- 0:59Speaker 1: a quick on that you can have the latest edition
- 1:02Speaker 1: of this podcast delivered right to your phone, tablet or
- 1:05Speaker 1: computer by subscribing wherever you get your podcasts. It's the
- 1:09Speaker 1: greatest thing since a new course record. After broadcasting UC's
- 1:15Speaker 1: win at Central Florida on Saturday. The best way for
- 1:18Speaker 1: me to get to New York for the Bengals game
- 1:20Speaker 1: was to take the first flight out of Orlando on
- 1:24Speaker 1: Sunday morning at six am. Here's how that went. I
- 1:28Speaker 1: got up at four ten, hopped in the shower, got
- 1:31Speaker 1: on an airport shuttle at four thirty, made it through security,
- 1:35Speaker 1: bought a cup of coffee, and was at the gate
- 1:39Speaker 1: at four point fifty. That's right. It took me all
- 1:43Speaker 1: of forty minutes. There was nobody else on the shuttle,
- 1:47Speaker 1: no traffic, no line at TSA no line at the
- 1:50Speaker 1: coffee shop, and a short walk to the gate. I
- 1:54Speaker 1: felt like the usane bolt of travel. It was the
- 1:58Speaker 1: perfect start to turn out to be a great day. Now,
- 2:03Speaker 1: let's get to football and the radio replays from sunday
- 2:07Speaker 1: nights win in New Jersey. There are twelve weeks left
- 2:12Speaker 1: in the regular season. That's more than seventy percent of
- 2:15Speaker 1: the schedule, so the Bengals still have time to turn
- 2:19Speaker 1: things around. But they've got to start stacking wins and
- 2:23Speaker 1: tonight to look for a big one in the Big
- 2:26Speaker 1: Apple as they face the New York Giants. Third down
- 2:30Speaker 1: and eighteen on the Bengals first drive of the game. Again,
- 2:33Speaker 1: the Bengals with an empty formation, shotgun snap.
- 2:36Speaker 2: It's a five man rush.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Burrow runs hit thirty five, twenty five to twenty fifteen
- 2:42Speaker 1: ten five time for the pylon touchdown, a forty seven
- 2:49Speaker 1: yard touchdown run by Joe Burrow. First and ten in
- 2:54Speaker 1: the red zone at the Cincinnati fourteen with the Bengals
- 2:57Speaker 1: leading seven to nothing. Play action faise to roll out
- 3:00Speaker 1: to the right. This pass deflected and an accepted. The
- 3:04Speaker 1: Bengals have the ball, Jermaine Pratt running it back to
- 3:07Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five and a pair of offensive linemen
- 3:10Speaker 1: will make the tackle at the twenty seven yard line.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Jones had his arm hit as he dropped back to pass.
- 3:18Speaker 1: B j Hill got a piece and it floated downfield
- 3:22Speaker 1: into the hands of Jermaine Pratt for the interception from
- 3:25Speaker 1: the twenty sixth of New York. Burrow turns right, hands
- 3:28Speaker 1: it off. Moss popped hard, loses the ball, and the
- 3:32Speaker 1: Giants appear to recover at the twenty two yard line.
- 3:35Speaker 1: They do Jones under center, He takes the snaff, he
- 3:39Speaker 1: hands it to Tracy and he's into the end zone.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Knifing through the left side of his offensive line. The
- 3:46Speaker 1: Bengals line up in a pistol formation. Joe Burrow fakes
- 3:49Speaker 1: a hand off to Chase Brown, has to scramble to
- 3:52Speaker 1: the right now scrambles back to the left, floats one
- 3:55Speaker 1: downfield for Chase over the shoulder catch in Giants territory
- 4:00Speaker 1: and tackled at the thirty seven by Cordale Flott. The
- 4:05Speaker 1: Bengals have to attempt a thirty seven yard field goal
- 4:08Speaker 1: from the right hash trying to take the lead here
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the third quarter to snap the placement Moneymax kick
- 4:14Speaker 1: on its way. It is good, yep, and the Bengals
- 4:18Speaker 1: have a ten to seven lead with forty one seconds
- 4:21Speaker 1: left here in the third quarter. Four defensive linemen in
- 4:25Speaker 1: the game in a single high safety for Cincinnati Jones
- 4:28Speaker 1: and the shotgun he catches on fourth and two, he's
- 4:31Speaker 1: back to throw his pass broken up by DJ Turner,
- 4:35Speaker 1: and the Bengals stop the Giants on fourth and two
- 4:39Speaker 1: with three to zero one to go. It's an empty
- 4:41Speaker 1: backfield for Cincinnati. On third down and twelve. Burrow catches
- 4:46Speaker 1: the shotgun snap against a four man rush, begins scrambling left,
- 4:50Speaker 1: squares his shoulders throws down field, caught by u USh
- 4:55Speaker 1: a first down in Giants territory. He's out of bounds
- 4:58Speaker 1: at the thirty seven yard line. He beat Pinnock and
- 5:02Speaker 1: Burrow delivered a strike to continue the drive. The Bengals
- 5:06Speaker 1: line up in a pistol formation with Chase Brown behind
- 5:08Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. All goes in motion. They give it to
- 5:11Speaker 1: Chase Brown. He's got the first nine more check the
- 5:13Speaker 1: middle of the field. Ten five rolls into the end zone.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Touchdown Bengals with one fifty two to go, and that
- 5:24Speaker 1: his coffin nails.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Bam, bam bam.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Burrow takes a knee and that will do it. The
- 5:33Speaker 1: Bengals get a big win in the Big Apple, and
- 5:36Speaker 1: defense is the difference. Lose crew getting it done tonight,
- 5:41Speaker 1: holding the Giants to just one touchdown as the Bengals
- 5:44Speaker 1: win at seventeen to seven. So, after throwing five touchdown
- 5:50Speaker 1: passes last week, Joe Burrow didn't throw any this week.
- 5:54Speaker 1: He was nineteen for twenty eight. That's sixty eight percent
- 5:58Speaker 1: for two hundred and eight yards, no touchdowns and no
- 6:01Speaker 1: picks for a passer rating of eighty nine point six.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Missing throws I normally make you know, I felt like
- 6:07Speaker 3: I let the pressure get to me a little bit.
- 6:11Speaker 3: You know, I was able to settle down there in
- 6:13Speaker 3: the second half and kind of find a rhythm. But
- 6:16Speaker 3: the first half, you know, I didn't feel like I
- 6:18Speaker 3: was in rhythm at all. I felt like I was
- 6:20Speaker 3: getting happy feed in the pocket. I just didn't feel
- 6:24Speaker 3: like anything was going our way. So wash the tape
- 6:27Speaker 3: and see where I could have improved and been better.
- 6:30Speaker 3: I know I could have been, So that's disappointing. But
- 6:33Speaker 3: it was nice to see our defense step up and
- 6:34Speaker 3: get us a swind to day.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Burrow didn't have to have a big night. The defense
- 6:38Speaker 1: held the Giants to five for fifteen on third down
- 6:41Speaker 1: conversions and didn't allow a single play that gained more
- 6:46Speaker 1: than fifteen yards.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it was great to see our defense step up today.
