- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. But we have brand new power rankings. Yes,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I know it is the offseason, nobody has played a game,
- 0:24Speaker 1: but we had like a frenzied free agency, so Dan
- 0:28Speaker 1: han Zeus is going to be here to re rank
- 0:31Speaker 1: the teams ahead of the NFL Draft in the league
- 0:34Speaker 1: meeting coming up next week as well. This is NFL
- 0:37Speaker 1: Now on NFL Network from our newsroom in Los Angeles.
- 0:39Speaker 1: My name is Andrew Ceciliano. Thank you for being here.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We also have hot off the presses, a brand new
- 0:46Speaker 1: mock draft and the very first mock draft that Daniel Jeremiah,
- 0:49Speaker 1: our draft expert, has done since we got back from
- 0:53Speaker 1: the combine, and DJ has Bryce Young going number one
- 0:59Speaker 1: overall to the Carolina Panthers. Frank Reich Scott Fitterer has
- 1:02Speaker 1: said yesterday that the top four quarterbacks are all in
- 1:06Speaker 1: all likelihood gonna come in and visit the Panthers. Bryce Young,
- 1:10Speaker 1: who works out in two days live on NFL Plus,
- 1:13Speaker 1: DJ has going one. CJ. Stroud works out tomorrow on
- 1:16Speaker 1: NFL Plus. DJ has him going to then Will Anderson,
- 1:20Speaker 1: then Anthony Richardson at number four. DJ has two more
- 1:26Speaker 1: quarterbacks in the first round. He has Will Levis getting
- 1:29Speaker 1: to nineteen with the Bucketeers and hended hooker Brian Baldinger
- 1:34Speaker 1: going number twenty three to the Minnesota Vikings. We talk
- 1:37Speaker 1: quarterbacks last hour. What I also found fascinating is that
- 1:41Speaker 1: DJ has b Jean Robinson, the running back, going fourteenth
- 1:48Speaker 1: overall to the Patriots. What say you to that? Well,
- 1:54Speaker 1: it's an interesting pit by DJ, and I'm not saying
- 1:58Speaker 1: that he's wrong or right. Romandre Stevenson had a great
- 2:01Speaker 1: year last year. In the second year took over for
- 2:03Speaker 1: Damian Harris. Average five yards a carry. You can't expect
- 2:07Speaker 1: any back in this league to average more than that,
- 2:09Speaker 1: and he caught sixty nine passes. He kind of did
- 2:11Speaker 1: it all. But this offense, Andrew, let's face it, it it
- 2:14Speaker 1: needs some pop, it needs some juice. And if there's
- 2:18Speaker 1: one player on offense right now that you know you
- 2:21Speaker 1: can get that, and that's Bijean Robinson in this draft.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And if you know one thing, I think, whether it's
- 2:26Speaker 1: Billy O'Brien or Bill Belichick, they want to be able
- 2:29Speaker 1: to run the ball. And it's just gonna make life
- 2:31Speaker 1: easier for Mac Jones, and so if you had a
- 2:35Speaker 1: one two punch of Bijean Robinson and Romandre Stevenson, you
- 2:38Speaker 1: would have to respect that running game of the pager.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I know, the run game isn't gonna win you a
- 2:43Speaker 1: whole lot of playoff game, but it's gonna get you
- 2:45Speaker 1: to the playoffs, you know, and then how you play
- 2:47Speaker 1: because this offense needs some juice, and Bijon is that guy,
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think in this draft, and so I think it's
- 2:55Speaker 1: a it's a nice selection by DJ. A little out
- 2:57Speaker 1: of the box, but not far fetched at all. Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 1: out of the box. Also will Levis falling to nineteen
- 3:02Speaker 1: to the Tampa Bay Buccketeers. That would be fascinating though,
- 3:05Speaker 1: will Levis and Baker Mayfield and yes, Kyle Trask as well.
- 3:09Speaker 1: All right, hit the Patriots, let's do the Bills. In
- 3:12Speaker 1: the AFC East, DJ has him taking a wide receiver
- 3:16Speaker 1: with twenty seven overall at a TCU has him taken
- 3:21Speaker 1: Quinton Johnson, which would give Josh Allen a lot of
- 3:24Speaker 1: size on the outside, and that's what he brings. And
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot of different receivers in this draft.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Jordan Addison and Jay Flowers are great routers and Jayleen
- 3:34Speaker 1: Hyant's got great speed. But right now, Johnston has a
- 3:38Speaker 1: combination of size. He can run the go routes, he
- 3:42Speaker 1: wins contested balls, He's great in the red zone. Like
- 3:46Speaker 1: you can't coach his size and speed combination and his
- 3:50Speaker 1: leaping ability. And you put that with Josh Allen's arm,
- 3:54Speaker 1: you know, along with what Stefan Diggs does, whatever Gabriel
- 3:57Speaker 1: Davis gives you, like, this is a viable botafied passing
- 4:02Speaker 1: offense now. And I think Quinton Johnston is a guy
- 4:05Speaker 1: that could really make this thing flourish. I don't know
- 4:07Speaker 1: if it'll be there twenty seven. He's my favorite receiver
- 4:10Speaker 1: in the draft because of the things I just spoke about,
- 4:13Speaker 1: And so some other teams may covet that same big
- 4:16Speaker 1: X receivers the way you see from a DK Metcalfe
- 4:19Speaker 1: and some of those type players in his league. But
- 4:21Speaker 1: that's what he's capable of doing. And I think you'd
- 4:24Speaker 1: be a great fit if he could last to Buffalo
- 4:28Speaker 1: twenty seven. You put him opposite Stefon Digs. The news yesterday,
- 4:30Speaker 1: Devin's Singletary out and Damien Harris is in. As he
- 4:33Speaker 1: said at Running back there in the backfield behind Josh Allen,
- 4:37Speaker 1: Brian Boldinger, Thank you, Sir, Baldi's coming right back in
- 4:40Speaker 1: the meantime. Need to check the box here on our
- 4:42Speaker 1: daily update, our daily dose if you will of Aaron Rodgers.
