- 0:25Speaker 1: Put your questions in either Chat producer Matt Mitchell is
- 0:29Speaker 1: standing by to give them to me and to my
- 0:34Speaker 1: co host, my bff, my compadre, and my companion professional
- 0:39Speaker 1: better Simon hunter.
- 0:43Speaker 2: HEADO.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So I'm in, Hello Chad.
- 0:47Speaker 3: What a crazy, crazy start to the month of June.
- 0:49Speaker 1: We've had tell me why?
- 0:52Speaker 4: Uh, we had a golf merger and on the same
- 0:56Speaker 4: day as we have a gambling scandal, the same day
- 0:59Speaker 4: we have an upset in the NBA.
- 1:01Speaker 3: It's all happening at the same exact time.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Chat Sports takes no breaks. Uh. You're, of course referring
- 1:07Speaker 1: to the PGA Tour and Live Golf and the European Tour,
- 1:12Speaker 1: essentially merging freaking insane. I don't even understand how it's
- 1:20Speaker 1: all gonna work. At one point, we're gonna get Jason
- 1:22Speaker 1: sobell on here. We're going to talk about the ramifications.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Does this now mean Rory McElroy is going to be
- 1:28Speaker 1: nice to Bryce and d Champeau. Does Roy McElroy now
- 1:31Speaker 1: play the trunk courses that are on the live tour?
- 1:36Speaker 1: Does anybody even care about the Lift Tour enough to
- 1:38Speaker 1: watch it on TV now that it will be part
- 1:40Speaker 1: of the PGA Tour. I don't know what any of
- 1:42Speaker 1: this means. Does Phil Nicholson have to give back two
- 1:44Speaker 1: hundred and fifty million dollars? I don't know. We're gonna
- 1:47Speaker 1: We're gonna untangle it all. You did mention two very
- 1:52Speaker 1: important things. Number One, we've got the NBA files going on.
- 1:57Speaker 1: They are tied one to one. We love the NBA.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We've had great NBA coverage that will continue later on
- 2:03Speaker 1: the show. Dragonfly Jones and Mike Garda Bassio from the
- 2:09Speaker 1: Jenkins and Jones podcast crew, friends of ours from the
- 2:14Speaker 1: Volume podcast network. They're going to come on, We're going
- 2:16Speaker 1: to talk NBA. Before we get to that, we're gonna
- 2:22Speaker 1: have to talk about this cult's betting scandal that came
- 2:28Speaker 1: up yesterday and the guy who broke it from Sports
- 2:33Speaker 1: Handle part of the Better Collective universe. We're all part
- 2:37Speaker 1: of the same family here in Better Collective. Matt Riboltowski,
- 2:40Speaker 1: who nailed the story, had been working his sources for
- 2:43Speaker 1: a few months. He's going to come on and explain
- 2:45Speaker 1: to us what it means. But first, the Favorites is

- 4:21Speaker 1: Price guaranteed. Simon, you said it, I mentioned it. Let's
- 4:25Speaker 1: bring in Matt Ribaltowski, Senior reporter of Sports handled Matt
- 4:31Speaker 1: yesterday you broke a very big story, got picked up
- 4:34Speaker 1: all over the country. NBC picked it up, ESPN picked
- 4:38Speaker 1: it up. It was on local radio everywhere. It's becoming
- 4:41Speaker 1: a little bit of a recurring theme in this off season,
- 4:46Speaker 1: is NFL players getting busted for betting on sports. This
- 4:53Speaker 1: one took on a little bit of a different angle.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Explain what you learned and what you broke.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Yeah, you nailed it, Chad, Where you mentioned that there's
- 5:06Speaker 5: this convergence now of all these batting scandals within the industry,
- 5:13Speaker 5: and it just hasn't happened with the NFL. There's been
- 5:18Speaker 5: a few universities that have been ensnared. There was a
- 5:22Speaker 5: MLS match fixing scandal involving in a ledged yellow card
- 5:28Speaker 5: incident earlier in the in the Spring. The reason I
- 5:32Speaker 5: mentioned them is because the source we use is it's
- 5:36Speaker 5: very trusted. We've used them in the past. We've had
- 5:40Speaker 5: him as a source for a few years now and
- 5:43Speaker 5: he had he had firsthand knowledge of what occurred here
- 5:48Speaker 5: with the Cults incident. And this is the fourth one
- 5:53Speaker 5: now that's involved NFL players since the past ruling.
- 6:00Speaker 6: And.
- 6:02Speaker 5: It's it definitely doesn't involve the most prominent player, right
- 6:07Speaker 5: Calvin Ridley is by far the most prominent player that's
- 6:13Speaker 5: been nailed for gambling. And it might not be the
- 6:17Speaker 5: most egregious either. If you look back at the first
- 6:20Speaker 5: one in twenty nineteen that involved Josh Saw there were
- 6:26Speaker 5: uncorroborated reports that he wazered against the Cardinals on a
- 6:30Speaker 5: second half bet in a Cardinals Bucks game. So even
- 6:35Speaker 5: if it's proven that Isaiah Rogers bet on the Colts,
- 6:40Speaker 5: I wouldn't say it's the most egregious one, but I
- 6:43Speaker 5: would say in terms of sheer volume, our source informed
- 6:49Speaker 5: us that the player placed hundreds of bets, if not more,
- 6:56Speaker 5: and ESPN corroborated that some where. According to ESPN's reporting,
- 7:03Speaker 5: he placed at least one hundred wagers. I'd say in
- 7:07Speaker 5: terms of the sheer volume, this is the most rampant
- 7:10Speaker 5: violation so far.
- 7:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Yeah, ESPN broke yesterday after we had reported that the
- 7:16Speaker 1: investigation was happening, that it was called player Isaiah Rogers Simon,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and that he had potentially we had broken that some
- 7:25Speaker 1: of the hundreds of bets he made included bets on
- 7:28Speaker 1: his own team. Simon, you're professional better. You've been a
- 7:34Speaker 1: professional better for a long time. There are two sides
- 7:39Speaker 1: to two ways to look at what's happening right now.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Everyone says, oh my god, sports betting is legal, and
- 7:46Speaker 1: all of a sudden there is a rush of illicit
- 7:52Speaker 1: activity on the parts of players and rules violations with
- 7:56Speaker 1: regard to betting. What was me that's terrible? Or sunlight
- 8:04Speaker 1: is the best disinfectant And these things were probably happening before.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Only now because it is so regulated, we are learning
- 8:12Speaker 1: about this and it actually becomes more of a deterrent
- 8:16Speaker 1: as a professional better. What is your purview on the
- 8:22Speaker 1: attention being paid to rules violations from players.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I mean, there's a lot of ways to go with this.
- 8:31Speaker 4: I would say the biggest thing is it's just about
- 8:34Speaker 4: being dumb.
- 8:35Speaker 3: If you're dumb, you will get caught. If you're not.
- 8:38Speaker 3: If you're smart, it's really easy never to get caught.
