- 1:22Speaker 1: among other things, about the spookiest, creepiest, most bone chilling
- 1:27Speaker 1: episodes of Disgraceland, rock stars, who are in your favorite

- 1:33Speaker 1: at your funeral? And of course your voicemails, text, dms
- 1:36Speaker 1: and more, and as always, a whole lot of rosie.
- 1:39Speaker 1: All right, disc goes, let's get into it alright. October
- 1:54Speaker 1: twenty twenty three is coming to a close. Halloween is
- 1:57Speaker 1: a mere five days away, which means we've got five
- 2:00Speaker 1: more days of frights, and the so called spooky season
- 2:03Speaker 1: is not dead yet or is it undead? Here in
- 2:06Speaker 1: Disgrace and have been reanimating, reincarnating the dead, or rather
- 2:11Speaker 1: getting into these old episodes from the archive, Creepy Crawley episodes,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the gnarliest, the weirdest, all the strange, all the spine tingling,
- 2:18Speaker 1: all the stomach turning stories that we've told you over
- 2:20Speaker 1: the last five years or so. And if you've been
- 2:23Speaker 1: in the fee this week you know this. You've got
- 2:24Speaker 1: an archive releases on ACDC in a connection to Richard
- 2:27Speaker 1: Ramirez aka the knight Stalker, Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of
- 2:31Speaker 1: Darkness himself, the great bluesman Robert Johnson, and how that
- 2:36Speaker 1: deal went down at the Devil's Crossroads or didn't go
- 2:38Speaker 1: down Led Zeppelins, Jimmy Page so deep into the dark
- 2:41Speaker 1: arts that he freaked out David Bowie. And today today
- 2:45Speaker 1: we just dropped an episode from all the way back
- 2:48Speaker 1: in season one on Norwegian black Metal, which has got
- 2:51Speaker 1: to be heard to be believed. And then tomorrow through Sunday,
- 2:54Speaker 1: more episodes, more terrifying tales coming your way from Charles Manson,
- 2:58Speaker 1: Skip James and Black Sabbath. Six one seven nine oh
- 3:02Speaker 1: six six six three eight is the voicemail for the
- 3:04Speaker 1: old school messaging and the new school messaging six one
- 3:07Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight For the text,
- 3:10Speaker 1: it's the same you know at Disgrace Sampods on the
- 3:13Speaker 1: Socials Disgrace Sampod at gmail dot com on email. I
- 3:17Speaker 1: cannot wait to hear from you guys this week on
- 3:19Speaker 1: all things music and true crime. All right, let's get
- 3:23Speaker 1: straight into your voicemails. Let's dig right in here with
- 3:26Speaker 1: Matt from the five one oh with a great music
- 3:29Speaker 1: discovery story.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Hey Jake, Matt calling from Long Beach, California. I grew
- 3:36Speaker 2: up a fellow New Englander like yourself, and uh. I
- 3:40Speaker 2: grew up in small town in New Hampshire, and I
- 3:43Speaker 2: have a memorable music discovery story for you. So I
- 3:48Speaker 2: used to get sent to the dump by my parents
- 3:52Speaker 2: once a week to drop off our trash. People at
- 3:55Speaker 2: the dump lights to call it the solid waste facility,
- 3:57Speaker 2: and we're offended if you called it the dump. There
- 4:01Speaker 2: was one day that I was dropping off trash, driving
- 4:03Speaker 2: through my mom's car and dropping off trash bags next
- 4:08Speaker 2: to their giant infinerator. I saw stacks of records that
- 4:13Speaker 2: were getting ready to be tossed into the incinerator. And
- 4:16Speaker 2: being the you know, lifelong music junkie that I am,
- 4:20Speaker 2: I had to take a look and see what the
- 4:22Speaker 2: records were. I always would go through my dad's records
- 4:25Speaker 2: and steal his Choos and Chung and led Zeppelin, the
- 4:27Speaker 2: Who records and everything, so wanted some of my own,
- 4:31Speaker 2: and lo and behold there was a stack of just
- 4:34Speaker 2: classic hip hop records, original pressings of Licensed to Ill,
- 4:39Speaker 2: two copies of the Sheeese Crafty twelve Bench from the
- 4:42Speaker 2: Beastie Boys, grand Master Flash, all the Run the MC
- 4:46Speaker 2: records all in great condition. I mean they were like,
- 4:49Speaker 2: I don't know, thirty or forty records in this stack.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And so I asked the people they worked at the
- 4:55Speaker 2: dump if I could take them, save them from getting melted,
- 4:59Speaker 2: and yeah, they let me. I loaded them into my
- 5:02Speaker 2: alms trunk and the rest is history. I still have
- 5:06Speaker 2: all of those records. They're all part of my gigantic
- 5:10Speaker 2: record collection. Yeah, there was a huge line for me,
- 5:13Speaker 2: and it got me into some electro stuff and everything
- 5:16Speaker 2: that I wasn't previously familiar with. So I loved the
- 5:19Speaker 2: podcast people, some.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Good work, amazing story, Matt crazy. How sometimes the world
- 5:25Speaker 1: just gives you things when it comes to music, at
- 5:28Speaker 1: least it just here it is, Matt, just for you.