- 4:45Speaker 1: If you were waiting for the trade to go down
- 4:46Speaker 1: this morning, think again. As of now it is not
- 4:51Speaker 1: yet gone down. But because Mike Garifolo is here, he's
- 4:55Speaker 1: our edit on the Organsider today, we're gonna ask either
- 4:58Speaker 1: Mike ask what Mark Murphy is saying this time, or
- 5:03Speaker 1: I guess for that better not saying this is a
- 5:06Speaker 1: little bit new. He can't talk about it. Yeah, he
- 5:12Speaker 1: can't talk about it. Well, he's sworn the secrecy. Well yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I mean that's the way it's supposed to be. But
- 5:19Speaker 1: we knew from the comments previous, previously from Mark Murphy
- 5:22Speaker 1: that it seems pretty clear that the Packers are looking
- 5:25Speaker 1: to move on to Jordan Love and complete this trade
- 5:27Speaker 1: with the New York Jets. So I again tell you
- 5:30Speaker 1: that we are just in a waiting period, and I
- 5:32Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if this is something that we're waiting
- 5:35Speaker 1: on through the month of March into the month of April.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Maybe closer to the draft, because that's where the point
- 5:40Speaker 1: where the Jets are going to tell the Packers, Hey,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know the value of our picks right now. Don't
- 5:44Speaker 1: you want this year's picks versus next year's picks, because
- 5:47Speaker 1: if you wait till after the draft, then it's going
- 5:49Speaker 1: to be next year's picks. Now, the Packers might just
- 5:51Speaker 1: be willing to wait through that and then say, well,
- 5:53Speaker 1: we think your picks are gonna be better next year
- 5:55Speaker 1: because you're upgrading a quarterback, so now we need more
- 5:57Speaker 1: picks in addition to what we were already asking for.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I mean, it's just it's a process playing out. It's
- 6:03Speaker 1: kind of a stair down. There's no rush on the
- 6:06Speaker 1: Jets end. They'd only need Aaron Rodgers in there, shure,
- 6:08Speaker 1: they'd love to have him sooner rather than later. But
- 6:10Speaker 1: it's not like he's got to get in there and
- 6:12Speaker 1: get caught up with the system. He can have his
- 6:13Speaker 1: own throwing session wherever he wants with his wide receivers.
- 6:16Speaker 1: He can set that up in California, he can come
- 6:18Speaker 1: to Jersey to do it. It's not a great rush
- 6:21Speaker 1: on the Jets end. It's not a great rush on
- 6:23Speaker 1: the Packers end. So we'll see where it goes. Mark
- 6:25Speaker 1: Murphy's not gonna tell us, although we're gonna try again.
- 6:28Speaker 1: We've got the league meetings next week in Arizona. We'll
- 6:31Speaker 1: try to get something out of it. Which maybe something
- 6:33Speaker 1: happens with Mark Murphy, the Packers president there and Woody Johnson,
- 6:36Speaker 1: the Jets owner, expected to be there as well, so
- 6:38Speaker 1: maybe they get together and something actually happens. I also
- 6:41Speaker 1: think there's an interesting date here to watch after the draft.
- 6:43Speaker 1: The draft is z April twenty seventh, but the week
- 6:46Speaker 1: after is the deadline for picking up fifth year options,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and the Packers would have to pick up Jordan Loves
- 6:51Speaker 1: fifth year option, which right now, if he's going to
- 6:53Speaker 1: be the guy you'd think they'd pick up. But that
- 6:55Speaker 1: is locking him in for twenty twenty four at an
- 6:58Speaker 1: eight figure yeah salary. Just another right date, which which
- 7:03Speaker 1: the Giants did not do for Daniel Jones and said,
- 7:06Speaker 1: if we have to come back and give you the
- 7:08Speaker 1: franchise tag, we're willing to do that. It's a bit
- 7:11Speaker 1: of a gamble. It's a bad problem or it's a
- 7:13Speaker 1: good problem to have. Excuse me. Maybe the Packers do that,
- 7:15Speaker 1: but we'll see and obviously jack the price up. Joe
- 7:18Speaker 1: Shane said, if if you knew that Daniel James would play,
- 7:20Speaker 1: I would also say this too. By the way, there
- 7:23Speaker 1: are agents of backup quarterbacks that would like to get
- 7:27Speaker 1: their clients into Green Bay, and the packers are like,
- 7:31Speaker 1: hold on, well, let's see where this Rogers. It's kind
- 7:33Speaker 1: of got everything on hold. From that standpoint for you,
- 7:37Speaker 1: all right, what's the deal with DeAndre Hopkins? We had
- 7:40Speaker 1: the trade for Brandon Cooks over the weekend. Is DeAndre
- 7:43Speaker 1: Hopkins the next veteran wide receiver to get moved? Ian
- 7:48Speaker 1: Rappaport reporting this morning that talks are heating up for
- 7:50Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins. I'm told that nothing is imminent, but Rappaport
- 7:55Speaker 1: has got a pretty good track record of reporting things,
- 7:57Speaker 1: So I'll stand by my colleague and say, yes, talks
- 8:00Speaker 1: are heating has messed up, talks are heating up. Andrew
- 8:04Speaker 1: doesn't mean he's only joking, but yes, DeAndre Hopkins got
- 8:08Speaker 1: a big number this year, nineteen and a half million dollars.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Here's what I was told today from a financial standpoint,
- 8:14Speaker 1: He's not looking to do what he did last time,
- 8:16Speaker 1: which was that trade from Houston to Arizona and then
- 8:20Speaker 1: boom huge contract extension on top of that, which is
- 8:22Speaker 1: part of the reason we're at a big number this year.
