- 0:07Welcome back everybody to another
- 0:09edition here of the Auburn Undercover
- 0:10[music] podcast on the 247 sports
- 0:13network. My name is Nathan King. [music]
- 0:15Joined here today by Isaac Troder, CBS
- 0:17Sports, college basketball expert.
- 0:20Hopefully you guys remember him from a
- 0:21few podcasts in the past. He's been on
- 0:23the show many times to talk about Auburn
- 0:25Hoops and talk about the SEC. and we
- 0:27thought we'd have him on today to talk
- 0:29about what's been an interesting off
- 0:30season for uh for the league. Obviously,
- 0:33it's been a couple years now of the SEC
- 0:35being a really really good uh conference
- 0:37in basketball. Nothing's going to be
- 0:38able to touch where they were a couple
- 0:40years ago, but uh Isaac, I think
- 0:42particularly in the transfer portal, I'm
- 0:44interested to hear uh what you thought
- 0:46of how the league has improved itself.
- 0:48There's been a bunch of transfer classes
- 0:49up there at the very top, but uh first
- 0:52of all, just wanted to check in, see how
- 0:54you're doing. It's good to have you back
- 0:55on the show. I know we were talking
- 0:56before we got before we got going about
- 0:58the NBA draft coming up and being a big
- 1:00focus for you guys. I haven't thought
- 1:02about it that much because Auburn has
- 1:05been used to having guys. They may have
- 1:07a late guy, late round guy in Keshan
- 1:09Hall this year. I'm interested to see
- 1:10what NBA thing NBA teams think of him
- 1:13though because he's sort of like glass
- 1:15cannon offense. So interested to see
- 1:16where he goes. Yeah, I don't I don't
- 1:18know if we'll hear his name called in
- 1:20the second round, but it's such a
- 1:21watered down uh NBA draft so you just
- 1:23never really know. But yeah, I'm doing
- 1:25well. I I feel like this time of year is
- 1:28interesting because free agency just
- 1:30basically just ended and now we can get
- 1:32a really good glimpse of what these
- 1:33rosters look like. And yeah, I think you
- 1:36you hinted at something where you're
- 1:37like, I don't know if the SEC will touch
- 1:39what it was a couple years ago. I agree
- 1:41with that in theory, but if there's any
- 1:43league that could this year, I think
- 1:45it's the SEC again because some of the
- 1:47moves that teams have made in the
- 1:49offseason are just high level. I think
- 1:51there's been a separation I think where
- 1:53the SEC's money has come into play and
- 1:56um built some really really dynamic
- 1:58rosters to towards the top of the
- 2:00league. And I'll be honest, you know, I
- 2:02would put Auburn into that mix of
- 2:04offseason winners. You know, I think
- 2:06there's been a lot of concerns about the
- 2:08direction of the program after how last
- 2:10year went, but this spring was a really,
- 2:12really strong spring for Steven Pearl.
- 2:15and I'm heading into 2026 27 under the
- 2:18impression that Auburn is a no doubt NCA
- 2:20tournament team with top 25 upside.
- 2:23>> Yeah, I think that's obviously, you
- 2:24know, that's where they want to get back
- 2:26to. Um, last year was a bit of a blip on
- 2:29the radar in terms of where they've been
- 2:31as a program, but at the same time it
- 2:33was um big turnover, you know, the
- 2:35biggest possible turnover with Bruce
- 2:37Pearl retiring just four months before
- 2:39the season started. And um one thing
- 2:41that's been interesting, Isaac, you
- 2:43know, we've had a few conversations with
- 2:44Steven since the season ended. And it's
- 2:46it's very clear that he,
- 2:49you know, last year's team wasn't his,
- 2:51if that makes any sense. And I'm putting
- 2:53words in his mouth he wouldn't say that
- 2:55sort of thing, but he wanted to go out
- 2:57and grab guys for this roster that he
- 2:59quote unquote thought fit what he wanted
- 3:01to do. Um he's a different coach than
- 3:03Bruce Pearl. He's got different, you
- 3:04know, emphasises on the on both sides of
- 3:07the ball. He's a defensive-minded coach.
- 3:09Bruce Pearl was was sort of, you know,
- 3:11cut his teeth as an offensive coach. And
- 3:13so I'll be interested to see on that end
- 3:15of the floor how they're able to improve
- 3:17because um you know, if you're not
- 3:18playing defense under SP at Auburn, it's
- 3:21it's not going to be very pretty for you
- 3:22on a on a daily basis. But let's just
- 3:24let's just talk about the Tigers. You
- 3:25know, let's talk about their their
- 3:27offseason. I'm interested to hear from
- 3:28you outside looking in. you know, like
- 3:30we've broken down these guys
- 3:32individually as they've committed,
- 3:33talking about overseas guys, transfer
- 3:35guys, but when you holistically look at
- 3:37the five transfers and two overseas guys
- 3:40that Auburn added, along with the fact
- 3:42that they retain Pedford and Overton, I
- 3:44guess we can sort of start there. Um,
- 3:46what is your overall impression of, like
- 3:48you said, Auburn being a a team that
- 3:51could be considered kind of a winner in
- 3:52the SEC in terms of what they did on the
- 3:54roster? Yeah, I think their interior
- 3:56defense is shaped up to be much much
- 3:58better next year. And that's a huge
- 4:00selling point, I think, moving forward
- 4:03because especially in this league in the
- 4:04SEC, if you can't defend the paint, you
- 4:06can't rebound, and you can't defend the
- 4:07rim, kind of dead-on arrival. And I I
- 4:10think Auburn obviously last year
- 4:13defensively was not where they needed to
- 4:15be. Part of that was when I watched
- 4:17Auburn games, I felt like they got a
- 4:19little bit unlucky where teams just made
- 4:20some miracle threes against them over
- 4:22and over and over again. And that was a
- 4:24a regular trend, but also part of it was
- 4:27they they did not guard the ball well
- 4:28enough and they did not have enough
- 4:30interior bite. This roster I think
- 4:32should have that right and for me it
- 4:35starts with Narcissis Enoy. I hope I'm
- 4:36saying that right. Enjoy. We're we're
- 4:38going to learn as we go with all of
- 4:39these internationals that come over to
- 4:41college basketball. It's a bit of a
- 4:42process. Um but 6'1, 7 feet tall with a
- 4:467 foot seven wingspan. He's just
- 4:49absolutely enormous. I I look at him as
- 4:51a potential starter, but the beauty of
- 4:54this Auburn rebuild or retool,
- 4:57they don't have to really leverage a ton
- 4:59on Enboyy being awesome because they've
- 5:01added Bucky Aoyet out of Santa Clara,
- 5:03who if you're making a a list of the top
- 5:05mid- major bigs. Abboy had one of the
- 5:08highest ceilings of all of them. And
- 5:10Auburn's obviously recruited mid- major
- 5:13bigs at a very high level throughout the
- 5:15Bruce Pearl tenure. And obviously we're
- 5:16not putting a boy on the same tier as
- 5:18like a Janai Broom, but I think that
- 5:21combination of a Buoyet and Engoy can
- 5:24really buff up this interior defense.
