- 0:33Don Armstrong: He is nowhere to be found.
- 0:34Don Armstrong: He's in some sort of a class.
- 0:36Don Armstrong: I can only it it is it a Lamaz class?
- 0:39Jeff Dziekan: I don't know.
- 0:40Jeff Dziekan: I don't know what I don't know.
- 0:46Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, no.
- 0:47Jeff Dziekan: No.
- 0:47Jeff Dziekan: No, no, no.
- 0:48Don Armstrong: Listen, that boy would not get out of bed for uh start of an 8.30 class in the morning on a Saturday.
- 0:54Don Armstrong: No.
- 0:55Don Armstrong: Maybe it's a drive maybe he got caught driving too fast or something and he had to go take away.
- 1:01Don Armstrong: A defensive driving class.
- 1:02Don Armstrong: Remember those?
- 1:03Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 1:04Don Armstrong: Do they still have those?
- 1:05Don Armstrong: I don't think they're not.
- 1:06Mike Marrs: Oh yeah.
- 1:06Mike Marrs: I had a granddaughter just finished one.
- 1:09Don Armstrong: Really?
- 1:10Mike Marrs: Yes.
- 1:13Don Armstrong: Because it was mandated or what?
- 1:15Mike Marrs: Well, it was that or pay a bigger fine.
- 1:18Don Armstrong: Ah.
- 1:18Don Armstrong: So it was a speeding ticket.
- 1:20Mike Marrs: Uh close enough accident, little accident.
- 1:24Jeff Dziekan: Did it used to be if you didn't pay the fine, they'd they make you go in the army?
- 1:27Jeff Dziekan: I don't know about that.
- 1:29Jeff Dziekan: The army.
- 1:31Jeff Dziekan: Really?
- 1:32Jeff Dziekan: I'm just messing with Mike.
- 1:33Jeff Dziekan: He's always got a granddaughter story of accident, part failed ticket.
- 1:39Jeff Dziekan: They're busy.
- 1:39Don Armstrong: He's gonna have to go live with somebody else now.
- 1:42Don Armstrong: Got a full life out there.
- 1:43Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:43Don Armstrong: We don't know what's going on over there.
- 1:46Don Armstrong: All right.
- 1:46Don Armstrong: Um, so let's talk to Richard Jones.
- 1:50Don Armstrong: Uh, Richard is uh the head honcho at the Mustang Club of Houston.
- 1:54Don Armstrong: Richard, good morning.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: Good morning.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: How y'all doing?
- 1:58Don Armstrong: Well, we're doing good.
- 1:59Don Armstrong: How are you doing?
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: I'm doing pretty good.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: It's kind of a gloomy day, but I'm doing good.
- 2:04Don Armstrong: I know.
- 2:05Don Armstrong: Well, uh, that that's quite a necklace you're showing us there.
- 2:07Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 2:08Mike Marrs: Uh can you kind of tilt your camera up?
- 2:10Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 2:11Don Armstrong: Yeah, there you go.
- 2:12Don Armstrong: There you are.
- 2:13Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 2:14Don Armstrong: So it's it's good to talk to you.
- 2:15Don Armstrong: Mustang Club of Houston.
- 2:18Don Armstrong: How many members you got?
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: About 80.
- 2:24Don Armstrong: 80 members.
- 2:25Don Armstrong: 80 members.
- 2:27Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 2:28Don Armstrong: 80 members.
- 2:29Don Armstrong: So uh I assume that you probably have about, I don't know, 60 cars.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: About that.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, about 60, 65 car, yes, sir.
- 2:39Don Armstrong: Because usually, you know, it's a husband and wife thing, and so you gotta you gotta count both of those as clubs.
- 2:44Don Armstrong: Club members, yeah, whatever the case may be.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 2:47Don Armstrong: So uh Mustang Club of Houston's been around a while.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: It's been around 33 years.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: We celebrate our 30th anniversary three years ago.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Uh so now it's far after that though, we're 33 years old.
- 3:02Don Armstrong: 33 years old, just a youngster.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: Yes, sir.
- 3:05Don Armstrong: Uh so so, Richard, please please tell me that when you have meetings, that you don't have somebody read the minutes of the last meeting.