- 8:25Speaker 1: This is more of he understands he's got to make
- 8:27Speaker 1: the contract more palatable for whatever team is acquiring him.
- 8:30Speaker 1: If not so much about the finances, it seems like
- 8:32Speaker 1: it's more of a fit and a competitive standpoint for
- 8:36Speaker 1: DeAndre Hopkins here. All right, we just saw the conversation
- 8:38Speaker 1: Mike with Baldy about Bejean Robinson going fourteen to the Patriots.
- 8:42Speaker 1: That's what Daniel Jeremiah is mocking. What's today's date. It's
- 8:46Speaker 1: only the twenty first tier of March. We're still five
- 8:49Speaker 1: weeks away from the draft. Bejean Robinson, though, was visiting
- 8:52Speaker 1: the team today that has the tenth overall pick, is
- 8:57Speaker 1: the tenth overall pick and the thirtieth overall pick, the
- 8:59Speaker 1: Eagles getting that tenth from a trade with the New
- 9:02Speaker 1: Orleans Saints last year. So I don't see it happening
- 9:07Speaker 1: at ten for Bijean Robinson and the Eagles. I don't
- 9:10Speaker 1: think he lasts till thirty. DJ's got him at fourteen,
- 9:13Speaker 1: So maybe this is some kind of slide up scenario. Potentially,
- 9:16Speaker 1: or the Eagles just saying, hey, we've got these pre
- 9:18Speaker 1: draft visits, we're going to take an advantage of them.
- 9:21Speaker 1: So they are meeting with Beijean Robinson today in Philadelphia.
- 9:23Speaker 1: That's what that post was about there last night. He
- 9:26Speaker 1: had arrived in town last night. Look, we know how
- 9:29Speaker 1: talented he is. We know also that running backs in
- 9:32Speaker 1: the first round a lot of teams say not, we're
- 9:35Speaker 1: not going to do that. The Eagles haven't taken on
- 9:37Speaker 1: since nineteen eighty six when it was Keith Buyers. It
- 9:40Speaker 1: was more than just a running back, and certainly it
- 9:42Speaker 1: was a different era back then in the NFL. I
- 9:45Speaker 1: don't see how he Rosemen doing it at ten, But
- 9:47Speaker 1: you know, who knows what that last pick or maybe
- 9:49Speaker 1: a slide up scenario. I know DJ has talked about
- 9:53Speaker 1: the Eagles and Bijean Robinson being an amazing fit. He
- 9:56Speaker 1: feels like it would be a good time for Howie
- 9:57Speaker 1: to do something he's never done, which is take a
- 9:59Speaker 1: running back in the first round. We shall see, all right,
- 10:02Speaker 1: be Jean Robinson sitting there today in Philadelphia. They're picking
- 10:07Speaker 1: ten and thirty in good job working Keith Buyers into
- 10:09Speaker 1: the show. We're now going to work Cam Newton into
- 10:12Speaker 1: the show, because Cam made himself a news item last night,
- 10:16Speaker 1: putting out a well produced video in which he calls
- 10:19Speaker 1: out other quarterbacks in the NFL, said, there aren't thirty two,
- 10:22Speaker 1: bleep it. He bleeps better than me out there, and
- 10:25Speaker 1: then he is working out today at Auburn Pro day. Mike,
- 10:29Speaker 1: is there any noise of Cam Newton getting back in, Well,
- 10:36Speaker 1: there's noise at the pro day today and I don't
- 10:38Speaker 1: know if we have even still shots yet. He showed
- 10:40Speaker 1: up in some Zuba's pants. I saw some shots on
- 10:44Speaker 1: Twitter from from very far look like they might be
- 10:45Speaker 1: Auburn ubas pants. Yeah, go check it out. That Cam
- 10:51Speaker 1: Newton certainly looking at some of these, and he says,
- 10:53Speaker 1: if there's not thirty two, he's looking at the starters,
- 10:55Speaker 1: but he's also looking at the backups and some of
- 10:57Speaker 1: these guys that have signed, I'm sure with a chance
- 10:59Speaker 1: to potentially compete depending on the team in the situation
- 11:02Speaker 1: and who's the starter. So Cam Newton saying, you know what,
- 11:05Speaker 1: if I gotta show people that I still got it,
- 11:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna show people that I still got it instead
- 11:09Speaker 1: of having to go work out for teams, let me
- 11:10Speaker 1: do it at Auburn's pro day. Also gonna throw it
- 11:13Speaker 1: to his younger brother who was out of William and
- 11:15Speaker 1: Mary formerly of Auburn, as Tom Pallacero noted. So that
- 11:19Speaker 1: is happening shortly down there at the Auburn pro day.
- 11:21Speaker 1: We'll see if it's impressive enough for some teams to say, hey,
- 11:24Speaker 1: you know what, let's take a look at Cam new
- 11:25Speaker 1: all right, he's wearing Auburn colored zooboz. Looks like he's
- 11:29Speaker 1: lost some weight. Well, we'll effort these photos. Try to
- 11:31Speaker 1: work him in a little bit later, Cam Newton, different outfit, certainly, Garafolo,
- 11:37Speaker 1: thank you, La la la la la la Jeper Fields
- 11:44Speaker 1: cutch inside looking for the b line into the end
- 11:47Speaker 1: zone for the touchdown. Look to bienzone touchdown justin Fields
- 11:53Speaker 1: and he hit the gas early. Bion's looking at prout
- 11:58Speaker 1: down throw screen much twenty touchdown in the pocket. Now
- 12:07Speaker 1: runs away in the thirty five to thirty get the
- 12:10Speaker 1: first down. He got out of trouble. I have no idea, guys,
- 12:14Speaker 1: pretty good, Now what do you do? Heading into year
- 12:16Speaker 1: number three here? The Bears have made it pretty obvious
- 12:19Speaker 1: here the last two weeks going back to the combine
- 12:21Speaker 1: that the role of having the number one pick, which
- 12:24Speaker 1: they since traded is not to replace Justin Field. Justin
- 12:28Speaker 1: fields A big part it is to build around Justin fields.
