeting.
- 1:35Speaker 1: It was so inspiration. It wasn't really great in Las Vegas.
- 1:38Speaker 1: That is awesome. I don't know, I'm not out of
- 1:41Speaker 1: that bigger.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it's like I didn't go outside except for little
- 1:45Speaker 3: shortcuts to get this time.
- 1:47Speaker 1: That's a good decision.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah, it was. It was like the whole time I
- 1:50Speaker 3: never went outside. It was it was rough. But I'm
- 1:54Speaker 3: going through the model year in transition to the twenty
- 1:57Speaker 3: six models and got great deals and the dementory in
- 2:00Speaker 3: a long time. But they are still turning super fast,
- 2:05Speaker 3: and uh.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You got to get in there and get them while
- 2:07Speaker 1: they got them. That's right.
- 2:09Speaker 2: We were just talking in the hallway before this about
- 2:11Speaker 2: the Sequoias and four erunners and Tacomas and kind of
- 2:16Speaker 2: that new look from last year where they muscled them
- 2:18Speaker 2: up a little bit.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Those are really awesome cars.
- 2:21Speaker 3: They are I'd love to have one, And the power
- 2:23Speaker 3: train is awesome that you know they've got you can
- 2:26Speaker 3: get an internal combustion engine. But what I love is
- 2:30Speaker 3: the hybrid with with that, it's got the sport mode
- 2:35Speaker 3: even sounds like a like a like a Cobra, Mustang
- 2:40Speaker 3: or something. Yeah, that's awesome, and it's it is a
- 2:44Speaker 3: head head a.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Lot of g forces. Yeah, just put it that way.
- 2:49Speaker 3: And but you can put in an echo mode too,
- 2:51Speaker 3: which drives real nice and smooth. Yeah. I took it
- 2:54Speaker 3: up to Colorado this summer and I really loved having
- 2:57Speaker 3: the TRD Pro stuff and the all the special suspension. Yeah,
- 3:03Speaker 3: and it was it got me everywhere I needed to
- 3:06Speaker 3: go with my mountain bike and it was lots of fun.
- 3:09Speaker 1: It's so cool how they can do that with cars.
- 3:11Speaker 2: You help me get a a Bronco when they first
- 3:13Speaker 2: came out, and that it has those goat modes and
- 3:16Speaker 2: just it's amazing to me.
- 3:17Speaker 1: What they could do with vehicles.
- 3:19Speaker 3: First they were I didn't make that big a difference,
- 3:22Speaker 3: I thought, But now.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Most modes are. Really that's cool.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, Another thing I wanted to talk before we
- 3:30Speaker 3: get going, just because it's kind of related, I think,
- 3:32Speaker 3: to our subject today. But you know, so I want
- 3:35Speaker 3: to acknowledge the importance of our customers supporting us and
- 3:38Speaker 3: making the choice to do business locally. With a small
- 3:41Speaker 3: Oklahoma family owned business, ninety five years and four generations,
- 3:46Speaker 3: we've been selling cars in Oklahoma, and we don't take
- 3:50Speaker 3: it for granted. We're offering all our customers more value
- 3:54Speaker 3: and better service all the time. It's a passion of
- 3:56Speaker 3: ours and you know, we think there's some things that
- 3:59Speaker 3: make us unique, and one of them is what we're
- 4:01Speaker 3: going to talk about. But there's a lot to it,
- 4:05Speaker 3: I think, you know, thinking back, you know, my grandfather
- 4:08Speaker 3: got in the car business in nineteen twenty nine, he
- 4:11Speaker 3: got his first dealership.
- 4:12Speaker 1: There was some interesting stuff.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Going on then and then the next few years like
- 4:16Speaker 3: the Great Depression.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Yeah, a few things happened, a couple of rood blocks
- 4:20Speaker 1: along the way and whatnot.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Then he made the brilliant decision. It was brilliant but
- 4:27Speaker 3: timing maybe not perfect to move to Borlswell in nineteen
- 4:29Speaker 3: forty one, a few months before World War two started. Wow,
- 4:34Speaker 3: and Ford stopped making vehicles for about five years, started
- 4:38Speaker 3: making airplanes and all kinds of parts for ships and
- 4:42Speaker 3: all kinds of stuff tanks and yeah, and you know,
- 4:45Speaker 3: so you didn't have any inventory, and you know it's
- 4:49Speaker 3: just you know, we're all Oklahoma's oldest Toyota dealer. We're
- 4:53Speaker 3: the first and only lead certified dealer in the state.