- 5:27And I think that having an elite shot
- 5:29blocker makes the rest of your life so
- 5:32much easier. And I think for a I think
- 5:34the first selling point with Auburn is
- 5:35like for 40 straight minutes, they're
- 5:37going to have a shot blocker who's one
- 5:38of the better ones in the league. And
- 5:40that's a really really great jumping off
- 5:42point for this group.
- 5:44>> Yeah. just size, I mean, on in the front
- 5:47court was the biggest thing. You I
- 5:48talked to Bruce Pearl a few weeks ago
- 5:50for a story and he mentioned, you know,
- 5:52when he was still the coach and and
- 5:54Philip Yoic came to campus, um he was
- 5:57like a 69 undersized five, but that's
- 6:00not super undersized for the league he
- 6:02was playing in, but there's just no way
- 6:05to know with these these these overseas
- 6:07guys. He gets to campus and he's I think
- 6:09Bruce Pearl called him 6'7 with a long
- 6:11neck. like they're basically their their
- 6:15you know paint bruiser last year was a
- 6:18six foot six center and then Keshan
- 6:21Murphy I think he deserves a lot of
- 6:22credit for what he did last year but at
- 6:25the end of the day he was just a 694 man
- 6:27and he was their center all season. So
- 6:29like you said like it's the the size
- 6:31difference to me is the biggest thing
- 6:33that that you notice with this roster
- 6:35rebuild even a guy like Owen Freeman and
- 6:37I wonder if you have any insight on him.
- 6:38He's from like Big 10 country. I know
- 6:41you you you sort of have a better um
- 6:44pers, you know, perspective of that than
- 6:46than maybe we do down here in the SEC,
- 6:48but I'm interested to see what kind of
- 6:49player he is. Um I think he can be a a
- 6:52guy who plays It's funny like he'll be
- 6:54their small ball center, but he's 6'11.
- 6:57Like he's got a lot of size and I don't
- 6:59know, I'm interested in him because he
- 7:00he was a really good player at Iowa as a
- 7:01freshman. Um and then it seemed like
- 7:03just injuries derailed any hope of him
- 7:06being a good player last year at Kraton.
- 7:08>> Yeah, a big bo bet. This is uh a bo on a
- 7:11player that was a basically like a 15-8,
- 7:1514-8, 16-8 type of guy at Iowa as a
- 7:18sophomore. Now, there are some context
- 7:21that's necessary, right? Like at Iowa,
- 7:23they don't play a lick of defense there.
- 7:25So, you can get up and down a little bit
- 7:26offensively and so your counting stats
- 7:28will look great. But seriously, if you
- 7:30kind of go through the rosters, like
- 7:32Auburn's one of I can't find another
- 7:34roster that could have a guy like Owen
- 7:36Freeman who averaged 16 and eight in the
- 7:37high major league as a big man who's
- 7:39coming off the bench, right? Like that's
- 7:40a potential where he could come off the
- 7:41bench. You There's not many guys like
- 7:43that. Um, offensively, very, very
- 7:46polished and skilled. He has great
- 7:47footwork. He can finish. He has good
- 7:49touch. I think the thing I like about
- 7:51him too that Auburn may tap into a
- 7:53little bit. We'll see how Mike Berggo
- 7:54Master kind of initiates offense, but he
- 7:56can dribble a little bit more and kind
- 7:58of drive at the basketball. So, you get
- 8:01him matched up against, you know, a
- 8:02center who's a little bit rickety in
- 8:04space. I think Freeman could be someone
- 8:06who gives them something like that. Uh,
- 8:08but yeah, the last year at Kraton did
- 8:10not go well. I mean, this is a guy that,
- 8:12you know, I'm a part of the transfer
- 8:13portal scouting team. We had him as a
- 8:14top 45 transfer. he was paid like a top
- 8:1745 transfer like one of the higher paid
- 8:19players on that Kraton roster and it
- 8:22just didn't work out. Uh part of that
- 8:23was injuries but also part of it was he
- 8:25just couldn't quite get into a groove
- 8:27and didn't play all that well. Um
- 8:30defensively it's a problem. He is not a
- 8:32good defensive player at this point and
- 8:34I think for him to be the best version
- 8:35of himself he has to become a better
- 8:37defensive player. He fouls a lot. Now
- 8:39the now again going back to the the
- 8:41beauty of this front court, they don't
- 8:44need him to be a 33 minute a game guy.
- 8:46So if you're mixing him in for 20 to 22
- 8:49to 24 minutes and see kind of how he
- 8:51goes. Maybe a hot hand theory of like if
- 8:53he's got it really rolling that night,
- 8:55you can ramp his usage up. That
- 8:56certainly will help. And we know that
- 8:59this offense, they will put their most
- 9:00talented offensive players in good
- 9:02positions to succeed. And I think
- 9:04Freeman could be one of their better
- 9:05offensive players, even if his counting
- 9:07stats are going to come down a little
- 9:08bit from those Iowa days.
- 9:11To me, when you look at maybe the three
- 9:14bins of this roster, the bigs, the
- 9:16guards, and the forward/wings,
- 9:18um, I think there's no doubt that they
- 9:20have, let's say, better personnel in the
- 9:23bigs. Like, it's all got to work out.
- 9:24Like said, Freeman's got some stuff to
- 9:26work out. Bukiao fouled at an
- 9:28unbelievable rate last year.
- 9:30>> Yeah. So, I mean, there's stuff and Enoy
- 9:32is a is an overseas player. Like,
- 9:34there's stuff that has to work out. The
- 9:36guards, maybe you'd you'd give that an
- 9:38improvement as well because you're
- 9:39bringing back two really good players.
- 9:41To me, maybe the swing position is is
- 9:44the forwards because if you're looking
- 9:46at like onetoone roster replacements,
- 9:48you're taking a guy like a Sebastian
- 9:50Williams Adams who was high ceiling,
- 9:53like really liked what he could become
- 9:54in the future. I think he's going to be
- 9:56really good at Vanderbilt. Um, and
- 9:58you're replacing him with a guy like
- 10:00Adam Olsson from South Alabama. Elijah
- 10:02Freeman, also a guy that could be really
- 10:04good in the SEC next year. I mean, there
- 10:06were some serious flashes for him as
- 10:09like maybe a future NBA guy. You're
- 10:11replacing him with a guy like a Thomas
- 10:13Dow from from Troy and a and and Mantis
- 10:16Rubishious from Lithuania to a to an
- 10:19extent. So to me that's going to be
- 10:22interesting to see whether they're quote
- 10:23unquote better a at those like you know
- 10:26wing three slash4 positions but uh Olsen
- 10:30and Dow are are are guys I think that
- 10:33have a lot of upside and you really like
- 10:35what they did last season particularly
- 10:37Olsen being a guy that um the the Iowa
- 10:39State name escapes me in the transfer
- 10:42portal but um few guys at that size shot
- 10:45the three ball better like they were the
- 10:46two best in the uh in the portal and
- 10:48then Thomas Dow was a guy that kind of
- 10:50just did it all for Troy. Like was was
- 10:52kind of like a small ball big man for
- 10:54them. And it's funny to hear Steven
- 10:56Pearl say, "Yeah, he's kind of a wing
- 10:57forward." And it's like he was playing
- 10:59down low averaging 12 rebounds a game.