- 6:51Speaker 3: That was exciting to see. You know, we got healthier
- 6:54Speaker 3: up front. You could see that that really affected the
- 6:59Speaker 3: pass rush. They were getting a lot of pressure on
- 7:01Speaker 3: the day. I think our our dbs were sticky in
- 7:04Speaker 3: coverage all day. You know, Mike Hilton makes some big plays,
- 7:08Speaker 3: big tackles, blitzing and in coverage, so that was great
- 7:13Speaker 3: to get him back and We know what we're capable
- 7:17Speaker 3: of on offense. We've proven it all year. Uh, this
- 7:20Speaker 3: was not one of those nights, But you're gonna have
- 7:24Speaker 3: some of those nights. That's you know, it's tough to
- 7:26Speaker 3: go out every single week and put up thirty. It's
- 7:30Speaker 3: you know, there's a lot of good defens there's a
- 7:32Speaker 3: lot of good coaches and a lot of good players
- 7:34Speaker 3: on the other side of the ball. So that's that's
- 7:36Speaker 3: what we expect out of ourselves. But you know, it's
- 7:40Speaker 3: probably not going to be like that every week. And
- 7:43Speaker 3: so just like every week, we're gonna watch the tape,
- 7:45Speaker 3: come back to practice on Wednesday and get better.
- 7:48Speaker 4: How badly did you guys need a win tonight?
- 7:51Speaker 2: Yeah? We really needed it.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Uh you know, I don't want to say we would
- 7:55Speaker 3: have been out of it if we had lost, but uh,
- 7:58Speaker 3: we'd be we'd be scratched for the rest of the year.
- 8:02Speaker 3: We still really are. But it's good to get a win.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Great to see our defense step up like that. They've
- 8:10Speaker 3: taken some heat the last couple weeks, but they played
- 8:12Speaker 3: awesome today.
- 8:13Speaker 1: After allowing forty one points and last week's lost to Baltimore,
- 8:16Speaker 1: the defense held a players only meeting this week and
- 8:19Speaker 1: then went out and did the heavy lifting in a
- 8:22Speaker 1: ten point win. Mike Hilton, who missed last week's game
- 8:25Speaker 1: due to injury, made several key plays against the Giants,
- 8:29Speaker 1: including a pass deflection that ended a drive on fourth
- 8:32Speaker 1: and two. I caught up with Mike in front of
- 8:35Speaker 1: his locker. Mike, I'm going.
- 8:38Speaker 2: To quote you.
- 8:39Speaker 1: You said we need to uphold our end of the
- 8:41Speaker 1: bargain earlier this week.
- 8:42Speaker 2: You more than get that tonight. We did.
- 8:44Speaker 5: You know, it was a good opponent in New York,
- 8:48Speaker 5: and for us to to turn things around, we just
- 8:50Speaker 5: gotta keep building. This was a good first step of stone.
- 8:53Speaker 5: But we got the division game next week and we gotta
- 8:55Speaker 5: be ready for it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: This is one of those games where so many different
- 8:58Speaker 1: guys made big plays on deef and DJ made several
- 9:01Speaker 1: Tray had sex. You and DJ Turner made big plays
- 9:04Speaker 1: on fourth down. It was a total defensive team effort.
- 9:07Speaker 5: Yeah, everybody kind of just took hold of what I
- 9:09Speaker 5: said that in that team meeting up and that players
- 9:11Speaker 5: only mean. You know, everybody do their job. We know
- 9:13Speaker 5: who we are as a defense, and we can make plays.
- 9:15Speaker 5: So when everybody's locked in, focused you know, we're a
- 9:18Speaker 5: hard defense.
- 9:18Speaker 1: How satisfying is that to have a victory that really
- 9:22Speaker 1: was determined by the defense.
- 9:24Speaker 2: I was big for us.
- 9:25Speaker 5: We've been here, how much the outside knows about our defense,
- 9:28Speaker 5: So this was a big stepping stone for us. And man,
- 9:31Speaker 5: we're gonna we're gonna be excited about it, but you
- 9:33Speaker 5: think about it, we gotta continue to get better. So
- 9:35Speaker 5: we're gonna we're gonna enjoy this one to night, but
- 9:37Speaker 5: then we'll be ready for next week.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Their passing attack did very little. I thought the secondary
- 9:41Speaker 1: was outstanding tonight.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Yeah, we were. We limited their explosives.
- 9:45Speaker 5: You know, if you make a teams check it down
- 9:47Speaker 5: and run the ball, you know you're winning as a.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Defense, and we did that today.
- 9:50Speaker 5: And well, think about we got out of the field
- 9:52Speaker 5: early on third downs. That that kind of settings on
- 9:54Speaker 5: doors throughout the whole game and just kind of continued throughout.
- 9:57Speaker 1: What was your opinion of Crazy Legs Burrow the opening
- 10:00Speaker 1: touchdown and run of the games?
- 10:01Speaker 2: Oh?
- 10:02Speaker 5: Man, it was good to see him over note like that.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Obviously he's not as athletic as some of the other
- 10:06Speaker 5: quarterbacks around the league, but shows he can stay for
- 10:09Speaker 5: OUTLM being all right, two.
- 10:11Speaker 1: And four, big road win tonight. Where does this put
- 10:14Speaker 1: the team going forward?
- 10:15Speaker 5: Oh, Niggers is a confidence. Obviously it's not where one.
- 10:18Speaker 5: We're still under five hundred, but we know what's in
- 10:20Speaker 5: front of us. An we got to take this one
- 10:23Speaker 5: win a grain of salt.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Enjoy it. Let'll be ready for a division game Sunday.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Congrats on a great win.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Offensively, the Bengals only scored on three out of ten
- 10:31Speaker 1: true possessions, and they coughed up a couple of fumbles,
- 10:34Speaker 1: including one that could have been devastating with a three
- 10:38Speaker 1: point lead in two minutes to go. Fortunately, Chase Brown's
- 10:42Speaker 1: fumble got knocked out of bounce, allowing the Bengals to
- 10:45Speaker 1: maintain possession, and on the next play he ran thirty
- 10:48Speaker 1: yards for the clinching td Congratulations on a great win tonight,
- 10:54Speaker 1: A win that you put the exclamation point on with
- 10:57Speaker 1: that thirty yard touchdown run at the end. How did
- 11:00Speaker 1: that one feel crossing it in the end zone?
- 11:02Speaker 6: Honestly, like, not as good as you would expect. I'm
- 11:05Speaker 6: not gonna lie.
- 11:06Speaker 7: We we just strive to be perfect. There's a lot
- 11:09Speaker 7: of preparation that goes in every single week. So I
- 11:12Speaker 7: mean the fumble right before that. You know, I'm glad that,
- 11:16Speaker 7: you know I could come back.
- 11:17Speaker 6: And respond, But I mean, at the end of the day,
- 11:21Speaker 6: we got to play a lot better than that, you
- 11:22Speaker 6: know what I mean. So I mean, I'm just glad
- 11:24Speaker 6: we're leaving with the win. But at the end of
- 11:26Speaker 6: the day, like messy and we'd rather it be much cleaner.
- 11:30Speaker 1: No, the touchdown came on the very next play in
- 11:34Speaker 1: your mind where you determined to do something just positive, just.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Just respond in a positive way.
- 11:40Speaker 6: I mean, rule number one, can't have fumbles at the
- 11:44Speaker 6: end of the game where you know, we're trying to
- 11:46Speaker 6: put points on the board and seal it.
