- 0:01Speaker 1: And not get hold of.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Cham Who is the name during the trade deadline? This
- 0:19Speaker 2: should be an easy answer, exactly, Juan Soto, where will
- 0:25Speaker 2: one go? No, who is the name of the trade deadline?
- 0:28Speaker 3: Tech School?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Thank you. I think we've hit the point where we
- 0:34Speaker 2: can at least take official predictions from our fans. So
- 0:39Speaker 2: we're putting this out there on socials. Feel free to interact.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I know it's up on Instagram. Maybe Twitter will follow
- 0:46Speaker 2: what team will tech School be on after the deadline?
- 0:50Speaker 2: Questions of the day are coming to become a thing
- 0:53Speaker 2: on FT. We want to connect more with the fans,
- 0:57Speaker 2: the people and bring those questions on to the show
- 1:01Speaker 2: or there's answers onto the show, So let us know
- 1:03Speaker 2: your thoughts. I think it's okay to put this out
- 1:06Speaker 2: there because AJA teams are officially calling about him. Of
- 1:12Speaker 2: course they've lightly called about him, But to me, when
- 1:15Speaker 2: Ken Rosenthal puts the report out that he did yesterday
- 1:19Speaker 2: about the heavy call action that's going on and teams
- 1:24Speaker 2: not feeling like they need to wait anymore, that's when
- 1:27Speaker 2: it starts to get serious.
- 1:31Speaker 1: How many more days until the trick deadline?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Almost Monday?
- 1:35Speaker 1: I mean five more days?
- 1:37Speaker 4: Five more days and we can wait another year until
- 1:39Speaker 4: we have to talk about this again.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Like I it's the coolest thing. It's not.
- 1:44Speaker 4: I did a radio interview in Atlanta today and they
- 1:48Speaker 4: were like, I'm just tired of having to talk about
- 1:50Speaker 4: this because the Braves are in the middle of all this,
- 1:52Speaker 4: and I'm like, right, because I just I'm I'm the
- 1:55Speaker 4: this is why I'm not good at poker. I just
- 1:56Speaker 4: want to jump ahead to the end. I don't need
- 1:58Speaker 4: the speculation. I just want to know who wins or loses.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I don't need it. I don't need this.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And I know Baseball America loves this because, like I said,
- 2:07Speaker 4: I don't know the names of half of the guys
- 2:08Speaker 4: that are going to get traded anyway, So it doesn't
- 2:11Speaker 4: excite me for the thirty second prospect of the Braves
- 2:14Speaker 4: to get traded to the Tigers or terror School. Like
- 2:16Speaker 4: I know it's not going to be that person. But
- 2:18Speaker 4: I'm like, I just I just want to skip ahead
- 2:20Speaker 4: to the end.
- 2:21Speaker 2: No no, no, no, no, no, what what what? First of all,
- 2:25Speaker 2: you're acting like your favorite movie is Click, that Adam
- 2:27Speaker 2: Sandley movie where you just fast forwards through everything and
- 2:30Speaker 2: then he gets to the end and spoiler movie. Good
- 2:33Speaker 2: perspective wishes he didn't fast forward. But wait, Also, Adrian,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I don't care if you don't know all the prospects.
- 2:38Speaker 2: You know the major league players, like, don't worry about
- 2:40Speaker 2: who the Braves are giving up. We have people on
- 2:43Speaker 2: our FT network that can come on. But if Google
- 2:45Speaker 2: does go to the Braves and they win a World Series,
- 2:47Speaker 2: that makes this time of year worth everything. And that's
- 2:51Speaker 2: why it's so major. This is I respectfully could not
- 2:55Speaker 2: disagree with you more. This is my favorite week of
- 2:56Speaker 2: the year. This is literal Christmas in July.
- 3:00Speaker 4: You still have our own opinion, Scout, and that's your opinion,
- 3:02Speaker 4: and I have my opinion. I mean, I like it
- 3:04Speaker 4: when trades happen, and I liked it people get to
- 3:06Speaker 4: switch teams and all that. I just hate to lead
- 3:08Speaker 4: up to it, right, I hate to lead up to where, Oh,
- 3:11Speaker 4: is terk'schooble going to get you? It was like with
- 3:12Speaker 4: Wan Sodo, Oh where's Wan going to go? Just tell
- 3:15Speaker 4: me when one signs. That's all I want to know.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I don't need to go through the rumors because the rumors,
- 3:20Speaker 4: most of them aren't true anyways, I just want to
- 3:22Speaker 4: know where he ends up signing. I want to know
- 3:23Speaker 4: where Trek' school will gets traded to when trek'scooble, if
- 3:26Speaker 4: he gets traded, where he gets treated, tell me where
- 3:28Speaker 4: he's going, and then we can analyze where he's going
- 3:30Speaker 4: to be at after that.
- 3:31Speaker 1: But all the rest of it is all speculation.
- 3:34Speaker 3: It is speculation. But I also enjoy the like I
- 3:38Speaker 3: enjoy the aspect of seeing the gifts under the tree
- 3:42Speaker 3: and going I wonder if that right there is what
- 3:46Speaker 3: I think it is. I enjoy seeing like, Okay, I
- 3:49Speaker 3: know the Phillies need X, Y and Z, and I
- 3:53Speaker 3: know Dombrowski's doing these types of things, but there's always
- 3:57Speaker 3: something else that we don't necessarily see. We always see
- 4:00Speaker 3: the teams that are not going for teams that are
- 4:02Speaker 3: definitely going for it, and terror schoogle, Like, I think
- 4:06Speaker 3: this move is going to be crazier than we think,
- 4:09Speaker 3: just because he's throwing today and then his next start
- 4:12Speaker 3: should be Sunday. Unfortunately, we might have to come on
- 4:16Speaker 3: on the weekend because I don't think he makes another
- 4:19Speaker 3: start after this, and I think that means the next
- 4:23Speaker 3: four days are gonna be hot and heavy, because I
- 4:27Speaker 3: know he's the guy that teams want and they're going
- 4:31Speaker 3: to pursue, and he'll be that domino that falls. I
- 4:33Speaker 3: don't think they wait till Monday when you could have
- 4:36Speaker 3: him for one extra start on Sunday.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yep. And so give us answers to the question where
- 4:42Speaker 2: you think he's going to end up. It is also
- 4:44Speaker 2: on X or Twitter to be able to answer there.
- 4:47Speaker 2: So people watching right now, we want to get your answers.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We'll talk about it later. And last thing, AJ, you're
- 4:51Speaker 2: a reaction not speculation fan, which is fine. Some people
- 4:55Speaker 2: love the speculation leading up. You are more of a
- 4:58Speaker 2: tell me what happened and then I will break it
- 5:00Speaker 2: down for you. I don't want to spend my time
- 5:02Speaker 2: telling you what Trek School looks like in a raised
- 5:04Speaker 2: uniform if he doesn't get traded to that.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Team, so it waste the time.
- 5:09Speaker 2: It's a flavor, choice of flavor. My flavor is more
- 5:13Speaker 2: speculation oriented, and that's why we are one happy family
- 5:16Speaker 2: on FT. So here's someone who kind of speculated with
- 5:20Speaker 2: a call out for charge the mound. If you're watching us,
- 5:27Speaker 2: you already know we're wearing Mack Weldon. Right now, as
- 5:29Speaker 2: we talk about a great brand that makes things so
- 5:32Speaker 2: comfortable and easy to wear. But if you're listening to
- 5:35Speaker 2: the show, let me tell you a little bit more
- 5:36Speaker 2: about mac Weldon with my friend Aer Kratz.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's comfortable, it's light. It's summertime right now. For me, though,
- 5:45Speaker 3: they cater to what I need tall clothes. Normally, when
- 5:49Speaker 3: I buy tall clothes it's like something that's cumbersome and boxy.
- 5:53Speaker 3: It still fits incredibly well, super light, perfect for the summertime.
- 5:59Speaker 3: They got me all covered.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Comfortable performance material can be yours. Mack Weldon is the spot.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Don't sweat the heat this summer. Feel as effortlessly cool
- 6:11Speaker 2: as you look. With mack Weldon, go to Mackweldon dot
- 6:13Speaker 2: com and get twenty percent off your first order of
- 6:15Speaker 2: one hundred and twenty five bucks or more with promo
- 6:17Speaker 2: code foul. That's m ackw e L d o N
- 6:20Speaker 2: dot com code foul.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Charge on that.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I think this is good juice, this is good drama
- 6:29Speaker 2: in Philadelphia. What do we have here, Kratz. The Phillies
- 6:32Speaker 2: are three and eight since the All Star break. They're
- 6:35Speaker 2: not scoring runs. I want to do a quick history
- 6:38Speaker 2: lesson that'll take a few sentences. In the offseason, Dave
- 6:41Speaker 2: Dombrowski said that last year, Bryce Harper did not have
- 6:44Speaker 2: an elite year. Bryce Harper was asked about the team
- 6:49Speaker 2: right now, and I'll let him take it away with
- 6:52Speaker 2: the quote. We'll talk through it and then we'll eventually
- 6:55Speaker 2: get what I thought was a pretty spicy quote from
- 6:57Speaker 2: Don Mattingley as well. But first off, you don't offer
- 7:00Speaker 2: and hear players call their own team out and say
- 7:02Speaker 2: we need to get some reinforcements here to the extent
- 7:07Speaker 2: of like a seven to ten. I feel like it's
- 7:08Speaker 2: usually a five, like hopefully our management believes in us
- 7:11Speaker 2: and we get better. This felt a little more direct.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Let's listen.
