Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, here we go. It's a list. It's a
- 0:04Speaker 1: massive list.
- 0:05Speaker 2: A continuation of a list.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's a massive list that we've been covering for the
- 0:09Speaker 1: last few days. It's the top 100 television shows of
- 0:14Speaker 1: the 21st century. So from 2000 to today. All right.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's radio from hell with another list.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Because people love a good list.
- 0:25Speaker 4: X96.
- 0:25Speaker 1: This was compiled by the New York Times, and they
- 0:28Speaker 1: didn't just sort of arbitrarily do this. They send out
- 0:31Speaker 1: over 500 ballots to TV show actors, writers, producers, showrunners,
- 0:36Speaker 1: and had them weigh in on what they thought the
- 0:39Speaker 1: best TV shows have been since the year 2000. We
- 0:42Speaker 1: left off with number 61. RuPaul's Drag Race. Remember that?
- 0:50Speaker 1: So we'll go to number 60 now. Peep Show. Something
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'd not ever heard of, but it was created by
- 0:55Speaker 1: Jesse Armstrong before he did Succession. And it was a
- 1:00Speaker 1: British comedy, unusual comedy, and people just loved it. And
- 1:05Speaker 1: I think you didn't see it much here.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I didn't. I've never heard of it.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I think it was available on Amazon Prime. Number 59. Oh,
- 1:17Speaker 1: it's Pen15.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Don't say it.
- 1:21Speaker 4: It's supposed to look like.
- 1:24Speaker 5: That's the name of the.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Show is Pen15.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, it's supposed to look like penis.
- 1:28Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a good show.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Yeah. David Cross is the one they cite here is
- 1:34Speaker 1: loving it. He said it was great. Oh, you know,
- 1:37Speaker 1: it's interesting, too. You can click on his full ballot
- 1:40Speaker 1: and see what else he picked.
- 1:41Speaker 5: See what else he picked?
- 1:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's kind of an interesting, they've really done extensive
- 1:45Speaker 1: work here.
- 1:45Speaker 5: You better put Better Call Saul on there.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Well, yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 5: His friend Bob Bodenkirk.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Oh, I'm sure. Number 58, Chappelle Show.
- 1:53Speaker 5: It was good, yes.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Number 57, I Think You Should Leave. Oh, yes. It's
- 1:58Speaker 1: that oddball Tim Robinson.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I love the one where he says, what's the matter,
- 2:04Speaker 3: can't you drive?
- 2:05Speaker 2: No, I can't drive.
- 2:07Speaker 1: In the picture here, he's dressed as a hot dog.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the famous meme.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So there you go. Oh, the co-creator, D.B. Weiss, co-creator
- 2:17Speaker 1: of Game of Thrones, said, I love this show. Let's see,
- 2:21Speaker 1: number 56, Nathan For You. Again, it's Nathan Fielder.
- 2:25Speaker 5: He's making Gina uncomfortable again.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I keep trying.
- 2:29Speaker 5: I'll watch the movie.
- 2:31Speaker 4: It just sounds too important to not see, but he
- 2:35Speaker 4: just makes me cry.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Number 55, here's something I don't know, Insecure, Issa Rae. Yes. Insecure.
- 2:42Speaker 5: It's a comedy.
- 2:44Speaker 1: And, yeah, it was on... HBO. Yeah, HBO. Number 54,
- 2:50Speaker 1: The Bureau. Another show I didn't... I'm really not familiar
- 2:54Speaker 1: with at all. It was available on Paramount and AMC +.
- 2:59Speaker 4: See, like, I keep going back to Modern Family specifically,
- 3:02Speaker 4: being so much further down on the list than some
- 3:05Speaker 4: of these that I... I mean, maybe it's not fair
- 3:07Speaker 4: because I haven't seen them, but You're right.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Number 53, Stranger Things.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Again, I would put Modern Family ahead.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Stranger Things, but you have to... Stranger Things was a phenomenon.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It really was. It was just a juggernaut.
- 3:25Speaker 5: First season, at least.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Number 52, Downton Abbey. Number 51, The Good Place, which
- 3:32Speaker 1: was a brilliant show.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Great show.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Michael Schur with Ted Danson and what's her name?
- 3:37Speaker 2: Kristen Bell.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Kristen Bell. Number 50, Parks and Recreation. Yep. Very good. Yep.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Some of these are instantly rewatchable.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely. This little clip they have from it just
- 3:53Speaker 1: features Ron Swanson and his circular desk going around and
- 3:57Speaker 1: around in his chair. Let's see. Number 49, Normal People.
- 4:01Speaker 1: I don't.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Know.
- 4:05Speaker 5: That sounds familiar.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Paul Muskell, Daisy Edgar Jones.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that's based on a book.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Sally Rooney's book.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I was going to say, I don't think of that
- 4:13Speaker 2: as a series. It was a limited series. I don't
- 4:15Speaker 2: think it was a full.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Twelve episodes.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Just one, though.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Twelve episodes. Alexis Bledel loved it, so there you go.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Number 48, House of Cards, which was great until... It wasn't.
- 4:27Speaker 1: It fell apart for the last season because he was gone. And,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, for whatever else.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Kevin Spacey.
- 4:35Speaker 1: He was that show, and he was really good. Number 47,
- 4:39Speaker 1: Twin Peaks, The Return.
- 4:40Speaker 5: The Return?
- 4:42Speaker 1: Yes. Let's see who voted for that. Brett Goldstein from
- 4:48Speaker 1: Ted Lasso. He loved it.
- 4:50Speaker 5: I mean, there were a couple of episodes that were.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Good, but....
- 4:54Speaker 1: Just tell me when to stop and I'll stop. 46,
- 4:57Speaker 1: Broad City. I never watched that.
