- 1:23and it's a mouthful, so sit back and listen to the laired Douglas Douglas
- 1:30of Heatherscope Matter from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dellar. This is
- 1:38Harry Branston and Philadelphia Mutual Liability and Casualty Company. Oh hi, Harry,
- 1:42what's on your mind. I have a case for you, a very important
- 1:44one. Good tell me about it. John, did you ever hear of
- 1:46Lead Douglas Douglas of Heatherscode. Lord, say that slowly with you, Land
- 1:51Douglas Douglas of Heatherscode. Sorry, I left Mike Kilts and bagpipes on the
- 1:55other side of the drink. Oh yeah, I'm feeling real shore this morning.
- 1:59But what about Lar Douglas Douglas something or other? Could you come down
- 2:02here to Philadelphia and see me. I hate to be so blunt about it,
- 2:05old boy, but what's in it for me? A nice retainer fee
- 2:07in any event, and of course expenses and your regular commission if anything happens
- 2:12to Laird Douglas Douglas. Yes, okay, Harry, I'm on my way.
- 2:15Oh John, Yeah, come down by plate, will you the first
- 2:19one you can get urgent? Yes? John, Very tonight and every weekday
- 2:30night. Bob Bailey. In the transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action
- 2:34Packed Expense Account, America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator, Yours truly, Johnny Dollar
- 2:52Expense accounts submitted by special Investigator Johnny Dollar to Harry Branson at the Philadelphia Mutual
- 2:57Liability and Casualty Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following is an accounting of expenditures
- 3:01incurred during my investigation of the laired Douglas Douglas of Heatherscote matter, whoever laired
- 3:07Douglas Douglas is and whether investigation is the proper term at this point, who
- 3:12knows? In any event, Well expense account AUTAM one twenty two fifty air
- 3:20transportation of miscellaneous Hartford to New York to Philadelphia for a change. I decided
- 3:24to stay at the Benjamin Franklin not only because it was convenient to Harry Branson's
- 3:28office on Walnut Street, that is, the office of Filly Mutual Liability and
- 3:30Casualty, but because I'd heard it was a nice hotel. It was,
- 3:35and it was convenient to everything else in the center of town theaters, good
- 3:38restaurants, nice stores, even a nightclub. Well, anyhow, when I
- 3:43got to my room, I found a half dozen urgent messages that Harry had
- 3:46called pretty good indication that his lordship Douglas Douglas of or at least this case
- 3:51was pretty important. So instead of bothering to unpack, I had the bellboy
- 3:54dump my luggage tipped him and was standing there debating whether I'd better forego a
- 3:59quick shower and change of clothes when the phone rang Johnny Dollar, John,
- 4:04didn't you get my messages? Why haven't you called? I've been waiting to
- 4:06hear from you. What's wrong? They take it easy, Harry, I
- 4:10just this minute got in. Oh well, I hope you're coming right on
- 4:13over here to my office. What's the matter. Something happened to this clan
- 4:15of yours? No, not yet, but being you, you're expecting the
- 4:17worst. Huh. And look, you still haven't told me a thing about
- 4:20this emergency or whatever you want to call it, John, It is an
- 4:24emergency because of the time element. You see. Why don't we waste time
- 4:29on the phone. Well, this was your call, not whine. All
- 4:30right, all right, I'm sorry. I'll be waiting for you, and
- 4:32Harry, I'll be there. Still knowing nothing whatsoever about what was going on.
- 4:42I decided I'd better be prepared for anything, so I slipped a thirty
- 4:46eight cold out of my bag and took it along expense account item two sixty
- 4:49five cents. Care fair. I've said it before when I handled the Amar
- 4:55Ego case for him. Harry Branson is a good insurance man, but a
- 4:58worry ward I kind of hoped he was making the usual mountain out of the
- 5:01usual mole hill this time. However, when my cab pulled up in front
- 5:05of his office building, he was standing waiting on the sidewalk out front.