- 7:16Speaker 1: I think there's a line of our team would be
- 7:18Speaker 1: good pitching in October, because presumably come October you guys
- 7:22Speaker 1: will see quite a.
- 7:22Speaker 5: Bit of it.
- 7:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think we need some help, you know,
- 7:26Speaker 6: But you know, I think we've proved, you know, pretty
- 7:28Speaker 6: much all year, We've we've done a pretty good job.
- 7:31Speaker 6: But you know, anytime you can get some help in
- 7:33Speaker 6: here and reinforcements, I think it helps.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Do you think that help would be best coming in
- 7:39Speaker 5: the form of an arm or a band?
- 7:41Speaker 6: I think both, you know, I think Obviously, everydon knows
- 7:45Speaker 6: what we need. So I think I've said it over
- 7:47Speaker 6: the last kind of days.
- 7:50Speaker 1: We need both, no problem. But he said, I think
- 7:56Speaker 1: we're trying to make something out of nothing. We need help.
- 7:58Speaker 4: So what every player says this, we need help, we
- 8:00Speaker 4: need he they're not in first place, and they're not
- 8:02Speaker 4: I don't have the best record in baseball, They're not
- 8:04Speaker 4: running away with everything.
- 8:05Speaker 1: We need some help. Okay. I mean I think this is.
- 8:08Speaker 4: One of those things where because it's Philly, because it
- 8:10Speaker 4: is Bryce Harper, we're gonna try to make this into
- 8:12Speaker 4: a bigger deal than it is.
- 8:14Speaker 1: How many times I was asked during the season, Hey,
- 8:16Speaker 1: what do you think? Do you need something?
- 8:18Speaker 4: Yeah, we need help because you know what, Guys are tired,
- 8:21Speaker 4: Guys are worn out, Guys aren't playing their best, guys
- 8:23Speaker 4: are hurt.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Whatever it is, every team.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Says, yeah, we could use some help, whether that comes
- 8:27Speaker 4: from guys coming off the injured list, like certain teams
- 8:30Speaker 4: like the Dodgers have Snell and Glasstown, some of these
- 8:32Speaker 4: guys coming off the il. The Rangers, right eventually are
- 8:35Speaker 4: gonna get Corey Seeger back, so that's their thing, right,
- 8:38Speaker 4: But to say this and now it's a big deal.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I don't.
- 8:42Speaker 4: I don't think this is a big deal. This is
- 8:43Speaker 4: him wanting to be honest. Yeah, we need some help
- 8:45Speaker 4: because guys are beat up, guys are tired. We're not
- 8:47Speaker 4: playing great, you know what, We're not in first place,
- 8:49Speaker 4: so yes, we need some help.
- 8:52Speaker 3: I would kind of disagree. But first Scott, he didn't
- 8:55Speaker 3: say he didn't have an elite year. Dombrowski said he's not,
- 9:00Speaker 3: and he didn't think Freddy Freeman was the lead. So
- 9:03Speaker 3: that was Dombrowski's comments.
- 9:04Speaker 1: So maybe maybe.
- 9:05Speaker 3: It's a little shot from Bryce to Dombrowski. But I
- 9:09Speaker 3: have an example. In twenty fourteen, I was on Jose
- 9:13Speaker 3: Bautista's Toronto Blue Jays. We were two and a half
- 9:16Speaker 3: out of the wild card. I got traded to the
- 9:19Speaker 3: Kansas City Royals, who was two and a half out
- 9:21Speaker 3: of the wild card at the time. And the papers
- 9:27Speaker 3: or Jose Bautista said in the paper, well, you know what,
- 9:31Speaker 3: we need more than this. They traded like for Danny
- 9:33Speaker 3: Valencia or something for me like that wasn't their big trade.
- 9:36Speaker 3: They were hoping they would go out and get David
- 9:38Speaker 3: Price that year. They end up getting him the next year.
- 9:42Speaker 3: At the same time, I'm in the Royals locker room
- 9:45Speaker 3: and the guys were like, Eh, we don't need we
- 9:49Speaker 3: don't need help. I think we got the guys that
- 9:50Speaker 3: we need here now. Obviously we went to Game seven
- 9:54Speaker 3: World Series and lost. Obviously the Blue Jays didn't make
- 9:58Speaker 3: the playoffs that year, and they made a bigger move
- 10:00Speaker 3: the next year. I say that to say this, Harper's
- 10:05Speaker 3: comments only matter if there are no moves, which Don
- 10:10Speaker 3: Browski will definitely make moves, and if the Phillies don't win,
- 10:14Speaker 3: Because really, the answer is in that locker room, who
- 10:17Speaker 3: are they going to get That's better than Bryce Harper.
- 10:19Speaker 3: That's better than Kyle Schwarber, That's better than Trey Turner,
- 10:23Speaker 3: should be better than jt. Real Muto, should be better
- 10:27Speaker 3: than Brandon Marsh was hitting, Like, there's a lot of things.
- 10:30Speaker 3: The answers are in that locker room. They need help.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I don't feel like in this case, Harper's calling out
- 10:37Speaker 3: anybody other than you know, maybe the Gabriel Ringconees or
- 10:43Speaker 3: the I'm trying to think who else is running a
- 10:46Speaker 3: platoon type of thing, Like the answers are in that
- 10:51Speaker 3: number five starter, like we just had we just had
- 10:54Speaker 3: Brian Keller on is either number five starter? Probably not.
- 10:57Speaker 3: They probably want a veteran type of like the answers
- 11:01Speaker 3: are there, so I don't think he's necessarily calling anybody out.
- 11:07Speaker 3: But is that necessary? And does that hurt somebody's feelings?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Maybe you know whose feelings it hurts the dude that's
- 11:13Speaker 3: a twenty fourth or twenty fifth man on the roster
- 11:15Speaker 3: and that's just you know, does that break up the
- 11:18Speaker 3: locker room? No, if they win, it's going to because
- 11:22Speaker 3: of the dudes that are already in that locker room
- 11:23Speaker 3: in my opinion.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Okay, well, Don maddingly thought otherwise, let's get to his comments,
- 11:28Speaker 2: which just happened before our show.
- 11:32Speaker 5: Since Bryce thinking about it, I don't really since anybody
- 11:34Speaker 5: else thinking about it, honestly, and you've been through this.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Guys want to be GM's what you need without a
- 11:43Speaker 5: real understanding of where the organization is exactly what where
- 11:48Speaker 5: east thing goes, not only this year.
- 11:50Speaker 1: But moving forward.
- 11:51Speaker 5: So again, players like being GM's and make them calls and.
- 12:00Speaker 1: To other people's money. So I just let it go
- 12:04Speaker 1: with that. I mean, they've been doing this a while.
- 12:10Speaker 5: He's never really backed away from trying to get guys,
- 12:14Speaker 5: we're trying.
- 12:14Speaker 1: To get better. You know we're gonna try to get
- 12:16Speaker 1: better at the deadline, so we did. Am I bothered?
- 12:26Speaker 5: No, I just don't like I don't like it from
- 12:28Speaker 5: the fact of what I've always what I've been saying
- 12:32Speaker 5: that you're saying that we don't like our players better here,
- 12:37Speaker 5: and I just don't. I think you're always trying to
- 12:41Speaker 5: get better.
- 12:41Speaker 1: You should always.
- 12:43Speaker 5: Incrementally try to get better, no matter who you are.
- 12:45Speaker 5: If you're you're the Dodgers who've won too straight they're
- 12:48Speaker 5: trying to get better in different ways. We're in the
- 12:52Speaker 5: same boat, right, You're always trying to get better. But
- 12:57Speaker 5: I'm to say something in it.
- 13:00Speaker 1: About our team.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Then you're saying something about one of our players that you.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Don't like it. Do you feel we need to talk
- 13:08Speaker 1: to him in articulation? Not really, I mean Bryce is Bryce.
- 13:11Speaker 5: He's gonna say what he wants, So I'm not really
- 13:15Speaker 5: concerned about it. I just take it kind of with
- 13:17Speaker 5: a grain salt and knowing how players are over the years.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I heard this. This is not the first time I've
- 13:25Speaker 1: heard this. You know, we need, we need I always
- 13:30Speaker 1: look at it like internally, you know, I gotta get better.