- 11:48Speaker 2: So that's where my mind's at right now. But at
- 11:51Speaker 2: the end of the day, is a good win. Defense
- 11:53Speaker 2: played their ass off.
- 11:55Speaker 6: Offense, we did enough to put points on the board,
- 11:58Speaker 6: so obviously we're gonna come out next week motive to
- 12:00Speaker 6: do better.
- 12:01Speaker 1: As that ball was trickling out of bounds, did it
- 12:03Speaker 1: feel like it took forever too, Yeah.
- 12:06Speaker 6: I'll just try to punch it out out of bounds.
- 12:08Speaker 8: I'm like, just get out of get out of bounds.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I'm not going to say what I have to say that.
- 12:11Speaker 2: That's just whats on my mind.
- 12:13Speaker 1: So the offense has been cooking. It wasn't the case tonight,
- 12:16Speaker 1: but the defense came through with its best performance of
- 12:19Speaker 1: the year.
- 12:20Speaker 8: That's you know, that's that's what we need to do
- 12:23Speaker 8: to get the win today. But at the end of
- 12:25Speaker 8: the day, we're gonna have to play a lot better
- 12:27Speaker 8: to take out these division opponings, especially next week.
- 12:30Speaker 2: So you know, focus on Cleveland and let's get this
- 12:35Speaker 2: thing rolling.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Joe Burrow's forty seven yard touchdown run, longest of his career.
- 12:39Speaker 1: As he's streaking down the field, what'd you think he's gone,
- 12:43Speaker 1: He's gone.
- 12:43Speaker 2: He had space, Joe, Joe. I think Joe said he.
- 12:46Speaker 7: Was a sneaky athletic, but he's athletic and he's fast,
- 12:49Speaker 7: so I wasn't even surprised.
- 12:50Speaker 2: You just finished a good run.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Congrats and a nice win.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Thanks.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Round finished with ten carries for fifty three yards. Burrow
- 12:59Speaker 1: is actually the Bengal leading rusher with fifty five The
- 13:02Speaker 1: Bengals Booth Podcast is brought to you by pay Corps,
- 13:05Speaker 1: proud to be the Bengals official HR software provider by
- 13:09Speaker 1: Alta Fiber future Proof Fiber Internet designed to elevate your home, business,

- 13:16Speaker 1: the best care for the best fans. Kettering Health is
- 13:18Speaker 1: the official health care provider of the Bengals. Now, let's
- 13:22Speaker 1: hear from Zach Taylor as he spoke with Dave Lapham
- 13:25Speaker 1: after the game.
- 13:27Speaker 4: That wasn't easy. That's a damn good defensive football team
- 13:31Speaker 4: out there, men. Their front is legit.
- 13:33Speaker 9: Yeah, they lead the league in sacks, and we could
- 13:36Speaker 9: see it on tape. It shows up a little bit
- 13:39Speaker 9: more when you're there in person. They got great personnel.
- 13:41Speaker 9: They do a real good job playing together. Coordinator does
- 13:43Speaker 9: a good job. But I thought in the second half
- 13:45Speaker 9: of our offense rebounded the right way, you know, aside
- 13:48Speaker 9: from the turnover, We're able to drive the ball down
- 13:50Speaker 9: the field, gets to the one touchdown called back and
- 13:52Speaker 9: then and then go finish off with another touchdown.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Was good to see.
- 13:55Speaker 4: How big was it to get those two fourth down conversions?
- 13:58Speaker 4: They converted three. I mean, they're aggressive. It was four
- 14:00Speaker 4: down territory. It seemed like everywhere in any time during
- 14:03Speaker 4: the football game. But to get two like that, it's
- 14:06Speaker 4: like two takeaways. It's turnovers, you know.
- 14:08Speaker 9: So we got the hit and the pick, and then
- 14:10Speaker 9: we got two more on the turnovers and downs, and
- 14:13Speaker 9: really pleased with how our defense played. You know, it
- 14:15Speaker 9: was they did a great job keeping us in the
- 14:17Speaker 9: games that we could go finish it off on offense.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Third and eighteen, Joe Burrow runs for forty seven yard touchdown,
- 14:23Speaker 4: Third and twelve completion d Yosi for twenty nine yards
- 14:27Speaker 4: and then Chase has that thirty yard touchdown. You had
- 14:29Speaker 4: explosive plays, plays of twenty four yards and more, I
- 14:33Speaker 4: think by five different guys. It was a grind against
- 14:37Speaker 4: the Giants, but when you had to, those explosives showed
- 14:40Speaker 4: up with you, didn't they.
- 14:41Speaker 9: Yeah, grind doesn't begin to describe it. So but again,
- 14:45Speaker 9: we just guys, our superstars found ways to make plays
- 14:49Speaker 9: in really difficult situations. I thought our aligned did a
- 14:51Speaker 9: really good job holding up. I know, their sacks, and
- 14:55Speaker 9: they're always going to take the blame for that, That's
- 14:56Speaker 9: not always the case. That was on all of us
- 14:58Speaker 9: coaches and players, and uh, just just pleased with the
- 15:01Speaker 9: way they hung in there and made plays at the
- 15:03Speaker 9: right moments.
- 15:04Speaker 4: You know, it looked at times like their coverage was
- 15:06Speaker 4: really good. Were they doing anything coverage wise that wasn't anticipated.
- 15:09Speaker 4: I mean, it looked like they were playing some decent
- 15:11Speaker 4: zones mixing it up.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they mix it up, you know.
- 15:13Speaker 9: And that's again when you're not in a great rhythm
- 15:15Speaker 9: on second and four and second and three like we
- 15:17Speaker 9: have been over the season. We're more seconds to elevens and
- 15:19Speaker 9: twelves and they've got the advantage. And we got to
- 15:22Speaker 9: do a great job countering and just really struggled early
- 15:25Speaker 9: in the game to find a good rhythm to be
- 15:26Speaker 9: able to count that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: How about your defensive football team. I think they probably
- 15:29Speaker 4: had close to seventy snaps when all of a sudden done,
- 15:31Speaker 4: and I don't think they had three hundred yards offense
- 15:33Speaker 4: and seven points. I mean much Beligne defense stepped up
- 15:37Speaker 4: today any great.
- 15:37Speaker 9: I mean they kept the backs to three yards of carry.
- 15:39Speaker 9: I know Daniel Jones got fifty or sixty, but they
- 15:42Speaker 9: kept the backs to you know, about a three point
- 15:44Speaker 9: zero average. And you know, I thought they did a
- 15:47Speaker 9: good job in the past game overall, and so again
- 15:49Speaker 9: to get those three turnovers essentially holding the two miss
- 15:52Speaker 9: field goals. Really probably the way the defense played it.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Looked like you guys were attacking the bubble. You know
- 15:56Speaker 4: that that linebacker area a little bit looked like you
- 15:58Speaker 4: were pulling line in. Some tight ends were rolling in there.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Chase finally hit one, you know, up the gut there
- 16:03Speaker 4: on that bubble, and boy, I mean when he hits it,
- 16:05Speaker 4: man looks like his head's going to hit the goal post.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Well that's the way it goes.