- 3:12Don Armstrong: Please tell me that.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: We don't have anybody to read the minutes.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: We post we post our minutes online, and people can go and look at the minutes online, and then at the meeting we can ask to look at the minutes, and we vote on approval of the minutes from the past meeting.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: No, no.
- 3:32Don Armstrong: Because I remember a day it's back in the day when I was a member of a of a Corvette club, and we had a once-a-month meeting, and uh, you know, it filled up a ballroom of a hotel somewhere, somebody paid some money for that.
- 3:47Don Armstrong: And one of the things that had to be had to be done is read the minutes of the meeting from last time.
- 3:54Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 3:54Don Armstrong: And I was like, okay, I'm going to go and find something to do for the next 10 minutes while the meetings from the last meeting are red.
- 4:02Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 4:03unknown: Right.
- 4:04Don Armstrong: I just wanted to make sure that I uh yeah.
- 4:06Don Armstrong: I just wanted to make sure that we're on the same page and we both hate minutes being read at the meeting.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, we're back in Dred Minton Church.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: We don't do that.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Anyone know.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: Oh boy.
- 4:18Don Armstrong: Well, here's what happened last time.
- 4:20Don Armstrong: We don't care what happened last time.
- 4:22Don Armstrong: So, Richard, how long have you been president of this club?
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: This is my fifth year.
- 4:28Jeff Dziekan: Fifth year.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: Fifth year.
- 4:30Don Armstrong: Are you an incumb you're an incumbent?
- 4:34Don Armstrong: That's because that's that that's either because that's either because you're so popular they keep or nobody else wants to have your job.
- 4:43Don Armstrong: Let Richard do it.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's that ladder.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: Nobody wants to step up.
- 4:50Don Armstrong: Nobody else wants to do it.
- 4:53Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 4:53Don Armstrong: Well, I don't know.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: And he really don't.
- 4:56Don Armstrong: No, I was gonna say.
- 4:57Don Armstrong: I mean, it's fun.
- 4:58Don Armstrong: Hey, look, you're on the In Wheel Time Show.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:00Don Armstrong: So um y'all are a very active club.
- 5:04Mike Marrs: You've almost always got something going on.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: We do.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Uh yes, we had we on a cru we are on a cruise right now.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: We're driving down the highway, well, far to the side of the road, but we're on the way to Blessing, Texas, to the Blessing Hotel for lunch.
- 5:21Don Armstrong: Oh, nice.
- 5:22Don Armstrong: How far is Blessing from where y'all started?
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Uh about maybe an hour.
- 5:30Don Armstrong: Okay, 50, 60 miles, something like that.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And then we're going to start going the backway.
- 5:41Don Armstrong: Nice.
- 5:42Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 5:42SPEAKER_02: Well, that sounds like a fun deal.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:44Don Armstrong: Uh uh has it been raining on you at all?
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: Not at all.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: Not at all.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: We thought it was, but it hadn't been it hadn't rain.
- 5:53Don Armstrong: Because you know, that car wash that we spent hours on this morning before the actual cruise would be ruined.
- 6:01Don Armstrong: But and I've been on many of those too, I will tell you that.
- 6:04Don Armstrong: It's so disappointing for about 30 seconds, and then you go, ah, whatever, and just get wash it again.
- 6:10Jeff Dziekan: So, Richie, what do you what are you driving right now?
- 6:14Jeff Dziekan: What are you sitting in?
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: I am sitting in a two 2020 Eco Boost Mustang, a 2.3 liter Eco Boost Mustang.
- 6:24Don Armstrong: And it's got um almost 300 horsepower.
- 6:28SPEAKER_02: It has about 310 from the factory, but I have a little bit more because I add the coal into KN coal air and tape.
- 6:35SPEAKER_02: I had an MBRP uh cat back, and so it boosted the horsepower like by 335 to 340.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: So this is a bit more loose than it is when I bought it.
- 6:46Don Armstrong: Yeah, grocery.
- 6:47Don Armstrong: You know, and everybody says, Oh, I a four-cylinder Mustang.
- 6:50Don Armstrong: I'm not gonna do that.