- 13:35Speaker 1: We got to get better.
- 13:38Speaker 5: And that's simple as that.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Okay, if you think what Bryce said is fine and
- 13:44Speaker 2: I agree with you, AJ, then you can't like what
- 13:46Speaker 2: Don Mattingly said because he basically went against him. Then
- 13:49Speaker 2: you know, Donnie, he's pretty chill and mild manner. That
- 13:51Speaker 2: was Donnie going full blast.
- 13:54Speaker 4: Uh No, Donnie was trying to diffuse it and just
- 13:57Speaker 4: put an end to it and say, hey, Bryce can
- 13:59Speaker 4: say what he wants. And I'm a manager and I
- 14:02Speaker 4: have to manage twenty six people, twenty five others besides Bryce,
- 14:06Speaker 4: plus plus the coaching staff, plus front office. So Donnie's saying, hey, guys,
- 14:12Speaker 4: this is how I'm gonna shut this down.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I don't have a problem with either one of.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Them saying this. This is Bryce says he wants some help. Okay,
- 14:19Speaker 4: he has righteo's opinion. Don Mattingly said that, and Don
- 14:22Speaker 4: Mattingley has to deal with all twenty six players, and
- 14:24Speaker 4: he's saying Bryce can't say what he wants.
- 14:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Do I like it that he's saying this.
- 14:28Speaker 4: No, But at the same time, I have to shut
- 14:31Speaker 4: this down and try to nip it in the bud
- 14:32Speaker 4: because we're in Philly.
- 14:33Speaker 1: So both of them did their job. Both of them
- 14:35Speaker 1: said what they want to say. I have no problem
- 14:36Speaker 1: with either one of this.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Again, I think this is getting blown way out of
- 14:39Speaker 4: proportion and it's not that big of a deal.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I love this because we get to see the how
- 14:46Speaker 3: Don Mattingly thinks he would have handled it when he
- 14:48Speaker 3: was a star. He was essentially Bryce Harper. Bryce Harper's
- 14:51Speaker 3: not a Hall of Famer yet Don matting was having
- 14:54Speaker 3: a star type of career. He missed the Hall of Fame.
- 14:57Speaker 3: So they're like, kind of on that page. Isn't this
- 14:59Speaker 3: why they brought Don Mattingly into this coaching staff in
- 15:02Speaker 3: the first place. They needed some of that could be
- 15:04Speaker 3: able to speak to some of these stars like this.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Sure, but I've covered Don Mattingly for a long time.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I know you guys know him and have covered him too.
- 15:16Speaker 2: The first part of that quote is something that you
- 15:19Speaker 2: don't see very often from him, like the oh, you know,
- 15:22Speaker 2: players love to spend the money and make all these
- 15:26Speaker 2: moves and call this out and all of that. Like,
- 15:28Speaker 2: to me, that sounds a little bit management, tapering down
- 15:32Speaker 2: players from commenting about how they feel. I agree with you, guys,
- 15:36Speaker 2: Bryce Harper should be able to say, yeah, we need help.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Why do they need Well, first of all, if you're
- 15:39Speaker 2: a contending team, every contending team should be looking to
- 15:42Speaker 2: make trades. And the Phillies have very obvious needs with outfield,
- 15:46Speaker 2: starting pitcher, and of course some bullpen helps. So yes,
- 15:50Speaker 2: they do need help. It's fair for him to say that.
- 15:52Speaker 2: And I do think that you don't think that this
- 15:56Speaker 2: has anything to do with Dombrowski from the beginning of
- 16:00Speaker 2: the season and Bryce being like, Hey, I'm gonna I'm
- 16:02Speaker 2: going to push back to the front office and be like, hey, guys,
- 16:06Speaker 2: make sure you supplement this because the one thing that
- 16:08Speaker 2: I've called out with the Phillies for years that I've
- 16:10Speaker 2: been on the money with is the product from especially
- 16:14Speaker 2: from the offensive side, has not been there. In the playoffs.
- 16:16Speaker 2: You can say, oh, is the Dodgers pitching this go round?
- 16:19Speaker 2: And they were really close and all of that, but
- 16:21Speaker 2: it's it's a few guys and then and we've seen
- 16:24Speaker 2: that right now, Kratz. It's a few guys and then
- 16:26Speaker 2: it looks like the rest of the lineup needs help.
- 16:28Speaker 2: It's it's top heavy here.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Okay, I mean, yes, Bryce would love somebody to protect him.
- 16:33Speaker 3: I think Boris even said that in the offseason he
- 16:36Speaker 3: needs somebody behind Bryce. So maybe there's some of that.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Maybe he wants somebody protecting him. I can get I
- 16:41Speaker 3: can get on board with that theory. But this is what.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Just put a microphone in front of every one of
- 16:46Speaker 3: the relievers during the game. All the relievers in the
- 16:49Speaker 3: bullpen play GM the entire game. Hey what about this guy?
- 16:53Speaker 3: What about Oh? I don't think they're going to get
- 16:55Speaker 3: rid of that guy. You know, those conversations do happen
- 16:57Speaker 3: all the time because players have a lot of time
- 16:59Speaker 3: on there.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Okay, so nothing.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Guys do this all the time. They just doesn't get public.
- 17:09Speaker 4: And Bryce didn't call anybody out specifically. Bryce didn't say
- 17:12Speaker 4: I we need this, we need dot. He said we
- 17:14Speaker 4: need a hitter and a starter or a pitcher. Okay,
- 17:16Speaker 4: every team out there would say I could use another starter, pitcher, hitter.
- 17:20Speaker 4: They could every team that's in contention. If you went
- 17:23Speaker 4: to any team in baseball right now, maybe.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Not the Dodgers.
- 17:26Speaker 4: The Dodgers might not say this, but the Dodgers guys
- 17:27Speaker 4: will probably even say the same thing. If you were like, hey,
- 17:30Speaker 4: full transparency here what do you think we need? Every
- 17:32Speaker 4: team would say we need a pitcher and a hitter.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Boom done. Okay, okay.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Only thing I'll point out one more time is the
- 17:40Speaker 2: first part of the answer. Guys want to be a
- 17:43Speaker 2: GM for what you need without a real understanding of
- 17:46Speaker 2: where the organization is, exactly where this thing goes, not
- 17:49Speaker 2: only this year, but moving forward. Players like being gms
- 17:52Speaker 2: and making calls and spending other people's money. I'll just
- 17:54Speaker 2: let it go at that. Come on from Don Mattingly,
- 17:58Speaker 2: You think that means nothing.
- 18:01Speaker 1: He's shutting it down. He's trying to shut it down.
- 18:03Speaker 1: He's telling the truth. Guys trying to him. We do
- 18:07Speaker 1: it on the show, Scott, We do it on the
- 18:09Speaker 1: show all the time. We spend other people's money. It's
- 18:11Speaker 1: so easy to spend other people's money.
- 18:13Speaker 4: We do it all the time. He's just basically saying,
- 18:16Speaker 4: I don't want this to become a big story.
- 18:18Speaker 1: It's over with. Guys do this all the time.
- 18:20Speaker 4: Don Mattingly was trying to be as politically correct as
- 18:22Speaker 4: he could and not cause a bigger stink.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Okay, that's fine. I think a lot of fans looked
- 18:28Speaker 2: at it as like, oh, you're trying to oh players.
- 18:30Speaker 2: They just want to be the GM and think it's
- 18:32Speaker 2: all easy. There's a lot going on behind the scenes,
- 18:34Speaker 2: like okay, regardless, the Phillies are going to do things.
- 18:38Speaker 2: It's not about that. It's just I thought it felt
- 18:40Speaker 2: a little bit more than the usual. Hey, we hope
- 18:43Speaker 2: that the front office believes in us and does moves
- 18:45Speaker 2: in the off season or in the trade deadline season.
- 18:48Speaker 2: But agreed to disagree. Big second half of the season
- 18:51Speaker 2: coming up, there might be a hot ticket, a rivalry series,
- 18:55Speaker 2: a sold out experience they need to get your hands on,
- 18:58Speaker 2: and seek is the spot for that. You can find good,

- 19:38Speaker 2: with that promo codver running all season long, Territory one zero.

- 19:57Speaker 2: Poor Curtis Mead, Oh my goodness, AJ. It originally looked like, okay,
- 20:02Speaker 2: maybe day to day, that's what we talked about on
- 20:04Speaker 2: the prior show. Now it's like, wait, he fractured his wrist.
- 20:09Speaker 2: So it's a player that's going to a significant time.
