- Mel: Hey there, welcome back to Six Figure Chicks Podcast. I'm delighted because today I'm joined by a fellow Six Figure Chicks author, Marisa Maggio Harrelson. I love that the book is right there. Marisa: Of course. I love these stories. Hi, Mel. Mel: welcome. Why don't you share with the audience a little bit about you and your ⁓ your ⁓ self? Marisa: ⁓ my goodness. How many hours do you have? No, I'm just kidding. know, ⁓ I'm Marisa. I'm in Phoenix, Arizona, ⁓ I'm a mom. I'm a wife. I, ⁓ know, love life. I love health, ⁓ I music and ⁓ ⁓ y teach I teach breath work, meditation, I have a very high me and the very Nita channel me. kind of personality. So that's where the yoga and the breath work and meditation all come in. And my kids are in their twenties now ⁓ ⁓ they're we are ⁓ officially empty nesters except for a fur dog. And just life is really good. I'm loving this new stage of my life. ⁓ It's ⁓ really good. Mel: I love that. Marisa: ⁓ all health and wellness. I have a health and wellness business as well. ⁓ Mel: Yes, yes. So we'll we'll dive into that in just a minute. But I was gonna say that, you know, we had the honor, me and a few of the other authors had an honor of being in the room with you while you did the the breath bowl work and that was an amazing afternoon. Thank you. ⁓ so relaxing. Now they're turning it into a golf simulator ⁓ Marisa: ⁓ really? Yeah. Mel: I'm like, what happened to our yoga studio? Marisa: more yoga studio. Well I know where you can go, so I can tell you. Mel: Okay, wonderful. So let's let's start it off with ⁓ you know, the fun fact because you are just a yeah, when you're on you're a bundle of energy and lots of fun. So what's a fun fact that not a lot of people know about you? Marisa: I always say that ⁓ I have been on all seven continents, Antarctica, and even been, if you might have heard of Timbuktu, ⁓ it exists. I was there years ago. This is a lifetime ago, but ⁓ that's ⁓ Mali in Africa. Yeah. Mel: Wow. So what's your favorite consonant if you don't have to say like, you know, hear your home? Marisa: tell you I think really Africa is my favorite continent visiting. I mean all the world is so beautiful and and and that can learn so much. ⁓ But I've been to Africa four times. east, ⁓ ⁓ ⁓ and south and was there even last year ⁓ on safari which was incredible. I've been on a couple safaris and it just has a magnetism like I've not experienced like the the energy that you feel from Mama Earth. just feels like ⁓ is where, you ⁓ life It just I that's how I feel and and it's just an interesting, fascinating place. every country different of course. ⁓ but I really love I really love that place. Mel: Love that. that recharges you for running your successful businesses. so then let's talk about kind of maybe a challenge that you've had to face in business and how you overcame them. Marisa: I think, you know, so my background is I worked in television news. I was a journalist for almost twenty years and and I love that. And, you know, talking to people was natural to me but also became very difficult at times because asking people to share their story ⁓ when there's lots of pain there and we're supposed to get the story ⁓ you know, sometimes didn't feel aligned with my heart and soul. So I love what I do today, fast forward, new life, more mature life. I love what I do and and my greatest challenge I would say And I I'm in network marketing and I love what I do in my health and wellness business and I knew nothing of network marketing when I joined ⁓ the biggest challenge was that people had a ⁓ a stigma ⁓ it ⁓ and I was like why? when I joined, ⁓ I knew nothing about this industry. I was I don't wanna say ignorant on fire, I was innocent on fire. And I started I got yeses, but then I got these no's and then people saying, You're doing one of those things and I'm like, What are you talking about? I was so naive. ⁓ I would call my my mentors and I'm like, I ⁓ happening? And they're like, just go, just keep going. And then then I would just ⁓ you know, ⁓ think it just ⁓ helping people get past that stigma. It is such a beautiful business model and I found that most people have no idea what they're talking about when they say that. to be honest with you. They have no idea what you most of the time I'll say, ⁓ wow, sounds like there's a story there. What what do you mean? And they're like, Well I don't know. ⁓ You know, like one of those pyramid things and you're like, what do you mean? Like corporate America where the CEO makes all the money at the top and everybody else makes little bit here and will never make as much as this? No. Our business, everybody starts here. We start at the bottom and we build wide and we build deep. ⁓ We can make a lot more than even people that brought us into the business. It it's up to us. We're the CEOs. So the challenge was getting over the stigma. The challenge, there's lots of challenges in this. this business, ⁓ love it. It's beautiful personal growth and development business. And ⁓ ⁓ it will you how to have skin thicker than wet toilet paper. Mel: love that. Marisa: and I just ⁓ and it really teaches you how to connect with people, truly learn how to listen to people, connect with people, find people's pain, offer a solution, whether it's through product or opportunity, and to help people create a life on their terms. That's ⁓ so ⁓ just having that belief, overcoming that challenge ⁓ is really diving into ⁓ personal growth into the Belief and understanding this industry, getting knowledgeable about this industry that pays more than the NFL and the music industry combined. Mel: love money. ⁓ Marisa: Money loves me. Mel: Love that. And you said that the other day. I was like, yes, I then that's that's also one of those things that we feel ⁓ afraid to be judged. ⁓ you know we talk about money, we like money outwardly, like we say it. People are gonna look at us like, whoa, what is she talking about? Marisa: You know, like Right. And and people, you know, another challenge I gotta tell you is ⁓ being that I'm in the yoga world and then I have this, but they also align very beautifully together, health and wellness and then people I meet in yoga, I don't I don't like just you know ⁓ hone in on everybody, but it's it aligns with the people that I'm in align with alignment with in my life, you know, and people that