- 2:43Thanks for having me man. What a pleasure to be invited. It
- 2:46is a pleasure to have you here, sir. Does that disclaimer at the
- 2:47top apply to me too? What's that? Which one pressure? Yeah?
- 2:53Yeah, they do not apply to that. Actually they do apply to you,
- 2:55okay, um, they do. Thanks, So here I just got
- 3:01a text from somebody and Hannah, just stand by. I'm gonna be right
- 3:04with you. That the Pepperoni Grill, the fifty fifty Friday, they sold
- 3:07out at night officially now at nine oh five. Wow. That's why we
- 3:12say throughout the week, go be ready at nine o'clock because it's these fifty
- 3:15fifty coupons. We do generally speaking restaurants. Sometimes it's other businesses. But
- 3:21they went. They go live on all of our websites, this one and
- 3:23all the other stations in the building. They're they're sold out. They sold
- 3:27out at nine oh five this morning. And that's why grill is great.
- 3:29It is fantastic. It is fantastic. So we apologize for that, but
- 3:35you know, it's popularity, man. People are listening. They're doing something
- 3:38right over there too, a Pepperoni grill. Okay, let's bring in Hannah
- 3:40Gardner from the Canal Chosh, New Maine Association with this week's Adopt Me Please
- 3:45Pet of the Week. Hannah, good morning, how are you. How
- 3:47are you? I'm doing fine, And this is Adam Harris from from Mountain
- 3:51States. I don't know whether you two know each other or not, but
- 3:53Hannah I'm a dog lover and pet lover myself, My wife and I foster
- 3:58kittens and so we're pet lover and looking forward to talking to you this morning.
- 4:01That's awesome. So I've got the picture posted as we do each week,
- 4:06to Dave Vali Radio on Facebook and add Dave A seventy on Twitter.
- 4:11The dog's name is po Po, So tell us about Poe Hannah. He
- 4:18is the cutest little thing. He is a boy. He's not fixed yet,
- 4:25but he will be before he leaves his adoption. See is ninety five.
- 4:30He is considered an adult dog. He is ten months old. He
- 4:34is microchips vaccinated, and he came in as a stray, so we don't
- 4:41really know too much about his background, but we do know that he prefers
- 4:46being all dogs or more submissive mail dogs, so dogs that are going to
- 4:53be more less alpha of the group. And he's very very playful and very
- 5:00very active and really loves attention. So he needs someone who is maybe like
- 5:04a young family that goes on walks or hikes or goes on a lot of
- 5:09trips or something, because he definitely loves to be doing things at all times.
- 5:15About how big of a dog is this, Hannah. I can tell
- 5:17looking at the photo. He's just gorgeous. He's got pure white hair and
- 5:21a big smile. This would be a fun addition to a dog for a
- 5:25family that's looking for a dog. About how big is he? Yeah,
- 5:29he is about thirty five pounds. He's rather he's not small, he's not
- 5:38big. He's he's a good, medium, fun sized, easy go lucky
- 5:44dog. He is just he's just a very good dog. Honestly, he's
- 5:47very playful. He loves to run around. Um, he definitely likes toys
- 5:51and stuff. So he's he's young, and he's a puppy and he needs
- 5:55somebody who can match his energy, a lot of energy, it sounds like.
- 5:58And Hannah, he came in as a stray. Do we know,
- 6:00like from what area or what his story was or anything like that. Yeah,
- 6:05he came in as a stray from cross lanes. Um so you live
- 6:10in Adam, do you live a cross lane? I did until about a
- 6:13year ago this time. Okay, so last year, okay, alright,
- 6:15alright, go ahead. Yeah, he showed up at someone's house and they
- 6:19had brought him in. Um so he went on a stray hold for a
- 6:23while. But nobody ever claimed them. So he is available now. Um
- 6:28and he, like I said, he's not fixed yet, but he will
- 6:30be. He'll put him on the surgery schedule and get him fixed. And
- 6:33then whenever you come up and you can say that you want to see Poe,
- 6:38you can take him for a walk. And if you can't adopt just
- 6:41yet and you want to see how it goes for the night or for the
- 6:44weekend or something, you can always tell us that you want to foster him
- 6:47for the weekend, and you are more than welcome to do. So.
- 6:50He's a beautiful dog. And I mean, I'm not good at guessing what
- 6:54types of what breed the dog is, but he's he's beatiful. I know
- 7:00that, and he guesses honestly. No, he he could be a mixture
- 7:08of things, Like he looks like he's got that square of katy face,
- 7:11but then he also looks like he's got terrier in him, so I'm not
- 7:15sure. Well, he's a beautiful dog regardless. Again. Hannah Gardner from
- 7:18the Canal Charleston Umine Association with her dot me please pet of the week.