- 6:51Don Armstrong: Why?
- 6:52Don Armstrong: Because it gets good gas mileage and it's got horsepower.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: It gets great gas mileage.
- 7:00Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:01Don Armstrong: Now, is it an automatic or is it a standard?
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: It's an automatic.
- 7:09Don Armstrong: Well, thank you for that.
- 7:10Don Armstrong: Yes, I know.
- 7:11Don Armstrong: Uh I've I've got uh an old Corvette that is a standard transmission, and uh longing for the day that I can push my foot on the accelerator and don't have to shift gears again.
- 7:24Don Armstrong: But uh there is that.
- 7:26Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 7:27Don Armstrong: So uh how many cars are on this cruise on this Saturday morning with you?
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: About seven or eight cars because when you have seven cars going on.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: We're gonna have like about maybe about twenty twenty five people you know back.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: It's still fun though.
- 7:49Don Armstrong: Yes, of course.
- 7:51Don Armstrong: Yeah, absolutely.
- 7:52Don Armstrong: Absolutely.
- 7:56Don Armstrong: That's exactly right.
- 7:57Don Armstrong: So are you about 20 minutes away?
- 8:00Don Armstrong: 20 minutes away from your destination?
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: We're we're about 10.
- 8:06Don Armstrong: Oh, 10.
- 8:07Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 8:09Don Armstrong: So you're almost yeah, almost there.
- 8:12Don Armstrong: So do you guys do this like once a month or something?
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Almost there.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: We we do different things on different months.
- 8:20SPEAKER_02: Um like next one we have a thing called we're gonna do a housing social ring, like the and where we meet and have ice cream and go into is called Heidi Ice Cream in Katie and people for it at that uh establishment or handicapped disabled people, and I think that's a great cause.
- 8:46Mike Marrs: Yeah, very nice.
- 8:47Mike Marrs: Very nice.
- 8:48Mike Marrs: You get some ice cream and you support them.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: Exact exactly right.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: And our big thing is coming up in uh in a big thing coming up in August where we're gonna take a cruise, we'll hopefully take a cruise to Atlanta because the Mustang Club of America is so that's a parent company of all the charter clubs out here in the country.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: And it's turning.
- 9:16Don Armstrong: How fun.
- 9:17Don Armstrong: And I'll bet you that they're expecting thousands of Mustangs for that.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: They are, they are expecting a lot.
- 9:27SPEAKER_02: Just like a couple weeks ago, we had a thing in Gaussian, and we had about maybe maybe close to 4,000 Mustangs in Gaussian about a month ago.
- 9:39Don Armstrong: Yes, I remember uh us talking about that.
- 9:42Don Armstrong: Uh, I don't know why we didn't have somebody on the air with us.
- 9:45Don Armstrong: I think Mars tried, but they everybody went, well, wait a minute.
- 9:48Don Armstrong: Where where are you gonna go to this event?
- 9:50Don Armstrong: What are you gonna be bogged down by some sort of moron on the on the radio talking to us about this?
- 9:56Don Armstrong: Isn't that right, Mars?
- 9:57Mike Marrs: Yes, sir.
- 10:01Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah, he's agreeing.
- 10:05Don Armstrong: Yeah, there's that.
- 10:07Don Armstrong: Well, uh, all right.
- 10:09Don Armstrong: Um do you have any classic Mustangs in the club?
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: Small amount of class.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: We had a lot more claims for Nanic, about maybe one or two.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: One of our guys, he has like a 72 month.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: He just repurchased about two years ago.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: And that's about it, right?
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: About it right now.
- 10:34Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:34Don Armstrong: So most of the Mustangs are.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Yes, sir, more late.
- 10:42Mike Marrs: So y'all are when you do your activities, like you say, you're gonna cruise to Atlanta, you're going to Blessing today, you do a lot of driving, and I would think probably some of the older 64, 56s Mustangs, they probably don't drive quite so well, maybe.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: That's true, it's the same.
- 11:02SPEAKER_02: Don't have like that.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: It's kind of hard because we do a lot of drive.
- 11:09SPEAKER_02: As a matter of fact, my Mustang right now, I'm looking at the dial, has 103,577 miles on it.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: And what year is it?