- 5:11Hey, I keep the change, John, John? What took you so
- 5:17long? Huh? Thank goodness you're here, Harry. What are you doing
- 5:20out here? Lose your office or just forget the key? I almost wish
- 5:24I had, John. We have a problem, a serious one, yeah,
- 5:27with Lard Douglas. Douglas of Heatherscote, Heatherscote. He's up in my
- 5:30office now. Sounds like international intrigue. Has Scotland declared war on us or
- 5:34something? This is no time for levity. He's up in the office now
- 5:39and you must take over immediately. It's a very serious situation. Come okay,
- 5:45what's it all about? As Lard Douglas died and oh no, no,
- 5:48you said he was up in your office, and I'm sure you don't
- 5:50mean just his body. Yes, he's there with missus, Peter Malcolm,
- 5:54Kelly Van Pikon, Kelly v h are you kidding? I certainly am not.
- 5:58You see, she insists that you act is his bodyguard. Oh no,
- 6:00wait a minute, Harry, unfortunately, or rather fortunately for you,
- 6:04thirteenth floor place. Yes, sir, unfortunately I said, thirteenth floor operator,
- 6:09please quickly, yes, sir, so Harry, yeah, man,
- 6:12will you please start the salvator immediately, got to wait for the signals,
- 6:15sir, signal. This is an emergency take off immediately emergency. Yes,
- 6:18it involves Led Douglas. Douglas of Heather's Cot. Oh, well, sure
- 6:21if it's who good Man, good Man. Okay, now you were saying,
- 6:28Harry, was I unfortunately something? Oh? Oh yes, of course,
- 6:32Fortunately for you, she was quite cognizant of the fact. Was cognisant
- 6:36missus Peter Malcolm, Kelly van Pyton. She knew about the excellent work you
- 6:41did for us in connection with the Ricardo Amerigo case not long ago. Excellent
- 6:45detective work. She called it. Thirteenth four. You remember the case Ricardo
- 6:48the concert violinist who disappeared. Presumably, yeah, I remember, and you
- 6:51are almost intuitive deduction that he wasn't at it all, but had merely stayed
- 6:56the whole thing to make it look Is that Harry oh, yes, of
- 6:59course thirteen, you means, Peter Malcolm Kelly Van Excuse me, mister,
- 7:02but I'm getting signals from the other floor. Quite right, you should,
- 7:05as I started to say, John, she is one of our biggest personal
- 7:09policy Ho. Good, But hadn't we better get into your office and meet
- 7:12her? Well? Yes, yes, but I want you to know about
- 7:14the personal premiums alone. They run to something over twenty thousand dollars a year.
- 7:18Mister. Please, Oh she is an important client. Yes, yes,
- 7:21and that's why I'm I didn't hesitate to acceed to her request that you'd
- 7:25be called in on this case. I called you, and here you are,
- 7:29mister, please, oh, well get us up to the Oh oh
- 7:31we're here. Why didn't you tell us? Come John, mister? If
- 7:35I was to tell you what I'd like to write, my office is right
- 7:41this way, John, come please. Hey, look, you better calm
- 7:44down, Harry and give me the dope on this case right from the beginning.
- 7:46Yes, yes, i'd better, all right, missus. Peter Malcolm
- 7:51Kelly Van Pithon is a very important client, has been for years, so
- 7:56you said. But there are a lot of things you haven't said, like
- 8:00what is she going to do with this Laird Douglas character, and why is
- 8:03he so important? It's this way, John, The policy on him runs
- 8:05to five thousand dollars no double indemnity, which is good. As a matter
- 8:09of fact, the policy on him was purely a favorite of Missus Kelly van
- 8:13Pyten, you know, considering some short life expectancy and all, Oh,
- 8:16I don't know, and has doted you something? Well hardly or are you
- 8:20being facetious again? But you said, hey, how old is he?
- 8:24His birthday is next month May seventh, to be exact, he'll be four
- 8:26years old. Four. That's right, short life expectance. Of course,
- 8:31you see, John, a minute, wait a minute, Ah, some
- 8:35horrible disease or something. Eh, what's the matter with him? John?
- 8:39You wanted this from the beginning, so I'll give it to you from the
- 8:43beginning. Okay. But Harry, if you hadn't been for Missus van Piten's
- 8:46own policies totaling something in the neighborhood of half a million more than Harry,
- 8:50why we'd never have written the one on Lord Douglas Douglas of Heather's quote.
- 8:54So now we've cleared that, Harry, we passed your office three or four
- 8:58doors ago. Oh yes, but as I'm sure you understand, I wanted
- 9:03to give you some of the background before you talk with Missus Van Piden.
- 9:05After all you ask for. Yes, yes, I guess I did.
