Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's versus New Orleans Saints Preseason Week 1, it is game day finally, Jaguar's versus Saints in the Superdom 4 p.m. Eastern Time.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's preseason, but it's still game day and we haven't been able to say that around these parts.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: Since January, it has been a long time coming.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's Saturday, August 15th.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: Now as I mentioned, your Jaguar's will have their first preseason game later today, which is very exciting.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean,
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's a game in which it's really about the young players and the depth players.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about that all week.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen kind of shared that earlier in the week.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar has had coach that starters, their goal was to go into the joint practice and get some good work done in a controlled environment where you're not tackling to the ground.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: But for the rookies, some of the second year players and certainly depth players just trying
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: this is your time to shine.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, it's going to be fun to see, I think, especially the rookies, but also some depth players, because like you never know which depth players that you don't think will make the roster that could start out on the practice squad could actually end up
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: being a part of the Jaguar's future in a significant way.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you just think about Matt Dickerson, right?
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: That was a guy who was picked up late, practice squad type of guy for a long time, ends up being a high-impact player, at least you know, a player who has a significant reps for the Jaguar's during the regular season.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: You talk about undrafted free agents last year.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: Danny Streggo, BJ Green, both made the roster.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: to Barman Hamid, an undrafted for agent from last year.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now competing to make their roster.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Branson calms an undrafted for agent from last year.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: Now competing for the starting linebacker job with Ventral Miller, I expect to see those guys out there competing tonight.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there will be too many other potential starters playing outside of unless any rookies earned starting jobs, which doesn't feel likely.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the rookies you have,
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: Nate Borkerture at Titan will play.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: I assume he'll play in this game.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I assume he'll play a lot during the regular season based on what we've seen so far and based on the fact that the Jaguar doesn't want to get into a lot of 12 person.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: But he's certainly not the starter over Britain's strange Tanner Coziel at Titan as well.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think you can expect to see him.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's a really talented receiving threat.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll definitely be keeping an eye on him
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: across the, you know, offense.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams, Josh Cameron, both of these guys have made a lot of plays for the Jaguars throughout.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: For CJ Williams, he got off to a better start because he didn't come in injured.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Cameron had the ankle that the Jaguars knew about.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: It was a pre-existing injury.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Williams has had a really good spring into summer now and Josh Cameron as soon as he stepped on the practice field, he's made a lot of plays to CJ Williams more of the just kind of all around, excuse me, balanced receiver whereas Josh Cameron has that big physical frame that people get excited about combined with a little quickness and twitch.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_00]: So those two guys are definitely guys I'm going to be keeping an eye on.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Can the offensive line hold up?
- 3:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they're down a bunch of guys right now.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: They had to sign players like Jerome Christian and Sam Moosterfer within the last couple weeks just to have the amount of depth that they need on the offensive line.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: So that'll definitely be something to watch.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: When it comes to running back, I mean, I would expect you'll see Amira Abdullah, DJ Dallas, Jamari Taylor.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really excited to see if Jamari Taylor can look like the type of player.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: that I thought he was in the draft.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he was going to get drafted, right?
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: He ended up not getting drafted.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Wars got him as an undrafted free agent.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: Could he be the type of player that does a good enough job stays on your practice squad and then next year is in the mix?
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like the Jack Wars running back room is kind of squared away for the next couple years because the Jack Sign Chris Rodriguez to a two year deal, Liquan Allen and Bacial Tutor on their rookie contracts.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be shocked if the Jaguar shake up down the line, but for now, I think you can expect to see a lot of, you know, Jamari Taylor, Amir Abdullah, and DJ Dallas, and that role just for this week, and then, you know, flip into the defensive side of the ball.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: There's a bunch of young guys competing.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Will B.J.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: Green, Danny Striggout, both play.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: I definitely think Zach Derfey and Wesley Williams are two rookie defense events we'll play on this one.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: their, their guys that need the experience.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: And Derfey is more of the past rush.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know, juice, explosiveness has created a lot of disruption throughout training camp already.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: Wesley Williams, you're bigger, a little bit more physical.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: You expect him to kind of just execute his assignments type of player.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: On the interior, how about the Jaguar's top draft pick on the defensive side of the ball, Albert Regis?
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's had some ups and downs.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen has talked about that, right?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's had some ups and downs throughout camp so far.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: And he's a player that I think it would just be nice to see him play stout, execute his assignments, be a Simon Sound player for the Jaguars, and this one, because, you know, he might not need to be relied on early on in the season, but at some point when you're talking about a third round pick, you expect them to do something for you.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: When you think about this game, wins and losses in the preseason really don't matter, right?
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars, O2 and 1 last year, the Saints, O2 and 1 last year, neither of these regimes, coaching staffs has won a preseason game, but
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars are one and a half point road underdogs.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I'll be taking them on the road against the Saints over at my bookie.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Neither team will be playing many starters.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Saints will have the advantage at quarterback Spencer Rattler, Zach Wilson, but I think the Jaguars have better depth throughout.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that there will be a little bit of pride after, you know, a lot of talk about the Jaguars kind of not
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: matching the Saints on the practice field on Thursday.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I think that I'm going to take the underdog, you know, if the Jaguar's tie this team again, like they did last year or if they win or lose by a point or less, the Jaguar's will cover the spread.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: So that's what I'm looking at over at my bookie.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_00]: If you disagree with me or you want to take a look at another pre-season game that are all up there at my bookie, you can find all the action you want and bet it.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: wherever you are when the game kicks off.

- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: It gives you protection on your first play.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you sign up with my promo code Duval, that's DUVAL all caps, opt into the betback bonus and take your first shot with a safety net.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: If you're first wager loses, you get it right back.

- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: No questions asked.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: Get in on all the NFL action now at my bookie anytime,
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: anywhere that's my bookie code Duval D.U.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: V.A.L., so shout out to my bookie.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: Now, we're talking about rookies that need to play well.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think eventual Miller and Branson Colms are both out there.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: They're not rookies, but they're players that like, Ventrel, he, in my opinion, really should have the upper hand, because he has more experience over Branson Colms.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: but Ventrol, I think both players can execute in their past game and the run game.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Ventrol has more of an advantage in the run game.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Whereas Brandon has a little bit more in advantage in the past game from a physical standpoint.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's just a little bit more nimble, he's a former receiver, he's just kind of has that skill set in the past game to do a little bit more than ventral, whereas ventral Miller is kind of an old school downhill run thumper, who can also execute as a zone dropper.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: in coverage.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: So those two guys, I'm really excited to see, I mean, they've been two of these stars of camp, bar none.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm defensive side of the ball.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Both of them have made plays, multiple plays just about every single day, coming downhill and making plays in coverage.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: So definitely excited to see that when you get into the back end, I mean,
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: in the secondary of the defense like I'm really excited to see well okay linebacker still Parker Hughes seven-thrampic what can he do I don't I don't see a path for him making the 53 this year and that's the only draft pick that I kind of feel that way about.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll just have to kind of see how it plays out here and getting tape on these guys, getting to watch these guys in a game setting, tackling to the ground, playing to the whistle through the whistle a little bit, maybe.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: But, and being able to kind of like watch the different all 22 in different angles and replay it back, that would be really beneficial for the coaching staff and for myself to kind of
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: evaluate where we're headed with all this stuff, but in the secondary, I really would love to see Jalen Husky who was a...
- 9:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, turn over machine in college.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: I would love to see him get his hands on the football.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar's third round pick this year, the safety at a Maryland who has some corner experience, right?
- 9:57[SPEAKER_00]: Another safety U.S. corner experience is Caleb Branson.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar's third round pick last year, who missed the whole season last year.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: And he's a player that I definitely view as a future starter for the Jax.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: Very good size, great tackler in college.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't had the opportunity to really tackle the ground in the NFL who get that against the Saints, but insane athleticism, 4 3 40 R-40 inch vertical, has played nickel, has played outside, converted to safety right before the draft, you know, did some of that at senior bull.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's looked good.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Eric Murray is clearly still a starter with Antonio Johnson, those are the two guys at safety, but when you get into three safety looks, I think you look at
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: at Caleb Ransal for sure.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Rayon Lane though, I mean, he's no slouch either.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_00]: I know he's a special team stud, but that's a guy who I think really has an opportunity to potentially get on the field on defense and three safety sets too.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I wouldn't count him out at corner, are you gonna see Travis Hunter?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: I doubt it.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_00]: No official word on that yet, but probably we'll get something throughout the day where they kind of talk about that.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, keep your eyes peeled on Twitter, et cetera.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, you might get like a wrap-a-port tweet or something like that about Travis Hunter if he's playing, but I would expect him not to play, you know, coming off an injury, I just, when you're getting the work that you can get in the joint practices, I'm not sure why you would have such an important player out there, you know.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: The amount of draft capital the Jaguars used on Travis Hunter.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: was just I mean it was bolt.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And so to me he's like as valuable as like a quarterback just because he's a star two positions.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't think you need to have him out there, but
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Beyond that, you've got Jabarmu Hammond who feels like a roster lock now at this point.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: Really, really good spring and summer.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Excited to see him play.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: Excited to see.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Devin Marshall was a rookie undrafted for Agent this year that I thought would get drafted.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: He's had some ups and downs, but he's played a lot of good football for the Jaguars already.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_00]: He was the number two rated zone corner and college football last year behind Chris Johnson.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a guy that I really like just didn't have the kind of the testing that you would look for in a high draft pick.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_00]: But I still thought he would get drafted and then you also have Preston Hodge competing.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: You have Cory Ballantine who is a vet who's been around who I expect to see competing out there.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: So there's some guys and can they match the level of intensity how is the coaching, like, or they put in positions to succeed defensively by Anthony Camponele on offense-grantiedense.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's getting to call most of the plays and stuff.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: So like, how is he putting his guys in position to succeed?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: It'll just be fun to see.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really ready for some football ready to be able to enjoy the game and then also, you know, see these different storylines kind of unfold, which rookies can actually make an impact, which, you know, depth players can fight for a roster spot, all that stuff and then be able to get to dive into the tape again later on.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 13:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm very excited.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully you all are to really appreciate you turning it, tuning in.
