Google Home Opens Up to AI Agents: MCP Behind a Paywall
On 16 September 2026 Google opened early access to the Google Home MCP server, compatible with any agent that supports the Model Context Protocol and limited to Premium Advanced subscribers paying $20 a month in the United States. This piece reads the move as a vendor decision: MCP becomes the de facto interoperability standard across the whole Google stack, and agentic access to an installed base gets priced as a premium feature.