- 9:09But what you've given me so far has landed me smack dab in the department
- 9:13of utter confusion, and I'm beginning to think maybe I have company. Oh
- 9:18where right here you, Harry? Now, look, why don't we quietly
- 9:22stroll into your office and let me get the whole thing from Missus Kelly van
- 9:26Piden herself, or better still, from Laird Douglas Douglas. But you couldn't,
- 9:31of course, not what at least not from him? Why not?
- 9:35John? Will you please stop joking? This is serious business. Very look,
- 9:43Harry, there there is one thing I'd like to talk over before we
- 9:46go in to see him them somebody. Yeah, well, apparently the life
- 9:52and or welfare of this laired Douglas Douglas isn't danger Oh, no doubt about
- 9:56it, No doubt about it. I thought I'd made that very clear to
- 9:58you. Yeah, well, you said you've written only a five thousand dollars
- 10:03policy on them. That's right, five thousand dollars and purely yeah, yeah,
- 10:05yeah, I know all about that. Now. Look I don't want
- 10:07to seem crass about it, Harry, but my commission, if anything were
- 10:11to happen to him, wouldn't amount to a hillobines, Which is precisely why
- 10:16I told you you will be paid a retainer while you're on the case,
- 10:18the most generous one generous one by you, by missus Kelly van Python.
- 10:24How much? Well, John, Now, mind you, this may not
- 10:28require your services for more than a week or so as bodyguard, that is
- 10:31how much? And of course she has authorized an expense account. Ah,
- 10:35but mind you, John, not the usual kind that you seem to have
- 10:39the knack of piling up beyond all reason. Clearly a completely honest, legitimate
- 10:45accounting how much? As a matter of co fact, I have assured her
- 10:50that it will total no more than the amount of the retainer. She is
- 10:54prepared to pay you any more than that, And well, you have a
- 10:58lot of explaining to do, Harry. How much is this retainer to be?
- 11:01If I take the case, I might even go so far seven hundred
- 11:05and fifty dollars per week, all fraction thereof, And I am sure you
- 11:09will agree that that what's the matter job seven fifty a week plus expenses when
- 11:15there's only a five thousand dollars policy involved, that's right. But if this
- 11:18four year old laired Douglas Douglas of Hath the Scoute. Yeah, if he's
- 11:22only worth a five thousand dollars policy? And what was that crack about short
- 11:26life expectance? John? I told you he is already four years old.
- 11:31Oh look start all over again, will you, Harry? Yes? No?
- 11:33And second thought, perhaps you were right. Perhaps you'd better get the
- 11:37details directly from missus Peter, from Kelly N. Pyton. I know now,
- 11:39Look, Harry, I think i'd better I'd better get it from somebody
- 11:43you're incidentally, John, you understand, of course, that your services will
- 11:46be required only during the affair at bala Kinwood, and not one minute.
- 11:50I don't understand what's balack Kinwood out around Westchester, outside the city one of
- 11:54the suburbs. Very nice suburb too. That is where Laird Douglas Douglas Hea
- 11:58the Scout. Yes, John, that is where he will appear. And
- 12:01you or missus Kelly van Piden or both, if you think his life will
- 12:03be in danger exactly? Oh, John. I know you are just joking
- 12:07me all the time. I wish I know here we are and everything will
- 12:11be clearer. Oh, thank heavens, dear mister Branson, I was afraid
- 12:15something had happened to you. You were gone so long you really had me
- 12:18quite worried. I'm so sorry, but I had hoped to tell mister Dollar
- 12:22something of this affair, and I'm afraid we loitered on the way up.
- 12:26Missus Kelly van Piden. This is mister John Dollar. Oh, you wonderful,
- 12:30wonderful man. I'm so glad that you've agreed to take on this assignment.
- 12:35You see, Learrd Douglas. Douglas means everything to me, and I
- 12:39have the utmost confidence in you. I'm sure Lead Douglas will too well.
- 12:45Thank you very much. But where is he? Why? Yes, Missus
- 12:48Van Pyton, what's happened to him? Oh, don't worry, don't worry,
- 12:50my dear. He's all right. But after all, he is so
- 12:54temperamental. I fear he got a bit impatient waiting for you. And I
- 12:58know you forgive him, you will, won't you? Yes, yes,
- 13:03of course? But where is he? He's asleep, mister Branson in your
- 13:05inner office. He sat down in your chair and fell fast asleep. Oh
- 13:11if I could only relax that way. But you must meet him, mister
- 13:16Dollar. Yes, I'd certainly like to, of course you would, and
- 13:20I know he'll want to meet you gently now. Oh good, he's awake.
