- 1:02Join us in this broadcast, Perfect Peace, as Kim Miller brings us a message
- 1:08out of Isaiah 26-3, which says, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
- 1:14whose mind is stayed on thee,
- 1:16because he trusteth in thee.
- 1:19Hello and welcome to this broadcast of Woman at the Well Ministries,
- 1:22and I believe if you were on the street and asking those who you came into contact
- 1:27with with one thing they would be seeking in their life, no matter what time of year it is,
- 1:31you would find them to probably come around to something that would lead you
- 1:35to believe that they're looking for peace.
- 1:39Millions of dollars are spent each year in people seeking to find peace.
- 1:43The Lord has given us amazing doctors and incredible medicine to help us when
- 1:48we have problems, but many times we go to that a little too early, perhaps.
- 1:55And oftentimes we've placed our trust in a bottle or we've placed our trust
- 1:59in man and we have forgotten to place our trust in God.
- 2:04The Bible says in Isaiah chapter 26 and verse 3, he says that thou will keep him in perfect peace.
- 2:12As Erica read this a little earlier in your hearing, I was thinking about how
- 2:17amazing it is that he says if we just keep our mind stayed on thee.
- 2:22And the point to ponder that we want to talk about in this time we have together
- 2:27is that if you're seeking peace in your life, check your focus.
- 2:34It echoed in my ears as I heard her read, whose mind is stayed on thee because he trusteth in thee.
- 2:42The opening of that verse says that's what's going to keep you in perfect peace.
- 2:47And so oftentimes in our lives, we take our eyes off of Jesus.
- 2:52There's a beautiful old hymn called Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.
- 2:58Look steadfast in his wonderful face, and the things of this world will grow strangely dim.
- 3:06That is such a true, true, true piece of the gospel of Christ.
- 3:12Because when we begin to keep our mind focused on Christ, then the things of
- 3:18this world seem not to matter. Let us pray.
- 3:22Our kind and most gracious, dear Heavenly Father, Lord, Lord,
- 3:25I just pray that you would just stir within the hearts of all of us that peace
- 3:30that passeth understanding and that joy unspeakable and full of glory that comes only from you.
- 3:36I pray, Lord, that your presence would be seen and heard in this message,
- 3:40that we would be able, Lord, to turn our eyes upon you and that we would have
- 3:44our focus be solely and wholly upon you,
- 3:47not for just the few moments that we are together, but from this time forward, Lord, Lord,
- 3:52that our lives would be steadfastly focused upon you.
- 3:56Lord, allow us to put our trust in you in such a way that we have peace and joy in our lives.
- 4:04Lord, we thank you for your presence in our life. We thank you,
- 4:07Lord, that you've invited us to sup with you and to visit with you and to spend our time with you.
- 4:13Lord, now just help our hearts to desire that and that we would stay in your
- 4:19presence and in your perfect will.
- 4:21In Jesus' name we pray, and amen.
- 4:25Our point to ponder, as I said previously, is what does it mean to trust in God?
- 4:31But our point to ponder is if you're seeking peace in your life, check your focus.
- 4:37You see, that seems to be all the same thing. If we are focused on God,
- 4:42then we're placing our trust in Him.
- 4:44If we're not focused on God, then what happens is we find ourselves looking
- 4:49around about us for many things that the world would put inside our minds or
- 4:54put in front of us that would give us this false sense of security or perhaps
- 4:58this false sense of what we should be doing.
- 5:01And what it really is doing is just moving us a little further and further and
- 5:06further away from the truth.
- 5:08The truth is the word of God. And it's his truth that we must have in our hearts.
- 5:14That will allow us to believe and know who he is, that we'd be able to place
- 5:19our faith and trust in him.
- 5:20You see, we are so reminded of how important it is to place our faith in God when we think of Peter.
- 5:27Peter found himself in a boat, and he was there, and he was with some other
- 5:33people, and when he looks out in the water, he begins to see all kinds of storm.
- 5:39The waves are no doubt rolling.
- 5:41Terror is building up in his heart and it's building up in
- 5:44his mind and he looks out across the sea and he sees a figure one that is likened
- 5:49to the son of god and when he looks out and he sees this figure that is likened
- 5:53to the son of god he can't even figure out that it's god but he knows that god
- 5:58is the answer and he looks out and he says lord if that be you bid me come.
- 6:02Jesus bids him come and that water is still tumultuous the waves are still high the storm still raging.
- 6:11And he steps out of the boat and he begins to look at God and he keeps his eyes
- 6:17and his mind focused solely, wholly upon Jesus.
- 6:20And in doing so, he's able to walk on the water in free safety.
- 6:25The storm has no effect on him. But suddenly, his mind begins to waver and his
- 6:33eyes began to look away from God to the storm, to the sea.
- 6:38Logic begins to creep in, and he realizes he's a man that cannot walk on water,
- 6:43and he has stopped looking at God completely, and he plunges.