- 4:58Speaker 3: Our sparks thing, I think is unique as sincere partnership
- 5:03Speaker 3: the line Affilion, Kaisen superheroes, and then you know our
- 5:08Speaker 3: simple price and non commissioned product specialists and managers. But
- 5:12Speaker 3: today let's talk about the Dungeons Ford Engines. And we
- 5:16Speaker 3: were honored a few years ago, probably fifteen now, but
- 5:20Speaker 3: by Guinness Records for being the longest corporate sponsor of
- 5:24Speaker 3: a sports team in the world, not like baseball team, yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 3: any sport, any corporation anywhere in the world, and right
- 5:35Speaker 3: here in Bartlesville.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And this year the Bartlesville Sports.
- 5:39Speaker 3: Commission and the Hall of Fame are gonna enshrine the
- 5:44Speaker 3: nineteen sixty nine Dungeons Ford Engines.
- 5:47Speaker 1: It was Engines era.
- 5:49Speaker 3: And into the Hall of Fame, and it's a great
- 5:53Speaker 3: honor and a great class of people going in this
- 5:56Speaker 3: year it is, and you know, I know you're involved
- 5:59Speaker 3: in the PI and do lots of work for them,
- 6:02Speaker 3: So let's talk about the class and just sure everything
- 6:05Speaker 3: going on. The big event is just coming up on
- 6:10Speaker 3: October third, I guess right, yeah, Friday night. So thanks
- 6:14Speaker 3: again for the opportunity to visit. I appreciate very much
- 6:18Speaker 3: being on and you bring in community partners in to
- 6:22Speaker 3: do this show like you do, and the Bartlesville Sports
- 6:25Speaker 3: Commission is excited. We've got a lot of things going on,
- 6:29Speaker 3: but yeah, October third is our Hall of Fame.
- 6:33Speaker 1: I'll tell you, Brad.
- 6:34Speaker 2: One of the cool things about researching this team was
- 6:37Speaker 2: being able to look into the history of the Engines
- 6:40Speaker 2: and dungeons and its affiliated dealerships have been synonymous with
- 6:45Speaker 2: the American Legion program in Bartlesville since its inception, and
- 6:48Speaker 2: that is remarkable and the commitment that your family has
- 6:52Speaker 2: had to supporting that program is remarkable. And you know,
- 6:57Speaker 2: the award is obviously cool and deserved and it's a
- 6:59Speaker 2: new story, but really the support that allows that program
- 7:05Speaker 2: to continue, you know, as travel sports and stuff.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Kind of have taken over our world.
- 7:12Speaker 2: The fact that American Legion baseball is still played in
- 7:15Speaker 2: the state of Oklahoma and at that stadium.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah, like it is. It is really cool.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And so there's a story there too because back to
- 7:25Speaker 3: nineteen twenty nine that my grandfather's dealership was one that
- 7:29Speaker 3: he had worked at earlier in life and before he
- 7:32Speaker 3: went to college, he went to I have a picture
- 7:35Speaker 3: of he and two of his brothers on a basketball
- 7:38Speaker 3: team for this dealership in Tonkauhia, Oklahoma, No way, and
- 7:42Speaker 3: they I call it the Sparks picture. Yeah, that's how
- 7:46Speaker 3: Sparks came from. Is it was the beginning of all
- 7:50Speaker 3: this stuff that started. Dounge just Automotive or family of
- 7:53Speaker 3: Aado's or Ford Antoyo.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 7:55Speaker 3: But you know, he when he moved to Barlsville, one
- 7:58Speaker 3: of his first things was to sponsor the team, and
- 8:03Speaker 3: he did it because it had been so important in
- 8:05Speaker 3: his life. He went on to play to be a
- 8:08Speaker 3: multi sport athlete at Oklahoma City University and uh won
- 8:12Speaker 3: the Browse Athletic Award there.
- 8:14Speaker 1: That's awesome. Was you know team sports.