- 7:21The dog's name is Poe. Go check. Take a look at Poe picture
- 7:26posted to Dave on on Radio on Facebook and at Dave a seventy on Twitter,
- 7:30and you said he's a very active dog and he and I like this,
- 7:32Adam. He prefers female dogs or very submissive male dogs. So in
- 7:36other words, he prefers dogs that are married. He likes married dogs once
- 7:40you're submissive, Is that right? Right? Exactly? He seems like the
- 7:45kind of dog has a lot of energy, also kind of likes to be
- 7:46in charge maybe or wants to be the leader of the packet. Sounds like
- 7:50yeah, he definitely does. He. If you if you do have a
- 7:56male dog and you want to do like a meet and greet, you are
- 7:58more than welcome to bring your dog up to the shelter. So don't meet
- 8:01and meet with one of our dogs as long as they are an adult dog,
- 8:07so that way you can kind of see and better gauge on how it's
- 8:09going to go. I do always say that dogs are different out of the
- 8:16shelter are as they are in the shelter. Som if that were to change,
- 8:22then you know, great, But as the shelter, he's really turned
- 8:26to female dogs and submissive male dogs. Well, hopefully we can get Poe
- 8:31adopted. By the way, I want to throw this out there and I
- 8:33didn't. I want to surprise you with this. But you remember Cruton,
- 8:37right, the dog that we got adopted last year. Kruton is our big
- 8:39success story the Shepherd family. I think out of Saint Albans, I want
- 8:45to say, adopted Kruton. Cruton was an absolutely beautiful dog. And I've
- 8:50never met the people that adopted Kruton in person, but we kind of became
- 8:54Facebook friends and she's always posting. She has a she has a thing called
- 8:58the Chronicles of Kruton that she does, and I sent Hannah some pictures this
- 9:01week because this is their one year anniversary of Cruton that was adopted from this
- 9:05show. And this dog is just turned out to be I mean, we've
- 9:09had a lot of success stories at him, but this is probably the biggest
- 9:11one because this was an older dog. Do you remember, Hannah how old
- 9:15Cruton was? And that I know that, and she's probably listening. She
- 9:18can probably text us up and tell us. But he was an older dog,
- 9:20if I if I remember correctly, right, seven eight years old?
- 9:22Maybe? Yeah, I believe he was maybe about seven or something, yeah,
- 9:26and uh that he went to that family and I mean, she's always
- 9:31posting pictures of him, and as I said, it's the chronic chronicles of
- 9:33Cruton, what he's doing in different places. It's it's it's been a fantastic
- 9:37so and I brought that up because they did the gotcha, you know,
- 9:41the one year anniversary thing. Uh, and I saw her she posts on
- 9:43Facebook. That's our that's our big story. You guys are feeling a need
- 9:46there as well. I mean, senior dogs. There's so much need for
- 9:50homes and pets, and there's such a diversity of needs. We're hearing from
- 9:52one now in the background. That's personal. That's that's Hannah's dogs. That's
- 9:56she's not even at the shelter. Yeah, that's but that's the truth.
- 10:01And no matter what your needs are, I'm sure the Humane Society could help
- 10:03you find a pet that's going to be right for your family. And even
- 10:07though Poe is a high energy dog, there might be a senior dog that
- 10:09maybe is perhaps a little more fitting for you as as an energy dog.
- 10:13That's right, Yeah, exactly, it might be a better fit for somebody
- 10:18like Dave. And so I know if you go to the shelter looking for
- 10:20a pet, you'll find one that's a good fit. Yeah, absolutely,
- 10:24all right Hannah before we let you go. Oh, you were only a
- 10:26couple of weeks away from Texas and Tales at your big fundraiser Capital Market.
- 10:31It's a Derby thing this year, talk about them. Yeah. So it
- 10:35is May sixth, which is Saturday, and it is at seven pm.
- 10:39So we have a Facebook event that you can go to our Facebook page and
- 10:46see where it's as Texas and Tales twenty twenty three and pretty much the tickets
- 10:52cover your food, your drink, the whole dj EJ photo booth, contest,
- 10:58games like that. So it is going to be so much fun and
- 11:01we hope that everybody comes out and has so much fun with them. Yeah,
- 11:05it is, and it's we're definitely looking forward to it again. And
- 11:07it's the whole Derby theme. So you can dress in your Derby attire if
- 11:11you if you choose to do that. Great food. One of my favorite
- 11:13places in Charleston, soho's there in Capital Market is going to be providing the
- 11:16food. You got specialty cocktails. There's a silent auction you said, dj
- 11:20Eju. That's right. Dj EJ is gonna be there and a dot some
- 11:24Derby, I understand right yet, so that is a newer thing because I
- 11:31just learned about that the other day as well. So I'm not exactly sure
- 11:35what all that's Donna and Tael, I mean, obviously we know what it
- 11:37is, but but I'm excited to see how it all goes down. I
- 11:41think it's going to be so fun and so cute to watch. Well,
- 11:46I think it will be too. And we got time to talk about that
- 11:48too, because I'll have you on Leanto two more times between and now and
- 11:50then. Hannah Gardner, as always, I appreciate you being here. Thanks
- 11:54a lot, and I'll keep telling the story of Poe and hopefully we can
- 11:58have another Cruton story with Poe and get Poe adopted out because Poe would be
- 12:01a great dog. Thanks a lot, Hannah, we'll talk soon. Thank
- 12:03you. And a gardener from the Canal Charleston Main Association. The dog's name
- 12:07is Poe h not fixed yet, but we'll be soon. He's around thirty
- 12:11five pounds ten months old. He is microchipped and has had all of his
- 12:16shots. Came in as a stray from the cross lanes here. Maybe maybe
- 12:18Adam, he just got tired of fighting the traffic and he's out of here,
- 12:24and so he's in the shelter right now. It would be a beautiful
- 12:26dog for your family. And again I urge you go over to my Facebook
- 12:28page, Dave Allen Radio or at Dave A seventy on Twitter and take a
- 12:31look at it. I actually, Hannah, normally, you know, she'll
- 12:35just send me a picture of one picture of the dog. Last night he
- 12:37sent me too. She said, I can't decide which one. So you
- 12:39know, I said, you know what, let's just go with both of
- 12:41them. Let's just go with both of them. And so what yeah,
- 12:43it is. It would prefers female dogs or a very submissive male dogs.
- 12:46But still, as you said, Adam, dog's young, so it could
- 12:50possibly be worked with them. No, but no, but no behavior issues.
- 12:52An tells me it would learn to be a good dog no matter what.
- 12:56And I'm sure it would be a great with kids as well. So
- 13:00that is our I dobt me. Please. Pet of the Week from the

- 16:57friend Eating Douglas from The Dirty Birds with us right now? Even good morning?