- 20:12Speaker 2: It could be surgery, could be done for the season.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Even if it's not surgery, I think it's still looking
- 20:17Speaker 2: at probably a two month recovery timetable. August is around
- 20:21Speaker 2: the corner, August September, that brings us to October, Like
- 20:25Speaker 2: this is devastating news for the player to be excited
- 20:29Speaker 2: to go to a new team in a park like
- 20:31Speaker 2: this that he can take advantage of and continue his
- 20:34Speaker 2: breakout season. So thoughts on how this affects, of course
- 20:37Speaker 2: him and the Red Sox now aftermath, like do you
- 20:40Speaker 2: just basically do what jab said and start making the
- 20:43Speaker 2: phone calls for another righty with pop?
- 20:46Speaker 4: Yes, you do exactly what Jim Boden said as far
- 20:49Speaker 4: as the player goes, I've been through this. I remember,
- 20:52Speaker 4: you know, you get X rays, nothing happens, nothing happens,
- 20:55Speaker 4: and boom, all of a sudden, you get more imaging
- 20:57Speaker 4: and they find a crack or they find a small frack.
- 21:00Speaker 4: You're in there and then you're out, and then you
- 21:02Speaker 4: then your next thing is where do you go? And
- 21:03Speaker 4: I remember when I broke my wrist. I broke my
- 21:05Speaker 4: left wrist and it was in the middle of August
- 21:08Speaker 4: and the White Sox Radaway was like, well, you're out
- 21:10Speaker 4: for the year.
- 21:10Speaker 1: You have to have surgery.
- 21:11Speaker 4: And I was like after they couldn't find on the
- 21:13Speaker 4: original X ray anything wrong with it. They're just like, oh,
- 21:15Speaker 4: it's just a bruise, would just heat nice and then
- 21:18Speaker 4: boom a couple of days later, it's not getting any better.
- 21:20Speaker 4: You'll get more imaging, they find what's broken, and then
- 21:22Speaker 4: they say, oh, you're out for the season automatically, and
- 21:24Speaker 4: then as the player, you're like, whoa, whoa, whoa, let's
- 21:26Speaker 4: take a let's take a step back here. You have
- 21:29Speaker 4: the right to a second opinion. I'm sure. I'm sure
- 21:32Speaker 4: meat is doing this. Like I fowt a guy named
- 21:34Speaker 4: Tom Graham who was in Cleveland at the time.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Who was the number one hand guy in the world.
- 21:38Speaker 4: We sat down for hours and discussed whether I should
- 21:40Speaker 4: have surgery. And then the question I always ask a doctor,
- 21:43Speaker 4: if I was your son and you were giving me advice,
- 21:45Speaker 4: what would you do? And you basically that out there,
- 21:48Speaker 4: I wouldn't do the surgery they want you to have.
- 21:49Speaker 4: I think you'll be fine, You'll be able to heal.
- 21:51Speaker 4: It's just going to be pain tolerance. And I was
- 21:53Speaker 4: back playing in two weeks.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Now.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Should I have been I don't know.
- 21:56Speaker 4: But I wanted to finish the year and I wanted
- 21:57Speaker 4: to not be hurt for that rest of the year,
- 22:00Speaker 4: for the last six weeks, So I played the last
- 22:02Speaker 4: month of the year with a broken wrist. Okay, fine,
- 22:05Speaker 4: now me, I don't know what his I don't know
- 22:07Speaker 4: what his diagnosis is. I don't know where he's at,
- 22:09Speaker 4: but I know he's having the best year of his career.
- 22:11Speaker 4: So he doesn't want it to end. So he's going
- 22:13Speaker 4: to do everything in his power to get back on
- 22:15Speaker 4: the field. And if you're the Red Sox, man, it's
- 22:18Speaker 4: just bad luck. It is bad luck. It could have
- 22:19Speaker 4: happened to any time, any point anywhere. If you're the
- 22:22Speaker 4: if you're the if you're the Gnats, you're like, who,
- 22:25Speaker 4: we dodged a bullet and we got Connolly early. Wow,
- 22:27Speaker 4: that's amazing. And if you're the Red Sox, you got
- 22:29Speaker 4: to just keep on truck and keep playing. Well, I
- 22:31Speaker 4: hope you're pitching holds up and find another bat because
- 22:34Speaker 4: that no one's gonna feel sorry for you.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I promise, yeah, I don't.
- 22:40Speaker 3: I don't think there's any other way than just continue
- 22:43Speaker 3: to truck on and honestly, like, if you're the Gnats,
- 22:49Speaker 3: you've made hitters this year, so deal from your hitters
- 22:53Speaker 3: game pitchers like they did with Early, and continue from there.
- 22:58Speaker 3: If you're the Red Sox, they I love their pitching
- 23:01Speaker 3: lab or what they've created with pitching. That's why they
- 23:04Speaker 3: didn't fire any of those dudes, so they feel like
- 23:07Speaker 3: they can create pitching. They can they have pitching, and
- 23:10Speaker 3: if they don't rate now, you know, or if they
- 23:12Speaker 3: get rid of some of these guys right now, they
- 23:14Speaker 3: can create more pitching. So continue to trade from that
- 23:17Speaker 3: because if they truly think they're as good as they're
- 23:22Speaker 3: eighteen of twenty wins, then yeah, you have to push in.
- 23:26Speaker 3: You have to make that move, as Jim said, for
- 23:29Speaker 3: a netto because he's going to give you ten to
- 23:32Speaker 3: fifteen homers for the rest of the season. You're talking
- 23:34Speaker 3: about a guy that's controllable at a position that you
- 23:37Speaker 3: know what, maybe they're out of love for Trevor Story.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Now, yeah, and that's part of the equation here too.
- 23:44Speaker 2: For the Red Sox. You know, Trevor Story is still out,
- 23:47Speaker 2: he's been out since late May. Hernie a surgery for him.
- 23:51Speaker 2: And then you've got you know, Marcella Meyer was supposed
- 23:54Speaker 2: to have a big year. He's had his fair share
- 23:56Speaker 2: of injuries and underperformance so far this season. So you know,
- 24:00Speaker 2: there are some guys that could come back and make
- 24:01Speaker 2: an impact. The problem is when you're Boston made this
- 24:04Speaker 2: awesome winning streak run, you're still a fringe playoff team, like,
- 24:08Speaker 2: they still need to continue to truck forward from here.
- 24:11Speaker 2: You can't take a step back. So that's why they're
- 24:12Speaker 2: looking for some immediate reinforcements. You only have a few
- 24:15Speaker 2: days to figure this out. Also, they're not the only
- 24:17Speaker 2: ones that are interested in Zach Nedo right now. So
- 24:20Speaker 2: for example, Robert Murray from fan Sided an FT insider,
- 24:24Speaker 2: reported that the Rays are looking into Nedo. They're also
- 24:28Speaker 2: looking into Freddy Peralta. Those are some players that they
- 24:31Speaker 2: have interested. So I'm like, Okay, the Rays have prospect capital,
- 24:35Speaker 2: they can definitely keep up in a trade with the
- 24:37Speaker 2: Red Sox if they're bidding for the same player at
- 24:39Speaker 2: AJ and Tampa Bay might make a big splash like
- 24:42Speaker 2: that and then send Boston back to the drawing board.
- 24:44Speaker 2: And I know that's not the only player that's available,
- 24:46Speaker 2: but just using someone like Neto as a prime example
- 24:49Speaker 2: here of someone that will give you above average offense,
- 24:51Speaker 2: different kind offensive profile, but going to give you a
- 24:53Speaker 2: lot of pop. I know some people in the chat
- 24:55Speaker 2: we're talking about the plate discipline and all that, Okay,
- 24:58Speaker 2: I mean every player has a different profile. That's what
- 25:01Speaker 2: Zach Netto brings to the table. He's an a swing,
- 25:04Speaker 2: big home run guy right, going for thirty plus from
- 25:08Speaker 2: the middle infield. So anyway, thoughts on Neto and Rai's
- 25:11Speaker 2: interest and how this could become you know something interesting
- 25:15Speaker 2: here if they even want to trade him, Let's remember
- 25:19Speaker 2: what Ken rosant, He's going to be already Morino might
- 25:22Speaker 2: not trade him.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I don't know that he's going to be traded.
- 25:25Speaker 4: I don't think Neto's gonna be traded because already Morino
- 25:27Speaker 4: likes stars, and I think that already Mano thinks that
- 25:29Speaker 4: Neto's a star, so I don't think he wants to
- 25:31Speaker 4: trade him. That's one of the reasons why Croud has
- 25:33Speaker 4: been there and already loves position player stars. So I
- 25:35Speaker 4: don't think he's going to be treated. But this goes
- 25:37Speaker 4: back to the Rays. They're casting a wide net to
- 25:39Speaker 4: see because they what we were just told, what were
- 25:42Speaker 4: we just told that they think this is their chance
- 25:44Speaker 4: to really make a run in the American League because
- 25:46Speaker 4: it's so down. So I think that Eric Neander and
- 25:49Speaker 4: those get in the front office, and Kevin Cash and
- 25:51Speaker 4: and all the rest of the raised people are saying,
- 25:53Speaker 4: we got a chance to hear guys to at least
- 25:54Speaker 4: make the World Series because the American League is so down,
- 25:57Speaker 4: and I think Netto is a name that has been
- 26:00Speaker 4: talked about. Now can they get them? I don't know, but.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I think the Rays are going to try everything they
- 26:05Speaker 1: can to really improve this team.