- 11:01And so um I don't know. I'm just
- 11:02interested to hear your perspective on
- 11:04those two guys because um you guys from
- 11:06instate, guys from from mid- major
- 11:08programs who I think have a lot of
- 11:09upside. I I think my concern with Auburn
- 11:13might be, man, they just might not be
- 11:15quite athletic enough because a guy like
- 11:18Freeman leaves and Sebastian Williams
- 11:19Adams also leaves. I'm with you. I
- 11:21thought both I thought Sebastian
- 11:22Williams Adams especially like total
- 11:25wrecking ball that this group that
- 11:27they've brought in is a little bit more
- 11:30skilled than athletic. And so I think
- 11:33they may profile as better role player
- 11:35bets long term. That's I think the the
- 11:37hope with this group, right? Olsen,
- 11:40you're right. Comparing him to Iowa
- 11:41State transfer Milan Mumsilovich, who
- 11:43ended up at Kentucky, when you're six
- 11:45foot nine and can shoot the way that
- 11:46Olsen can, that gives you a really
- 11:48stable floor. And I think that there's
- 11:50going to be room for him to get time in
- 11:52this rotation, assuming he can guard. I
- 11:54still have some questions about some of
- 11:56the defensive impact there. I don't have
- 11:58a lot of questions about the defensive
- 11:59impact with Thomas Dow. Thomas Dow is a
- 12:01terrific defensive player and the motor
- 12:04with him is off the charts good and he's
- 12:06a terrific cutter. That's an underrated
- 12:09I think part too about his game that
- 12:11will mesh into this offense really well
- 12:13because I think you know Auburn's last
- 12:14year offense was was outstanding no
- 12:17questions asked. But there were times I
- 12:19think that the ball movement left a
- 12:20little bit to be desired, right? Like
- 12:21when you have Keshan Hall on your team,
- 12:23you have to play Keshan Hall basketball.
- 12:25And so I think that this group could be
- 12:27able to move it a little bit better. And
- 12:30Dow's cutting connectivity
- 12:33as like a passer um as a spacer at times
- 12:36who can drive some long closeouts. Like
- 12:39some of that stuff will help this group
- 12:41offensively find different ways to to be
- 12:44impactful. And I think these two guys
- 12:46will make Tahad Pedifford better. And I
- 12:48think that's part of the calculus here
- 12:50with this group is like I don't think
- 12:52they're as talented as Elijah Freeman or
- 12:53Sebastian Williams Adams, right? Like if
- 12:55we're ranking power portal guys of those
- 12:58four, it's Williams Adams is one, Elijah
- 13:01Freeman would be two, Thomas Dad would
- 13:02be three for me with Olsen four. But
- 13:05like the ability to get off the ball and
- 13:08get pedifered more run and give him more
- 13:10space to get into the mid-range, like I
- 13:12think they can be additive role players
- 13:14where yeah, maybe they're not quite as
- 13:16as talented as the guys that they're
- 13:18replacing, but the what the the impact
- 13:21that they have, the product that they
- 13:22have on the roster could be beneficial
- 13:24for Auburn long term, especially because
- 13:26I think Pedford is uh poised for a
- 13:28really really big junior year.
- 13:30>> Yeah. And that's a and that's a segue
- 13:32here into kind of the last bin that we
- 13:34want to talk about and that's the two
- 13:35guards they bring back. Um I will
- 13:39completely admit and I think I'm not I'm
- 13:41far from the only one that kind of
- 13:42looked at Todd Todd Pedford's situation
- 13:45last season and wondered is he going to
- 13:47be back next year. Kind of felt like he
- 13:49wasn't going to get you know turn pro
- 13:50because he didn't have the uh the flash
- 13:52that he did as a freshman. Although as
- 13:54I'm sure you know like I think people
- 13:57are sleeping on the fact that he was
- 13:58better in a lot of areas as a sophomore.
- 13:59for, you know, assists, turnovers. Like,
- 14:01sure, he wasn't, you know, ripping
- 14:03three-pointers as much as he did when he
- 14:05had Jai Broom on the floor, but he was
- 14:06doing a lot of things really well. I
- 14:08just kind of wondered if that would be
- 14:11it for him at Auburn, like if he would
- 14:12look elsewhere. If you get a lot of
- 14:14money, go play closer to home in Jersey.
- 14:16Uh, his dad played high school
- 14:17basketball with Dan Hurley. Did you know
- 14:18that? So,
- 14:20>> that's awesome. That's a great kind of
- 14:21wondered like, you know, that would make
- 14:24sense, right? Like those teams would be
- 14:25looking for a point guard.
- 14:27um he decided to come back and it really
- 14:29I think it said a lot about about him as
- 14:32a player and I think or or as a person
- 14:35kind of showing that loyalty to a guy
- 14:37like Steven Pearl like he really
- 14:38wouldn't have blamed him for going
- 14:39elsewhere and I talked to his dad for a
- 14:41story shortly afterwards and his dad was
- 14:43like look I think people don't realize
- 14:45how much he loves being at Auburn like
- 14:47he he genuinely loves living there and
- 14:49he loves the school. Um, he has an
- 14:52opportunity. I'm not going to put his
- 14:53name up there with guys like Bryce Brown
- 14:55and Jared Harper in terms of like Auburn
- 14:57guards because they went to the Final
- 14:58Four. Now, he went to the Final Four as
- 14:59well as a freshman. Um, but he's got an
- 15:02opportunity to make a name for himself
- 15:04at Auburn. Like three-year five-star
- 15:07prospects don't grow on trees anymore.
- 15:09Um, so we can talk about him a little
- 15:10bit, but then I'm also interested kind
- 15:12of a two-parted thing. You mentioned
- 15:14being on the on the transfer team at CBS
- 15:16and ranking these guys. Um, what did you
- 15:19think of Kevin Overton's season and
- 15:21where did you what did y'all think of
- 15:22him before he went into the year and
- 15:25then kind of the offensive explosion he
- 15:27had over the last two months of the
- 15:28season because I think surprised me and
- 15:30it it surprised pretty much everyone
- 15:31else as well.
