- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello and welcome to another episode of a Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Of course, I'm your host, Clay and with me every
- 0:27Speaker 2: single week. Now, technically we are officially releasing this on
- 0:32Speaker 2: the same day that we normally do, but we're not
- 0:34Speaker 2: recording on the day that we normally do, but it
- 0:37Speaker 2: is Katie. Katie has a tight schedule due to some
- 0:43Speaker 2: personal reasons, and you know, it's been a while since
- 0:48Speaker 2: we've done an early recording for an actual like actual
- 0:53Speaker 2: Star Wars Alliance show. So this will also be nice
- 0:57Speaker 2: because again, I'm starting my new job as the time
- 1:00Speaker 2: we're recording this tomorrow, and it would be nice to
- 1:05Speaker 2: have a little bit of an open schedule to kind
- 1:07Speaker 2: of work with my new job. And so we are recording.
- 1:11Speaker 2: This is going to be a review episode, but before
- 1:15Speaker 2: we jump into the reviews, we do have actual, legitimate
- 1:21Speaker 2: gaming news. And I'm so excited and I don't care
- 1:26Speaker 2: what people say. I'm gonna let myself get excited for
- 1:30Speaker 2: this because I called it. I called it literally last
- 1:37Speaker 2: week when we talked about the rumors of or not
- 1:41Speaker 2: even rumors, the confirmation that the Nights of the Old
- 1:44Speaker 2: Republic games were in fact still being worked on. I said, hey,
- 1:50Speaker 2: if these two games are being worked on, that gives
- 1:54Speaker 2: me hope for a third game. And guys, oh my god.
- 2:00Speaker 2: When I was watching along with the geek Verse guys,
- 2:04Speaker 2: they didn't have a live stream. So I do apologize
- 2:06Speaker 2: for people anticipating that they did have an after show
- 2:10Speaker 2: talking about everything. But we were all hanging out in
- 2:13Speaker 2: the geek Verse discord in the gaming channel, and we
- 2:17Speaker 2: were all reacting and we were all freaking out, and
- 2:20Speaker 2: me and Travis both when we saw there's a certain
- 2:23Speaker 2: shot where we can see like the three silhouettes of
- 2:27Speaker 2: the characters, we saw that and we immediately called it. Now,
- 2:34Speaker 2: this is not Nights of the Old Republic. The first
- 2:37Speaker 2: game that was literally showed like there was the pre
- 2:41Speaker 2: show and then there was like the actual show. So
- 2:44Speaker 2: the pre show started at seven, the actual show started
- 2:47Speaker 2: at eight, like literally before anything else was shown or
- 2:53Speaker 2: awards were given or anything. On the top of the hour,
- 2:57Speaker 2: at eight o'clock PM Eastern Saner time, this trailer rolled
- 3:01Speaker 2: out and it was for Star Wars Fate of the
- 3:08Speaker 2: Old Republic.
- 3:11Speaker 3: And the Young Jedi inventors mentioned of the Old Republic
- 3:15Speaker 3: now just feels like, Hey, we're gonna have this news
- 3:19Speaker 3: release happen. We're gonna plug.
- 3:21Speaker 2: This like yeahund around the same time. Like it all
- 3:26Speaker 2: like worked just so fluidly, and I thought that was amazing.
- 3:32Speaker 2: So this came out and I'm gonna talk about this
- 3:36Speaker 2: game just for a little bit because there came a
- 3:39Speaker 2: little bit of drama immediately after. And when I say immediately,
- 3:45Speaker 2: I mean just the next day and the news being that,
- 3:52Speaker 2: like there were so many people that are like, oh, well,
- 3:56Speaker 2: because of this being the game that it is and
- 4:01Speaker 2: they're announcing it now, we need to anticipate this being
- 4:05Speaker 2: a twenty thirty release, and it's probably gonna be on
- 4:09Speaker 2: like the PlayStation seven instead of the PlayStation five. That's
- 4:13Speaker 2: the current generation you know, gaming console. And so that
- 4:18Speaker 2: bummed everybody out. It's like, dude, why are you saying
- 4:21Speaker 2: that kind of stuff to like just put us all down, like,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you know, this is so dumb. Well, the thing that
- 4:30Speaker 2: made literally everyone freak out during the trailer is at
- 4:36Speaker 2: the very end of the trailer it says the director's name.
- 4:41Speaker 2: That director's name is Casey Hudson.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah, he worked on Kotor.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Worked on the original Kotor. So like everybody get freaked
- 4:54Speaker 2: out of fate of the Old Republic title right, and
- 4:57Speaker 2: we were like yeah, and then like the small little
- 5:00Speaker 2: text of Casey Hudson's name and then everybody jumped, oh
- 5:05Speaker 2: god like and this feels truly like, hey, this is
- 5:10Speaker 2: going to be an epic piece of gaming material. Now
- 5:15Speaker 2: it has been since like confirmed by Casey himself. He says,
- 5:22Speaker 2: don't worry about not till twenty thirty. Rumors game will
- 5:26Speaker 2: be up before then. I'm not getting any younger, so
- 5:31Speaker 2: they're gonna push this out. I love this. I also
- 5:36Speaker 2: love that. What else did they They put out the fact.
- 5:45Speaker 4: That it's a very simple trailer. It's a very simple trailer.
- 5:50Speaker 4: This trailer what it is? People most people like guessed,
- 5:55Speaker 4: Like I saw all the reactions to this trailer.
- 6:00Speaker 2: People immediately said star Wars. When you saw the exhaust
- 6:06Speaker 2: of the ship. It's the second shot, and Star Wars
- 6:11Speaker 2: has kind of like a very iconic exhaust for ships,
- 6:15Speaker 2: and so as soon as people saw it, they're like,
- 6:16Speaker 2: star Wars, Okay, but what kind of Star Wars? What
- 6:18Speaker 2: does this mean? Then you see a female figure all
- 6:24Speaker 2: in silhouette this entire time, with a little bun at
- 6:28Speaker 2: the top. Of her head, and everybody.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Like very Bastilla.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Well it looks very dacy. Ridley looks very Ray. And
- 6:39Speaker 2: that's people like knee jerk reaction. They're like, Ray, what
- 6:42Speaker 2: is Ray doing in a video game? Are we having
- 6:44Speaker 2: like Posts Rise of Skywalker into a video game? Like
- 6:51Speaker 2: people were thinking, oh, we're getting Posts Rise of Skywalker
- 6:54Speaker 2: to have synergy with the movie released. This could be cool.
- 6:59Speaker 2: And then yes, when people started to see the silhouette
- 7:04Speaker 2: of the droid that was next to her. Now, how
- 7:09Speaker 2: did you pronounce her name Bestilla? You said Bestilla so
- 7:13Speaker 2: many people, and I need to know, and I've never
- 7:17Speaker 2: heard it pronounced like that. I've always said Bastila.
- 7:23Speaker 3: I So I learned how to read from a very
- 7:27Speaker 3: different person. He was not like phonics base. He was
- 7:31Speaker 3: like put the B and the A together that says bah.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeaheah no no. But like like this is also why
- 7:39Speaker 2: people I love audio books, because I don't get to like, like,
- 7:45Speaker 2: I am so nervous to say names. Now again, I
- 7:50Speaker 2: need to look back because I don't even know in
- 7:52Speaker 2: Kotor if they actually say her name at all in
- 7:58Speaker 2: the game, Okay, I'll have have to go back because
- 8:01Speaker 2: I do know when she talks, her name pops up
- 8:04Speaker 2: in the in the subtitles to like show who is speaking.
- 8:08Speaker 2: But I don't know if anybody actually says her name.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Because I think I've listened. I listened to the Reven
- 8:16Speaker 3: book and her name is in there.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Okay, because they get married, I think, what I didn't
- 8:28Speaker 2: know this?
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah, like they basically get married. Now, yeah, but still
- 8:45Speaker 3: his husband yeah, started to recall the existence of the
- 8:49Speaker 3: true Sith Empire.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Now let me see bastilla pronunciation. Yeah, so it's b
- 9:03Speaker 2: a h dash Still uh so Bastela Okay, yeah, uh.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I'm still probably gonna fuck it up.
- 9:18Speaker 2: But people immediately thought Bastila now in a small little
- 9:25Speaker 2: and I believe this might actually be on Star Wars
- 9:28Speaker 2: dot Com. I want to double check just in case.
- 9:35Speaker 2: But it is said to not be a direct sequel
- 9:42Speaker 2: to Quotor. It is a spiritual successor to Quotor.
- 9:50Speaker 3: And it's unknown if this is actually canon or not.
- 9:54Speaker 3: The assumption is yes, because of the spiritual successor, like legacy.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Exactly is unknown, but I would assume because it's a
- 10:06Speaker 3: new game and it's not a remake.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I am willing. But see, here's the thing, because we
- 10:14Speaker 2: may have had this conversation freaking five years ago when
- 10:18Speaker 2: it was announced the remake for Kotor, and now we
- 10:26Speaker 2: know Kotor two. I think we had discussed the possibility
- 10:33Speaker 2: of their being minor changes to the story to fit
- 10:40Speaker 2: current Cannon, so that way we could say that Kotor
- 10:44Speaker 2: is officially Cannon. Correct. Now, yes, but they have already
- 10:48Speaker 2: said that this will be a spiritual successor, because if
- 10:50Speaker 2: people don't know, Kotor is technically legends based, and Kotor
- 10:56Speaker 2: two is technically not even a sequel to Kotor. It
- 11:02Speaker 2: is like somewhat like in the same universe, but like different.