- 26:08Speaker 3: I don't I mean, I'm not saying they're not going
- 26:10Speaker 3: to try to improve the team. I just don't think
- 26:12Speaker 3: Netto's a guy if he were on if he were
- 26:14Speaker 3: on the Rays roster, we'd be talking about getting to
- 26:18Speaker 3: that point where the Rays get rid of a player
- 26:20Speaker 3: like this and all of a sudden they're going to
- 26:21Speaker 3: go and pick him up. Like it's not that he's
- 26:23Speaker 3: a he's not a star. He's the type of guy
- 26:27Speaker 3: that the Rays are like, oh we can we can
- 26:28Speaker 3: definitely flip this. And I think this is the This
- 26:31Speaker 3: is when the Red Sox have to move. They were
- 26:33Speaker 3: reluctant to move when any bats they balked at Alex Bregman.
- 26:38Speaker 3: I think Bregman wanted to come back. He told them
- 26:40Speaker 3: what it was going to take, and they balked on it.
- 26:42Speaker 3: Whether it's Breslo or front office. Like, to me, this
- 26:45Speaker 3: is when Boston while they're still a fringe team, and
- 26:48Speaker 3: I think, you know, that winning streak really gave them
- 26:52Speaker 3: a little bit of you know, makeup on a pig,
- 26:54Speaker 3: a little false, false evaluation of themselves. I think they
- 26:59Speaker 3: can still add to this team for the coming years.
- 27:03Speaker 3: And the Marcella Meyer thing not being able to play
- 27:05Speaker 3: short or not not having as good a year like
- 27:08Speaker 3: he was a shortstop coming up. You don't just like
- 27:10Speaker 3: go to the big leagues and then say, hey, you
- 27:12Speaker 3: know what, we're gonna play at third. We're gonna play
- 27:13Speaker 3: at second. But you're still supposed to hit during this
- 27:15Speaker 3: whole time, and you're supposed to play through injuries. I
- 27:17Speaker 3: think that's tough to ask of a young player, but
- 27:20Speaker 3: they're doing it because they weren't willing to bring in
- 27:23Speaker 3: that older veteran guy who should be able to do that,
- 27:27Speaker 3: not a young twenty two to twenty three year old.
- 27:31Speaker 2: You know. Also, I like to give context on how
- 27:33Speaker 2: the league evaluates players. To put it simply for wins
- 27:39Speaker 2: above replacement, right, and whatever the league or many teams
- 27:43Speaker 2: use their version, it's very very similar to the war
- 27:46Speaker 2: number zero to two is more of like your bench
- 27:50Speaker 2: player or whatever, you know, low end starter. When we
- 27:55Speaker 2: get to the four to five range, that's actually a
- 27:57Speaker 2: star player. Two to three is like solid every day guy.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Four to five is when you're getting to all star status,
- 28:02Speaker 2: and then when you're getting to six to seven, that's
- 28:05Speaker 2: superstar status, and then MVP status above that. Okay, zach
- 28:09Speaker 2: netto Baseball Reference War twenty twenty four or five point
- 28:13Speaker 2: one twenty twenty five, five point three currently two point
- 28:17Speaker 2: nine on pace for probably pretty close to five. The
- 28:21Speaker 2: league is saying this a star player, I should get
- 28:23Speaker 2: a All Star turn. When you watch him, do you
- 28:27Speaker 2: necessarily think that? I don't know. At some times sometimes
- 28:29Speaker 2: you do. I don't know if that would be like
- 28:31Speaker 2: coming to mind right away. And I don't even know
- 28:33Speaker 2: if he's made an All Star team yet. Nope, he hasn't.
- 28:35Speaker 2: But that is the evaluation point. So it's going to
- 28:38Speaker 2: be painful if you're trading for control of a shortstop
- 28:42Speaker 2: who is looked at as a star player.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where I think the eye test.
- 28:51Speaker 4: I think the eye test there has to stand out
- 28:53Speaker 4: a little bit because if you ask people are on
- 28:55Speaker 4: the Angels in putting people on Halo territory, they don't
- 28:58Speaker 4: think that he is that right?
- 29:00Speaker 1: Am I wrong?
- 29:00Speaker 4: And think you're saying that they don't think that he
- 29:02Speaker 4: is a star and they watch him every night, so yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 4: I mean, I know the numbers are the numbers, but
- 29:10Speaker 4: what is he two thirty with nineteen?
- 29:12Speaker 1: What is it just numbers?
- 29:14Speaker 2: I forget exactly what his numbers are?
- 29:15Speaker 3: Nineteen?
- 29:16Speaker 1: I mean this two thirty nineteen, you know, seven sixty two? Ops?
- 29:20Speaker 4: I mean is that a five war player? I guess
- 29:24Speaker 4: it is in today's game, So I mean strikeouts. There's
- 29:26Speaker 4: a lot of strikeouts in there, not a ton of wars.
- 29:29Speaker 1: I mean only two according to MLB.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So well that's the MLB. I think that's the firefighters.
- 29:33Speaker 1: No, I know, I know war, but that's.
- 29:35Speaker 2: The MLB version.
- 29:36Speaker 3: That's why.
- 29:36Speaker 4: That's why, because I agree not everyone now everyone calculated
- 29:42Speaker 4: the same.
- 29:42Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 29:44Speaker 4: I think zach Ndo is a really good player, and
- 29:46Speaker 4: I think he could help some teams, but I don't
- 29:47Speaker 4: know if he's franchise altering like I think some people
- 29:50Speaker 4: might be thinking he is.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Mm hmm. That's fair. It's a good combo. And now
- 29:54Speaker 2: the Red Sox have to go back to the drawing
- 29:56Speaker 2: board and they're gonna have to compete because there's just
- 29:58Speaker 2: not a ton necessary available. We're not hearing a ton
- 30:02Speaker 2: of teams. Go all right, we're throwing the towel in
- 30:04Speaker 2: right now, let's step aside for one quick minute and
- 30:07Speaker 2: then we'll give you a show. Hey, Otani update and
- 30:09Speaker 2: much more news to cover here.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Hey, anywhere I go in baseball these days, all I
- 30:16Speaker 4: hear about is analytics and data and exit velocity and
- 30:20Speaker 4: pitch grips and spin rates and all this inverted vertical
- 30:24Speaker 4: break and everything that you're hearing about. It can all
- 30:26Speaker 4: be found with rap Sodo. It can all be delivered
- 30:29Speaker 4: to any level baseball. And it is important because it
- 30:32Speaker 4: is always talked about.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Now, Yeah, these are tools that are measured, and now
- 30:36Speaker 2: you can get those tools measured at say the high
- 30:38Speaker 2: school level. This is a big one for high school programs.
- 30:40Speaker 2: They can get one thousand dollars off Rapsodo Pro two
- 30:43Speaker 2: point zero and Pro three point zero, making it easier
- 30:46Speaker 2: to bring pro level player development tools into your facility.
- 30:49Speaker 2: And it's not just baseball. Rahap Soodo Softball is helping
- 30:51Speaker 2: softball players and coaches train with the same data driven
- 30:54Speaker 2: mindset built specifically for their game. So whether you're building
- 30:57Speaker 2: a program, developing players, or just tired of guessing go
- 31:01Speaker 2: to rapsodo dot com and learn more data wins rap
- 31:04Speaker 2: Sodo helps you use it. This is like half injuries
- 31:11Speaker 2: suck because he's still playing, he's hitting. It's just a
- 31:13Speaker 2: matter of when he'll be pitching again, Katie Wu from
- 31:17Speaker 2: Dodger's Territory and the Athletics said, speaking to the media
- 31:20Speaker 2: for the first time since before the break, Otani said
- 31:23Speaker 2: both his left knee and right bicep are not one
- 31:26Speaker 2: hundred percent, which further factored into him not throwing the
- 31:29Speaker 2: bullpen last weekend. Dave Roberts said the Dodgers still expect
- 31:32Speaker 2: Otani to pitch in October, so this sounds like it'll
- 31:37Speaker 2: be some extended time away from the mound here that
- 31:41Speaker 2: will continue for the Dodgers. We know that right We've
- 31:44Speaker 2: talked about the Cy Young race being done for him
- 31:47Speaker 2: and that whole song and dance. Let's relate it to
- 31:50Speaker 2: what's going on right now. Aj do you think that
- 31:53Speaker 2: the Dodgers should be concerned in terms of what their
- 31:56Speaker 2: rotation is going to look like in October or everything
- 31:59Speaker 2: is still in line? Is in Katie's articles, she almost
- 32:02Speaker 2: is writing how the Dodgers might sell at the deadline,
- 32:04Speaker 2: not anybody significant. But they get into these roster crunches,
- 32:07Speaker 2: and they did sell a little bit last year at
- 32:09Speaker 2: the deadline with someone like Dustin May It just they'll
- 32:12Speaker 2: look at somebody and be like, oh, this is this
- 32:14Speaker 2: is not a five starter for us anymore. This is
- 32:16Speaker 2: not a fourth or fifth outfielder for us anymore. Let's
- 32:19Speaker 2: trade him away and replenish the farm system. So thoughts
- 32:22Speaker 2: on what the rotation could look like and if the
- 32:24Speaker 2: Dodgers are going to end up selling you know, one
- 32:26Speaker 2: of their back end roster guys.