- 17:00How are you? Good morning? I'm well, how are you?
- 17:03Thank you for being here, Adam Harris from Mountain Stage. Do you two
- 17:07now? I feel like I'm always introducing people on Friday Night. I don't
- 17:10know if we've met in real life or not, but I'm certainly aware of
- 17:11all the good work you do over there. Oh thank you. Yeah,
- 17:15I don't think we've met yet, but thank you for that appreciation. Well
- 17:18now you have now. Originally, I do want to say a little programming
- 17:21that we had the food guy Stephen Keith. We all read his weekly column
- 17:23and the exact mail to join us. Davids and things with his regular job
- 17:29came up so he couldn't make it. We'll have him on in the future
- 17:30show. But it actually kind of worked out well because Eden, you got
- 17:33a lot to say about these games tonight and tomorrow with the Savannah Banana's coming
- 17:37to town, and I know it's been nuts for you folks, it has.
- 17:41I feel like it's been non stop all week. But they actually pulled
- 17:45up yesterday and a huge semi with all of their equipment at ten am.
- 17:49And we have not stopped since, I mean, trying to get everything ready
- 17:53with them. But it's actually kind of amazing because their entire staffage here like
- 17:57it is their show. They are running it. They're just playing our team,
- 18:02and I feel like we're just here. But it's absolutely incredible to how
- 18:06nice they've been, how great they've been to work with the last day or
- 18:08two, and we're super excited. Does it feel like you're almost like a
- 18:11visiting team in your own ballpark because they came in so self sustained, it
- 18:17does? I mean? And then we got a text yesterday that said,
- 18:18just a reminder, the Dirty Birds will be the away team for this weekend.
- 18:22So that's definitely going to be rubbing it in. Well. I saw
- 18:27that one of their players went down to my almal Water down to Logan High
- 18:30School yesterday to speak to some I guess little leaguers or something down There's it
- 18:34right eaton, Yeah, I did see that they had I want to say
- 18:38it was about three or four of them that were went down there yesterday,
- 18:41but they actually ended up taking VP. They got into town about five o'clock,
- 18:45the players did, and they took VP and did a little rehearsal in
- 18:48our field, and I was sitting up in one of the suits trying to
- 18:51get work done, and I see a guy rolling in a barrel across and
- 18:55like started going back foods off of it. So that's what batting practice is
- 18:59for the this is rolling in a barrel, all right. So hopefully even
- 19:03people got their tickets. And if you recall, and I recall, that
- 19:07night, the tickets were pretty much gone as soon as they went on sale.
- 19:11In fact, ticket demand crashed the Savannah Bananas website. But I want
- 19:15to make sure we get this out there to people. Even it's important to
- 19:18note that you guys, and you guys, I mean the dirty Birds had
- 19:22absolutely nothing to do with ticket sales for this game. No, nothing at
- 19:26all, and I mean that's unfortunate. But also this is just the way
- 19:30that the Savannah Bananas are and how their organization works, and the best way
- 19:34to describe its people is that as a field rental, I mean, like
- 19:37I said yesterday, their entire staff is here and it is their show.
- 19:41So we had nothing to do with ticketing. The only thing we'll be running
- 19:44this week in our concessions and all of our vendors. So but the everything
- 19:48you see this weekend is strictly from the Bananas. All the video board,
- 19:52all of the scoreboard, I mean just absolutely everything is from them. And
- 19:56they even switched our main entry. Our main entry is typically at the Morris
- 20:00Street gate where the box office is, but there's going to be a pregame
- 20:03party and the main gate will be on the Lewis Street side at the home
- 20:07plate date for the Dirty Birds at the ballpark. So they're switching everything up
- 20:11on us and we have nothing to do with it. It's very interesting,
- 20:15it is. That's a good way to put it, an Adam, you
- 20:17know a little something about this. It's basically like just a rental. They
- 20:21basically rented Gilmart Park tonight for this game and tomorrow night as well. So
- 20:26it's it's a very different venture because, as we said, other than putting
- 20:32the players on the field and the Dirty Birds are the away team in this,
- 20:37you don't really have a whole lot to do with this game. I
- 20:38mean, I mean, obviously you're gonna do the concessions and things of that
- 20:41nature, but everything else, as you said, from the video board on
- 20:45down is all Savannah Bananas. It is, and they're actually teaching our guys
- 20:49at two o'clock today, they're going to be teaching our guys how to play
- 20:52banana ball and kind of go over some dance routines. So I'm really excited
- 20:56to see our guys Coully participate in some stuff and Adam, you know,
- 21:02And we're getting talking to Adam a little bit later on, but Adam's other
- 21:04other career. In addition to being the main guy to Mountain Stage, Adam
- 21:08is also in the pro wrestling business. So there's a lot of similarities.
- 21:12You and I were talking about it, you and Coop and I were talking
- 21:15about it's sports entertainment. This is sports entertainment, you know. And I
- 21:18think the Bananas have picked up on something here that is that is obviously very
- 21:22successful and very popular and no wonder you know, that's why they want to
- 21:26do this. And I want to say, ask a question about the tickets
- 21:29or just to go back to that for because I know we've had at Mountain
- 21:30Stage, we've had some tickets that were in such high demand and sell out
- 21:34quickly, but then they crop up in other places online. And you mentioned
- 21:37that someone said our tickets really five hundred dollars day earlier. You know,
- 21:41and it's like, and that same thing happened for a couple of shows that
- 21:44we did, like when we had Tyler Childer's. People are like, who's
- 21:45charging to it? Why would you charge to our fifty dollars? Well,
- 21:48if you look, that's actually a paid ad from some sort of a secondary
- 21:52market or something like that, and it's not Power Park or even the bananas.