- 8:16Speaker 3: And his his Uh, dedication to that that team. You know,
- 8:22Speaker 3: I remember it as a kid, you know how he
- 8:24Speaker 3: would he would take me to the games and and
- 8:27Speaker 3: he would go and and you know, travel the parties
- 8:30Speaker 3: they'd have.
- 8:30Speaker 1: At the end of the shutting them out to the ranch.
- 8:33Speaker 3: You know, it was just a different time, but but
- 8:37Speaker 3: a lot of the same stuff going on. Well, we
- 8:39Speaker 3: just love to support obviously the community, but that team. Uh,
- 8:45Speaker 3: and it's uh, it's an impact on you know, you
- 8:47Speaker 3: think of the thousands of people that have gone to
- 8:51Speaker 3: those games and families that that get their kids there
- 8:55Speaker 3: and all the work it takes to get to that
- 8:58Speaker 3: point where you're playing in the majors and the American Legion.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Well, and I love that that it's not just bartlsfool kids.
- 9:04Speaker 2: It's it's all the surrounding communities come and try out
- 9:08Speaker 2: for the for the Indians, and it's it's just had
- 9:11Speaker 2: a really remarkable impact on so many people.
- 9:14Speaker 1: You're right, and this sixty nine team. So one of
- 9:18Speaker 1: the things that.
- 9:18Speaker 2: We started to look at, and you'll notice in in
- 9:21Speaker 2: two of our inductees this year, we really took a
- 9:24Speaker 2: look at, you know, how can we continue to spread
- 9:28Speaker 2: out honoring all of the athletic programs within our community
- 9:33Speaker 2: and surrounding area and not just Brewing athletics. So you know,
- 9:37Speaker 2: we're taking the opportunity to not only induct this Engines team,
- 9:41Speaker 2: but also a gymnast. You know, we don't have near
- 9:45Speaker 2: enough gymnasts, swimmers, you know, engines, all of these sports.
- 9:51Speaker 1: That make up our community.
- 9:53Speaker 2: We need to continue to honor the history of and
- 9:56Speaker 2: this sixty nine Engines team, Tom is the only Engines
- 10:01Speaker 2: team to ever make the state championships.
- 10:04Speaker 1: So they are and win it. There are only.
- 10:08Speaker 2: State champions So you think about this American Legion program here.
- 10:12Speaker 2: You know, the Engine Slash Indians are are a extremely
- 10:16Speaker 2: well known program around the state and region.
- 10:19Speaker 1: And for us to have had the success that we've had.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Here and only have one team win the state title
- 10:25Speaker 2: really kind of tells you how competitive that program is.
- 10:28Speaker 2: And and this team was stacked full of great athletes
- 10:32Speaker 2: and we are and many of them are coming to
- 10:35Speaker 2: the ceremony, So we are really excited about that we've
- 10:39Speaker 2: had a chance to you know, uh, solely out Al
- 10:42Speaker 2: Sullenberger's was the coach. Sullenberger was the coach for a
- 10:46Speaker 2: long time. His grandson Chris lives haven't been that many coaches. Really,
- 10:51Speaker 2: it's remarkable and his grant, his grandson, Chris lives lives
- 10:55Speaker 2: here now and has helped us line up these guys.
- 10:58Speaker 1: It is going to be really cool.
- 11:01Speaker 3: That's awesome, and it's so you know, it's just one
- 11:03Speaker 3: of those things that we you don't really think about
- 11:06Speaker 3: all the people that are involved in it takes to
- 11:08Speaker 3: pull this off every year, and then well, you know,
- 11:11Speaker 3: you're right, this is me, you know, because volunteers would
- 11:14Speaker 3: be in the concession stands, take the tickets, you know,
- 11:17Speaker 3: they help get the team to the games. You know,
- 11:19Speaker 3: you talk about traveling sports today, but think about doing
- 11:23Speaker 3: it back in the fifties and said.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I know it, and it was quite a production. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:27Speaker 2: I agree. And then we've got so so not only
- 11:31Speaker 2: are we honoring that Engines team, but I mentioned Mike Epperson,
- 11:34Speaker 2: who was a standout gymnast, quite possibly the most well
- 11:40Speaker 2: decorated male gymnasts that we've had come out of Bartlesville.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And you know that again, that Phillips gymnastics program over
- 11:49Speaker 2: on the west side of town has been a tradition
- 11:52Speaker 2: in Bartlesville for decades and everything that the Bartows, who
- 11:55Speaker 2: are in the Hall of Fame did to run that
- 11:59Speaker 2: program for so many years was remarkable. We are really
- 12:02Speaker 2: excited to bring Mike back to town. He hasn't been
- 12:06Speaker 2: back to Bartlesville since he since shortly after you know,
- 12:10Speaker 2: leaving for college, so he is really excited. He won
- 12:13Speaker 2: a national championship as a gymnast at Nebraska, and their
- 12:18Speaker 2: teams at Nebraska are always you know, Nebraska OU are
- 12:21Speaker 2: kind of the two and LSU are kind of the
- 12:24Speaker 2: three gymnastics programs in the country that really pack power,
- 12:28Speaker 2: and he was on some pretty remarkable Nebraska squads.