- 32:29Speaker 4: I mean the Dodgers. Anything is possible for the Dodgs.
- 32:32Speaker 4: You know how show heard his vice? Have I heard
- 32:34Speaker 4: from someone? Because when he was carrying the World Series
- 32:36Speaker 4: trophies into the Oval office and putting him on the
- 32:39Speaker 4: desk of the office, did you guys see that?
- 32:43Speaker 1: But he was like a look at me, guys, I
- 32:44Speaker 1: got two.
- 32:45Speaker 4: Now because I'm not on the Angels anymore. But uh yeah, listen,
- 32:49Speaker 4: I don't know. This is a question that I had
- 32:51Speaker 4: from the get go. If you guys remember what Hams
- 32:53Speaker 4: of Showy Wake seven goes Man, pitching is really hard.
- 32:56Speaker 4: I don't want to do that anymore. I just want
- 32:57Speaker 4: to be a hitter. Is the contract still worth it? It is, absolutely,
- 33:01Speaker 4: but the numbers look a little bit differently. So do
- 33:03Speaker 4: I think they're gonna make a move. Yes, I think
- 33:05Speaker 4: they're gonna make a move. Do I think that they
- 33:06Speaker 4: will deal anyone significant away, No, But they make They
- 33:10Speaker 4: love to tweak. They're always tweaking. And the reason they
- 33:12Speaker 4: can tweak is because even some of their veteran guys
- 33:15Speaker 4: of Taoscar Hernandez, we heard team other teams would love
- 33:18Speaker 4: to have a Taioscar Hernandez Phillies.
- 33:20Speaker 1: They probably take Tioscar Hernandez right now.
- 33:22Speaker 4: They'd have to eat a lot of his money, but
- 33:24Speaker 4: they would probably take him because he would be a
- 33:26Speaker 4: right handed hitting outfielder that has playoff experience. So I
- 33:29Speaker 4: think the Dodgers will make moves. I just don't know
- 33:31Speaker 4: that the Dodgers will make a move where we're like, Wow,
- 33:34Speaker 4: we're blown away by what they just did.
- 33:37Speaker 3: I'm not sure who said it. I might even ken
- 33:40Speaker 3: the Dodgers are just lurking around the backboard. So when
- 33:44Speaker 3: a team fumbles, and this is where a lot of
- 33:46Speaker 3: this is forgotten, fans just think Dodgers spend all the
- 33:50Speaker 3: money they get everybody. They're just lurking around the backboard,
- 33:54Speaker 3: and when there's a rebound, they don't just put it
- 33:57Speaker 3: back up into the hoop. They dunk on the league.
- 34:01Speaker 3: So yes, I would agree with AJ that they're not
- 34:04Speaker 3: going to make any like they don't feel like they
- 34:06Speaker 3: need to make moves. Maybe what Katie said, Hey, you
- 34:09Speaker 3: know what, replenish a farm system? Always looking to make moves.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Blah blah blah. Just be careful. They're always lurking because
- 34:19Speaker 3: they have a lot of value and they're never afraid
- 34:22Speaker 3: of making the big move when other teams in this
- 34:25Speaker 3: situation are afraid of making the big move.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Right, And she mentioned in the article names like Alex
- 34:31Speaker 2: Call and Eric Lower as potential trade pieces for the Dodgers.
- 34:36Speaker 2: So we need to figure out Otani's pitching status eventually. AJ.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Tyler Glass now has missed most of the year. Blake
- 34:43Speaker 2: Snell's almost back, He's missed most of the year. Yamamoto
- 34:46Speaker 2: is a dog in a gy and he's there for them.
- 34:49Speaker 2: But those are the has been better they're relying on.
- 34:52Speaker 2: I know, do you trust him in a playoff start? No?
- 34:57Speaker 1: But he's been better.
- 34:59Speaker 2: I agree, I mean he's been better. I trust.
- 35:06Speaker 3: I trust him giving you innings right now, say what
- 35:08Speaker 3: I've seen.
- 35:09Speaker 4: His last James ty On, don't say that. Because I
- 35:11Speaker 4: said about James and ty On yesterday. Cup fans are
- 35:14Speaker 4: after me with pitchforks.
- 35:16Speaker 1: Yeah, oh fine, I don't care Jameson.
- 35:20Speaker 4: And then, by the way, and I was gonna say
- 35:22Speaker 4: this about yesterdays show when I said Shoda has been good,
- 35:24Speaker 4: not great, They're like, oh, Tyan's given up twenty five,
- 35:26Speaker 4: homers Well show's given up twenty two and has a
- 35:29Speaker 4: three point ninety race. I'm like, okay, I mean he's
- 35:32Speaker 4: been good, he hasn't been great. Shoda hasn't been as
- 35:34Speaker 4: great as he was the first year.
- 35:35Speaker 1: I'm sorry. But Cubs fans, I love you.
- 35:38Speaker 4: I'll see you on Saturday when the Yankees are in
- 35:40Speaker 4: town so you can all wait.
- 35:43Speaker 3: I love that. I love that. You already just just
- 35:47Speaker 3: sprinkled it in you. You are always around the corner
- 35:50Speaker 3: for Cubs fans, always swimming in their heads.
- 35:54Speaker 2: I mean, I'm always around the corner for comments in general.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I had a Dodgers fan just recently say oh, this
- 36:01Speaker 2: has become an anti Dodgers show. I'm like, oh my gosh,
- 36:04Speaker 2: here we go we hate them all.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Yeah, that was probably Cner account.
- 36:11Speaker 2: It could have been. Let me get back on track. Yes,
- 36:14Speaker 2: we didn't mention this, but the Rokie Suzaki longer glove
- 36:18Speaker 2: to prevent pitch tipping. I buy that story. They said
- 36:21Speaker 2: they felt like he was tipping eyewashed from prats. I
- 36:24Speaker 2: mean he's also he's also throwing what's called strikes, and
- 36:27Speaker 2: that helps you to not record what's called walks. That's
- 36:31Speaker 2: a big thing too, is if you have good stuff
- 36:34Speaker 2: landed in the zone and then they go boom, strike one.
- 36:38Speaker 2: And then also that stuff can go outside of the
- 36:41Speaker 2: zone and they chase it. It's a crazy, crazy concept
- 36:44Speaker 2: when I try to explain people how complicated my job
- 36:47Speaker 2: is to talk baseball all the time. Anyway, we'll see,
- 36:53Speaker 2: we'll see what October looks like for the Dodgers. And yes,
- 36:57Speaker 2: let's give the Dodgers territory promo before we talk about
- 37:00Speaker 2: the mess in San Francisco. Yes, Kratz, Clint, Katie Alana Dodgers' territory.
- 37:08Speaker 2: I saw the spot you guys did with Katie the
- 37:10Speaker 2: other day, and it was good fun and good information,
- 37:13Speaker 2: and that's what you're looking for in your Baseball content
- 37:15Speaker 2: part of the FT Network. Go get the show. Okay,
- 37:20Speaker 2: staying in the NL West. Not one, not two, but
- 37:22Speaker 2: three injuries for the Giants. This really sucks. Casey Schmidt
- 37:26Speaker 2: torn meniscus in his left knee. He's been their best player.
- 37:29Speaker 2: I think he was on pace for thirty plus homers.
- 37:31Speaker 2: He's been awesome, Just an awesome player who took a
- 37:34Speaker 2: little time to become his true self in the major leagues.