- 16:09Speaker 9: You know, if you can if you can play with
- 16:10Speaker 9: the lead and be able to stick with some of those,
- 16:13Speaker 9: then eventually the dam breaks. And on that play, the
- 16:15Speaker 9: dam broke. And uh, that was a great adjustment by
- 16:17Speaker 9: Frank Pollock. That wasn't a plan we had a play
- 16:20Speaker 9: we had in the play this week. It's when we
- 16:21Speaker 9: carried in previous weeks and run a lot. But I
- 16:24Speaker 9: thought that was a great job by Frank, and the
- 16:25Speaker 9: players handled it the right way before the drive being
- 16:27Speaker 9: away that that was going to come up and executed
- 16:29Speaker 9: it really well.
- 16:30Speaker 4: So your defense, I mean, there was a sixteen play
- 16:33Speaker 4: seventy nine yard touchdown drive they had. The next possession
- 16:36Speaker 4: was like eleven plays. They missed a field goal, and
- 16:38Speaker 4: you know they started eating the clock up their third
- 16:41Speaker 4: in the NFL in time of possession. Their defense plays
- 16:44Speaker 4: you know, sound football. Their offense has that ability to
- 16:47Speaker 4: control the football. But I thought your team today showed
- 16:51Speaker 4: their condition their football conditioning.
- 16:53Speaker 9: Yeah, and not to mention they started the third half
- 16:56Speaker 9: the second half, got a turnover on downs and we
- 16:59Speaker 9: fumbled three plays later and they had to go back
- 17:01Speaker 9: out there again. So we just finished. You know, that
- 17:04Speaker 9: was what was borning in the fourth quarter. This football
- 17:07Speaker 9: team finished and that was good for us to see.
- 17:09Speaker 9: We needed that moment. I'm going forward.
- 17:10Speaker 4: Was that your mantra all week was that one of
- 17:12Speaker 4: the things that you guys talked about was finishing.
- 17:14Speaker 9: That's something well we always talk about that, you know.
- 17:16Speaker 9: And so again this is the NFL. Everybody knows you
- 17:18Speaker 9: got to be able to finish games. But just part
- 17:20Speaker 9: of the way, the guys stuck together this week and
- 17:21Speaker 9: found a way to get a big win on the
- 17:22Speaker 9: road in primetime.
- 17:24Speaker 4: So your offense has been playing well for a month.
- 17:26Speaker 4: I mean, this is a little bit of a blip,
- 17:28Speaker 4: but I mean I have every confidence in the world
- 17:29Speaker 4: that you know it's going to be fine. If your
- 17:32Speaker 4: defense continues to play like this, that complimentary football could
- 17:35Speaker 4: be very complimentary.
- 17:36Speaker 9: We know to have a team we have we just
- 17:37Speaker 9: got to go go show the world. We don't have
- 17:40Speaker 9: to prove it to ourselves. We know, and no better
- 17:42Speaker 9: opportunity than to go on the road and find a
- 17:44Speaker 9: way to get a division win.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Next week.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Is Joe okay? Borrow's okay?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Everything looks good.
- 17:49Speaker 4: Tell you man, he what's he run to forty? And
- 17:52Speaker 4: he was looking fast on that forty seven yard sprint.
- 17:54Speaker 4: I mean he got through that pile on and it
- 17:56Speaker 4: was pretty impressive. I mean the red seed parted literally.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I don't know if they had a sign I'm a breakdown,
- 18:00Speaker 4: but I mean there was nobody within sight.
- 18:02Speaker 9: This forty time is fast enough.
- 18:05Speaker 2: I hear that.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Giants quarterback Daniel Jones ran for fifty six yards. That's
- 18:10Speaker 1: one more than Borrow, but his passer rating was in
- 18:14Speaker 1: the fifties and his all time record in primetime games
- 18:17Speaker 1: fell to one and fourteen, including one and eleven at home.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Up next for the Bengals a road game in Cleveland
- 18:26Speaker 1: against the one in five Browns, who lost to Philadelphia
- 18:29Speaker 1: on Sunday twenty to sixteen. The Browns have not scored
- 18:33Speaker 1: twenty points or had two hundred passing yards in a
- 18:37Speaker 1: single game this season. Now time for the radio guys recap.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Lap.
- 18:44Speaker 1: The Bengals defense did exactly what Mike Hilton said they
- 18:47Speaker 1: needed to do. They upheld their end of the bargain
- 18:50Speaker 1: and more a great defensive performance tonight.
- 18:53Speaker 2: It really was.
- 18:53Speaker 4: I mean, you hold an NFL team to seven points,
- 18:56Speaker 4: that's remarkable. You got to win that football game, and
- 19:00Speaker 4: it looked dicey for a while, but they did get
- 19:03Speaker 4: that victory. But I'd say they probably ended up with
- 19:06Speaker 4: at least seventy snaps during the course of that football game,
- 19:09Speaker 4: and I'm not sure they had three hundred yards offense
- 19:11Speaker 4: and only seven points. So you know, defense bent but
- 19:15Speaker 4: didn't break. I mean, the impressive part of it was.
- 19:20Speaker 4: The impressive part of it was when you know, they
- 19:24Speaker 4: go on that sixteen play, seventy nine yeard touchdown drive
- 19:27Speaker 4: and the next drive is eleven plays and they end
- 19:30Speaker 4: up missing a field goal. But I mean that that
- 19:32Speaker 4: football conditioning deal is a big deal, and they stepped up.
- 19:36Speaker 4: They stepped up large and kept them out of the
- 19:39Speaker 4: end zone. I mean, Jones was a good athlete. He
- 19:42Speaker 4: made his share of plays, but I think the defense,
- 19:47Speaker 4: the offense obviously struggled against the New York Giants defense
- 19:50Speaker 4: and that defensive front. But I think they're going to
- 19:53Speaker 4: rebound and hopefully the Bengals defense will build off of
- 19:56Speaker 4: this and start playing that comproment in football that we've
- 19:59Speaker 4: gotten to see him in the Joe Burrow ear and
- 20:02Speaker 4: no more wasted efforts from Joe Burrow. The defense steps
- 20:05Speaker 4: up and they solidify those games and win it.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I thought it was BJ Hill's best game in the
- 20:09Speaker 1: Bengals uniform. I know you talked to him after the game.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Big deflection his college roommate intercepted inside the ten yard line,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and some other big plays as well for BJ.
- 20:19Speaker 4: No question, and I asked him about you know, I said,
- 20:22Speaker 4: you know you were drafted here in the third round
- 20:24Speaker 4: in twenty eighteen. Was it emotional?
- 20:27Speaker 2: He said, yeah.
- 20:27Speaker 4: I kind of had to control my emotions a little bit.
- 20:29Speaker 4: You know, I didn't want to. I'm thankful for the
- 20:32Speaker 4: opportunity that they gave me, but I didn't want to.
- 20:35Speaker 4: You know, I needed to compose myself and play under
- 20:39Speaker 4: control a little bit. But he gave a tremendous effort.
- 20:41Speaker 4: And I said, how many times do you think you
- 20:43Speaker 4: get held? I said, I saw at least three, because
- 20:46Speaker 4: me and they weren't calling anything out there, but he
- 20:49Speaker 4: thought I thought he was a huge factor. Trey Henderson
- 20:52Speaker 4: came off the edge for you know, a couple of
- 20:54Speaker 4: sacks as well that were big in the football game.
- 20:56Speaker 4: But I think on a snap by snap basis, bj
- 20:59Speaker 4: Hill was the guy that the charge.