- 21:55That's a resell market. Is that right? Is that how you understand
- 21:57it, Hannah, Yeah, that's how That's how we're understanding it. Whenever
- 22:03the tickets originally went on sale from the Bananas, we were under the impression
- 22:07that they were only twenty five dollars. And I think that's why people are
- 22:10like all over the place, is because why I might having to pay an
- 22:12arm and a leg for the bananas and they were originally twenty five dollars,
- 22:17So they're like all resale scalpers. But that's just how it is. Yeah,
- 22:22And I think some people there's just a lack of understanding I think sometimes
- 22:25with people and how that works. And the secondary market for tickets is huge,
- 22:30it is. And we made an announcement that the dirty birds, you
- 22:33know, don't have anything to do with ticketing for the event, but it
- 22:37is at our ballpark, so I do get the confusion. But it is
- 22:41important to know that we did everything we could and that everything that we were
- 22:44supposed to do, and we're ready to get the events rolling. And if
- 22:47you've got your tickets, you're a very lucky person. You're gonna have a
- 22:49great time. And I never want to promote the fact that people are doing
- 22:55as Adams's secondary market, which is a nice way of saying scalpers, but
- 22:59but I have seen people that are even friends of and things do come up,
- 23:03you know, people that aren't scalping them. I've seen people online posting,
- 23:07hey, I'm not gonna be able to go family emergency, got to
- 23:08work or whatever selling for so not everybody that's reselling the tickets. Guys are
- 23:14doing it in that fashion. I saw a post from somebody that said that,
- 23:17hey, I just want what I paid for them because because I suddenly
- 23:19got called out to work and game careful in the comments though, because a
- 23:22very popular post will find comments I've got two tickets. I've got two tickets,
- 23:26and that could be very much a farce. You know, that could
- 23:27be a scam for sure. And next thing you know, you've paypaled somebody
- 23:30fifty dollars and you're out and you're not going to the game. And it's
- 23:33so no fault to the dirty birds because nothing dirty birds can do about that.
- 23:37So other than the different entrance for the game, even let's talk about
- 23:41to other protocols anything. If I've got my tickets and I'm going to the
- 23:45game tonight or tomorrow night, and we'll talk about weather coming up there in
- 23:48just a little bit. But I go to the game tonight or tomorrow night,
- 23:49what would I see different? So the main difference is that they will
- 23:56enter through the Lewis Street side, through that gate where the Plausa is.
- 24:02There'll be a pre party with a banana band, and that'll be the kind
- 24:04of the main entrance. But eventually we'll open up the More Street side where
- 24:08the box office gate is to try to get all these people in here and
- 24:11make sure they're in here and in their seats by seven whenever the event starts.
- 24:15The Smith Street side will be the VP or v I D as they
- 24:21like to call it, and kids club entrance at four forty five. But
- 24:26as far as that, that's about the only difference. No outside food and
- 24:30beverage like always, there is not This is one of our biggest questions.
- 24:34There is not a clear bag policy. We do not have that at the
- 24:37ballpark. But every bag will be checks upon jury. All right, So
- 24:41make sure that you know that what time is the Lewis Street gate open?
- 24:47That will be at five thirty. Gates open at five thirty. Yeah,
- 24:49all right. Five Ady Live is brought to part by Generations Physical Therapy seven
- 24:53convenient locations along as sixty four, and they're hiring for both license and technically
- 24:57train staff. For more information, visit Generations PT dot com. All Right,
- 25:02I hate to say it because I know there's a lot of activities going
- 25:04on in Charleston and around the surrounding areas. You got the of the end
- 25:08of Racism run, I think, which is tomorrow, Adam, you probably
- 25:11know more about that than I think. I think I think it is.
- 25:15I'll be at the West Virginia Food Truck Festival tomorrow over in Putnam County.
- 25:18I'll be serving as MC for that. They got rain in the forecast eating,
- 25:21So what happens, uh if if we were heaven forbid to get rained
- 25:26out tomorrow? Look, today looks good, But what happens if if if
- 25:27we get the rain tomorrow as of now, if it would rain, the
- 25:33makeup day for the game will be Sunday at one pm. So every ticket
- 25:37that people will have for Saturday's games, they're able to use it on Sunday
- 25:41at one pm. But fingers crossed, there's not one. There's not a
- 25:45rainout, but if there happens to be, that is the backup plan is
- 25:48Sunday at one pm. Okay, very good, because I mean, these
- 25:51these folks are so in demand eating that they can't just say, well,
- 25:55we'll stick around it like Tuesday, because there they're often gone somewhere else for
- 25:57a Tuesday game. So that would be and it is all right. We'll
- 26:00get back to the bananas here in just a couple of moments, but before
- 26:03we go, let's talk dirty birds, talk about the team that employs you,
- 26:07and let's talk about opening Day, which is a road game. Win
- 26:10is that Opening day is April twenty eighth. We start on the road out
- 26:14to Staten Island and then we are back at the ballpark here in Charleston on
- 26:18May night, and that's the home opener May night. So it's gonna be
- 26:21a lot of fun as it as it always is, and we'll plan on
- 26:25as we get closer to that opening day or the home open, or anyway
- 26:27I planned on having if the schedule allows you, maybe a couple of players
- 26:30and my gay Billy Horn, the manager of the Dirty Birds in the studio
- 26:36as well. All right, Eden, we wish you the best of luck
- 26:38with everything, because I know it's going to be a stressful twenty four hours.