- 13:28Oh no, that's lair Leir Douglas Douglas of Heatherscoat. This is mister
- 13:35Johnny Dollars. Let go, mister Dollars lakes Dear Johnny Dollar, Ral Johnny,
- 14:03Oh hi, raight, just got your message. What are you doing
- 14:05in Philadelphia? Oh? A case for filly Mutual Liability and Casualty and I
- 14:09may need your help. What do you know about Laired Douglas Douglas of Heatherscote.
- 14:13Why he's one of Scotland's finest. Wait a minute, that's your case,
- 14:18yep, insurance and bodyguard. How's about lunch? Johnny? Have you
- 14:24met the Have you met his lairdship? Yeah? And I nearly lost a
- 14:28leg doing it. Oh then you know, yeah, I know. Oh
- 14:33shut up. Expense account submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar to the Philadelphia Mutual
- 14:46Liability and Casualty Company in connection with my investigation, or rather my involvement in
- 14:52the Laird Douglas Douglas of Heatherscote matter. And I wish I'd had some idea
- 14:56of what I was getting into before I ever left Hartford, but it's too
- 14:58late now. Expense account item three thirty nine to fifty one pair of slacks
- 15:05for Within a few minutes of my arrival in Philadelphia, Harry Branson, a
- 15:09Philly mutual, button holed me and dragged me up to his office to meet
- 15:13two important clients he had. First was missus Peter Malcolm Kelly van Pyten.
- 15:16Oh, wonderful, wonderful man. I am so glad that you've agreed to
- 15:22take home this assignment. Lair Douglas Douglas beans everything to me, and I
- 15:26have the utmost confidence in you. I'm sure Leir Douglas will too. And
- 15:31then came well, Missus Van Pyton made the introduction, Leir Douglas Douglas of
- 15:43Headscote. This is mister Johnny Dollar. Huh oh no, holy jumped down.
- 15:52Oh no, you mustn't do that. Oh my god, Oh,
- 15:54dear good heavens, you know your own Dear Harry, this is mistaken,
- 15:58Sorry John, Sorry, down, Douglas down there dear, that's the boy.
- 16:03That's a nice boy. That is Larry Douglas. Douglas of Hedscope.
- 16:07Yes, isn't deardorable? He's so playful. He was really just playing.
- 16:10You know where, dear, come out very John, This is the clients
- 16:14you call me all the way down from Hartford to see Yes, John,
- 16:17Yes, seven to fifty a week, practically unlimited expensive calls. Oh dear,
- 16:19Just look at your trousers, mister Dollard. I don't need to thanks,
- 16:22I can feel a draft, but you'll need new ones here, and
- 16:26I insist you let me pay for it. Down Douglas, down here,
- 16:30mister dollar. Will one hundred dollars be enough? No? Here, one
- 16:33hundred and fifty. I can see those were very very nice? Well what
- 16:37I mean, John? Yeah? Please? Now I insist you take it.
- 16:40And if it isn't, no, no, no, no thanks.
- 16:41That's funny. But now, Harry, you listening, John, I know
- 16:44what you're going to say, But as I explain to you on the way
- 16:45up, you'll explain funny but not nearly enough. But I tried. I
- 16:48really think you and I had better have a quiet little talk Harry, and
- 16:51the sooner the battle, Oh boys, Please can't you do that another time?
- 16:53Please come down from those chairs so mister Dollar can meet Douglas and we
- 16:59can make all the arrange please, missus Van Pyton. That's precisely what I
- 17:03want to talk about. You really look very funny up there. And see
- 17:07Douglas does want so much to be friends with you. Sure it isn't a
- 17:12piece of my leg he wants. Oh no, of course, not here,
- 17:15mister Dollar. Just give him one of these biscuits. I have them
- 17:19especially baked for him, and he'll be your friend for life. Really here,
- 17:25now, just come down and hand it to him. He'll love you,
- 17:29It's true, John, I know. Yeah. Then what are you
- 17:32doing up on that chair? I forgot? That's all nice Douglas, please,
- 17:37mister Dollar. Well, all I hope is he doesn't forget. That's
- 17:42right. Just handed to then he knows which is biscuit and which is my
- 17:47hand? You here, boy, here, boy, take it easy.