- 8:41Speaker 3: I mean I have.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I mean, it'd be a shocking amount to you chet
- 8:46Speaker 4: how many guys that I run for right, take bets
- 8:49Speaker 4: for that are professional athletes. People have been talking AlSi
- 8:52Speaker 4: I'm like, oh my god, how are guys better on
- 8:54Speaker 4: their own football teams but against football teams? How are
- 8:57Speaker 4: NHL players betting on different sports across the map? Like
- 9:01Speaker 4: you think it's just a one isolated thing. It's People
- 9:04Speaker 4: would be shocked to know how many professional athletes do bet.
- 9:07Speaker 4: But they're not idiots, right. Either they're betting through friends
- 9:11Speaker 4: or families or whoever's phones. I'm not using their own
- 9:13Speaker 4: devices because that's how you get caught. Basically, they're catching
- 9:16Speaker 4: these guys because they're getting pinged in their own buildings
- 9:19Speaker 4: or wherever. Right, these these sportsbooks work with these teams
- 9:23Speaker 4: if they ping a guy, right, if someone makes a
- 9:25Speaker 4: bet in the cold stadium or the cult practice facility,
- 9:28Speaker 4: they'll just send that info to the NFL team. Now,
- 9:31Speaker 4: who knows how he did it, and maybe he was
- 9:33Speaker 4: using his own phone, maybe he was using his girlfriend's phone,
- 9:35Speaker 4: who knows, but he got caught. So I would say
- 9:39Speaker 4: this isn't a one stop thing. There's gonna be a
- 9:41Speaker 4: lot more stories coming out of this over the next
- 9:44Speaker 4: couple of years. We haven't had a major scandal yet,
- 9:46Speaker 4: but Italy. One of the biggest scandals ever is this
- 9:49Speaker 4: whole thing with Italy and the Juventos. I believe it
- 9:52Speaker 4: was was paying off referees. That was a big deal.
- 9:55Speaker 4: That was a huge deal in Europe. Now we haven't
- 9:57Speaker 4: had that. We really haven't anything else like that. To me,
- 9:59Speaker 4: that that's the big stuff where you know, if there's
- 10:02Speaker 4: if there's big breaking stuff, it's going to be a
- 10:06Speaker 4: big name player, right Chad. So, say a starting quarterback
- 10:10Speaker 4: NFL gets caught betting against his team or betting on
- 10:12Speaker 4: a team, to me, that would be earth shattering. If
- 10:15Speaker 4: it's a backup running back, yeah it's a big deal,
- 10:18Speaker 4: but it's you know, me and you aren't losing our
- 10:20Speaker 4: heads over it. So to me, that's the fear as
- 10:23Speaker 4: someone that's in this industry, now, it's like, I just
- 10:26Speaker 4: want it to be pure. I like betting on sports
- 10:28Speaker 4: and not worrying about the referees, not worrying about what
- 10:30Speaker 4: the players are doing. That's a nice thing to know.
- 10:33Speaker 4: If that changes that, yeah, that would be massive in
- 10:36Speaker 4: our industry. So to me being behind the curtains, it's like,
- 10:40Speaker 4: I know a ton of athletes I bet on sports.
- 10:43Speaker 4: They bet on their own teams, they bet on themselves,
- 10:45Speaker 4: their own player props, all of that. But I don't
- 10:49Speaker 4: think they're ever gonna get caught. I think a lot
- 10:50Speaker 4: of these guys are really smart. They're really well educated,
- 10:53Speaker 4: especially where a lot of these teams have a guy coming.
- 10:55Speaker 4: They'll tell me the exact rules on the betting. Right,
- 10:58Speaker 4: They'll tell them exactly what to do and what not
- 11:01Speaker 4: to do. Right, if you play football, you can bet
- 11:03Speaker 4: on another sports. You just can't bet on the NFL.
- 11:05Speaker 4: There's different rules like that. So to me, I think
- 11:09Speaker 4: this is just the tip of the iceberg. Chad, like,
- 11:11Speaker 4: we're just gonna keep every year we'll see one of
- 11:13Speaker 4: these scandals come out just because people are dumb. Like
- 11:17Speaker 4: it's just you're really dumb if you're gonna use your
- 11:19Speaker 4: own cell phone go on these sports books, give your
- 11:22Speaker 4: own name and your own so security number. It's just like,
- 11:25Speaker 4: come on, it really is mind blowing. So when this
- 11:27Speaker 4: story broke, I was waiting to hear what players name.
- 11:30Speaker 4: The player's name was. When the name came out, I
- 11:32Speaker 4: was like, all right, it's pretty crazy, but nothing that's
- 11:36Speaker 4: going to shut down the NFL league, right, It's just
- 11:38Speaker 4: going to be business as usual.
- 11:40Speaker 3: This guy probably kicked out of the league. No one's
- 11:42Speaker 3: gonna pick him up. That's just the way it is.
- 11:43Speaker 4: He's not like Calvin Ridley, which is a top twenty,
- 11:47Speaker 4: top twenty five bide receiver, Like that guy's gonna get
- 11:49Speaker 4: another job. I don't know if he's gonna get another
- 11:51Speaker 4: job after this one.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Chad.
- 11:53Speaker 1: By the way, I don't know why, but in the
- 11:56Speaker 1: three months you've been in Hawaii, your or Philadelphia accent
- 12:02Speaker 1: has gotten stronger. I don't know how that's happened.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Because I pulled an all nighter.
- 12:09Speaker 4: I've just been up all night cha, I have not
- 12:11Speaker 4: gone to sleep, and it is seven thirty in the
- 12:12Speaker 4: morning in Hawaii.
- 12:13Speaker 3: So I literally pulled an all nighter so I would
- 12:15Speaker 3: have missed this show.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I feel like I'm watching I'm listening to that Kate
- 12:18Speaker 1: Winslet show like Murder Dirder. All right, So Matt, there
- 12:25Speaker 1: are and Isaiah Rogers has since come out with a
- 12:27Speaker 1: statement apologizing owning the mistakes. Blah blah blah blah blah
- 12:30Speaker 1: blah with you as something that was really interesting in
- 12:36Speaker 1: your story, this concept of prohibited lists, and I want
- 12:41Speaker 1: you to address this before we get to the Jenkins
- 12:44Speaker 1: and Jones guys and talk NBA. Explain what prohibited lists
- 12:49Speaker 1: are and what leagues can do with them.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a really interesting point. And I have to
- 12:59Speaker 5: give out to give a shout out to my colleague
- 13:02Speaker 5: Jill Dorson because in May she had a terrific feature
- 13:07Speaker 5: on this and she was she was able to ascertain
- 13:12Speaker 5: that in Iowa because she was doing some reporting on
- 13:16Speaker 5: the colleges there that the the only pro league that
- 13:23Speaker 5: provides those prohibited player lists is the NBA. None of
- 13:29Speaker 5: the others do, and the prohibited better list that that
- 13:36Speaker 5: could be another tool for investigators here where where If
- 13:42Speaker 5: a if a sportsbook or a regulator has this massive
- 13:47Speaker 5: list of you know, twelve hundred NFL players active NFL
- 13:52Speaker 5: players and all their accompanying information is in front of them.
- 13:58Speaker 5: You know, social security number addresses, phone numbers that they like.