- 11:10Speaker 2: It's it's it's very weird. But when I heard that
- 11:17Speaker 2: was a it was a spiritual successor, excuse me, I
- 11:21Speaker 2: made the assumption, Oh, then that might mean that they
- 11:25Speaker 2: are trying to push this more into a canontical timeline
- 11:31Speaker 2: rather than keeping it legends based. Still very exciting. And
- 11:38Speaker 2: the assumption from a lot of people, which I am
- 11:41Speaker 2: okay with making this assumption, is because Casey has said, hey,
- 11:48Speaker 2: it's gonna come out sooner than twenty thirty, then they're
- 11:52Speaker 2: not trying to reinvent the wheel, right, which I think
- 11:56Speaker 2: is a good thing. People are going to say, oh,
- 11:59Speaker 2: then they're you're just gonna make it like the old one.
- 12:01Speaker 2: It's gonna suck. No, people still to this day play
- 12:05Speaker 2: the old Kotor. Why do you think people are excited
- 12:09Speaker 2: for the remake, because, again, you don't need to reinvent
- 12:13Speaker 2: the wheel. You need to make the core game look
- 12:18Speaker 2: as beautiful as a twenty twenty five video game with
- 12:22Speaker 2: the same mechanics. Yep, and people will go ballistic. It's
- 12:28Speaker 2: just the way it is. So you take that type
- 12:32Speaker 2: of concept for a brand new game, you don't reinvent
- 12:35Speaker 2: the wheel. You bring along new features, you know, just
- 12:39Speaker 2: because there's been a lot of new gaming concepts since
- 12:43Speaker 2: the last Kotoor game and now this one, and you
- 12:47Speaker 2: add some of those too, just to add nuance to
- 12:50Speaker 2: the game, right, Okay with that, I'm totally down for that,
- 13:02Speaker 2: and I am so freaking excited for this game. My Literally,
- 13:09Speaker 2: the first words out of my mouth were like, oh shit,
- 13:11Speaker 2: oh shit, ohd ocehand o should o shit ocehit. I'm
- 13:15Speaker 2: just so freaking excited for this, especially again because I
- 13:20Speaker 2: will pat myself on the back and say that I
- 13:22Speaker 2: called it.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Matt was super excited about this one too. I had
- 13:26Speaker 3: to remind him Hey, there's no console icons in the
- 13:30Speaker 3: end of it, so unknown when it could be coming out,
- 13:34Speaker 3: even though yes, could be before twenty thirty, which is
- 13:38Speaker 3: still five years away, so there's still plenty of time
- 13:40Speaker 3: for a new console to drop.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yes, and there there is still plenty of time. I'm
- 13:47Speaker 2: crossing my fingers for Kotoor and Kotor two to also
- 13:52Speaker 2: come out before then, because I think that would just
- 13:55Speaker 2: be great marketing and synergy wise. Hey, you really least
- 14:00Speaker 2: the first two remakes and then the very next year
- 14:06Speaker 2: Boom Fate of the Old Republic comes out.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that totally makes sense. Obviously, this will
- 14:15Speaker 3: be one where I watch the cut scenes, even though
- 14:17Speaker 3: I still haven't watched the cut scenes from Jedi Fallen
- 14:22Speaker 3: Order and Jedi Survivor. Eventually I'll do that, I promise Katie.
- 14:28Speaker 2: If we need to make time, I will literally sit
- 14:31Speaker 2: here with the camera sharing my screen and we will
- 14:35Speaker 2: play this game together. Like you don't understand if. Okay,
- 14:43Speaker 2: so I know Matt he's an Xbox gamer, right he also, yeah,
- 14:48Speaker 2: he's an Xbox Gamer. Now, I do not know if
- 14:53Speaker 2: he has the old games. I also don't know if
- 14:59Speaker 2: there's still purchasable through the Xbox Store like online digital games,
- 15:07Speaker 2: but I do know that they are always on sale
- 15:12Speaker 2: on Steam. So if he is ever a laptop gaming
- 15:17Speaker 2: type of person.
- 15:19Speaker 3: He does he plays like the RuneScape with like the
- 15:21Speaker 3: really old.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Like Okay, yeah, okay, so I would even say this
- 15:28Speaker 2: the next time it's on sale. I'm going to message
- 15:33Speaker 2: you both on Disco with the link. So that way,
- 15:39Speaker 2: if y'all need to hdmi your laptop to the TV
- 15:44Speaker 2: to play this game, Katie, I'm legitimately telling you the
- 15:48Speaker 2: storytelling of this game of these games so good, it
- 15:53Speaker 2: is legitimately like it's what got me into like forever
- 15:58Speaker 2: into first single player games.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, He says he does not have the Kochor
- 16:05Speaker 3: games because he has every Xbox console. I think here's
- 16:09Speaker 3: a lot of Xbox consoles he does not have the games.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I I will definitely be keeping an eye out
- 16:17Speaker 2: as I slowly open up Steam already. It's it's so fun.
- 16:27Speaker 2: The best thing about Kochar itself is the fact that
- 16:36Speaker 2: like it is a turn based game and story driven game,
- 16:44Speaker 2: so you do not feel rushed whatsoever. So if you're
- 16:47Speaker 2: truly there to like, hey, I want to explore a planet,
- 16:52Speaker 2: I want to really absorb the story. You are given
- 16:57Speaker 2: the opportunity to do that. Gotcha, you don't feel rushed
- 17:02Speaker 2: at all. And even when, like for me personally, when
- 17:08Speaker 2: Fate of the Old Republic eventually comes out, I am
- 17:14Speaker 2: not going to feel pressured to review that game as
- 17:19Speaker 2: soon as possible, because that'll be a game that I
- 17:23Speaker 2: literally just marinate in because it's been a game that
- 17:27Speaker 2: I have been waiting for for way too damn long.
- 17:32Speaker 2: So so yeah, that's that's like the big thing for me.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So Night of Nights of the Old Republic. Yeah, so
- 17:43Speaker 2: currently it is literally ten dollars right now, the first game.
- 17:51Speaker 2: But yeah, anything else on this Fate of the Old
- 17:56Speaker 2: Republic I don't think so cool. Cool cool. So then
- 18:00Speaker 2: next one, Katie actually got a little bit excited for
- 18:05Speaker 2: when I texted her the trailer this next one, and
- 18:10Speaker 2: I loved you.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I was passed out when you were texting me.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I was passed out when this game was actually announced.
- 18:21Speaker 3: The exact release date hopefully.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah, this one actually has This one actually has a date.
- 18:29Speaker 2: But the greatest thing is that the geek First Game
- 18:34Speaker 2: channel on Discord immediately got flooded with the exact same
- 18:39Speaker 2: gift of Anakin Skywalker yelling, now this is pod racing.
- 18:46Speaker 2: We are getting a racing game in the year twenty
- 18:52Speaker 2: twenty six, a Star Wars racing game. It is called
- 18:58Speaker 2: Star Wars Racer. Now, this is really cool because it
- 19:06Speaker 2: like has this like it has this aesthetic of like
- 19:14Speaker 2: old school racing games. It really does feel great when
- 19:21Speaker 2: you look at the footage and everything else.
- 19:27Speaker 3: And people have been trying to get like, go, hey,
- 19:30Speaker 3: Star Wars, you have a great opportunity here. People love
- 19:33Speaker 3: Mario Kart. You have a built in opportunity to have
- 19:38Speaker 3: Mario Kart in Star Wars.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Yes, but I took it a different route. Now, I
- 19:48Speaker 2: would love that this would be if this becomes like
- 19:50Speaker 2: a party game, I think that would be super fun.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Don't get me wrong. I think that would be super
- 19:56Speaker 2: super fun. I want because I was a big fan
- 20:02Speaker 2: of like the need for speed games, and like even
- 20:08Speaker 2: when I was like really little and my dad was
- 20:11Speaker 2: kind of like the gamer, he would even buy like
- 20:14Speaker 2: the NASCAR racing games and there would be a career mode.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I would love to create my own racer with a
- 20:23Speaker 2: career mode, and like with every race I win credits.
- 20:28Speaker 2: With those credits, I'm able to upgrade my pod racer,
- 20:32Speaker 2: like I'm making bets against the huts going from planet
- 20:36Speaker 2: to planet. Like that would be a fun aesthetic to
- 20:41Speaker 2: the game. I think that would be really really cool. Now,
- 20:44Speaker 2: I may be putting a lot on my expectations for
- 20:48Speaker 2: this game, but either way, I win if it, Like
- 20:54Speaker 2: just for the fact that we are getting a racing
- 20:57Speaker 2: Star Wars game, I already win. The extra stuff is
- 21:01Speaker 2: just going to be extra. But like if I had,
- 21:05Speaker 2: like if people were to say, hey, Clay, we will
- 21:08Speaker 2: put anything you want into this game, I would love
- 21:11Speaker 2: a career mode. I would love to be able to
- 21:14Speaker 2: make my racer make those bets, like and there'd be
- 21:19Speaker 2: like somewhat of a story mode to it as well,
- 21:22Speaker 2: Like I think that would be really really fun. But
- 21:28Speaker 2: the party game, like because I do think and I
- 21:35Speaker 2: still think people have fun with Mario Kart online. But like,
- 21:39Speaker 2: the only bad thing is anything that has online capabilities
- 21:46Speaker 2: and or competitive play. There's always a small portion of
- 21:52Speaker 2: like toxicity that comes with that, So I'm not looking
- 21:57Speaker 2: forward to that aspect. But again, Star Wars Racing, I'm
- 22:03Speaker 2: already having fun with it, and I'm totally down. I'm
- 22:07Speaker 2: totally down for it.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I'm absolutely down for it. Now. I think I would
- 22:13Speaker 3: have to see a gameplayed trailer because I just enjoy
- 22:17Speaker 3: the aspects of Mario Kart, like just like the Grand
- 22:21Speaker 3: Prix elements. I know there is I think in like
- 22:25Speaker 3: some of the newer games, there's a story that you
- 22:27Speaker 3: can do to like kind of tag along with it.