- 17:53You see now your friend isn't that sweet? Sure? Well, I'd better
- 18:00get back to my hotel and change. And Harry are calling you. Oh
- 18:03but we haven't made the definite arrangements yet, and I want you staying out
- 18:07at our place in Germantown, the Maples, it's a lovely little place,
- 18:11mister Donough. Well, much as I hate to say it, I'm not
- 18:12quite sure about taking hos. I know the money, well, don't you
- 18:15worry about it, not at all, not one bit. If you'd rather
- 18:18have a thousand dollars a week, that's what we'll make it. And I
- 18:22do wish missus do more about these poor trousers. I know, why don't
- 18:26you go straight over to Wannamaker's men's store and have them tailor you a whole
- 18:30suit. Wouldn't that be nice? You'd look lovely. You've already given me
- 18:34more than aswer that. Now just forget it. Now you have them make
- 18:37you anything you want and just charge it to me. Oh look, Douglas
- 18:44care is licking your hand. I knew he'd like you. Never underestimate the
- 18:57power of a woman, somebody once said, or maybe they should have said,
- 19:00never underestimate the power of a fast buck or a thousand bucks. Anyhow,
- 19:07missus, Peter Malcolm Kelly van Python had set her heart on my handling
- 19:10this whole affair, and she simply wasn't to be denied. Couple that with
- 19:12a chance to pick up enough loot in a few days to well what would
- 19:17you do? And the darn mutt did take a liking to me, so
- 19:22with lair Douglas Douglas in my lap. Oh he's a Scottie by the way,
- 19:25Scottish terrier, mister dolla, you correcting your sorry? And it's all
- 19:30because of the show at Bala Kinwid on Friday, Delaware b a la cuy
- 19:36Nwy day job. Yes, Bala Kinwidd Laird Douglas Douglas simply must win not
- 19:41only Best of Class but best of Show, and he will if somebody doesn't
- 19:47interfere. Oh you you think somebody might might do something to Douglas. I'm
- 19:52sure of it becaus been tried before. You mean poison him or something like
- 19:56that? Worse all dope poison would let him die a hero, a martyr,
- 20:03but drugs would keep him from winning the show. Oh well, what
- 20:07makes you suspect somebody might try? As I said, it's been tried before
- 20:12last year and again a few days ago. And if Harrison R. Kenworthy
- 20:17thinks he can do it again, he's mistaken. Then you know who did
- 20:19it before. I refuse to divulge any names, but you just mister dollar,
- 20:26I will not tell you. All I ask is that you watch over
- 20:30their Douglas Douglas until he has won the show. Oh and if he does
- 20:34win, as I'm sure he will, I'll insist that you accept a nice
- 20:40bonus. So you can see I'm very very slo And so it went on
- 20:47for another half hour or so, and finally she left after I promised to
- 20:49pick up my bags at the hotel and move out to her join and fashionable
- 20:53German town. I talked a few minutes longer with Harry brandtson. I'm so
- 20:56glad you've agreed to take this on, John, As I told you,
- 20:59Missus van Piiten is the most important individual policyholder we have. And doing this
- 21:03favor, Harry. It's not the mut show at Bella Kinwood, or Larry
- 21:06Douglas, or missus Kelly van Piiten or you. I'm doing this for.
- 21:10It's purely love of the green stuff. That old day must be really loaded,
- 21:14John. She has so much money, well she doesn't know how much
- 21:17she has, industrial empire that sort of thing, all right, all right,
- 21:19But Harry, if word ever gets around on the trade that I came
- 21:22down here to play bodyguard to a mut So help me. I'll have your
- 21:26head. Yes, But now hadn't you better go on out to the Maples?
- 21:29Well, first I want to know about this Harris and R Kenworthy.
- 21:30She mentioned, yeah, that she accused him of doping up her Scottiche.
