- 0:03Speaker 1: Yo Boulet keV show Man. We got a special guest
- 0:05Speaker 1: in here. Eighteen year NBA veteran Damn Trevor Rees is
- 0:11Speaker 1: a legend all right, man, Look I'm a Suns fan
- 0:14Speaker 1: if you could tell by the signed Devin Booker Jersey
- 0:16Speaker 1: behind you.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Okay, but books in the building, I have to ask
- 0:19Speaker 2: you about this.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Just to kick the interview off, you will have a
- 0:22Speaker 1: random cup of tea in Phoenix for a year.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And this was the year we drafted DeAndre Aiden's.
- 0:28Speaker 2: A couple of months.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it was quick because I think did you end
- 0:31Speaker 1: up in the Kings after that?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:35Speaker 3: Yeah, it's I've been in a lot of places, so
- 0:38Speaker 3: I think I did end up in Sack after that, So.
- 0:40Speaker 2: This was like, uh No, I didn't. I was in
- 0:43Speaker 2: DC after that. Yeah.
- 0:45Speaker 1: This was like a weird year because the Sons drafted
- 0:47Speaker 1: DeAndre Aiden passed on Lukadankic despite having Igor as the coach.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Igor didn't last very long. But you come in to
- 0:56Speaker 1: kind of be the veteran hypothetically like all these young brothers.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I think Josh Jackson's on the team. Was there any
- 1:07Speaker 1: like blowback in the building or how do people feel
- 1:11Speaker 1: about them picking Da over Luca, considering they had Luca's
- 1:14Speaker 1: national coach as the coach of the Sons.
- 1:17Speaker 3: When I was there, I didn't really I didn't really
- 1:20Speaker 3: hear none of that, you know, because I wasn't there
- 1:23Speaker 3: before they drafted, you know, so after they drafted, they
- 1:28Speaker 3: I believe they just I don't even know. Honestly, I
- 1:33Speaker 3: can't tell you about if there was blowback or anything,
- 1:36Speaker 3: but ship if Luca would have been there, I probably
- 1:37Speaker 3: would have been there. So you know, you know, thank you.
- 1:42Speaker 2: How was How was?
- 1:43Speaker 1: Because that's kind of like the beginning of like Alpha book.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah, because I felt.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Like the bubble year comes and then you know, we
- 1:50Speaker 1: go undefeated, Like what was your just limited time around
- 1:52Speaker 1: Booker as a teammate.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I watched book work his ass off. I watched him,
- 1:57Speaker 3: you know, continue to try to find ways to be
- 2:00Speaker 3: as good as he can. I saw him out work everybody,
- 2:04Speaker 3: and you know, he just that want to take his
- 2:07Speaker 3: take the next step in his career at that time
- 2:09Speaker 3: was very very like he was pressing for that, like
- 2:12Speaker 3: he wanted that and not pressing in a bad way,
- 2:15Speaker 3: but he wanted every moment. He wanted to be in
- 2:18Speaker 3: every moment where it all fell on his shoulders.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's dope. Man.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Now you got this event happening back home. Yeah, Turks
- 2:29Speaker 1: July thirty first, that's next weekend. This is dope, man.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I didn't even know you were from Turks.
- 2:35Speaker 3: A lot of people don't know that. I don't really
- 2:37Speaker 3: talk that much, so you know, a lot of people
- 2:39Speaker 3: wouldn't know that unless they knew me.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah, so you were the first guy to like, I know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: your dad was like a really popping basketball player there, right,
- 2:47Speaker 1: but like you're the first guy to make it to
- 2:48Speaker 1: like one of the major leagues.
- 2:51Speaker 3: First, and so far the only one, right, So we're
- 2:54Speaker 3: trying to change that narrative.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Well, I always wonder when you're coming up in a
- 2:58Speaker 1: place like that, like you were talking about the ads
- 3:01Speaker 1: from the Bahamas, I would like, like there's probably the
- 3:05Speaker 1: uphill battle to get into just the world of like
- 3:09Speaker 1: professional basketball has to be so much greater because you're
- 3:13Speaker 1: so you're far away, like like what was that journey like?
- 3:16Speaker 2: So for me, Well, I was born in Miami.
- 3:19Speaker 3: You know, both of my parents, my whole family's from
- 3:21Speaker 3: Turks and Keekos, but usually around I guess my time
- 3:27Speaker 3: even now a lot of a lot of the parents
- 3:30Speaker 3: try to have their kids be born in the States
- 3:32Speaker 3: or the UK.
- 3:33Speaker 2: That makes sense.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Just more opportunities and and you know, a bigger world
- 3:39Speaker 3: for lack of better words, and more opportunities to be
- 3:43Speaker 3: able to to go into whatever field that there is
- 3:46Speaker 3: out there for you.
- 3:47Speaker 2: That's dope, man.
- 3:49Speaker 1: What is the breakdown this weekend though, Like, yeah, I'm
- 3:52Speaker 1: obviously gonna be a lot of a lot of your
- 3:54Speaker 1: homies go.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So this weekend, it's going to be a
- 3:58Speaker 3: lot of athletes. They're golfing with me for that for
- 4:04Speaker 3: that initiative. They like to golf a lot of them.
- 4:07Speaker 3: But we're doing like different activations. We're trying to combine
- 4:10Speaker 3: the community with a lot of the local business leaders
- 4:16Speaker 3: and also do activations in sports and basketball. That's something
- 4:19Speaker 3: that got me. The platform that I do, got got
- 4:23Speaker 3: me the notoriety that I do have. And I always
- 4:26Speaker 3: just thought that if I was able to be able
- 4:29Speaker 3: to make it to where I made it to, there
- 4:33Speaker 3: has to be more people from where I'm from that
- 4:35Speaker 3: could do the same thing or even take it further.
- 4:38Speaker 3: So you know, being able to come back and show
- 4:42Speaker 3: them just things that I learned over my way over
- 4:44Speaker 3: my journey.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Is more than important.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Is it also like important to try to get the
- 4:51Speaker 1: resources out there for up and coming athletes have a pipeline.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I feel like the AAU world makes.
- 4:58Speaker 2: It like.
- 5:00Speaker 1: It's expensive.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I know your son is he goes to Orgon.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Right, Yeah. I have a son that goes to Oregon here.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know, I got a son who does
- 5:08Speaker 1: AAU tournaments. We just went to Vegas for a tournament
- 5:11Speaker 1: and that shit, Like I was like, bro, we spent
- 5:13Speaker 1: like three thousands.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's just one tournament. That's for the whole summer.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You could be spending twenty twenty five thousand.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:20Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:20Speaker 3: So for kids that don't have that ability or is
- 5:24Speaker 3: not can afford that, where do they go?
- 5:27Speaker 2: What do they do?
- 5:28Speaker 3: And being from a small island like Turce and Kekos
- 5:31Speaker 3: where the resources are limited in that way given trying
- 5:37Speaker 3: to find ways to bring more resources and give them
- 5:41Speaker 3: the opportunity the same way as we had here or
- 5:44Speaker 3: the same way that I was afforded. I feel like
- 5:46Speaker 3: that's a duty of mine.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I want to talk to you. I am the biggest
- 5:50Speaker 1: Warriors hater and in the twenty eighteen season, or the playoffs.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I finally thought they were done. I was like, Chris
- 6:02Speaker 1: Paul gets injured. You as the Rockets are having this crazy,
- 6:06Speaker 1: just crazy run, CP goes down obviously heartbreaking, man. I
- 6:10Speaker 1: think if he would have gotten injured, things probably would
- 6:13Speaker 1: have gone different.