- 21:01Speaker 1: For what it's worth, this officiating crew, with Carl Cheffer's
- 21:03Speaker 1: in charge, last in the NFL in penalties called per
- 21:07Speaker 1: game coming in, so no big surprise they didn't throw
- 21:11Speaker 1: a bunch of flags. Let's talk about the pass rush
- 21:14Speaker 1: for the Giants and the problems the Bengals had protecting
- 21:17Speaker 1: Joe Burrow. The Giants were number one in the NFL
- 21:19Speaker 1: coming in in sacks, so it's not like this was
- 21:22Speaker 1: an unusual experience for them. They won up front quite
- 21:27Speaker 1: a bit in this game.
- 21:27Speaker 4: Yeah, they did. I mean twenty two sacks in their
- 21:30Speaker 4: first you know, their first five football games and sixteen
- 21:34Speaker 4: in the last three. So you had this four twenty
- 21:36Speaker 4: in the last four games, I mean, averaging five sacks
- 21:38Speaker 4: of game. So it was kind of another day at
- 21:40Speaker 4: the office with what they were doing out there. At
- 21:42Speaker 4: the Bengals, they're very, very gifted with the way they
- 21:44Speaker 4: twist and the thing that I always used to struggle
- 21:49Speaker 4: with as a former offensive lineman, is when they are
- 21:51Speaker 4: real tight, you know, they the penetrator and the looper
- 21:55Speaker 4: doesn't you know, go out into the loopers just right
- 21:57Speaker 4: off his butt is tight, and that caused that causes problems.
- 22:01Speaker 4: I mean, there can you can get some penetration almost
- 22:03Speaker 4: from the looper as a result of that. And they
- 22:05Speaker 4: were really good at it. They do an unbelievable job
- 22:08Speaker 4: as rushers, and they got good rush off the edge
- 22:11Speaker 4: as well. I mean, you know, they they had more
- 22:14Speaker 4: than one person that was causing causing problems in the pocket,
- 22:17Speaker 4: and they were even though they were looping and stunning
- 22:19Speaker 4: and everything, they kept their lanes pretty pretty intact. And Joe,
- 22:23Speaker 4: you know, was trying to, you know, create an extent
- 22:26Speaker 4: and climb the pocket and do different kinds of things.
- 22:29Speaker 4: But I think the other part of it is that sometimes,
- 22:33Speaker 4: you know, when he wanted to get rid of the football,
- 22:35Speaker 4: there was nowhere to get rid of it. And they
- 22:37Speaker 4: were running some pretty good zone coverages. They were mixing
- 22:39Speaker 4: it up down there on the back end a little.
- 22:42Speaker 4: And uh so it was a challenge for the Bengals.
- 22:44Speaker 1: You said before the game, he thought there might be
- 22:46Speaker 1: opportunities for t Higgins to have a good game. You
- 22:48Speaker 1: were right. Seven targets, seven catches, seventy seven yards, A
- 22:51Speaker 1: lot of sevens came up lucky for T Higgins.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Usually after Jamara has a big game, the next opponent,
- 22:59Speaker 4: you know, go to some sort of a bracket coverage
- 23:02Speaker 4: or cloud coverage or whatever you want to call it.
- 23:05Speaker 4: You know, they'll have a corner with a safety over
- 23:07Speaker 4: the top and maybe you know, Buzz the linebacker underneath
- 23:10Speaker 4: with a corner. They'll they'll change things up. And they
- 23:14Speaker 4: were moving Jamar around and even had him in the
- 23:16Speaker 4: backfield some a little shovel pac that he had. Try
- 23:20Speaker 4: to get him the football any any way you can still,
- 23:23Speaker 4: you know, that's that's the thing. If they're going to
- 23:25Speaker 4: do that with Jamar, they have to deal with Tea
- 23:28Speaker 4: And if you can hold up in man coverage, god
- 23:30Speaker 4: bless you, but he's going to make some plays on you.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Joe has described himself, Joe Burrow that is, as sneaky
- 23:35Speaker 1: athletic in the past. He was more than sneaky on
- 23:38Speaker 1: that first forty seven yard touchdown drive. It's the longest
- 23:41Speaker 1: of his career.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that run was incredible, and it was
- 23:45Speaker 4: you know, he just saw the thing open up. You know,
- 23:47Speaker 4: it wasn't a quarterback draw. It was, you know, just
- 23:52Speaker 4: he saw an opportunity to get up the football field
- 23:55Speaker 4: and get it done. And I think once he broke
- 23:57Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage, I think he was probably like,
- 23:59Speaker 4: oh my god, and I can't believe. And there had
- 24:02Speaker 4: to be some sort of a breakdown somewhere. Somebody ended
- 24:05Speaker 4: up two guys ended up doubling one receiver and left
- 24:07Speaker 4: a gaping, you know, cavity that Joe took advantage of
- 24:11Speaker 4: or some such thing. I'd have to have to take
- 24:13Speaker 4: a look at the at the tape of it. But
- 24:15Speaker 4: it was impressive. And I asked, Zach, you know, what's
- 24:19Speaker 4: Joe's forty times? And he goes fast enough? And it
- 24:22Speaker 4: certainly was. I mean, get inside that pieline is a
- 24:25Speaker 4: huge play.
- 24:25Speaker 2: All right.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Put the win in perspective two and four with a
- 24:28Speaker 1: road game at Cleveland coming up.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Yeah, and can get a division win. Climbed to three
- 24:34Speaker 4: and four, and you know, and then all of a sudden,
- 24:37Speaker 4: you're not You're not in the dregs anymore. You're starting
- 24:41Speaker 4: to climb your way out of a little bit of
- 24:42Speaker 4: a hole that you dug if you had not gotten
- 24:45Speaker 4: this done and go one and five, that that would
- 24:48Speaker 4: have been almost ridiculously hard to dig your way out of.
- 24:51Speaker 4: But I think this football team has enough talent, enough grit,
- 24:58Speaker 4: and enough poise and everything, and it takes to one
- 25:01Speaker 4: game at a time to make a little run and
- 25:03Speaker 4: get back where they need to be.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Here's an invitation to join lapp in me for the
- 25:08Speaker 1: Bengals Game Plan show on Wednesday night. We'll be at
- 25:11Speaker 1: the Anderson Township Pub from six to eight and Ted
- 25:15Speaker 1: Garris's schedule to join us in the first hour. If
- 25:18Speaker 1: you can't make it, you can listen on ESPN fifteen
- 25:21Speaker 1: thirty or search for ESPN fifteen thirty on the free
- 25:26Speaker 1: iHeartMedia app. Finally, it's time for this week's fun Fact segment,
- 25:31Speaker 1: where you get to know the person under the pads.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Time for some fun facts with defensive tackle Lawrence Guy.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I want to start with your grandfather. There's an elementary
- 25:42Speaker 1: school in your hometown of Las Vegas named for your grandfather.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Tell us about his life and legacy.
