- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
- 0:03Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
- 0:06Speaker 1: where we left off with the Hillary Clinton transcript from
- 0:09Speaker 1: her trip to Congress. Question, our colleagues have suggested that
- 0:13Speaker 1: they need to speak with you because Glenn Maxwell's nephew
- 0:16Speaker 1: worked for you or your 2008 presidential campaign and then
- 0:21Speaker 1: at the State Department when you were Secretary of State.
- 0:24Speaker 1: That is somebody named Alexander Derossi. Are you familiar with
- 0:28Speaker 1: Alexander Derossi? Answer, I am. Alex DeRossi volunteered for my
- 0:32Speaker 1: 2008 presidential campaign. I didn't know him. I don't know
- 0:36Speaker 1: what motivated him to be a volunteer, but he proved
- 0:39Speaker 1: to be a very effective contributor to the campaign. He
- 0:42Speaker 1: earned a paid position on the campaign. All of my
- 0:45Speaker 1: staff that interacted with him on the campaign had a
- 0:48Speaker 1: very high regard for his intelligence and his skill. He's
- 0:50Speaker 1: an extremely well-educated young man. And when I became Secretary
- 0:54Speaker 1: of State, he was recommended for a job that he
- 0:57Speaker 1: was well-suited for. I had absolutely no idea that he
- 1:00Speaker 1: was in any way related to Glenn Maxwell until I
- 1:03Speaker 1: received a subpoena from this committee suggesting that he was,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and that was the first I knew of it. Oh, bullshit.
- 1:09Speaker 1: What a goddamn lie. Holy cow. Question, so it's fair
- 1:12Speaker 1: to say that as far as you know, Mr. DeRossi
- 1:15Speaker 1: was not hired for your campaign or at the State
- 1:17Speaker 1: Department because he was Glenn Maxwell's nephew? Answer, that is
- 1:22Speaker 1: absolutely fair to say. And I can't speak for everyone
- 1:25Speaker 1: in my campaign. Obviously, it's a huge enterprise, but I'd
- 1:28Speaker 1: be surprised if anyone knew that he was related to
- 1:30Speaker 1: Glenn Maxwell. But I can absolutely testify to the fact
- 1:34Speaker 1: I did not know. Question, are there any other accusations
- 1:37Speaker 1: or claims that have been made against you with respect
- 1:40Speaker 1: to Mr. Epstein or Ms. Maxwell that you'd like to
- 1:42Speaker 1: address before we move into some chronological questions? Given her
- 1:46Speaker 1: every out possible, this is a sham. And I don't
- 1:49Speaker 1: care what side of the aisle you're on, it should
- 1:52Speaker 1: disgust you. Answer. Well, I don't keep up with all
- 1:57Speaker 1: the conspiracy theories and all the crazy allegations that populate
- 2:00Speaker 1: the internet, so I'm sure there are, but I'll do
- 2:03Speaker 1: my best to answer your questions as you pose them. Question. Okay,
- 2:06Speaker 1: I'll ask a series of chronological questions. I know most
- 2:09Speaker 1: of these are from long time ago. If you don't recall,
- 2:11Speaker 1: just tell me that you don't recall. As an initial matter,
- 2:15Speaker 1: would you recall roughly how many events and receptions would
- 2:18Speaker 1: you have attended at the Answer, well, I was privileged
- 2:23Speaker 1: to be at the White House as First Lady for
- 2:25Speaker 1: eight years. And I have no way of giving you
- 2:27Speaker 1: an accurate number, but they would be in the thousands.
- 2:30Speaker 1: And they were one of the greatest privileges of being
- 2:32Speaker 1: in the White House, hosting events, hosting meetings, meeting people,
- 2:36Speaker 1: using the rooms of the White House, using the grounds
- 2:38Speaker 1: of the White House. So many hundreds, maybe thousands of events,
- 2:42Speaker 1: but many, many thousands of people. Question, and I was
- 2:46Speaker 1: just going to ask if I could estimate how many
- 2:48Speaker 1: people you might have met at those hundreds and thousands
- 2:51Speaker 1: of events and receptions? Answer, well, counsel, I can't say
- 2:55Speaker 1: I met every person who attended an event, and so
- 2:57Speaker 1: I can't really give you an accurate number. But if
- 3:00Speaker 1: the event was a smaller event, perhaps I would meet everyone.