- 6:13Speaker 2: When you agree with that absolutely.
- 6:18Speaker 1: You go zero for nine from the three, Yeah, I
- 6:21Speaker 1: think you guys missed thirty seven three pointers in Game seven.
- 6:24Speaker 2: That shit is crazy.
- 6:25Speaker 1: It was what I was sitting in a pool in Scottsdale, Arizona,
- 6:29Speaker 1: and I was just like, what is if y'all would
- 6:32Speaker 1: have made five more than formal s man?
- 6:36Speaker 2: To be honest with you, that shit was like. So
- 6:42Speaker 2: they have like this like.
- 6:44Speaker 3: Sometimes when you train in when you shoot, they have
- 6:46Speaker 3: like this thing that you put on the rim that
- 6:48Speaker 3: makes the rim a little bit smaller. So in order
- 6:50Speaker 3: for the ball for you to make the shot, it
- 6:52Speaker 3: got to be it gotta be perfect. I feel like
- 6:56Speaker 3: one of those Liz was on that on the second
- 6:58Speaker 3: half of the game.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah. And you know what's so crazy is I feel
- 7:01Speaker 1: like Darryl Moury and Mike D'Antoni were right, like they
- 7:06Speaker 1: built the team. Like Darryl Morriy always said he was
- 7:09Speaker 1: like building the team to beat the Warriors.
- 7:10Speaker 3: It's just the Yeah, we had opportunities to beat them,
- 7:14Speaker 3: but again, you know the basketball guys, wasn't they wasn't
- 7:18Speaker 3: they wasn't feeling us at that point in time. It
- 7:21Speaker 3: was something that we must have did wrong in the
- 7:22Speaker 3: beginning of the season to prepare for that.
- 7:24Speaker 2: So when you.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Look back at him, because obviously you've had some incredible
- 7:29Speaker 1: teams you've been a part of, obviously two thousand and
- 7:31Speaker 1: nine one in the ship with the Lakers, But do
- 7:34Speaker 1: you feel like that Rockets team was the best team
- 7:36Speaker 1: you were on.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Man, it's probably one of the best teams, like, but
- 7:41Speaker 3: statistically probably the best team.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Because you had hard and MVP season right yeah, yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 1: CP cooking yeah, and just.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Just shooters Pat Wait, Pat wasn't there.
- 7:54Speaker 1: We had the PJ Tucker center year.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Tuck was there Loop yep, myself. Those are three pieces
- 8:00Speaker 3: that you could just you could just move around. Then
- 8:04Speaker 3: you had Clint back there, young Clint Capella, who could guard,
- 8:08Speaker 3: you know, a live threat protect the rim. Then you
- 8:10Speaker 3: had nine coming in. He switched who switched it up,
- 8:15Speaker 3: switched up styles when he came in a game, very
- 8:17Speaker 3: aggressive on defense, very smart, able to you know, uh
- 8:21Speaker 3: kind of quarterback the defense. And then we had Jeff Bisdelick,
- 8:26Speaker 3: what a lot of people don't really know who was
- 8:28Speaker 3: one of the defensive coaches. Who was he coached with
- 8:33Speaker 3: with what's his name George Carl for a long time, right,
- 8:37Speaker 3: and he just was brilliant and he brought in, you know,
- 8:41Speaker 3: our schemes with with our personnel and the combination of
- 8:44Speaker 3: what we had him and coach D'Antoni for the offense,
- 8:48Speaker 3: it was like we had all the tools necessary to
- 8:51Speaker 3: win a championship. We just again fucked around and went cole.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Did you because it always felt like there was a
- 8:58Speaker 1: real disdain between the Rockets and Warriors for like two
- 9:01Speaker 1: or three seasons. Did you guys really feel some type
- 9:03Speaker 1: of way about the Warriors?
- 9:06Speaker 3: I feel like you would feel the way if somebody
- 9:08Speaker 3: kicked your ass every day, right, you know. And we
- 9:11Speaker 3: were a team that we are confident, We had a
- 9:14Speaker 3: good time. We we cared for each other, and we
- 9:17Speaker 3: covered for each other on the court, and you know,
- 9:20Speaker 3: we weren't a bad team as well, so we felt
- 9:24Speaker 3: like we could beat them. But yeah, you're gonna feel
- 9:28Speaker 3: a way about a team that constantly finds ways to
- 9:31Speaker 3: get over, you know, beating you.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It's just like playing a video game.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I mean, that's what they did. When they got ad
- 9:37Speaker 1: it was like and then there was the year they
- 9:39Speaker 1: got DeMarcus, which I think they lost that year.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Actually, no, they didn't have them, I don't think.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I think it was the year after when they lost
- 9:45Speaker 1: the when they lost the Rappers. Yeah, yeah, the five
- 9:49Speaker 1: All Stars.
- 9:52Speaker 2: And we only had what too.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. So all right, another podcast brought to you
- 9:56Speaker 1: by odd Socks. That's right, baby, Listen, guys, we gotta
- 10:00Speaker 1: stop playing here. The most comfortable socks in the world.

- 11:19Speaker 1: odd socksofficial dot com promo code bootleg and save some
- 11:23Speaker 1: money and get some socks. Man, Thank me later. Is
- 11:26Speaker 1: there something, because like I feel like CP gets Depending
- 11:29Speaker 1: on who you ask, he is a very He's a
- 11:31Speaker 1: polarizing guy in the league. Like some people who play
- 11:34Speaker 1: with him, they like they have negative things. But then
- 11:36Speaker 1: there's other people who play with him that are like, yo,
- 11:38Speaker 1: he was, but it always felt like when he was
- 11:41Speaker 1: with the Suns on our championship run. Yeah, that in
- 11:44Speaker 1: the final two or three minutes of the game, there
- 11:47Speaker 1: was a calmness because he had the ball.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I mean you for his game and what he's done.
- 11:53Speaker 3: I mean, when is the last time that Phoenix went
- 11:56Speaker 3: to out.
- 11:57Speaker 1: The play well, yeah, before that it was two thousand
- 12:01Speaker 1: and yeah, I think it was twenty eleven.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:04Speaker 3: And then he gets there and they go to the
- 12:06Speaker 3: finals when it's the last time they've been to the
- 12:08Speaker 3: finals probably only once too, right, ninety three or.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Something free with the Bulls against the Bulls.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Yeah, So if one player can come in and change
- 12:17Speaker 3: your organization and help get to those in those moments,
- 12:23Speaker 3: I mean, can you argue with.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yeah, Like, how can you argue with that?
- 12:28Speaker 1: I always told people, like the Thunder year, when you
- 12:30Speaker 1: went to the Thunder and it was supposed to be
- 12:32Speaker 1: a throwaway year and he got him like the four
- 12:34Speaker 1: or five seed.
