- 0:00Speaker 1: Mister New York Mormon war.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Well, the brilliant columnist Liz Peak, and of course you

- 0:10Speaker 2: columnists would also go to her site, lizpeak dot com
- 0:14Speaker 2: every day the best news and analysis. And when you
- 0:17Speaker 2: go to lizpeak dot com sign up for the daily newsletter.
- 0:21Speaker 2: The news will come to you every day. Write free,
- 0:22Speaker 2: write to your email lizpeak dot com, Lizpeak. How you doing.
- 0:28Speaker 1: I'm terrific. Thank you. Lots going on, Mark.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Hey, it's one year today. The inauguration of Donald Trump
- 0:33Speaker 2: was one year ago. First year today. What do you
- 0:36Speaker 2: think is that? Have you ever seen anything as busy
- 0:39Speaker 2: as this first year?
- 0:41Speaker 3: No, to say that the president has been a bold
- 0:44Speaker 3: and energetic leader, I think vastly understates the accomplishments that
- 0:50Speaker 3: he has rolled up in his first year. I mean,
- 0:52Speaker 3: it's really pretty unbelievably remarkable. All the while, remember seeing
- 0:58Speaker 3: the press on a daily by handling phone, you know,
- 1:02Speaker 3: handling interviews and conversations with let's face it, mostly hostile press.
- 1:09Speaker 3: But I actually wrote a column about it today and
- 1:14Speaker 3: just here's just a sampling of what he's accomplished. So
- 1:18Speaker 3: we boosted the recruitment for our military, dismantled DEI, and
- 1:24Speaker 3: a lot of the climate agenda, pushed NATO to up
- 1:28Speaker 3: their spending for their own defense, tossed overboard a lot
- 1:31Speaker 3: of regulations that Joe Biden put in plays that really
- 1:34Speaker 3: slowed down our country's progress, challenged our woke universities in
- 1:39Speaker 3: a very constructive way, got rid of Nicola Maduro, the
- 1:44Speaker 3: head of Venezuela, defended women's sports, significantly derailed Auran's nuclear program,
- 1:51Speaker 3: oversaw a whole bunch of health initiatives from RFK Junior,
- 1:54Speaker 3: like getting rid of artificial food dies, shrunk the bureaucracy,
- 1:58Speaker 3: which I think is unbelieved important, the federal bureaucracy, and
- 2:03Speaker 3: pushed through a massive reconciliation bill that lowered taxes, and
- 2:08Speaker 3: that was basically, had it not passed, you were going
- 2:11Speaker 3: to have this major tax cliff at the end of
- 2:14Speaker 3: last year. So that's just some of it, by no
- 2:17Speaker 3: means an exhaustive list. But honestly, Mark, who has ever
- 2:20Speaker 3: accomplished all that much in the first year, I don't know.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah, we triveled this earlier. For millions of years. They
- 2:26Speaker 2: always wanted to get some of the great CEOs in
- 2:29Speaker 2: the private sector, maybe you know, maybe they could be
- 2:31Speaker 2: a president, you know, Jack welcher LEI Koca. Well, we
- 2:35Speaker 2: finally got a CEO from the private sector, and unlike
- 2:38Speaker 2: a normal president, it does a couple of things a year.
- 2:41Speaker 2: As a committee of me. This guy goes a mile
- 2:43Speaker 2: in a minute, tries to get fifty things done a day
- 2:45Speaker 2: like most great CEOs. But is that a good mix
- 2:48Speaker 2: with government or will we ever do it again?
- 2:51Speaker 1: Well?
- 2:52Speaker 3: I hope so, because, as you say, the default is
- 2:56Speaker 3: a career politician like Joe Biden, whose idea about tackling
- 3:00Speaker 3: a problem is to convene a lot of people and talk, talk, talk,
- 3:04Speaker 3: and then pass the buck to Congress, which convenes a
- 3:07Speaker 3: conference and a study group and talks, talks, talks, and
- 3:11Speaker 3: basically ends.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Up doing nothing.