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: We drive a lot.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: We drive a lot.
- 11:22Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 11:23Don Armstrong: Yeah, what and you you said it's uh what a 2,000.
- 11:28Don Armstrong: A 2020.
- 11:30Don Armstrong: 2020.
- 11:31Mike Marrs: Yes, sir.
- 11:32Mike Marrs: Grab our lines.
- 11:33Mike Marrs: So you're averaging 20 plus thousand miles a year.
- 11:37Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:38Jeff Dziekan: They they drive a lot.
- 11:40Jeff Dziekan: The national insurance average is 17,000 in Houston, so but he's not in Houston.
- 11:43Jeff Dziekan: Is that what it is?
- 11:44Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 11:44Jeff Dziekan: 17?
- 11:45Jeff Dziekan: It's around 17,000, the national average.
- 11:48unknown: Yeah.
- 11:48Don Armstrong: Well, uh it's great to talk to you.
- 11:51Don Armstrong: How do we get a hold of you?
- 11:53Don Armstrong: And not your phone number now.
- 11:55Don Armstrong: You like to do it.
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: You can get a hold of MCO.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: We also have Facebook.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: We also have Facebook.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 12:05Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 12:06Don Armstrong: All right.
- 12:07Don Armstrong: Well, uh, we're gonna send we're gonna we're gonna we're gonna send some Mustang people over to you and say hello.
- 12:12Mike Marrs: You got a coach with you?
- 12:14Mike Marrs: Sounds good.
- 12:15Mike Marrs: You got a co-pilot?
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, does my wa his mouse on the side right here?
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: She is she's waving.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: She's waving.
- 12:23Jeff Dziekan: What kind of Mustang does she drive?
- 12:26Jeff Dziekan: The one that they're in.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: Oh she drives this.
- 12:30Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 12:34Don Armstrong: Driving the edge.
- 12:36Don Armstrong: All right.
- 12:37Don Armstrong: Well, listen, man, thank you so much for taking the time talking to us today.
- 12:41Don Armstrong: Get back on the road and be safe getting on the road now, and uh stay in touch with us.
- 12:45Don Armstrong: We look forward to talking to you again soon.
- 12:48Jeff Dziekan: Thank you, sir.
- 12:50Jeff Dziekan: Try the soup and sandwich.
- 12:51Jeff Dziekan: Don't forget to tip the wiggles.
- 12:52Don Armstrong: Yeah, stupid sandwich and tip the wiggle.
- 12:54Don Armstrong: Oh, I will.
- 12:55Don Armstrong: Hey, uh coming up, Jeff is gonna have the cruise in okay, Jeff's gonna have the cruise in and events calendars, and uh, I'll have the stories making automotive news headlines.
- 13:04Don Armstrong: We're also going to tap into Mr.
- 13:05Don Armstrong: Mars driving destinations.
- 13:08Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 13:08Don Armstrong: So we'll do that after this next break.
- 13:10Don Armstrong: Shall we do that, Mr.
- 13:10Don Armstrong: Mars?
- 13:11Don Armstrong: Perfect.
- 13:11Don Armstrong: Sure.
- 13:12Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 13:12Don Armstrong: Well, we're gonna take a break and we'll be right back.

- 15:00Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 15:00Don Armstrong: Mars, you know what else we forgot?
- 15:02Don Armstrong: Forgot auto history, so we're gonna play that after uh we have Jeff's cruise in.
- 15:08Don Armstrong: But first, though, let's do driving destinations.
- 15:10Don Armstrong: I know that uh we teased that, so let's let's let's do that if you don't mind.
- 15:14Mike Marrs: Where is that, Michael?
- 15:16Mike Marrs: So it's it's been a long time since I was over in Houston running around like on the previous life, but there's a lot of things to do over there.
- 15:22Mike Marrs: We talked about fun and play.
- 15:24Mike Marrs: Then we're gonna talk about date night, trying to find something that's a little bit different for date night.
- 15:29Don Armstrong: Without a gun.
- 15:30Mike Marrs: Without a gun, hopefully.
- 15:32Mike Marrs: If not, go to be sure you go to a place that gives you one when you go in.