- 12:32Speaker 1: We're very excited to welcome him home.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Noah Hartsock, who was again arguably the greatest basketball player
- 12:40Speaker 2: to come out of Bartlesville in the mid two thousands,
- 12:43Speaker 2: and we are really excited to bring Noah back to
- 12:47Speaker 2: town again.
- 12:47Speaker 1: He hasn't been back, he.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Thinks, since since the early twenty tens, and so we're
- 12:54Speaker 2: really excited for Noah to come back to town and
- 12:57Speaker 2: everybody to get to see and talk with him.
- 13:00Speaker 1: He had a standout career at b YU and was on.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Some really good ncuable A teams there and then went
- 13:08Speaker 2: on to coach High school basketball before hanging it up
- 13:10Speaker 2: and is a financial advisor now.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And Noah is just such a super.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Guy, great kid and just did everything right, played by
- 13:21Speaker 2: the rules, never got into fights.
- 13:23Speaker 1: He was just a.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Really really good kid and a remarkable athlete. Held the
- 13:29Speaker 2: all time scoring record at Bartlesville until David Castillo broke
- 13:33Speaker 2: it a couple of years ago, and then finally, kind
- 13:37Speaker 2: of the icing on the cake is Gerald Thompson, Coach T,
- 13:41Speaker 2: who has who has it seems like, just been in
- 13:44Speaker 2: Bartlesville forever. He probably doesn't want me saying that. I'm
- 13:47Speaker 2: not trying to imply he's old, but he's old. And
- 13:50Speaker 2: if you mentioned coach T to anybody that has played
- 13:55Speaker 2: anything in Bartlesville since about the nineteen seventies, they know
- 14:00Speaker 2: who you're talking about and the impact that he's had.
- 14:02Speaker 2: You know, he's obviously coached basketball. He was the women's
- 14:06Speaker 2: basketball coach when I was in high school and and
- 14:09Speaker 2: then has gone on to become an assistant for the
- 14:11Speaker 2: men's program.
- 14:12Speaker 3: It took me a while to find people that could
- 14:14Speaker 3: come and sit with us because they were all already
- 14:17Speaker 3: going because of Gerald.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Would and you wouldn't believe the number of people that
- 14:23Speaker 2: we've had respond to to come to this event to
- 14:26Speaker 2: honor coach TE. And again, sort of all of these
- 14:30Speaker 2: inductees somehow or another kind of crossover with Coach T.
- 14:34Speaker 1: They all know him and all remember him, and.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Just the number of lives that he has impacted.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Coaches are amazing how they know the impact they have
- 14:45Speaker 3: on lives. And Gerald, I see him in the dealership
- 14:49Speaker 3: all the time. This is well, other than my kids
- 14:53Speaker 3: playing basketball, and he was always around even when he
- 14:57Speaker 3: hasn't been coaching, He's always been around well, and that's
- 14:59Speaker 3: the He's just the number of people that he's mentored
- 15:04Speaker 3: and had an impact on and whether you played a
- 15:06Speaker 3: sport he was affiliated or not, just he he has
- 15:09Speaker 3: just been an incredible.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Person about our kids.
- 15:13Speaker 2: And remembers them and remembers their names, and he'll ask
- 15:16Speaker 2: about my sister, and I mean, it's just it's cool.