- 14:04Speaker 5: There they would be able to marry that. That list
- 14:08Speaker 5: with other forms of the investigation, you know, the location
- 14:14Speaker 5: of the of the better. Did he make the bet
- 14:17Speaker 5: inside a practice facility, did he make it on a
- 14:20Speaker 5: team plane? Did he make it in the hotel while
- 14:23Speaker 5: while the colts were in Denver the team boss or
- 14:26Speaker 5: something like that. But uh, on the other hand, they're
- 14:31Speaker 5: they're still loopholes, right, Simon did an awesome job before
- 14:37Speaker 5: are articulating all all the loopholes that are out there.
- 14:41Speaker 5: All all it takes is for a player's girlfriend to
- 14:46Speaker 5: to place the bet. That's an easy way to trace it.
- 14:49Speaker 5: According to our source, this account was opened up by
- 14:54Speaker 5: someone who was an associate of the player. But if
- 14:57Speaker 5: there's six degrees of separation there, if it's a player's
- 15:01Speaker 5: friends gardner's cousin, then it's harder to trace. If the
- 15:07Speaker 5: investigators don't have the PII of the player, it's going
- 15:12Speaker 5: to be really hard to detect if someone like this
- 15:15Speaker 5: is wazering.
- 15:17Speaker 1: All right, Matt listen, great work on the story, great
- 15:20Speaker 1: work on breaking it. I agree with Simon, there's going
- 15:23Speaker 1: to be more of them, so I would suggest go
- 15:26Speaker 1: fucking find him and break more of them. Matt Ribletowski
- 15:30Speaker 1: sports handle part of the better Collective Universe. We're super
- 15:33Speaker 1: proud of you. Excellent, excellent work, Simon. We're transitioning to
- 15:39Speaker 1: our friends from the Jenkins and Jones crew. Of course,
- 15:45Speaker 1: you know we're going to do it without the Jenkins
- 15:49Speaker 1: portion of the Jenkins and Jones crew because Jenkins John
- 15:54Speaker 1: is on vacation, so we're getting Tyler, We're getting Mike
- 15:57Speaker 1: Gardabasio as I was coming up the stairs from enjoying
- 16:01Speaker 1: my very healthy lunch and my sparkling water with an
- 16:05Speaker 1: orange slice. The last time we had these guys on
- 16:08Speaker 1: was a couple of years ago when we were doing
- 16:09Speaker 1: off season trivia and they were fucking hilarious and I
- 16:14Speaker 1: was trying to remember, like there was one thing that
- 16:16Speaker 1: made me laugh so hard. And then in our rundown
- 16:20Speaker 1: here Matt Mitchell, because he's an incredible producer, reminded us
- 16:25Speaker 1: of what we loved so much. And in honor of
- 16:29Speaker 1: Father's Day, which is coming up soon, here is a
- 16:32Speaker 1: special clip from two years ago Mike Garda Bassio speaking
- 16:37Speaker 1: about his dad. The last time this crew joined the show,
- 16:43Speaker 1: if you were elected at the Hall of Fame, who
- 16:45Speaker 1: was one person you would definitely not think in your
- 16:48Speaker 1: induction speech, John, I will.
- 16:51Speaker 6: Say missus Well's old, big hit ass. She was my
- 16:53Speaker 6: fifth grade teacher, that is for apra fucker.
- 16:56Speaker 3: She gave me like a d on a four page paper.
- 16:59Speaker 7: I wrote it like the mating Rituals of Salmon, and
- 17:02Speaker 7: she said I didn't write it.
- 17:03Speaker 6: She just didn't believe it.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Like we had ms doffs back then, you know what
- 17:06Speaker 3: I mean, How the fuck did I not write that?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Kids turned in like one paragraph reports and got aids.
- 17:13Speaker 7: I don't have a particular person, but I would just
- 17:15Speaker 7: like to like not thank the Utah Jazz for anything
- 17:18Speaker 7: they've ever done in my life as a basketball fan.
- 17:20Speaker 7: And their fucking fans are irritating and horrible, So I
- 17:23Speaker 7: would say, like, you know, the Utah Jazz, they're just
- 17:25Speaker 7: unbearable to me.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Mike, You're next my dad.
- 17:30Speaker 8: Wow, no one here is gonna name someone who made
- 17:33Speaker 8: their life harder than my dad.
- 17:35Speaker 4: Mad.
- 17:38Speaker 7: That's supposed to be like not funny, but it's not,
- 17:43Speaker 7: And I feel bad.
- 17:46Speaker 6: We're laughing this hard as that is.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Mike, Listen, you really gave it to your dad the
- 17:53Speaker 1: last time we were on the show.
- 17:55Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I stand by that.
- 18:00Speaker 8: Fair enough, he's done so nothing has changed in the
- 18:03Speaker 8: last two years.
- 18:03Speaker 1: So I guess in some ways I'm glad you haven't
- 18:09Speaker 1: reconciled because it just leads to more discomfort when we're
- 18:14Speaker 1: talking about it. But hopefully one day. All right, you guys,
- 18:18Speaker 1: You guys are opinionated guys on everything. So I want
- 18:25Speaker 1: to get from you, Tyler. Do you have thoughts on
- 18:29Speaker 1: the betting scandals that are proliferating in professional sports?
- 18:34Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 18:36Speaker 7: You know, we're in uncharted territory with all this gambling shit,
- 18:38Speaker 7: and of course you know that the leagues are going
- 18:41Speaker 7: to be real heavy handed with everything because they have
- 18:43Speaker 7: to protect the integrity of the game. They have to
- 18:45Speaker 7: let that their viewers know that there will not be
- 18:47Speaker 7: any you know, meddling between you know, the strength pullers
- 18:52Speaker 7: that control you.
- 18:53Speaker 6: Know, the Vegas money or whatever in these players. But
- 18:56Speaker 6: I'm just I just don't want to say how the
- 18:57Speaker 6: players are getting caught here.
- 18:59Speaker 7: Like I know, like I know that there are more
- 19:01Speaker 7: than these players who are called who are gambling, But
- 19:04Speaker 7: I'm just I just cannot believe that there are professional
- 19:07Speaker 7: athletes signing up for gambling sites, putting in their bull
- 19:12Speaker 7: legal names and expecting nothing is going to happen to them, Like,
- 19:16Speaker 7: you know, get your girlfriend or your wife or something
- 19:18Speaker 7: to set up in a count for you and her
- 19:20Speaker 7: name or something and do your actually there. But but
- 19:22Speaker 7: I don't get it, man, I just need not get
- 19:23Speaker 7: how players are getting caught here.
- 19:25Speaker 6: That's my biggest takeaway.
- 19:27Speaker 10: Mike, what's your take you know, just as a little context,
- 19:32Speaker 10: I'm not a gambling guy, but grew up in the
- 19:35Speaker 10: sports world in Long Beach, and so I have friends
- 19:38Speaker 10: from teenagers in high school who are athletes who love
- 19:41Speaker 10: doing parlays on their apps that they use a VPN
- 19:44Speaker 10: to get around the age restrictions, right up to the guys.
- 19:48Speaker 8: In the Century Club that I'm in here in Long
- 19:50Speaker 8: Beach are sixty seventy years old who are going to
- 19:52Speaker 8: the bookie at Legends, the original sports bar in Long
- 19:55Speaker 8: Beach back in the seventies and sixties. Right, I think
- 19:58Speaker 8: that there's an upside in a downside obviously to gambling
- 20:01Speaker 8: becoming more of a mainstream thing. But to me, it's
- 20:05Speaker 8: fun and I think that it is kind of challenging
- 20:08Speaker 8: to say to these athletes. You know, hey, we're building
- 20:11Speaker 8: up this gambling infrastructure around everything. Congress is still allowed
- 20:16Speaker 8: to trade stocks based on the things that they know
- 20:19Speaker 8: are happening.