- 15:32>> Yeah, I our grade on Overton was very
- 15:34much of like um hard playing role player
- 15:37who can make spot up threes. We didn't
- 15:39think he quite had enough on ball juice
- 15:42to be like a top three or four option
- 15:44but could make spot up threes. I thought
- 15:46he could guard, good cutter,
- 15:48competitive, like all of the checks off
- 15:50the role player boxes type of deal. And
- 15:52I I think we graded him as a SEC
- 15:54rotation player is kind of what his
- 15:56grade was. I can't remember exactly what
- 15:57it was. I think he was like a 92 in the
- 15:59portal rankings, but I'd have to go back
- 16:01and double check that. Uh I I was
- 16:04surprised, too. There were times when I
- 16:06watched Overton where he looked a little
- 16:07overmatched, and then by the end of the
- 16:09year, it's like he really felt like he
- 16:10got into a groove of like I can really
- 16:13play at this level. And I I've talked
- 16:15about the year 2 transfer jump ad
- 16:17nauseium. I I think Overton would be in
- 16:20line for that, right? Like you saw that
- 16:21secondyear jump for Janai. Very
- 16:23similarly with Overton in a smaller
- 16:25level, right? I think you could see his
- 16:27his production or his impact jump 20%.
- 16:30Or, you know, like that's a lot of the
- 16:32analytical models hint at about a 20%
- 16:34growth for transfers who stay for that
- 16:36second season at their new school. So, I
- 16:39I expect Overton to be one of the like I
- 16:42don't think he's an all SEC guard next
- 16:44year personally, but I think he can be
- 16:46one of the top two-way guards in the
- 16:48league, right? Like a he's going to be a
- 16:50no doubt SEC's type of starter. Um, but
- 16:52the Pedford stuff to get back to him,
- 16:56like keeping Tahad Pedifford is the
- 16:58equivalent of landing a top 15 transfer.
- 17:01Like that's the stuff that I think we
- 17:03have to get through in roster building
- 17:04and it doesn't show up. I wish we had
- 17:06retention rankings in the portal. I we
- 17:09don't have that. I really wish we did.
- 17:11But like keeping a player like
- 17:12Pedaphford status is just absolutely
- 17:16enormous. And you're right, there were a
- 17:17lot of transfer portal whispers and no
- 17:20one would have blamed him and he would
- 17:21had a huge market and he would have
- 17:22probably gone on and done some awesome
- 17:24things. But I think him staying is also
- 17:27a sign from Steven Pearl being like,
- 17:30"Look, things are going to be different
- 17:31this year." Because look, you watched
- 17:34more Auburn than I did, but when I
- 17:35watched Auburn, I got the sense that
- 17:37there were times where him and Keshan
- 17:38Hall just their like dynamic back and
- 17:41forth. It was like a little bit your
- 17:42turn, my turn. I think this year it's
- 17:44Tahad is our fulcrum. We are building
- 17:46our offense around Todd Pedford and we
- 17:48have brought in a bunch of role players
- 17:50that will make you better. We've added a
- 17:52lot threat for you. We've added good
- 17:53cutters for you. We've added a boatload
- 17:56of shooting, right? And Montas and
- 17:58Overton Dow can stretch it a little bit.
- 18:00Like we've add Olsson obviously can
- 18:02stretch it. We've added all of these
- 18:04complimentary pieces so that you have
- 18:07the ball in your hands and you can go
- 18:08out and be the best guard in this
- 18:09league. And if that's the expectation
- 18:11that they put together for him and he
- 18:13can live up to it, that's how Auburn,
- 18:15you know, exceeds expectations next
- 18:16year.
- 18:17>> Yeah, I would completely agree with you.
- 18:19I I've sort of said the same thing since
- 18:21they put this roster together. And it's
- 18:23like all all signs point to Tahad
- 18:25Pedifford. And that was something he his
- 18:28his dad kind of mentioned shortly after
- 18:30his decision to come back was like just
- 18:32just the language he was using was
- 18:34they're putting a lot of good pieces in
- 18:36place for Tahad and they're they're sort
- 18:39of centering the roster around him. Um
- 18:41and of course you're always going to say
- 18:42that about your kid, but like it it
- 18:44makes sense when you look at what he
- 18:46could be as a junior and I I thought I
- 18:48thought he was one of the more I just
- 18:51you know when you have the ball in your
- 18:52hands so much and I I felt the same
- 18:53about Keshan Hall to an extent. I think
- 18:55he looked dreadful defender at times,
- 18:57but like maybe too much blame when
- 19:00you're just kind of doing everything on
- 19:02a team that's not that great. Um,
- 19:05Pedford had some crazy moments down the
- 19:07stretch of the season. Like he got a lot
- 19:09better. His assist to turnover ratio was
- 19:10dreadful at the beginning of the year
- 19:12and then I think over the last month it
- 19:13was one of the best in the SEC. Um, like
- 19:16third among SEC point guards. He has
- 19:18almost single-handedly led them against
- 19:21Tennessee in the SEC tournament. a game
- 19:22that would have taken them into the NCAA
- 19:24tournament. Of course, they didn't end
- 19:26up doing that. Um, but he had some great
- 19:27moments and so they're kind of like you
- 19:29said, hoping that they can take that
- 19:30next step with a more competent roster.
- 19:32Um, you mentioned Montas and and we
- 19:35talked about Narcis and as well. Um,
- 19:38just the international wave of course
- 19:40that we've seen over the last few years.
- 19:43It's going to be interesting to see if
- 19:44that quote unquote clicks this year more
- 19:47than it did with a guy like Yovic. But
- 19:50at the same time, they're different
- 19:51players and and and I'm interested to
- 19:52hear your perspective as well. I know
- 19:54you're you're you're close to the
- 19:55Illinois program, which is kind of the
- 19:58the blueprint now for for doing that
- 20:01really successfully. I wonder, and maybe
- 20:04this is just like glass half full
- 20:05perspective of this Auburn team. I
- 20:07wonder if a guy like Montis and Engoy in
- 20:10their roles if it's a little bit easier
- 20:13for them to contribute this year because
- 20:15Yoic, I just felt like there was a lot
- 20:17going against him. undersized, needed to
- 20:20be skilled with the ball in his hands as
- 20:21a fourman, needed to be strong against
- 20:24SEC centers. And it's like all of those
- 20:26things are kind of and he got on campus
- 20:28so late. It's just kind of a tough ask.
- 20:30Whereas Montis, it's like, you know, it
- 20:33doesn't really matter what league you're
- 20:34playing in being able to score and
- 20:36create on the outside. With Enoy, like
- 20:38you're seven foot no matter where you
- 20:40are. You can block shots no matter where
- 20:41you are. Again, maybe that's
- 20:42overwhelmingly positive about those two
- 20:44guys, but I wonder if maybe those guys
- 20:46aren't better fits for this team as
- 20:49overseas players than a guy like Yoic
- 20:50was.
