- 0:44SPEAKER_02: I am very, very excited, as I always am for some reason.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: Well, it's because I bring on the best brands.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: Let's be honest.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: That's why.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: So that's why I'm excited.
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: Um, and I have another one today.
- 0:56SPEAKER_02: And this one is really, really, really great.
- 0:59SPEAKER_02: Like you guys are gonna fall in love with the product.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: So um without further ado, I want to introduce you guys to the founder of JTAV Clinical Skin Care, Joey Tavernice.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the show, Joey.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: I can't wait to talk about you and your products.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Hi, I can thank you so much for having me on.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited to be here.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Such a pleasure.
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, the honor is mine and the pleasure is mine.
- 1:25SPEAKER_02: I am so, so psyched.
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: And I really meant that, you know, for everyone listening.
- 1:28SPEAKER_02: Um, Joey is a New York City-based skin expert and she's a medical aesthetician.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: So she's a lot of other things, you know, wears a lot of hats, other than just, you know, the founder of JTAV.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: So I'm really excited to dive in and learn from you, Joey.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: Um, I want to get started by you telling us about, you know, your your journey as a as a licensed, you know, professional as an as an expert.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: How did it all begin?
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: I absolutely love sharing that when I was young, I don't know if this is something that other aestheticians could also relate to.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: I struggled with acne.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: And in my teens, I would spend hours creating my own, you know, masks and serums.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: And I didn't have many hobbies at the time.
- 2:18SPEAKER_01: I lost my mom at an early age, and my father raised me.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: So he wasn't the type of man that I would ask, you know, take me to a dermatologist or where can I get a facial?
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: It just wasn't something that we discussed.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I remember it was a huge struggle for me, but I took time to care for my skin.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: And then finally, when I was 19, I went to Los Angeles and I was searching for the best facialist, and I found an herbalist who spent hours on my skin.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: She alternated between like cold and hot devices, all things that were very new to me.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: And she spoke about vitamins and my diet and hormones, and it clicked for me, and I realized that I really needed to take care of everything as a whole and to be more confident in my skin.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: And from there, just I went, I went to college, and I honestly was not a very good student.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: I was very easily distracted, and I just didn't have the support, I feel like, at that time.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: And so I finished studying psychology with a two-year degree, and I, you know, quickly raced out of there and I said, I'm going to become an aesthetician.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: And at 21, I graduated from aesthetic school.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: I loved the anatomy and the physiology and the touch concept for me.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this was the choice for me to make people feel good.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: And it was just you know what's crazy?
- 4:11SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry, I don't want to interrupt you, but that's it's crazy that you said that because I find that all medical professionals, we kind of have that in common.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: When you get to go into like, I remember like, you know, when this might be for people who are a little queasy when it comes to medicine, but when we get to touch and like see a patient, or like even like for you know, um, Gross Anatomy Lab, when you first get to experience dealing with a human being and knowing you can change them um for the better and fix a problem they have, it's like that's when we fall in love.
- 4:42SPEAKER_02: So I love that you mentioned that.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: That's that that was what really brought you into it.
- 4:47SPEAKER_02: That you know, that touch aspect.
- 4:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: I am just one of those people in a very nurturing way.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: When I touch someone, it has a healing aspect.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: I'm very conscious about the way I make other people feel.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: And as an aesthetician, that immediately was how I connected to my clients and built my clientele.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: No, I can definitely imagine that because, you know, it's it's really interesting to me, you know, the whole field of, you know, aesthetics, and then obviously the work that aestheticians do, because I think that, you know, um, and this is a little off topic, but I think it's very relevant when it comes to the energy that's being um involved in the work that you do, you know, and you had mentioned that, but I really believe in that, you know.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: I was like one of those kids that got into like, you know, Reiki and like, you know, I got into those kind of not that that's you know related because you're doing something medical here, but like, you know, in terms of energy work, I was very curious about that, you know, and I um had experimented, you know, a little bit and gone to people who really do actual energy work, you know, they work um in terms of massage or whatever that is, you know, and they really it it makes a difference.