- 22:31Speaker 3: I just I apparently I am not a story based player,
- 22:35Speaker 3: or at least a difficult story based player. That's just
- 22:40Speaker 3: not my cup of tea. So yeah, I would definitely
- 22:45Speaker 3: have to see a gameplay trailer to go, hey, I
- 22:48Speaker 3: really actually do want to pick this one up.
- 22:51Speaker 2: So it does say in the actual uh trailer, It
- 22:55Speaker 2: does say game engine footage, so I believe this will
- 23:03Speaker 2: be the actual footage that you have in game.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Okay, I say gameplay. I remember I'm not burbiage specific
- 23:13Speaker 3: with I want to like see like, Okay, this is
- 23:16Speaker 3: what the game is about.
- 23:19Speaker 2: Yes, you need you need so with teasers like this,
- 23:26Speaker 2: game trailers are almost exactly like movie trailers. So this
- 23:30Speaker 2: is the tease. The next trailer we will receive will
- 23:35Speaker 2: be more of the story. Now, if this is truly
- 23:40Speaker 2: a just racing game, there won't be a story trailer. Instead,
- 23:46Speaker 2: what we will see is different types of racers that
- 23:50Speaker 2: you can that they didn't show in the teaser. They
- 23:54Speaker 2: will show more maps and they will show I'm sure
- 23:59Speaker 2: whether there will be iconic UH characters that you can
- 24:04Speaker 2: play as as well. So like because we already saw Slabolba,
- 24:11Speaker 2: he is the he is of course the iconic character here,
- 24:16Speaker 2: which I do think that like what I want. Let
- 24:19Speaker 2: me actually look at the post that I shared on discord,
- 24:22Speaker 2: because I did think that was absolutely hilarious.
- 24:25Speaker 3: And this one has been confirmed to be canon because
- 24:29Speaker 3: in the trailer they talk about how like the Empire
- 24:32Speaker 3: ruined pod racing, so now we have to put it
- 24:34Speaker 3: back on the map. So I do think there will
- 24:36Speaker 3: be at least some story base with that aspect. But
- 24:42Speaker 3: I'm a little excited about this.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Are we going to get the character from UH? From UH?
- 24:48Speaker 2: From a certain point of view? Maybe that would be fun.
- 25:01Speaker 2: But I did laugh at this tweet some random person said,
- 25:05Speaker 2: I'm glad the time. I'm glad time has vindicated Subulba.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Everyone was so cruel to him because he tried to
- 25:14Speaker 2: kill a child during the Banta Eve Classic, even though
- 25:21Speaker 2: he was bunto Sorry Eve Classic, even though he was
- 25:26Speaker 2: he was literally Darth Vader, Like, hey, I know it's
- 25:31Speaker 2: a canon event and so like he couldn't kill Anakin Skywalker,
- 25:36Speaker 2: but just understand, I think the universe might have been
- 25:39Speaker 2: a little bit better if he killed Anakin. It's basically
- 25:43Speaker 2: what this dude is saying is I thought that was hilarious.
- 25:46Speaker 3: It's like, what what if you got to go back
- 25:49Speaker 3: in time, would you kill Hitler?
- 25:56Speaker 2: But yeah, like I'm these are two games that I
- 25:59Speaker 2: am so glad ad that were actually uh shown at
- 26:06Speaker 2: the game wards. I really think Star Wars needed a
- 26:09Speaker 2: win with both of these and Athletic just with Fate
- 26:13Speaker 2: of the Old Republic by itself, I think would have
- 26:15Speaker 2: been a big enough win. But adding the cherry on
- 26:18Speaker 2: top for a racing game, I think that's even better.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Because again, just like you said, you're not a story
- 26:25Speaker 2: person when it comes to gaming, You're not a first person,
- 26:30Speaker 2: first player or one player game story game person. And
- 26:35Speaker 2: that's okay. A lot of people aren't. That's why you
- 26:39Speaker 2: know they have party games like this, and so for
- 26:43Speaker 2: Galactic Racer to be announced, you literally have a game
- 26:47Speaker 2: for everybody.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Now.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think that's really really cool.
- 26:56Speaker 3: But I think I think that's all I have, because
- 26:58Speaker 3: again clearly I'm not period video game savvy.
- 27:05Speaker 2: It's all good. But we do have, of course, the
- 27:09Speaker 2: two comics that we will be reviewing tonight. The Jedi. Oh,
- 27:18Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 27:19Speaker 3: I said last week that we were reviewing the last
- 27:21Speaker 3: piece of New Star Wars material from twenty twenty five. No,
- 27:24Speaker 3: this is actually the last piece new material from twenty
- 27:30Speaker 3: twenty five, which means we did it. Clay high five who.
- 27:36Speaker 2: We are gonna be reviewing Fear of the Jedi, which
- 27:41Speaker 2: is the last piece of the main High Republic storyline,
- 27:49Speaker 2: and then we will also be talking about the last volume,
- 27:53Speaker 2: volume five of the High Republic Adventures storyline. So which
- 28:01Speaker 2: one would you like to go through? First?
- 28:06Speaker 3: Let's do High Republican Ventage volume five, because technically the
- 28:13Speaker 3: Fear of the Jedi trade has the last piece of
- 28:17Speaker 3: High Republic media in it, so I feel like it
- 28:19Speaker 3: needs to go last.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, So these technically, well, like it feels like
- 28:24Speaker 2: these technically go concurrently. Yeah, like timeline wise, but I
- 28:31Speaker 2: can I can see like the like, what was it
- 28:34Speaker 2: like release wise?
- 28:35Speaker 3: That like yeah, okay, they were Yeah, the Beacon, which
- 28:39Speaker 3: is the final issue in the Fear of the Jedi
- 28:42Speaker 3: Trade came out I think two months after the last
- 28:47Speaker 3: issues in both serious.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Okay, okay, then that makes sense. So yeah, let's jump
- 28:54Speaker 2: into volume five of the High Republic Adventures. Of course,
- 29:02Speaker 2: we always talk about the credits. Of course, this was
- 29:10Speaker 2: entirely written by Daniel Jilse Older. It was illustrated by
- 29:16Speaker 2: Harvey Talibo or Tali Ba I think it's Taliba Taliba,
- 29:24Speaker 2: and then colored by Michael at A Yeah, tia a Ta,
- 29:31Speaker 2: I don't know, and then lettered by Comics Crafts Tyler
- 29:36Speaker 2: Smith and Jimmy ben A Court bet A Court bit
- 29:44Speaker 2: Baton court Geez Louisa I cannot see. But we also
- 29:54Speaker 2: have additional artwork being for of course, the variant covers
- 29:58Speaker 2: that are featured in this book being Alyssa Rambouli, Corn Howell,
- 30:04Speaker 2: Diana Sosa, French, Carlmagno, Elizabeth Bell's Sorry, and of course
- 30:14Speaker 2: Daniel jose Older himself. So I didn't know he was
- 30:19Speaker 2: an artist until I saw one of the last variant covers.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Yeah, he said he wanted to because like he drew
- 30:28Speaker 3: kind of the art stencils for the villain group in
- 30:35Speaker 3: Phase two's High Republic Adventures. So he said because of that,
- 30:42Speaker 3: he wanted to try his hand at drawing a cover
- 30:46Speaker 3: for this series that had meant so much to him
- 30:50Speaker 3: and everything. And so apparently dark Horse was like, well,
- 30:54Speaker 3: why don't you finish writing first and then we can
- 30:57Speaker 3: see what you have art wise, So that's what happened.
- 31:01Speaker 3: But then they end up giving.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Them it's a fair like like a like, we technically
- 31:07Speaker 2: hired you for this. Let's wait until that's a completed,
- 31:10Speaker 2: done deal and then we'll get into the additional stuff.
- 31:13Speaker 2: So at least they gave him the opportunity.
- 31:16Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I do agree, Like I'm glad that
- 31:21Speaker 3: he got an opportunity because I do think it's super
- 31:24Speaker 3: cool for that to happen. But obviously, yeah, so this one,
- 31:32Speaker 3: uh it picks up obviously right after volume four of
- 31:35Speaker 3: the Higher Public Adventures, where the General is headed to
- 31:41Speaker 3: go blow up the energy generator for Eriadu's main cities basically,
- 31:52Speaker 3: and so these uh, this these issues minus the last one,
- 31:59Speaker 3: which is kind of like our epilogue, kind of all
- 32:02Speaker 3: tackle that and kind of honestly hit the same themes
- 32:07Speaker 3: that Fear of the Jedi has, which is tackling your
- 32:10Speaker 3: elements of Fear mm hmm in the grand scheme of things.
- 32:16Speaker 3: But obviously, as we know guys from our review of
- 32:20Speaker 3: It's behind Me, It's it's the last book in the
- 32:25Speaker 3: series called Trials of the Jedi. To move my curtain, yeah,
- 32:33Speaker 3: as we know, the Battle of Your Yatu is one.
