- 0:58Speaker 2: Two questions.
- 0:59Speaker 3: One with EPs in the secondary working blank and ship,
- 1:04Speaker 3: it seems like the back end has gotten a little
- 1:08Speaker 3: more stabilized. EPs is not quite as gung ho as
- 1:13Speaker 3: Sidney Brown is, so that's my one question is what
- 1:18Speaker 3: do you think of that with epsin there. The second
- 1:20Speaker 3: question relates to something I saw against the Redskins. Is
- 1:25Speaker 3: the old line seemed to be getting stood up on
- 1:29Speaker 3: some places. They mentioned that on the broadcast, and Meryl
- 1:31Speaker 3: also mentioned it on the audio. Does that mean that
- 1:35Speaker 3: the defensive line is getting the jump and forcing them
- 1:39Speaker 3: up or they just the old line is not getting
- 1:41Speaker 3: the push. So there's my two questions.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I mean, I don't spend much time on there. But
- 1:46Speaker 4: so the first question with Epps, you know, I love
- 1:50Speaker 4: the way he plays the game. He he's a veteran,
- 1:53Speaker 4: he's experienced, he came up the hardway, so he's feisty
- 1:58Speaker 4: and and I think there's something to be said for
- 2:04Speaker 4: you know, there's there's something to be said for players
- 2:06Speaker 4: that can control. I don't want to say Sidney Brown
- 2:09Speaker 4: plays out of control, but he he plays you can
- 2:13Speaker 4: play fast, and you can almost play too fast, and
- 2:15Speaker 4: I kind of feel like at times and that and
- 2:17Speaker 4: that comes with experience. And so for me, I think
- 2:20Speaker 4: that veteran presence of Epps, the understanding the game slowed
- 2:24Speaker 4: the game down, yet at the same time still have
- 2:27Speaker 4: the ability to move around still, can you know, make plays,
- 2:29Speaker 4: make calls, make tackles. I think that's really what this
- 2:32Speaker 4: defense needed at this point right now. You know, I
- 2:37Speaker 4: still look at Blankenship as kind of a young guy
- 2:40Speaker 4: as well, So it's kind of tough to have one
- 2:45Speaker 4: young guy and another even more young guy at the
- 2:49Speaker 4: safety to critical positions in the way the NFL is today,
- 2:52Speaker 4: and so you got to have some kind of a
- 2:54Speaker 4: veteran presence there and I think that's exactly what Epps
- 2:57Speaker 4: brings to the table. And as far as the old line, yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 4: you know, it's a it's a tough it's a tough
- 3:05Speaker 4: one because some of it is snap count, some of
- 3:09Speaker 4: it is you know, uh, the variability of the play calls.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I think it's a big mixture of of a little
- 3:21Speaker 4: bit of the system and how it's operating. Some of
- 3:25Speaker 4: it is experience. Again, we got, you know, quite a
- 3:28Speaker 4: few guys that are kind of new to the positions
- 3:31Speaker 4: on the old line, And a little bit of it
- 3:33Speaker 4: is attitude, man like, if you know, if you know
- 3:35Speaker 4: the ball, if you know the ball is about to
- 3:38Speaker 4: be ran, you need to get your butt down and
- 3:41Speaker 4: get ready to go right. Don't let the don't let
- 3:43Speaker 4: the defensive line take the fight to you. And so
- 3:46Speaker 4: it's a little bit of an attitude thing. So it's
- 3:47Speaker 4: kind of a mixture of all those things. But to me,
- 3:50Speaker 4: the biggest thing is there has to be a little
- 3:53Speaker 4: more very variability in the play calling. I think it's
- 3:57Speaker 4: just too stagnant. I think the the book is kind
- 4:00Speaker 4: of out on our system already and it's it's gotta
- 4:04Speaker 4: it's got to start to change.
- 4:06Speaker 5: So, just like Carl, I have two questions. First question
- 4:09Speaker 5: is if you were the dB coach for the Eagles
- 4:14Speaker 5: right now, given and I don't know how much you've
- 4:18Speaker 5: you've watched the games just as a fan and looked
- 4:21Speaker 5: at any tape or whatever, but of you know between
- 4:27Speaker 5: a Dori Jackson and Bennett and Ringo and the rookie
- 4:38Speaker 5: whatever his last name is, No, not mccoob. I'm not
- 4:42Speaker 5: talking about safety. I'm talking about corner, Mac McWilliams, m
- 4:46Speaker 5: williams and now they have Michael Carter. They have all
- 4:49Speaker 5: these gods.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Just based on whatever little or how much you've seen them,
- 4:56Speaker 5: who would you be playing outside opposite Kill.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a great question. So early in the season,
- 5:06Speaker 4: I was not an adri Jackson fan. I don't think
- 5:09Speaker 4: I've ever been a fan of his. I've not. I
- 5:14Speaker 4: didn't like him at Tennessee. I didn't think he was
- 5:17Speaker 4: much at at the Giants. But I will say the
- 5:20Speaker 4: last few games he's been he's been stepping his game up.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I will say he's been playing tighter, tighter to the receivers.