- 3:13Speaker 3: I mean, I actually think that's a fair indictment of
- 3:16Speaker 3: the way our system works. There's far too little accountability.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I am not happy with some of the things that
- 3:22Speaker 3: Trump has done recently, but you got to say the
- 3:25Speaker 3: guy is accountable. I mean, he's out there every day
- 3:28Speaker 3: confronting his critics. The stock market and other measures, polling
- 3:33Speaker 3: and stuff will weigh whether he's doing a good job
- 3:36Speaker 3: or a bad job.
- 3:37Speaker 1: But the reality is he's taking.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Risks, excuse me, and he's getting things done and he's
- 3:42Speaker 3: not finished.
- 3:43Speaker 2: No pat Now, Minnesota, you got videos showing these protesters
- 3:48Speaker 2: just the most awful behavior ever. On a while, you
- 3:51Speaker 2: see a video where the ICE maybe got the wrong guy.
- 3:55Speaker 2: But what do you think in the end this is
- 3:56Speaker 2: going to do for the midterms?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Well, I do want to see de escalation.
- 4:02Speaker 3: I mean the idea that Governor Walls is now calling
- 4:06Speaker 3: in the National Guard and the Trump is threatening to
- 4:11Speaker 3: call in troops. I mean, what are we gonna have
- 4:13Speaker 3: a war in Minneapolis with these elements fighting each other.
- 4:16Speaker 1: That's not tenable. It's not going to happen.
- 4:19Speaker 3: But somehow, Frankly, you know what, I think you should
- 4:23Speaker 3: just say to the people of Minnesota. Okay, you're governor
- 4:27Speaker 3: and you mayor fry of Minneapolis really don't want ICE
- 4:31Speaker 3: getting the violent criminals out of these communities, mostly Somali
- 4:35Speaker 3: criminals in those state, in that state. So we're just
- 4:39Speaker 3: going to leave you to it. We're going to have
- 4:41Speaker 3: a ring around your state. I'm serious. If you don't
- 4:44Speaker 3: want you got them, you got them. We're going to
- 4:46Speaker 3: make sure they don't got any place else because a
- 4:49Speaker 3: lot of them are just really horrible people, child molesters
- 4:52Speaker 3: and rapists and murderers.
- 4:54Speaker 1: But if you're.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Happy to have them here, we leave you to it
- 4:58Speaker 3: and see what happens. I think I don't think people
- 5:01Speaker 3: in Minnesota would be very excited about that, and I
- 5:04Speaker 3: think that might end up, you know, having local law
- 5:08Speaker 3: enforcement kind of do a pivot and say, well, wait
- 5:11Speaker 3: a minute, that's not what we had in mind, So
- 5:13Speaker 3: maybe it would work.
- 5:15Speaker 2: I like that President should announce Minnesota is now a
- 5:18Speaker 2: safe space. We ice will not enter Minnesota every illegal
- 5:23Speaker 2: just go there and you'll be safe. Let them all,
- 5:25Speaker 2: all of them go there. Perfect. Now. Hey, I'm listening
- 5:29Speaker 2: to this new governor in New Jersey and she's stuck
- 5:31Speaker 2: about the focus on Greenland when people are struggling to
- 5:34Speaker 2: pay for groceries and the prices of groceries are going
- 5:37Speaker 2: way up. Well, that's not true at all. The price
- 5:39Speaker 2: has been coming down all year, haven't they.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Well, inflation, the rate of inflation is certainly down from
- 5:44Speaker 3: the nine point one percent that it reached under Joe Biden.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But unfortunately, because of several years of Bidenomics and high inflation,
- 5:52Speaker 3: price is escalated and they don't easily come down. Some
- 5:55Speaker 3: things have come down, like gasoline, which is a very
- 5:59Speaker 3: big deal Americans, definitely cheaper than it was a year
- 6:02Speaker 3: ago or two years ago. Price of eggs, which was
- 6:06Speaker 3: a big crisis you know, early in the year, early
- 6:09Speaker 3: last year, has come down. But look, I mean, unfortunately,
- 6:14Speaker 3: it's very difficult to get prices to come down. But
- 6:17Speaker 3: mark what's more important than the price level of cereal.