- 15:19Speaker 2: And so we're very excited to honor Coach T. And I,
- 15:23Speaker 2: like you said, I think it's going to be a
- 15:25Speaker 2: really special night. There's going to be a packed house
- 15:28Speaker 2: and so it works well that you can still get tickets.
- 15:31Speaker 2: We've got a few spots that we can squeeze in,
- 15:34Speaker 2: and so if you go to Bartlesville Sports dot Net
- 15:38Speaker 2: and click on events, you could still pick up individual
- 15:41Speaker 2: tickets and we would love for people.
- 15:42Speaker 1: To do that. But yeah, it is going to be
- 15:44Speaker 1: a great.
- 15:44Speaker 3: One mess if you know, if these are things that
- 15:47Speaker 3: were important to you or your kids in this community,
- 15:50Speaker 3: and you know, what do you think about it?
- 15:52Speaker 1: Sports have been kind of a bedrock of bartles They
- 15:54Speaker 1: really have a lot, I.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Know, sixty six ers to the swimming bats ram to
- 15:59Speaker 3: the g mnastics you mentioned, and the great high school
- 16:02Speaker 3: teams and the American Legion kind of back all.
- 16:04Speaker 2: The way to the beginning of our community. It's had
- 16:07Speaker 2: it's had some kind of role in the lives. You know.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Another theme of the show a lot is you know,
- 16:15Speaker 3: whether it's sports or something else your kids get involved in.
- 16:18Speaker 3: In our community, there's always a place to connect and
- 16:21Speaker 3: to learn things that are going to be life skills
- 16:24Speaker 3: that go on and you know, I know, I mean
- 16:27Speaker 3: team sports are something I'm always interviewing for and looking
- 16:31Speaker 3: for people that understand that, you know, what it is
- 16:33Speaker 3: to be a part of a team, whether you're whether
- 16:36Speaker 3: you're a star or not. Truthfully, sometimes it's those guys
- 16:39Speaker 3: that the sixth man so to speak, or the people.
- 16:42Speaker 1: That hold it together, that hold the rope.
- 16:45Speaker 3: You know that, you know, we all do that at
- 16:47Speaker 3: some point for most of us. They're not going to
- 16:49Speaker 3: be Michael Jordan or you know, that's just not what's
- 16:53Speaker 3: you know, very rarely does that happen. But the team
- 16:57Speaker 3: needs those people that sacrifice themselves for the whole group
- 17:01Speaker 3: to succeed and to get better and team uh and
- 17:05Speaker 3: learning to win and lose UH, to to fight through challenges,
- 17:10Speaker 3: to to you know, when they call the play, to
- 17:13Speaker 3: actually perform the play, to be you know, you're a musician, Tom,
- 17:17Speaker 3: and you know, to play the same song, to play
- 17:19Speaker 3: the notes, right. I mean these are things that sports
- 17:22Speaker 3: can teach people.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Agree, yeah, and again I love what you're saying, and
- 17:27Speaker 2: you think, and then that kind of pushes down.
- 17:29Speaker 1: To people like coach t that that have.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Had you know, it's not just on court or on
- 17:35Speaker 2: field lessons, it's it's life lessons that you learn through
- 17:38Speaker 2: adversity and and you know that the things that you
- 17:42Speaker 2: have to fight through to find success and and you
- 17:46Speaker 2: know again you can you're your point is well made.
- 17:49Speaker 2: You can learn those in orchestra, you can learn those
- 17:51Speaker 2: in band, you can learn those going to Triy County Tech.
- 17:54Speaker 1: I mean the animals.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Yeah, if you think about the the size of our
- 17:59Speaker 2: ag pro now at the high school, you know, that
- 18:01Speaker 2: started with twenty five kids a couple of years ago
- 18:03Speaker 2: and there's two hundred in it now.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I mean, it's just remarkable the.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Opportunities that kids have to learn leadership skills and opportunities
- 18:13Speaker 2: to grow as a person.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And yeah, we could talk all day, but you make
- 18:16Speaker 1: it well, that.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Is that's one of those things that we're passionate about.