- 6:04SPEAKER_02: You have to be the right kind of soul, I feel like the right kind of person when you're touching someone's face, you're correcting a problem, you're observing, like you have to make them feel like you know what you're doing, you know, and that is an energy thing.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: And so I really love that you said that.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: And I think it's central to medicine, it really is.
- 6:23SPEAKER_02: You know, you have to make your people comfortable, you gotta make your patients comfortable, you gotta make them feel like you know what you're doing, and you can't fake that.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: You know, that's where the energy concept comes in.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Yes, and they develop that trust, and it's important that they feel once they close the door and lay in my treatment bed, that they feel they're 100% taken care of for sure.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: No, I want to talk about uh your skincare because I love that you have the background you have, and I love that you're so humble about it because for everyone listening, she's a freaking genius.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Like, I mean, her products are phenomenal.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: Seriously, like you are, you know, you have created some of the most wonderful products that we were talking, you know, for everyone that's tuning in, we were talking um before the episode started, and I was telling Joey that, you know, my mother is obsessed with the products, and we all know how my mother is never obsessed with anything, you know.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: That's like her general desk disposition.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: But um, you know, I love her to death, but because when she is obsessed, it's something that she really likes, and she really gravitated towards, for example, um, Joey, your glycolic peel pads, your brightening peel, you know, your you know, brightening pads.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: Uh, she loved your retinol.
- 7:44SPEAKER_02: Like I've never seen her have an actual skincare regimen, you know.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: And then when she tried your products, it was like her little routine, you know, she did it a few times a week and it was wonderful.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: So I want to talk about the real clinical side of the products that you make.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: How does that work for you?
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Do you have a lab?
- 8:02SPEAKER_02: Do you instruct your own chemists?
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: You know, how is the whole process for you?
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: First, it makes me so happy to hear that your mom is enjoying the products and taking the time for her skin because it's definitely an important thing to have her own routine and to minimize, you know, the uh effects of aging.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: And so if she's enjoying it, she'll continue it.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: So that's why I made these products.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: And many years ago, I found this FDA-registered facility with pharmaceutical manufacturing, and it was a turnkey program dedicated to working with physicians and skincare experts, and everything was innovative and safe.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: And recently I went to the lab, and it's just incredible to see how they can create the best product and take products that are number one on the market, and then the claims that they have, and then basically create something for me that I can say, okay, this is going to be effective for my clients.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: This is backed by science, and that makes me feel so good.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: You know, simple things such as glycolic pads.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: I've had these for many years.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: And I know someone with oily acne-prone skin, if I use this after I cleanse my skin, I'm also giving myself a little bit of vitamin A, E, and C, and my skin is gonna look healthier and brighter and remove those oils just to maintain moving forward that I'm not gonna have a breakout or that my skin is gonna have a healthy glow.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: And these products are so simple.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: A retinol, everyone should have a retinol in their routine for nighttime, just to help.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: I know, I know like retinol hasn't had the FDA claim for acne, but it is effective for anti-aging and acne.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: So simple product, one thing that you're gonna use at night is gonna help minimize the overall appearance of everything, whether it's acne, pigment, irregularities, and aging, and it's also gonna stimulate collagen and elastin.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: So you said your mom felt tighter and brighter.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: So that makes me so happy.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: And this is why I created this.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: And I do have several lines that I have worked with over the years that we've carried for many years, and I wanted something special.
- 10:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, I get you.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: I get you.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: And you know, it really comes across that you know what you're doing.
- 10:40SPEAKER_02: I mean, let's be honest.
- 10:41SPEAKER_02: You know, I think that there's a lot of, you know, as you know, Joey, is it's it's everywhere, right?
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: In the beauty industry, this marketing idea, you know, buzzwords and people all everybody wants to say, my skincare line is a clinical grade skincare line.
- 10:56SPEAKER_02: Well, I have some news for all of you.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: No, it's not, you know, frankly put, it's not.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: You know why?
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: Because I am a firm believer in the word clinical.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: When you say something that's clinical, it means that it's actually producing results that are visible, that can be seen, that can be observed by a third party and thus peer-reviewed.
- 11:17SPEAKER_02: And that's where clinical matters.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: And so, you know, uh again, with what I was, you know, discussing with Joey, especially about my mom, the results my mother has seen, for example, has have been, you know, if you scientifically classify them, it's increase of volume.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: It's you know what I mean?