- 5:31Speaker 1: We've got this whole treasure trove of amazing hip hop
- 5:34Speaker 1: music right here in the middle of this dump. We
- 5:38Speaker 1: used to call it the dump as well. I've found
- 5:41Speaker 1: records on the street before, discarded records, more like stuff
- 5:45Speaker 1: that was just kind of mass printed in the seventies
- 5:48Speaker 1: and eighties that people just everyone kind of had but
- 5:51Speaker 1: didn't really want after a while. Carol King's Tapestry The
- 5:55Speaker 1: Saturday Night Fever soundtrack the Grease soundtrack. These are records
- 6:00Speaker 1: that you could probably get in any college, moving day,
- 6:04Speaker 1: on any corner, on any year in Boston, Massachusetts.
- 6:08Speaker 3: Uh.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Peter Frampton Frampton Comes Alive. That's another one. But it
- 6:12Speaker 1: sounds like you you just got, like you know, mona
- 6:15Speaker 1: from heaven, like the gods just you know, reached down
- 6:18Speaker 1: and said, here, here you go. We're going to turn
- 6:20Speaker 1: you on and keep you turned on with this amazing
- 6:23Speaker 1: hip hop record collection. So good for you, Matt, love
- 6:26Speaker 1: it all right. Let's hear from a new listener, Angie
- 6:28Speaker 1: from the four four three.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I dig It's Angie. Been thinking about Colin for a
- 6:35Speaker 3: long time. I love this Grace lampod and I love
- 6:39Speaker 3: the bonus episode just as much. I kind of got
- 6:43Speaker 3: started late. I've been binging for the past two months
- 6:47Speaker 3: and I'm not call it up yet, but somehow Spotify
- 6:51Speaker 3: sed me some of the latest episodes. So I had
- 6:53Speaker 3: a topic that I wanted to talk about, kind of
- 6:56Speaker 3: related to what I do, and I'm a hospice nurse.
- 6:59Speaker 3: I listened mostly on my puput, which is a couple
- 7:01Speaker 3: of hours, and you had mentioned do you wanted a
- 7:06Speaker 3: certain songs played at your funeral, and I was wondering
- 7:10Speaker 3: what songs people would like to listen to as they're dying,
- 7:14Speaker 3: or what songs mean the most of them that they
- 7:16Speaker 3: think they might like. That's all. Thank you keep doing
- 7:19Speaker 3: what you do it. I love it, love it, love it.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Bye, Angie, thank you for calling in. Appreciate you stoke
- 7:25Speaker 1: to welcome new listeners into the show. Awesome to hear
- 7:27Speaker 1: what you do for a living as well. Dark topic
- 7:30Speaker 1: you bring up here, Angie, but I get it. I
- 7:32Speaker 1: mentioned this. I mentioned the same topic from time to
- 7:35Speaker 1: time to my wife whenever we hear the song Wildflowers
- 7:39Speaker 1: by Tom Petty, because that is the song that I
- 7:42Speaker 1: would have playing at my funeral. But Angie, you have
- 7:46Speaker 1: prompted a question of the week here and I thank
- 7:49Speaker 1: you for it. So listeners, yeah, I mean six one
- 7:53Speaker 1: seven nine six six six three eight, let's just jump
- 7:55Speaker 1: off what Angie's putting down here. What song do you
- 7:59Speaker 1: want playing your funeral? Let us know six one seven
- 8:01Speaker 1: nine six six six three eight. In the meantime, let's
- 8:04Speaker 1: check in with another Jake, Jake from the three eight five.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Hey, Jake, it's Jake from the four three five. I
- 8:12Speaker 2: wanted to let you know I like that. Oh, I
- 8:16Speaker 2: can't remember what the name of it is. Is Ah
- 8:19Speaker 2: with the Trucks Come into Life and their album was
- 8:23Speaker 2: based on it. Anyways, Thanks Jake, Bye.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Bye, Jake. You're talking about the movie, the horror movie
- 8:29Speaker 1: Maximum Overdrive, written and directed by Stephen King. Yes, kind
- 8:34Speaker 1: of cheesy, but in a great kind of way. I
- 8:37Speaker 1: love this movie. And the soundtrack is the soundtrack that
- 8:40Speaker 1: you're mentioning is ac DC's Who Made Who, which is
- 8:43Speaker 1: kind of the greatest hits, but it's but there's a
- 8:46Speaker 1: single on it. The title track Who Made Who was
- 8:48Speaker 1: a new single that they did for this album. I
- 8:50Speaker 1: think there might have been another another couple of new songs.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I can't remember now now, but I know it feels
- 8:56Speaker 1: like Stephen King got a budget to do a movie
- 8:58Speaker 1: that he's going to direct. He was finally in charge.