- 18:20Speaker 3: And that's why my grandfather started sponsoring the baseball team
- 18:24Speaker 3: and lots of other organizations and he and my grandmother
- 18:28Speaker 3: that they were very passionate about about those opportunities that
- 18:33Speaker 3: are provided to kids from all you know, backgrounds, and
- 18:37Speaker 3: you know, it's it's so.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Important and our community is so rich in it, I think.
- 18:42Speaker 3: And that's one of the really neat things about bartlesvielt Well.
- 18:45Speaker 2: And it's got to be cool, I mean, and really
- 18:48Speaker 2: you know, kind of heartwarming for you to see your
- 18:51Speaker 2: family's name associated with something like the American Legion Program
- 18:57Speaker 2: for so many years and see that continue and you know,
- 19:00Speaker 2: whenever they talk about the Indians program, it's always the
- 19:04Speaker 2: you know, the dungeons Indians and that's that's cool.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I think that that's when I've had lots of people asked,
- 19:10Speaker 3: you know it keep going after you sold the Ford Store,
- 19:13Speaker 3: and of course.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it's more about it's.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Not a brand like that.
- 19:21Speaker 3: It's about dungeons in our community and uh and and
- 19:25Speaker 3: those opportunities it provides for those guys to have to
- 19:30Speaker 3: take the field in the summer, to be in the
- 19:33Speaker 3: you know, the spotlight a little bit because they are
- 19:36Speaker 3: at the end of their careers and when they're at
- 19:40Speaker 3: senior level and there and it's that you know, you know,
- 19:43Speaker 3: everybody typically, you know, it is one of those pretty
- 19:46Speaker 3: well attended sports activity sure during the summer, and you
- 19:50Speaker 3: know from the wind ged and all the you know,
- 19:52Speaker 3: the great traditions that we have.
- 19:55Speaker 1: So cool.
- 19:55Speaker 3: It is one of those things we want to celebrate
- 19:58Speaker 3: and I thank the committe for helping us do that.
- 20:02Speaker 3: And well you mentioned all the other stuff going on.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's something I don't really want to
- 20:07Speaker 3: talk about too.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Yeah, we've got next week.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Next Wednesday is our is our Fall Sports Showcase where
- 20:13Speaker 2: we take the opportunity to have the coaches of all
- 20:18Speaker 2: of our fall and some of our winter early winter
- 20:20Speaker 2: sports come and introduce one of their athletes and the
- 20:25Speaker 2: parents all come and it's out at Hillcrest at eleven
- 20:28Speaker 2: thirty on on next Wednesday, And and that's a really
- 20:33Speaker 2: cool opportunity. You know, football and basketball get a lot
- 20:36Speaker 2: of attention, but we want the cross country coach and
- 20:39Speaker 2: the swim coach and the cheer coach to be able
- 20:42Speaker 2: to come out and you know, bring an athlete and
- 20:45Speaker 2: really introduce their programs and talk a little bit about
- 20:48Speaker 2: their year that they soccer.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Soccer, Yeah, soccer, yeah, so yeah, soccer.
- 20:53Speaker 2: And then and then in the spring, you know, we'll
- 20:56Speaker 2: do baseball and track and tennis and golf, and it's
- 21:00Speaker 2: just there's so many things that are our high school supports.
- 21:06Speaker 1: It wise, we think too about all the changes in sports.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I know, I know what you think about nil and
- 21:12Speaker 3: college sports. Now, my kids both played Division III college soccer. Yeah,
- 21:17Speaker 3: and you know, it's it's pretty much like it always was.
- 21:20Speaker 3: It's amateur athletes. Uh, they come from all over and
- 21:25Speaker 3: they play the game they've been playing for a long time.
- 21:27Speaker 1: If you get to that point, they're not doing it.
- 21:29Speaker 3: For all that much glory or fame or anything. We're
- 21:33Speaker 3: doing it because they want to be a part of
- 21:35Speaker 3: this team and it creates that bond that frankly goes
- 21:40Speaker 3: on for a lifetime.
- 21:41Speaker 2: And it's so funny that you say that. I'm gonna
- 21:43Speaker 2: humble brag here for a second. But my daughter Abby
- 21:47Speaker 2: had the honor of working for three or four years
- 21:50Speaker 2: for George and Laura Bush at the at the Bush
- 21:53Speaker 2: Institute at SMU where they established their library, and she
- 21:57Speaker 2: left for.