- 25:49Speaker 10: He was a great man who was first appointed African
- 25:52Speaker 10: American judge in Nevada, did a lot of stuff for
- 25:56Speaker 10: the community. And through his life. He was in the
- 26:03Speaker 10: Korean more as an army ranger. He was in a
- 26:06Speaker 10: coast guard before that. Then he was head of the
- 26:11Speaker 10: National Guard. Once he got into Las Vegas and became
- 26:14Speaker 10: a judge, and his legacy was more than what he
- 26:18Speaker 10: did in the courtroom. More what he did in the community,
- 26:21Speaker 10: built in people, making sure that everybody was treated equally,
- 26:25Speaker 10: and that is known throughout the historical Las Vegas area
- 26:29Speaker 10: where they celebrate those figures from the past. His legacy
- 26:34Speaker 10: is so big, it's more than I could say, but
- 26:37Speaker 10: it lived strong today. My brother is a lawyer and
- 26:40Speaker 10: down in Las Vegas and he hears so much more
- 26:44Speaker 10: of how great a man that the we called the
- 26:47Speaker 10: Judge was, And every single day it's something new popman
- 26:51Speaker 10: up here, like we just didn't know because you know,
- 26:53Speaker 10: as a family man, you could get the one side
- 26:56Speaker 10: of it. You don't get see behind the scenes of
- 26:59Speaker 10: what he impact on people's lives throughout the community.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I've read that his motto was I can and I will,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and you have taken those words to heart. As a kid,
- 27:10Speaker 1: you had learning challenges, including dyslexia. Kids can be cruel
- 27:15Speaker 1: how difficult was it for you?
- 27:18Speaker 10: I didn't know. I just actually tast twenty one, so
- 27:21Speaker 10: you just had to figure out different ways of learning
- 27:23Speaker 10: at that time. There wasn't heavy testing back then, especially
- 27:28Speaker 10: where I was, so it's taking the challenges as they were.
- 27:32Speaker 10: But I had a great support system with my family.
- 27:35Speaker 10: My dad was very big involved in that. He read
- 27:38Speaker 10: I'm here today is because of him. Reason I got
- 27:40Speaker 10: I was in college and continue to do that because
- 27:42Speaker 10: of him and effort he put into it. Like I said,
- 27:45Speaker 10: back in the early nineties, nobody really wanted to discuss
- 27:47Speaker 10: and he was head on on at and it says
- 27:50Speaker 10: from near it was a lot of tutors at, a
- 27:53Speaker 10: lot of people helping, from teachers making sure I was
- 27:56Speaker 10: picking it up because everyone learns a different way. And
- 27:59Speaker 10: if we and known back then that had dyslexia probably
- 28:02Speaker 10: been a little bit easier. But as the process went
- 28:06Speaker 10: on through middle elementary, middle school, and high school, it
- 28:09Speaker 10: got better and better and better. So by the time
- 28:11Speaker 10: I understood that I had dyslexia, it's like, okay, it
- 28:15Speaker 10: makes sense now, you know when the words jump here
- 28:18Speaker 10: and there, But I've never matter asked them. My brother
- 28:22Speaker 10: was asking me one day I would tall a couple
- 28:24Speaker 10: of years ago, he said, how does it? How is
- 28:26Speaker 10: it having? I just don't pay attention to it, like
- 28:29Speaker 10: everything normal to me. So he said something I wanted
- 28:32Speaker 10: to know. But I give hope to people that have
- 28:36Speaker 10: This challenge is not a disease. It's not something to
- 28:40Speaker 10: drop your head about it. It's something. Yeah, it might
- 28:42Speaker 10: take a little bit longer to read a book. Three
- 28:45Speaker 10: test messages. I learned to embrace what it is. And
- 28:48Speaker 10: and when I hear story from parents or young adults,
- 28:53Speaker 10: asked me how that I got through, And I was like,
- 28:55Speaker 10: is this a challenge? It that you have to take on?
- 28:58Speaker 10: The whole thing of giving up it should never be there.
- 29:03Speaker 10: You could do anything you put your mind to. And
- 29:05Speaker 10: that's just one aspect of it.
- 29:07Speaker 1: You mentioned your dad. He was a firefighter for more
- 29:10Speaker 1: than two decades, obviously a dangerous and heroic line of work.
- 29:14Speaker 1: How did his example shape you?
- 29:17Speaker 10: He just made sure that we did the right thing,
- 29:19Speaker 10: and he had a great example himself. We come from
- 29:23Speaker 10: a military background. My uncle's an army rager, my grandpa's
- 29:27Speaker 10: arm rager. His father was an army His father was
- 29:30Speaker 10: a police officer, So it comes down from history from
- 29:33Speaker 10: my grandmother who worked in the school district. We just
- 29:36Speaker 10: had a good model what we should do. But when
- 29:40Speaker 10: you look at him and you look at first responders
- 29:43Speaker 10: in the whole aspect of it, they riscialized every single
- 29:46Speaker 10: day and not knowing they're going to come home to
- 29:47Speaker 10: their families. And when you grew up with something like that,
- 29:50Speaker 10: you understand the risk that he was taking for others.
- 29:53Speaker 10: So when you look into how you should be like,
- 29:57Speaker 10: you should grow into a way that respect you for
- 30:01Speaker 10: what you do and how you accomplish yourself and how
- 30:03Speaker 10: you move around in life. And I think he challenged
- 30:07Speaker 10: us when we was younger, especially when we were in
- 30:09Speaker 10: high school, to do more and do better. That's when
- 30:12Speaker 10: we initially started a turkey drive because he went on
- 30:16Speaker 10: a call, I want to say, on Christmas Eve and
- 30:20Speaker 10: the family lost everything, and he went to the local
- 30:23Speaker 10: Soulbot gifts by the turkey and everything, gave it to
- 30:25Speaker 10: them and say, hey, I know you lost everything, here
- 30:27Speaker 10: you go, and it was probably the biggest thing. And
- 30:29Speaker 10: then from there on it kind of built through the
- 30:31Speaker 10: family that this is what we're going to do, and
- 30:33Speaker 10: we did every year with him, and I kind of
- 30:35Speaker 10: took over from there when I got into college and
- 30:37Speaker 10: to do it by myself. But he was an example
- 30:39Speaker 10: of always caring about others around him, knowing that he
- 30:43Speaker 10: had his own personal stuff going on. But it's always
- 30:46Speaker 10: a help in hand to put it out there. It's
- 30:49Speaker 10: never a hope hand. We see somebody struggling to his
- 30:51Speaker 10: walk away, and now we're built. You built to be kind,
- 30:57Speaker 10: he built to care about people.
- 30:59Speaker 1: So he helped the fan that lost their home, and
- 31:02Speaker 1: you've been doing that ever since from that example.
- 31:05Speaker 10: Yes, that's how it literally started from there. Then every
- 31:09Speaker 10: single year from there on Thanksgiving, I made sure that
- 31:13Speaker 10: I helped people out. And I was think in college
- 31:15Speaker 10: you started with like five to ten people buying full
- 31:18Speaker 10: mills for everybody on Thanksgiving, and then once I got into
- 31:22Speaker 10: the NFL, it kind of just grew from there, you know.
- 31:25Speaker 10: Then the five families came to one hundred families, came
- 31:28Speaker 10: to five hundred families, and it came to Thanksgiving, and
- 31:32Speaker 10: then it went to Christmas. Then they want to get
- 31:34Speaker 10: back to schools. So it kind of just kind of
- 31:37Speaker 10: developed to itself to what meant a lot to me.
- 31:41Speaker 10: And I think every single year I opened my house
- 31:44Speaker 10: up for any of my teammates that didn't have a
- 31:48Speaker 10: place to go, because like, in my mind, I always
- 31:52Speaker 10: wanted to make sure that somebody had food on the
- 31:54Speaker 10: table and a family to be around.