- 12:35Speaker 3: And look and look what that turned into. That get
- 12:37Speaker 3: a cornerstone franchise superstar player to shape them. Same thing
- 12:42Speaker 3: that I feel like happened with Book, but got around him,
- 12:46Speaker 3: learned the ways that he was able to teach and
- 12:49Speaker 3: book was able to be the player that he needed
- 12:53Speaker 3: to be as far as that that killer to go
- 12:55Speaker 3: out there and score and play his game, you know,
- 12:57Speaker 3: the way that he needs to be for that franchise
- 13:00Speaker 3: to be as good as they were at that time.
- 13:03Speaker 2: You know, he changes a lot of careers.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You have played for some of the greatest coaches of
- 13:08Speaker 1: all time. I always wonder you get traded midway well,
- 13:14Speaker 1: the next season, your second year in the league, you
- 13:15Speaker 1: get traded, did you how how much did you actually
- 13:19Speaker 1: get to be around Larry Brown?
- 13:20Speaker 3: I was around Larry Brown from when he started in
- 13:24Speaker 3: the Knicks for the Knicks until I was out of there.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Because when did you get traded?
- 13:28Speaker 2: Was it mid February?
- 13:29Speaker 1: So February so it was kind of midway through the
- 13:31Speaker 1: season break. Yeah, so round the trade deadline was Because
- 13:35Speaker 1: I always wonder the contrast of like a guy like
- 13:38Speaker 1: Phil Jackson who always is like woos and then you
- 13:41Speaker 1: got Larry Brown, who's like just angry, but they're both incredible,
- 13:49Speaker 1: like both all time great coaches.
- 13:52Speaker 3: In the In the moment, PJ is like he knows
- 13:58Speaker 3: how to I believe he does a really good job
- 14:01Speaker 3: of managing personalities because there's a system that's already in place.
- 14:05Speaker 3: The only thing you gotta do is continue to learn
- 14:07Speaker 3: the system and work so being able to manage like
- 14:13Speaker 3: big egos and superstar players and make them mesh well
- 14:17Speaker 3: with role players or players that don't play that much.
- 14:21Speaker 3: To get to get the most out of everybody, I
- 14:23Speaker 3: feel like you got to be a great like manipulator
- 14:26Speaker 3: of man how to.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Deal with people's egos. And he obviously dealt with all
- 14:31Speaker 1: kinds of big threes and Rodman and let Rodman go
- 14:33Speaker 1: to Vegas for a night.
- 14:35Speaker 3: You gotta know your you gotta know what how you're
- 14:37Speaker 3: gonna get the best out of your players. And if
- 14:39Speaker 3: that's what it takes, then that's what it takes. At
- 14:41Speaker 3: the end of the day, it's about the results, right,
- 14:44Speaker 3: no matter how you get there, it's just a results.
- 14:46Speaker 3: And I feel like Coach Brown. Coach Brown was like
- 14:51Speaker 3: he's going to every day, He's going to pound on
- 14:53Speaker 3: what you need to do or how we need to
- 14:55Speaker 3: get it done. And you don't realize how good of
- 14:58Speaker 3: a of a mote evader he is until you go
- 15:01Speaker 3: somewhere else. You know, you don't even understand how important
- 15:05Speaker 3: he is until you're you're now in his position or
- 15:09Speaker 3: you're trying to teach other younger players. Yeah, exactly.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Damn that's what the was talking about, because.
- 15:16Speaker 1: That had that had to be a wild locker room.
- 15:18Speaker 1: It was like Steph Marbury, Steady Curry like, Yeah, it
- 15:25Speaker 1: was like it was like a lot of it was.
- 15:26Speaker 1: That was one of those Nix seasons that I'm sure
- 15:28Speaker 1: Knicks fans would like to forget about. So tell me. Okay,
- 15:32Speaker 1: so you end up you're with the Magic and stan
- 15:36Speaker 1: Van Gundy and then you get traded to the Lakers
- 15:38Speaker 1: and then you help the Lakers beat the Magic in
- 15:42Speaker 1: the finals.
- 15:42Speaker 2: That was a good moment for me personally.
- 15:45Speaker 1: I can imagine you have a chip on your shoulder.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I've always had a chip on my shoulder though, right
- 15:51Speaker 3: from the beginning of my career. I've always had like
- 15:56Speaker 3: these people just don't understand like what I can do, right,
- 15:59Speaker 3: So being able to play the team that didn't believe that, Yeah,
- 16:05Speaker 3: and maybe even they maybe it wasn't the fact that
- 16:07Speaker 3: they didn't believe that I could help their team, it's
- 16:10Speaker 3: just the fact that maybe the players that were that
- 16:14Speaker 3: were there at the time just fit what he liked
- 16:16Speaker 3: better than what I could do at that point in time.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I mean, you end up having these two clutch steals
- 16:22Speaker 1: in the game, and like being such an integral part
- 16:25Speaker 1: of that team. You were damn near like the Scottie
- 16:28Speaker 1: Pippen of that team, like if you will, like it
- 16:31Speaker 1: was a bit it was it was like I feel
- 16:33Speaker 1: like that was like you're coming out party too right now?
- 16:35Speaker 1: Like now that turned you into like a household name.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Well, I mean playing for the Lakers, you're pretty you know,
- 16:40Speaker 3: and getting You're on a big stage. So if you
- 16:43Speaker 3: if you play well and you know you you play
- 16:46Speaker 3: hard and you receive you're received well around the world
- 16:49Speaker 3: because the Lakers is such a high profile organization.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I saw you say that Kobe's won a Lebron's one
- 16:57Speaker 1: b all time.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Is that is that when you don't count Jordan's okay, when.
- 17:03Speaker 1: You don't count Jordan, so you think Jordan, we're putting
- 17:06Speaker 1: Jordan number one.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Yeah, Jordan is not even he don't count.
- 17:09Speaker 1: He doesn't count.
- 17:10Speaker 2: He's like, Jordan doesn't count.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Yeah, what is the okay? Because Lebron's going to he
- 17:17Speaker 1: just went to Philly, right, which I don't think a
- 17:19Speaker 1: lot of people expected, But what would Lebron have to
- 17:21Speaker 1: do because he is on this unprecedented stretch of I
- 17:26Speaker 1: think it's year twenty two now.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Twenty four, which is fucking that is nuts. That's cool, though,
- 17:31Speaker 3: I want to see him get to twenty five. No,
- 17:34Speaker 3: nobody ain't gonna never Cach.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I'm just curious, like for you, as somebody who went
- 17:38Speaker 1: up against him and somebody who played with Kobe, what
- 17:42Speaker 1: more does he have to do for people to be like, Nah,
- 17:46Speaker 1: he's the goat.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I don't.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I just I think everybody has their own like personal
- 17:54Speaker 3: preference on what they like. It ain't about who's who
- 17:58Speaker 3: because they all are different. The most comparable players, I
- 18:03Speaker 3: guess would be Kobe, Kobe and Jordan because their.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Game was similar.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, but bron game is completely different things their games.
- 18:12Speaker 1: We haven't really seen anybody at that level of greatness
- 18:14Speaker 1: be able to do so much at such a high level.
- 18:16Speaker 3: Yeah, he does a lot of different things, and he
- 18:18Speaker 3: does all the small things too that maybe your eighth
- 18:22Speaker 3: or nine man would do, and he still makes the
- 18:25Speaker 3: spectacular plays that your superstar would do.