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: It's uh repletion of volume.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: She sees that in her face.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: It's not sagging as much.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: She's seeing a lift, she's seeing this.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: So it's like I can produce before and after pictures, and that's where it matters.
- 11:49SPEAKER_02: And so, you know, I think that that's something that really sets you apart for me, Joey, is that you're one of the very few aestheticians I feel I've spoken to and have actually used your products, tried your products, given it time, because this episode has been long time in the making, you know, for plenty of time.
- 12:07SPEAKER_02: Um, and you have better than dermatologist level products.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: That's it's astonishing.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: Like it's like you have, you know, really truly a clean clinical skincare line and it's done right.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: And by the way, I love what you said about the oily skin because glycolic acid, as a lot of people know, but a lot of people may not know, is the most frequently used AHAs, and AHAs are known to help people with oily skin.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: So the fact that she's, you know, Joey, you're going straight to glycolic acid, you're going straight to the stuff that matters.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: Like that's an experienced diet that's an experienced human being.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: And so I would much rather trust you with my skin than just, you know, whatever product comes out next.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: Oh, we've got these ingredients.
- 12:50SPEAKER_02: Ingredients don't matter if you can't apply them.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: Like they don't they don't matter.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: And I honestly have so many incredible relationships with experts through the years, dermatologists, plastic surgeons.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: And I am fortunate enough that I can sit next to them at some of these meetings where I am a speaker and I'm sharing about how I use things in my practice and for my clients.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: And I can speak with some of the best dermatologists in the industry and ask them, what have you seen with your clients or your patients?
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: And you know, what are the best ingredients or what is the best for anti-aging, brightening, acne, plumping the skin?
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: And so I've always taken that into consideration when I've done your homework.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: You've done your homework.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: And many years ago when I started, I was working in more of a holistic spa setting, the more of the organic, natural ingredients.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: And slowly, as I was, I mean, not necessarily aging, but you know, as I became my late 20s and I was taking more time for my skin, thinking of how I can maintain firmness without always running to injectables.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Maybe some of my friends in their early 30s were doing that, and I was really focusing on the idea of skincare.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: I always spoke to whoever was around me, like to find mentors in the industry who have been creating product lines for 20 years that were working and backed by science.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I'm really fortunate to have these people that I have met over the years, and it has helped me for sure.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: And I love that you're able to openly say that.
- 14:49SPEAKER_02: I know a lot of people, you know, the humility aspect is definitely lacking in a lot of uh, you know, experts.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: I think it comes with the realm of us being medical professionals.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: We all we know what's best, and you know, I've had some verms on where I'd had to, I've had to really humble them, you know, and say that just because you have a dermatology background doesn't mean you know everything.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: It doesn't.
- 15:10SPEAKER_02: And I mean all none of us do.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: That's like me saying, you know, as a doctor, I know everything.
- 15:15SPEAKER_02: You know, my specialty is my specialty, but I don't know everything about it, and I definitely don't.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: And so that's where it's like I have so much respect for anyone who has the next cutting edge knowledge.
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: I don't, I just don't.
- 15:30SPEAKER_02: There's uh and the reason I'm even saying all of this is because there's a delineation in the industry, you know what I mean?
- 15:36SPEAKER_02: There's people are people delineate.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: They say either you go to anesthetician or you go to a dermatologist.
- 15:42SPEAKER_02: Well, why?
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: You know, it the knowledge is there, knowledge is knowledge, you know.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: So I really recommend your clinic, you know, in terms of if you're somebody listening in, you need help, you just want a consultation, you want something, you know, any whatever, whatever it is you need, you need to go to the person who can diagnose you, you know.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Stop looking at letters or whatever, you know, behind someone's name.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, I know a lot of really crappy um people in my own specialty.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: I'm not lying.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: I they know who they are because I've told them to their face.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: So it's like it's like I really don't, I don't believe in the fact that you know, credentials are everything.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: I feel that knowledge is more.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: And so I really encourage everyone listening, and this is more, you know, for you guys than anybody, is that you know, go to the people that have experience.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: Like Joey said, she's worked and she's learned and she's also contributed with the best of the best.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: It's that interaction that creates, I think, you know what I mean?