- 20:19Speaker 9: By the way, to bet in the you know, the
- 20:22Speaker 9: real world marketplace.
- 20:23Speaker 8: But you can't put a parlay on you know, games
- 20:26Speaker 8: that are happening on a Monday night when you're sitting
- 20:28Speaker 8: at home with your friends, or we're going to ring
- 20:30Speaker 8: you up and knock you out. And I completely completely
- 20:33Speaker 8: agree with Simon and Tyler, like it's not the hardest
- 20:37Speaker 8: thing in the world to not get caught doing this.
- 20:40Speaker 8: But I also think it's like at some point, you know,
- 20:43Speaker 8: the cover is off the furniture here, the NFL is not.
- 20:47Speaker 8: They're not pretending that there's any other reason why they
- 20:50Speaker 8: have to get injury reports in right. It's like it's
- 20:53Speaker 8: now acknowledged that this is part of the infrastructure of sports.
- 20:56Speaker 8: And so I do think it would behoove them, just
- 20:59Speaker 8: from a endorsement and making it more mainstream perspective, behoove
- 21:03Speaker 8: them to come up with all the money that's being
- 21:07Speaker 8: generated out of this and ombudsman or something for each
- 21:09Speaker 8: team that is like, hey, you're going to put your
- 21:11Speaker 8: bets in through us so that we know you're not
- 21:13Speaker 8: betting on your team or whatever. But find a way
- 21:17Speaker 8: to remove this because otherwise it will be once a
- 21:20Speaker 8: month until eternity, someone you know gets stripped up and
- 21:25Speaker 8: rung up for doing this stuff. That's that's my take.
- 21:27Speaker 8: I think they need to find a way to bring
- 21:30Speaker 8: this into the light. Like you said, you know, sunlight's
- 21:32Speaker 8: the best disinfectant.
- 21:34Speaker 3: And the more you're.
- 21:36Speaker 8: Acknowledging, which everyone in the leagues knows what Simon said,
- 21:40Speaker 8: that all these guys are doing it, then at some
- 21:43Speaker 8: point you need to be smart and not have it
- 21:45Speaker 8: be you know, under the table where you're.
- 21:47Speaker 9: Going to have everything blowing up every now and then
- 21:49Speaker 9: like this. That's my take on it.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I think.
- 21:51Speaker 7: I think another point I was going to make is
- 21:54Speaker 7: that the reason gambling is a multi billion dollar industry
- 21:56Speaker 7: because every single gambler thinks they're smarter than the line sets.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:00Speaker 7: So I can imagine how professional athletes who who are
- 22:05Speaker 7: seeing lines set on their league.
- 22:06Speaker 6: I can imagine how you know that Hubris just takes
- 22:09Speaker 6: them over, Like I can.
- 22:10Speaker 7: Imagine NFL players seeing the Panthers only plus seven versus
- 22:13Speaker 7: Kansas City. Are you kidding me, Like, like leen me
- 22:15Speaker 7: put on that. Understand that right, But like I said,
- 22:20Speaker 7: these guys just have.
- 22:20Speaker 6: To move smarter here.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Man, I love your idea about an ombudsman who is
- 22:28Speaker 1: sort of the funnel. Right, So let's say that that's
- 22:30Speaker 1: actually brilliant. You get a group of people who are
- 22:35Speaker 1: the filters for these guys making their bets. They're basically
- 22:38Speaker 1: proxies runners whatever you put them in each state, align
- 22:42Speaker 1: them with each team. That's a great idea.
- 22:44Speaker 11: The money exists to do that, right, exactly, exactly, Hi,

- 24:52Speaker 1: it as well as anybody sign good? Do you want
- 24:54Speaker 1: to kick us off here? Yeah?
- 24:57Speaker 3: Here we are boys, two games into the finals. What
- 24:59Speaker 3: do you guys takeaway so far? Are we believe in
- 25:01Speaker 3: the Miami hype?
- 25:02Speaker 4: Or was that just a bad night for Denver and
- 25:05Speaker 4: somehow Miami keeps shooting fifty percent from three?
- 25:08Speaker 3: Like? What are your guys takeaways? Is are two games there?
- 25:10Speaker 8: We'll start with you, Mike, Well, yeah, Like so, I'm
- 25:15Speaker 8: a little bit of a numbers person. I have a
- 25:17Speaker 8: toe dipped into the analytics pool, right, and the question
- 25:19Speaker 8: has always been, if we play enough sports statistically, there
- 25:23Speaker 8: eventually has to be someone or something that never reverts
- 25:26Speaker 8: to the mean, Right, Yeah, there has to be some
- 25:29Speaker 8: outlier that's like, oh, wow, he hit.
- 25:32Speaker 9: What he was hitting four to seventy to start the season, and.
- 25:35Speaker 6: Then wow, it never he never reverted to the mean.
- 25:37Speaker 9: He just hit four seventy all the way through the heat.
- 25:40Speaker 8: Sort of feel like that to me, like maybe they
- 25:42Speaker 8: just never stopped shooting fifty percent from three. You know,
- 25:47Speaker 8: I think I went into this series I said nuggets
- 25:49Speaker 8: in five Tyler, I think you were nuggets in five
- 25:51Speaker 8: as well, Like, you know, we were all on the Nuggets.
- 25:54Speaker 8: I still think that's Nuggets is six. So I mean,
- 25:56Speaker 8: I still think that that's what happens. But they gave
- 25:58Speaker 8: me enough in game to to just be excited about
- 26:01Speaker 8: the statistical improbability of like what if they're just hot
- 26:05Speaker 8: for another two weeks and we look back on this forever, Like,
- 26:09Speaker 8: I don't know, an eight seed could just shoot fifty
- 26:11Speaker 8: percent for two months.
- 26:14Speaker 6: Yeah, you know.
- 26:17Speaker 7: My takeaway with you know, from the is kind of
- 26:19Speaker 7: the same thing Mike said, is that if they've been
- 26:21Speaker 7: doing this for a whole postseason, it's not just them
- 26:24Speaker 7: having a hot hand, right, Like, you know, you can't
- 26:26Speaker 7: say that that they're you know, just just you know,
- 26:28Speaker 7: playing with house money.
- 26:29Speaker 6: Now, this is who they are.
- 26:30Speaker 7: I mean, they were a game seven away from going
- 26:32Speaker 7: to the finals last year, right, And I think a
- 26:34Speaker 7: lot of us we were kind of down on them
- 26:36Speaker 7: this season because you know, they stunk it out regular season.
- 26:38Speaker 7: We didn't see that they were a legit contender. But
- 26:39Speaker 7: they've proven to be a legit contender this this postseason.