- 20:51>> It's interesting. I'm open to that. You
- 20:53know, I think that they're going to be
- 20:54asking them to play pretty defined roles
- 20:56as well, too. Like I think early with
- 20:58Yoic, the idea was like, oh, maybe he
- 21:00can be a stretch the floor four and that
- 21:02didn't really coales and under size.
- 21:04There's all these things. I think with
- 21:06these two international products, like
- 21:07they know exactly who they are. like
- 21:09Montis one he's really old right at I
- 21:12think he's already 24 years old it has
- 21:14positional size very mature type of
- 21:18build like just looks the part right
- 21:20good feel for the game I think is
- 21:22something that that pops now obviously
- 21:24not an elite level athlete but he can
- 21:26make shots and I think that they can use
- 21:28him as an offmovement shooter which is a
- 21:31good uh little wrinkle I think for this
- 21:34offense to mix in some things into this
- 21:36offense for Mike Berggo Master and then
- 21:38with Enoy, it's like do what you do well
- 21:42at a high level. Protect the rim,
- 21:44rebound the basketball, make good
- 21:46decisions when you have it, and play
- 21:48finish [snorts] for us, right? Like just
- 21:50finish the plays that we need you to do.
- 21:51And and if you do that, that's fine. So,
- 21:53I think I think you're right in the
- 21:55theory of like, hey, we're going to be
- 21:56asking these guys who are a little bit
- 21:58more veterans, who know how to play
- 22:00roles to play very specific roles where
- 22:02it was with Yovic, it was a little bit
- 22:03of like, hey, sometimes we need you to
- 22:05play the small ball five, other times we
- 22:06need you to play the four. our spacing
- 22:08is not super great when you're sharing
- 22:09the floor with Sebastian Williams Adams
- 22:11and Keshan Murphy like oh like now oh
- 22:14again here's another possession where
- 22:15you're going to watch Keshan Hall
- 22:16dribble 17 times like it just was hard
- 22:18for him I think to kind of figure out
- 22:21his best role and I think Yovic is
- 22:23actually be a really nice player for
- 22:24UCLA in a more specialized role that
- 22:27Auburn can use a lot of that similar
- 22:29idea with with these two international
- 22:31additions and yeah I mean international
- 22:33wave is not stopping NCA is trying to
- 22:35crack down on it a little But when you
- 22:37kind of look through these international
- 22:39class, you know, LSU's gets a lot of the
- 22:41buzz right now, but I I would put
- 22:42Auburn's two additions up there with
- 22:44anybody with, you know, I think they
- 22:45went two for two in finding two good
- 22:47role players.
- 22:49Yeah, I mean, I agree on Yovic for sure.
- 22:51Like he was a guy that, you know, when
- 22:52he portaled out, it was like a little
- 22:55bit of a sting because you felt like he
- 22:56had a good ceiling, right? It was and he
- 22:58showed some things down the stretch of
- 23:00the season
- 23:02>> particularly in the NIT that you were
- 23:04like okay you know he's he's got some
- 23:05stuff I think people needed to remember
- 23:07as well. Um, I was having a conversation
- 23:10with somebody about this like down the
- 23:12stretch in SEC play it was very very
- 23:14unsightly for for Yoic and then he kind
- 23:16of went and beat up on some on some mid-
- 23:19major teams in the NIT but at the same
- 23:20time like I wouldn't put him in the same
- 23:23group as Sway and Freeman of like high
- 23:25ceiling like man you hate to not have
- 23:27them back but still like a guy who who
- 23:30who showed a lot and I think we'll be
- 23:31better with another year of you know
- 23:33American college basketball under his
- 23:35under his belt. Um, we've been talking
- 23:37about Sway and Freeman. Th those guys
- 23:39are part of um some other really good
- 23:42SEC rosters and some other really good
- 23:45um roster building tactics that were
- 23:47done in in in the offseason. I think
- 23:49it's really funny to look now as we're
- 23:51looking at the 247 sports portal
- 23:53rankings at some of the uh you know
- 23:57couch burning that that felt like it
- 23:59went on in Lexington and then they end
- 24:01up with the number two class in the
- 24:03portal. Um, Texas kind of felt like it
- 24:06was the one that was just surging the
- 24:08entire time and Freeman was a big part
- 24:10of that. And then Tennessee I thought
- 24:12was an interesting as I'm just kind of
- 24:13looking at the top five classes in in
- 24:15the SEC here. Um, Tennessee was
- 24:17interesting as well because you kind of
- 24:18at least me I was looking up like man
- 24:21this was a really good team last year
- 24:22and they're they're they're kind of
- 24:23bleeding guys and then they go and
- 24:25replenish really really well. And so,
- 24:28um, I'll just kind of give the floor to
- 24:29you, sort of an overarching look at the
- 24:32league, whatever whatever teams you want
- 24:33to get into and and and who you think
- 24:35maybe did the best job of of elevating
- 24:38the their their team heading into next
- 24:39year.
- 24:40>> Okay. So, I do this exercise where I
- 24:42look at top 30 high major scorers,
- 24:44right? So, you're just looking at the
- 24:46five high major leagues, Big East, U,
- 24:48Big 12, ACC, Big 10, SEC. The SEC went
- 24:52out into the portal and reeled in 11 top
- 24:5630 scores from a high major league. 11
- 24:58of them are coming in. So what does that
- 25:00mean? That's just a lot of proven
- 25:01production. Okay. So then you look at
- 25:02the top 30 scores from the SEC last
- 25:04year. How many of them transfer portaled
- 25:05out? None. How many did they keep? 10.
- 25:09So I think heading into next year, you
- 25:11have the list of 21 high major or top 30
- 25:15high major scorers will be in the SEC
- 25:16next year. second of those leagues is
- 25:19the Big 10 at 14. So like the SEC
- 25:21basically just went like, "Hey, you're a
- 25:23really good player. You're coming to our
- 25:24league and you're a really good player
- 25:26and you're going to come to our league."
- 25:27So like that's the type of the proven
- 25:29talent that's heading in to the SEC. And
- 25:32you know, I'm doing these like way too
- 25:33early SEC tiers. I'm like I got down to
- 25:3510 teams and then Auburn was 11th of
- 25:38like legit NCA tournament team. No doubt
- 25:41could even snip a top 25. like th this
- 25:44this roster or this league is loaded. Uh
- 25:48let's start with te uh Texas, right?
- 25:51What they've done in the portal is
- 25:52outstanding. You could make a really
- 25:54strong case that they added the best
- 25:56offensive player in the portal and
- 25:58Isaiah Johnson out of Colorado and the
- 26:01best defensive player in the transfer
- 26:02portal out of uh TCU and David Punch.