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: Like knowledge, like real knowledge.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I love that about you.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: I love that you're you know open-minded, you're you're somebody who just you know takes it one day at a time when it comes to the knowledge aspect, and that's very important.
- 16:55SPEAKER_02: So with that said, I want to, yeah, no, no, no, it's it's my pleasure, but I want to move on, and I want to actually ask you if I was a complete novice at skincare, right?
- 17:08SPEAKER_02: And if I just absolutely like I knew you wash your face, you put on a moisturizer, do all that kind of stuff, you know.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: And this is for a lot of the men out there because this is really how men think I feel like about so if I was to, you know, I wanted to incorporate a few more things in my routine, you know, I'm getting into my 30s, I'm starting to see those lines.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: What would you recommend out of your products, like a great starter kit for anybody?
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: You know, keep it simple so it's not overwhelming.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: I think first and foremost, you want it to feel easy.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Definitely have the retinol for nighttime and the vitamin C serum for daytime and a simple cleanser, especially for men.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: I don't think that they need anything very fancy or expensive.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: I personally have the line MBR, and there's an enzyme cleanser that I love, and I mix that into everything.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, you can play with cleansers to see how your skin responds.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: And I think, yeah, I think cleansers are great, like depending on your skin type and what your skin needs in the change of season, but a vitamin C for daytime and a retinol for nighttime and SPF.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: If you're, you know, someone who is exposed to the sun frequently or enjoys outdoor activities, definitely find an SPF that works for you, that is, you know, not oily and greasy on the skin that you're going to enjoy applying.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Because I've had a lot of people say this sunblock feels you know pasty on my skin, or this sunblock, if I'm jogging, it goes into my eyes.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: So I always try to find a solution, like what's going to be simple, that you're going to stick to it and you're not going to feel overwhelmed, or that it's uncomfortable if you're using it on a daily basis.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 19:06SPEAKER_02: I love that you said that.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: That's so true because you know, that's I think the biggest reason people don't wear sunblock.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: Like that's really what it is.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: And it's like, actually, I want to know, do you have a favorite?
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Like, do you have your own personal favorite sunblock that you recommend?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: I yes, we we have a few amazing product lines that we do sell at JTAF Clinical Skincare.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: And my favorite and go-to has always been ELTA.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: It's one of my favorites.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: There's several different to choose from, and it's very easy to apply it.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: It doesn't burn in your eyes.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: And it's just something that I know females, males will use and they'll be thrilled using it.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: And it's not gonna be uh a complicated thing where they're like, I don't want to use this, it bothers me.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: You know, it's your skin's gonna feel good using it.
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Yes, no, I love Elta.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: I literally wrote them like a love letter the other day.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Like I literally was just like, because I had Echo Sandberg, she came onto my show to represent Elta.
- 20:06SPEAKER_02: I wrote, you know what I mean?
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: So I wrote them a letter of just love.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: I said, you know what?
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Thank you for everything you give to me every day.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Like it was just it was one of those, like, I just appreciate them, you know.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: They made me real.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, when you find something that feels good on your skin, you're gonna use it all the time, right?
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: And it's like you can't even feel their sunscreen, like you don't feel like for everyone listening.
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: If you need a sunscreen, go right now to LT MD because honestly, they're the best.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: I agree with you completely, Joey.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: That's my go-to as well.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: Also, by the way, I wanted to point out there's also one one more, and that is Dr.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: Nichols.
- 20:47SPEAKER_02: She's a dermatologist, she's a Harvard-trained dermatologist.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: I don't even I didn't even know she had this product, by the way.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: Oh, I have to try it.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: And I didn't, yes, we settled at ELTA on our website.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: So tell all of your listeners that we do ship out ELTA as well.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: If they want to come to JTAP clinical skincare, everything is there for their needs if they need anything.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: We also have standards.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Let me hear about this other product.
- 21:11SPEAKER_01: I never tried it.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 21:12SPEAKER_02: I just wanted to mention it because it's just it's wonderful.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: I actually just posted about it today, and it's uh Dr.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: Nichols MD, Kim Nichols.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: She's a Harvard-trained dermatologist.