- 12:32Speaker 1: And they have not been shy Brian Baldinger in making
- 12:35Speaker 1: moves here and spending money and trading down to number nine.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Who knows, maybe they trade again, maybe they move back up.
- 12:44Speaker 1: What do you think of what Ryan Poles has done
- 12:46Speaker 1: in terms of putting Justin Fields in a position to
- 12:50Speaker 1: succeed in year three? Well, it really helps Andrew that
- 12:54Speaker 1: he has the number one pick based on the three
- 12:56Speaker 1: wins a year ago. Disappointing for all Bear fans, But
- 13:00Speaker 1: with the number one pick in a year where you're
- 13:02Speaker 1: getting these quarterbacks that are is just in heavy demand,
- 13:05Speaker 1: it doesn't always happen that way, and so that you
- 13:08Speaker 1: can make a trade, you know, between Caroline and yourself,
- 13:11Speaker 1: drop down to nine, acquire a bunch of extra picks
- 13:14Speaker 1: and Dj Moore which becomes their number one receiver. You
- 13:17Speaker 1: get Darnell Mooney back, you get Robert ton Unit a
- 13:19Speaker 1: tight end with you know, with colecome At, I mean,
- 13:22Speaker 1: you bring in Nate Davis, who's been a four year
- 13:24Speaker 1: starter Tennessee at guard, and all of a sudden you say, okay,
- 13:29Speaker 1: we've identified Justin Fields as our starter. What can we
- 13:32Speaker 1: do to help him? I think it helped that, you know,
- 13:34Speaker 1: matt Eberfloss hired Luke Getsy to come in to be
- 13:37Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator because I like Luke a lot, and
- 13:40Speaker 1: I really like a lot of things he did with Justin.
- 13:42Speaker 1: And you can see this thing coming together, maybe pretty quickly.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And look, I don't know, ninety million dollars for Tremaine
- 13:48Speaker 1: Edmonds and t J. Edwards is worth the bang. But
- 13:52Speaker 1: he likes his two inside linebackers. They never come off
- 13:55Speaker 1: the field if there's productive as they weren't Buffalo and Philly,
- 13:58Speaker 1: he probably, you know, really struck gold and those two
- 14:00Speaker 1: players right there, all right, try to get Tremaine Edmonds
- 14:03Speaker 1: to play the role that they had Mattieberflus had with
- 14:06Speaker 1: Darius Leonard back in Indianapolis. Who spend the money? You
- 14:08Speaker 1: tried to upgrade that defense. It certainly needed to be upgraded.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I want to flip here to the Green Bay Packers
- 14:13Speaker 1: ask the same question about putting a quarterback, a young
- 14:15Speaker 1: quarterback in this case Jordan Love in position to succeed.
- 14:19Speaker 1: It's a little bit different here, though, Baldy Brian Goodacoon's
- 14:22Speaker 1: because until they make the Aaron Rodgers move, assuming they do,
- 14:27Speaker 1: they're a little bit handcuffed as to the other moves
- 14:30Speaker 1: they can make to put guys around Jordan Love, right,
- 14:36Speaker 1: And so Jordan Love still says, yeah, what about me,
- 14:39Speaker 1: Like it's my turn now? And I don't have Robert Tanyan,
- 14:42Speaker 1: and I don't have Alana's ard and I've seen receivers
- 14:45Speaker 1: go out the door of the year before, and what
- 14:47Speaker 1: am I? You know, Okay, we've got Christian Watson and
- 14:51Speaker 1: Romeo Dobbs and Aaron Jones. Okay, all right, what else
- 14:54Speaker 1: do we have? Because there's they literally have sat on
- 14:57Speaker 1: the sidelines here and watch all the free agency, all
- 15:00Speaker 1: this money, and really that's been the Green Bay's modus offer,
- 15:05Speaker 1: Ronde is they don't partake in free agency very often.
- 15:09Speaker 1: And you wonder, Okay, they've won a super Bowl, you know,
- 15:13Speaker 1: with Brett Farr and won with Aaron Rodgers, but maybe
- 15:16Speaker 1: if they had played in free agency a lot more
- 15:19Speaker 1: than they did, maybe they'd have more than two Super
- 15:22Speaker 1: Bowls between those two Hall of Fame quarterbacks. And so
- 15:25Speaker 1: George Love is sitting there, knowing the track record and
- 15:28Speaker 1: knowing that they're not going to overpay for players. We're
- 15:30Speaker 1: going to build to the draft ball. Okay, if you
- 15:33Speaker 1: hit on your draft picks. And right now, there looks
- 15:35Speaker 1: to be some real holes in that offense right now
- 15:39Speaker 1: for Jordan Love to take, you know, go underneath center
- 15:42Speaker 1: whoever that's going to be, and you know, start the
- 15:44Speaker 1: off season. And if they had made this move with
- 15:47Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers a couple of weeks ago, maybe they could
- 15:50Speaker 1: have been a little bit more aggressive in free agency.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Maybe they could have filled some of those holes right now. However,
- 15:55Speaker 1: they kind of had a sale made, as Garafolo just said,
- 15:57Speaker 1: there with Mark Murphy sworn to secrecy, Brian Baldinger, thank
- 16:02Speaker 1: you all rights to the bucket. Here's Baker Mayfield is
- 16:06Speaker 1: on the show yesterday, fresh off signing his new contract
- 16:10Speaker 1: with the Bucks. He is yet again betting on himself
- 16:15Speaker 1: and trying to fill in his own way some very
- 16:19Speaker 1: big shoes. Listen, I'm never gonna be Tom Brady. There's
- 16:25Speaker 1: a reason he has won so many Super Bowls. He's
- 16:28Speaker 1: the greatest of all the time, there's no doubt about that.