- 18:29Speaker 1: So what are your thoughts on him choosing Philly and
- 18:32Speaker 1: how do you think that's gonna pan.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Out, Well, I got like I have interest like different
- 18:41Speaker 3: type of views. For a number of reasons. I think
- 18:44Speaker 3: their team is going to be really good because again
- 18:47Speaker 3: Bron is still Lebron James. He does a lot of
- 18:50Speaker 3: different things, just had a great season, and he doesn't
- 18:52Speaker 3: have to be like your main Yeah, he doesn't score,
- 18:56Speaker 3: he don't got to be your main anything with the
- 18:59Speaker 3: guys you got, But the way he drives the game
- 19:03Speaker 3: and like the business parts of it, I feel.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Like he was cheated a little bit.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Why and because he's a huge draw to the game,
- 19:12Speaker 3: Like how much money do you feel like he's created
- 19:15Speaker 3: for the game for the.
- 19:15Speaker 1: NBA billions and billions and billions of dollars.
- 19:19Speaker 2: And probably still going to create billions.
- 19:21Speaker 1: And it's always said the right things. It's always went
- 19:24Speaker 1: on whatever trips they want them on.
- 19:26Speaker 3: I don't know about all that, Like I'm just saying,
- 19:28Speaker 3: like from the outside, look.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Right, but yeah, he's he's Yeah. Shout out to our
- 19:32Speaker 1: brothers a hard Dean man OTTs family. Of course, they've
- 19:35Speaker 1: been sponsoring the podcast for years now. You've been seeing
- 19:38Speaker 1: the mic flag for years now. Want to give a
- 19:40Speaker 1: shout out to our brothers. I just was in Vegas.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I had to pull up all right, Look, it's the
- 19:43Speaker 1: number one dispensary in the world. When I tell you,
- 19:46Speaker 1: walk in that thing and the buttenders are great. They
- 19:50Speaker 1: take care of you immediately. The selection is great. So
- 19:53Speaker 1: when you go to Vegas, you get into that cab,
- 19:55Speaker 1: you get into that uber immediately, say take me to Hardean.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Don't know what they're doing, all right, they go get
- 19:59Speaker 1: you right, all right, the number one premium cannabis dispensary
- 20:02Speaker 1: in the world. They just got me right. I was
- 20:04Speaker 1: just in town for Raffie's birthday. Had to pull up.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Get right, just this nice little one to one Hardeing jersey.
- 20:11Speaker 1: These are not available, all right. Shout to them, man,
- 20:14Speaker 1: all right, salute to the family. Follow them on Instagram.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Harding Underscore Las Vegas. Sorry, let's get back to the podcast.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So why do you feel like Lebron was cheated with this?
- 20:24Speaker 3: Okay, So there's there's two parts to this, right. There's
- 20:28Speaker 3: the player, the competitor, and then there's the business man. Right,
- 20:33Speaker 3: So as players like emotionally we be like into the game,
- 20:40Speaker 3: into the players that you play with. But then like
- 20:44Speaker 3: there's a business side to it right and understanding, like
- 20:47Speaker 3: worse than what you are and what you bring. There's
- 20:51Speaker 3: a value on that, right, regardless of how old you are,
- 20:55Speaker 3: how long you've been doing something, there's a value for that.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Yeah too, you know from me just personally, him planning
- 21:06Speaker 3: for whatever for me they publicized. I'm not sure if
- 21:10Speaker 3: that's the right one.
- 21:11Speaker 1: So so you think, because you know you, I think
- 21:14Speaker 1: he said he was going to sacrifice a payday.
- 21:17Speaker 2: For he fucking did. That's huge.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy. You get him on essentially a minimum.
- 21:22Speaker 1: It's not quite the minimum, but it's it's right there. Yeah,
- 21:24Speaker 1: it's kind of crazy.
- 21:26Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 21:27Speaker 1: But again, and then then you look at the Lakers
- 21:29Speaker 1: and you're like, what what happened there? Where he could
- 21:31Speaker 1: like he because if he had tooken a pay cut
- 21:33Speaker 1: with the Lakers, they probably could have still had the Kessler.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Bro Like, nah, it wasn't it was. It probably was
- 21:39Speaker 3: time for him to to move on.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you could kind of tell they're like just full
- 21:43Speaker 1: Luka mode. Whatever you want, man, they would have got
- 21:47Speaker 1: a center.
- 21:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean yeah, yeah, it was just probably time
- 21:52Speaker 3: for him to move on. It just it's kind of
- 21:55Speaker 3: crazy to see like someone like that playing or taking
- 22:01Speaker 3: a business, like the business part of it kind of
- 22:04Speaker 3: feiling like that. And I'm not even saying that it's
- 22:07Speaker 3: a fail, but it's just it just don't add up
- 22:10Speaker 3: for what he is and what he does.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Yeah, and then the other thing that sucks is we're
- 22:14Speaker 1: in this second apron like salary cap era where like
- 22:18Speaker 1: players really like a guy like Lou Dort gets traded
- 22:20Speaker 1: for four second round picks and he was on first NBA.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Defense last year.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like what is but they can't afford to
- 22:25Speaker 1: keep everybody?
- 22:26Speaker 2: I know, that's crazy.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Do you feel like the new salary cap rules are
- 22:31Speaker 1: squeezing out vets?
- 22:34Speaker 2: I've been doing it for a long time.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Because a guy like Russell Westbrook is still not on
- 22:38Speaker 1: a team. And it happened last year too.
- 22:40Speaker 2: That's my point, Like wait.
- 22:42Speaker 3: A minute, yeah, like what he's done for the league,
- 22:46Speaker 3: nobody has done production wise too. Nobody has done that,
- 22:49Speaker 3: Like he.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Was looking nice on the Kings last year.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Like nobody is doing what he's doing, and like the
- 22:56Speaker 3: narrative that's being put and he's not even a bad dude,
- 23:00Speaker 3: you know what I mean. He's always giving back, he's
- 23:02Speaker 3: always helping his teammates. He's always trying to find ways
- 23:05Speaker 3: to make his teammates better, regardless of you know, things
- 23:09Speaker 3: that people highlight about what may be a deficiency, but
- 23:14Speaker 3: still every player has a deficiency. Look at his production,
- 23:17Speaker 3: look at what he's doing.
- 23:19Speaker 1: What do you think Because you were on the Russell
- 23:22Speaker 1: Westbrook Laker team.
- 23:24Speaker 2: That was your final year, yep, that was my last year?
- 23:27Speaker 1: What went wrong there?
- 23:28Speaker 3: I mean everything went wrong. Everybody's old at ship on
- 23:31Speaker 3: the team. It was it's just putting together a bunch
- 23:34Speaker 3: of players that you know, were really really good at
- 23:38Speaker 3: a point in time when you.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Got hell coming off the bench. It was just like
- 23:42Speaker 1: a in theory. It felt like it was supposed to
- 23:45Speaker 1: be like an expandable What was what's the name of
- 23:47Speaker 1: that movie with like Sylvester Stallone and yeah, expandables.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I mean.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Just looked miserable though. I was like, oh man, this
- 23:56Speaker 1: is just just not working. It was like a basketball
- 23:58Speaker 1: fit thing.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Everybody play inside the paint, So when there's no space
- 24:04Speaker 3: inside the paint, how do you You can't really, you
- 24:07Speaker 3: can't tell Russ who is the point guard, to go
- 24:09Speaker 3: stand in the corner and expect them to shoot forty percent.