- 31:57Speaker 1: We're visiting with Lawrence. Guy. When did you become hooked
- 32:01Speaker 1: on football? And when did you start to stand out
- 32:04Speaker 1: among your peers.
- 32:05Speaker 10: I'll be honest with you. My brother I got two
- 32:08Speaker 10: brothers and we're both older. And one of my brothers there,
- 32:13Speaker 10: he's like two years apart from me. He was like,
- 32:16Speaker 10: hey man, he said, He said, you're here, like, I
- 32:19Speaker 10: won't play out of the school. You want to join me?
- 32:22Speaker 10: That's cool if you don't even take the bus? And
- 32:24Speaker 10: I like, well, I got nothing else to do what
- 32:26Speaker 10: this dude is And from there I said, like I
- 32:30Speaker 10: kind of do this. I liked it. Then I went
- 32:32Speaker 10: too wrestling, and I went to track. I feel was
- 32:33Speaker 10: doing track. Then they developed from there and he developed
- 32:37Speaker 10: that passion. I wasn't the pop wanter kid, I said,
- 32:41Speaker 10: but no, I didn't really do pop wanter, but it
- 32:44Speaker 10: was when in high school. I love this, the sportsmanship,
- 32:48Speaker 10: I love the brotherhood that you build on that field
- 32:51Speaker 10: and nothing like it. And from there it kind of
- 32:54Speaker 10: took off. And I want to say, I didn't really
- 32:57Speaker 10: know I stood out from my peers, and I want
- 32:59Speaker 10: to say until junior year and somebody told me. They
- 33:03Speaker 10: told me there ranking in the state, and I had
- 33:04Speaker 10: no idea, and I was like, okay, cool. And then
- 33:07Speaker 10: I just kept in there and it's kept going and
- 33:09Speaker 10: going because it's not about where you're ranked at. It's
- 33:11Speaker 10: about the challenge and getting better every single day and
- 33:15Speaker 10: competing with the people next to you and having that
- 33:18Speaker 10: good time in building that relationships.
- 33:20Speaker 1: You played college football at Arizona State, where your teammates
- 33:23Speaker 1: included former Bengal von Tees Berfect, who had seven mostly
- 33:27Speaker 1: good years in Cincinnati. What was he like as a
- 33:30Speaker 1: college teammate.
- 33:31Speaker 10: It was awesome. Ye what I'm saying it was Tests.
- 33:35Speaker 10: I can't say nothing bad about Tests. I love the
- 33:37Speaker 10: way they played. We had a great run Mee and
- 33:41Speaker 10: him at that school, even to the play into the NFL.
- 33:45Speaker 10: You look at the story and how he came in,
- 33:47Speaker 10: what he was able to do. He's a heck of
- 33:50Speaker 10: a player. He can't take no credit for away from
- 33:53Speaker 10: what he was able to do in this league. How impressive.
- 33:56Speaker 10: If he was in the passion. He asked, what it
- 33:58Speaker 10: especially when it comes to College's like, it's the same
- 34:00Speaker 10: effort that he had in NFL that he did in college,
- 34:03Speaker 10: and it's very impressive to see and to see the
- 34:05Speaker 10: growth of every single year. Kind of was he was
- 34:10Speaker 10: still playing, but you know, circumcessions happened by he was
- 34:13Speaker 10: a great teammate even off the field. Very quiet, but
- 34:16Speaker 10: such a great person to be around.
- 34:18Speaker 1: We're visiting with Lawrence Guy. This is your fourteenth NFL season.
- 34:22Speaker 1: The bulk of your career has been spent with the
- 34:25Speaker 1: New England Patriots, where you played in two Super Bowls
- 34:27Speaker 1: and one to one beating the Rams in Super Bowl
- 34:29Speaker 1: fifty three. You were named to the Patriots All Decade
- 34:32Speaker 1: Team for the twenty tens. What did you enjoy most
- 34:36Speaker 1: about your time in Foxborough?
- 34:40Speaker 10: Well, one, you know, it's always amazing to get opportunity
- 34:45Speaker 10: to play for that team. Leaving Baltimore, they gave him
- 34:50Speaker 10: an opportunity to play, and it was amazing where I
- 34:53Speaker 10: went from from leaving Maryland and going there and where
- 34:57Speaker 10: my talent is exploded. There an opportunity that gave me.
- 35:01Speaker 10: But it was it was enjoying. I built so much
- 35:03Speaker 10: lifetime friendships on that team, the sparings of being coached
- 35:08Speaker 10: by Bill Belichick, Matt Patricia, like I cherished the moments
- 35:13Speaker 10: every single day, had four kids there. You know, my
- 35:18Speaker 10: daughter was born there, so she seven years that we
- 35:21Speaker 10: just grew and then like I said, they built built
- 35:24Speaker 10: lifetime friendships there. But understanding that mixture of it. If
- 35:29Speaker 10: you know Boston, if you know how the culture was there,
- 35:32Speaker 10: it was football and everything, but it wasn't just more
- 35:35Speaker 10: than that field and the friendships I built on a field,
- 35:38Speaker 10: the chemistry the super Bowl is more more than the community.
- 35:44Speaker 10: The community backed me one hundred percent on everything I
- 35:47Speaker 10: wanted to do, especially the accumulations and mister Kraft and
- 35:51Speaker 10: what they helped me do, build my foundation and help
- 35:54Speaker 10: me with venues to every event that I had. It's
- 35:58Speaker 10: a blessing that he experience that I tell people all
- 36:02Speaker 10: the time, and you could tear the just of a
- 36:06Speaker 10: person by what they do. And mits Prats donated twenty
- 36:12Speaker 10: thousand dollars in me in May well before we parted
- 36:15Speaker 10: with with that team. But I never forget the memories.
- 36:19Speaker 10: I never forget that the passion that we put on
- 36:21Speaker 10: the field. Like I said, a lot of time franchis
- 36:23Speaker 10: we put out there. It's always unique. Every single year,
- 36:26Speaker 10: every single team has its own unique dynamic, and I
- 36:29Speaker 10: chased every one of them.
- 36:31Speaker 1: They signed you as a free agent and then gave
- 36:33Speaker 1: you a contract extension, which suggests how much Bill Belichick
- 36:37Speaker 1: believed in you. What did you do to earn his respect?
- 36:41Speaker 10: You just work hard, You just do I think it's
- 36:43Speaker 10: it's Selegan going to do your job. That's what that's
- 36:45Speaker 10: what I did. I did my job. I did the
- 36:47Speaker 10: best I could help mentor the gun guys. And I said,
- 36:50Speaker 10: I worked in the community what she was supposed to do,
- 36:54Speaker 10: Like I don't have all the thou off the field
- 36:56Speaker 10: and takes houses. Enjoying the game, and that's what Bill
- 37:00Speaker 10: up he loved. If you enjoy the game, respect the game,
- 37:03Speaker 10: and you put the work in. Whatever you put in
- 37:05Speaker 10: this game, but you're gonna get out of it and
- 37:08Speaker 10: the show there.
- 37:09Speaker 1: What's your favorite Tom Brady memory?
- 37:13Speaker 10: Oh, man, I want said the super Bowl. This is
- 37:18Speaker 10: him just going over there and we just won the
- 37:20Speaker 10: super Bowl. There's so many memories of him and so
- 37:22Speaker 10: many stuff just going to leave hilone. But Tom was
- 37:24Speaker 10: a great guy. Like Tom Gronk, Jewels, Danny Amadell. They're
- 37:29Speaker 10: all amazing people. I can't I can't say nothing bad
- 37:32Speaker 10: about them, had great memories with them.