- 32:37Speaker 3: So I really don't feel like we need to talk
- 32:38Speaker 3: too much about plot here. It's kind of just like
- 32:42Speaker 3: highlight points.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Highlight points and character beats. Really is kind of like,
- 32:47Speaker 2: I think the big one here, and I think the
- 32:51Speaker 2: main focus for volume five was really far Azalla. They
- 32:57Speaker 2: were like the big it of like facing fear, and
- 33:04Speaker 2: it did come with like an ultimatum type of thinking
- 33:07Speaker 2: to it also, which was kind of interesting. But I
- 33:11Speaker 2: will say this, I comparing the two and I think
- 33:18Speaker 2: this will only be my, like, my real only criticism
- 33:22Speaker 2: for both books. Honestly, this one did not hit as
- 33:28Speaker 2: hard as Fear of the Jedi, and I think more so,
- 33:34Speaker 2: Uh High Republic Adventures fell into like a Hey, readers
- 33:44Speaker 2: are expecting this type of storytelling that we've been doing,
- 33:49Speaker 2: which isn't a bad thing. You find your niche, you
- 33:52Speaker 2: find your audience, you write to that audience. That's what
- 33:55Speaker 2: a lot of writers do this, one particularly being Hey,
- 34:00Speaker 2: we're doing a lot of ships. We love people, love love, love,
- 34:03Speaker 2: love love, and like the last twenty pages are nothing
- 34:06Speaker 2: but that, and like it kind of doesn't resolve like
- 34:11Speaker 2: for me personally, Like it kind of just like.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Let's be real, we knew Emmeeric and Cyan were coming.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that like and I think that's more of
- 34:25Speaker 2: a thing for me, is like, hey, we already knew
- 34:27Speaker 2: all of this, so like us pausing to do all
- 34:30Speaker 2: of this. And again, guys, this is technically the ending
- 34:35Speaker 2: of the High Republic for any like for people who
- 34:38Speaker 2: aren't hardcore fans of the High Republic and to Star
- 34:41Speaker 2: Wars and everything else, and they're just like completionists and
- 34:43Speaker 2: reading this stuff for all they know, Hey, I need
- 34:47Speaker 2: to read this because it's the end of the story,
- 34:49Speaker 2: you know, and so you have to tie loose ends up,
- 34:53Speaker 2: you know. And so I don't fault them for that,
- 34:58Speaker 2: but I I believe in one of our other like
- 35:02Speaker 2: Patreon episodes by the way, guys, if you want to
- 35:05Speaker 2: go listen to those I talked about. How like one
- 35:09Speaker 2: thing for me personally that I've kind of got like
- 35:13Speaker 2: gotten like fell out of love with is the Hey,
- 35:18Speaker 2: with the power of love, we win everything. And this
- 35:23Speaker 2: definitely felt like that at the very end.
- 35:34Speaker 3: I see what you're saying, and I'm not going to
- 35:36Speaker 3: say that you're wrong on that, because obviously it's your interpretation.
- 35:40Speaker 3: My thought process on the power of love moments that
- 35:44Speaker 3: came up in this is like, hey, Like the whole
- 35:48Speaker 3: thing about this was what do the Jedi fear? Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 3: And in the grand scheme of things, a lot of
- 35:55Speaker 3: what came out of this and a lot of what
- 35:57Speaker 3: Yoda carries forward is that they're afraid of relationships and attachments,
- 36:03Speaker 3: and so that leads to the downfall of the Jedi
- 36:08Speaker 3: ordered later on. And so in this case, they're kind
- 36:12Speaker 3: of confessing those fears and kind of accepting them and going, Hey,
- 36:16Speaker 3: you know what, this is my last moment on planet
- 36:19Speaker 3: your Yaduo. I'm about to die, even though you're not really,
- 36:22Speaker 3: but like you think you're about to die. I must
- 36:24Speaker 3: confess my deepest, darkest secret. And so now that you've
- 36:29Speaker 3: confessed it, like, what's the point in hiding it? Basically?
- 36:33Speaker 3: And so I felt like that was more of like
- 36:36Speaker 3: fear of the Jedi and Volume five of Higher Republic
- 36:40Speaker 3: Adventures was more about facing your fears and accepting them,
- 36:45Speaker 3: and a lot of that was.
- 36:46Speaker 2: In the real And I do think, just like you
- 36:49Speaker 2: had said in our last episode Star Wars, lucasfilm, like
- 36:58Speaker 2: everybody in between, like they are taking Star Wars in
- 37:04Speaker 2: a new path forward, you know, in this modern era,
- 37:08Speaker 2: and so like we need to look at the Jedi
- 37:13Speaker 2: completely different. And this may be, of course, some foreshadowing
- 37:18Speaker 2: to how you know, the new Jedi Council will eventually
- 37:22Speaker 2: look like in future iterations of Star Wars, you know,
- 37:27Speaker 2: like the one where Race Skywalker is going to be,
- 37:32Speaker 2: you know, an older character and all of this other stuff. Right,
- 37:36Speaker 2: So there might be a little bit of foreshadowing here,
- 37:39Speaker 2: but like I still enjoy that. I still like, hey,
- 37:43Speaker 2: let's get rid of the status quo for just a bit,
- 37:47Speaker 2: because hey, we have to learn from our mistakes. But
- 37:51Speaker 2: also how did we get there? Oh yeah, this is
- 37:56Speaker 2: how we got there, you know. And it's because of
- 37:59Speaker 2: the timeline. You're technically years before Phantom Menace, so like
- 38:06Speaker 2: we have to show you the breadcrumbs to what will
- 38:08Speaker 2: eventually be the downfall, like you said, But like I
- 38:15Speaker 2: I was okay with everything else. Now again, it has
- 38:19Speaker 2: been a while since we read volume four, So opening
- 38:25Speaker 2: this book up, I was a little lost, and then like,
- 38:30Speaker 2: I feel like after the first issue, I'm like, Okay,
- 38:34Speaker 2: I remember a lot of these things. And again, we've
- 38:37Speaker 2: read Trials of the Jedi also, so like there was
- 38:41Speaker 2: things that I'm like, I know how this ends, like
- 38:45Speaker 2: I know where we're going.
- 38:48Speaker 3: And that was I don't want to harp on that
- 38:50Speaker 3: too much, but that was one of our critiques with
- 38:52Speaker 3: Trials of the Jedi is the fact that, hey, we
- 38:55Speaker 3: know this story takes place in the High Republic Adventures.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Why are we double treading it? Yeah, And I know
- 39:03Speaker 3: we weren't tackling the same characters you, Yeah, But at
- 39:08Speaker 3: the same time, I wish we hadn't had those chapters
- 39:12Speaker 3: in Chris of the data. This is not a fault
- 39:14Speaker 3: of the High Republican pictures. This is fault of the construction.
- 39:17Speaker 2: Yes, And that's what I was gonna say. I was
- 39:19Speaker 2: gonna say, it's not necessarily a fault of individual creators.
- 39:25Speaker 2: It is literally, hey, this is how we're constructing it.
- 39:28Speaker 2: And it may be a really weird idea of like, oh, well,
- 39:31Speaker 2: some people who are reading the books are probably not
- 39:34Speaker 2: reading the comics, and it's like, but then they wouldn't
- 39:38Speaker 2: like if they're not reading the comics, they don't know
- 39:39Speaker 2: those characters anyway, They don't know any of that stuff.
- 39:42Speaker 2: So do you really need to put this in there?
- 39:44Speaker 2: You know?
- 39:45Speaker 3: Yeah, like the Battle of Irriatu is pivotal, Yes, but
- 39:50Speaker 3: it should have not been able to go multifocal. It
- 39:56Speaker 3: should have stayed Again, big critique phase three in general
- 40:02Speaker 3: is hey, we're separating things and you should be able
- 40:05Speaker 3: to do this, but also at the same time, we're
- 40:07Speaker 3: tying everything together, so you have to read everything.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but I did say that the main focal point
- 40:15Speaker 2: was Farzala. So how did you feel about Farzala's story,
- 40:20Speaker 2: their fear and the ultimate decision that they are needing
- 40:25Speaker 2: to make to quote unquote win the day.
- 40:30Speaker 3: I honestly thought Farzala's decision to pull the trigger took
- 40:35Speaker 3: a little bit longer than it should have because he had, like,
- 40:41Speaker 3: we browbeat this item over I think three issues, four issues, Yeah,
- 40:48Speaker 3: and so it just feels like it carries on a
- 40:50Speaker 3: little bit much. I don't critique Daniel jose Older storytelling
- 40:54Speaker 3: much because I enjoy his storytelling very much, but in
- 40:59Speaker 3: this case, I do see a fault there? Like it
- 41:02Speaker 3: just drags and we should have gone, okay, we have
- 41:05Speaker 3: had the conversation with Orbitouk, his former master. We should
- 41:10Speaker 3: have been able to progress when Farzola goes, you know what,
- 41:15Speaker 3: if I need to pull this trigger, I can, And
- 41:18Speaker 3: we should have said, hey, pull the trigger now, or
- 41:21Speaker 3: something else should have come up so we didn't have
- 41:23Speaker 3: to focus on that part of his character.
- 41:26Speaker 2: I blame I blame the formatting of comics for that.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Just the way comics are built. They say, hey, you
- 41:40Speaker 2: need anywhere between twenty to twenty five pages, and your
- 41:45Speaker 2: story only leaves us with eighteen pages, so hey, you
- 41:50Speaker 2: need to You may need to add a little fluff here,
- 41:53Speaker 2: but make it meaningful. And so of course you have
- 41:57Speaker 2: that vision with Farzola and his of course deceased master,
- 42:03Speaker 2: And that is what kind of took me out of
- 42:05Speaker 2: It was like we because we got the tease of
- 42:09Speaker 2: like the stilowette on the Hill the last volume, and
- 42:13Speaker 2: we're like, what is that? This finally shows you like, oh,
- 42:16Speaker 2: it's his master. He's having a vision. This is going
- 42:19Speaker 2: to help him progress through whatever fear he has. And
- 42:24Speaker 2: one thing that I kind of despise as much as
- 42:28Speaker 2: I love comics and as much as I want to,
- 42:30Speaker 2: of course stay in the business of comics, the one
- 42:34Speaker 2: thing that I absolutely despise in comics is what people
- 42:38Speaker 2: call the sing song dialogue, which is somebody will say something,
- 42:45Speaker 2: the person that they're talking to repeats it, and then
- 42:48Speaker 2: the other person repeats it again, and then the answer
- 42:52Speaker 2: to that what was repeated twice is finally answered. And
- 42:56Speaker 2: it's literally to make the progression of comics quote unquote smoother,
- 43:02Speaker 2: but it never does. For Zala does the exact same
- 43:07Speaker 2: thing here when he is bouncing around the page fighting
- 43:13Speaker 2: quote unquote or sparring with his match with his master,
- 43:17Speaker 2: they both repeat the same thing like two or three
- 43:19Speaker 2: times and then like again to add more fluff to it,
- 43:25Speaker 2: like his master has this like phrase, because again this
- 43:31Speaker 2: was also introduced a last volume of how their sparring
- 43:35Speaker 2: was like a dance, and so he keeps saying dance
- 43:38Speaker 2: for a Zala dance and like it's encouraging him, and
- 43:41Speaker 2: I understand what it's supposed to be. But because I'm
- 43:45Speaker 2: already taken out of the actual book because of this
- 43:52Speaker 2: whole sequence that didn't hit the way it was meant to,
- 43:57Speaker 2: you know, so that's that's really the only bad thing,
- 44:02Speaker 2: because I do agree he does make a final decision.