- 16:31Speaker 1: And I'm not gonna try and beat Tom. I'm gonna
- 16:33Speaker 1: be me. That's what's gotten me to this point. We're
- 16:35Speaker 1: gonna do it differently, but that's what makes this league
- 16:37Speaker 1: so special. Everybody puts their own touch on it. But yeah,
- 16:41Speaker 1: it's it's it's an honor to follow up with somebody
- 16:43Speaker 1: like that. And I'm definitely the people that have played
- 16:45Speaker 1: with him around here, I'm gonna pick their brain this
- 16:47Speaker 1: to the things he did, there's no doubt about that.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Mayfield told me after that he's gonna walk at his
- 16:51Speaker 1: own shoes. Now try to walk in Tom Brady's shoes.
- 16:54Speaker 1: As we have a full scale change here across the
- 16:57Speaker 1: NFC South at quarterback a division last year, Sarah Walsh
- 17:02Speaker 1: that was only really separated by one game here, anyone
- 17:04Speaker 1: could have one, and I mean Carolina Panthers well documented
- 17:07Speaker 1: could a one of Week seventeen. The Bucks obviously did,
- 17:10Speaker 1: but everybody was in it. And now we have, I
- 17:13Speaker 1: guess a quarterback battle. I mean, you think the former
- 17:17Speaker 1: number one overall pick has the clear advantage here over
- 17:21Speaker 1: Kyle Trask, but it's not like they're handing Baker the job.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I think Baker Mayfield does have the clear advantage. I mean,
- 17:28Speaker 1: look at his NFL experience to compared to Kyle Trasks,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and there's no comparison. Their Trask has thrown just nine
- 17:36Speaker 1: NFL passes. He has just three NFL completions. It's really
- 17:40Speaker 1: been like a red shirt couple of seasons for Kyle Trasks.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Since Tom Brady got here, which is the same time
- 17:45Speaker 1: Trask arrived, he was a second round draft pick. I
- 17:47Speaker 1: think they have to give Kyle trasky chance to win
- 17:51Speaker 1: this job. They need to see what they have in
- 17:53Speaker 1: that second round pick. But most people believe that when
- 17:56Speaker 1: Week one rolls around, it will probably be Baker Mayfield
- 17:59Speaker 1: starting for this Buccaneers team. Now, one way that this
- 18:02Speaker 1: Buccaneers offense is going to be vastly different from the
- 18:04Speaker 1: ones that we've in the past couple of years is
- 18:06Speaker 1: this offense is not going to revolve around just one guy.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And that is not said with disrespect to Tom, but
- 18:11Speaker 1: Tom Brady. This team was built around Tom Brady. It
- 18:13Speaker 1: was built to win, It was built to win a championship,
- 18:15Speaker 1: and they accomplished all of those goals. And Jason Lytton
- 18:18Speaker 1: Todd Bowles said as much as the combine that this
- 18:21Speaker 1: is no longer going to be about just one guy.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So when Baker was asked what it's going to be
- 18:26Speaker 1: like to play in this offensive system, and granted, nobody
- 18:29Speaker 1: really completely knows because it's a brand new offensive coordinator
- 18:32Speaker 1: and Dave Canalis, Baker said it's is going to be
- 18:35Speaker 1: his job to distribute the ball. He understands Canalis wants
- 18:39Speaker 1: to run the ball better. That was certainly a weakness
- 18:41Speaker 1: of this Buccaneers team a year ago. You've got basically
- 18:45Speaker 1: three offensive line positions up for grabs when it comes
- 18:48Speaker 1: to the starters. The only definitive starters there Ryan Jensen
- 18:51Speaker 1: and Tristan Worth. So they really need to solidify that line.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I suspect they'll try to do that through the draft
- 18:57Speaker 1: as well. But Baker's job is to be a ball distributor.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Andrew Dave Canalis coming Sarah from c Addle where he
- 19:04Speaker 1: was the quarterback coach. This past year, Gino Smith had
- 19:07Speaker 1: a pretty good season defensive side of the ball. Obviously,
- 19:10Speaker 1: cash is an issue here of the salary cap is
- 19:12Speaker 1: an issue. Last year, surprising people brought Carlton Davis back.
- 19:16Speaker 1: This year, I think surprising people brought Lavante David back.
- 19:19Speaker 1: What's this defense looking like under Todd Bowles here in
- 19:21Speaker 1: the off season where we sit Sarah. I think this
- 19:24Speaker 1: defense is no question that this defense is going to
- 19:26Speaker 1: be the strength of this Buccaneer's team. Baker said as
- 19:29Speaker 1: much yesterday. He said, this defense is going to be
- 19:31Speaker 1: really good. That's what's so attractive about coming to the Buccaneers.
- 19:33Speaker 1: He said, he understands that the defense led by Todd
- 19:36Speaker 1: Bowles is going to keep games very low scoring, so
- 19:38Speaker 1: then it's on them as an offense to best that. Now,
- 19:42Speaker 1: Jamal Dean. The return of Jamal I think was a
- 19:45Speaker 1: real surprise to some people because he was a very
- 19:48Speaker 1: attractive free agent, and said the Bucks managed to bring
- 19:51Speaker 1: him back four years, fifty two million dollars. So that
- 19:54Speaker 1: was a huge win for a buccaneer's team that I
- 19:56Speaker 1: think was prepared that the reality was he was going
- 19:59Speaker 1: to be so sought after that they would lose him.