- 6:47But in his heart, he knows where the answer is. And so he lifts his hands up
- 6:51and he says, Lord, save me.
- 6:53The scripture says immediately the Lord reaches down and he saves him and he.
- 6:58Brings him safely to the boat.
- 7:00The point of this message is for us to ponder that if we're seeking peace in
- 7:07our life, we need to focus on Christ.
- 7:10And it's so clearly represented in Peter, because as soon as he took his eyes
- 7:14off of God, The storms of life literally engulfed him.
- 7:19So often in our lives, when we take our eyes off of Jesus, the storms of life will engulf us.
- 7:27When we begin to depend upon our own intellect and our own abilities,
- 7:33we quickly find that we don't have the answer and we cannot do it.
- 7:37And suddenly we find ourselves plunging to the depths of despair with no peace to be found.
- 7:43And we will wallow in that and we
- 7:46will spiral continually downward until suddenly something within us will turn
- 7:52their eyes upon jesus and then we remember what it means to trust in god the
- 7:59bible says in romans chapter 14 and verse 23 and he that doubteth is damned.
- 8:08Because he eateth not a face for whatsoever
- 8:11is not a face is sin and when
- 8:15we're careful and the bible says be careful for nothing but in everything by
- 8:20prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto
- 8:23god and the peace of god which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts
- 8:28and minds through christ jesus that passage in philippians chapter 4 verses
- 8:326 through 7 tells us we don't need to worry.
- 8:35And when we're not worrying, and when we are praising God at all times,
- 8:40through the good times, through the bad times, through the scary times, then we have peace.
- 8:45It's hard to be scared when you're sure. Do you hear me?
- 8:49It's hard to be scared when you're sure.
- 8:53And when we are sure of who we serve, and we are sure of his ability,
- 8:58and we are completely confident of who
- 9:01he is and we are completely confident that
- 9:04he has our best interest at heart and that he ever liveth to take care of us
- 9:10and to hold us and to comfort us and that all he asks is that we follow and
- 9:15that he knows the way because he is the way when we are fully confident of that
- 9:19it's hard pressed for you to worry and incredibly difficult.
- 9:25To not have peace you see that peace isn't something someone else is going to understand,
- 9:30it's between you and god and if you're worrying and you're fretting and you're
- 9:35wringing your hands and you just don't know how you're going to make it you
- 9:39gotta check your focus but perhaps more importantly you need to check your relationship with christ.
- 9:46For when you are able to say, it is well with my soul, it's hard-pressed to not have peace.
- 9:55The wonderful songwriter who wrote that was going through horrible turmoil. He had lost his family.
- 10:02He had lost all. And instead of wallowing in self-pity, he wrote the song, it is well with my soul.
- 10:09When sea billows roll, when troubles roll like sea billows and there's trouble
- 10:17all around, it is well with my soul.
- 10:21It is my heart's desire that I would have that kind of faith.
- 10:25Because you see, what could make a man write a song like that when he had lost
- 10:29it all was his faith in a God that could not fail.
- 10:32He didn't understand why it had to be his family. I'm sure he didn't understand
- 10:37why he lost his children.
- 10:39But he understood that a God that could not fail, who loved him immensely,
- 10:44who had a plan to prosper him and to give him a hope, who understood all things,
- 10:49who wanted him to have the best that's possible for him,
- 10:53had let all of that happen, and he had not left him, and he could come to him
- 10:58and attain help in that time of trouble, and he could place his faith in God,
- 11:02and he'd be fully confident that God was in control,
- 11:06and that Jesus loved him, and that all would be well.
- 11:09He was able to write a song in peace, though the world could never have understood it.
- 11:14Nothing changed as far as his family. They didn't come back.
- 11:18But he had a peace that passeth understanding and a joy unspeakable and full
- 11:23of glory because he has totally relied upon God and fully placed his confidence in him.
- 11:31Now, I pray that no one in the sound of this message ever goes through anything
- 11:36like that songwriter went through.
- 11:39But I pray you have his faith. I pray you have his confidence in God.
- 11:46I pray that when you pillow your head at night, that you can say, it is well with my soul.
- 11:52I pray that when you get up in the morning, that you can say,
- 11:55my God and I are one, and he loves me and I love him. Lord, where shall I go today?
- 12:01I pray that as you go through your day, you're able to say, Hey,
- 12:05Lord, thanks for being with me.
- 12:08Thanks for supplying my every need. Thanks for giving me the strength to get through the day.
- 12:13Lord, I'm not so happy about what I see going on, but thanks be to God. I'm not alone.
- 12:19I pray that your confidence is placed in him in such a way that you realize
- 12:23what the writer wrote in Philippians chapter four,
- 12:27when he said, but my God shall supply all of your need according to his riches
- 12:33in glory I pray that you'll ponder this point if you're seeking peace in your
- 12:39life check your focus he's already there.