- 15:35Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 15:36Mike Marrs: So we're gonna start with Captain Foxheart's Bad News and Bar Spirit Lounge.
- 15:41Mike Marrs: Now, if you're not sure where it's at, because you're gonna walk right past it.
- 15:44Mike Marrs: It it's very speakeasy-ish looking.
- 15:48Mike Marrs: Uh, it's tucked away in an upstairs area in downtown Houston.
- 15:52Mike Marrs: It's kind of a moody cocktail spot, low lighting, vintage lounge vibes, and it's got a very nice hidden skyline view of the city from the patio area.
- 16:01Mike Marrs: The drinks are serious without getting pretentious.
- 16:04Mike Marrs: It's kind of a place where you might hang around a little bit longer than you might want to.
- 16:08Mike Marrs: Now, if you're looking for something a little different from that, you might go to uh something with a little weirdness.
- 16:14Mike Marrs: Go to Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
- 16:16Mike Marrs: Now, this is gonna have your neon lights, you're gonna have sci-fi decor, you're gonna have creative cocktails, and some pretty good pizza in this place.
- 16:25Mike Marrs: So it's kind of like a restaurant, but it's really not.
- 16:28Mike Marrs: It's more relaxed, quirky, and it's great for people that just want to go someplace, have a few laughs, and kind of sit through some uh unexpected experiences and just something to be different.
- 16:39Mike Marrs: Then from there, if you want to go something back to more quiet and more intimate, you check out Le Cref.
- 16:46Mike Marrs: This historic little wine bar, and it is historic because the building was built in 1847.
- 16:51Mike Marrs: The Kennedy Bakery is what used to be there, and the Kennedys actually owned this building for five generations before it was sold, and it's considered the most haunted bar in Houston.
- 17:03Mike Marrs: So you're gonna have lots of candlelight, old brick walls, you're gonna have handwritten tabs, not the computer touch screens.
- 17:10Mike Marrs: So there's no rush here.
- 17:11Mike Marrs: If you just want to go someplace that's nice and slow and have a real conversation, kind of feel a little bit different from the normal Houston nightlife that I'm aware of.
- 17:20Don Armstrong: Get yourself a Jin Fizz.
- 17:24Don Armstrong: La Craft La Craft.
- 17:27Mike Marrs: So from there, if you want to stay casual but get outdoors a little bit more, you might go to the Axlrad Beer Garden.
- 17:34Mike Marrs: Now, this is uh a place that you're gonna find.
- 17:38Mike Marrs: It's actually in the old Axlrod grocery that was built in the 1920s.
- 17:43Mike Marrs: So hence you get the name of the beer garden.
- 17:45Mike Marrs: You're gonna have uh it's gonna be out underneath the trees, you got live music, you got food trucks nearby.
- 17:50Mike Marrs: So it's kind of a laid-back crowd with some picnic tables and just kind of place you can go settle in and hang around for a place just to kind of have a nice time in the evening.
- 18:01Jeff Dziekan: Looks like you could probably take your dog with you to that type of event there.
- 18:04Mike Marrs: Oh, you might could.
- 18:06Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 18:07Mike Marrs: Then uh the other one, the last one I wanted to bring up was a place called the Little Dipper Bar.
- 18:13Mike Marrs: Now, this is small, it's retro, kind of low-key.
- 18:17Mike Marrs: It's got that old Houston neighborhood bar energy with the vintage decor and a little relaxed atmosphere that kind of makes it easy to kind of go in and just settle down, have some light conversation, and just have a relaxed evening if you're looking for something like that.
- 18:32Jeff Dziekan: We got pinballs too.
- 18:34Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 18:34Mike Marrs: Yeah, a lot of these places are downtown.
- 18:36Mike Marrs: This one's downtown in the 300-block of Main Street.
- 18:39Mike Marrs: So, so there's a lot of places you can go for date nights.
- 18:42Mike Marrs: It's not necessarily about spending a bottom money and going out to a big fancy place.
- 18:46Mike Marrs: Just kind of take a little drive and find something different and see where things go.
- 18:51unknown: Perfect.