- 21:57Speaker 1: A new job recently. That was a great opportunity for her.
- 22:01Speaker 2: But as part of that, the President wanted to have
- 22:05Speaker 2: her in for coffee just to thank her for her
- 22:07Speaker 2: time with the with the Bush Institute and and told
- 22:11Speaker 2: her she could invite her family. So we went down
- 22:12Speaker 2: and did that on Tuesday and just had coffee with
- 22:16Speaker 2: the President, which was really cool. But one of the
- 22:18Speaker 2: things that was part of that was he had spent
- 22:21Speaker 2: the weekend before this out at the Walker Cup, the
- 22:24Speaker 2: golf tournament out at Cyprus Point in uh in Monterey,
- 22:31Speaker 2: and he said, I absolutely loved the Walker Cup because
- 22:36Speaker 2: of the amateur aspect to it, he said, the Ryder
- 22:40Speaker 2: Cup and kind of pga to her, I could I
- 22:42Speaker 2: could take her leave that the money has infected, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 2: those sports so much that it's not the same. But
- 22:48Speaker 2: he said, amateur athletics and and that he said, that's
- 22:53Speaker 2: why I love getting to meet all the Walker Cup participants.
- 22:56Speaker 2: And he said, and he knows all their names. He
- 23:00Speaker 2: knew all of the top amateur golfers from the Dallas area.
- 23:04Speaker 2: He really pays attention to it because of he said,
- 23:07Speaker 2: because of his passion for amateur athletics. And I think
- 23:10Speaker 2: that's really cool. And it's exactly what you're saying about
- 23:13Speaker 2: the pure sport of it. There's nothing else on the line.
- 23:17Speaker 1: No, actually school too.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I know that it puts a real burden to be
- 23:22Speaker 3: able to juggle all of that together, to go travel
- 23:25Speaker 3: with your team and get you talk about leadership less
- 23:28Speaker 3: to go class in the morning and study all the
- 23:31Speaker 3: time and still get up and go to practice before
- 23:33Speaker 3: class or after class. You know, it's a it is
- 23:36Speaker 3: a lesson and and something that that you know, everybody
- 23:40Speaker 3: deserves an opportunity to learn one way or I agree
- 23:43Speaker 3: a million percent that Before we get done, I did
- 23:46Speaker 3: want to talk a little bit about that Toyota meeting
- 23:49Speaker 3: I went to. It was so inspirational, Uh, Akio Toyota
- 23:53Speaker 3: came as the chairman of the company. He wasn't planning
- 23:55Speaker 3: to because of all the craziness in the in the world.
- 23:59Speaker 1: These day, with tariffs and stuff.
- 24:02Speaker 3: He thought it good to come and talk to us,
- 24:04Speaker 3: and you know, he was so reassuring.
- 24:06Speaker 1: And you know, Toyota.
- 24:07Speaker 3: One of the things I love about Toyota is how
- 24:09Speaker 3: they plan and they plan and they plan the way
- 24:12Speaker 3: out in the future and they you know, so they
- 24:14Speaker 3: haven't had to adjust a lot to this. They're also
- 24:17Speaker 3: just a really strong company, a strong balance sheet. They
- 24:20Speaker 3: haven't had to raise prices or really change much of
- 24:23Speaker 3: anything they do. We had we were kind of surprised
- 24:27Speaker 3: to have a message from jd Vance, the vice president,
- 24:31Speaker 3: and in the meeting and acknowledging Toyota's investment in America
- 24:37Speaker 3: and the fact that nearly seventy percent of the cars
- 24:40Speaker 3: we sell are already built here, and that had Akio
- 24:44Speaker 3: told us he was inviting American car makers to come
- 24:48Speaker 3: to Toyota, to Japan and sell their cars through Toyota dealerships.
