Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: The main theme of this podcast is writing every day.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: After all, it's in the very title of the show, so of course this is about writing every day.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: But sometimes people ask me, do you actually mean that we should write every day?
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: And yes, I mean write something every day.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: But what am I suggesting that you write?
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Well, here's my definition of writing every day.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: It just means writing something that advances your goals as a writer.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And that can include material for your blog, for your book, a podcast, or some other type of content that helps you reach your goals.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: However, writing every day can also include just writing in your journal.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It's doing whatever kind of writing helps advance the kind of goals that are important to you related to writing.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Now, whether you include weekends or whether you actually do it every day is completely up to you, of course, but I liken this to somebody who's trying to live a healthy lifestyle.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: If you want to be healthy, you can't eat good Monday through Friday, but then eat total garbage all weekend.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: It just really doesn't work that way.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: So the real question is, how healthy do you want to be as a writer?
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: If you want to be in tip top shape, I encourage you to write every day, preferably the first thing in the morning when your mind is fresh, before you've started checking email and getting into the details of the day.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: But the main thing is not when you write, but rather it's if you write.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Long or short, morning or evening, computer or notebook, it doesn't really matter.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Just write something, anything.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Your actions are far more important than the best intentions followed with no action.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Action beats intention every single time.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: So I must ask you, have you written today?
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: So every day for the next year, you can have a shot of inspiration delivered straight to your inbox.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at dailywriterlife.com slash writing prompts.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: Thanks, and I'll see you tomorrow.