- 37:35Speaker 1: All right, some wild card topics. Now to wrap things
- 37:38Speaker 1: up with Lawrence guy, who's your all time favorite athlete
- 37:41Speaker 1: in any sport?
- 37:43Speaker 10: And why Kobe like Kobe did so much in the
- 37:46Speaker 10: in the game. Let's be real, when you shoot a shot,
- 37:51Speaker 10: retire most people like not even to send the time
- 37:53Speaker 10: people saying Kobe, like your legacy can't be better than that?
- 37:57Speaker 10: When when somebody thing Kobe, when you shoot a shot
- 37:59Speaker 10: every single time.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Most people listening to this are familiar with the elf
- 38:04Speaker 1: on the shelf. You have apparently brought that into NFL
- 38:08Speaker 1: locker rooms.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Correct, Yes, I did it.
- 38:11Speaker 10: For it from years hiding the elf on the shelf
- 38:13Speaker 10: and in the locker room it went. It went from
- 38:18Speaker 10: one gesture to another, then it is continued and continued.
- 38:22Speaker 10: Nobody knew it was me. It was a thing. Nobody
- 38:25Speaker 10: had no idea until the media came along and they
- 38:31Speaker 10: and they kind of spoiled it for me. And I
- 38:33Speaker 10: could tell you. Bill looked at me like, I'm like, alright, cool,
- 38:38Speaker 10: I'm gonna to slow it down on that phe But yeah,
- 38:40Speaker 10: I did everything the year we hit it every year
- 38:42Speaker 10: with a fun gesture. You know, we we come in
- 38:45Speaker 10: here so much and it worked so hard. And the
- 38:48Speaker 10: thing that belief is something so small. If adjust there,
- 38:53Speaker 10: it could make somebody happy and laugh. And it came
- 38:55Speaker 10: in like a whole thing. Me and the equipment went
- 38:57Speaker 10: all into it. And see them tamates they stole to
- 39:01Speaker 10: el then brought more l So it came fun in
- 39:05Speaker 10: an environment that was very You know, it's hard to
- 39:08Speaker 10: play in an NFL, so it's a lot of exhausting.
- 39:11Speaker 10: So at that time of the year, when something so
- 39:13Speaker 10: small is so happy, it's amazing.
- 39:15Speaker 1: I don't know if any of your teammates will hear
- 39:17Speaker 1: this interview, So might the elf in the shelf be
- 39:20Speaker 1: introduced to the Bengals locker room when we hit that
- 39:22Speaker 1: time of year.
- 39:24Speaker 10: I pleaded a fifth on that with this elf, I
- 39:26Speaker 10: plead a fifth.
- 39:28Speaker 1: All right, your secret is safe with us. You have
- 39:30Speaker 1: a gigantic tattoo of a lion on your back, just
- 39:34Speaker 1: a cool design or is their personal meeting?
- 39:39Speaker 10: I had another tattoo there and my oldest start didn't
- 39:42Speaker 10: like it. She flat out told me she was like, Daddy,
- 39:45Speaker 10: I don't like a tattoo. And I said, all right,
- 39:47Speaker 10: I'll give it. I get it covered up, and I covered.
- 39:51Speaker 4: Up with the lion.
- 39:53Speaker 10: This is a sentimental thing, you know, courage and bravery.
- 39:57Speaker 10: But I probably would have kept their original one and
- 40:00Speaker 10: probably try to get it fixed more than it was.
- 40:02Speaker 10: But my oldest when she said it, it got to
- 40:06Speaker 10: be done. And I remember talking to one of my teammates,
- 40:08Speaker 10: teachers Whise. I was like, hey, man, I said, my
- 40:11Speaker 10: daughter just told me she didn't like my tattoo. And
- 40:13Speaker 10: he's like, oh really. Then two years later I got
- 40:16Speaker 10: it covered. He'd like, I had a feeling you're going
- 40:17Speaker 10: and get a cover. He said, you've been like I
- 40:19Speaker 10: was in year ten, like it's been so long you
- 40:22Speaker 10: had it. And I did it for her, and be
- 40:24Speaker 10: honest with that, I covered it for her because she
- 40:26Speaker 10: said this was a lot better than the one before.
- 40:30Speaker 10: I also had the tattoo on my arm and she
- 40:31Speaker 10: didn't like that. She she sat there for a whole
- 40:35Speaker 10: summer with water and tower try to rub it off.
- 40:38Speaker 10: You can't really see no more because of the sun
- 40:39Speaker 10: and faded. But she I don't like it no more.
- 40:42Speaker 10: Then she told me not to get no more.
- 40:44Speaker 1: You're from Las Vegas, one of the most popular tourist
- 40:48Speaker 1: destinations in the world. What's your favorite thing about home.
- 40:53Speaker 10: And the atmosphere of it?
- 40:54Speaker 4: The lights?
- 40:55Speaker 10: I think that ready says, when you get there, how
- 40:58Speaker 10: do you speak? You'd see the lights from the airplane.
- 41:01Speaker 10: It's amazing feeling, you that warming feeling. But families there.
- 41:05Speaker 10: I got a lot of families so there, so it's
- 41:07Speaker 10: always good to see them. It's always good to see
- 41:10Speaker 10: the new attractions. People always wanted what they do there.
- 41:13Speaker 10: There's so many shows. There's so many attractions. I've never
- 41:16Speaker 10: My mom worked for the Stratosphere, so we used to
- 41:18Speaker 10: go to the stratifair shows once a year and it's
- 41:21Speaker 10: amazing feeling.
- 41:23Speaker 4: Then.
- 41:23Speaker 10: The best thing about that is for the fourth of July,
- 41:27Speaker 10: every hotel half hour short show. When I was younger,
- 41:30Speaker 10: they don't do it no more, but every single one
- 41:32Speaker 10: you get to see him. It's flying off, he's sat
- 41:34Speaker 10: on the roof and you really have to do nothing
- 41:36Speaker 10: to see him going. It was amazing feeling, all right.
- 41:39Speaker 1: Final fun fact for Lawrence Guy. This one's kind of deep.
- 41:42Speaker 1: If you could meet anybody in history, living or deceased.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Who would that person.
- 41:48Speaker 10: Be Alexander the Great?
- 41:53Speaker 6: Then?
- 41:54Speaker 4: Like why?
- 41:54Speaker 10: Like because you have to think about it. He conquered
- 41:57Speaker 10: so much and to this day that he's still a mystery.
- 42:02Speaker 10: You know, people still trying to figure out who he
- 42:04Speaker 10: was as a real person, not the just a legend.
- 42:07Speaker 10: And that's one of the things that I'd love to
- 42:10Speaker 10: see me by. Okay, let's break it down. You know,
- 42:13Speaker 10: the mystery of it. Why did you do it? How'd
- 42:16Speaker 10: you do it? What you learn from your travels, what
- 42:19Speaker 10: you learn from the anxious of those places that you conquered.
- 42:24Speaker 1: A great answer, Lawrence, Guy, This has been fun. Appreciate
- 42:28Speaker 1: your time. Thank you very much.
- 42:29Speaker 10: Appreciate you.