- 6:21Speaker 3: And by the way, that's one of the big things
- 6:23Speaker 3: that going up in price right now is things like
- 6:26Speaker 3: those processed foods from the big companies. Is wages, Real
- 6:31Speaker 3: wages are going up under President Trump, and they didn't
- 6:34Speaker 3: under Joe Biden.
- 6:36Speaker 1: So you have American consumers better off.
- 6:40Speaker 3: I know that the polling shows people unhappy with the economy.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I think there are two elements there.
- 6:45Speaker 3: One, yeah, you go to the grocery store, you think,
- 6:47Speaker 3: holy crow, when did that become ten dollars? But then
- 6:51Speaker 3: the other thing I think is that there is this
- 6:53Speaker 3: underlying anxiety about AI and about what it means for
- 6:56Speaker 3: the jobs market. Anxieties, which I will hate to add
- 7:01Speaker 3: are always magnified by a hostile press, as are the.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Price concerns that people are voicing.
- 7:07Speaker 3: I mean, really, if you read the financial news, you
- 7:11Speaker 3: just have to take a step back every single day
- 7:14Speaker 3: and say, Okay, you know what, this is not a
- 7:15Speaker 3: fair representation. When did you see, by the way, as
- 7:19Speaker 3: an example, the media big headlines about the growth rates
- 7:23Speaker 3: that we've seen in the last couple of quarters.
- 7:26Speaker 1: You don't see that because that's.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Favorable to President Trump, so they're not going to talk
- 7:30Speaker 3: about that. When did you see about the big investment
- 7:33Speaker 3: boom or productivity and gains in our country? Those are
- 7:36Speaker 3: extremely important financial matrix, and yet the media simply ignores
- 7:42Speaker 3: them and would rather focus on.
- 7:45Speaker 1: Issues that are important for sure, like.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Affordability because that's a Democrat favorable issue.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Right now, let's talk about housing though.
- 7:54Speaker 3: If there's a number of indicies that measure housing affordable,
- 8:00Speaker 3: they are improving.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Have you seen that headline lately? No, you haven't.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Mortgages lately have come down significantly. The President clearly is
- 8:09Speaker 3: pushing for even more reduction. So some things are getting better.
- 8:13Speaker 3: But the combination of lower taxes, less regulation, high growth,
- 8:18Speaker 3: and incomes improving means that every time we have a
- 8:22Speaker 3: read on consumers, such as just in the recent days,
- 8:27Speaker 3: the holiday sales number, retail sales turns out haha, guess
- 8:31Speaker 3: what better than expected because the expectations constantly are so
- 8:36Speaker 3: beaten down by again a hostile press.
- 8:39Speaker 1: And I don't mean to blame everything on the press.
- 8:41Speaker 3: I think the Republicans done an absolutely appalling job at
- 8:45Speaker 3: selling the big tax bill. Democrats are out there saying, oh,
- 8:50Speaker 3: it only favors the wealthy. That is just patently not true,
- 8:54Speaker 3: but Republicans never talked it up because I think they
- 8:58Speaker 3: were just scared. O. No, Honestly, I'm kind of pretty
- 9:03Speaker 3: worked up about the Republican's lame efforts on messaging and
- 9:07Speaker 3: a number of other fronts. But the answer is, it's
- 9:11Speaker 3: a pretty good bill, and I think people see their
- 9:14Speaker 3: tax refunds are up substantially and they begin to look
- 9:17Speaker 3: at their take home pay, they're going to be pretty
- 9:19Speaker 3: happy with it.
