- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, the 1110 KFAB Certified Transmission Sports Brief. It's the
- 0:04Speaker 1: Husker Buzz edition as we have a game Sunday morning
- 0:09Speaker 1: or whenever it's going to get over. Sean Callahan joins
- 0:12Speaker 1: us here on News Radio 1110 KFAB. Good morning, Sean.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Hey, good morning, Scott. Here we go. Let's start the
- 0:21Speaker 2: long weekend here with the late-night kickoff in Eugene, Oregon.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Nebraska will take off later today, probably later. 4.30, I believe,
- 0:29Speaker 2: is when they're going to take off from Lincoln. About
- 0:32Speaker 2: two hours later than they normally would, and no land.
- 0:35Speaker 2: And Eugene, this evening early, go to the stadium and
- 0:38Speaker 2: then have all day to kind of wait around. And
- 0:42Speaker 2: the big thing, we know Dante Moore's not going to play.
- 0:46Speaker 2: So you hope from now until kickoff, maybe you get
- 0:48Speaker 2: an idea of what Oregon's going to do at quarterback.
- 0:51Speaker 2: But plenty of time to wait as 8 o'clock local kickoff,
- 0:55Speaker 2: 10 o'clock central. It's about as late as you're going
- 0:58Speaker 2: to see for a college football game.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know that for an old guy like me,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I'm already thinking, am I going to try and stay
- 1:05Speaker 1: up for this game? Am I going to watch half
- 1:07Speaker 1: of it and catch the next the next morning? You know,
- 1:10Speaker 1: these are college athletes and not just athletes. They're college kids.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Staying up late is not a problem for them.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I do.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Do we really think that there's an issue with like, hey,
- 1:19Speaker 1: when are you guys going to get a nap? Are
- 1:21Speaker 1: you going to be falling asleep in the third quarter?
- 1:23Speaker 1: We're not really talking about that, are we?
- 1:27Speaker 2: Well, the beauty of it is, Scott, you've got football
- 1:29Speaker 2: on all day. So when you wake up in Eugene, Oregon,
- 1:33Speaker 2: Ohio State, and Indiana will play at 9 a.m. out there.
- 1:37Speaker 2: And so at the hotel, you've got plenty of... You're interested, obviously,
- 1:42Speaker 2: if you're in that hotel watching all that football. I
- 1:45Speaker 2: will tell you this, a Friday game is almost more challenging.
- 1:48Speaker 2: When you go on the road on a Friday or
- 1:49Speaker 2: a Thursday, all that's on TV is soap operas. We
- 1:53Speaker 2: get to watch game shows. We get to watch all day...
- 1:56Speaker 2: There's no games being played at that time of day
- 2:00Speaker 2: on a Friday or Thursday. It's a lot better when
- 2:02Speaker 2: you're on a night game on the road when there's
- 2:05Speaker 2: plenty of football to watch.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Don't you dare make fun of Lucy Chapman's soap operas.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Before we get back to the keys to the game
- 2:13Speaker 1: for Oregon tomorrow night, let's talk a little bit about
- 2:16Speaker 1: the details we got from the stadium renovation and And
- 2:21Speaker 1: the seating, because there was a lot of talk, obviously,
- 2:24Speaker 1: before this that no one's going to be able to
- 2:26Speaker 1: sit down near the same place they were before, and
- 2:30Speaker 1: if they do, it's going to cost a million dollars. Well,
- 2:33Speaker 1: Nebraska comes out and says, yeah, all these seats are
- 2:36Speaker 1: a lot less expensive than they were. What's your read
- 2:39Speaker 1: on the new seating chart to come at Memorial Stadium?
- 2:43Speaker 2: Well, there's a lot of layers to this, but number one,
- 2:45Speaker 2: they did eliminate the legacy seating, which is referred to
- 2:48Speaker 2: as grandfathering. So all the Tickets will have the same
- 2:52Speaker 2: donation for every ticket holder. It's no longer, hey, we
- 2:54Speaker 2: have these tickets since 1964. We pay this price for
- 2:58Speaker 2: them with no donations or a minimal donation. Now your
- 3:02Speaker 2: neighbor pays the same as you do. So that, I think,
- 3:06Speaker 2: levels things out. The hard thing to read in all
- 3:12Speaker 2: this is what will your selection order be, and that's
- 3:16Speaker 2: going to be based on your annual giving number to Nebraska,
- 3:19Speaker 2: not your lifetime giving number. Your up-to-date annual number kind
- 3:24Speaker 2: of allows you to select. The prices have gone down. Yes,
- 3:31Speaker 2: but I think a lot of folks still don't know, like, okay, well,
- 3:34Speaker 2: how much do I have to give on my annual number,
- 3:37Speaker 2: which allows me to pick where I pick? That's the
- 3:40Speaker 2: gray area in the volleyball process. We kind of went
- 3:42Speaker 2: through that, but on a much smaller scale as far
- 3:45Speaker 2: as the number of available tickets. This will be much bigger.