- 26:43Speaker 1: I guess what's interesting here. And by the way, the
- 26:46Speaker 1: Nuggets right now on bet three six five our minus
- 26:49Speaker 1: two to eighty favorites to win the finals. Miami is
- 26:52Speaker 1: plus two thirty. What's really interesting, And everybody right now
- 26:58Speaker 1: in NBA circles is talking about this lack of regression
- 27:03Speaker 1: to the mean for the Heat and because everybody in
- 27:06Speaker 1: the NBA is such a fucking geek, like they are
- 27:08Speaker 1: so wrapped into the numbers, right, but that regression. Everyone
- 27:13Speaker 1: always assumes aggression happens on a game to game basis
- 27:17Speaker 1: or but the truth is the regression usually happens over
- 27:23Speaker 1: a much bigger data set. And so it's very possible
- 27:27Speaker 1: the Heat have zero regression in the rest of these finals.
- 27:31Speaker 1: It's very possible the Heat continue to be a superior
- 27:35Speaker 1: three point shooting team for the rest of these finals.
- 27:37Speaker 1: And it's also very possible that Michael Porter Junior never
- 27:41Speaker 1: finds his shot during the finals. That makes it an
- 27:44Speaker 1: entirely different series. And look, I love the Nuggets. I
- 27:47Speaker 1: had my biggest bet is Nuggets minus one and a
- 27:49Speaker 1: half in the series. So at least in six or
- 27:52Speaker 1: at most in six. But Tyler, I don't know, man
- 27:57Speaker 1: like this Heat team. They could be the exception to
- 28:01Speaker 1: every rule.
- 28:03Speaker 7: Yeah you know, I'm I'm not gonna you know, beat
- 28:06Speaker 7: down anyone who says that that they can see the
- 28:08Speaker 7: heat when of this, I just don't, you know, I
- 28:10Speaker 7: think that you know, we discussed some of the podcasts
- 28:13Speaker 7: and this is going to sound like the corneous, hoosier
- 28:15Speaker 7: ass ship that I've ever.
- 28:16Speaker 6: Said about basketball.
- 28:18Speaker 7: But I think the biggest takeaway from this postseason is
- 28:20Speaker 7: we're getting the two teams.
- 28:22Speaker 6: That played the most like a unit in this postseason,
- 28:25Speaker 6: right like, you.
- 28:25Speaker 7: Know, the Nuggets and the Heat shoe machines, you know,
- 28:28Speaker 7: just well old, you know, moving effortlessly. And but but
- 28:32Speaker 7: I do think that you know, when it comes down
- 28:33Speaker 7: to and and the reason why, you know, I was
- 28:35Speaker 7: picking the Heat over over these other squads, and I
- 28:38Speaker 7: was like, cause, you know, execution, discipline.
- 28:40Speaker 6: They're going to execute better than the Celtics.
- 28:42Speaker 7: They weren't a more talented team than the Celtics, but
- 28:44Speaker 7: they executed better and that's why they sent them home.
- 28:46Speaker 7: I think that now you know that they're going up
- 28:48Speaker 7: against a team that executes us as well, and they've
- 28:50Speaker 7: got better players. So I think that this is where
- 28:52Speaker 7: where that that heat you know, Disney story stops here.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Mike, do you you're you're the one who listen you
- 29:00Speaker 1: brought up the R word. What's your take on my take?
- 29:07Speaker 8: No, I agree with you, Like I think that the
- 29:11Speaker 8: analytics movement in sports is sort of tricky because it's
- 29:14Speaker 8: not actually like.
- 29:17Speaker 9: When you consider analytics in any other set.
- 29:19Speaker 8: You're not looking at games as being this incredibly important thing, right, You're.
- 29:23Speaker 9: Not looking at, oh, this next time we.
- 29:25Speaker 8: Flipped the coins for the championship or something, you know,
- 29:29Speaker 8: And so you're right, like the regressions do tend to
- 29:31Speaker 8: happen in more of like a longer wave pattern, and
- 29:35Speaker 8: everyone is just sort of going, this is the game
- 29:37Speaker 8: where they'll shoot ten percent from three, and that really
- 29:39Speaker 8: isn't how it works.
- 29:40Speaker 9: So, like I said, I'm still I'm not going to
- 29:42Speaker 9: hop off.
- 29:43Speaker 8: By my Nuggets prediction yet, but after watching Game two,
- 29:47Speaker 8: I did just start thinking, I'm like, well, maybe this
- 29:49Speaker 8: is maybe this is it. I don't know, I could
- 29:50Speaker 8: very well see that happening.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Simon. I know you want to jump in because I
- 29:55Speaker 1: thought Tyler's comment about these are and I don't. I
- 29:59Speaker 1: don't think it's corny to call it a hoosier comment.
- 30:03Speaker 8: But corny on our podcast, Corny on our podcast exactly.
- 30:09Speaker 1: But these two teams just playing like you know, unit basketball.
- 30:15Speaker 1: But if let's say there is this current scenario where
- 30:19Speaker 1: the Heat continue to outperform as a better what is
- 30:24Speaker 1: your strategy. Do you adjust for what you think might
- 30:28Speaker 1: be the Heat being on a roll, or do you
- 30:31Speaker 1: play the form, which is the expectation things will regress quickly.
- 30:39Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's tough. I would say.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Just looking at this Denver team, I don't think they've
- 30:45Speaker 4: played well in two straight games. And that could either
- 30:48Speaker 4: be because Spolscher has done so well coaching and scheming
- 30:50Speaker 4: up against them. Well, they're just a team that didn't
- 30:53Speaker 4: play basketball for nine days in a compet like, you know,
- 30:56Speaker 4: high level competition. And Michael Porters has not found his shot.
- 31:00Speaker 4: We've watched He's had back to back games where he's
- 31:02Speaker 4: been under his total two and a half threes. Like
- 31:04Speaker 4: that's a big deal for a Denver team that defenses
- 31:08Speaker 4: suck in when the joker has the ball, like when
- 31:11Speaker 4: he's when he does the ball in the middle, teams
- 31:13Speaker 4: like to come in on them, right, They like get
- 31:16Speaker 4: we've seen sposh and make an adjustment. Though he goes,
- 31:18Speaker 4: you know, well, we're not gonna suck in. We'll let
- 31:19Speaker 4: him take those shots rather than him dishing the ball.
- 31:22Speaker 3: To those three point guys.
- 31:23Speaker 4: So, I mean we talked about before we heading into
- 31:26Speaker 4: this Chad though the Heat had a big, big, big
- 31:28Speaker 4: advantage on the coaching side of the ball. Now again,
- 31:32Speaker 4: we could talk at Nash how lucky they got in
- 31:34Speaker 4: that game, but I would say it's better there's a
- 31:36Speaker 4: lot of pros they've just.
- 31:38Speaker 3: Been riding this this Heat run.
- 31:40Speaker 4: I mean, we've never seen a run like this in NBA, right,
- 31:43Speaker 4: We've never seen a team be constantly eight point nine
- 31:46Speaker 4: point underdogs and then went in on two fifty on
- 31:48Speaker 4: the money line plus two thirty on the money line.
- 31:50Speaker 4: So I would say the pros that have been on
- 31:53Speaker 4: the Heat, they've been riding it, and the pros I've
- 31:56Speaker 4: been against him, they lost a ton of money on
- 31:58Speaker 4: that Milwaukee series.
- 32:00Speaker 3: They just haven't done shit since.