- 3:03Speaker 1: But for most of the large events that we hosted,
- 3:05Speaker 1: it was hit or miss if I met somebody or
- 3:08Speaker 1: didn't meet somebody. For the huge Christmas reception, which were
- 3:11Speaker 1: thousands of people that would come enjoy the holiday decorations
- 3:15Speaker 1: at the White House, so I can't really give you
- 3:17Speaker 1: a total clear answer other than that, but I did
- 3:19Speaker 1: my best to greet people and to be appropriate hostess
- 3:22Speaker 1: because I took seriously my responsibility as the First Lady. Question,
- 3:27Speaker 1: so Mr. Epstein visited the White House a fair amount
- 3:30Speaker 1: during your husband's first term in office. One, and I
- 3:33Speaker 1: think the only specific event that we're aware of where
- 3:36Speaker 1: you may have been present was, as you mentioned earlier,
- 3:38Speaker 1: a September 29th, 1993 reception for donors to a White
- 3:43Speaker 1: House renovation project that was funded through the White House
- 3:46Speaker 1: Historical Associations. And our understanding is that there was some
- 3:50Speaker 1: kind of reception that night. Do you have any recollection
- 3:53Speaker 1: of attending that event or that reception? Answer, I have
- 3:57Speaker 1: no specific recollection, but I know that I was expected to,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and I assume I did, but I can't sitting here
- 4:02Speaker 1: today describe anything specific about that event. And I was
- 4:06Speaker 1: very anxious to support fundraising that went to the White
- 4:09Speaker 1: House Historical Association that in turn supported the upkeep, the
- 4:13Speaker 1: maintenance of the White House. because certainly it was an
- 4:16Speaker 1: old building with a lot of very valuable furniture and art,
- 4:19Speaker 1: and it took a lot of wear and tear because
- 4:21Speaker 1: I just finished explaining we had thousands of people who
- 4:23Speaker 1: would come through. And I'm not even talking about visitors
- 4:27Speaker 1: who would come through because that was many, many more thousand.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So the house itself needed to be carefully cared for.
- 4:34Speaker 1: And so my husband and I hosted the events, and
- 4:37Speaker 1: the White House Historical Association brought those who contributed because
- 4:41Speaker 1: it was ultimately beneficial for the White House. Question, would
- 4:45Speaker 1: it be correct to say that sitting here today, you
- 4:47Speaker 1: have no specific memory or recollection of meeting Mr. Epstein
- 4:50Speaker 1: or Ms. Maxwell at the event in 93? Answer, that's
- 4:54Speaker 1: an accurate statement. In fact, when I got the subpoena,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I was incredulous because I never thought I was in
- 4:59Speaker 1: the same room with Jeffrey Epstein, and it was brought
- 5:02Speaker 1: to my attention that he was very likely to have
- 5:04Speaker 1: attended the White House Historical Association, but I have no
- 5:07Speaker 1: independent recollection of that. Question, okay, it's been publicly reported
- 5:11Speaker 1: that Mr. Epstein visited the White House 16 other times
- 5:15Speaker 1: during your husband's first term. He was signed in by
- 5:18Speaker 1: different staff members and visited different parts of the White House.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Broadly speaking, do you have any memory or knowledge of
- 5:25Speaker 1: any other visit by Jeffrey Epstein to the White House
- 5:29Speaker 1: other than the ones we just discussed? Answer, not that
- 5:32Speaker 1: I recall, but I want to be clear. That doesn't
- 5:34Speaker 1: mean that I didn't pass somebody in the hallway, that
- 5:36Speaker 1: somebody didn't pop in, But I have no recollection of
- 5:39Speaker 1: meeting him, seeing him, conversing with him in the White House. Question,
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm going to fast forward all the way to 1999.
- 5:46Speaker 1: We believe that Mr. Epstein contributed $ 20, 000 to joint fundraising
- 5:50Speaker 1: account with the Democratic Party. Would you have any specific memory, knowledge,
- 5:55Speaker 1: or recollection of that particular contribution sitting here today? Answer,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I do not. And again, this was something that I
- 6:01Speaker 1: learned about in preparation for testifying. And as you point out, counsel,
- 6:05Speaker 1: the contribution went to the joint committee that was set
- 6:08Speaker 1: up to support my Senate campaign. And again, my memory
- 6:11Speaker 1: is that we couldn't coordinate between joint committees and campaigns.