- 21:34Well, she really doesn't know, and it's really quite complicated. What do
- 21:37you mean ken Worthy owns a beautiful Kerry Blue Terry lady O. Diddy's rolling
- 21:41on me, holy cants and no pun. Why can't they give an honest
- 21:45dog an honest name? Look, well call her Mimi. Go ahead,
- 21:49Ray just in time? Eat Harry Branson Ray Roll. Oh we know each
- 21:52other, Hello, Harry boy. Mister Roland. Sure Harry called me in
- 21:56last year when these two dogs were at each other. Course she doesn't mean
- 22:00literally, John. You see, mister Roland is quite an authority on show.
- 22:03I've held it against him for years, ever since school. Well,
- 22:04there's no need to hold it against him. I don't mean that literally.
- 22:07Oh well, John Borr, So you came down to help yourself to a
- 22:11handful of deer missus Kelly Ryan Pyiton's coin, More power to you. I
- 22:15knew Harry would call you in on the case, felt it in my bones,
- 22:18and brother, you may be in deeper than you think. Uh,
- 22:21what's that supposed to mean? Ray? As Harry told you about the villain
- 22:23of the piece, Harrison R. Kenworthy, I was just starting to when
- 22:26you're so rang. Yeah, well, Johnny, the whole setup is a
- 22:30riot. But just remember one thing. A lot of people have been killed
- 22:33in riots. What's that supposed to me? I'll tell you what he means.
- 22:37Let me tell it, Harry. It would take you all day.
- 22:40Sorry, no offense, all right, go Aheadery, Okay, bellakin wit
- 22:42is the biggest event of the year. And the dog he said, Okay,
- 22:45all right, missus. Kelly van Piden owns Laird Douglas Douglas of Heatherscote,
- 22:49real fine Scotty. Yeah good see see hey those pants are really gone
- 22:53anyhow. Harrison Kenworthy owns Lady O Diddy's rolla R Meme Kerry Blue Meme.
- 23:00I'd get into gestion trying to say that other night. Okay, me me.
- 23:03They're two pretty good dogs, especially Memi International Championship, blood and all
- 23:07that, But Mimi's the better dog. Douglas won't stand a chance. I've
- 23:10tried to tell her this, but we'll go on going, Okay, Harrison
- 23:14Kenworthy loves Kelly van Pit and see oh loves her money him. He's loaded
- 23:18too. No, I think the old coot really loves her, and I
- 23:21think she loves him, right, Harry, Yes, I think I'm inclined,
- 23:23right, But now get this, she won't marry him until her laird
- 23:27Douglas beats his lady old diddy Mimi feign Square at the Ballykinwood Show. How
- 23:33do you like that? Are you kidding? Oh? No, Jiane's an
- 23:36accepted one, right, So what happens for over a y? Wait a
- 23:40minute? If he really wants to marry her, why doesn't he just let
- 23:42her dog beat his and let her be one up on him right from the
- 23:45start. Never, no, boy, he'd never live it down. You
- 23:48don't know these people. This is about the craziest thing I ever heard of.
- 23:52You and me, sure, but the dam it's deadly serious. Are
- 23:53they in love with each other or with their dog? Well, it's not
- 23:56just love where the dogs are concerned, but pride, which is just about
- 24:00all a lot of these old, lonely millionaires have to think about to live
- 24:03for. Yeah, sometimes even under the fifth and sixth generation. Yeah,
- 24:07okay, okay, I'll take your word for it. But now she said
- 24:10something about her dog being doped at the show last year. Oh yes,
- 24:11John, You see, it was just a couple of right, just before
- 24:15the finals. It was an attempt to murder the dog with poison, but
- 24:17emergency care both times pulled Lair Douglas through. She told me it was only
- 24:21some kind of a dope. The sure, sure, we kept the truth
- 24:23from it. You don't realize it, boy, But if that dog were
- 24:26to die, she would fact Oh no, Ray, Oh yes, John,
- 24:30and the insurance company must keep that dog alive in order to obviate having
- 24:33to pay the right. After all, her policies amounts to a life.
- 24:37It may sound absurd to you, Johnny, but it's no joke. As
- 24:41I said, you don't know these people. But look, it still doesn't
- 24:42make any sense. You'll just have to take my word for it. And
- 24:45it's happened right here in Philadelphia, Yes, John, and we held the
- 24:48policy. It was an old lady, right, And so there you have
- 24:51it. Okay, okay, I'll believe you. And so the finger points
- 24:56at Harris and r. Kenney. Well, she might like to think that
- 25:00especially since she doesn't know that poison was used both times, but I don't.