- 32:01Speaker 4: They just have not gone against them either, even when
- 32:03Speaker 4: those the Knicks, they didn't touch it. When it came
- 32:06Speaker 4: up to them against Boston, they were like, Okay, we'll
- 32:08Speaker 4: take them on the spread, but they really weren't touching
- 32:10Speaker 4: the series price or the money line.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I think a lot of these guys are trying to
- 32:13Speaker 3: flip Chad.
- 32:14Speaker 4: So I would say most pros I talked to coming
- 32:17Speaker 4: to this, coming into this series.
- 32:18Speaker 3: We're all in on, you know.
- 32:21Speaker 4: The Nuggets winning in six, the Nuggets winning in five,
- 32:24Speaker 4: I've seen them a lot of the tones changing now
- 32:26Speaker 4: where it's like, okay, heat in seven is not a
- 32:28Speaker 4: terrible bet. Like if this game does go seven, I
- 32:31Speaker 4: think we all can agree here. I mean, I want
- 32:33Speaker 4: to hear these guys' opinions. Wouldn't you take the heat
- 32:35Speaker 4: and game seven? I mean, this is the team that's
- 32:37Speaker 4: been tested, the Nuggets, They've been tested like they've not
- 32:41Speaker 4: been tested like this seat team. So we'll start you Tyler, like,
- 32:44Speaker 4: what do you think if this goes seven? You got
- 32:46Speaker 4: the heat in seven? If this does go to a
- 32:48Speaker 4: game seven.
- 32:49Speaker 7: Oh yeah, you know I do have the Nuggs six.
- 32:50Speaker 7: Or if it goes again seven, yeah, I'm running with
- 32:52Speaker 7: the heat. They've shown that, you know when game severals around,
- 32:55Speaker 7: they're the team with the bigger nuts. You know, there
- 32:59Speaker 7: was a quote from Damn in the post game where
- 33:02Speaker 7: you know, reporter ask them.
- 33:03Speaker 6: You know, it's it's been so many ups and downs
- 33:05Speaker 6: this postseason, and everyone's down to y'all. You know has
- 33:08Speaker 6: hasn't been stressed buy at all.
- 33:09Speaker 7: He's like, bro, this ship is fun, like you know
- 33:12Speaker 7: the the and usually you know a team that's that loose,
- 33:14Speaker 7: like in a game seven, that's the team that you
- 33:15Speaker 7: want to ride with.
- 33:16Speaker 6: So if it does go to game seven, I will
- 33:17Speaker 6: change my people. Like I said, I do have Nuggets six.
- 33:21Speaker 8: Yeah, you know we could talk analytics, but we also
- 33:23Speaker 8: talk about nut sizing buttholes on.
- 33:25Speaker 9: The show, right, like.
- 33:29Speaker 6: How tight is your butthole?
- 33:30Speaker 8: You know, like I can see if you're asking me
- 33:34Speaker 8: who's got the diner buttholes in game seven, I will
- 33:36Speaker 8: for sure say the Nuggets, even being at home, even
- 33:39Speaker 8: knowing that they've got, you know, sort of an unanswerable
- 33:44Speaker 8: weapon in Jokic. I would for sure be on the
- 33:48Speaker 8: heat in a game seven for for all the reasons
- 33:50Speaker 8: Tyler just outlined. I mean, I just you know, it's
- 33:54Speaker 8: sort of a double edged sword, like running through the
- 33:57Speaker 8: playoffs the way the Nuggets have. But you know, you saw,
- 34:00Speaker 8: if you watch Michael Mallow's press conferences, which we watched
- 34:02Speaker 8: all of them, a very different guy after Game two
- 34:06Speaker 8: than he was after you know, a loss to a
- 34:08Speaker 8: team earlier on like there was always a narrative he
- 34:10Speaker 8: was pushing or the media had this wrong or whatever.
- 34:13Speaker 8: And after game too, he would you know the quote
- 34:15Speaker 8: that's stuck with me. He's like, it's the freaking Finals, Like,
- 34:20Speaker 8: no one should need to tell you to play defense
- 34:22Speaker 8: with energy, no one should need to tell you you
- 34:24Speaker 8: need to make deep shots, and like it just sounded
- 34:26Speaker 8: to me like a coach that was like, we hoped
- 34:28Speaker 8: all season that we get to this point and not
- 34:32Speaker 8: do this, and here we did it at home with.
- 34:34Speaker 9: A chance to go up too.
- 34:35Speaker 8: Oh you know so I sense a little bit of
- 34:38Speaker 8: a concern from their coach on how.
- 34:40Speaker 9: They would be in another situation like that.
- 34:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say a really smart pro I talked
- 34:46Speaker 4: too often. He's been around, no joke, he's probably been
- 34:49Speaker 4: betting for over fifty years. He said, this Heat team
- 34:53Speaker 4: reminds him of that Chiefs team of football where the Chiefs.
- 34:55Speaker 4: If peop don't remember this, the Chiefs were winning one
- 34:58Speaker 4: score games all season. They were in tight games all season.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Their playoffs, the Jaguars, I think they won that game
- 35:03Speaker 4: by seven. When they beat the Bengals, they won that
- 35:05Speaker 4: game by three. They got to the Super Bowl. They
- 35:08Speaker 4: were down big at halftime. Nothing wavered the Eagles team
- 35:11Speaker 4: who had never been in close games.
- 35:13Speaker 3: That's your waiver. So that's my I get where.
- 35:16Speaker 4: They're coming from, this whole Nuggets thing where it's like
- 35:17Speaker 4: the Nuggets, Yes, they've been dominant, but have they been
- 35:20Speaker 4: tested like this Heat team? Like this Heat team is
- 35:22Speaker 4: so damn mentally strong and Mike you just talked about
- 35:26Speaker 4: with Joker, I would love to hear your opinion on it.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Have you ever seen a player in the NBA that's
- 35:31Speaker 4: ever looked more hungover every game than Joker?
- 35:35Speaker 3: I mean, have you ever seen a guy like this?
- 35:37Speaker 3: I've been going through my head.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Is there ever a guy that I remember that looks
- 35:41Speaker 4: more like a ymcame player that's just so dominant in
- 35:44Speaker 4: this league?
- 35:44Speaker 3: I would love to hear your take on this.
- 35:46Speaker 8: I mean, you look sharper and fresher at seven thirty
- 35:49Speaker 8: am after an all nighter than Joker looks, you know.
- 35:52Speaker 9: During the MVP runs.
- 35:53Speaker 12: Bro.
- 35:54Speaker 9: Yeah, Like I think that's the that's both.
- 35:57Speaker 8: Like when we talked about you know, some of the
- 36:00Speaker 8: we had a we had Merrow on our show and
- 36:02Speaker 8: he was talking about like no one in the barbershop
- 36:03Speaker 8: gives a shit about like That's that's why it's like
- 36:07Speaker 8: some people I think have a hard time engaging with him,
- 36:10Speaker 8: and then some other people see him and are like, damn,
- 36:13Speaker 8: he's like me, but you know, infinitely better, you know
- 36:15Speaker 8: what I mean.
- 36:17Speaker 9: I think that's kind of his the double edged sort
- 36:19Speaker 9: of his appeal for sure.