- 37:37Speaker 2: And teams were apparently calling about him left and right,
- 37:39Speaker 2: and the Giants weren't going to trade him anyway. But
- 37:41Speaker 2: he'll miss some time. That's one. Let's rack all of
- 37:44Speaker 2: them and then we'll get responses. Here more bad news
- 37:46Speaker 2: for the Giants. This is all in the past twenty
- 37:48Speaker 2: four hours. This is basically all last night. Trevor McDonald
- 37:51Speaker 2: ucl reconstruction surgery is going to go down for him
- 37:55Speaker 2: next week. He's shown some flashes this year. And then
- 37:57Speaker 2: number three update on Harrison Bader from Alex Pavlovich. He
- 38:03Speaker 2: went to see a specialist for his planter fasciitis. The
- 38:06Speaker 2: Giants announced that Bader had a scooter accident on Saturday
- 38:10Speaker 2: night early Sunday morning and he further injured that left foot.
- 38:13Speaker 2: He's going to get an MRI for the new injury.
- 38:16Speaker 2: So those reports all came out around the same time there,
- 38:20Speaker 2: and it's it's just a freaking disaster in San Francisco
- 38:27Speaker 2: this year. Now the injuries are starting to pile up
- 38:29Speaker 2: on top of that. It wasn't even one of those
- 38:31Speaker 2: situations where you know how sometimes aj they go, oh, well,
- 38:34Speaker 2: you know, this isn't our year, everyone's hurt. It wasn't
- 38:36Speaker 2: really that for San Francisco. Now the injuries are starting
- 38:39Speaker 2: to pile up on top of that, and they're not
- 38:41Speaker 2: in it, so they're selling and they will sell.
- 38:43Speaker 1: It's been just a disaster of a season for the Giants.
- 38:47Speaker 1: I'm sorry. There's no other way to put it.
- 38:50Speaker 4: From everything they could have gone wrong has gone wrong
- 38:53Speaker 4: for him. But by the way, I just want to
- 38:54Speaker 4: say this about the fasciitis. I've had it.
- 38:57Speaker 1: It sucks, man.
- 38:58Speaker 4: I don't know how to get rid of it. I
- 39:00Speaker 4: don't know how they say you get shots. I won't
- 39:02Speaker 4: get a shot on my foot because it just doesn't
- 39:03Speaker 4: seem like it's going to do anything. But I have it.
- 39:05Speaker 4: I've had it for a while. That junk hurts, man.
- 39:08Speaker 4: It hurts every day, and then a scooter accident on
- 39:11Speaker 4: top of it with Harrison Vader. I mean, I remember
- 39:13Speaker 4: guys used to ride their scooters San Francisco Park all
- 39:16Speaker 4: the time, even back when I was playing there.
- 39:18Speaker 1: I refuse to do it.
- 39:19Speaker 4: But it's the first time I remember a guy getting
- 39:21Speaker 4: in a scooter accent hurting their fasci I just wear.
- 39:24Speaker 1: So it's just bad. Look, Casey Schmidt. Bad look.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Everything everything that could go wrong, including scooters, has gone wrong.
- 39:32Speaker 3: It's interesting to me that they wouldn't have traded Casey Schmidt.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Interesting to me that you have a guy who's got
- 39:37Speaker 3: like he's it in two seventy with like a three
- 39:40Speaker 3: hundred on base percentage. Casey Schmid's having a great year.
- 39:45Speaker 3: But to me, if I'm the Giants, I am selling
- 39:47Speaker 3: high in a market that wanted right handed bats. It's
- 39:50Speaker 3: a mute point. It's a mute point, and it's tough
- 39:53Speaker 3: because now it really just kind of leaves the Giants
- 39:56Speaker 3: with you know, they're just expiring. Were really getting for
- 40:01Speaker 3: Robbie Ray? What are you really getting for the most
- 40:04Speaker 3: traded player in the last five years? And Luisa Rais,
- 40:06Speaker 3: who no teams really wanted to pay for anyway. I
- 40:10Speaker 3: just think there's Yeah, it's tough because now you've got
- 40:15Speaker 3: to run it back next year, and is Casey Schmid
- 40:18Speaker 3: can to have the same type of year you hope?
- 40:19Speaker 3: So I think there's flashes, But again with the lack
- 40:22Speaker 3: of plate discipline, is there really a ton of value
- 40:27Speaker 3: for him moving forwards.
- 40:30Speaker 2: I think sometimes you look at your ball club and
- 40:33Speaker 2: for the Giants, they dislike it so much that they're like, well,
- 40:36Speaker 2: this guy's been our best player. For a bad team
- 40:39Speaker 2: to trade away their best player under years of control,
- 40:42Speaker 2: and he can play a number of positions. That's probably
- 40:45Speaker 2: part of the thought process. And also, I mean he's
- 40:48Speaker 2: got twenty one home runs this year as a Giant player,
- 40:52Speaker 2: that's really difficult. I mean, the amount of power that
- 40:55Speaker 2: goes to die in that franchise when it comes from
- 40:58Speaker 2: else somewhere else. I think maybe they just felt like
- 41:01Speaker 2: they found the right fit for the organization, and you know,
- 41:04Speaker 2: sometimes it's like this is the right type of player
- 41:07Speaker 2: that we want within the org. Agent you can speak
- 41:10Speaker 2: to this. Look at the White Sox turnaround the types
- 41:12Speaker 2: of players that they had in the clubhouse two three
- 41:15Speaker 2: years ago versus the guys that are showing up now
- 41:17Speaker 2: that can't wait to get there. The guys, and I'm generalizing,
- 41:21Speaker 2: there were plenty that wanted to be there, but there
- 41:23Speaker 2: were definitely some guys that were just always out and
- 41:26Speaker 2: it felt like hit by pitch, I'm going down. While
- 41:30Speaker 2: now it's like they've got a guy who purposely basically
- 41:33Speaker 2: gets hit by pitches to get on. Basin loves it.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, it's a different thing.
- 41:39Speaker 4: But I mean the biggest thing for me is Raffi Devers,
- 41:41Speaker 4: Like Raffie Devers was supposed to be that great star.
- 41:44Speaker 4: He has a materialized right William Domas signs the big
- 41:47Speaker 4: contract over there.
- 41:48Speaker 1: He hasn't had a great year.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Logan Web's been fine, but Robbie Ray has been in
- 41:53Speaker 4: and out of pitching up and down as far as
- 41:56Speaker 4: his return right, It's just it's just how worked. I mean,
- 42:00Speaker 4: Tody Vitello, you can argue whatever with him, and hasn't worked.
- 42:04Speaker 1: I mean, they have the worst records.
- 42:07Speaker 4: It's just been a comedy of errors, which sucks because
- 42:09Speaker 4: I like Buster Posey and I want him to succeed
- 42:11Speaker 4: because I want more baseball people in front office roles.
- 42:14Speaker 1: But it just hasn't worked.
- 42:17Speaker 2: We haven't heard much about a Dominis, and it doesn't
- 42:20Speaker 2: sound like teams have crazy interest. But do you think
- 42:22Speaker 2: there's any world where the Giants eats some money and
- 42:24Speaker 2: then trade him away. No, he hasn't been terrible, he's
- 42:29Speaker 2: just been You don't think he's a serviceable middle infielder.
- 42:34Speaker 3: No, I do, But I think there's I think there's
- 42:37Speaker 3: enough value for the Giants to keep him. That's why
- 42:41Speaker 3: they signed him when other teams weren't willing to go
- 42:44Speaker 3: that big. And I think he costs too much for
- 42:48Speaker 3: the value that he's bringing. I mean, I think his
- 42:50Speaker 3: numbers I would have to look it up here, but
- 42:52Speaker 3: I think his numbers are pretty much on par with
- 42:56Speaker 3: where he had been throughout his career except for yeah,
- 42:59Speaker 3: I mean he's actually above one eight one eight ops plus,
- 43:04Speaker 3: but his best year was twenty twenty one when he
- 43:06Speaker 3: went over to the Brewers from the Race. So I
- 43:10Speaker 3: think I think he adds a culture to that lineup
- 43:14Speaker 3: that I think that's what they paid for. And I
- 43:17Speaker 3: think moving forward, he's going to be the shortstop unless
- 43:20Speaker 3: they have somebody coming up through the ranks. So I
- 43:22Speaker 3: don't think. I don't think the fit is there throughout
- 43:25Speaker 3: the league for him, somewhere.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Else is short. You're right about twenty twenty one for
- 43:30Speaker 2: a Domis. That was the standout year since then. If
- 43:33Speaker 2: you look, for example, at last year AJ, that was
- 43:36Speaker 2: right up there with a top season of a Damas
- 43:40Speaker 2: from twenty twenty two through twenty twenty five.
- 43:43Speaker 4: I just think that I think teams look at him
- 43:45Speaker 4: as a one dimensional guy because his defense isn't great
- 43:48Speaker 4: and they want defense. He doesn't steal a lot of bases.
- 43:51Speaker 4: They just look at him. I think is a power
- 43:52Speaker 4: guy and his defense isn't enough to make up for
- 43:55Speaker 4: the lack of other stuff and the amount of money
- 43:57Speaker 4: he's being paid. Teams are like, we're not doing that.