- 26:05That is one heck of a combination,
- 26:07right? So then you toss in Elijah
- 26:09Freeman, they've added Mikey Lewis, they
- 26:12retained Matus Vocatitis, their big man,
- 26:15who was basically like a 15-9 guy last
- 26:17year and was outstanding. Like this
- 26:19group is going to be one of the most
- 26:21improved defenses next year. And I know
- 26:24transfer portal rankings are a little
- 26:25bit fluid and I I don't really
- 26:26understand how the algorithm works
- 26:28sometimes. I would put Texas's portal
- 26:30class up there with anybody. And they
- 26:33spent big time money, like big- time
- 26:35money to put this roster together. It's
- 26:37a pretty clear sign that Shawn Miller
- 26:40and just that whole Texas Brain Trust,
- 26:43uh, they they care about basketball.
- 26:44They want basketball to be something
- 26:46that is really important. And I think
- 26:47you guys have seen it too at Auburn.
- 26:49Like being good in basketball matters
- 26:51now. Like it just you just have to have
- 26:54it. Um, we can get into some of the
- 26:55other teams, but Texas is the one that
- 26:57starts out, you know, kind of gets your
- 26:59attention first because Amari Evans,
- 27:01Austin Gooseb, that's a five-star
- 27:04freshman coming in. Bo Ogden, Joe
- 27:05Sterling are top 50-ish freshman that
- 27:08they've added. I didn't even talk about
- 27:09those in their portal class. They've
- 27:10also added those guys. Um, and I I I
- 27:13think that roster is going to be
- 27:14outstanding next year.
- 27:17We mentioned the, you know, we don't
- 27:18have retention rankings, but sometimes
- 27:21those are the most important decisions.
- 27:23Um, I'm just somebody who's so high on
- 27:26what Vanderbilt has become. Um, I
- 27:28thought Mark Bington, like when UNCC
- 27:31came open, that was somebody if I was
- 27:33running that search, I would have had
- 27:34him in my in my mix. Um, and and we
- 27:37mentioned Sway a few times, but um,
- 27:39having seen Tyler Tanner in person, I
- 27:41mean, that guy is [laughter] he's just
- 27:43unbelievable and and will be one of the
- 27:45best guards in the country um, next
- 27:48season. Along with Tanner, who are who
- 27:50are some other teams, you know, in
- 27:52Vanderbilt? Who are a couple other teams
- 27:53where you're like, "Okay, maybe they
- 27:55didn't have, you know, a top 15
- 27:58transfer. I Vanderbilt might, but they
- 28:00didn't have like an unreal transfer
- 28:02class, but they're bringing back players
- 28:04X, Y, and Z and and should be an
- 28:06experienced team."
- 28:07>> Yeah. So, let's start with Vanderbilt.
- 28:09Um, Tanner, every coach that you talk to
- 28:12thinks that Tanner's so much better
- 28:14after they play him. They like they go
- 28:15in being like, "Hey, he's a good
- 28:16player." Then they play him, they're
- 28:17like, "Oh my god, guys." Like that that
- 28:19dude is like [snorts] unbelievable. So,
- 28:22um, he's he's outstanding and he is
- 28:24really just someone that makes
- 28:26everything else hum, makes everything
- 28:28easier. So, I think the one downside
- 28:30with Vanderbilt is like, oh, they're
- 28:31going to have a lot of new faces, but
- 28:32when you have Tanner back, like that
- 28:34just makes your life so much easier
- 28:35because he gets everybody great shots.
- 28:37And I think Mark Bington is a a really
- 28:40shrewd coach and his main point this off
- 28:43seasonason was we got to get bigger. We
- 28:44just can't have 67 67 66 along our front
- 28:47line with a you know 69 Jaylen
- 28:49Washington. So Sway is obviously going
- 28:51to be outstanding for them at the three,
- 28:53but they went and got Berke Bayel from
- 28:55Nebraska who was one of the better
- 28:57defenders in the Big 10. I think Sway
- 28:59could be one of the best defenders in
- 29:00the SEC next year. Ben got Dak gives
- 29:02them a little bit more size. So
- 29:04outstanding job. Outstanding job. I
- 29:06think Vanderbilt certainly going to be,
- 29:08you know, a top 25 caliber team. You
- 29:10know, another team that's kind of
- 29:11slipped under the radar, I think, a
- 29:12little bit this offseason is is Texas
- 29:14A&M. I think Bucky McMillan has a better
- 29:18roster this year than he did last year,
- 29:20right? And they were very a surprise
- 29:22team, I think, in the league, but they
- 29:24retained Mackenzie McBako, who was
- 29:26probably going to be their leading
- 29:27scoreer last year. Uh, and the work that
- 29:30they've done in the portal is
- 29:31outstanding. PJ Hagerty. I mean,
- 29:34basically pencil him in for 20 and five
- 29:36next next year, right? Like, he just an
- 29:38automatic 20 points a game. And then the
- 29:40guy that I would keep an eye on is
- 29:41Bryson Warren out of the G-League. He's
- 29:44like basically a 40% three-point shooter
- 29:46on insanely high volume. One of the top
- 29:48three-point shooters in the G-League
- 29:49last year. I think he's going to be
- 29:51excellent. Cade Phillips, a familiar
- 29:53name from from Tennessee, excellent
- 29:55defensive prospect. Uh and they have a
- 29:57lot of good depth there, too. But those
- 29:59three, especially at the top, Hagerty,
- 30:00Warren, and Mcbako are going to carry
- 30:03them. Just kind of scrolling through the
- 30:05list right now. It's like every roster
- 30:06you look at is like, "Oh, that's
- 30:07awesome." Uh it'd be dumb not to bring
- 30:09up Florida at this point is just like
- 30:12insane. Uh the fact that you could get
- 30:15Tommy Hul, Alex Condan, Ruben Chinula
- 30:17back is like absurd. Again, that year
- 30:20two transfer jump is going to be really
- 30:21important for Boogie Fland who was okay
- 30:23at times last year. Objectively bad
- 30:26offensively good defensively for long
- 30:28stretches. If they can actually get him
- 30:29to make a jump shot next year, that
- 30:31would be ideal. The thing with Florida,
- 30:33their ceiling really rests on Denzel
- 30:35Aberdine. You know, he's a guy who just
- 30:37transferred back into the mix from
- 30:39Kentucky. He's trying to get a waiver
- 30:41for another year of eligibility because
- 30:42he played 12 games as a freshman. On
- 30:45paper, that doesn't count, right? Like,
- 30:48if you play 12 games, that's over a 30%
- 30:50threshold. He was not injured. He
- 30:51doesn't have a real case for it. But if
- 30:53the NCA who keeps losing in court left
- 30:55and right, loses like a waiver appeal
- 30:58like this, you know, you're talking
- 31:00about a guy who's like 13 points a game,
- 31:0236% from three, really good at the rim,
- 31:04can really score at the SEC. starting at
- 31:07the two with all of those other four
- 31:08starters back. Like Florida would be a
- 31:10legit number one team in the country. So
- 31:12yeah, I could talk about every SEC
- 31:14roster for days because it feels like
- 31:16there's really not many bad ones outside
- 31:19of like Miss.