- 44:07Speaker 2: He does say like, hey, if I need to pull
- 44:10Speaker 2: this trigger, I'm going to pull the trigger. And then
- 44:14Speaker 2: I think a whole freaking issue goes by and no
- 44:20Speaker 2: decision was made. And then on the third issue of
- 44:24Speaker 2: this volume, they're like, far as Alla do it, and
- 44:28Speaker 2: like there's like this whole like he sees the ghosts
- 44:32Speaker 2: of all the very important Jedi Council members. Yeah, like
- 44:37Speaker 2: around him when he's making the decision to fire, and
- 44:40Speaker 2: he's like crying. He's like, I'm so sorry. It's like,
- 44:44Speaker 2: I know you're meant to make this like emotional beat
- 44:48Speaker 2: out of this story, but we know that you've and
- 44:55Speaker 2: when I say you, I'm directly talking to Daniel Joseolder
- 44:58Speaker 2: at this point. I know that you've gotten us so
- 45:01Speaker 2: attached to each one of these characters. And it's a
- 45:05Speaker 2: Adventures comic. I know everybody's surviving. Like I hate to
- 45:11Speaker 2: be that person, but I know everybody's surviving. It would
- 45:15Speaker 2: have it literally would have shocked me if any of
- 45:19Speaker 2: the characters actually would have died, like anyone, but there
- 45:24Speaker 2: there was like it and I think that was a
- 45:26Speaker 2: little bit more of something else that I had. It's like,
- 45:31Speaker 2: it's not the same critique of like, oh, we know
- 45:33Speaker 2: how this all ends. It's more so like there was consequences,
- 45:40Speaker 2: but there wasn't consequences to this story, you know.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think that was just a failing of
- 45:49Speaker 3: the beats that they set up in phase one. Very
- 45:52Speaker 3: few people died in Phase one, even if it wasn't
- 45:56Speaker 3: in the High Republic Adventures comic. Right at the end
- 46:01Speaker 3: of the day, we should have been able to have
- 46:05Speaker 3: more deaths and not have been like, oh, did this
- 46:08Speaker 3: person die? Did this person die? Did this person die?
- 46:12Speaker 3: People should have been able to die. And don't get
- 46:16Speaker 3: me wrong, I'm happy some people got to come back,
- 46:19Speaker 3: But it was just a little drastic how much we said, oh,
- 46:23Speaker 3: these people are all dead, these people are all good,
- 46:25Speaker 3: but no, they're not really dead. Yeah, or they should
- 46:30Speaker 3: have been answered in the opening issue or opening chapters
- 46:37Speaker 3: of the books that started Phase three, because like, it
- 46:42Speaker 3: should not have taken us five issues in the Higher
- 46:44Speaker 3: Republic Adventures to find out that far Zala and Buckets
- 46:49Speaker 3: we're all not dead. Like that should have never been
- 46:52Speaker 3: a thing in my opinion.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Well, and speaking of buckets. We get another like small
- 46:57Speaker 2: homage to him, yes, talking about and like it like
- 47:03Speaker 2: it felt very odd, like it it fit in the story,
- 47:07Speaker 2: but like I think it was the very last issue,
- 47:13Speaker 2: the very opening pages of the last issue, like Ariado
- 47:17Speaker 2: is getting cleaned up and everything else. Of course, the
- 47:21Speaker 2: the story of the mission that the Seven went and
- 47:28Speaker 2: did you know that's finally gone around somewhat because they're
- 47:33Speaker 2: not supposed to talk about it, which I do have
- 47:35Speaker 2: a small critique in the Fear of the Jedi by
- 47:38Speaker 2: the way we learned about buckets of Blood and like,
- 47:46Speaker 2: I don't know, like there's one part. It's not even
- 47:49Speaker 2: in the last issue. I think it's the second to
- 47:51Speaker 2: last issue where like, uh, who was it? It was?
- 47:56Speaker 2: Uh oh, I never remember her name? The Jedi with
- 48:02Speaker 2: the uh very long brimmed hat with the two lightsabers,
- 48:08Speaker 2: Master yeah, sav sav Master Sav. Yes. Zile is asking like, hey,
- 48:24Speaker 2: how do you how do you keep looking towards the
- 48:26Speaker 2: light like in all of this dark moments, and they
- 48:31Speaker 2: have a little bit of a monologue with Zile, and
- 48:34Speaker 2: that's when you see buckets, like you see a small
- 48:39Speaker 2: glimmer of buckets and we know at that point like, oh,
- 48:42Speaker 2: he's probably at Planet X right now and he's about
- 48:50Speaker 2: to die. That's the foreshadowing of him dying. And then
- 48:52Speaker 2: of course in the last issue we actually learn about
- 48:55Speaker 2: his death. They actually drew it, which I was really surprise.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Yeah I was, but I was also kind of happy
- 49:03Speaker 3: about that, like because Buckets was a High Republic Adventures character,
- 49:08Speaker 3: and yes, he's pulled in two trials of the Jedi,
- 49:11Speaker 3: but I do think that for the people saying, oh,
- 49:14Speaker 3: I'm only reading the High Republic Adventures, like you need
- 49:18Speaker 3: that moment for them.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, which the freaking page where his death takes place,
- 49:28Speaker 2: beautiful page, beautiful colors. I actually really really dig it.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Yeah. I didn't have that one marked just because it
- 49:36Speaker 3: made me cry so much, but I probably should have
- 49:38Speaker 3: marked that one.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Well, it's literally the.
- 49:41Speaker 3: This splash page, like, yeah, the color in this one.
- 49:45Speaker 2: Yeah that's it's in the uh the second to last issue.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, oh yeah, I did mark it, but yeah
- 49:54Speaker 3: that like that's heartbreaking.
- 49:57Speaker 2: It's a beautiful page.
- 50:00Speaker 3: Is there's so much it is so different from what
- 50:04Speaker 3: it like the High Republican meastures typically looks like. So
- 50:07Speaker 3: it's glad to see Harvey branch out into kind of
- 50:13Speaker 3: a vaguely different Yea art style, And I know the
- 50:19Speaker 3: coloring is not him, but it like it still fits within.
- 50:25Speaker 2: The purple and the red and the yellow, like it
- 50:27Speaker 2: it all looks so beautiful. It kind of reminds me
- 50:32Speaker 2: of like a Crimson Sky.
- 50:34Speaker 3: Yeah, so I really dug that now and this page
- 50:39Speaker 3: to the final page.
- 50:40Speaker 2: The final page. Now, I was not a fan of
- 50:45Speaker 2: the uh basically no dialogue twenty pages. I know, like
- 50:55Speaker 2: this would have hit probably really hard if this was
- 50:58Speaker 2: like an animated series and you had the actual song
- 51:01Speaker 2: going around and you like, this is the High Republic,
- 51:05Speaker 2: like this is the Young Jedi Adventures, Like they had
- 51:08Speaker 2: the music in the background, and they had the montage
- 51:12Speaker 2: They're trying to kind of duplicate that exact same thing here,
- 51:17Speaker 2: and like it just didn't hit as hard, but we
- 51:21Speaker 2: get a lot of really fun moments here. I just
- 51:24Speaker 2: wasn't really a fan of it because I feel like
- 51:28Speaker 2: there could have still been a lot of meaningful dialogue here,
- 51:33Speaker 2: like yeah, for one, freaking uh uh uh is it Ram?
- 51:40Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 51:41Speaker 2: Not? Is it Ram? Or is it uh Knighthood in
- 51:45Speaker 2: this Yes, that's a big moment. I wanted there to
- 51:49Speaker 2: be actual dialogue there, and there was nothing. We get
- 51:54Speaker 2: to see, of course, a lot of the goodbyes, the
- 52:02Speaker 2: really the goodbyes of Forzala uh uh and like the
- 52:10Speaker 2: main five characters of the entire series, like we get
- 52:14Speaker 2: this moment of them all getting into like a group hug.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Like I feel like there could have been a lot
- 52:19Speaker 2: of meaningful dialogue there. We didn't get it. But I
- 52:22Speaker 2: do like the like you said, the very last page,
- 52:27Speaker 2: the splash page of the kiss, like I enjoyed that.
- 52:29Speaker 2: I think that's a beautiful, beautiful moment. But like I like,
- 52:35Speaker 2: I'm the type of person that is like asking for like,
- 52:40Speaker 2: hey give me, I need to assure this more than
- 52:45Speaker 2: just art.