- 26:41But you knew that when you signed up for this gig. Okay,
- 26:44all right, it's gonna be a lot of fun, and I know a
- 26:47lot of people are really really going to enjoy it. I gotta I don't
- 26:49care to I mentioned his name, but I got a text from a good
- 26:52friend of mine to day that said, any chance you can get me tickets
- 26:53for the game, and I was That was about eight fifteen this morning,
- 26:57and with all due respect, I texted back and said, uh, is
- 27:00this a joke that kind of got? I got nothing I can get you
- 27:07like autograph pictures of Dale Cooper. That's about the only thing I can get
- 27:10you, and that there's no guarantee that's even spelled right here. So all
- 27:12right, Eden, Uh, thanks good luck with everything, and uh and
- 27:17we will talk to you soon. Thanks a lot, d Eaton Douglass with
- 27:21the dirty Birds. I mean, I can't imagine, Adam. I think,
- 27:23I mean, it is exciting, but I can't imagine. I don't
- 27:26want to say, well, I guess it's a maybe it's a good and
- 27:29a bad kind of stress with what they're because when I talked to eat when
- 27:32I talked to Eaton last night, um, you know, she was still
- 27:34at the ballpark trying to you know, and she she said, we were
- 27:37that they were trying to leave because it is a business and they were trying
- 27:41to go home like normal people. And the phone's still ringing off the hook
- 27:44with people wanting tickets for this, for this event. And good for them,
- 27:47I mean, I know it. They must be working so hard and
- 27:48it must be weird to feel like a stranger in your own home, almost
- 27:51like they're taking orders from other people. It sounds like, you know,
- 27:53and they've got to follow the protocols of the bananas. But yeah, it's
- 27:56a great blessing to have that many people fill the ballpark. It's generating a
- 28:00lot of interest. I think there's people coming from all over the East Coast,
- 28:03if not the country to be here for this. Hey, I mentioned.
- 28:06I mentioned to a listeners Adam month or two ago, I was up
- 28:10in Marietta, Ohio, which is kind of like my second home these days.
- 28:12I was up in Marietta at the Chamber of Commerce center and one of
- 28:15the higher ups with the with the bananas was the guest speaker up there and
- 28:19was promoting this game in Charleston. And I was sitting around people that were
- 28:25all saying, oh, yeah, we got our tickets were coming. I
- 28:26mean, and that's you know. I mean, it's not like Marietta's in
- 28:29Cleveland. It's an hour and a half away from downtown Charleston. But but
- 28:32still, I mean, it just goes to show you the demand of this.
- 28:36I do want to get this in there. I did mention that the
- 28:37Westernginia Food Truck Festival is tomorrow. That's where I'll be tomorrow over in Putnham
- 28:41County to Fairgrounds and Evildore noon to five lots of great food, music,
- 28:45games, and a whole lot more. If you need more information, they're
- 28:47sold out on food trucks as far as taking new food trucks. There at
- 28:49their limit on food trucks right now. If you need more information, you
- 28:52can call the Putnham County Convention Visitors Bureau about that three or four seven five
- 28:56seven sixty five ten. Three or four seven five, seven sixty five ten
- 29:00and talking to the folks from the c CBB yesterday, they're gonna go.
- 29:04It's a rain or shine event now. Ponchos are welcome, umbrellas are welcome.
- 29:10The only way that they would postpone it would be if there were like
- 29:14lightning, you know, lightning or widespread flooding or things that which doesn't look
- 29:18like it's going to be the case. I think that's gonna be really fun.
- 29:19And I love the fairgrounds in Eleanor. It's just so beautiful. It's
- 29:22such a wonderful drive out there. It's one of my favorite parts of the
- 29:26county and I love the fair grounds. I think that's gonna be really fun.
- 29:29I'm jealous you get to hang out there a well. You know,
- 29:30there's a lot of great music, a lot of great bands. You and
- 29:33I were talking about the bands earlier that are going to be there, and
- 29:36I'll get some information posted about it on the day Land radio and Facebook.
- 29:38And one of the great things about this too, there is always a charitable
- 29:44component of this Adam and uh and this year it is it's an organization called
- 29:48Bamboo Bridge. And what Bamboo Bridge does, it's a transit. It's a
- 29:51it's a transitional home and transitional services for kids or now young adults that are
- 29:56transitioning out of the foster care program because they've been in a foster care program
- 30:00and sometimes they don't have the basic skills. Now, okay, well you're
- 30:03eighteen, you're on your own, you know, and they haven't had a
- 30:07lot of that. So that's what they do. There is no admission to
- 30:10get into the food truck festival. It's absolutely free. If you just if
- 30:12you don't want to take part in the food and you just want to come
- 30:15and enjoy the music, you can do that. Gates open it to noon
- 30:18tomorrow of the Putnam County Fairgrounds and elinor no admission to get in. However,
- 30:23there are gonna be like rifles and things of that nature to raise money
- 30:26for this organization, Bamboo Bridge, and that's where the money goes. That
- 30:30the food trucks themselves pay to be in it. Now, the food is
- 30:33not free. You're gonna have to pay for the food if you want the
- 30:36food, and you can't bring any food from the outside and things that nature.
- 30:38Dogs dogs are welcome, though anna size crowds. If it was free
- 30:42food, it's not free well you know, you know, we would be
- 30:45the first ones in line. But there's all different kinds of foods available.
- 30:48And as I said, I'm gonna be serving as EMC. I've done it
- 30:51every I think nearly every year that they've done it. So if you get
- 30:55an opportunity to come and join us tomorrow over into Putnam County Fairgrounds and Elinor
- 30:57it's beautiful, beautiful rain or shine. We're gonna be there. Gates open
- 31:02at noon tomorrow, so it's definitely going to be a lot of fun.
- 31:04And admission is free. So if on Saturday, take him some food.