- 18:51Don Armstrong: Very nice.
- 18:52Don Armstrong: I like that.
- 18:53Don Armstrong: Well, uh in that same vein, Jeffrey has the cruise in and events calendar.
- 19:00Jeff Dziekan: All righty.
- 19:01Jeff Dziekan: We've got the Taylor swap meet.
- 19:03Jeff Dziekan: These are all going on at the end.
- 19:04Don Armstrong: Well, I for you to say Taylor Swift, but Taylor Switzerland.
- 19:08Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 19:08Jeff Dziekan: Uh Taylor's the 15th, which is next weekend from 9 a.m.
- 19:12Jeff Dziekan: to 5 p.m.
- 19:13Jeff Dziekan: It's at the Murphy Park Pavilion in Taylor, Texas at 1600 Veterans Drive.
- 19:17Jeff Dziekan: It's just a swap meet and good old boys getting together, chit-chatting, and swapping stories and swapping parts.
- 19:23Jeff Dziekan: Uh May Cruise In car show and swap meet at the Faux Reel Trade Days.
- 19:27Jeff Dziekan: Faux Real.
- 19:28Jeff Dziekan: Faux Reel.
- 19:28Jeff Dziekan: Faux Real.
- 19:29Jeff Dziekan: This is in Liberty, Texas at 180 Independent Street.
- 19:32Jeff Dziekan: This goes from 9 a.m.
- 19:33Jeff Dziekan: to 5 p.m.
- 19:34Jeff Dziekan: It's on May 16th.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Wait a minute.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: Wait, let me see the faux faux faux reel.
- 19:38SPEAKER_03: Faux reel.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: Oh, F-A-U-X.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Real.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Faux reel.
- 19:41Jeff Dziekan: Faux reel.
- 19:42Mike Marrs: Pibodeau faux reel.
- 19:44Mike Marrs: Uh-huh.
- 19:44Jeff Dziekan: Aye.
- 19:45Jeff Dziekan: The May Cruising Car Show SWAT meet is scheduled there at that event.
- 19:49Jeff Dziekan: Uh first Saturday of every month.
- 19:51Jeff Dziekan: It goes from 9 to 5.
- 19:53Jeff Dziekan: Attendees will find food trucks, live music, coffee, treats, and a variety of the other things.
- 19:59Jeff Dziekan: No, it's it's this one is this.
- 20:01Jeff Dziekan: It's Saturday of each month.
- 20:03Jeff Dziekan: Saturday of each month.
- 20:04Jeff Dziekan: I see.
- 20:05Jeff Dziekan: But this one is the 16th.
- 20:07Jeff Dziekan: Crossroad Cruisers Car Show.
- 20:09Jeff Dziekan: It's at Riverside Park Special Event Center in Victoria, Texas.
- 20:12Jeff Dziekan: We all know where that's at, 407 Memorial.
- 20:16Jeff Dziekan: Registration begins at 8, judging's at 11.
- 20:18Jeff Dziekan: So, you know, we don't we don't judge around here.
- 20:21Jeff Dziekan: Uh awards would be presented.
- 20:23Jeff Dziekan: We judge every clock.
- 20:25Jeff Dziekan: Top 30 awards from the five best awards.
- 20:28Jeff Dziekan: So there you go.
- 20:29Jeff Dziekan: Then you got the Southern Pontiac Firebirds on the border.
- 20:32Jeff Dziekan: This is in Alamo, Texas, which is really down by the border, down in the McAllen Laredo area.
- 20:38Jeff Dziekan: Uh if you want to travel down there, that's great.
- 20:40Jeff Dziekan: It's May 17th from noon to 5 at the Rail Yard 83.
- 20:43Jeff Dziekan: It's 106 North 9th Street.
- 20:46Jeff Dziekan: Pontiac Firebirds, Trans Dams, they all gather near the border.
- 20:49Jeff Dziekan: Uh takes place from noon to 5 at the Rail Yard.
- 20:52Jeff Dziekan: So be there.
- 20:53Jeff Dziekan: Street Runners cruise in to Bucky's.
- 20:55Jeff Dziekan: This is always a fun one.