- 31:22Yeah, it's it the the Aberdine situation
- 31:24goes to show that especially if he gets
- 31:27the waiver, anything is possible because
- 31:29wasn't he the one that uh Golden had
- 31:32some interesting comments about on his
- 31:34way out when he transferred to Kentucky
- 31:35and now it's just like, "Hey, man, come
- 31:37on back.
- 31:38>> Welcome home. Welcome home, son. I
- 31:40missed you so much. The prodigal son is
- 31:42back." Yeah. Uh, exactly. I mean, it I
- 31:43mean Golden kind of like point blank was
- 31:46like, "Yeah, Kentucky outbid us for by a
- 31:48million dollars. We did not think he
- 31:50basically had an evaluation of like I
- 31:52don't know what the exact number was.
- 31:53I'm just assuming, hey Denzel, like we
- 31:55think you're a million-dollar player.
- 31:57Kucky's paying me too. Can you get to
- 31:58two to keep me? No, we think you're a
- 32:00million dollar player. And so he left.
- 32:01Like that was I think the probably the
- 32:04honestly the dollars and cents of it. Uh
- 32:06but if he could get another year of
- 32:07eligibility, I mean, Florida would be
- 32:11one of the oldest front lines mixed with
- 32:13two veterans in the back court that can
- 32:16both score and defend. like they'd have
- 32:18very few flaws on that roster.
- 32:20>> Yeah. And you know, that goes to show
- 32:22also why transparency is going to be the
- 32:24thing that helps us all in this modern
- 32:26college sports age because like what you
- 32:28just mentioned, that conversation is not
- 32:30a problem. It's not a big deal. It's
- 32:32just business. But when you don't have
- 32:34actual roster figures and contract
- 32:36numbers and stuff like that, you're left
- 32:38to just speculate these sorts of things
- 32:40and then you have comments about it and
- 32:41whatever. as opposed to if we were just
- 32:42able to see, hey, we're you're getting
- 32:44paid this much by this team or this much
- 32:46by this team, it'd be a lot easier to
- 32:47have these conversations. That's another
- 32:50that's another topic, though. Uh you
- 32:52mentioned waiverss, and it's kind of the
- 32:53last thing we'll talk about. Uh speaking
- 32:54of waivers, is so is LSU going to have
- 32:57all these guys? Like, are they all are
- 32:58they all going to be able physically and
- 33:01and and legally cleared to to play
- 33:03basketball this season?
- 33:04>> Oh, I'm I'm glad you said that. Um let's
- 33:06talk about them. So Yam Madar um is the
- 33:09Israeli guy who's awesome just like
- 33:11cooks people like I like where I was
- 33:13like looking through his tape. He's
- 33:15fantastic. Um he has I don't think he's
- 33:19playing basketball next year. I think
- 33:20LSU has also given up hope that he's
- 33:23going to be able to play college next
- 33:24year. Now he he's 25 years old. I think
- 33:26they had some hope that um since he had
- 33:29to do vol or in like he was basically
- 33:32forced to be in the Israeli military
- 33:34that he would be able to use that at to
- 33:36get a waiver to keep his clock alive. I
- 33:38don't think that's going to go through.
- 33:40I don't think he will play. RJ Lewis
- 33:42Lewis who was the Big East player of the
- 33:44year at St. John's went pro, did not get
- 33:48drafted, made a horrible decision. Uh
- 33:50now he's trying to come back. There's no
- 33:53chance he plays. I I would be like
- 33:55absolutely stunned if he plays. Like it
- 33:56just there's no precedent for it for him
- 33:58to play after the Charles Biako incident
- 34:01last year. So let's just toss those two
- 34:03guys out. The others I think will play.
- 34:05Um and who are those guys? Saloon Nyang
- 34:08really big long athletic wing who can he
- 34:11was a second round pick but he didn't
- 34:13ever sign an NBA contract. He's a little
- 34:14bit um he's very similar to the guy at
- 34:17Baylor. Why am I blanking on his name?
- 34:19Who got the year of eligibility back? Um
- 34:21James Naji. So I I would expect Nyang to
- 34:24be able to play. He's going to be
- 34:25terrific. I think this front court for
- 34:27LSU is going to be awesome. Bryce Dert
- 34:30and Michael Rusich are both two of the
- 34:32top international bigs. Dessert's like a
- 34:346869 bruising four. Rusich is like this
- 34:38sevenfooter who can shoot threes and you
- 34:40know finish above the rim. So I I think
- 34:42that they're going to get those guys
- 34:44eligible and it'll be just fine. Like
- 34:45they they're like a lot of the other
- 34:47international guys. Like their cases
- 34:48make a lot of sense. But I do not expect
- 34:50R.J. Luis to get cleared. And I don't
- 34:52expect Yamadar to play college
- 34:53basketball, which is a pretty big blow
- 34:55because their point guard situation is
- 34:57now like Devon Nuggetuku and Austin
- 34:59Nunees. Nuggetuku was a backup at
- 35:01Michigan State and Nunees was a terrible
- 35:02player at UTSA. So that that kind of
- 35:05shows you where LSU is at.
- 35:07Yeah, it feels like may may take a
- 35:09couple years for the Will Wade train to
- 35:11really get rolling there, but I don't
- 35:13think there's any doubt that it's going
- 35:15to like it if if he was able to do what
- 35:17he did at LSU previously and now like
- 35:21the shackles are almost completely off
- 35:23in the NC in in modern college
- 35:25basketball. You can kind of do whatever
- 35:26you want. Um it's like it fits perfectly
- 35:29for a guy like a guy like Will Wade to
- 35:31come back to the uh to the SEC. What is
- 35:33the you mentioned Betty Yako and yeah I
- 35:36kind of I mean seeing like just seeing
- 35:38physically the the that you know it's
- 35:40like RJ Lewis you know what he was in
- 35:43college and then you know declaring for
- 35:44the draft and being like I'm just going
- 35:45to come back and just it's the absurdity
- 35:48of it all. What is and maybe I just
- 35:50haven't I haven't been super up to speed
- 35:52on it. What do you think is the fix for
- 35:54this in the near future? Or or will
- 35:57there be any will they continue to just
- 35:59kind of one off cross off these
- 36:01individual cases and say no, you can't
- 36:03play or or do you expect some sort of
- 36:05blanket fix for for guys who are you
- 36:08know 20 and you mentioned that the you
- 36:09know them trying to crack down on on
- 36:11overseas players. I know that's a big
- 36:12part of it as well.