- 9:00Speaker 1: No one was going to fuck up his his ip
- 9:03Speaker 1: talking to you, Stanley Kubrick, at least from Stephen King's
- 9:06Speaker 1: point of view. And he goes to direct this movie
- 9:07Speaker 1: and he's like, I know what I'll do. I'll get
- 9:09Speaker 1: my favorite band of all time, ACDC, to do the soundtrack.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And they were like, yeah, here's a bunch of old
- 9:15Speaker 1: songs and uh, here's a new one to boot. I
- 9:18Speaker 1: think that's what happened. I'm just guessing. I've never read
- 9:20Speaker 1: anything about the making of that record, but I just
- 9:22Speaker 1: feel like that's how it went down. I saw them
- 9:24Speaker 1: on that tour, by the way, I was in the
- 9:26Speaker 1: sixth grade, I believe, uh, and they were incredible. It
- 9:30Speaker 1: was you know that movie Maximum Overdrive is partly responsible
- 9:34Speaker 1: for my my still to this day and my deep, deep,
- 9:37Speaker 1: deep reservoir of love for ACDC. All right, guys six
- 9:40Speaker 1: one seven, nine oh six, six six three eight, with
- 9:43Speaker 1: your voicemails and your text ac DC and Stephen King's
- 9:47Speaker 1: Maximum Overdrive brings up a good question. What's the best
- 9:50Speaker 1: rock star slash horror movie crossover? Is it ac DC
- 9:54Speaker 1: with Stephen King and Maximum Overdrive? Is it Studio six
- 9:58Speaker 1: six six and Foo Fighters? Do you love Rob Zombie
- 10:00Speaker 1: as a filmmaker? So what movie do I need to watch?
- 10:03Speaker 1: Is it Tom Waits and Bram Stroker's Dracula? Is it
- 10:06Speaker 1: kiss In Scooby Doo? It's not Kissing Scooby Doo, But
- 10:09Speaker 1: I had to bring that up. It's on the mine
- 10:10Speaker 1: because my son's watching that one. What rockstar killed it
- 10:13Speaker 1: in horror movie? That's what I want to know? Six
- 10:15Speaker 1: one seven, nine oh six sixty six three eight on
- 10:17Speaker 1: voicemail or text. Also, Angie, my new friend. I haven't
- 10:20Speaker 1: forget about the question of the week that you prompted either. Guys,
- 10:22Speaker 1: you can only choose one song to play at your funeral?
- 10:25Speaker 1: What is it? I want to know? It's dark, but
- 10:28Speaker 1: it's the dark season six one, seven nine oh six
- 10:30Speaker 1: six six three eight Back in a moment with your texts,
- 10:54Speaker 1: all right? This one from the two five to two,
- 10:56Speaker 1: This text coming in saying, uh, hey there, Jake, just
- 11:00Speaker 1: to the Robert Johnson episode. It's been a few years
- 11:02Speaker 1: and it's as good as it was back then. Good work.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I know you read, but you probably have a backlist
- 11:07Speaker 1: of books people send you to read. This is true.
- 11:10Speaker 1: The two five to two goes on to say, if
- 11:12Speaker 1: you do, go ahead and throw Spider's Kiss on the list.
- 11:14Speaker 1: It's by Harlan Ellison, one of history's greatest writers. You
- 11:18Speaker 1: never heard of. The story is so good, really really
- 11:21Speaker 1: really really good. And if Harland was still alive, he
- 11:23Speaker 1: would like your show, especially this Robert Johnson episode. I know,
- 11:26Speaker 1: I know you're busy, but thanks for doing all you do.