- 20:56Jeff Dziekan: It's in Colleen at Lions Park.
- 20:58Jeff Dziekan: Uh street runners meet every Sunday night at the Lions Club and they cruise on over to Bucky's, get yourself a sandwich and uh beaver beaver nuggets and all that good stuff.
- 21:07Jeff Dziekan: And then you got the car meet at 403 Eats coming up in Tomball.
- 21:10Jeff Dziekan: That's the 17th.
- 21:12Jeff Dziekan: And I actually uh got some buddies in a band that are gonna be playing out there at 403 Eats, I think, in the next couple weeks.
- 21:16Jeff Dziekan: It might even be at that event.
- 21:18Jeff Dziekan: So I'll keep you abreast of that.
- 21:20Jeff Dziekan: Take me with you.
- 21:20Jeff Dziekan: I don't know if I'm going.
- 21:21Jeff Dziekan: I just know that buddies might are playing out there.
- 21:23Don Armstrong: If you go, take me with you.
- 21:25Don Armstrong: Will you?
- 21:26Jeff Dziekan: I'll take you with me.
- 21:27Jeff Dziekan: I'll take you anywhere.
- 21:28Mike Marrs: Put him in the cargo area of the Buick, Jeff, and just tag him along.
- 21:32Don Armstrong: Time now for this week in auto history, Mr.
- 21:34Don Armstrong: Morris.
- 21:35Don Armstrong: Where are we at, Michael?
- 21:36Mike Marrs: Yes, sir.
- 21:37Mike Marrs: We found a few things that we uh thought were really interesting uh this week in auto history.
- 21:43Mike Marrs: Starting in May the 3rd, 1919, W.
- 21:46Mike Marrs: O.
- 21:46Mike Marrs: Bentley officially founded Bentley Motors.
- 21:49Mike Marrs: His idea was to build a fast car, build a good car, and make it the best in class.
- 21:54Mike Marrs: And what they did to get their reputation going for their engineering excellence, they went out and did endurance races.
- 22:00Mike Marrs: Like Le Mans, and they even made it to the Indy 500 in 1922.
- 22:05Mike Marrs: And this is the type of activities that built up their creds inside the market.
- 22:10Mike Marrs: And even today, it's much respected as a handcrafted British luxury performance automobile.
- 22:16Mike Marrs: And in May the 4th in 1904, we often talk about the Oldsmobile Curved Dash vehicle that ransom Olds brought out.
- 22:25Mike Marrs: It was one of the first mass-produced automobiles.
- 22:29Mike Marrs: It was a lightweight runabout single cylinder engine, made it very reliable.
- 22:35Mike Marrs: But the thing was that he a lot of his assembly techniques actually predated Henry Ford's moving assembly line.
- 22:43Mike Marrs: So he proved that you can build a car efficiently.
- 22:46Mike Marrs: And one of the things that helped this thing get in started, it was actually a fire in 1901.
- 22:53Mike Marrs: All the prototypes for the new Oldsmobiles burned except for the curved-runabout.
- 23:00Mike Marrs: So by it being the only survivor, they built 2,500 in 1902 of them, and that's what really kicked it off, and they built 19,000 total before it went out of production.
- 23:11Mike Marrs: Arson.
- 23:12Mike Marrs: Arson?
- 23:13Mike Marrs: Arson?
- 23:14Mike Marrs: Then May the 5th, 1964.
- 23:16Mike Marrs: And we've talked again about the Mustang.
- 23:18Mike Marrs: We talked about before how the Mustang rollout was so successful that they sold a million of these things the very first year.
- 23:24Mike Marrs: But one thing I did not know, along with the World's Fair and the nationwide dealership rollouts where everybody showed at the same time, three weeks after that, Ford was Mustang was to be the pace car for the 64 Indianapolis 500.
- 23:41Mike Marrs: So it got a lot of attention there.
- 23:43Mike Marrs: And then they also launched the Pace Car Edition immediately right behind that.
- 23:49Mike Marrs: And that even drove more traffic to the showrooms.
- 23:52Mike Marrs: And that's part of the ways that they ended up selling a million of these the very first year it rolled out.
- 23:59Mike Marrs: May the 5th, 1925.