- 24:13Speaker 3: He don't got no rhythm to the game.
- 24:14Speaker 1: He's crazy too, because they got Malik Monk that you're
- 24:17Speaker 1: on the on the minimum and then after that Malik
- 24:19Speaker 1: left him went crazy.
- 24:21Speaker 2: Malik's a really good player.
- 24:22Speaker 1: He's really good. Yeah, what if you had to tell
- 24:26Speaker 1: me what what? Because you like we talked about the coaches.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Thing you've played for Mike d'An TONI, you've played for
- 24:33Speaker 1: Spoe for a second.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I love Spo Phil.
- 24:38Speaker 1: What is your I'm sure for different reasons, but but
- 24:41Speaker 1: but which coach was your favorite? Not necessarily your best
- 24:44Speaker 1: coach that you ever had, but your favorite.
- 24:47Speaker 2: I got two favorites.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Rick Adaman was one, Okay, he was really good my
- 24:53Speaker 3: first time in Houston, yep. And my second favorite is Money.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Williams money Man.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Yeah, Money is really good, a great person, a great guy.
- 25:03Speaker 3: And his exit. I don't think there's anybody, even the
- 25:07Speaker 3: best coaches who x'es and O's was as like on
- 25:10Speaker 3: point as his.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yeah, the Money thing is like worked in Phoenix until
- 25:14Speaker 1: it didn't. You you you guys had you were there,
- 25:18Speaker 1: like what with the Pelicans?
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yea, the Hornets.
- 25:23Speaker 3: So it was his first year we went the three,
- 25:27Speaker 3: we went to the playoffs second round, first or second round.
- 25:30Speaker 3: We played the Lakers. Jared Jack Jared Jack was on
- 25:32Speaker 3: that team, No p J.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Brown.
- 25:36Speaker 3: So the second year, the team is in the middle
- 25:40Speaker 3: of getting so so the CP ends up leaving.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Are you there? When the trade gets vetoed.
- 25:48Speaker 3: D West ends up leaving and then the league owns
- 25:51Speaker 3: the team. So we got like I guess they call
- 25:55Speaker 3: him two way players now, but back then it was
- 25:57Speaker 3: like G League. So we had like like seven G
- 26:01Speaker 3: League players on our team, and the team was trying
- 26:05Speaker 3: to figure out how to like what to do? So
- 26:08Speaker 3: what I so then I started looking at it from
- 26:10Speaker 3: a business perspective, all right, we want to have a
- 26:14Speaker 3: low salary cap, right, possibly see if what we can
- 26:19Speaker 3: do to get like, you know, a really hot pick,
- 26:22Speaker 3: which they ended up getting a number one pick, being
- 26:25Speaker 3: Anthony Davies, right, and then like you know, whoever purchases
- 26:33Speaker 3: the team, they have this great asset with this young.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Cornerstone number one pick.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, so they got pieces to trade and
- 26:41Speaker 3: you got the number one pick and who was Anthony Davis?
- 26:45Speaker 1: What is it like being on a team that's tanking?
- 26:47Speaker 1: It is because you've been on some taking ass teams like.
- 26:51Speaker 3: As a competitor, and at that point in my career,
- 26:53Speaker 3: it's like miserable because I've won pretty much like all
- 26:58Speaker 3: the places that I've been from high school to you know,
- 27:00Speaker 3: all the way.
- 27:01Speaker 2: So you know when you are.
- 27:03Speaker 3: When you like to compete, when you like to to
- 27:06Speaker 3: win more than you like when you hate losing more
- 27:10Speaker 3: than you like to win. You know, that's being on
- 27:13Speaker 3: a team that's tanking is like miserable.
- 27:15Speaker 1: What do you think the record wise? Do you remember
- 27:18Speaker 1: the worst team you played on in the NBA, like
- 27:21Speaker 1: the worst like where it was just like.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Jesus, that had to probably be it the Hornets. Yeah, yeah,
- 27:27Speaker 3: I think that probably was it.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Talk to me, man, because when we think about you've
- 27:34Speaker 1: talked about Kobe a lot in a lot of podcasts,
- 27:37Speaker 1: But I want to know, what is a random Phil
- 27:38Speaker 1: Jackson story you could share.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Phil Jackson he used to say some off the wall
- 27:45Speaker 3: things like crazy stuff like he used to just tell
- 27:49Speaker 3: us about places that he was from and some of
- 27:51Speaker 3: the things that they would say or do where he's from.
- 27:54Speaker 3: And it was just like it's not really you can't
- 27:57Speaker 3: really talk about that, not enough bad way.
- 28:00Speaker 2: It's just some crazy.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Shit, he's off the wall, dude. Is the like what
- 28:05Speaker 1: do you make y'all do yoga?
- 28:06Speaker 2: And shit?
- 28:06Speaker 1: Is that like a real thing?
- 28:07Speaker 3: Where I think when when I played for the Lakers,
- 28:12Speaker 3: we used to do a lot of meditating before you
- 28:14Speaker 3: watch film. So and in the playoffs, they were there
- 28:19Speaker 3: were themes to each series and like each series was
- 28:22Speaker 3: its shaped differently, right, So they used to pick out
- 28:26Speaker 3: movies that was similar to the opponent.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Yeah, So like Phil would be like, hey, everyone watched
- 28:35Speaker 1: this movie.
- 28:36Speaker 2: No.
- 28:36Speaker 3: In our film sessions, he would put clips of different
- 28:40Speaker 3: parts of the movie, like so it'll be like a
- 28:42Speaker 3: ten minute clip to get you locked in right to
- 28:45Speaker 3: the movie. And then he'll just will go into like
- 28:48Speaker 3: a quarter of what we need to work on and
- 28:50Speaker 3: then he'll, you know, move on.
- 28:52Speaker 1: And what was the movie he was using against the
- 28:55Speaker 1: Magic Like, what was the do you remember.
- 28:57Speaker 2: The I don't remember.
- 28:58Speaker 3: But the movie that I do remember is when we
- 29:00Speaker 3: were playing against Denver and it was the movie was
- 29:04Speaker 3: called best of Show, Best in Show.
- 29:07Speaker 2: It was like a dog. They had Ai and Mellow right,
- 29:11Speaker 2: they he probably felt like they were the best team.
- 29:13Speaker 1: I mean, and they also were like the two flashiest dudes.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Man, Yeah, it was. It was. That was pretty cool.
- 29:19Speaker 1: When you first get into the league, who's the first
- 29:21Speaker 1: guy you defend? That really makes you realize like, ah fuck, I'm.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Here, Ah man, who was the first dude that I
- 29:31Speaker 3: have to guard that you were just like obviously Kobe,
- 29:34Speaker 3: Kobe was probably the first dude that I was like,
- 29:37Speaker 3: oh man, this is crazy.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Yeah, what about the hardest guy you had to defend?
- 29:41Speaker 3: That?
- 29:42Speaker 1: Or a guy who you just had just so many
- 29:44Speaker 1: battles with over the years where you were just like
- 29:46Speaker 1: you had to make sure you got up for him.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Like the toughest player for me to guard was probably Mellow.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Mellow was just extremely extremely physic cool and relentless physical.