- 24:54Speaker 3: Wowout having to invest in infrastructure and dealership. Yeah, as
- 24:58Speaker 3: a way to equalize the the trade. One of the
- 25:01Speaker 3: goals all these tariffs is to try to make that
- 25:05Speaker 3: and and they're working with the Japanese government to reduce
- 25:08Speaker 3: some of the other barriers. But you know, it just
- 25:11Speaker 3: shows kind of Toyota's values and they they definitely I
- 25:17Speaker 3: think competition is a good thing and want to take
- 25:20Speaker 3: care of mostly focus on their customers and what a
- 25:24Speaker 3: great product lineup they've got and have coming. We got
- 25:28Speaker 3: to hear about some really special stuff that will be
- 25:31Speaker 3: right around the corner. There's a new Wrap four we
- 25:34Speaker 3: already knew about that will be out next year. The
- 25:37Speaker 3: best selling vehicle in North America this last year for
- 25:41Speaker 3: the first time they've won that ever, and that anybody's
- 25:45Speaker 3: beaten an old truck we used to sell.
- 25:48Speaker 2: The How cool was it to see him and hear
- 25:53Speaker 2: the actual guy?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Everybody was.
- 25:57Speaker 3: I mean there's a lot of people were crying. Yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 3: and you know it's really emotional.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't get to do that very well, No,
- 26:02Speaker 1: it was.
- 26:03Speaker 3: It's it's a lot of work to get there, but
- 26:05Speaker 3: that that hour and a half of that business meeting
- 26:09Speaker 3: was just so inspirational. I came back, I met with
- 26:12Speaker 3: everybody at the dealership to really remind them what we're
- 26:15Speaker 3: a part of yeah, that it's bigger then just a company.
- 26:20Speaker 3: You know, there's something there that's new. I mean, we
- 26:23Speaker 3: talked about the future, about things like dealership selling robots
- 26:27Speaker 3: and and rockets, and you know how when mobility goes
- 26:31Speaker 3: to space. This is far out. How far out Toyota
- 26:34Speaker 3: plans we talked about the NIXT Corolla will be the
- 26:38Speaker 3: first car in the industry that you can get an
- 26:40Speaker 3: in turtle combustion engine, a hybrid, a plug in hybrid,
- 26:45Speaker 3: a battery electric vehicle, and if the time is right,
- 26:48Speaker 3: a hydrogen platform there all in one one vehicle, so
- 26:54Speaker 3: rather than having to build you know, to one plant
- 26:58Speaker 3: and all those power trains. It's it's radical. All other
- 27:02Speaker 3: company has managed to do that. And they're not doing
- 27:05Speaker 3: it on their high end vehicle right right, They're doing
- 27:08Speaker 3: on the entry level.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Really incredible.
- 27:12Speaker 3: They do the same thing with their safety Sense product,
- 27:15Speaker 3: which is one of the best safety systems in the
- 27:18Speaker 3: auto industry. They take great you know, they do all
- 27:22Speaker 3: their engineering theirself. They're developing their own AI systems, you know,
- 27:26Speaker 3: help us fix cars. You know that where our texts
- 27:29Speaker 3: will be able to get the knowledge of all the
- 27:32Speaker 3: engineers and field service people around the world rather than
- 27:36Speaker 3: calling up our guy who might.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Be in the Lubbock or something. And you know he's
- 27:40Speaker 1: great and he knows a lot.
- 27:41Speaker 3: But imagine having the knowledge of all of them at
- 27:44Speaker 3: your fingertips and you've got a tough problem to fix.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Help great buddy with their car. Yeah, it's a great
- 27:49Speaker 1: application of that.
- 27:50Speaker 3: It just shows how Toyota is really thinking about things
- 27:55Speaker 3: and really a great partner for us.
- 27:57Speaker 1: We're really proud to be a part of that.
- 28:00Speaker 3: And you know, there was a whole bunch more at
- 28:02Speaker 3: the meeting, but we're going to run out of time here,
- 28:04Speaker 3: Tom prety quick.
- 28:07Speaker 1: But that is great. They took that all of the
- 28:09Speaker 1: above thing for fueling very much to heart. Oh yeah, exactly.
- 28:13Speaker 1: They have.
- 28:15Speaker 3: And you know they didn't really switch all their battery
- 28:19Speaker 3: electric vehicles when everybody else did. They stayed with everyone else.
- 28:23Speaker 3: We have them, Yes, we sell them, but we're here
- 28:25Speaker 3: to serve our customers. What they want to buy, we're
- 28:28Speaker 3: going to sell and they're a great company to work
- 28:30Speaker 3: with and I love it. We're really proud to be there.