- 31:11He said, last year he went home hungry, and nobody should leave a
- 31:12food fest. I did this last year. He's so busy. I did
- 31:17actually not get to eat last year because I was busy on stage and they
- 31:22and the and they sold out of food. Reason to get there earliest,
- 31:26but they sold out. They don't have an infinite amount of food in these
- 31:29trucks. Yeah, I mean, you're gon only carry so much that they
- 31:30sold out so my wife told me I get home and she said, you're
- 31:33the only person I know they can go to a food truck festival and come
- 31:34home and like tear up the refrigerator because you're once so beat. Speaking of

- 35:16Jeff Petty as our producer today. Adam Harris from Mountain Stage is my
- 35:20special Friday guest host. Adam and I have known each other. I did
- 35:23the math for around eight years or so, and I'll quickly tell a story
- 35:25of how we met. We were both chosen to go through a business program
- 35:30called Leadership West Virginia. It's a wonderful program, by the way, and
- 35:34if you were selected to go through the program, they take you round.
- 35:37It's like fifty or so business professionals. They take you all around the state
- 35:39and you learned about different areas of the state and learn about each other and
- 35:43things of that nature. Different themes every time. Had a great time doing
- 35:46that. In our particular group, we had the Mayor of Charleston and Amy
- 35:51Schuler who's a tourism commissioner at the time, Tim Brady from the cvb Rick
- 35:57Cavender from Charleston Main Streets, and Kona County Board. General Hoyer always always
- 36:04great, how agreed to hang out around us for some reason. Always great
- 36:06to be friends with somebody that has access to tanks. I've always said that.
- 36:09Uh, And we were all thankful to General Horrior during the pandemic.
- 36:14Yeah, and there are all kinds of great but I have to say,
- 36:19uh that one of the things, the one reasons Adam and I hit it
- 36:22off with each other was because you're asking this program to write down a fact
- 36:25about yourself that no one would know like you because it couldn't be related to
- 36:29your career, like with Adam being with Mountain State. We would't ask about
- 36:31music, but something like that. And my fact was I had been in
- 36:35the pro wrestling business for like whatever it was at the time, twenty five
- 36:37twenty seven years. And Adam came up and said, I kind of meet
- 36:40you, and not because not because of Dave Allen, but because because of
- 36:45my involvement in the in the wrestling business. And so that's that's like your
- 36:47second gig now, Man, I got you into business. Unbelievable. I
- 36:51owe you a lot, Jay because you did. You got me into the
- 36:52business. It has been about seven years now, and you took me to
- 36:55an ASW show and without me even really knowing or you didn't ask me.
- 36:59You were just like, this is Adam. He's gonna step in his ring
- 37:00announcer, you know, and I've never ring announced before except in my wrestling
- 37:05Figure Federation, you know, back as a kid, you know, playing
- 37:07with my hasbros. But uh, you're having a good time. It's been
- 37:09a great fit. Yeah. Man, I just love it ever so much
- 37:13and it just it keeps me connected to what makes me feel young. And
- 37:16it's cool to be a part of such a camaraderie. It is kind of
- 37:19like a fraternity and it is ways it is and it's it's its own family.
- 37:22And so I thank you. I owe that to you. Well,
- 37:24I'm glad to do it. And I tell I had a lot of fun
- 37:28in the in the business, uh met, A lot of people traveled to
- 37:30a lot of locations. I mean, it was a lot of fun.
- 37:34But saying yeah, it really was. And we could talk about wrestling all
- 37:37day, but I want to talk about a little bit about you and about
- 37:40Mountain States. First of all, give us the bio on Adam Harris,
- 37:44give us hometown, your stats, you know, tailed the tape on Adam
- 37:46Harris. Cool. Cool. Yeah. I grew up in Greenboro County,
- 37:50UM, and I went to college in Radford University where we had a music
- 37:54business program and I got a degree in music business, which was, you
- 37:59know, a little more glamorous sounding that it actually was. It was like
- 38:01music classes and business classes and there are only a couple that overlapped. But
- 38:06I had to have an internship to get my degree, and so I applied
- 38:09to be an intern at Mountain Stage here in Charleston, and my aunt and
- 38:13uncle Larry and Larry and Aunt Margie invited me to live with them in Nitro,
- 38:17in the Polka area actually, and I'd stayed with them while I did
- 38:21a four hundred and sixty hour internship with Mountain Stage, and that helped me
- 38:24get my degree, and I just stuck around. I fortunately, the lady
- 38:29who trained me as assistant producer was moving on to get a real job,
- 38:32and they brought me in in October of o five as a part timer.
- 38:37And I stuck around doing just about every job you can do. I mean,
- 38:39I've wrapped cables on stage. I did a stage hand, you know,
- 38:42I've loaded the truck. I've rode along with the production truck, booked
- 38:45hotel rooms, booked some travel for the crew. And eventually my predecessor,
- 38:52Andy Ridenhower, who started the show with Larry Gross back in nineteen eighty three,
- 38:58he was ready to retire and so they asked me to become the executive
- 39:00producer of the show and that was in August of twenty twelve. So I'm
- 39:04coming up on eleven years now of being the executive producer of Mountain Stage.
- 39:07And if you don't know what Mountain Stage is, it's a public radio program.
- 39:10We tape it in front of a live audience, so folks buy a
- 39:13ticket, usually at the Culture Center here on the Capital grounds. They come
- 39:15and they witness a two hour radio show, and then it's broadcast later on
- 39:20about two hundred and eighty stations across the country. So it is actually an
- 39:22attraction. People come from all over the country to see it. And last
- 39:25week's show we actually had I think there was more people from out of state
- 39:29than there was in the audience. You know. We always ask as anybody
- 39:30from out of state, and they raised their hands from all over the country,
- 39:34from Florida, from New Jersey, from Philadelphia, Ohio. Virginia.