- 11:28Speaker 1: You got a two fight too. I like the recommendation there.
- 11:31Speaker 1: I will check it out. The three ZHO three rights
- 11:33Speaker 1: in I love do comments on Justin Trudeau and Jada
- 11:36Speaker 1: Pinkett Smith three oh three is referring to a couple
- 11:40Speaker 1: little rants I had. I believe those in the pre
- 11:41Speaker 1: party and uh yeah, fuck Justin Trudeau. Let's see at
- 11:46Speaker 1: the age six to two rights in your rant on
- 11:48Speaker 1: boomer attitudes was really uncalled for. Just as millennials gen X,
- 11:53Speaker 1: gen Z don't want to be grouped together as general
- 11:55Speaker 1: practitioners of assholary, neither do boomers. All people are not
- 12:00Speaker 1: like in a generation. I thought you knew that. Congrats
- 12:03Speaker 1: for being part of the intergenerational problem. All right. I
- 12:06Speaker 1: don't mind a little criticism, I don't mind a little heat,
- 12:08Speaker 1: but I'm gonna I'm gonna stick up for myself. Here
- 12:10Speaker 1: at eight six two, you are writing in response to
- 12:13Speaker 1: my rant and the pre party on Yon Winner, and
- 12:16Speaker 1: I wasn't grouping all boomers together. I was very clear
- 12:19Speaker 1: if I do recall on how that generation in particular
- 12:25Speaker 1: has had a particular type of narcissism. But I did
- 12:30Speaker 1: qualify it. I'm almost positive I did, because I usually do.
- 12:33Speaker 1: But if by some chance I did not. If I
- 12:36Speaker 1: did not, then I was mistaken. And uh I would
- 12:39Speaker 1: ask you, age six to two to look at your
- 12:41Speaker 1: generation with the same bit of nuance that I look
- 12:44Speaker 1: at mine. You know, Gen xers, we think we're all badass,
- 12:47Speaker 1: we think we were raised by wolves, we think we
- 12:49Speaker 1: can stand anything. But deep down, we're just as emotional
- 12:53Speaker 1: and sensitive as everybody else. And we're not all one group.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I know that. I know that I'm not suggesting we are.
- 12:59Speaker 1: We are the greatest generation, next of course to the
- 13:01Speaker 1: greatest generation. All right, let's get into some more texts.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Here seven oh five writing in on an old question
- 13:07Speaker 1: here on sad sack music. This question, what favorite seventy
- 13:11Speaker 1: sad sack music do you guys get into? Didn't get
- 13:13Speaker 1: a lot of traction, but I don't care. I want
- 13:15Speaker 1: to get into it.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Here.
- 13:16Speaker 1: My favorite seventy sad sack music is Casey in the
- 13:18Speaker 1: Sunshine Band Please Don't Go. Favorite Jim Crochey album is
- 13:22Speaker 1: Photographs and Memories. Favorite alter ego would be Vincent Funnier
- 13:25Speaker 1: aka Alice Cooper. Favorite Halloween music is Jack the Ripper
- 13:29Speaker 1: by screaming Lord such and that's all I got for now.
- 13:32Speaker 1: That's a lot. That is a lot, and I dig it,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I dig it. But is Casey in the Sunshine Band
- 13:40Speaker 1: Sad Sack Music seven to two four writes in Hey Jake,
- 13:42Speaker 1: it's Anthony. You asked about bands to listen to around Halloween,
- 13:45Speaker 1: and I was curious what your opinion on Ice nine
- 13:48Speaker 1: Kills was, since they do songs based on horror movies, games,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and books. Anthony, I've never heard of Ice nine Kills,
- 13:54Speaker 1: so I'm gonna have to check that out, or if
- 13:56Speaker 1: you want something a little different. This is Anthony continuing.
- 13:59Speaker 1: There's a German new Danish folk band called Hilung that
- 14:02Speaker 1: uses Viking in German ruins from the Iron Age. That
- 14:06Speaker 1: sounds incredible. I don't really know what that is, but
- 14:08Speaker 1: that sounds nuts. You also asked about that seventy Sound
- 14:11Speaker 1: and Jim Croche and I don't know if this falls in,
- 14:13Speaker 1: but I really enjoy Gordon Lightfoot, especially his album's Summertime Dream,
- 14:17Speaker 1: And in terms of favorite Halloween disgrace in that episode,
- 14:20Speaker 1: I do like the Jim Morrison one best. Big Lyrich
- 14:22Speaker 1: is my second. Keep on keeping on in later days, mate,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you got it? Seven two four. Uh, yeah, that's a lot.