- 30:02Speaker 2: So like he'll foil you too.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he just fouls you on the at the free
- 30:06Speaker 3: throw line, you know what I mean. He was pushing,
- 30:08Speaker 3: he's grabbing, he's elbow and he's doing all the physical
- 30:11Speaker 3: things like to just wear you down over the course
- 30:15Speaker 3: of a game. And he's he's going to shoot the
- 30:17Speaker 3: ball as many times as you know, he.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Feels like you got it, you got it. There's a
- 30:21Speaker 1: lot of jumping.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Twenty nine.
- 30:25Speaker 3: So it's it's like somebody that like locked in and
- 30:28Speaker 3: that that physical is it wears on you.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I can imagine when you guys end up on the
- 30:34Speaker 1: expendables Lakers and you're playing with a guy who you
- 30:38Speaker 1: guys beat in the finals, like Dwight. Dwight's on that team, right,
- 30:42Speaker 1: oh yeah yeah, and then you got Mellows on the team.
- 30:44Speaker 1: What is is the locker room?
- 30:46Speaker 2: Like?
- 30:46Speaker 1: Is I feel like that locker room, had everyone been
- 30:49Speaker 1: getting along, which I don't know if they were or not,
- 30:51Speaker 1: should have been like the coolest like old head NBA
- 30:55Speaker 1: shooting the ship combos of all time.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, I mean we've all been playing, we're all
- 31:00Speaker 2: in the former MVP.
- 31:02Speaker 3: We're all in the same like generation, so we've been
- 31:05Speaker 3: playing against each other since high school, all of us.
- 31:08Speaker 3: So it was like a real cool like locker room.
- 31:12Speaker 3: It's just we couldn't. Everybody was kind of older past
- 31:16Speaker 3: their primes. And sometimes when you have like a lot
- 31:18Speaker 3: of players like that, there are small parts about the
- 31:23Speaker 3: game that you know people or fans don't really know
- 31:26Speaker 3: about that the players just can't do or they won't
- 31:29Speaker 3: do because they never had to do it. Yeah, and
- 31:31Speaker 3: you need players that are chasing fifty to fifty balls
- 31:35Speaker 3: diving on the floor. You need players that gonna get
- 31:37Speaker 3: deflections and stuff like that make the game muddy sometimes
- 31:41Speaker 3: because those are the parts of the game.
- 31:45Speaker 1: That's crazy. All right, So let's take Kobe out of
- 31:48Speaker 1: the conversation. You played with Lebron, Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler,
- 31:53Speaker 1: James Harden, Devin Booker CP. Who's the craziest killer you
- 31:59Speaker 1: ever play with? Who just had.
- 32:00Speaker 2: That that dog in him?
- 32:02Speaker 1: That was just he If it's at the end of
- 32:03Speaker 1: the game, I feel good when he has the ball.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Kobe aside, So they're different. Chris's Floyd General Dame is
- 32:18Speaker 3: probably the one that's probably gonna like at the end
- 32:21Speaker 3: of the game if he got the rock, everybody is
- 32:24Speaker 3: going to be like, oh shit, like he's gonna do
- 32:26Speaker 3: something crazy, and he could. His range is just so far.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think about that shot against the the Thunder.
- 32:35Speaker 3: We send a lot of people on packing. Yeah, Dame
- 32:39Speaker 3: is probably the one that that out of the guys
- 32:43Speaker 3: that you named that has like he he'll he'll send
- 32:47Speaker 3: you home.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Shout out to Raffi Law Group our family. Yes, it's
- 32:52Speaker 1: been so dope to partner with, you know, such a
- 32:54Speaker 1: name and brand and somebody who actually am a customer
- 32:58Speaker 1: of shot to Raffi Law Group, man Arizona's premier personal
- 33:02Speaker 1: injury law firm. And I don't just put my name
- 33:05Speaker 1: on anybody when we do this stuff on the Bootleg
- 33:07Speaker 1: cap podcast and you see us partnering with brands, We're
- 33:10Speaker 1: very selective about who we connect with. And Raffi is
- 33:13Speaker 1: someone who's actually helped my family, helped my wife get
- 33:17Speaker 1: a settlement, all right, has helped over seventy thousand people
- 33:20Speaker 1: in Arizona. No matter what happens, Man, car accident, crash, injury,
- 33:26Speaker 1: you maybe get bit by a dog, I don't know,
- 33:28Speaker 1: whatever it is. Raffi Law Group makes the process less stressful.
- 33:32Speaker 1: They put money in your pocket. Yes, the name you
- 33:35Speaker 1: can trust. You already know Man Raffi Law Group. Save
- 33:38Speaker 1: the number just in case because hey, you get into
- 33:41Speaker 1: a car accident tomorrow, you gotta call Raffi six two
- 33:44Speaker 1: three three eight eight four three three three And want
- 33:47Speaker 1: to wish a big happy birthday to Raffi's just celebrated
- 33:50Speaker 1: his fortieth birthday. We had a good time in Vegas.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Fifty cent was there, pauly D was there, mad Rich
- 33:56Speaker 1: was there. E. C Rock was there. It was a movie,
- 33:59Speaker 1: all right, Secretary of State was there. We were just
- 34:01Speaker 1: hanging out, man show. Look shout out to Brandon Raffi.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Don't forget Raffi Law Group. The only calling you to
- 34:06Speaker 1: make if you're an az and you get into an
- 34:08Speaker 1: accident or you get into any sort of injury situation,
- 34:12Speaker 1: they'll take care you immediately call Raffi.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Baby. Let's get back to the podcast for.
- 34:16Speaker 1: You man to watch. Turks kind of turn into like
- 34:20Speaker 1: the Rappers playground. Yeah, Drake be out there. Everybody goes
- 34:24Speaker 1: to Turks, now, is it right? Do you? I mean
- 34:27Speaker 1: it's probably good for the local.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Economy, right, it's great for the time.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Great, Like it feels like it's grown a lot, Like
- 34:33Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on? Just like kind of Turks
- 34:36Speaker 1: turning into kind of like the new to Loom if
- 34:38Speaker 1: you everyone's going.
- 34:39Speaker 3: There, like, uh, well that's in this social media era, right.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Turks has always been a place that has been extremely I.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Feel like it was always a family place.
- 34:52Speaker 3: It's always been expensive. Yes, so it's never been a
- 34:55Speaker 3: place where you know, you go scrape up a couple
- 34:58Speaker 3: of a couple of you know, go have a great time.
- 35:03Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 35:03Speaker 3: It's it's it's very very like as far as that's concerned,
- 35:08Speaker 3: like the vacation or the tourism part, is has always
- 35:12Speaker 3: been a destination.
- 35:14Speaker 2: It's just that the.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Our hip hop culture didn't really know until you know,
- 35:22Speaker 3: people start rapping about it, like yeah, but it definitely
- 35:26Speaker 3: boosts the economy. Everybody want to want to go there
- 35:30Speaker 3: now and vacationary see how beautiful it is. But the
- 35:34Speaker 3: thing that is the most important to me is that
- 35:38Speaker 3: people understand about the people, right are there not just
- 35:41Speaker 3: the beauty.