- 20:01Speaker 1: So huge victory for the Buccaneers. They're a huge victory
- 20:04Speaker 1: that they were able to bring Lavonte David back. Andrew
- 20:07Speaker 1: and I apologize because clearly my voice is going a
- 20:10Speaker 1: huge victory to get through the segment without your voice going. However,
- 20:14Speaker 1: I was trying Andrew, thank you, you did it. You
- 20:17Speaker 1: stuck the landing. You are watching NFL now on a Tuesday.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Let's turn our attention yet again to the reigning NFC champions. Yes, Swedo,
- 20:30Speaker 1: they are in position to resign Jalen Hurts. What that
- 20:33Speaker 1: contract looks like? I don't know, take a guess, but
- 20:36Speaker 1: as they try to figure that out, and oh he's
- 20:39Speaker 1: earned it, look at who's coming in and going out
- 20:43Speaker 1: of the door the Novercare Complex in Philadelphia. Can you
- 20:47Speaker 1: tell that Adrian in Research who put this board together
- 20:50Speaker 1: is an Eagles fan because he not only included all
- 20:54Speaker 1: the player movement, he included all the coaching movement as well.
- 21:00Speaker 1: This is not Adrian Jeff Shidia hannicking about how they've lost.
- 21:06Speaker 1: This is him just saying that it's a lot and
- 21:10Speaker 1: they've also fought a lot of guys in fought a
- 21:11Speaker 1: lot of guys back James Bradbury, Darius Slay for example,
- 21:15Speaker 1: Jason Kelsey also big, have they done enough trying to
- 21:21Speaker 1: keep a division winning in a conference winning team together.
- 21:24Speaker 1: You're making my segment for me, and I know the
- 21:26Speaker 1: NFCS has a head of a Pea champion in a
- 21:28Speaker 1: long time, but I like what the Eagles have done.
- 21:31Speaker 1: The names you mentioned with Kelsey, Fletcher Cox as part
- 21:34Speaker 1: of that group, Brandon Graham as well. I think they
- 21:36Speaker 1: kept the culture going there. And some of these guys
- 21:39Speaker 1: are older in age, they're in your thirties, but when
- 21:41Speaker 1: you're run that team last year, you really noticed the chemistry,
- 21:44Speaker 1: the love in the locker room. Having those guys back
- 21:47Speaker 1: will make a difference in General manager Howie Roseman spoke
- 21:50Speaker 1: to this at the combine where he said, look, people
- 21:52Speaker 1: act like the office and starts when we start freaking out.
- 21:55Speaker 1: They've been preparing for this and so they have some
- 21:57Speaker 1: answers like Jordan Davis to replace a Jabon Hargrave and
- 22:00Speaker 1: then Nakobe Deane to replace the TJ. Edwards. They have
- 22:03Speaker 1: people in the mix, so they'll be ready, and I
- 22:05Speaker 1: think they're still the best team in the NFC East. Okay,
- 22:08Speaker 1: let's go to the NFC South. There mentioned again the
- 22:10Speaker 1: Carolina Panthers, who were in it with Steve wilkeson until
- 22:13Speaker 1: Week seventeen this past year. They have the number one pick.
- 22:16Speaker 1: They likely go with the rookie quarterback. They could go
- 22:18Speaker 1: with Andy dald at least to start here. Remains to
- 22:21Speaker 1: be seen how long he would hang on to that job.
- 22:23Speaker 1: But with feeling with Miles Sanders and with the state
- 22:28Speaker 1: of that division, can Frank Right win it in year one? Well,
- 22:34Speaker 1: I think it's quite possible because anybody could have won
- 22:37Speaker 1: it last year. It wasn't like it was that difficult
- 22:39Speaker 1: of a division. And I know Derek Carr landed in
- 22:42Speaker 1: New Orleans. But when you look at how the Carolina
- 22:44Speaker 1: Panthers are setting themselves up to play football with a
- 22:47Speaker 1: rookie quarterback, they have what you want. They have a
- 22:50Speaker 1: good run game with Miles Sanders replacing the Deante Foreman.
- 22:53Speaker 1: They add a Hayden Hurst at tight end. People freaked
- 22:56Speaker 1: out when they lost you Day Moore and at trade
- 22:58Speaker 1: to Chicago, but Adam Feeling comes in, you know, a
- 23:00Speaker 1: veteran receiver as well. But what I like it is
- 23:02Speaker 1: a defense and Scott Fitterer there. General Manner has talked
- 23:05Speaker 1: about his excitement for this defense, how explosive and athletic
- 23:09Speaker 1: it can be. Their middle of the road last yearful
- 23:11Speaker 1: you look at guys like Ryan Burns, J. C. Horne,
- 23:14Speaker 1: and you add a playmaker safety like Bond Bell, they
- 23:16Speaker 1: are going to be better on that side. Of the football.
- 23:18Speaker 1: So defense, run game, young quarterback. Yeah, they can do
- 23:21Speaker 1: it in that division. We're telling you there's a chance,
- 23:24Speaker 1: especially in the NFC South. Thank you, Jeff Jadid. Big
- 23:36Speaker 1: congratulations to Devin mccordy, noted brother of the star of
- 23:41Speaker 1: Good Morning Football, who at this hour is doing his
- 23:45Speaker 1: big goodbye in Foxboro, announced his retirement recently after thirteen
- 23:49Speaker 1: seasons a three time Super Bowl champion. He's on the
- 23:52Speaker 1: podium now talking about a lot of things, in gluding
- 23:55Speaker 1: his former teammate Kevin Falk And I think back to
- 24:00Speaker 1: just my time here was really defined by my rookie year,
- 24:04Speaker 1: my lock or being by Kevin's because Kevin played running back,
- 24:09Speaker 1: played fourteen seasons of running back. But he would always
- 24:13Speaker 1: just pour into me. We would sit there and he'd
- 24:15Speaker 1: be like, man, you know, you gotta get a routine.