- 52:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I wanted a final moment with Cantum and Lula,
- 52:52Speaker 3: especially like especially after he's injured and she's like coming
- 52:56Speaker 3: to terms with it but then realizes, Okay, hey he's
- 52:59Speaker 3: not actually or excuse me, they are not actually that
- 53:02Speaker 3: I apologize. I wanted that final moment between them because
- 53:10Speaker 3: I felt like that was deserved, and that would have
- 53:13Speaker 3: been because ultimately, yes, we have a main five, but
- 53:20Speaker 3: Lula and Zene are kind of the main characters and
- 53:23Speaker 3: everybody else is kind of secondary. I feel like, so
- 53:29Speaker 3: getting that moment with Lula and Canton should have happened,
- 53:35Speaker 3: even if it was just a hug, like he's bandaged,
- 53:38Speaker 3: they are bandaged up, and Lula just comes and gives
- 53:45Speaker 3: them a hug like there should have There should have
- 53:49Speaker 3: been something that happened in my Yeah, but yeah, I
- 53:54Speaker 3: thought the issue was fine overall. There's some highlights that
- 53:59Speaker 3: we've kind of already talked about, but definitely, I feel
- 54:03Speaker 3: like this volume was one of Daniel jose Older's weaker
- 54:06Speaker 3: storytelling items. And I get that it's very hard to
- 54:10Speaker 3: say goodbye to characters that you've been working with for
- 54:14Speaker 3: several years at this point. Yeah, but I just wanted
- 54:18Speaker 3: a little bit more.
- 54:21Speaker 2: And hey, again, we know that this is not the
- 54:25Speaker 2: end of the Higher Republic. Only one could wish that, like, hey,
- 54:30Speaker 2: maybe we get a like three years later with all
- 54:35Speaker 2: of these characters, you know, which I still think would
- 54:38Speaker 2: be really fun.
- 54:39Speaker 3: So yeah, especially with what we get in the Beacon, like,
- 54:43Speaker 3: I think that's totally plausible.
- 54:47Speaker 2: But speaking of let's jump into Fear of the High
- 54:53Speaker 2: Republic again.
- 54:54Speaker 3: This is the Fear of the Jeddah.
- 54:56Speaker 2: Sorry, Fear of the jedis I don't know why I
- 55:00Speaker 2: said that. Of course this story does follow h Keef, Yeah,
- 55:10Speaker 2: Kiev and Skier and of course Lorna Dee and all
- 55:14Speaker 2: of those characters. This one does put like a hyper
- 55:18Speaker 2: focus on Kiev though she is in a uh more
- 55:25Speaker 2: prominent position. She is now a marshal in this in
- 55:31Speaker 2: this last volume, and we see the weight of that
- 55:36Speaker 2: responsibility with Kiev throughout this entire story.
- 55:41Speaker 3: And you and I had talked about when we did
- 55:44Speaker 3: Issues or excuse me not Issues volume one and volume two,
- 55:48Speaker 3: we had talked about how we saw Keiev Skier like
- 55:53Speaker 3: disdistancing herself from the order but realizing that, hey, I'm
- 55:58Speaker 3: a Jedi, I need to serve. I need to at
- 56:00Speaker 3: least figure out how to make this work for the
- 56:03Speaker 3: time being. And so in this it really comes to
- 56:06Speaker 3: a head because like, uh real, the reporter who we've
- 56:12Speaker 3: seen pop up and several items like, is like, hey,
- 56:16Speaker 3: Chancellor and Lina so has sent me to like stream
- 56:21Speaker 3: your efforts to the people so that they can know
- 56:24Speaker 3: that they're safe on the borders of the storm wall
- 56:27Speaker 3: and stuff. And Keiv's like, why do I have to
- 56:29Speaker 3: do this? I am a Jedi, I am not meant
- 56:32Speaker 3: to be in the public eye like I am meant
- 56:34Speaker 3: to be a side character, and I love that for her,
- 56:40Speaker 3: like a lot of people put together when she first
- 56:43Speaker 3: made an appearance in phase one, and I know you
- 56:46Speaker 3: haven't read Jedi Lost, but she pops up in Jedi
- 56:49Speaker 3: Loss Doku Jedi Lost as one of these things we
- 56:52Speaker 3: have read.
- 56:53Speaker 2: We have read, we have not.
- 56:56Speaker 3: You might have listened to it on your own then,
- 56:57Speaker 3: because we have not read it for this podcast.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Have we not?
- 57:02Speaker 3: Mm hmm?
- 57:08Speaker 2: Yeah, have I read it? I think it was recommended
- 57:13Speaker 2: by you and then I and then I listened to it.
- 57:17Speaker 2: I think that's what it was.
- 57:18Speaker 3: That might have been the thing, but we haven't like
- 57:20Speaker 3: directly talked about it.
- 57:23Speaker 2: Okay, So a lot of people saw it was coming.
- 57:27Speaker 3: In Fear of the Jedi really like High Republic Adventures
- 57:32Speaker 3: Volume five highlights far A Zala's integration with his fear.
- 57:38Speaker 3: This highlights Kiev's imposter syndrome, but also her true genuine
- 57:43Speaker 3: fear of Hey, the Jedi are not meant to be
- 57:48Speaker 3: what they are currently mm hm. And she really comes
- 57:55Speaker 3: to a head with that one. Uh. In this one,
- 57:57Speaker 3: we also have kel Naka making his technical first appearance
- 58:02Speaker 3: in a galaxy far far away, because this is the
- 58:04Speaker 3: earliest he's been in Star Wars, even though he is
- 58:08Speaker 3: an accolade character. No, I guess the kal Knaka issue
- 58:15Speaker 3: would be.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Kell Knaka is in uh oh what was the book? Uh?
- 58:23Speaker 2: I got two copies of uhh When they go to Kashik.
- 58:31Speaker 3: Was he a ro one?
- 58:34Speaker 2: Uh? Let me see, how do you spell his name?
- 58:41Speaker 3: K K E L N A C C.
- 58:47Speaker 5: A okay kal Knaka?
- 59:01Speaker 3: It was? It was what's his name? From the manga?
- 59:06Speaker 3: I thought, because I didn't think kal Knaka was a
- 59:11Speaker 3: thing at the time.
- 59:15Speaker 2: No, no, no, right here the blight of Kashik Okay silas
- 59:21Speaker 2: to Burialga Burrioga. He says, here kal Knaka and Burriaga
- 59:36Speaker 2: arrive at the vessel's location. Of course, on Kannaka, who
- 59:39Speaker 2: was either blah blah yeah is uh it says here that.
- 59:52Speaker 3: I forgot about that. But he's a main charter, I say,
- 59:57Speaker 3: main character. He makes him parents here as a genuine
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: side character because I think then in Tears of the
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: Nameless he just kind of goes off with Arcof and
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: Bury and kind of like focus on like listening to
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: the trees and hoping to prevent the blake from spreading there.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: I'm also gonna double check the characters in the Wookie,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: just a double check. This will probably be a little
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: easier if I control elf.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: But realistically, one of my favorite things about this is
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: other than Kiev's story, because I genuinely love Keev's story
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: in this series, but I also love I think Cavin
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Scott but tied in Tay Sarah the best out of
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: anyone who has tried to pull in Phase two characters
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: in my opinion. Say that again, Tay Sark the Purple Guy. Yeah,
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: I think Cavin Scott pulled in his Phase two character
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: the best.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: I agree, I one hundred agree. And I do really
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: enjoy his very small struggle you're because it does show
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: the weight that's on his shoulders all of these years.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: Yeah you know, And of course nobody would really understand
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: this unless they read the Marvel comic mhm. Again, this
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: is where it kind of got a little wonky with
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: adding his story and a dark Horse release mm hmm,
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: rather than finishing his story story in a Marvel Comics release.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: But I do like his addition to this volume. I
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: thought it was really, really nice.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Yeah. I love the play with vil dhar as one
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: of his fears, like disappointing his Jedi husband is Tayoserk's
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: biggest fear and knowing that he would be disappointed because
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: he pulled the glove that was his defining thing in
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: phase two. So what did you think about We've talked
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: about Lorna a great deal, so I don't know if
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I want to dwell on her too much, but we
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: get to see a culmination of her story and this
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: as well with the vamping of Donna pulling in those
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: plants uh people uh fall. I don't think they're fall nasty.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: But there are another force user type species that also
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: made the appearance in Dispatches from the Occlusion Zone in
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: that same comic that Sarah was in. Yeah, how did
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: you feel about the ending with Donna being that home
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: based planet.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: I really liked her like position in this book, more
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: so because, of course, like in the very beginning of
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: this book, we see her kind of like facing her fears,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: that being herself and how she used to be not
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: the princess but the the Nihill pirate, you know, and
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: it shows how much she has grown. Not only there
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: do we see how much she's grown. But even Kiev
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: reflects on a very important decision that Lorna makes on
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: her own. She destroys a night Hill ship that both
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Kiev and Master Yes, they both say, hey, don't do that.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: We're trying to save this individual. And Lorna de does
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: it anyway, and she hasn't technically a very valid point,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: like hey, without like in doing so, we get the
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: job done. We are literally like, I'm saving all of you,
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: I'm saving all of us, Like this would have lasted
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: so much longer if we like just prolonged this entire thing, right,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: And Kee even like reflects on that, and it's like, well,
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: I technically told her mmm, she says here, I led
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: her into battle. I told her, uh that she was
- 1:05:15Speaker 2: fighting for light life. And then I what should I do?