- 6:15Speaker 1: I mean, those were the rules back in the day,
- 6:17Speaker 1: as I recall them. So I don't have any recollection
- 6:20Speaker 1: at all that I knew he contributed to my campaign
- 6:23Speaker 1: and he did not contribute as far as I know directly.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But then this indirect contribution to the joint committee, I
- 6:30Speaker 1: don't recall that. I knew that at the time. and
- 6:32Speaker 1: I was surprised to learn in preparation for testifying. Question,
- 6:37Speaker 1: so at this point, towards the end of your husband's presidency,
- 6:40Speaker 1: how would you characterize your relationship at that point with Mr.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Epstein and Ms. Maxwell? Answer, non-existent. Question, thank you. Moving
- 6:48Speaker 1: to the period after your husband's presidency again, we don't
- 6:51Speaker 1: really have much of a record to work off of.
- 6:54Speaker 1: There is public reporting that sometime in 2007, Ms. Maxwell
- 6:58Speaker 1: may have hosted a fundraiser for your presidential campaign in
- 7:01Speaker 1: New York City. We don't know much about it. Christina
- 7:04Speaker 1: Aguilera may have performed, if that's helpful. Do you have
- 7:07Speaker 1: any specific recollection of that event? Answer, I do not.
- 7:11Speaker 1: But again, I've been told and reminded that there was
- 7:13Speaker 1: an event with a very large host committee for my campaign,
- 7:17Speaker 1: and Christina did appear, and I believe performed. I have
- 7:20Speaker 1: no further information than that. I was attending many, many
- 7:23Speaker 1: fundraising events, and I don't recall any specific encounter. or
- 7:27Speaker 1: conversation with anyone, including Ghislaine Maxwell. Question, Ms. Maxwell also
- 7:32Speaker 1: appeared to have donated $ 2, 300 to your presidential campaign that year.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Do you have any memory or knowledge of that specific contribution? Answer,
- 7:40Speaker 1: I do not. Question, would it be fair to say
- 7:42Speaker 1: that your presidential campaign likely would have had a fair
- 7:45Speaker 1: number of donors donating $ 2, 300 thereabouts? Answer, oh, many, many thousands.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I don't recall the exact number, but my best memory
- 7:55Speaker 1: is that We raised nearly a billion dollars, and so
- 7:58Speaker 1: it was a fast, frenetic pace. And I'm grateful for
- 8:01Speaker 1: everyone who contributed, obviously, but I have no specific recollection
- 8:05Speaker 1: of her contribution. Question, it's been widely reported, and we,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I think, discussed in the previous hour, that in July
- 8:12Speaker 1: of 2010, Ms. Maxwell attended your daughter's wedding in Rhinebeck,
- 8:16Speaker 1: New York, and she may have accompanied Ted Waite, who
- 8:19Speaker 1: was reportedly a family friend, or at least was at
- 8:22Speaker 1: the time. You, of course, were also present at the wedding.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Do you have any recollection of Ms. Maxwell's attendance at
- 8:29Speaker 1: the wedding? Answer, I have no specific recollection. Obviously, there's
- 8:33Speaker 1: a picture of her being at the wedding as my
- 8:35Speaker 1: husband walks my daughter down the aisle. She was there
- 8:38Speaker 1: as a guest of Ted Waite, someone we had known
- 8:40Speaker 1: for 30 years, I believe, who was a strong supporter
- 8:43Speaker 1: of my husband and became a friend. And there were
- 8:46Speaker 1: more than 500 people at the wedding. So other than
- 8:49Speaker 1: that picture of her at the wedding, I have no
- 8:51Speaker 1: recollection of talking with her. I was pretty focused on
- 8:54Speaker 1: my daughter and the wedding party and the wonderful occasion
- 8:57Speaker 1: that it was. So I don't recall having any conversation
- 9:00Speaker 1: other than the fact that she was there and she
- 9:02Speaker 1: was there as Ted Waite's guest. Question and the understanding
- 9:06Speaker 1: that you had, if any, about the relationship with Mr. Waite.
- 9:10Speaker 1: What was your understanding of that if you have one?
- 9:12Speaker 1: Question that they must have been dating. And this was,
- 9:14Speaker 1: of course, long before certainly I knew anything about the
- 9:17Speaker 1: activities she was charged with engaging in and the crimes
- 9:21Speaker 1: that she was convicted of. Oh yeah, because you had
- 9:23Speaker 1: no idea. There was no talk about it, huh? Absolute bullshit. Question.