- 4:59Speaker 5: That was funny.
- 4:59Speaker 2: I think it's... Carrie plays some clips from that.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I always thought it was... I thought, oh, I think
- 5:04Speaker 1: that shows for women. So I didn't watch it. Broad?
- 5:07Speaker 1: Is it for broads? It's called Broad City. Number 45.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I don't know this one. Happy Valley.
- 5:12Speaker 5: Yeah, it was one season.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It took place in the shadow of the suicide of
- 5:18Speaker 1: a young woman who was dominated by an unrelenting battle
- 5:21Speaker 1: to bring justice to... The sociopathic criminal she held responsible
- 5:26Speaker 1: for her daughter's suicide.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:28Speaker 1: That sounds pretty grim. Number 44, show I should have
- 5:32Speaker 1: watched and never did, BoJack Horseman. Oh, so good. One
- 5:36Speaker 1: day I think I will. I'll just start with the
- 5:38Speaker 1: first episode and start watching it. Yeah. Number 43, one
- 5:41Speaker 1: of my favorites, Peaky Blinders. Great show. Which is coming back.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Is it? Yes.
- 5:47Speaker 5: In some form.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Well, there was a movie. Is that what you're thinking of?
- 5:51Speaker 1: No, they're coming back with a... It's either a prequel
- 5:54Speaker 1: or a sequel. I can't remember. Number 42, Hacks.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Yay.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Great show. 41. Again, problematic, but sure was good while
- 6:03Speaker 1: it was there. Louie.
- 6:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Very funny. It was a good show.
- 6:09Speaker 1: Number 40, Adolescence.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Oh, one of the best. I mean, so hard, but
- 6:15Speaker 2: one of the best series ever.
- 6:17Speaker 1: There you go, Kerry. 39, Watchmen.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Yes.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Oh, man. It was so good. Number 38, Homeland, which
- 6:25Speaker 1: I finally watched. It was excellent. Battlestar Galactica, number 37.
- 6:30Speaker 1: There you go, Terry. With Edward James Olmos. And number 36,
- 6:36Speaker 1: The Pit.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Great show.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Number 35, True Detective.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Great show. Which one?
- 6:44Speaker 1: The first one.
- 6:44Speaker 5: The first season? Yeah, first season was the.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Best one, really. Number 34, Schitt's Creek. Yes. Yes. That
- 6:51Speaker 1: show just was a slow burn.
- 6:53Speaker 5: What is that? It was hard to find.
- 6:56Speaker 1: It was on that weird network. Let's see, number 33.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I don't know this really. Enlightened? Mike White created it
- 7:07Speaker 1: before The White Lotus. Laura Dern as Amy Jellicoe, a
- 7:10Speaker 1: corporate cog trying to grind the gears of late capitalism.
- 7:13Speaker 1: She grinds herself. The series canceled before a planned third season.
- 7:18Speaker 2: No memory of that.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Number 32, Andor. Yes.
- 7:21Speaker 2: 31.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Really, really good. There you go, Kerry. 31, Survivor. It's
- 7:29Speaker 1: way up there.
- 7:30Speaker 5: That's higher than it should be.
- 7:31Speaker 1: 30, Severance.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Severance is a great show.
- 7:35Speaker 1: 29, Key & Peele. I love that show. Yes.
- 7:38Speaker 5: I re-watch Key & Peele.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I was going to say, that's a re-watcher.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I wish they still did it. Let's see. Number 28. Oh, God.
- 7:46Speaker 1: This was good. Band of Brothers. Really just... Amazing. An
- 7:51Speaker 1: amazing World War II series. Number 27, Better Call Saul. Yes.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Number 26, Black Mirror. Yeah. 25, The Leftovers. Very good.
- 8:01Speaker 2: Very good.
- 8:02Speaker 5: Yeah, The Leftovers was depressing.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Number 24, one of my favorites, Deadwood.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Love Deadwood.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I need to go back and watch Deadwood. My son
- 8:13Speaker 1: did that. I would be watching Deadwood and my wife
- 8:15Speaker 1: would not come in and watch it because she heard
- 8:17Speaker 1: the language. And then for some reason, one day she
- 8:19Speaker 1: sat down, started to watch it and said, oh boy,
- 8:22Speaker 1: I've really been missing out here. Yes.
- 8:23Speaker 5: But her enemy, Garrett Dillahunt, is on it.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's when he became her. He's in two different
- 8:28Speaker 1: roles on there. And that's when he became her nemesis.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Number 23, The Comeback, which is pretty funny. Lisa Kudrow.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Number 22, Lost. Really made an impact. It did. Sort
- 8:43Speaker 1: of fell apart as it went along. Number 21, The
- 8:46Speaker 1: White Lotus. And I don't, yeah, with Stifler's mother. Yeah.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Jennifer Coolidge.
- 8:57Speaker 1: One more. That's it. That's where it stops.
- 8:59Speaker 5: Oh, that's where it ends?
- 9:00Speaker 2: There'll be more tomorrow.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Tomorrow. So we got the final 20 coming up.
- 9:06Speaker 3: There's a show that probably won't be on the list
- 9:09Speaker 3: that I think should be called Difficult People.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I've never heard of that one either.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I've heard of it.
- 9:14Speaker 1: What is it? Very funny.
- 9:15Speaker 3: It's Julie Klausner. And that guy who's Billy on the street,
- 9:21Speaker 3: the guy who yells.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Billy Eichner?
- 9:22Speaker 1: Billy Eichner.
- 9:23Speaker 5: Oh, God, it's just funny.
- 9:25Speaker 1: I think I saw some of those. So funny.
- 9:27Speaker 5: All right.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Well, there you go.
- 9:29Speaker 5: We'll finish the list up hopefully tomorrow, right?