- 3:48Speaker 2: There will be roughly 40,000 season tickets to choose from,
- 3:53Speaker 2: and they're going from that 60,000 this last year. So
- 3:56Speaker 2: there's 20,000 less season tickets for people as we go
- 4:01Speaker 2: through this. And then a year from now, after this
- 4:03Speaker 2: is over, we'll do it again when the whole stadium
- 4:06Speaker 2: is rebuilt. I use the analogy, this is kind of
- 4:08Speaker 2: like the temporary apartment building. You have to move into
- 4:12Speaker 2: while the house is being built. You're basically taking these
- 4:15Speaker 2: seats for one year, and you can decide how nice
- 4:17Speaker 2: you want to go, and then the following year you're
- 4:19Speaker 2: going to do it again.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Yeah, obviously we hope that there's demand for these tickets
- 4:24Speaker 1: and people are not just saying, hey, you know what,
- 4:26Speaker 1: I've got other things to do on Saturdays in the fall.
- 4:30Speaker 1: All right, so Saturday night into Sunday morning. This game's
- 4:34Speaker 1: not going to get over until 1.30, 2 o'clock in
- 4:36Speaker 1: the morning. What are the keys, not just to staying
- 4:41Speaker 1: up for the remainder of the game, what are the
- 4:43Speaker 1: keys to the game for Nebraska versus Oregon, Sean?
- 4:46Speaker 2: Keys for me, set the tone with the defense. Again,
- 4:49Speaker 2: we saw it last week. You have to find that
- 4:51Speaker 2: offensive balance. Oregon has a really good defense just on
- 4:54Speaker 2: third down. Particularly, they're excellent. Can you get the balance
- 4:58Speaker 2: and get Anthony Calandria what he needs? Get Oregon into
- 5:02Speaker 2: passing downs. That's a real strength for Rob Warich when
- 5:06Speaker 2: he gets his third down packages on the field. The
- 5:09Speaker 2: red zone execution for Nebraska, last week they had some,
- 5:13Speaker 2: as Dana Holgerson referred to, just bad play calls, he thought,
- 5:16Speaker 2: that he made in the red zone. They've got to
- 5:18Speaker 2: be smarter. Oregon's got arguably a better defense than Indiana
- 5:22Speaker 2: in terms of talent. The field goals and points like
- 5:25Speaker 2: that are going to be big, so you can't miss
- 5:28Speaker 2: that 40-yarder last week. You can't have that this week.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Don't make this game like the Penn State game last year. Oregon,
- 5:33Speaker 2: to me, is this year's Penn State, a national championship
- 5:36Speaker 2: contender that has fallen off a cliff, but they still
- 5:39Speaker 2: have talent. Don't let that talent decide to show up
- 5:43Speaker 2: against you like Penn State did last year.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Who's going to be their quarterback? Do we know yet?
- 5:50Speaker 2: No, it's Dylan Ryle or the other kid that's on
- 5:54Speaker 2: the walk on Thomas. I could see them playing both
- 5:58Speaker 2: these guys against Nebraska, if I'm being honest. I think
- 6:01Speaker 2: it's realistic that both quarterbacks could end up playing in
- 6:03Speaker 2: this game. I mean, Dante Moore, who's a projected first-rounder,
- 6:07Speaker 2: a preseason Heisman favorite, is out. A break for Nebraska.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Also one of Oregon's top receivers is out for this game, too,
- 6:14Speaker 2: on the injury report. So they're down some firepower. There's
- 6:18Speaker 2: no doubt the defense for Oregon, if they beat Nebraska,
- 6:21Speaker 2: it's going to be a defense that does it. So
- 6:23Speaker 2: you've got to be really smart against this talented defense.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Sean Callahan back with game predictions after 5 o'clock here