- 14:30Speaker 1: That's a lot. You know that big lyrich episode's coming
- 14:32Speaker 1: at you seven to two four in a couple of days,
- 14:34Speaker 1: all right, two four to eight, writes in again this
- 14:37Speaker 1: also on sad Sack music. You asked about soft music.
- 14:42Speaker 1: The seventies are my formative years. I had such a
- 14:44Speaker 1: crush on Neil Diamond, wore out his Hot August Night
- 14:47Speaker 1: Vinyl Love Cat Stevens as well played Carol King Tapestry
- 14:50Speaker 1: and James Taylor Sweet Baby James eight tracks over and over,
- 14:53Speaker 1: still love them all seven oh nine, writing in, let's
- 14:56Speaker 1: cap this out with another discovery story. That's where we
- 14:59Speaker 1: started this whole age thing, with seven oh nine rights saying, hey, Jake,
- 15:02Speaker 1: you asked how we got into music. Like most nineties kids,
- 15:04Speaker 1: early on, it was whatever my parents listened to, country,
- 15:07Speaker 1: Irish traditional until high school, when I was introduced to
- 15:11Speaker 1: all ages punk shows by my high school crush. Every
- 15:14Speaker 1: Sunday I'd hang out with different people, and then, in
- 15:16Speaker 1: the early days of non dial up internet used pure
- 15:18Speaker 1: volume to find pop punk emo bands. Now, in my thirties,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I've evolved to listen to a variety of Music seven
- 15:24Speaker 1: o nine. I remember pure volume, good text, appreciate it.
- 15:28Speaker 1: I wonder what you think of the whole emo revival,
- 15:30Speaker 1: the pop punk emo revival. I'm sure you're into it
- 15:32Speaker 1: as we are.
- 15:33Speaker 2: All right.
- 15:33Speaker 1: One more here from the six oh nine, Hey Jake,
- 15:35Speaker 1: Mary from the six oh nine. Top Halloween songs for
- 15:37Speaker 1: me or anything by John Carpenter, especially the Halloween theme.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Saw him and his son do a show of all
- 15:43Speaker 1: his songs a few years ago and it was awesome.
- 15:45Speaker 1: He is such a vibe that sounds incredible. I'd love
- 15:47Speaker 1: to see John Carpenter put on a concert that sounds amazing.
- 15:52Speaker 1: All right, That's what we got six one seven, nine
- 15:54Speaker 1: oh six six six three eight. That's how you get
- 15:57Speaker 1: in touch with me. That's how you leave your voicemails,
- 15:59Speaker 1: That's how you send you text. That's how we engage
- 16:01Speaker 1: here in Disgraceland. I want to know what you're thinking
- 16:03Speaker 1: about I want to know what you think about this.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I've been thinking a lot about this. I've been thinking
- 16:07Speaker 1: a lot about Halloween music. We've been talking about Halloween music.
- 16:09Speaker 1: We've been talking about Halloween playlists. But that's got me
- 16:13Speaker 1: thinking what music you brought up? John, Carpenter What music
- 16:17Speaker 1: scares you? John Carpenter makes some scary fucking music, the
- 16:21Speaker 1: soundtrack for The Fog in particular. But it doesn't have
- 16:24Speaker 1: to be horror themed compositions. It doesn't have to be
- 16:28Speaker 1: from horror directors, doesn't have to have anything to do
- 16:30Speaker 1: with Halloween. Just like what music actually scares you, like
- 16:36Speaker 1: freaks you out. Like you're driving late at night. It's dark,
- 16:40Speaker 1: maybe it's foggy, maybe this is a little miss in
- 16:43Speaker 1: the air. You can see the white lines on the
- 16:46Speaker 1: sides of the roads, but you can't really make out
- 16:48Speaker 1: the dotted line in the middle. You're driving about twenty
- 16:51Speaker 1: miles slower than you normally do, and that song comes
- 16:55Speaker 1: on the radio and you're into it. At first, it's
- 16:58Speaker 1: a vibe. It fits with the fog and the mist
- 17:02Speaker 1: and the darkness of it all. But then something turns
- 17:06Speaker 1: and it's it's actually a different feeling. It's fucking fear.
- 17:10Speaker 1: What is that music? What is that music that will
- 17:13Speaker 1: transform your environment and scare the shit out of you.
- 17:17Speaker 1: It can be anything. It can be sad sax seventies music,