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: I punish her when she did what she thought was
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: right and what was needed, Like she did technically the
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: right thing, you know, in somebody's eyes and technically in
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: her eyes. It shows the growth and you can't punish
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: her for that. Yeah, going into where she's at in
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: the ending of the book, I'm very curious and this
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: is like a what of scenario, Like it's so funny
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: because she had such a set Timler story to Count
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Dooku with the royalty in her family and her name right,
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: and like, I'm very curious, does she at all attempt
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: to mend that or is it like, Hey, this is
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: my new self, this is my new life and this
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: is where I belong.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: I would say she doesn't need to mend it, she
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: needs to accept kind of where she's at. Yeah, and
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: going back into her path like that, especially with how
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: Ryloth and Twilight's in general are kind of abused in
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: the galaxy. I just wouldn't mess with it.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: I wouldn't mess with it. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: How did you take skiers arc through this?
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: There wasn't really a lot there.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: His art is kind of got done in the in
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: one through.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: Five and one, not only one through five. But you also,
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: of course look at uh uh oh shoot, what is
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Lorna D's audio drama first? Uh Phase three?
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Tempest Breaker?
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Yes, Tempest Breaker not Runner Runner was the phase one. Yeah,
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: so you get hit like his story is already over
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: and like you even get in a part of this story.
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: We get small conversations with uh Avar, and Avar is
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: asking uh Skier like hey, what do you think? And
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: he's like, I think she's uh, she being uh kiev
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: Is and I made Jedi, you know, and it's it's like, hey,
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: what do I think? I'm just a bystander here, like
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: my story. Like that's literally what it feels like is, hey,
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: my story's over. It's it's her time to.
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: Show and he wants her to be able to realize that.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: And imposter syndrome is a big thing that millennials face,
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: and even gen Z has kind of delved into it.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: So I think ke having imposter syndrome in this case
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: being a young Jedi and knowing, hey, I was the
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: smirched around, I was one of the most powerful, but
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: now all of a sudden, I've been thrust into this
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: actual position of power and I don't think I'm worthy
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: enough for this. Like that was huge for her, and
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: I applaud Cavin Scott for having the balls to really
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: incorporate that, because not a lot of male authors do
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: these days. Yeah, so I greatly appreciate that, But I
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: also think the skier and I love the ending for
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: these two when Keep goes off and goes, yeah, I'm
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: glad you're sticker around a dad like and physically calls him.
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: Dad that one. I was like, oh, like, I felt
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: it like it was a quick like kick to the ribs.
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: I was like, oh, but I do have to ask
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: about the elephant in the room. There's there's two elephants.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: There's two elephant number one, the nameless. How did you
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: feel about the dragon Cthulhu abomination flying through space that
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: ended up being an illusion? Like, how did you feel
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: about that? Particularly?
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: I thought it was a fake from the start when
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: I read this the first time, Yeah, because I really
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: felt like, hey, like, obviously I knew what we had
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: from Trials of the Jedi. A lot of people didn't
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: have Trials of the Jedi at the point reading coming out, Yeah,
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: but we did, and so I really just was like, Okay,
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: this is not legit. There's no way that Bulan modified
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: them enough to have wings and to get out there
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: in deep space.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: To be bigger than star destroyers. By the way, Yeah,
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: it was absolutely like I saw this and I kind
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: of laughed. Now, I do think that the scavroids was
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: a little eye rolly, especially when the larger one, like
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: that really big nameless ended up being an actually really
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: big Scavdroid. Kind of rolled my eyes at it. Again.
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: We talked about like the main theme of these two
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: books being that of fear. Of course we have to
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: kind of pass that along, ah, especially with this force
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: user I keep forgetting her name is Hutar, Yeah, being
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: able to manipulate the emotion of fear within a certain
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: like distance, you know whatever.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Yeah, and I guess technically so she is a fond Nazi,
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: which was gifted in the art of illusions. Yeah, we're
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: actually going to dive into those in the New Jedi
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: Order suit ish h. But Boolin modified her to give
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: the illusions of the Persians fear. Yeah, basically, so it's
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: not necessarily like.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: And that's how and that's how Like that's the really
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: big and the cater that like, hey, this isn't an
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: actual nameless because other people can also feel this fear, right,
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: And even Lorna d calls it out. It's like, hey,
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: like I'm not a force user, and my skin's crawling
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: all over the place, like what's going on? Right? Yeah?
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: So like I I had a chuckle with this giant
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: nameless thing. But I was like, okay, now the second
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: elephant Again, when people were reading this, they did not
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: have Trials of the Jedi. We have read Trials of
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: the Jedi before this Kiev. After all this said, Done
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: goes to Coroushant sees Uh. Sara is really excited to
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: see them, like, oh, yeah, I need to go catch
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: up with avar in in In you know, and they're like, uh,
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: you need to go talk to Yoda. It's like, what
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: do you mean, you just need to go talk to Yoda? Now,
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Sarah and Trek they know we don't fight we don't
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: talk about fight club because that was the rule. That
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: was the rule. Okay, that was the number one rule
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: that l's are put on the table. Hey you're gonna
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: leave us here and you're not going to tell anybody
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: about what needs to be done and why we need
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: to stay and all of this stuff, right, that was
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: the rule. And what does Yoda do? Yoda breaks that rule.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: The first person he talks to being Keye and the
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: reason why I know that he broke that rule because
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: the very first thing she says in that panel in
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: the Jedi Council room is I don't believe it and
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: there's no way to go back. He told her. And
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: this is why Yoda is the real villain of the story, guys,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: this is the reason Yoda. It's it's so it's it's
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: mind boggling how he can keep some secrets but then
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: can't keep others. You know, he was able to keep
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: for hundreds of years the the story of the Nameless
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: away from people. And then Hey, Keev, I'm actually gonna
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: tell you everything that happened on that planet, even though
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: I'm not supposed to.
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: Well in clearly I think you, like Yoda should. I
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: don't know if Yoda actually knows, though. Here's the thing.
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: Here's my argument is because okay, a, if he does know,
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: let's start there first before I dive into the other part.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: If he does know, I think he's trying to prove
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: to Key that she is worthy.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: Of being a council member, of.
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: Being a council member and knowing things and setting up
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: that faith in her.
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: I have a little bit of a problem with older
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: people in this like it, and this is this is
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: something that happens in real life, not just in Star
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: Wars comics. Yoda did this exact same thing, but before
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: Yoda did in this exact same volume, Avar Chris did
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: it to Key literally in the very first issue. It's like, oh,
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: but you are ready. It's like, no, the only person
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: that knows if they are ready is that individual. You
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: cannot warse that upon them. And that's exactly what they're
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: putting into Kiev's brain and that is ultimately why she
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: leaves like she liked.
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: So this is off my second point with going, I
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: don't know if Yoda really knows. Elsar makes the group
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: on the planet swear that they will not reveal what happened. Okay,
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: the Avar and Elsar are staying on the planet and
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: are going to balance out the force.
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: Here's the problem though, Sarah and Tarrek Terrek right, Terrek
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: was on the planet. H huh, Sarah wasn't, but they
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: still had the bond they bill could talk together.
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: But Sarah was in the ship with Team B to
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: go get them.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Yes, no, no, no, wait, hold on, say they again.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: So Sarah was on the ship with Vernestra and Team
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: B to go get them from the nameless planet.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: Yes, but Terrek was still there when els Are talked
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: to them.
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: I didn't know if he was though, because I think
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to go back and look. But I'm
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: fairly certain.
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: Was this before because because Trek was unconscious. Was he unconscious?
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: He was unconscious, and so they lost the bond. And
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: so that's why decides to make the move to have
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: Team B go down to the planet is because they
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: lost the communication and so they knew.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: I wish I wish that Charles or Tom was just
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: like readily available to be like, Hey, we have questions.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: Can you answer this answer?
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: No? But okay, So I don't know if Yoda actually knows.
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: And so Keith might be saying and there's no way
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: to go back is because they had to leave the
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: bodies behind on Yeah, she could totally be in that
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: vein like I want to give my friends a burial
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: they deserve. Is like the heroes, it's not. I think
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: it's open to interpretation here. I'm not defending Yoda, because
- 1:18:50Speaker 3: I do agree he has been that villainous of late,
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: but I do think there's not enough information.
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: Here to know true very true. Now, this ultimately leads
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: to the very ending of this book being for well
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: for one. Before we get into that, we get a
- 1:19:15Speaker 2: very cute sighting in the very ending of this book,
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: we get our friends from Young Jedi Adventures. I love
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: the addition here, and it does technically make sense, just
- 1:19:30Speaker 2: for the fact that, like, I think around this time,
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: we probably could have gotten more of the idea of
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: like who they were probably going to be matched with,
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: especially with them like starting to train more into getting
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: a master. So them being at this party I think
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: is really really fun. But we ultimately get the scene
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: where Key is saying goodbye to the Jedi order she
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: sees the writing on the wall. Everything that she is
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: talking about comes to fruition with and oh, go ahead.
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: And that's why common Scott makes her a focal point
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: in the Yoda comic is because she is the Haunt,
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: because she saw everything coming that happens.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: She sees what eventually becomes the Phantom Menace, what becomes
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: the Clone Wars, like she does not want to be
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: the Jedi that has to lead into battle. She understands
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: that like, hey, like, we are no longer just going
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: to be a keeper of peace. We are going to
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: be an army. And I am not okay with that.
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: Because one thing that I quickly picked up on is
- 1:21:04Speaker 2: the very first few pages of this book she is
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: defending random civilians in space and she accidentally kills Nihil
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: and she is so mad about it. That's the first
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: indicator that's like, Okay, what's going on, Like what's inside
- 1:21:23Speaker 2: your head? Kiev. Then when Lorna makes her decision, Keev
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: gets even more distraught and says, hey, I said I
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: didn't want to have any casualties. I didn't want to
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: kill anybody. And we see that Keev is going down
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: this road of like hey, like and not even going
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: down the road. It's literally what the Jedi were born
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: to be. Like, It's it's not like the lightsaber is
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: literally a last resort. It's supposed to be a last
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: resort and only use for defense. And you take that
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: mentality with any weapon that is at your disposal, that
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: of course being a ship as well. These vectors, so
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: like knowing like hey, seeing the writing on the wall
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: and her saying like, hey, I'm giving this up because
- 1:22:22Speaker 2: I just can't I can't do that. I think this
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: is a very valid point. You know. We asked ourselves,
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: the entire High Republic run what is it going to be?