- 39:37Really fun to see people coming to experience live music in West Virginia and that
- 39:40and I feel some of us sometimes here in West Virginia we may take it
- 39:45for granted and maybe we don't appreciate it like it should. But as you
- 39:47said, the rest of the country definitely does not take it, does not
- 39:52take it for granted. There's people who listen every week on their public radio
- 39:57station and we hear it. Some people come and I just love it when
- 39:59they said this is a bucket list for me. You know, I've been
- 40:00listening to twenty years and I can only imagine like what they imagine in their
- 40:04mind that Mountain stage is, you know, because if you've never been to
- 40:07it, you hear it on the radio, and so it's it's almost like
- 40:08your imagination takes over. But I know that once people come to see the
- 40:13show, they appreciate it in a whole new way. And now they can
- 40:15kind of visualize what's going on. You know, they're probably a little disappointed
- 40:19what our looks, but you know, once they adjust to that, it's
- 40:22it's a fun thing. And people were amazed at how quickly we do things.
- 40:25You know, we turn over bands really quickly. We do our theme
- 40:28song live every time. People think it's like prerecorded and we just roll tape.
- 40:32Now we do it live every time. And this is our fortieth season
- 40:36and so we've been celebrating all year and in December will be officially our fortieth
- 40:39birthday, and we've got a lot of exciting stuff coming up, but we're
- 40:43gonna be announcing some cool road shows. It's been cool. We've been invited
- 40:45to some of the areas where we're carried out. And where are some of
- 40:49the places that you've taken the road show. I mean we're not talking this
- 40:51shily just about going to Wheeling. I mean you can take that for sure.
- 40:54Yeah. Well, um, I think it was twenty eleven we got
- 40:57invited to Glasgow, Scotland to be a part of the Celtic Connections festival.
- 41:00So that's my only international travel with the show. But then we also went
- 41:04to Fairbanks, Alaska, which took longer actually to get to Fairbanks than it
- 41:07did to the Glasgow. We're just about as long. We've done some roadshows
- 41:12in northern Minnesota. We've been to Ashland, Kentucky. We've been to Lexington,
- 41:15Kentucky. We're going to be in Marietta in a couple of weeks on
- 41:19May the seventh, up at Mariette at the People's Bank Theater with a love
- 41:22it up there and I love the drive to Marietta. And we'll be in
- 41:25Athens, Ohio next weekend with Wilco. But that one sold out, kind
- 41:29of like the bananas and like your fifty fifty, that show is sold out.
- 41:31So but yeah, so we like to go where we're invited. You
- 41:35know, we have done the show. We do it Morgantown pretty regularly.
- 41:37We've been to Beckley, We've been to Princeton and Bluefield over the years,
- 41:40and trying to go wherever people will have us because that brings the show kind
- 41:45of to the front of them listeners mind, they're reminded that, oh I
- 41:47can listen to this every week on the radio, and so it's more likely
- 41:51to keep them engaged. And when we go on the road, we take
- 41:52Charleston with us. You know, tourism is two tourism industry. Our agencies
- 41:59are our major supporters, and so we have the same goal, which is
- 42:01improving the image of West Virginia to those outside our borders and hopefully attracting them
- 42:06here and bringing them here, you know, get some heads in beds.
- 42:07And not only do we get them here, we try to keep them here
- 42:09as long as we can. And so in partnership, I think we do.
- 42:13That's what we're trying to do is give people a positive image of West
- 42:16Virginia. And when these people come, this is and anytime that I,
- 42:20you know, my wife and I go out of town for a concert and
- 42:21event of whatever. We don't just go to the show and turn around to
- 42:22come back, right. You know, you're gonna go to dinner. You're
- 42:24gonna go and you're gonna take in some of the other things, especially if
- 42:28you're coming from from a long distance away before we go to break and we'll
- 42:30come back with ten questions. So in the days leading up to the show
- 42:35and on the day of a show, what are your primarily your primary responsibilities?
- 42:38Oh gosh, or should I just say what are not your responsibilities?
- 42:42Well, you know, I'm part of a really great team, and you
- 42:44know, logistically, my friend Jeff Shirley handles a lot of the finer points
- 42:47of the details. He's the one who tells us when who somebody's flying in.
- 42:52He says, this is where the hotel rooms are, this is how
- 42:53many rooms they have. But sometimes there's some troubleshooting. You know, you
- 42:57just never know when you're gonna check your email on Friday evening or Sarah day
- 43:00morning. There could be a travel problem. You know. We had a
- 43:02band breakdown with a tire on their van not too long ago, and so
- 43:07it's just kind of like a constant state of alert, you know, in
- 43:10case something happens and you just have to deal with them. And hopefully by
- 43:15the time I get there on show day, I have to get a few
- 43:17pieces of paper together each artist has each each artist has to get some papers
- 43:23to me for certain reasons. One of those is their check. They have
- 43:25some tax info to fill out. We asked them for a song list of
- 43:29what they're going to do on the show, and then a short intro sheet
- 43:31for Larry or Kathy our host and so Kathy Mattea our host. Yeah,
- 43:36and so just to verify some quick information with that. And so as long
- 43:39as I get those in and I make sure every artist knows how long to
- 43:42play. Those are the two biggest things, as long as they know what
- 43:45they expect when they get on stage. And then otherwise, we have an
- 43:47amazing crew, a team of about twenty five people who make the show happen
- 43:51and they make my job easy. I get a lot of credit. A
- 43:53lot of people see me as a public facing part of the show, but
- 43:58behind the scenes, there's a huge and crew that that gets the show done.
- 44:00And what I love about it, and we'll do this good. A
- 44:01break is the amount of artists and their companies that reach out to you.