- 9:29Speaker 1: During her interview last year with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, Ms.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Maxwell said that she may have met you on a
- 9:34Speaker 1: flight from Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard to New York. That's
- 9:38Speaker 1: not a lot to go on, and I would note
- 9:40Speaker 1: that one of the charges Ms. Maxwell faced was perjury.
- 9:44Speaker 1: But do you recall ever meeting Ms. Maxwell on a
- 9:46Speaker 1: flight from Massachusetts to New York? Answer. I don't recall it.
- 9:50Speaker 1: I'm not going to say it didn't happen, but I
- 9:52Speaker 1: don't recall it. And my memory too, counsel, and you
- 9:55Speaker 1: would have to check this, but I believe I was
- 9:57Speaker 1: told that in her long interview with Todd Blanche, It's
- 10:00Speaker 1: Todd Blanche, right? Yeah. Question. Yeah. Todd Blanche. Answer. Todd Blanche.
- 10:04Speaker 1: The deputy attorney general. She herself said that she attended
- 10:07Speaker 1: the wedding as Ted Wade's guest. Question. In that same interview, Ms.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Maxwell said she visited your home in Chappaqua a few
- 10:15Speaker 1: times and that she was invited. Do you have any
- 10:18Speaker 1: memory or knowledge of Ms. Maxwell being invited to or
- 10:20Speaker 1: visiting your home? Answer, I do not. And I was
- 10:23Speaker 1: not present for any visit if one occurred. Question, it's
- 10:26Speaker 1: been reported that in September of 2013 at a Clinton
- 10:30Speaker 1: Global Initiative conference in New York, Ms. Maxwell was recognized
- 10:34Speaker 1: as a commitment to Action Partner for her work on
- 10:37Speaker 1: behalf of the Terramar Project, which is an ocean conservation
- 10:40Speaker 1: nonprofit that she founded in 2012. Do you have any
- 10:44Speaker 1: recollection of whether you were at that event? So that's
- 10:47Speaker 1: a Clinton Global Initiative conference in New York in September
- 10:50Speaker 1: of 2013. Question, I believe I attended the conference, but
- 10:55Speaker 1: during the conference, there are many different sessions going on.
- 10:59Speaker 1: There are some main stage sessions with very high profile people.
- 11:03Speaker 1: We've had an extraordinary collection of world leaders, including Pope
- 11:06Speaker 1: Francis and others. But then there are many of what
- 11:09Speaker 1: are called breakout sessions that are smaller sessions where people
- 11:12Speaker 1: gather usually around the issue they're interested in. So in
- 11:16Speaker 1: this case, if it had been the oceans, there might
- 11:18Speaker 1: have been a breakout session about that. And I do
- 11:21Speaker 1: not recall seeing her there. I do not recall any
- 11:23Speaker 1: knowledge of her being there. But if she was there
- 11:27Speaker 1: and she were making a commitment, it would have been
- 11:29Speaker 1: in one of these smaller sessions. And I have to add,
- 11:33Speaker 1: in 2013, Ms. Maxwell spoke at the United Nations. She
- 11:36Speaker 1: gave a TED Talk. She was featured for her work
- 11:39Speaker 1: about oceans in a long profile on CNN. So she
- 11:42Speaker 1: had a public persona there. that the UN, the TED
- 11:45Speaker 1: Talk people, CNN, and the press all recognized because nobody
- 11:48Speaker 1: at the time knew what was later discovered. That's a lie.
- 11:52Speaker 1: 100% a lie. Everybody knew. 2013? Give me a fucking
- 11:58Speaker 1: break already. Question, and is it right to say, and
- 12:01Speaker 1: it sounds like you would not have heard any direct
- 12:03Speaker 1: role in organizing whatever her role was at that particular event, Clinton,
- 12:08Speaker 1: not that I recall. Question, At that point in 2013,
- 12:13Speaker 1: if you recall, how would you have characterized your relationship
- 12:16Speaker 1: with Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell? Answer, I had no relationship,
- 12:20Speaker 1: no knowledge of, never met, or talked to Jeffrey Epstein.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I viewed Ghislaine Maxwell as an acquaintance, someone that I
- 12:26Speaker 1: might see, but I had no real relationship with her. Question,
- 12:30Speaker 1: thank you, thank you. All right, we're going to wrap
- 12:33Speaker 1: up right here. And in the next episode dealing with
- 12:35Speaker 1: the topic, we're going to pick up where we left off.
- 12:38Speaker 1: All the information that goes with this episode can be found...
- 12:41Speaker 1: in the description box.