- 24:17Speaker 1: Like whatever your routine is, you just do it day
- 24:19Speaker 1: in and day out. If they move the game, you
- 24:21Speaker 1: just move your routine. But you stick to your routine.
- 24:23Speaker 1: So I used to get in a sauna every day
- 24:25Speaker 1: because keV got in a song. I hated getting in
- 24:26Speaker 1: the sauna, but he was like, build a routine. I was,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I don't know, what I want to do, So I'm
- 24:30Speaker 1: just gonna follow Kevin James Sanders and that's what I
- 24:33Speaker 1: would do for like half my rookie years. I figure
- 24:35Speaker 1: out I don't like this, I want to get in
- 24:37Speaker 1: the cold up and then each year I might switch
- 24:39Speaker 1: something up little, but I stuck to that routine for
- 24:42Speaker 1: thirteen years. And that's what this building has been a
- 24:45Speaker 1: part of for me. Has been so many individuals that
- 24:49Speaker 1: cared about other individuals more than themselves, taking the time
- 24:53Speaker 1: to do great things. And I think that starts off
- 24:55Speaker 1: with mister Kraft. Any random morning you come down in
- 24:59Speaker 1: the morning meeting where bills running to meet, and mister
- 25:02Speaker 1: Kraft will be sitting in the back of the meeting
- 25:04Speaker 1: room and other guys would come to this team as
- 25:06Speaker 1: free agents and they'd be like, who is that, and
- 25:08Speaker 1: I'm like, that's the owner. That's mister Kraft, and they'd
- 25:11Speaker 1: be sitting there like he comes at these meetings. I'm like, yeah,
- 25:15Speaker 1: he truly loves this business. And I'm just so thankful
- 25:20Speaker 1: that my time here started with the two guys at
- 25:23Speaker 1: the top really believing in me and wanting me to
- 25:25Speaker 1: be here. Bro the even free agency, So wow, let's
- 25:30Speaker 1: just say the off season begins today. The Panthers now
- 25:33Speaker 1: control the draft. Sources say they have traded up from
- 25:36Speaker 1: the number nine overall pick all the way to number one,
- 25:41Speaker 1: Derek Carr agreeing to a contract with the New Orleans Saints.
- 25:45Speaker 1: The Chicago Bears are signing Tremaine Edmonds, the star linebacker
- 25:50Speaker 1: formally of the Buffalo Bills. Jimmy g headed to the
- 25:53Speaker 1: Raiders after six years with the San Francisco forty nine Ers.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Seed is a blockbuster trade the New York Giants acquiring
- 26:01Speaker 1: start tight end Darren Waller or Orlando Brown. He's on
- 26:05Speaker 1: his way to the Bengals. The Lions are signing former
- 26:10Speaker 1: Pairs running back David Montgomery. Javon Hargrave was going to
- 26:14Speaker 1: the San Francisco forty nine is for four years, eighty
- 26:17Speaker 1: four million dollars. Breaking news here. Cowboys are releasing Ezekiel Elliott.
- 26:24Speaker 1: It's official now. In Miami, the Dolphins have an outstare
- 26:27Speaker 1: trade with the Rams for safety Jalen Ramsey. I'll be
- 26:31Speaker 1: back on the air tomorrow waiting on Eric. So there's
- 26:36Speaker 1: nothing you could say, There's nothing you could say. They
- 26:38Speaker 1: can make it better, You're right. Other than that, it's over.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Free agency has kind of sort over. That was all
- 26:43Speaker 1: last week. And by the way, I said safety Jalen
- 26:45Speaker 1: Ramsey because the Dolphins announced him as a safety. Then
- 26:48Speaker 1: they took the tweet down and called him a corner.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Either way, a lot of people have spent a lot
- 26:52Speaker 1: of money in the last week. This also includes resigning
- 26:56Speaker 1: your own guys. So let's redo the power rankings everybody
- 27:00Speaker 1: NFL dot com slash Power Rankings everybody. Dan Hanzus puts
- 27:04Speaker 1: them together and high Dan, not surprisingly, the Chiefs are one,
- 27:07Speaker 1: the Eagles or two. You get it. But let's move
- 27:10Speaker 1: down your New York Jets and you say that this
- 27:13Speaker 1: is assuming Aaron Rodgers is there. Have moved up from
- 27:19Speaker 1: sixteen to nine, So you got them in the top ten, Dan,
- 27:25Speaker 1: but you don't have them like in the top five
- 27:28Speaker 1: or six. Well, you refer to me before the break
- 27:31Speaker 1: as a Jet spokesman. Pushback on that, but you understand
- 27:35Speaker 1: Andrew that I do my best as as a analyst
- 27:41Speaker 1: to keep my Jets fandom out of these things. And
- 27:44Speaker 1: I'm doing that. I'm doing my best. This is straight
- 27:46Speaker 1: up looking at this roster and looking at what a
- 27:50Speaker 1: not a good quarterback, but a potentially great quarterback could
- 27:53Speaker 1: do for an offense. Now, we need that offensive line
- 27:56Speaker 1: to be healthy. And I don't say we as the Royal,
- 27:57Speaker 1: we as the Jets and more talking about football and
- 28:00Speaker 1: the coverage of it covered myself there. The offensive line
- 28:03Speaker 1: needs to get healthier. They need to add is probably
- 28:05Speaker 1: through the draft, and they're gonna need to hold on
- 28:07Speaker 1: to that first round pick. I think that's what's holding
- 28:10Speaker 1: up that trade. But you have a great trio of
- 28:13Speaker 1: wide receivers, you have interesting tight ends. Breeze Hall could
- 28:16Speaker 1: be a star. If Aaron Rodgers is good too, great
- 28:18Speaker 1: this offense is going to score a lot of points.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And oh, by the way, they had arguably the best
- 28:21Speaker 1: defense in football for a large portion of last season
- 28:24Speaker 1: top ten. They deserve that spot. Let's see what happens next.