- 35:42Speaker 1: Of not just the resorts clubs? And how is are
- 35:48Speaker 1: you like a solid golfer?
- 35:49Speaker 3: Is this Am I a solid golfer? I'm a getting
- 35:52Speaker 3: better golfer. I'm a competitive golfer, meaning like I can compete.
- 35:57Speaker 1: If you had to, Like, like, is there an NBA
- 35:59Speaker 1: play player that just brings the a game on the
- 36:03Speaker 1: course that you're like this guy's sick, Like he's too good?
- 36:07Speaker 3: Like so Jr. Is really good? Yeah, I've seen that
- 36:11Speaker 3: Boydrel is real good. Chris is real good from I've
- 36:16Speaker 3: never got to be on a course with or seen
- 36:19Speaker 3: him play, but I hear Steph is really good.
- 36:22Speaker 1: I heard it's like Lebron's like dialed in on golf.
- 36:25Speaker 1: At of it, it seemed like, yep, can you I
- 36:28Speaker 1: feel like you played with James? I think James is
- 36:32Speaker 1: you know, however, way you cut at the top five
- 36:34Speaker 1: shooting guard of all time. Yeah, probably higher. But he
- 36:39Speaker 1: has this reputation of not being able to get over
- 36:43Speaker 1: the umph or disappearing in the.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Big games or whatever.
- 36:46Speaker 1: What do you think is the biggest misconception about James
- 36:49Speaker 1: Harden as somebody who was in those wars with him
- 36:52Speaker 1: and was a part of some of those teams that
- 36:54Speaker 1: maybe kind of fell short.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I think that the probably the misconception. Again, I don't
- 37:01Speaker 3: I don't really know what people think. I can only assume.
- 37:06Speaker 3: So my assumption would be that he's he doesn't care
- 37:09Speaker 3: as much as he does, right, That would be something
- 37:13Speaker 3: that I probably would think that people wouldn't wouldn't think
- 37:17Speaker 3: he did.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, because he works his ass off.
- 37:20Speaker 3: He works hard, you know, he he works on this
- 37:25Speaker 3: game all the time.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I mean he I mean, how do you feel about
- 37:28Speaker 1: how he plays? He did change the game. They had
- 37:31Speaker 1: to change rules.
- 37:32Speaker 3: For him, for sure. He definitely changed the game the
- 37:36Speaker 3: way it's viewed. The way it's played. He gave different
- 37:41Speaker 3: a different style, which gave a whole bunch of other
- 37:44Speaker 3: people opportunity to create what they have. I feel like,
- 37:47Speaker 3: if we don't get James, you don't get Luca, you
- 37:50Speaker 3: know what I mean. So it's like you gotta kind
- 37:53Speaker 3: of like like applaud pioneers when they're doing things that
- 37:57Speaker 3: they're doing.
- 37:58Speaker 1: That step back bro the double steps when you had
- 38:01Speaker 1: to defend that in practice, did you ever tell me traveled.
- 38:06Speaker 2: In practice? I was liking it.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I was like, his up, that's crazy, all right? So listen,
- 38:13Speaker 1: you have the event coming up next well, by the
- 38:15Speaker 1: time this drops, it'll be this coming week. Do you
- 38:19Speaker 1: have anything else? Because obviously, man, I want to ask
- 38:23Speaker 1: you because you have very successful as a father. I
- 38:27Speaker 1: have a kid who's doing AAU he's twelve. What is
- 38:30Speaker 1: the key to kind of dialing in that world and
- 38:33Speaker 1: being a basketball dad at a high level?
- 38:37Speaker 3: So I got another son who just finished up eighth
- 38:40Speaker 3: grade going into high.
- 38:41Speaker 1: School and he's playing.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Yeah, he's pretty good too.
- 38:46Speaker 3: The thing that I believe helps kids, and from my
- 38:52Speaker 3: perspective and only mine, is when they listen, when they
- 38:57Speaker 3: are able to take instructive criticism positively and they understand
- 39:03Speaker 3: what it means. And when you just have kids that
- 39:07Speaker 3: just love to love to work.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Is it?
- 39:11Speaker 2: Is it?
- 39:11Speaker 1: I feel like the three pointer has kind of like
- 39:17Speaker 1: some You'll see a lot of these kids, bro and
- 39:19Speaker 1: they stick their tray young or mellow, and they'll they'll
- 39:22Speaker 1: be just launching like those.
- 39:24Speaker 3: Are fans of the game instead of people that actually
- 39:29Speaker 3: know the game. So if if if you have kids
- 39:32Speaker 3: that's just out here like just shooting truck, those are
- 39:36Speaker 3: people that are being taught by fans. I think that
- 39:38Speaker 3: makes my personal opinion, that makes sense instead of people
- 39:41Speaker 3: that's teaching the thing that you should be teaching the
- 39:44Speaker 3: kids from. Again, just my humble opinion is how to communicate.
- 39:51Speaker 2: On the court.
- 39:52Speaker 3: On the court, rebounding right, and just being able just
- 39:57Speaker 3: to play hard every single time you're.
- 39:59Speaker 2: On the court, both sides of the ball, on both sides.
- 40:02Speaker 1: Learn how to affect the game and more ways, those.
- 40:03Speaker 3: Are the most important things to the game to me.
- 40:06Speaker 3: I mean, scoring is obviously important, of course, but like.
- 40:09Speaker 1: You want to, you want to, you want your coach,
- 40:11Speaker 1: you feel good about you being out there, if your shots,
- 40:14Speaker 1: if you're doing everything else.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Right, if you're not gonna I if because again, like
- 40:18Speaker 3: if you're shooting from far out, your percentages go down.
- 40:22Speaker 3: So the closer you get to the basket, the higher
- 40:24Speaker 3: your percentage is. Right, So running for layups is important,
- 40:28Speaker 3: but that takes effort for sure, Right, Getting deflections or
- 40:32Speaker 3: getting stills on defense, those are fast breakpoints, Yep, those
- 40:36Speaker 3: are important to the to winning. So if you're not
- 40:39Speaker 3: really being taught those things. Right, and we fall in
- 40:42Speaker 3: love with watching Trey or Steph who is unbelievable, they
- 40:49Speaker 3: unbelievable shooters, you're gonna like, you know, you're missing all
- 40:52Speaker 3: the stuff that got him to the point that he
- 40:55Speaker 3: got to because Steph leads the league and most threes made, right,
- 41:00Speaker 3: but he also scores a lot of layups, which nobody
- 41:03Speaker 3: pays attention to.
- 41:04Speaker 2: This is a fellon.
- 41:06Speaker 1: You played against a lot of the guys in the
- 41:08Speaker 1: league right now. Who do you think is the most
- 41:09Speaker 1: underrated player in the NBA right now?
- 41:11Speaker 2: Man, Damn, I gotta think about that.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Just don't get enough flowers, or maybe don't don't get
- 41:15Speaker 1: mentioned as much.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Who plays in the league right now that doesn't get
- 41:23Speaker 3: enough attention? Uh, well, I'm gonna go with somebody that
- 41:28Speaker 3: plays like me McDaniels.
- 41:31Speaker 1: For McDaniels, Yeah.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I love him. I love his game.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I thought if Lebron wanted to a ring that was
- 41:39Speaker 1: the most Minnesota. I just thought, because he's got them,
- 41:41Speaker 1: he's got him and go bear to you got that
- 41:44Speaker 1: back line on defense man?