- 5:26Speaker 4: He's been playing with more awareness of where he's at.
- 5:29Speaker 4: He's been playing more aggressive. I think earlier in the
- 5:32Speaker 4: in the in the year, maybe he was a little
- 5:36Speaker 4: maybe he was still learning the defense, or he just
- 5:39Speaker 4: looked tentative. Back back there, he looked tentative and scared
- 5:42Speaker 4: and not I don't want to say he's scared, but
- 5:45Speaker 4: just tentative and afraid to take a take a chance
- 5:49Speaker 4: on the play. That makes sense. And so I would
- 5:51Speaker 4: say last couple of games, he's kind of stepped up
- 5:54Speaker 4: and he's kind of won me over. And so right
- 5:57Speaker 4: now I would totally have a lot of confident in
- 6:00Speaker 4: Jackson right now. Across from Q. Cooper obviously is the
- 6:05Speaker 4: man like he's a great player, great young player. So
- 6:08Speaker 4: it's Q blanket ship does what he does. I love
- 6:11Speaker 4: what he's doing in EPs, and I just think that
- 6:13Speaker 4: they found the right combination of experience and youth in
- 6:18Speaker 4: that back end, and that's what we got to work with.
- 6:22Speaker 3: How does the communication work with the other, with the
- 6:25Speaker 3: other safety to kind of patchall hall, so to speak.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Because we never never see that.
- 6:33Speaker 2: Yeah, so we how often does that happen? By the way,
- 6:35Speaker 2: also how often does that happen in a given game?
- 6:39Speaker 4: It can happen quite often. Especially it happens more so
- 6:42Speaker 4: on coverages like cover three, where in gym's defense. In
- 6:47Speaker 4: our cover three, you want to roll down to a
- 6:49Speaker 4: certain side. So let's say one week we are playing
- 6:55Speaker 4: the the Chiefs and they put Kelsey. Let say it's
- 6:59Speaker 4: two by two and they put Kelsey in the slot
- 7:01Speaker 4: and then they put whoever in the other slot. Well,
- 7:04Speaker 4: if we practice it all week a certain way, Let's
- 7:07Speaker 4: say we were trying to roll down the Kelsey side.
- 7:10Speaker 4: But if we had a brain farre in the game
- 7:12Speaker 4: and we went down to the wrong side, we would
- 7:15Speaker 4: We'd have two ways to fix it. We would either
- 7:18Speaker 4: slide the linebackers over or the middle safety. You better
- 7:22Speaker 4: start yelling at that guy. Hey, we gotta roll. We
- 7:24Speaker 4: gotta spin it. Spin it, spin it. When you say
- 7:26Speaker 4: spin it, that's all it is. You just roll one
- 7:29Speaker 4: guy back into the other guy down. Another thing we
- 7:33Speaker 4: used to do, and it happened a lot of times
- 7:34Speaker 4: with blitz, is if if we had a blitz and
- 7:37Speaker 4: we showed it and the quarterback saw it and he
- 7:40Speaker 4: starts changing protections. He got it picked up. We would
- 7:43Speaker 4: just go o maha, omaha, omaha, and then we would
- 7:46Speaker 4: just get out of all of it. We get out
- 7:47Speaker 4: of the blitz and then we just played straight coverage.
- 7:51Speaker 4: So we had multiple ways to counter those those type
- 7:53Speaker 4: of situations, But the biggest one is communication and just
- 7:57Speaker 4: checking where each other's at before the snap, which I
- 7:59Speaker 4: often did.
- 8:01Speaker 3: That's the one thing I see with Cooper Dejene and
- 8:03Speaker 3: our linebackers, and we saw it really last year, especially
- 8:06Speaker 3: since nanagain. But you can see it's one thing with
- 8:10Speaker 3: Big Banjo. He is really really big on is you
- 8:13Speaker 3: see them talking to each other and switching things up.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