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: What's going to get her to finally say I'm out?
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: We said it even in trials, We're like, hey, it's
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: not here, like, so what is it? What is it
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: that finally gets her to finally say no, this is enough.
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: This did not disappoint, this was a valid reason, and
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: you know her hindsight being like, hey, this is going
- 1:23:02Speaker 2: to happen. I really would love to see, like, well,
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: I'm not entirely sure if this is like really what
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: I want to see, but like where did she end
- 1:23:17Speaker 2: up after this? You know? Because we do we do
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: see in some aspects of the Higher Republic, that being,
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: of course, the what was the prequel to Acolyte book
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Vernestra story, we saw one of the Jedi there tie
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: we saw her of course, being somebody who left the council,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: Like what is what is Keith gonna do? You know?
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: I I would like to just know, like if it's
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: just like a small little like snippet in a in
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: a new like encycloped, yeah, like hey, she's decided to
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: go live here and do this, Like I think that
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: would be satisfying enough for me just to kind of
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: see where her head is at and like what direction
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: she wants to go.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: I would agree, I don't know if I would see
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: that happening, though I would love to know where she
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: ended up. I just don't know if that's gonna happen
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: just because it like as part of the Lost twenty,
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: it wouldn't like it would be like a one off story,
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: like there would be no Jedi involvement, because Yoda even
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: says in the Yoda comic, I wonder what happened to her?
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: So I just don't see it happening.
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: Hey, you never know? You Yeah, we could, we could.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: We could see an ancestor or like a a A
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: not an ancestor. What's the opposite the A legacy character? Yeah,
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: of you know her lineage like oh you know, my
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: great great great great grandmother was Kiev in the High Republic,
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: Like yeah, oh damn, you know, but that's very unlikely.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: But still this was a very satisfying ending for me.
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I love this ending. Again, I just want to
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: highlight Sarah in this Sarah is probably my second favorite
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: character in this book. I just I thought he was
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: super special in Phase two and I'm glad he was
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: able to come back in and again Calvin Scott killed it,
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: uh with bringing him in and tying him into the
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: overall story.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: So also, I want to apologize because we jumped into
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: this book without talking about the credits.
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, we did shoot Kevin.
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: Scott being the writer, uh Marika Cresta being the artist,
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: Jim Campbell being the color artist, v c's Arianna Meyer
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: being the letterer, Phil Noto being the cover artist, and
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: special thanks just you know, oh it actually does have
- 1:26:17Speaker 2: a special thing that's hilarious. Mikey J. Bosso for the
- 1:26:20Speaker 2: special thanks. But we don't say these enough. The editors
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: Danny Kazim and Drew bumb Gardner Bomb Gardner, and the
- 1:26:32Speaker 2: senior editor being Mark Panika Panicia. Sorry. Uh these people
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: are literally the people that are able to put this
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: book together. That being they are the ones that are
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: also getting in contact with canonical Star Wars Bible people
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: like they have to be on top of it with
- 1:26:56Speaker 2: with those types of things.
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: So, always appreciate the editors on these.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: Books and just as like some special art shout out
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: this variant with Kiev and Skier by Carlo Pegoulion, Jason
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: Paz and Rain Burrito. I just love the artwork in
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: this very very realistic vibes. Christa's art in this is
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: pretty good. Definitely, I don't think compares two. I think
- 1:27:32Speaker 3: Ario and Nido, who did most of the art in
- 1:27:36Speaker 3: Phase one and the first ten issues of this run.
- 1:27:42Speaker 3: But like, look at this.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: This I couldn't like, I didn't really like truly appreciate
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: it because mine was digital. But yeah, I love the
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: splash page. Like even though like I said, I got
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: a little chuckle out of the out of the Giant
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: Cuthulhu nameless it was, it was still really cool.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: This piece right here with Sarah holding vil Dar's lightsaber
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: of all things. Yeah, I did not see that coming that.
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: So here's here's the thing. Here's the thing though. One
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: thing that I thought was that immediately ran through my
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: head is the very first time we see these characters
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: starting to hallucinate. Lorna Dee is attacking herself and then
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: she realizes that it's actually Kalnaka's padawan. He starts to
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: hallucinate in the ship and he actually strikes him down
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: with the lightsaber. Who did he accidentally kill his droid? No,
- 1:28:52Speaker 2: because he smashes the droid beforehand. He yes, he's matches
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: the droid beforehand, and then like then he gets like
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: a moment to mourn the droid afterward.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: Oh maybe because it's a different engine, like it's not well,
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: I don't know, because definitely a lot of illusions on
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: the ship like Hutar for instance, was a straight up
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: illusion like there was nobody around her, yeah and stuff.
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: So who knows, but I think like there's still again,
- 1:29:49Speaker 2: like just going through these pages, there's a cover with Avar,
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: Chris and Lorna d that I absolutely love. Looks amazing. Yeah,
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: I think this was an excellent ending to a Uh.
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: I just wanted to point out this page with all
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: the ships coming in in kel Naka to come to Ariado,
- 1:30:11Speaker 3: this is the first time the Tagruda are mentioned. The Tagruda,
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: We're supposed to be a big part of the High
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: Republic and just kind of like dipped off after Rises
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: Rising Storm. So this first time they come back into
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: the party.
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: Who are the Tagrudas? Oh yeah, okay, yeah that's right.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: And then.
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: Yeah that page, this flash page is also great on
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: the Beacon, Yes, with everybody kind of just partying and stuff.
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: Super cool.
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: Okay, I think that's it.
- 1:30:59Speaker 2: Yeah. Still, I think a very good ending to a
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: long running initiative. Again, it's not the end. We're still
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: getting the is it dark Horse uh or is it
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Marvel Comics that's getting I think it's dark Horse. Okay, Yeah,
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: we are getting. I think it's like a two years
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: later type of thing. I'll have to look back at
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: that announcement, especially.
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: It's Phase two. It's not Phase it's not Phase three.
- 1:31:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's two years after Phase two. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: so we're still like one hundred years before or fifty
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: technically forty eight I think years return to.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: The higher public. Okay, this is twenty years.
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: Oh twenty I knew there was a two in there. Yeah.
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: I was like, wait, what are you talking about? I
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: thought two years was a little fast.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: So that would mean that it's because remind me again,
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: phase two is fifty years prior or one hundred.
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: And fifty years, one hundred and fifty years.
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: One hundred and fifty years prior to Phase one, so
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: this means that it's one hundred and thirty years prior
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: to Phase one now, so we'll see where we stand there.
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: Yeah, and this is this is a six issue comic series,
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: so it is a MIDI run. It's not it's not
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: an ongoing yeah, which I think dark Horse typically does.
- 1:32:48Speaker 2: They do more of the mini series. They don't really
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: have uh ongoing stuff anymore.
- 1:32:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and I do. I do have a little more
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: confidence in dark Horse, because dark Horse has been turned
- 1:33:00Speaker 3: them out and getting stuff out on time. Not necessarily
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: the volumes, but the comic issues themselves have greatly improved
- 1:33:08Speaker 3: on their on sticking to their original release dates.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: So yeah, all right, well that is it for this recording.
- 1:33:22Speaker 2: So of course this will be dropping on Thursday. Sorry
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: we couldn't do live, but we will be uh not
- 1:33:33Speaker 2: returning until the New Year.
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: Happy New Year, Merry Christmas.
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, I think the only time you guys will
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: hear back from us again will be a Patreon recording,
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: that being the New Jedi Adventures Book six, so balance
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: points check that out. I still need to get my
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: physical copy. I got my digital copy because I'm a
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: freak and I don't know why I've been doing this
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: to myself. But like, also I just want to say,
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: like the fact that I am able to purchase both
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: copies for literally sixteen dollars combined is nice. Like getting
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: an eight dollar copy physical and then eight dollar copy
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: digital is not breaking the bank. And of course I'm
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: using my Plasma donation funds to fund this little ordeal
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: that we're doing. So yeah, with that, guys again, Merry Christmas,
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: Happy New Year. We will see you guys in the
- 1:34:41Speaker 2: new year. It's gonna be very fun. I do believe
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: that there actually will be a new trailer for Mandoin
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: Grogu attached to Avatar. I'm not gonna go see it,
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: so I'm not gonna go see it. So we may
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: be talking about that when we return in the new year.
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you can look first January seventh live on the
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: geek First YouTube channel.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: That's my birthday.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: Yeah, happy birthday.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Yeah, So so it expect us to be there. Of course,
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: you can always find us or me on any and
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: all social media. Again, with this new job, you might
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: be seeing a little less of me, but we will
- 1:35:30Speaker 2: still try to stick with of course the socials. But yeah, Katie,
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: what about.
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: You, y'all? You can fobb me on most social media
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: problems at Slazer Katie, remember this shows month blue guide
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: Twitter and not Twitter threads and Instagram's at Star Wars Alliance,
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: at the eight and the worldst very important, I'll forget it.
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: You can PLoP that same username in front of at
- 1:35:53Speaker 3: gmail dot com and shoot us an email. Remember to
- 1:35:58Speaker 3: give us a way to refer to you so we
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: don't have to share your email as your nickname. Uh,
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: but yeah, we got a lot of fun stuff coming
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: next year. We're gonna be revisiting man do We're gonna
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: be diving into all the new things that are coming
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: out for shows, like we already have the new the