- 36:21Speaker 7: I think it's kind of between him and Dirk for
- 36:22Speaker 7: that award, and this probably turns into like the Doe
- 36:25Speaker 7: white guyard right now, right, But Dirk used to be
- 36:28Speaker 7: out there and bust and ask him like he was
- 36:30Speaker 7: just you know, eighteen yeager bombs in Long Long Special.
- 36:37Speaker 3: And everything.
- 36:39Speaker 1: You know, what's interesting is your your analogy about the
- 36:43Speaker 1: Chiefs is spot on. But also the way Michael Michael
- 36:49Speaker 1: Malone is talking to his team or about his team.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I think Eric Spostra gives the best mid game interviews
- 36:59Speaker 1: because he's never clipped. He always gives the reporter time
- 37:05Speaker 1: and respect, and he is also talking about the game
- 37:09Speaker 1: when his team isn't doing well in a really honest way.
- 37:14Speaker 1: That isn't coach speak. It's mental speak. It's preparation spree speak.
- 37:21Speaker 1: It's I got our guys are really tight right now,
- 37:23Speaker 1: they really want this, right now it's talking about the
- 37:27Speaker 1: opportunities to play in a game seven, what it means
- 37:30Speaker 1: to be in a game seven, that perspective, like that's
- 37:33Speaker 1: a nuanced thing. But he is so much better at
- 37:36Speaker 1: it than every other coach. And when you talk about like,
- 37:41Speaker 1: you know, balls and assholes like he's got like he
- 37:47Speaker 1: is never clenched and his balls are always big, I.
- 37:56Speaker 6: Will say, I will say, you know, I agree with
- 37:58Speaker 6: all of that.
- 37:58Speaker 7: And this is kind of an LA did not like
- 38:00Speaker 7: you know, how he responded to Romona Shoveburn in that
- 38:02Speaker 7: post game.
- 38:03Speaker 1: I didn't see that out that I didn't watch it.
- 38:06Speaker 7: Well, well, you know, Ramona shove wur She prefaced her
- 38:08Speaker 7: common she said, you know, I know I'm probably oversimplifying things.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Here, but it looked like your strategy here was to
- 38:12Speaker 6: make yo with a score.
- 38:13Speaker 7: And and you know, Spode came back and said, oh,
- 38:16Speaker 7: that's just such an untrained eye take or what have you.
- 38:18Speaker 6: But that's basically what he did, right, Like, it's.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Exactly what he did, and that's right.
- 38:22Speaker 3: That's why he was mad that she brought it up.
- 38:25Speaker 7: Right, right, it's exactly and that's your best chance, and
- 38:27Speaker 7: that's your best chance against the Nuggets, Yokich is the
- 38:29Speaker 7: best offensive player in the league. And I want to
- 38:31Speaker 7: and when I say offensive player, I want to clarify
- 38:33Speaker 7: because I he people hear that and they defaulted best scorer.
- 38:35Speaker 7: He's not the best scorer in the league. He is
- 38:37Speaker 7: the best generator of points in the league, best scorer,
- 38:39Speaker 7: best passer combination in the league. Right, he is the
- 38:41Speaker 7: best offensive player in the league. So when your your
- 38:43Speaker 7: best chances against the Nuggets are, Okay, we're going to
- 38:45Speaker 7: get in Yokich's jersey, We're gonna play him tough one
- 38:47Speaker 7: on one. If he busts, I asked, one on one,
- 38:49Speaker 7: that's fine, but we're gonna stay home on the shooters.
- 38:50Speaker 6: We're not going to give him any any you.
- 38:51Speaker 7: Know, easy doms. And that's what they did and that's
- 38:53Speaker 7: how they won that game. So so I didn't appreciate Spoe,
- 38:55Speaker 7: you know, snapping on Ramona in that way. And I
- 38:57Speaker 7: think a big part of it was, Okay, I'm really
- 38:59Speaker 7: not gonna get up here helf strategy with the championship
- 39:01Speaker 7: on the line.
- 39:01Speaker 6: I think it was more that than anything.
- 39:03Speaker 9: But yeah, I think I think I think that's exactly it.
- 39:06Speaker 8: Because he also said the second half of his answer
- 39:09Speaker 8: was just talking about how great Yorkic is and how
- 39:12Speaker 8: much respect they have for him.
- 39:13Speaker 12: It was clearly a like no, no, no, no, we have
- 39:16Speaker 12: all the bulletin board material, Like, I'm not here to
- 39:20Speaker 12: give them any bullet He knows who's up against.
- 39:24Speaker 7: Mike Malone is like the most NBA Twitter ass coach
- 39:26Speaker 7: in the league. He is someone who knows all the
- 39:28Speaker 7: Twitter's storylines and narratives and all that, and so yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 7: he for sure does not.
- 39:33Speaker 6: What to give them any bulletboard.
- 39:35Speaker 1: So Ramona asked that question. Spoe, you know, goes back
- 39:43Speaker 1: at her, but we all agree that's what he was doing.
- 39:46Speaker 1: And even even.
- 39:47Speaker 7: Draymond Green said it right, like one of the greatest
- 39:52Speaker 7: basketball minds in the.
- 39:53Speaker 1: World, Draymond your colleague of the volume he had Steve
- 39:56Speaker 1: Kerran and they both agreed, you gotta to cut off
- 40:00Speaker 1: Jamal Murray. He's the head of the snake and that's
- 40:03Speaker 1: essentially what they're doing. So what Spoe is doing is
- 40:06Speaker 1: exactly what everyone thinks they should be doing. The question
- 40:08Speaker 1: is what does he do now? Right when you guys
- 40:10Speaker 1: look at this, what do you think he does?
- 40:15Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 40:16Speaker 7: I like the thing is Jamal Murray. That Western comrespondence
- 40:19Speaker 7: he had was just absurd. Thirty five points per game,
- 40:21Speaker 7: fifty forty ninety splits, like he went crazy, right.
- 40:24Speaker 6: So you know, if if you can, you know, cut
- 40:26Speaker 6: his water off a little bit, that's your best shot.
- 40:27Speaker 7: And you know, like I said, you know, you live
- 40:29Speaker 7: with Yogach busting your ass one on one and not
- 40:32Speaker 7: you know, being fucking doctor Strange with the dimes out there.
- 40:34Speaker 8: So yeah, I mean, I just I think I really
- 40:38Speaker 8: like defensive basketball, and I love watching this heat teams run,
- 40:41Speaker 8: Like to see a team switch like two three to
- 40:45Speaker 8: one two one, like to watch them flip zone matchups
- 40:49Speaker 8: around and see how you know, they're testing Jamal Murray's
- 40:53Speaker 8: ability to process that in the moment. You know, but
- 40:56Speaker 8: it feels very I told John to Tyler this, like
- 40:59Speaker 8: it feels very like high school college basketball. You just
- 41:01Speaker 8: don't really see that kind of an approach in the NBA.
- 41:04Speaker 8: So I would guess I don't think they're going to simplify.
- 41:07Speaker 8: I think that they will continue to try and get
- 41:09Speaker 8: more complex to sort of win that race, right of
- 41:12Speaker 8: like no, no, no, we don't want you to settle in
- 41:14Speaker 8: at all.
- 41:15Speaker 9: And then at some.
- 41:15Speaker 8: Point something changes there and.