- 44:06You don't necessarily always have to go out to them. They're saying, hey,
- 44:08and I still remember the story from the early nineteen nineties. I don't
- 44:12remember. I want to say ninety ninety one. So the Rim story Rim
- 44:15played I think two concerts that year. I think maybe one was like something
- 44:19that was three It was Yeah and Mountain. That's the only three concerts that
- 44:23are M did in that year was Saturday Night Live, MTVM, Plug and
- 44:28Mountain State. People are still talking and they're still talking about all right,
- 44:30nine fifty two, they're gonna talk about you doing ten questions, Okay,
- 44:32because that's coming up right after this. Five eighty lives brought to you apart

- 47:30it's hard to play ten questions. I have before me ten questions each week.
- 47:34I asked my Friday co host ten questions. You have not seen the
- 47:37questions. You have no idea what I'm about to ask you. Getting into
- 47:40position, I feel like I'm about to have a race. All right,
- 47:43Are you ready, sir? I'm ready? All right? Here we go.
- 47:46Comedy, drama, action or horror. Oh, definitely comedy city or
- 47:52country. Oh. I like Charleston because it's a mix of both cake or
- 47:58pie. Dang uh. In most cases, I think I'm gonna go with
- 48:02pie. Okay, Yeah, A city or particular place you've never been before
- 48:07but would like to go someday. Holy cow, there's a lot of places
- 48:10I would like to go. I always wanted to visit Calgary, Alberta,
- 48:13Canada, because that was the home of Breath to hit Man's heart. That's
- 48:15always goes back to wrestling. Favorite toy as a kid. Oh well,
- 48:21the first toys I remember loving were my he Man figures, So I guess
- 48:23I guess I would go with that. I love the California Raisins from the
- 48:27Hardys. Uh kids meals um California Raisins. I had all the super friends
- 48:32growing up. My parents were so good to me when it came to toys.
- 48:35But then, definitely, the WWF hasbrost complete this sentence. I probably
- 48:40could not go a single day without I could not go a single day without
- 48:51telling my wonderful wife that I love Everybody say, oh, I couldn't do
- 48:55wrestling on that one. That's probably just as a stop stop right now,
- 49:00all right? I can go back in time to relive a period in my
- 49:04life. Is it childhood, teen years, early adult, or where I
- 49:08am now? I often think too. When I was eighteen years old,
- 49:12I had a job at a convenience store in sam Black, West, Virginia.
- 49:15Uh. And that's as carefree as I'll ever be. Okay. I
- 49:17had no worries, no bills, and a paycheck and worked. I loved
- 49:21my job. It was great. Uh. First name only, I'm in
- 49:24serious trouble. Who am I calling? And please don't say Ghostbusters. Oh.
- 49:30If I'm in serious trouble, I am calling my sister Amy definitely.
- 49:34Okay, Yeah, yeah, all right, final question, And since you
- 49:36are a wrestling guy, Okay, I even threw some of these names in
- 49:38here, Okay, Rick Flair, O hul Coogan, Sean Michaels, bred
- 49:45Hart, Steve Austin or Dusty Rhodes. Oh my, oh my, Son
- 49:47of the Plumber. I just watched the A and E biography. We played
- 49:52loose a couple of facts, but of course that's it. If I have
- 49:58to pick a favorite, um, it's gotta be Brett Hart. He was
- 50:00my favorite growing up. Him and mister perfect SummerSlam ninety two or ninety one,
- 50:04rather my favorite match of all time. All right, see now that
- 50:07was that? That was fun. Ten more? No, I don't have
- 50:08ten more. Let's talk. Let's close out show. We're talking about the
- 50:13wrestling thing a little bit. Everybody's got a side hustle. I tell people
- 50:15I don't have a job. I just have three side hustles. So thank
- 50:21you. So you can be found ring announcing a lot of different places for
- 50:23various wrestling organizations. I know you were a fan growing up, but when
- 50:28did you first discover a true love for the business. Oh, well,
- 50:31love for the business, you know. I didn't really think of it as
- 50:34a business until you got me introduced to it. I always kind of just
- 50:37wanted to remain on the outside. But listen, my um. I have
- 50:39two memories of wrestling. One was running home the first week we had cable
- 50:44and trying to and I couldn't wait to get home from church to surf the
- 50:47thirteen channels that we had on the television, and I turned it on and
- 50:52I saw Earthquake go off the ropes. He tied Jake the snake Roberts into
- 50:57the ropes and then squashed his snake Damien, I remember, and I was
- 51:00hooked from day one. But then also my cousin Joe Ellen, took me
- 51:04and my younger cousin or my other cousin Michael and Mark, to see wrestling
- 51:07at the Civic Center at the Coliseum here in Charleston. It was February fourteenth,
- 51:10nineteen ninety two, and in the opening match, Harley Race, the
- 51:15legendary NBA champion, was managing mister Hughes at that time, and he helps,
- 51:20he cheated and helped mister Hughes get the win. And the lady next
- 51:22to me went berserch. She was so mad chalking another one up for Harley
- 51:27Race like that, and I kind of like jumped back. I was a
- 51:29little taken off off by it, but I realized, like, wow,
- 51:30this is kind of like what we're supposed to do here, and I went
- 51:32crazy, My cousins went crazy, and we had a great time, and
- 51:36I've remembered that always. You know, one of my favorite parts about going
- 51:38to shows is just making noise, and I think that's the release that people
- 51:43will get when they go to professional wrestling. It's why people love it.
- 51:45It helps you, It helps you disconnect from reality kind of helps you forget
- 51:49about everything that's going on, and they're going to play us off. The
- 51:52crowd is responding, and so that must mean our time is getting short,
- 51:55Dave. But man, it was so fun to hang with you this morning,
- 51:58Adam Harris A Mountain Saints. Next Mountain State show is we're gonna be