- 21:21SPEAKER_02: I had her on my podcast.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: I didn't even know she sold this.
- 21:24SPEAKER_02: This is how bad it is.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Like, I I she hides her stuff.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Like, she's not, you know what I mean?
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: Like, she's so into her practice that she doesn't really um promote like her products as much as she she should.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: But her sunscreen is so good for women of color.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: You know, I literally am I'm obsessed.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: I'm upset.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: I just want you to try it.
- 21:43SPEAKER_02: Just try it.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: Like you're gonna love it.
- 21:45SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, Elta, 100%.
- 21:49SPEAKER_02: If you if you have any doubts at all, go straight to Elta for real and buy it from Joey's website.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: So I definitely, you know, I I love that you love Elta.
- 21:59SPEAKER_02: I love your product.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: Joey, you really like you know, I think you really get skin.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: That's really the best way for me to put it.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Is like, you know, there's either people who understand it or they don't, you know.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Um, for example, I was talking to Jan Marini and we were discussing this, you know, we we dove in, right?
- 22:15SPEAKER_02: We talked about like uh chemicals and the molecular pathways to collagen product, all this stuff.
- 22:20SPEAKER_02: And I was thinking, and I was like, you know, the people who do it right, if you really notice something, you guys, like they're not recommending like 18 steps.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: They tell you this is what you exfoliate with.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: You all say the same thing.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: You said glycolic cleansing, right?
- 22:36SPEAKER_02: You use glycolic acid, right?
- 22:39SPEAKER_02: Yes, that is something that I feel like only like people who know what they're doing recommend, like off the bat.
- 22:46SPEAKER_02: Because I've had people tell me things like, use a random BHA, use you know, whatever.
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: It's and it's like, I don't like why, you know what I mean?
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: There's no explanation.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: So um I want to get your advice because there's a lot of budding um aestheticians out there, and that's really why I brought this up is that like, you know, you know your stuff, and I want people who are going into this profession to also know their stuff and to start somewhere, you know, because unfortunately, guys, everything is not in the textbooks, you have to learn, you know, and so Joey, I would love for you to give um words of wisdom and jewels to some of the listeners out there that might be wanting to go this route.
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: I have an incredible team, and I have shared with them in order to educate your client, you really have to attend seminars, you have to take courses.
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: Like you cannot just get your aesthetics license and dive into skincare and treatment.
- 23:42SPEAKER_01: You have to put the effort in.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Years ago, they used to have these incredible courses that I would attend.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: It was Society of Plastic Surgeon skincare specialists, and it was a weekend with PAs, nurses, aestheticians, constant classes that I could jump into and sign up for.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: And I feel like this is important for anyone who wants to become more knowledgeable, even sharing things on social media or YouTube.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: You always have to do your homework.
- 24:16SPEAKER_01: Even for me to take time speaking with you, it's you know, you have to put the effort into everything, especially when it comes to your career and what you're speaking about on a daily basis.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: So study, study, study, study is my best advice.
- 24:36SPEAKER_01: If there's a product line that you're selling, 99% of the time they will offer online education or some type of education to give you those skills and those keywords.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: And then from there, study the ingredients, study the efficacy, study what the end result will, or like you said, your mom, you could give us before and afters.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: I love to see before and afters.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: And yeah, I think that a lot of the product lines that you as an aesthetician have, you know, clients are basically looking on social media or they're learning from online, you know, their friend is using it.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: You really need to learn about the ingredients and the products and have the education in order to share with your clients and anyone else for that fact.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: What is that saying, Joey?
- 25:35SPEAKER_02: It's like learn one, teach one, something like that.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: It's like, it's you know, I don't know.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: I'm totally watching it, but teach back, teach back, you know.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: Like if you can teach something back, you know your shit.
- 25:47SPEAKER_01: So, like, well, I always yeah, I mean, I don't mean to cut you off, but I always wanted to be the best version of myself and my business and growing my business.
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: And I wanted my team to see that passion, and that's how the business grew.