- 28:27Speaker 1: He's got to get there first. Now he's got to
- 28:29Speaker 1: get there first. We have a lot to get to. Oh,
- 28:30Speaker 1: by the way, I just want to throw this thing
- 28:32Speaker 1: in real quick. You call this leverage gate like Watergate
- 28:35Speaker 1: was nineteen seventy four. This isn't you. This just means overall,
- 28:38Speaker 1: like why we so have to use the suffix and
- 28:40Speaker 1: gate for anything? I don't get it anymore. I think
- 28:43Speaker 1: we can move past that. That said, let's get to
- 28:45Speaker 1: the right calls. You're the Vikings who won the division, right,
- 28:48Speaker 1: who had a home playoff game, who lost. Obviously, going
- 28:51Speaker 1: from ten to sixteen, I know they've lost some pieces
- 28:56Speaker 1: on defense, but that's a big drop, Dan, Yeah. And
- 28:59Speaker 1: part of that is because and I did the Power
- 29:02Speaker 1: rankings with you every week for NFL Now and we
- 29:05Speaker 1: talked about it often that I really struggled to put
- 29:08Speaker 1: the Vikings in a place as an NFL superpower despite
- 29:11Speaker 1: their record, which ended up at thirteen and four, because
- 29:14Speaker 1: it did feel like this was a much closer to
- 29:16Speaker 1: a nine or ten win team and it was just
- 29:18Speaker 1: one of those years. And I stand by that. And
- 29:20Speaker 1: I do think the roster is changing. Adam DeLand now
- 29:23Speaker 1: is out of there. I thought the Alexander Madison signing
- 29:26Speaker 1: was interesting in that Dalvin Cook, I don't know if
- 29:29Speaker 1: he's on this roster. Week one, Harrison Smith took a
- 29:32Speaker 1: haircut to stay around. I like the Brian flores hiher
- 29:35Speaker 1: The defense needs to be better, but I just see
- 29:37Speaker 1: this team is closer to the middle than a true
- 29:39Speaker 1: upper echelon team, and maybe in a little bit of
- 29:42Speaker 1: transition this year as well, Andrew, So we had Tom
- 29:45Speaker 1: Brady on I'm sorry, I had Baker Mayfield on yesterday.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Who who is you know? Now? The daunting task of
- 29:50Speaker 1: replacing Tom Brady? Dan, The Bucks were a playoff team
- 29:53Speaker 1: last year at twenty four, at twenty three, you have
- 29:57Speaker 1: them at twenty four and al due respect to Baker,
- 30:00Speaker 1: you know, I'm a Baker guy. Here. You have them
- 30:03Speaker 1: basically the same with Tom Brady on the beach and
- 30:06Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield there's their new quarterback. Yeah, because Tom Brady,
- 30:10Speaker 1: to me, for most of last season was about a
- 30:13Speaker 1: league average quarterback. Is as crazy as that is, and
- 30:16Speaker 1: I think that's part of the reason he's retired is
- 30:18Speaker 1: because of that. I think Baker comes with the highs
- 30:21Speaker 1: and lows. But as we talk about, Andrew, it's not
- 30:24Speaker 1: the power standings, it's the power rankings. They did make
- 30:27Speaker 1: the playoffs, but they were not a very good team.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I think they're a middling team another team in transition.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I think Baker wins this job over Kyle trust the
- 30:34Speaker 1: former second round pick. And it's interesting to me that
- 30:37Speaker 1: they brought back Lavante David and doesn't look like Mike
- 30:39Speaker 1: Evans is going anywhere. So they're looking to win the
- 30:42Speaker 1: NFC South. But I think this is, you know, right now,
- 30:44Speaker 1: to me, an eight or nine win type team at best.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Hence their placement. I got twenty seconds. Sean Payton, in
- 30:51Speaker 1: my opinion, should get the Broncos more than three spots up.
- 30:54Speaker 1: You're not impressed. It's not that I'm not impressed. I
- 30:57Speaker 1: just he has a big job ahead of him and
- 30:58Speaker 1: such a huge question mark with Russell Wilson. I like
- 31:01Speaker 1: what they did adding McGlinchey and powers to the offensive line.
- 31:04Speaker 1: If you get to see if Wilson can play the guitar,
- 31:07Speaker 1: then give him some better protection than see what he
- 31:09Speaker 1: can do. I thought it was very interesting Andrew Jared
- 31:12Speaker 1: Stidham the aggressive move to get him. I just wonder
- 31:15Speaker 1: how long Wilson's rope is. I would say maybe six weeks.
- 31:19Speaker 1: I don't think it's going to be a full season
- 31:20Speaker 1: Wilson struggling. If that indeed is the road they go down,
- 31:23Speaker 1: you now have me thinking, can Russell Wilson play the guitar?
- 31:26Speaker 1: And if so, can it be worked in somehow into
- 31:29Speaker 1: an awkward offseason commercial. Dan Hanzus the Power Rankings dot
- 31:34Speaker 1: Com Power rankings. The Jets are in the top ten
- 31:37Speaker 1: with Aaron Rodgers, even though they don't have Aaron Rodgers.