are into health and wellness and people that want to feel better. so that was a challenge though to to understand that ⁓ those two can go together and sometimes people didn't think that they would. It's over just overcoming judgment. And we're all being judged, so you might as well give ⁓ something to judge about. Mel: Yes, and we talk about that a lot in the books, you know, ⁓ because that's something that we all have faced at one time of like fear of judgment, giving judgment, like it's just human nature and to be okay with it, that's where you can really grow and just not let other people hold you back. Marisa: To be on It doesn't give a rat's you know what others think. People are gonna think what they wanna think and really when they're talking they're just intrigued by what you're doing. They're like, what is she doing? How has she built this over the years? Like I can remember selling my first bottle of of my product, right? And I was thrilled. And that was the beginning. Like that's just like you don't even see the future of what you're getting ready to create. To be to create a six-figure multi-million dollar business over the years really ⁓ and and you know what it's not about me. It was about everybody I help achieve what they want to achieve. Because in this industry, you're only as successful as the people you help. So I am fueled by science, I'm fueled by products that activate and I'm fueled by community that is life minded and like minded. to me, you know, we all have to have our tribe, right? We have to find our tribe. ⁓ I love being around people that help help elevate. You know, six figure chicks community, ⁓ Eat Women Network community, ⁓ Life Fantage community, all of the things, my yoga community, it I feel so blessed. Like to be around people that are Really awesome. really challenging. ⁓ Mel: Yeah. And so with the six figure chicks, like how has that experience been and how have you blended it and leveraged it to continue to grow? Marisa: Yeah. Well, ⁓ it's made me more confident. know, at first I was little nervous about writing a story writing a chapter in this book ⁓ and I because I to work through, well, I'm not People gonna think I'm bragging. That's you know, there's that imposter syndrome that still still comes to me on my shoulder and I have to talk to myself and understand. No, these are women, amazing women that I've met, you Mel, helping us feel like, you know, it's okay. It's okay to be powerful. It is okay to stop playing small. Who we to play small? It is Not up to us to play small. It's up to us to live a big life and to share that with others. And you know, I'm a joyful person. And I came from a lot of in my life. And I came from a lack of abundance mindset. I grew up around that. And our relationship with money. starts really as as we are young, right? And so, this book, this movement allowing me to just feel free to give me permission to own what I've been able to create over the years and to be pretty damn proud about that. Mel: Yes, it should be. Yeah. And so yes, speaking about the young people that, you know, hopefully your story's empowering so many. What would you tell your younger self today? Marisa: I would say you know get dirty, play in the mud, you know. ⁓ at times, ⁓ but go for what it is that you want to go for and don't worry about the other people. If I could just really tell you that because They're not going to be influential in your life. going to find the circle of people, the circle of influence ⁓ you need when you say yes to something that lights you up. Let something you up. I would say to my f younger self, you know, don't let opinions take you away your goals. And you know, certain things will stay with you that people say to you when you're younger. I can remember someone telling me when I was I grew up in theater, ⁓ and I was doing a film, I was probably twelve years old and I was part of a educational group, it was for PBS. And we were shooting it was called a poem like me, and I'll never forget one of the guys that I looked up to, but I was younger and they didn't take me seriously. I got one line to speak. And I was all nervous and you could tell and he was like, Don't be mechanical, Marisa. And I've remembered that. Isn't that funny? Like I remembered that and s it in what did that mean? It meant, you know, be yourself. F for me it just meant I needed to be myself. I didn't understand that. That's what I needed to do at that time, but I do understand that now. But it that stayed with me and that was kind of a funky thing for somebody to say. They could have said, ⁓ it's okay, you know, you're gonna do great. Breathe. People talking about breathing then, but ⁓ Mel: no, most definitely. But I mean that's that's ⁓ man breathe. Breathe. Yeah. Marisa: Tell my younger self to breathe. I do tell my children that. do tell my children that today. And they are even though they're in their twenties, but I've always said, you know, just Just do it. It take it changes everything. Yeah. And do it. Do the do. I'd tell my s younger self, I should probably write a book on what I would tell my younger self, because I think it'd be thicker than what I'm just like blabbing off right now. Mel: Yes, you could go on for days with that and that's great because we're gonna pass that on to other young people that are in our lives and what you do now. Marisa: Go for your dreams. Go for your dreams. Don't play small find someone that mentor you. That's ⁓ critical. That to me more than anything, is if there's something you're wanting to do, find an expert in that area and lock arms with that person. Mel: Yes, yes. Always ask questions for sure. So the worst they could say is no. yeah, so all right, as we wrap it up, you know, ⁓ we are creating the six figure chicks playlist of songs. And I'm always interested to find out what's that one song for you. Marisa: love Alicia Key's This Girl Is On Fire. Fire. Yeah, like that song a lot. Mel: Yes, do that. Yay, I love that too. It's been a while since I've listened to her. So I will ⁓ pop that song on right after the show and get up to do a couple more hours of work. Marisa: Yeah, it's a great way to start your Friday. Mel: Yes, as we close it out, what's the best place people can find you online? Marisa: Okay, ⁓ I have a wonderful website called inspire my change.com. Inspire my change.com.