- 25:03What's more, the police feel the same. Oh now if you say
- 25:06police dogs, I'll slug it, John. There are times when the sense
- 25:08of dead right, and I do mean dead no in all seriousness, Johnny,
- 25:14if I were you on, duck out of this assignment. Now,
- 25:15don't say that ray unless John No, go go ahead and say it.
- 25:19Something on It started to make sense around, all right. Listen. The
- 25:22reason I'm sure Harrison R. Kenworthy had nothing to do with the attempted poisonings,
- 25:26the reason the police were called in, the reason I think you ought
- 25:27to get to the on each occasion, missus. Kelly van Python had a
- 25:32bodyguard attending Laird Douglas in addition to the dogs, governors, medicos and so
- 25:36on. Get to the point each time in order for the poisoner to get
- 25:38to that ray. Please, each time the bodyguard was murdered. Still want
- 25:45this case, Johnny, Now here's our star to tell you about tomorrow's intriguing
- 26:03episode of this week's story. Tomorrow. Well, a joke's no longer a
- 26:07joke, especially when a killer trains his sights on me. Join us won't
- 26:11you Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Yours Truly Johnny Dollar is starring Bob Bailey,
- 26:27is transcribed in Hollywood. It is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone, who
- 26:32also wrote Tonight's story. Be sure to join us tomorrow night, same time
- 26:36in station for the next exciting episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Roy Rowan
- 26:40speaking welcome back, Well, Harry left out a key fact, and I
- 28:15guess that's a signal that we're not just going to have comedy for the whole
- 28:21week long cereal, and I like this one. This is just such a
- 28:23nice change of pace. I don't know if I like this every week,
- 28:27but this is just you know, we've had some heavier episodes and this one
- 28:32may take a heavier turn yet, but I like the humorous tone of these
- 28:37first couple episodes and it makes two. I think the suspenseful parts we're going
- 28:42to get certainly pack a bit more of a punch. And she was definitely
- 28:49very eager to get Johnny on board, even offering him to go to Watermakers
- 28:56to get a suit. And that is truly amazing because they sell clippercraft the
- 29:00finest yet very thrifty value in men's clothing, at least that's what they said
- 29:07in their advertisement sponsoring one of the last series of the New Adventures of Sherlock
- 29:15Holmes. And also in this episode we get another reoccurring insurance man and Harry
- 29:22bartels Us did a good job in this episode, and Bailey did pretty well
- 29:27as basically the straight man in the sketch. Of course, he has some
- 29:33experience with that. Bailey did have a brief a film career, and his
- 29:40most prominent role was in Jitterbugs, Laurel and Hearty Picture, where he played
- 29:45with him as the guy who got the girl. Radio offered him a lot
- 29:49more opportunity to do some more dramatic work, and I think that's where most
- 29:56of his efforts went. But nice to see some more the comedic side of
- 30:00all Bailey. All right, and now to listener comments and feedback. Pastor
- 30:04Lisa Rights in Hi Adam. I wanted to respond to a listener comment the
- 30:08other day regarding interest in the suspense radio series. I subscribe to a few
- 30:14radio classic podcasts on my iPhone and one of them is called Old Time Radio
- 30:18Suspense, and it is really good quality. However, it's not a daily
- 30:22podcast, more like a weekly. It's very good quality and I enjoy it.
- 30:25I'm not sure if it is an iTunes It very well may be,
- 30:29but hopefully the listener will be able to access it. Keep up the great
- 30:32work. I love your podcast and look forward to tuning in every day.
- 30:37Thanks so much for the comment, and that may be an option. I've
- 30:45seen one titled Old Time Radio Suspense, not certain if it's the same one
- 30:52for most. For most of these podcasts, you can find at least an
- 30:57unhosted podcast that will do most of the prominent series in some way or another.
- 31:03For complete series or the more obscure ones, you probably want to go
- 31:07to archive dot orger some of the other sides and download directly. But thanks
- 31:14so much for the tip, and you can follow the show on Facebook,
- 31:18Facebook dot com. Slash Radio Detectors also do encourage you to follow us on
- 31:22Twitter at Radio Detectors. And thanks to Gary who retweeted one of our episodes
- 31:30to his followers on Twitter. Really do appreciate that because that definitely helps promote
- 31:37the show. All right, well, the story of Lair Douglas. Douglas