- 44:00Speaker 4: We're not going to take that on as an aging player.
- 44:03Speaker 4: I mean, he's not that old, but as an aging
- 44:05Speaker 4: player in today's game at a premium defensive position, he
- 44:08Speaker 4: doesn't play defense great.
- 44:10Speaker 1: It's just a lot for teams to take on. That's
- 44:11Speaker 1: why there's no interest in him.
- 44:12Speaker 4: And I think he's a really good player, but it's
- 44:15Speaker 4: just the way of the game in today's world.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Thirty years old, everyone's looking for right handed pop. You
- 44:22Speaker 2: hit thirty home runs with the Giants, last year. It's
- 44:25Speaker 2: like forty five in most other parks, right, if you're
- 44:27Speaker 2: playing half your games in San Francisco. I don't know.
- 44:29Speaker 2: I just think he's being shit on a little bit
- 44:31Speaker 2: too much in terms of the industry perspective. I could
- 44:35Speaker 2: be off there, but playing the eye test game, AJ,
- 44:40Speaker 2: you know.
- 44:40Speaker 1: No, I agree.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I'm just talking about me for.
- 44:42Speaker 1: A today's game.
- 44:44Speaker 4: In today's game, that's not the way it's looked at Scott.
- 44:46Speaker 4: I mean, I think he's a good player, I really do.
- 44:48Speaker 4: But I just think he's making too much and his
- 44:50Speaker 4: defense doesn't rank up there high enough to where teams
- 44:53Speaker 4: are like, Okay, we can live with his defense being
- 44:55Speaker 4: a little bit bad, but he still hits thirty homers.
- 44:57Speaker 4: That's the teams are like, and he's thirty and he's
- 45:00Speaker 4: making this much money. It's just it's just not the
- 45:02Speaker 4: way teams evaluate guys anymore.
- 45:06Speaker 2: Well, for San Francisco Giants, fans hope that you can
- 45:09Speaker 2: get a nice return for a number of deals. And yeah,
- 45:12Speaker 2: I hope that they figure something out for at least
- 45:14Speaker 2: one of the big money players, because it sounds like
- 45:16Speaker 2: they're anxious to move one of them. I know it's
- 45:18Speaker 2: going to be very difficult to pull off, but most
- 45:21Speaker 2: likely you see more of the Robbie Ray Luis rays.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Those trades will definitely go down a few minutes. Left
- 45:39Speaker 2: a few things to show you. Did you guys see
- 45:41Speaker 2: the Alec Thomas collision? Oh the mascot there. We posted
- 45:45Speaker 2: about it and it picked up millions of views, and
- 45:49Speaker 2: it was actually from the weekend, and then we found
- 45:51Speaker 2: it a couple of days later, like nobody had really
- 45:53Speaker 2: put much up about it, but it was. It was
- 45:57Speaker 2: a tough collision. I think he's okay, but AJ, that
- 45:59Speaker 2: was a that was a hit. I think we do
- 46:02Speaker 2: we have it.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I was wondering did you get hurt because you
- 46:04Speaker 4: didn't hear anything about it. You know what's funny is
- 46:06Speaker 4: though that game was actually I remember I was watching
- 46:07Speaker 4: the Strippers and someone else play and then after that
- 46:10Speaker 4: they went to Okay see in the river Cats, And
- 46:12Speaker 4: I was like, oh, wow, I wonder if I know anybody,
- 46:14Speaker 4: and I forgot Alec Thomas. Maybe if I had been
- 46:16Speaker 4: watching the game, he would have got a little more
- 46:18Speaker 4: attention from you, but wow, he got he got rocked.
- 46:22Speaker 3: No way saw it happening. You forget you forget that
- 46:26Speaker 3: they do those races. You forget that they do all
- 46:28Speaker 3: that stuff. And that guy was cooking. The mascot was
- 46:32Speaker 3: cooking on that scooter. Another scooter accident.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Right, I should mention, Yeah, this isn't running into someone.
- 46:39Speaker 2: This is scootering into someone. It's it's dangerous. So it's
- 46:42Speaker 2: on our FT Twitter from last night if you want
- 46:44Speaker 2: to check it out. That's one Two other things that
- 46:47Speaker 2: we posted about last night. One was Dean Kramer calling
- 46:50Speaker 2: out Pete Alonzo. Did you guys see that?
- 46:55Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 46:55Speaker 1: That was like I don't think Yeah, wasn't a big deal.
- 47:00Speaker 1: He was just asking.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Him because there's there's definitely some there's definitely places. Now.
- 47:05Speaker 3: I didn't go back and watch the replay, but I
- 47:07Speaker 3: just saw his reaction like can you see can you
- 47:10Speaker 3: can you see in Pete's like what?
- 47:13Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 47:13Speaker 3: Because you think about where the levels come together of
- 47:16Speaker 3: the stadiums, there's a gap and if it's early in
- 47:19Speaker 3: the game, midway through, sun can be poking through. We
- 47:23Speaker 3: just saw it the other day. The I think it
- 47:25Speaker 3: what didn't netto do a bounce pass from third base
- 47:29Speaker 3: in the shift to finished or to start the double
- 47:33Speaker 3: play that there's the sun goes right through a gap
- 47:37Speaker 3: and sometimes the right side of the infield, second base
- 47:40Speaker 3: and first base have a tough time seeing the ball.
- 47:43Speaker 2: There you go. Okay, So he was literally asking him
- 47:47Speaker 2: can you see? Not trying to be offensive.
- 47:52Speaker 3: No, I think it was.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I know he wasn't trying to be offensive at all.
- 47:55Speaker 4: If you ever been to Colorado, Colorado, the first baseman
- 47:57Speaker 4: can't see and pictures of don't throw balls, cay can
- 48:00Speaker 4: you see?
- 48:01Speaker 2: M m. What about the umpire seeing Xander Bogart asked
- 48:06Speaker 2: to challenge a pitch and him acting like he's so
- 48:09Speaker 2: busy with the padres dugout that he can't acknowledge the challenge,
- 48:13Speaker 2: the abs challenge.
- 48:16Speaker 1: I'm just sure this is all this.
- 48:18Speaker 3: This is something that I think is that I think
- 48:21Speaker 3: I would have never thought of this, but it's shown
- 48:24Speaker 3: up several times. Why can't the other guys? Why can't
- 48:28Speaker 3: Why can't first or third base? It's probably easier for
- 48:31Speaker 3: the first base umpire to see it. He's not involved
- 48:35Speaker 3: in somebody yelling at the umpire and a dugout. Yeah,
- 48:38Speaker 3: the umpire looked away, He looked away. I think there
- 48:40Speaker 3: was another situation where umpire, why can't they pick it up?
- 48:43Speaker 3: And be like, I did see that. It's almost like
- 48:45Speaker 3: a check swing, like he clearly Xander clearly checked. I
- 48:49Speaker 3: think Xander would have been wrong in this situation. So
- 48:51Speaker 3: it's good he didn't use it. But it's the principle
- 48:54Speaker 3: of it. Why can't the first and third base umpires
- 48:57Speaker 3: also be watching and be like, hey, no, actually you
- 49:00Speaker 3: did get it.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Absolutely it could happen, it just didn't. It seemed personal.
- 49:09Speaker 2: We were tempted form show, but we're too busy with
- 49:11Speaker 2: trade talk. AJ's request, of course, too busy with trade talk.
- 49:15Speaker 2: After next week we talked ball, we talk games, but
- 49:20Speaker 2: keep the trade questions coming. It's been awesome. Plenty of
- 49:24Speaker 2: other insider guests joining us for some for some Christmas,
- 49:30Speaker 2: for me, whatever holiday you want to say. For for
- 49:34Speaker 2: a J. Kratzet on the way out.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Sneaky suspicion that they're going to do something that we're
- 49:42Speaker 3: going to be like, I didn't see that coming from
- 49:44Speaker 3: the from the A's of Sacramento.
- 49:50Speaker 2: I'd like to see it. Yeah, I mean, their their
- 49:52Speaker 2: core is kind of disappointed this year too. I'd like
- 49:55Speaker 2: to see they're.
- 49:56Speaker 3: Going to do.
- 49:57Speaker 1: We're going to get rid of some guys.
- 49:58Speaker 2: That are going to get Of course, they need to
- 50:01Speaker 2: get some long term pitching out.
- 50:02Speaker 4: John Fisher is going to say, man, my payroll is
- 50:04Speaker 4: way too high. I got to pair this thnk out quickly.
- 50:08Speaker 3: Today's the time promised.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Wait, it's not just John anymore, it's Mark Cuban. Maybe
- 50:12Speaker 2: we'll get to that story next week. He is now
- 50:15Speaker 2: partial owner of the A's. Anyway, we'll see y'all on Thursday.