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: Like it was just me answering the telephone, talking about skincare product in the beginning in 2009.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: And, you know, from there it grew.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: And every time I had a new esthetician, I wouldn't just throw them in the room.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: We would train for hours.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: They would come in the room with me, they would see how I would speak to the clients, educate the clients, at the end, create a regimen for them.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: And that I think was so powerful because it gave them the strength and the power to take on that role and see, you know, learn from me.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: And I think that with any new aesthetician or any new business owner, you have to put the energy into it.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: I love that so much.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: And, you know, um, I really, I really, really appreciate you offering that advice.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, the the amount of knowledge or the amount of information you need to know before you go into a career these days is I think very different from when we went into our careers.
- 27:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think that people really gotta know what it is you're getting into.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: And I really, you know, I definitely support everything that Joey said.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: I mean, I she knows better than I do, you know, about her her specialty, but I I definitely encourage all of you to take notes, to really um pay heed to these words because I know that it's hard right now for young professionals.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: You know, we're going through a recession, we're going through so many things.
- 27:33SPEAKER_02: And I think it's like, you know, to put your best foot forward and to make a company or a spa or a clinic want to hire you, you have to show them a reason to hire you.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: And I think, you know, even if you're not at the stage of having your own place yet, you know, learn, go and learn from you know, professionals like Joey, like the advice she's giving you, like learn from that because that is going to make you competitive.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: And it's very important to be competitive.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: So I thank you so much, Joey.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: You're awesome.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: Your products are phenomenal.
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: And I just I just commend you.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, truly.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: Hats off.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: I really appreciate it.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm glad your mom is enjoying everything.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: It makes me even more excited to share with the world uh a skincare regimen.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: And the truth is, I feel like I heard this on your podcast.
- 28:25SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you said this or one of your guests that your skin will change as you age, but many of the visible signs of aging can be minimized by proper skincare.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: And I never forgot that.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: I I heard that over the summer I was listening to your podcast and I was like, this is it.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: This is the truth.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: No, it's it was probably one of my brilliant, brilliant guests.
- 28:46SPEAKER_02: You guys always have, you know, amazing advice for our listeners.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it was probably some, but yeah, it's true.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: You know, I've noticed, I kid you not, it's so it, you know, I we're gonna we're gonna keep talking for a little bit longer because I gotta tell you this.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: You know, I literally the other day posted, I'm trying to get into the TikTok scene for everyone listening.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: By the way, guys, I'm trying, I'm trying, okay?
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Please support me.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: Um, so I went on TikTok, I took a little recording of my face, okay?
- 29:12SPEAKER_02: And I had just done my skincare for the night.
- 29:14SPEAKER_02: You know how it's like super glowy and you know, you put your night cream on, whatever.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: So I went on there, recorded my face, and I put straight up, I've never joined, I've never had Botox, I've never gotten microderm abrasion, I've never gotten, I have never done anything to my face outside of my own home.
- 29:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, ever.
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: And I showed them, I said, this is what my skin looks like, and it's just skincare.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: I'm not somebody who's born with great genes or anything like that, or you know what I mean.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: I had terrible acne as a teenager.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: That's what got me into skincare.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: And I told them I I did that.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: I'm doing this for a reason.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: Like I want people to see the power of skincare.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Like, you guys need to really see it.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: If you really stick to a routine, you stick to the right people making the products, aka JTAV, okay.
- 30:01SPEAKER_02: You buy the right stuff and you stick to it.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: You guys, you will not have to do Botox, fillers, injectable, niacinamide, you know, you don't need to always be on that schedule.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: The less the teachers in medicine, the less invasive, the better.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: And that's really what I'm trying to prove.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: So I posted that up there.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: I got a great response, you know, and it was just my way of saying yeah, I want you to check it out.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: I'll send you the link to it.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: I I really, really did that just to show, you know, and it was it was like no filter, nothing, like no filter.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: And I want people to understand that that the people I'm inviting onto this podcast are the best of the best, and they've created magical potions.
- 30:42SPEAKER_02: Like there's a there's like a meme going around on TikTok, by the way.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: So I'm referencing it.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: It says skincare is magical potions, and they are because they grow with science, you know, it's real science.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: So I encourage everybody, you guys, check out these brands, check out JTav.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna tag everything in the uh episode for this.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: Um, the art for this episode, sorry.