- 36:14>> Yeah. So the I think they're going to do
- 36:16it one by one at a time. Uh, I think in
- 36:18order to get to like the stage of like
- 36:21collective bargaining and like all of
- 36:24these like contracts being o like being
- 36:27set in stone, like that just seems too
- 36:29far for me. I don't see an upside for
- 36:31the players to do collective bargaining
- 36:33as well, right? Like if I'm a player,
- 36:35like I don't want collective bargaining.
- 36:37I don't want a cap on like what I could
- 36:39make. I I like the free market. I like
- 36:41this being nuts for me right now. I like
- 36:42that, you know, I could make um, you
- 36:45know,5 million dollars playing college
- 36:47basketball. If there was collective
- 36:48bargaining, I think that that the
- 36:50numbers would go down, the pay would go
- 36:51down. Uh, so I think it's going to be
- 36:53one at a time. Like, let's just address
- 36:55the international stuff. I don't expect
- 36:57the international stuff to be that big
- 36:59of a deal. The NCAA, if they keep
- 37:00cracking down on the older guys coming
- 37:02in, that's fine. That's just going to
- 37:04mean all of the international guys will
- 37:05start coming to college earlier as
- 37:07teenagers, and that's that's fine.
- 37:08That's as they should. Like, there's no
- 37:10problem with that at all. So, I think
- 37:11that will course correct itself
- 37:13eventually. Uh, I think the NBA is not
- 37:16going to continue to let guys try to
- 37:19pursue another year of eligibility after
- 37:21they got drafted. So, I think the NBA
- 37:23will help the college out colleges out
- 37:25in that regard um by by cracking down on
- 37:28those. And again, we still don't have a
- 37:29preent outside of one Tuscaloosa judge
- 37:32giving, you know, Bettyo a little bit of
- 37:35a TTRO, right? That he got to play for
- 37:37five games. Like, ultimately he got
- 37:38denied on that. we still don't have a
- 37:39precedent of that um actually getting
- 37:42approved where guys were able to play
- 37:43for a full season after getting drafted
- 37:45uh or after signing an NBA contract. So,
- 37:48I think that will continue to be uh the
- 37:50next lever for college athletics to kind
- 37:52of figure out some of these rules. And I
- 37:53think a lot of coaches are just
- 37:54frustrated because they're just like
- 37:56just give us a rule and let's just stick
- 37:57with it. It's been a little bit annoying
- 37:59by the NCAA to introduce new rules or
- 38:03regulations or policies, you know, kind
- 38:05of at the end of roster building or at
- 38:07the end of free agency. like look like
- 38:10we have to have a little bit more, you
- 38:12know, we have to have a little bit more
- 38:13foresight with some of these decisions
- 38:15that have that are being made. Um, and
- 38:17that and that's just the the hope as of
- 38:19now. But I I think they're just going to
- 38:20try to continue to tackle these one at a
- 38:22time in the near future.
- 38:24>> Yeah. And I and I appreciate Will Wade
- 38:26for being the kind of keeping things
- 38:28spicy. like you kind of thought, okay,
- 38:30well, the Betty Yako thing came and went
- 38:32and and uh and the Baylor player as
- 38:35well, but it's like, okay, you you get
- 38:37something new coming across the timeline
- 38:39every every few months of like, wow,
- 38:40never seen anybody attempt to do that
- 38:42before in in college sports. And so, uh
- 38:45yeah, you're right. You know, may maybe
- 38:46we'll see just judges continue to
- 38:49continue to rule over lit literally and
- 38:51figuratively rule over everything and
- 38:53get the stuff going. But um yeah, I know
- 38:55it's it's it's been driving coaches up a
- 38:58been driving coaches up a wall trying to
- 39:00trying to have rules and regulations. So
- 39:02maybe at some point in the future, but
- 39:03for for right now, like you mentioned,
- 39:05it was another off season of free
- 39:07market. It was another offseason of um
- 39:10you know, guys coming back to their
- 39:11previous school and saying, "Hey, uh
- 39:14you're not paying me enough and the
- 39:15portal closes tomorrow, so I'm going to
- 39:18hold you, you know, ransom for you know,
- 39:20an extra 500,000 or whatever, and if you
- 39:22don't do it, I'm I'm going in the
- 39:23portal." And we've seen that happen. I
- 39:24mean, that that's happened at Auburn
- 39:26both with guys who have left in in in a
- 39:29guy like Sebastian Williams Adams and
- 39:30guys who have stayed in Chad Baker Mazar
- 39:32a couple years ago. It happened for
- 39:33them. Like it's and I know that it's not
- 39:35just Auburn. I know it's everywhere
- 39:36across the across the country. But like
- 39:38you said, things settling down now. We
- 39:40have a good idea of every roster and we
- 39:42definitely appreciate you, Isaac, for
- 39:44giving us a lot of context on on the SEC
- 39:46and should be another really fun season.
- 39:49Like you said, if we're at a point where
- 39:5110 or 11 teams are entering game one
- 39:53feeling like they're top 25 caliber,
- 39:56it's going to be another going to be
- 39:57another really fun season in the league.
- 39:59Definitely looking forward to it.
- 40:00>> Buckle up, boys. And I didn't even bring
- 40:02up Alabama on this episode and they uh
- 40:05>> Aiden Holloway back, Kamari Allen back.
- 40:07Like they're going to be really good,
- 40:08too. So, yeah, buckle up. Every game is
- 40:10uh is going to be a war. And maybe Chris
- 40:12Beard will figure out a way to put a
- 40:13roster together because that one does
- 40:14not look like SEC Callison compared to
- 40:16the rest.
- 40:17>> No, it does not. Uh yeah, hopefully this
- 40:19this episode, by the way, for everybody
- 40:21listening, hopefully coincides. We're
- 40:22supposed to have SEC opponents this
- 40:24week, um not dates or anything, but like
- 40:27hopefully this week you will know
- 40:28Auburn's 18 SEC opponents and who their
- 40:31new rotating opponent will be other than
- 40:32Alabama and Old Miss. And so hopefully
- 40:34this will coincide with that and give
- 40:36you guys a little bit of information in
- 40:37uh in June about the uh upcoming Auburn
- 40:40basketball team. So for Isaac Troder
- 40:42from CBS Sports, uh Isaac, we always
- 40:44appreciate you on the show. We are
- 40:45looking forward to whenever you're on
- 40:47next. Hopefully next season we'll be
- 40:49able to talk some more Auburn [music]
- 40:50basketball once again. Uh but we
- 40:51appreciate everybody listening and uh
- 40:53Isaac, hope you're hope you're
- 40:54continuing to do well, man. And we
- 40:56appreciate having you on.
- 40:58[music]