- 41:46Speaker 2: Yeah, there they are scary.
- 41:49Speaker 3: And now that they have a point guard, like a really,
- 41:53Speaker 3: really really good point guard, I think that it allows.
- 41:59Speaker 1: It's an open everything for Anthony Edwards.
- 42:01Speaker 3: It's kind of like when CP got to Houston, when
- 42:04Speaker 3: he got the Phoenix.
- 42:05Speaker 2: I mean that's what I mean. When he got the Phoenix.
- 42:07Speaker 2: You know, now we're to play point guard.
- 42:10Speaker 3: It'll allow for him to to be more of a
- 42:14Speaker 3: score because he's you can't really stop him getting to
- 42:17Speaker 3: the can.
- 42:18Speaker 1: Do you feel like the Celtics fucked up trading Jalen Brown?
- 42:22Speaker 2: Do I feel like the Celtics fucked up trading Jalen Brown.
- 42:26Speaker 1: One of the more unexpected wild exchanges of players in
- 42:30Speaker 1: a while. I think since we had the Luca trade, you.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Know, I feel like every organization have the right to
- 42:36Speaker 3: do what they want to do. You just have to
- 42:39Speaker 3: give like better reasons for that, because when you're dealing
- 42:42Speaker 3: with like like fan base and like public perception. What
- 42:47Speaker 3: is the reason you trade him for because he has
- 42:51Speaker 3: an opinion or whatever the case may be, for what
- 42:53Speaker 3: the media says, like, who.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Cares someone's given you one hundred thousand dollars. You have
- 42:59Speaker 1: to be at it. Who's coming out of the east,
- 43:01Speaker 1: who's coming out.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Of the west. Somebody give me one hundred thousand.
- 43:05Speaker 1: No, you can't keep it. You have to bet it.
- 43:07Speaker 2: You gotta bet it. So just like burnt money, right, yes.
- 43:11Speaker 1: Listen, you gott who's coming out the east? Who's coming
- 43:14Speaker 1: out the west this year? As the cards have fallen
- 43:17Speaker 1: so far?
- 43:18Speaker 2: Okay, let me see tell me what the cars look like.
- 43:22Speaker 1: I mean, right now we know obviously the thunder of
- 43:25Speaker 1: the thunder, the spurs of the spurs. Luca's got the
- 43:30Speaker 1: Great Whites, Celtics looking like the Celtics in the eighties,
- 43:35Speaker 1: and l.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Minister Minnesota probably like third right now to me, Oklahoma
- 43:42Speaker 3: and San Antonio.
- 43:44Speaker 2: That's that's the hierarchy of the West, and.
- 43:48Speaker 3: Philly is lig New York is still going to be
- 43:52Speaker 3: that and Miami is you mean when you got Bam
- 43:58Speaker 3: and then you got fucking the Greek freak. Yeah, it's
- 44:02Speaker 3: hard to like, it's hard to like overlook it.
- 44:05Speaker 1: It's gonna be a hard the pain is gonna be
- 44:08Speaker 1: hard to score.
- 44:09Speaker 2: It will be probably it will be hard to score.
- 44:12Speaker 3: But I feel like even on offense too, because you
- 44:15Speaker 3: know Bam is starting.
- 44:17Speaker 2: To you know, expand his range here.
- 44:21Speaker 3: And fucking Gianness is all downhill for real, Like he
- 44:25Speaker 3: stays at the free throw line. So but again, Miami's
- 44:29Speaker 3: coaching staff and their system, they're so good at what
- 44:33Speaker 3: they do.
- 44:34Speaker 1: You always hear everyone says Spo is like when it
- 44:37Speaker 1: comes to this ship, for real, he might be the
- 44:39Speaker 1: best coach like of the last you know, however many
- 44:41Speaker 1: years you played with him for a season.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Right, Their whole, their whole organization from top to bottom,
- 44:47Speaker 3: is like that. So like everybody is on the same page.
- 44:52Speaker 3: It's nobody off off. Like if you step out of that,
- 44:57Speaker 3: you are the sore thumb and you stick out and
- 45:00Speaker 3: you probably won't last.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Fall in line with the heat coaching.
- 45:03Speaker 3: It's not even the falling line, it's that you want
- 45:05Speaker 3: to be a part of that line because it's so
- 45:07Speaker 3: it's beautiful. You know, it's a great thing if you
- 45:09Speaker 3: if you're disciplined and you love the game, and you
- 45:11Speaker 3: love with what you know they're about.
- 45:14Speaker 2: It works.
- 45:15Speaker 1: And they're so good at drafting from like fifteen to
- 45:18Speaker 1: like thirty one. That's the only time they can pick players.
- 45:22Speaker 2: That's how good they their scouts the end. Yeah, that's
- 45:25Speaker 2: how good they are.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Well listen, Trevor, I appreciate you pulling up man. Make
- 45:29Speaker 1: sure you guys, you is there is there a way
- 45:31Speaker 1: to support this event without necessarily pulling up.
- 45:35Speaker 3: Yeah for sure, just going to my page whatever and
- 45:38Speaker 3: going to buy you and look. But I you know
- 45:41Speaker 3: again the people. I got to thank some people, yeah know,
- 45:45Speaker 3: Loui Beach House Windward in South Bank for contributed in
- 45:53Speaker 3: helping us put this event on and and supporting us
- 45:56Speaker 3: the way that they have been. Without them, you know,
- 45:58Speaker 3: we wouldn't be able to to be here talking about this.
- 46:01Speaker 1: You got Booker pulling up the golf but yeah, the
- 46:04Speaker 1: books coming, Yeah, pulling up a secp's coming. You gotta
- 46:09Speaker 1: tell book Man, tell them to trade Jalen Green so
- 46:11Speaker 1: we can fucking make him a shooting guard again. For
- 46:13Speaker 1: fuck's sake, we need a point guard. For love of Christ.
- 46:18Speaker 1: What's what's the owner's name? This guy's playing, he's playing
- 46:21Speaker 1: NBA two K Matt Matt Ishbia.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Oh't know. I'm just I'm sorry.
- 46:29Speaker 1: I'm an NBA fanos breaking into the interview here. But listen, man,
- 46:32Speaker 1: I appreciate you pulling up. Go support Trevor. You're a legend.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Do a podcast, man.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Do a podcast.
- 46:39Speaker 1: You should do a podcast. You gotta do a podcast
- 46:41Speaker 1: with like another og, like from the Lakers, maybe that
- 46:47Speaker 1: Laker team.
- 46:48Speaker 3: If I do a podcast, it's gonna be with Banger
- 46:51Speaker 3: DJ Banger.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Okay, I mean, why not. That's my guy. There it is.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I mean, I mean or you and Chris, I mean
- 46:58Speaker 1: Chris do a podcast. He's coaching.
- 47:00Speaker 3: Yeah, Chris has done so much for the game, and
- 47:04Speaker 3: he's one of those guys who always looking the way
- 47:06Speaker 3: to share information.
- 47:08Speaker 1: So there it is. Man, Well, listen, I appreciate you
- 47:10Speaker 1: pulling up Trevor. Reason my gosh, love Yes, sir, fire.
