Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
• 0:06
Speaker 1: where we left off with the New Mexico prelim Report
• 0:10
Speaker 1: released by the Epstein Truth Commission in New Mexico. Although
• 0:14
Speaker 1: the record is voluminous, there are still significant gaps in
• 0:18
Speaker 1: the evidence. For instance, Epstein's email communication cover only the
• 0:22
Speaker 1: period between two thousand and nine and twenty nineteen. Moreover,
• 0:26
Speaker 1: past investigative efforts focused on limited targets in limited locations,
• 0:31
Speaker 1: whereas other locations where Epstein was alleged to have engaged
• 0:35
Speaker 1: in illegal activity, including New Mexico, were largely ignored. The
• 0:39
Speaker 1: Commission has not received full cooperation in obtaining evidence from
• 0:43
Speaker 1: federal and state entities that previously conducted investigations into Epstein's
• 0:48
Speaker 1: activities in New Mexico. The US Attorney's Office for the
• 0:51
Speaker 1: District of New Mexico has only partially responded to the
• 0:55
Speaker 1: commission subpoena for records, meaning that they have only returned
• 0:58
Speaker 1: sparse records of informationation that do not fully respond to
• 1:01
Speaker 1: the subpoena's request. Other DOJ components, including SDNY and the
• 1:06
Speaker 1: U S Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida,
• 1:10
Speaker 1: the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, and the District
• 1:13
Speaker 1: of South Carolina have refused to comply with the commissions
• 1:16
Speaker 1: subpoena or entirely ignored them. Documents released under the EFTA
• 1:21
Speaker 1: constitute an important source of evidence. However, there are numerous
• 1:25
Speaker 1: facts documented in documents released under EFTA that cannot be
• 1:29
Speaker 1: verified or adequately assessed for credibility. For instance, the FBI
• 1:35
Speaker 1: received a tip on November twenty fifth, twenty nineteen, that
• 1:38
Speaker 1: stated two dead bodies were buried at the ranch. The
• 1:42
Speaker 1: information through testimony of former Attorney General Hector Baldaris, revealed
• 1:46
Speaker 1: that tip was never provided to his office at the
• 1:49
Speaker 1: time it was given to the FBI. To date, the
• 1:52
Speaker 1: validity of the claim is unknown, nor is its source known.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: The statute does not grant DOJ unlimited discretion to withhold
• 2:01
Speaker 1: or redact material. It permits withholding only for five specific reasons,
• 2:06
Speaker 1: Protecting victims personally identifiable information, protecting against disclosure of child
• 2:11
Speaker 1: sexual abuse material, protecting active investigations narrowly and temporarily, protecting
• 2:17
Speaker 1: graphic images of death or abuse, and protecting properly classified
• 2:21
Speaker 1: national security information. Any redaction made under these grounds must
• 2:26
Speaker 1: come with a written justification published in the Federal Register,
• 2:30
Speaker 1: the government's official daily journal for regulations, notices, and legal announcements,
• 2:35
Speaker 1: and are reported to Congress. The law also contains a
• 2:39
Speaker 1: crucial restriction, no record may be withheld on the basis
• 2:42
Speaker 1: of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity, including to any
• 2:47
Speaker 1: governmental official, public figure, or a foreign dignitary. Congress wrote
• 2:53
Speaker 1: that sentence transparently to prevent exactly the kind of selective
• 2:57
Speaker 1: redaction critics have accused DOJ being engaging in protecting the
• 3:01
Speaker 1: reputations a well connected people who appear in Epstein's orbit.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: The Commission takes the position that all records that the
• 3:08
Speaker 1: DOJ are withholding subject to EFTA should be released. Truth
• 3:13
Speaker 1: Commission Investigative theory and methodology. The commission's investigative strategy was
• 3:19
Speaker 1: to build its investigation from documents released under the EFTA
• 3:24
Speaker 1: as well as from information that exists within existing archives
• 3:27
Speaker 1: of various institutions, in order to prepare for interviewing or
• 3:32
Speaker 1: hitting with the subpoena individuals based on what information was
• 3:36
Speaker 1: uncovered or provided. This included subpoenas to institutions that would
• 3:42
Speaker 1: have knowledge which could lead the Truth Commission to build
• 3:44
Speaker 1: a body of knowledge surrounding Epstein and his co conspirator's actions.
• 3:48
Speaker 1: Rooted and objective information provided through subpoenas later, the individuals
• 3:53
Speaker 1: connected to the information are likely to be subpoenaed or
• 3:57
Speaker 1: requested later for direct conversations, interviews, or depositions. Thus far,

Speaker 1: the Commission has issued twenty subpoenas. The targets of all