- 24:00Mike Marrs: Chrysler introduces the four-wheel hydraulic brakes.
- 24:03Mike Marrs: We were talking earlier about the wire brakes versus the hydraulic.
- 24:07Mike Marrs: So Chrysler was very much into technology and trying to uh push new things out into the marketplace, particularly improving on the mechanical braking systems.
- 24:18Mike Marrs: And then coming up in May the 7th, 1946, I thought this was very interesting.
- 24:24Mike Marrs: The Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation was founded.
- 24:28Mike Marrs: Now that sounds like a mouthful, but what happened was in 1958, this actually became Sony, the very famous Sony electronics company that went on to uh influence automotive technology with radios and cassette players, CDs, nav systems, things that are we're still having things from Sony show up in our cars today.
- 24:48Mike Marrs: So they've really made a big deal, uh big impact on the automobile industry.
- 24:53Mike Marrs: May the 7th, 1998.
- 24:56Mike Marrs: This is terrible.
- 24:58Mike Marrs: Mercedes Benz announces the Chrysler merger.
- 25:01Mike Marrs: What was listed publicly as being a 50-50 deal, that they were both going to be co-equal partners.
- 25:07Mike Marrs: Immediately the lawsuits had started because it was reality Mercedes Benz was taking over Chrysler.
- 25:13Mike Marrs: And Chrysler was into it because they were in a bind and they wanted to kind of uh they wanted to survive is what it amounted to.
- 25:20Mike Marrs: So this uh merger lasted seven years before all the lawsuits were about over and it kind of dissolved back into Chrysler and Mercedes Daimler.
- 25:29Mike Marrs: Uh finally, in May the 8th, 1984, Chrysler introduces the minivan, the Dodge Caravan and the Plymouth Voyager.
- 25:38Mike Marrs: And and this really revolutionized family transportation with the modern minivan.
- 25:42Mike Marrs: Station wagon was still available, but this was so much more user-friendly with the front-wheel drive, the sliding side doors, car-like handling.
- 25:51Mike Marrs: It actually handled a lot better than most station wagons.
- 25:53Mike Marrs: So it quickly became a suburban staple.
- 25:57Mike Marrs: And even today, a lot of companies use these for moving people around at events and stuff because it's so easy to get in and out of.
- 26:04Mike Marrs: And that's some of the things we found this week in automotive history.
- 26:08Don Armstrong: Thank you, sir.
- 26:08Don Armstrong: Uh consumers, albeit a small number, who use artificial intelligence tools to buy a vehicle report, being more pleased with the outcome than those who don't use them, according to the Cox Automotive 2025 Car Buyer Survey.
- 26:25Don Armstrong: Uh the findings, including buyers enjoying real-time answers and personalized recommendations, could signal a shift in how consumers research vehicles and how dealerships respond.
- 26:36Don Armstrong: The study, released in January for the first time, includes data on customers using AI to buy vehicles.
- 26:43Don Armstrong: Gen Z and millennial shoppers, buyers with children, and multicultural buyers lead the shift in AI use, according to Cox.
- 26:52Don Armstrong: Cox surveyed 2,300 car buyers August 6th through September 5th, who purchased a new or used vehicle within the previous 12 months.
- 27:00Don Armstrong: And new vehicle inventories fell to 2.85 million at the start of May as elevated fuel prices drove demand for hybrids and electric vehicles to record levels while supplies of such models dropped, data firm Catalyst IQ said.
- 27:16Don Armstrong: Despite representing about one in five vehicles marketed for sale, hybrids were both the fastest turning powertrain type and had the lowest day supply, according to Catalyst.
- 27:28Don Armstrong: Hybrids advertised for sale spent an average of 59 days on a dealership lot compared to 75 days for traditional gasoline-powered vehicles and 114 days for EVs, which had supplies of 77 and 79 days.
- 27:44Don Armstrong: Hybrids had a 67-day supply.
- 27:47Don Armstrong: So if you're looking for a hybrid, better get marching out there right away because uh the inventories are continuing to drop because those are the hot potatoes, so to speak.
- 27:56Don Armstrong: Yeah.