- 41:19Speaker 9: Maybe they start trying to double Yokich or something, you know.
- 41:21Speaker 8: I mean, I don't know, but I would guess that
- 41:24Speaker 8: until one thing about spoke, he will not change his
- 41:27Speaker 8: strategy until he has to change his strategy. Right, Like wait,
- 41:30Speaker 8: like where would you playing that at all? Like if
- 41:33Speaker 8: you run, if you run the ball for six yards again,
- 41:35Speaker 8: you just do it eighteen times in a row, right,
- 41:37Speaker 8: you know, I don't think the math adds up there, but.
- 41:39Speaker 9: You know what I mean?
- 41:41Speaker 8: So, I like, he will continue to run this type
- 41:44Speaker 8: of a coverage until it backfires. And I think if
- 41:47Speaker 8: you're going to Miami where the crowd is going to
- 41:50Speaker 8: be absolutely insane, and you're hoping basically just that the
- 41:54Speaker 8: shooters don't find the touch, like, that's a that's probably
- 41:57Speaker 8: a decent bet to make as a coach.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Right now, of all these undrafted players that this Miami
- 42:02Speaker 4: Heat teams making us run with all these three and
- 42:04Speaker 4: D guys, do you think is the most care free?
- 42:07Speaker 3: Like who's playing with house money right now?
- 42:08Speaker 4: Out of all these guys that are undrafted in Miami,
- 42:11Speaker 4: We'll start with you, Mike gay.
- 42:12Speaker 8: Vincent was a UC Santa Barbara bro I mean with
- 42:14Speaker 8: all due respects, like he was playing Big West basketball.
- 42:17Speaker 8: If you've ever seen the gyms in the Big West,
- 42:19Speaker 8: like he was at UC Riverside in a high school gym,
- 42:22Speaker 8: he was at Seasun in a like fourteen hundred person gym.
- 42:25Speaker 8: That dude is playing in the NBA Finals. He knows
- 42:27Speaker 8: for sure that whatever happens over the next week, he
- 42:30Speaker 8: has a very nine figure type future ahead of him.
- 42:35Speaker 8: I think he's thoroughly enjoying his life right now. And
- 42:38Speaker 8: and Spoe, I think is the right coach to reinforce
- 42:41Speaker 8: that message to those dudes, because you don't see any
- 42:43Speaker 8: tension or hesitation in them at all, even after what
- 42:46Speaker 8: happened in the Celtics series.
- 42:47Speaker 9: They came in in Game seven, they were like, yeah,
- 42:48Speaker 9: we knew we're going to be Game seven, you know
- 42:50Speaker 9: what I mean. So he's the one.
- 42:52Speaker 6: He's the one.
- 42:53Speaker 9: To me, man, I haven't watched him play in college.
- 42:54Speaker 8: It's just like insane to see what he's getting to
- 42:57Speaker 8: do on our biggest stage right now.
- 42:59Speaker 6: Yeah, it's a sure gave missus to me too.
- 43:01Speaker 7: And he's got you know, his free agent the summer,
- 43:03Speaker 7: big payday on the way for him. It's crazy because
- 43:06Speaker 7: there was a run in Game two when when Gaye
- 43:09Speaker 7: Vincent was on the bench and there was like a
- 43:10Speaker 7: fifteen four run or something that that that the Nuggets
- 43:13Speaker 7: went on and I was just I was just like, bro,
- 43:15Speaker 7: you have to win the minutes without gave Vincent. And
- 43:17Speaker 7: that is not a thought I would have ever thought
- 43:20Speaker 7: that a championship team, what happens on there, bulletin board,
- 43:23Speaker 7: you know what I mean, the championship contendency win the
- 43:26Speaker 7: minutes about gave Vincent.
- 43:27Speaker 6: I never thought that would be a legit bullet point
- 43:28Speaker 6: for a championship was firing team, right, But that's where
- 43:31Speaker 6: that's where we are now.
- 43:31Speaker 7: Also, Duncan Robinson, man, he you know, he had a
- 43:34Speaker 7: chance to to lock that series up. Game six, miss
- 43:36Speaker 7: two threes, you know, versus Boston in the Eastern Commerce Finals.
- 43:39Speaker 7: You know, went to game, went to Boston, balled out.
- 43:42Speaker 7: Game seven was stalk ship to the crowd, stolar ship
- 43:44Speaker 7: in the Democrat game too. So you know he's loosey,
- 43:46Speaker 7: goosey too. That's just kind of heat culture. Man, It's
- 43:48Speaker 7: just you know, keep firing, keep shooting, you know, you know,
- 43:50Speaker 7: like I said, the loose boot the loose booty old team,
- 43:54Speaker 7: so you know that's kind of their day.
- 43:56Speaker 1: All right, guys, listen you you said it, but I
- 43:59Speaker 1: wanted on the record for official confirmation. The series is
- 44:04Speaker 1: tied one to one, Tyler, I'm starting with you. Who
- 44:08Speaker 1: wins the series? And in how many games?
- 44:11Speaker 6: Nuggets in game six?
- 44:12Speaker 7: In six games, and I do not see the Nuggets
- 44:14Speaker 7: winning three in a row. So I think they take
- 44:17Speaker 7: Game three, and I think that the Heat take Game four,
- 44:21Speaker 7: then five to six.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Go to dinner, Mike.
- 44:25Speaker 8: My original prediction was Nuggets in five. I would move
- 44:28Speaker 8: to Nuggets and six as well, and I think Tyler's
- 44:30Speaker 8: got it exactly right, except I will, well, no, actually no,
- 44:35Speaker 8: I think the Heat.
- 44:36Speaker 9: Win Game three, and then I think the Nuggets the.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Yeah, because I think I do.
- 44:42Speaker 8: I do think that Spoe has less arrows in the
- 44:47Speaker 8: quiver because of the talent differential that you talked about.
- 44:51Speaker 8: And I do think that Michael Malone is not spending,
- 44:55Speaker 8: however many hours a week watching the town, so I
- 45:01Speaker 8: do think that he will have an answer to that,
- 45:04Speaker 8: and at some point there is an answer for the
- 45:07Speaker 8: Nuggets that the Heat will not be able to respond to.
- 45:10Speaker 9: So I will I will go with Nuggets in six.
- 45:12Speaker 1: All right, there you have it, Nuggets and six. Listen,
- 45:15Speaker 1: we like the Nuggets and six two. It's the biggest
- 45:17Speaker 1: bet I have. Like I said, I.
- 45:19Speaker 9: Know, when did you make When did you get in
- 45:21Speaker 9: on that?
- 45:22Speaker 1: I bet it? Before the series, I had Nuggets minus
- 45:24Speaker 1: one and a half, so I essentially need them to
- 45:27Speaker 1: win in five or six games another.
- 45:30Speaker 6: Like minus four hundred before the series kicked off. Now
- 45:32Speaker 6: they're down at like minus two eighty, is it?
- 45:33Speaker 1: I think yes, minus two eighty at Bet three sixty five.
- 45:36Speaker 1: You know, by the way, if you still like the Nuggets,
- 45:39Speaker 1: you're getting it cheaper than you did before started.
- 45:42Speaker 6: That's a good price right there.
- 45:43Speaker 3: Yeah, all right?
